
When I was in middle school, a friend introduced me to anime. The first anime I watched was probably between Highschool DxD or Soul Eater, aside from the Naruto episodes I would stumble upon on Cartoon Network. 

I loved watching anime. The animation, music, voices, and the world that was built opened my mind to crazy fantasies and dreams. I never thought I'd get into manga because it didn't seem as interesting.

One day, I heard that the Bleach manga was ending and by then, I'd watched literally hundreds of anime. Bleach isn't in my top 5 but it was still an anime I enjoyed a lot, and there was still more to the story I didn't know about in the manga. So I read it...

That's when I downloaded an app to read manga. Some time in either my last few years in high school or early post high school, and boy did I have a long list.

I read so many different things like manga, manhua, and manhwa. First off, my favorite manga became Re:Monster and when I got to see stories made by Chinese and Koreans... I had so many other worlds to explore. 

Tales of Demons and Gods, Solo Leveling, Omniscient Reader and The Last Human... they enthralled me. Reading them opened my eyes, what I always wanted is to explore new worlds, and after reading tons of manga. My mind was slightly open to reading light novels, I just never thought I could keep myself entertained reading light novels.

Out of the blue, something made me down load an app for light novels. Wanting to give them a chance, I placed many on a list before deciding which to read first. My first read, was My Vampire System... it was pretty good but some places felt like they were dragging on. So once I got to chapter 50 or so. I moved on to see what else light novels had in store.

That's when I came across one of my favorites today. Fourth Prince's Debauchery, it was a drug, I couldn't stop reading it. 

That's when I really got hooked on reading Webnovels, the stories people make, the worlds that are built. I loved reading them; I'm still new to reading webnovels, so I haven't read much. Neither have I ever written a story outside of school projects... but one day, I want to write a story and build my own world for others to read and we can explore that world together.


I just wanna end this by saying, I don't really hate any series, I just love to sit back and enjoy the story of an mc as it plays out. Be it action, adventure, fantasy, slice of life, romance, ecchi, and so on. I watched it all and enjoyed most of it, there isn't many series I'd give a rating below a 6-7 on a scale of 1-10. That goes with the manga and webnovels I've read.

These are just my thoughts, so... I hope you don't read me...

Warning: Some not so happy latter half that comes out of left field because I'm saying my thoughts.

A great man once said: "When I cut my finger, is a tragedy... When you fall into a sewer and die, is a comedy." In this trail of thought, one might decide to be a sadist to their character and play it for laughs.

Not saying that angle won't work or anything. After all, Charlie Chaplin didn't get famous for no reason.

What I'm trying to say is that comedy is derived from the absurd. Things that don't normally happen is happening and no common sense is needed for the fictional characters involved since people being dumb is funny in its own right. I mean, go ask Disney for advice on writing overly dumb characters who couldn't possibly exist in real life at all.

This doesn't mean that a pure comedy needs to be all laughs though. It is becoming strangely more common to weave plot threads together in order to make even more absurd scenarios for the characters involved. I remember watching an Anime called 'Gamers!' about a group of teenagers gradually falling into the rabbit hole of misunderstandings since they wouldn't outright ask each other anything.

It was to the point that Otaku online dubbed it with the meme-like name of 'Misunderstandings: The Anime' in the face of how complicated the story was becoming because of what was happening on screen.

Just me writing the word 'absurd' twice should be enough for those reading this to understand that making it 'out there' is what's comical. Even 'Kaguya Sama- Love Is War' derived its comedy from the absurd humour that is what WOULD happen when two geniuses won't give up in trying to win over the other in their battle of over-the-top scheming.

Reactions that are so over-the-top they are comical in itself are also common to comedies. Even in those fictions that try to balance their comedy with heavier moments that were built to be tear jerkers.

However, to actually be able to overcome the hurdle of making the sadder moments impact instead of making the reader laugh, what is most needed is the inclusion of something 'mundane' in a character's life which can be subverted. There is a reason The Simpson's and other comedy tv shows go back to the status quo after a joke has ended, it is because seeing something mundane turn hilarious is subversive.

And what is comedy if not a subversion of what we are expecting? The reason everything used to laugh in high school when someone fell after another guy pulled his chair before he sat is because something even as mundane as 'sitting' didn't follow the tradition, turning into something they didn't expect.

A long comedy story needs this sense of returning to the status quo even if it has changed a little after the previous punchline. You can't always throw in punchlines without proper build up to it.

There needs to be at least some time for the characters to take in an exciting incident before the next one comes, and that is especially true when it comes to punchlines. It's just how comedy works.

Now you may be thinking of writing a character who has some funny joke that consistently happens in the story. Maybe your character keeps on falling asleep in climactic moments or maybe your comic relief has a catchy catchphrase that he always NEEDS to say.

