The Black Masked Man stood with his arms crossed, staring at his three Magic Force enemies on the other side of the hall, staring at them while they huddled in a circle, whispering.
"So Qway really just left?" (John)
"It fits his personality. A bit of an asshole." (Oliver)
"He is an asshole, but still a part of the team. But I believe we can take this guy out on our own." (Yaku)
"Exactly. It's a three v one. We got this!" (John)
John readied himself to fight before Oliver pulled him and Yaku back to the huddle.
"Guys don't be rash. We should take this slow so we can study our opponent. Think like this, you two are strong enough to be Second-Class Sorcerers, and this Rogue Sorcerer doesn't know that. So if we let him lower his guard and underestimate us then we can take him out with a surprise attack." (Oliver)
Yaku thought about the plan for a second. He thought about all the inconsistencies, the best way to take out this opponent.
"Sure we could do that, it's a good plan, but I think I have a better idea." (Yaku)
Yaku explained his plan.

After a whole minute of explanations John, Yaku, and Oliver finished their short huddle and stepped up to fight.
The Black Masked Man leaned from the wall, his face tired from waiting.
"What were you three talking about?" (Black Mask)
He took off his black military gloves. He waited as they stood there silently, waiting for him to make the first move.
"Ugh...! This is taking too long. How about we make a deal. We do one v ones. I fight one of you three... And if I win you all have to kill yourselves, and if you win you get some information out of me, sounds good?" (Black Mask)
He stepped closer. His muscular rigid hands pointing at them, waiting for one of them to step forward.
Yaku stepped up.
"You! I'm fighting you!" (Black Mask)
"Sure." (Yaku)
Yaku walked out of the group. His Hermes Dagger shining golden in the bright white hallway, his brown briefcase swaying back and forth, he stopped five feet away from his new opponent.
"You ready?" (Black Mask)
"Are you?" (Yaku)
"Heh, nice... I like a fighter with an attitude." (Black Mask)
He held out his hands, waving them across the air. He moved like he was a martial artist, like he planned to fight with his fists instead of his magic.
Yaku jumped back, with every movement he felt that something was off with this man, that his magic was different than normal.
The Black Masked Man slowly marched forward, one foot in front of the other, one hand higher than the other, like a snake fighting a tiger cub, he moved up and down, fingers pointed out, pushing Yaku back and back, further down the hallway.
He launched forward, one punch, two punch. Yaku dodged both, jumping back across the air, holding his dagger close to his chest, ready to activate his magic... 
But he still felt like something was off, like if he activated his magic something bad would happen...
He reached into his black military vest and pulled out a small serrated blade. One step forward. One step back. He lunging at Yaku's liver. But Yaku was prepared, he dodged back, around, left and right. He kept his distance from the knife and his mysterious snake-like fists. 
"You're quite quick on your feet kid." (Black Mask)
"So are you." (Yaku)
They went back and forth down the hall. Yaku dodging all of his attacks.

Meanwhile, John and Oliver stood a good fifteen feet away, watching from a far enough distance that if any magic would go off they wouldn't be affected, but they still stayed close enough to jump in if Yaku needed help.
"They're really going at it. Yaku's dodging like crazy." (John)
"Yeah, he's quite the fighter." (Oliver)
"Yeah I've never seen a Fourth Class dodge like this." (John)
"No, he's incredible. I remember it was a year ago. We were in the same promotional exam for Second-Class's that year. I remember there was a special candidate that year that was promised by some higher-ups to become a First-Class Sorcerer. Yaku's group was up against them. They were chosen to lose. And at first, they did. Everyone but Yaku was defeated, and he was driven to a corner, about to be taken out. But then I blinked. It was almost instantaneously. Everyone on the stage. They just disappeared. And Yaku... He was the last one. The only one." (Oliver)
"What...?" (John)
"You saw it already, his second magic. It was the reason he was demoted and put on the Special Magic Squad. He's the second person in existence to wield two magics." (Oliver)
Yaku turned around. He ran down the hall opposite Oliver and John. He ran and ran until he reached a dead end.
"Now you have nowhere to run." (Black Mask)
"So do you." (Yaku)
He held out his Hermes Dagger. Holding it tight in his hands. He dropped it to the floor.
"Huh?" (Black Mask)
"I thought something was off with you. You weren't attacking us, and you weren't using your magic on me. I thought about it for a second and I realized. Your magic has to do with countering doesn't it?" (Yaku)
The Black Masked Man smirked.
"No, but your close." (Black Mask)
"Can you tell me? Or do you wanna fight blind against each other?" (Yaku)
"I can tell you. But then it would lose its magic." (Black Mask)
Yaku smirked.
"Fair enough." (Yaku)
He dropped his brown briefcase to the glossy floor. He then raised his hands to the air. His arms raised high. He screamed out to Oliver and John on the other side of the hallway.
"Now!" (Yaku)
"John it's your time to shine." (Oliver)
"I got this!" (John)
He gripped his brass knuckles tight. He raised his fist to the sky, slamming down with incredible force.
"Earth Shape!" (John)
The ground shook as layers of rock and metal crashed and formed into a wall blocking the Black Masked Man and Yaku together, in an enclosed space.
He turned around. Looking at the wall blocking his path out.
"You locked us in?" (Black Mask)
Yaku closed his eyes, focused his magic on the space between the ceiling, the walls, and the new wall made of rock and metal. He focused on a portal, a space between darkness and light, he channeled his magic, using up all the training he did in secret, to increase his portal magic, to expand its size.
"Spotless Forever!" (Yaku)
he opened up his palm. His fingers in all directions. He created a purple void from the four connecting walls, across the ceiling.
"What...!" (Black Mask)
He looked up to the infinite dark deep above him. Watching as one by one by one, swords, daggers, hammers, glaives, weapons of all sizes, of all shapes and ranges, watching as they appeared from the portal, raining down on him, with no escape, no
"This is my magic- I mean my magics." (Yaku)
He looked up at the weapons, their front ends pointing out, but not attacking. He waited as they stuck out, staring at him, looking with their sharp edges and deadly points.
"What are you going to do kid? Impale me? I can survive a few swords." (Black Mask)
"I don't think you understand. You probably think my magic is portals and voids, allowing me to transport weapons. But... I actually have another magic." (Yaku)
"What?!" (Black Mask)
"I'll just let you see for yourself." (Yaku)