In the case of the latter: Don't... Just don't...

As for the former, new scenarios for the same joke can lead into an even bigger joke. Bonus points if whatever the character's main joke is actually coincides with some sort of characterisation.

You can have a guy who gets angry all the time have to ACTUALLY go to anger management courses or maybe the guy who falls asleep just doesn't get any most the time due to insomnia. I know something so 'real' shouldn't be funny, but remember my earlier advice, something 'mundane' can ground the story.

To have a higher purpose than just the comedy happening itself, this sense of realism is required and can't be forgotten if you want to make stories that can have a higher impact on the audience.

Generally, you can go berserk with this kind of story since any joke is acceptable as long as they don't are not moral ambiguous and don't go at the expense of a certain group of your audience. I mean, 9/11 jokes may seem funny but we've already got to the point that the terrorism itself is not to be joked about.

On a side note: Why is it that Kyoto Animation burning down is a tragedy but people falling off buildings in 9/11 is funny? I remember a guy even adding cartoon sound to a video of people falling...

Sorry, back to the topic at hand. Your sense of humour is your own, but be sure to be sensitive to the people around you and not be a sadistic bully who takes pleasure in the suffering of others.

This is a story I worked on ages ago that has been refined and edited by adding foreshadowing to events while also simplifying the power system better than before. This story can be considered a prequel to An Adventure Beyond Greatness as it takes place years prior to the events of that story.

Short Synopsis:
After retiring from the battlefield, my life became empty and lifeless. The regrets of my past haunt me in my sleep. Then a change occurred, a King from another world summoned me to fight for his kingdom, but I died even before I could give him my answer. Now, after a fake God allowed me to reincarnate (albeit imperfectly) with my memories intact, into a world filled with magic and swords.

Long Synopsis:
This is about a flawed protagonist who only knew to rely on others and not socialise who gets a second chance to change himself in order to live the life he aimed for in his past life. The narrator isn’t exactly trustworthy since it is purely in his bias perspective while other perspectives given by others fill in the blanks that he either leaves out or twists to suit the situation.

The story itself can be considered a parody of Isekai’s classic tropes which are given a sense of reality as time goes by. As there exists no ‘Demon Lord’, there is also no black and white, only characters opinions and counter-opinions throughout the story.

With Mr. Tao's explanation, Meng Lang finally understood what had happened.
There were indeed some problems.
Thanks to Blazing Teens and Balala the Fairies, viewership ratings of Jiangchuan Children's Channel had been rising steadily.
The directors of the channel were more than happy to see this. Higher viewership ratings meant more advertisement revenue. It was a good thing by all standards.
But the problem was that the channel didn't make good use of the high viewership ratings. With time, the audience started complaining about Jiangchuan Children's Channel, saying that the channel did nothing but rerun Blazing Teens and Balala the Fairies, and it was getting boring.
Without good content, the viewership ratings soon fell back to what they were before.
The directors soon made up their minds, deciding that the children's channel would make a serious investment in high-quality content, introducing a series of children's programs and purchasing the exclusive broadcasting rights of several cartoons.
It was supposed to be a good thing…
The management was vigorous and resolute in action, so it should have been just a matter of time before they saw an increase in the viewership ratings again. Unfortunately, Ping Pong Teens, one of the high-quality cartoons they purchased, hit a dead end when the production company went bankrupt.
With Ping Pong Teens coming to a premature end, Jiangchuan Children's Channel was put in a difficult spot.
The channel started promoting Ping Pong Teens right after they closed the deal. The promotion was still ongoing, but the production company had gone bankrupt. Mr. Tao's hair almost turned white overnight.
"That bastard Huang. He cleaned out the production company's account and took off with his sister-in-law…
"What an asshole! We've made the time slot available for the show, then something like this happened. My superiors have been giving me hell. My only choice is to find something to fill the gap."
Fill the gap?
"You've come to the wrong person!"
Meng Lang smiled bitterly. "Mr. Tao, as much as I feel sorry for you, I don't have anything for you!"
Blazing Teens 2 had just set up its crew…

Pengda had indeed started quite a few projects after it made some money, but the seeds had only just been sowed and the harvest was still ages away.

Other things would take even longer. Two to three years were normal time frames for movie and TV projects.
Mr. Tao waved his hands when he heard Meng Lang's explanation. "I know that. I didn't mean to use your new works to fill that gap."
Then, what the hell did you mean?! thought Meng Lang.
Fighting back his temper, Meng Lang asked, "So, Mr. Tao, you're here because…"
Mr. Tao rubbed his hands together anxiously and spoke in a shy voice. "Well… the schedule has been fixed and everyone knows that Jiangchuan Children's Channel is going to be the first to broadcast Ping Pong Teens next month, but the production company has gone bankrupt, so I was wondering if you're interested in finishing it off?"
Finishing it off?
Meng Lang was baffled, then asked, "Do you mean that you want Pengda to take over the unfinished project?"
"Yes! That's what I meant!"
Mr. Tao looked at Meng Lang expectantly and made calculations with his fingers. "Sweet Potato Anime, the production company of Ping Pong Teens, was established three years ago and has a lot of talented employees in this line of work. Director Meng, if you're interested in getting into animation, taking over this company would be a very sweet deal!"
So, the man was here to sell him a company!
Meng Lang shook his head and sighed. "Mr. Tao, thank you for your consideration, but we don't know Sweet Potato Anime well enough, and making a reckless purchase may bring us trouble.
The former owner had taken off with all the money and his sister-in-law…
The talented and experienced employees were the most valuable assets of an animation company like this. Now that the company had gone down, Pengda would have gone crazy to take over the company.
Why couldn't they just hire the employees?
Mr. Tao was correct about one thing — Meng Lang indeed had plans for setting up an animation department. He had even thought about making an independent animation company in the future.
But he was not a fool and wouldn't be swindled by Mr. Tao into taking over that company.
Sweet Potato Anime didn't sound promising at all, nor did Ping Pong Teens. No matter how well-made the show was or how high the viewership ratings were going to be, the winner was going to be some sportswear company.
Penda wouldn't be able to make any money from peripheral products.
So, why on earth would they take over such a lousy company?
They could just hire all the key employees.
Mr. Tao left in disappointment without getting the reply he wanted from Meng Lang.

"Instantly, all the big brothers and sisters waiting at the cashier were astonished. They began to list all the merits of my yo-yo and drew in their breaths. I've seen that yo-yo at Walmart. It's sold at 66 yuan without any discount!" 
"The manager of the supermarket apologized to me before slapping that condescending cashier. With an indifferent face, I took the free vinegar the manager gave me and went back home…"
Du Bishu was speechless.
The teacher would have totally freaked out when she read this!
"I envy you so much… I can't even make up such a story." Du Bishu sighed.
"Forget about the diary. Check this out…" Taking back the diary and tossing it to one side, Pan Da dragged Du Bishu to his computer.
On the screen was a personal homepage belonging to someone nicknamed "Bad Azz".

That post came with a picture of a flickering, colorful Fairy Flute held in a chubby hand.
Du Bishu was confused at first. He didn't know why Pan Da was showing him this until Pan Da scrolled down the page, revealing a familiar face in the photo album. He was immediately enlighted.

The Whisperer...

Every word she uttered was a curse, even the colloquies she began was considered appalling. The songs she sang and hummed were dreadful to those who heard them–– one would describe them as ear-splitting notes that screeched over one's soul. The prayers she sent up to the heavens–– they wouldn't even be noticed by the gods. Each and every syllable she spoke of, they were death wishes.

... At least, that was what others said.

How will a young orphan change her fate? The power that was blessed upon her very being, though as a curse by others. "How pitiful," others mutter around her. Whispers. They weren't even trying to hide it.

Those whispers were haunting Xierra over her sleep. Day and night, there wasn't a minute–– a single second where she didn't hear those poignant hushed voices. "It hurts–– it hurts so much..." Will she be able to overcome the challenges that life had brought to her? Or will she just give up?

"How sorrowful. Fate was never with you from the very beginning, Master."

"No, I don't believe in fate and such. There's no point in blaming it when reality's the one who's cruel."

"Oh? How interesting. Tell me, Master, what is it that you desire?"

The lamplight was on and in the front of her small desk mirror was a picture of Zu and her family.

    Around her room hung pictures of Zu and her sister when they were little. A knock hit the door. As Zu turned around, Kyoto poked her head through the small crack.

    "I thought you were going to sleep?" she asked. Zu nodded and turned back to her desk.

    In front of her was a math book and a paper with all her notes on it. Zu began writing again as Kyoto closed the door and jumped on the bed. "Bruh! You are wasting so much sleep writing on a piece of paper!" Kyoto says. Zu nodded and turned the math book page.

    "I want to keep my grades up!" Zu replied. They were speaking Chinese. "I have good grades and I stay on my phone!" Kyoto replied. Zu shook her head. "You get other people to do your work for you. What are you going to do for the finals?" Zu asked. "I don't have to do the finals this year. Already finished my testing. I graduate with you. I'm just in school for nothing!"

    Zu shook her head and wrote some more. "Thank you for helping me earlier!" Zu thanked.