He crossed his arms and fingers. He chanted hundreds of words, thousands of variations, multiple different hand signs, all activating one weapon after the other.
But the Black Masked Man just stood still. His arms to his sides. He turned toward Yaku. Staring with a grin.

"Your casting magic. What a perfect day." (Black Mask)

Yaku cast his final magic. He released his final sign. He then pointed everything at the man in black. All the magic at once.
They released.
Water magic, lighting magic, fire magic, earth magic, air magic, magic from all types of monsters, all monsters Yaku defeated, all monsters he turned to weapons. And it all struck the Black Masked Man. All hitting him dead on.
But nothing worked. After the dust settled the man in black stepped out unscathed, undamaged, instead, he was glowing, glowing with power.

"Did you figure it out yet kid?" (Black Mask)
"Oh..." (Jack)
"Yup. You won't be able to kill me with magic because magic doesn't affect me. It only makes me stronger. I'm the strongest Anti-Sorcerer in the world! No magic can damage me! No one can defeat me!" (Black Mask)
Yaku sighed with relief. He started to laugh, chuckle even.
The man in black looked puzzled and confused.
"What...? What is it?! What's so funny?!" (Black Mask)
"No, it's just... Your just a shittier Jack." (Yaku)
"What did you just call me?" (Black Mask)
He stepped forward. Glowing and insane with power. He readied himself to beat down Yaku but before he could take another step... Yaku activated all his magic monster weapons once again.
"Silly kid. You're just going to feed me more." (Black Mask)
Jack sat back. His arms tucked behind his back. He relaxed as the Black Masked Man grew in power.
"You know it's funny. I trained day in and day out. Learning how to activate my weapons automatically and how to expand my portals. I did it all because whenever I saw Jack train, I saw how much potential he had, I saw how much strength he had. And I realized, one day I'm going to have to fight him, and one day I'm going to have to beat him. So I trained my ass off. Day in... Day out... And I learned how to beat Jack... It's all so funny. How I get motivated... It's sad..." (Yaku)
"What do you..." (Black Mask)
He felt it all hit him at once. The amount of magic Yaku was releasing, how much he was absorbing.
"This is too much...!" (Black Mask)
He fell forward. the weight of the magic pushing him down, making him fatter with strength and power.
"Too much...! Magic...! Stop...! I..." (Black Mask)
He fell face first.
"I can't...! Absorb...! It...! All...!" (Black Mask)
He started to swell, his body expanding more and more as the magic flowed into him. The fire, the lightning, the water, the elements, and the energy. Each attack stronger than the last, each attack different than the other. He couldn't contain so many different types, so many different energies. He became overwhelmed... And before he could deactivate his own magic he... Exploded!

Monsters and Magic. A world overrun by unknown creatures, with death and misery around every corner. It seemed that humanity was on the brink of extinction...

But that would all change when a new member joined the fray.