    Kyoto lifted her head off the white pillow and nodded. "I don't know why you're scared of Jackson. He's legit a few inches shorter than you. And you're 5'0 in height," Kyoto replied.

    Zu turned to her. "I can't fight. I only do a little tennis, track, and study. My arms are noodles!" Zu smiled.

    "I know! I live with you, idiot!" Kyoto added. Zu stuck the finger at Kyoto then turned back to the paper. "Shut ya ugly ass up!" Kyoto came through. She laid her head back on the pillow and closed her eyes. "Sometimes I wish I had some powers," Zu mumbled.

    "Speaking of powers! I saw something on the internet about a new hero test subject that was coming out. They called it Quantum.

    Zu moved to the side as Kyoto jumped off the bed and opened Zu's laptop. Since Zu and Kyoto were so close, Zu let Kyoto have her password. "I swear if you show me a picture of heroes from the movies, Imma bite your titty off," Zu threatened. "You nasty." Kyoto smiled and looked up. "That came out not expected," she added.

    Kyoto chuckled and began typing faster than Zu could read. Kyoto pressed enter and a person came up. Not a hero, but a man in a tuxedo. Around him was a news article about him and what he was known for doing.

    Zu began reading and was intrigued by what she saw. His name is Shah Siko. "He's dope, isn't he? I found him yesterday. You know those superhuman people in the military? He's the one who gave them those powers. Special use only. Any other use, you'd be put in prison. That's so cool. Apparently, he's making Quantum. His biggest project yet. Says to have the powers of Buddha and God themselves. Well, what I heard." Kyoto scrolled down.

    Zu was just listening. Zu then pointed. At the bottom right corner were small letters. Smaller than the other fonts.
    
"Still looking for testers." It read.

    "You can't go and test for them! You have to have a license. Plus, it's in the capital of Taiwan. Dad won't take you!" Kyoto kept scrolling.

    Zu shook her head. "If I did go, would you snitch?" Zu asked. Kyoto looked to Zu with a fake confused face. "What's a snitch?" Kyoto asked. Kyoto hated being called a snitch. Kyoto never snitched. No matter the problem.

    "Great! You're coming with me!" Zu demanded. Kyoto went wide-eyed. "You're dumb. We're Asian!" Kyoto nearly yelled. Zu looked to Kyoto while closing the laptop. "So what if we're Asian?" Zu asked. Kyoto looked Zu dead in the eyes. "That's some white people shit! Only white people got those powers! Every single person that tested was white! Asian people watch anime, but we're not dumb enough to risk our lives to be like an anime character. Asian people just like to eat with sticks, be blind, get in car wrecks, and make Alaskan husky soup!" Kyoto raised her voice.

    Zu's jaw dropped. "You're racist!" Zu replied. Kyoto put her hands out to her side. "How?" she asked.

    Zu got into the bed leaving the desk lamp on as she always does when she's getting ready to go to sleep. "You're going to snitch, aren't you?" Zu asked. Kyoto made a straight face.

    "Stop calling me a snitch! I'm not a snitch! It's not me who's going to be an anime character when you're done. Imma just eat popcorn while you're in a little box being the character of your dreams!" Kyoto added. Zu put her hands behind her head looking to the ceiling.

    Kyoto got next to Zu since they had to share the same room. They're only sharing because they had company living with them for a month or two.

    Kyoto and Zu shared Zu's room. Tasha and Damion shared Kyoto's room, Juan slept on the couch, and Tinto and Chie slept in their own room.

    "And don't grind your teeth when you're sleeping today! Shit is annoying," Kyoto randomly said. Zu rolled her eyes. "You probably was masturbating! If you do, Imma make our cat piss in your breakfast!" Zu replied.

    "I actually get some d-" before Kyoto finished, Tasha came in. Kyoto sat up with a fake smile. "Hey!" Kyoto says. Tasha looked concerned. 
Kyoto and Zu looked at each other. "Nevermind that! You guys better go to sleep! You guys have school tomorrow!" Tasha told them.

    "Yes, ma'am! Thank you!" Zu replied. Kyoto bowed her head to Tasha as Juan came in bowing his head.

    Juan closed the door and turned to Zu. "You better not mess this up! He looks like he has a horse di-" before Kyoto finished, Juan opened the door again. "I'll wake you guys up!" he informed them.

    Zu got up turning off the desk lamp. "Night!" she says. Kyoto turned to the wall and almost instantly fell asleep.

Symbiotes were killed off by their cousins. The human race called these things Ophelias. A strong being that takes a human and makes them its host. Zu Kami was forced to be one while her sister suffered a far more dangerous power. Both forced to protect their small city from ones that hold a similar situation.