That night, Zeeth and the three went back to Solas' hidden underground lair and handed her the massive Trickling Tree root that fell off. She looked at it with an astonished yet annoyed look, "what is this? How did you get it, what? I have so many questions. First, where did you find a trickling Tree? I didn't think there were any near us."
"Wait, you didn't expect us to find one?! Then why did you make us do this??" Gror yelled.
"Of course I didn't! I told you, I don't want students! This was supposed to be an impossible challenge! I expected you to never come back, or at least wait a year or two!"
"What the heck is wrong with you, old lady!?"
"Shut yer trap! Besides, how did you get such a large yet empty root?? This thing is as pure as a baby root, yet this large? This isn't going to work, you should just make firewood or something out of it. Did you have a tank full of top tier TON? That's Tonic of Nature if you didn't know."
"Yeah, we know."
"I don't expect the dwarf here to know that."
"Why would I not?? I am 35, you know. I know a lot more about this world than you do."
"Yeah? 35? How sad. I'm 36 and I don't look a day over 20, you already look like you're about to crumble to dust."
"No, I don't!"
"I thought Gror was the same age as us, who knew he was so much older."
"Exactly, Zeeth thought I was his age, I look super young."
"Guys, stop arguing. Is there any other way to make this potion? Or any other way to make you trust us?"
"Nope. but there is one way to use this root. A Trickling Tree root is only so sought after because of the immense amount of dark energy it holds so if we just constantly pump dark energy into it, it should have the same effect. Theoretically, I have proven this but I don't know what variables there will be if we really attempt it."
"Well, why don't you try it. Then you'll know"
"Ha, that's funny. If I were to do it alone it could take half a year, do you think either of us has the time?"
"So why don't you call up some of your friends? They could help you blast it."
"I don't have any friends that can use dark magic."
"You don't have friends that can use dark magic? In Melanis?" Gror asked, "Then what magic do your friends have?"
"You know." she said vaguely, "Random magic here and there."
"Rolas, please teach us some black magic. We have every other ingredient, we just need this one that thing, what do you want us to do?"
"You have everything else? Enough to brew three potions worth? Hmm. Very alluring. How about this, I will teach you the most basic black magic and we will all throw magic at it together. Then I can teach you how to brew it. And then take a sip to prove your loyalty and if you can do that properly then I will teach you."
"Deal."
Gror stopped him right after saying that and said, "Wait, when did I say I would agree? I don't want to drink a truth serum, what if she asks for my deepest secret?"
"Yeah, I don't know if she should try to get me to tell her my secrets either, it's not safe…" Zeeth was thinking about god and the vegetative state he would be in if he told her under the effects of a potion.
"Don't worry, I'm sure she just wants to test if we are undead creatures or not," page said, "a little bit won't make us spill all our guts, we will recover in seconds."
"Alright, if all you three twerps agree then we will start tomorrow. It's getting late, you can sleep in the dumpling shop, there should be a few piles of hay behind it."
"Why can't we sleep in here?" Gror asked, "it's nice and warm."
"Because it's where I live and I don't want you guys disturbing me, now get out, we will meet tomorrow morning."
The door opened and the floor jumped up to throw them out. The sky, full of stars, swept past their sight as they fell back on the ground.
"Geez, what an old bag," Gror muttered as he rubbed his head.
Her muffled voice yelled out, "I heard that you punk!"
They walked to the back of the dumpling shop where a single worker sat, taking care of the late-night customers. Sure enough, in a small room, there was a large pile of hay. They walked around, pushing piles of hay here and there until they made satisfactory beds. They each climbed in but Zeeth wasn't ready to sleep yet. He waited until they fell asleep and whispered "God's number".
He was instantly sucked away, this time god was a rock climber in the bright morning. Zeeth asked, "why is there another Goddess, Luik?"
God turned to look at him, his eyes shining a dazzling gold for a few seconds before dimming down. "Interesting. Oh, those are just beings that other creatures believed to be god simply due to their power. They aren't all that powerful, they aren't even immortal. They just seem to live a long time and imbue their consciousness into things so they can be re-awakened when they do die. Those weak imitations aren't gods or goddesses, only I'm the real one."
"Also, how would it be easiest for me to learn black magic."
"You? You would just need to get blasted with a bunch of weak spells and have your slimes absorb some to learn it."
"Does that work for every other type of magic as well?"
"Almost."
"Then what about the ones that don't follow this rule?"
"Well, I don't want to tell you but there is a lot that can't be learned in this fashion."
He kept asking about how to best learn magic and a bunch more about the different deities and god was as infuriatingly vague as ever with his answers. The most important thing he took away was that he should get blasted a bunch with magic. 
He came back and spent the rest of the night playing with Al and channeling mana through his body to increase the amount he had.
The next morning Rolas had woken them up at sunrise and began teaching them. "Remember, if you can't even learn the most basic black magic then I can't help you at all. You need to either have an affinity or develop one yourself, if you can't do that then I really can't do much and I Won't even be able to teach you."
"Okay. fair enough."
"Step one, take this rock," she handed them each a small black rock. "Try channeling mana through it and pour out black magic. This step should be fairly simple but it depends on how much you can make and how stable you can make it. You should eventually be able to create this yourself without the rock and create your own forms of magic."
"Rolas," Zeeth interrupted, "what is the weakest black magic skill you have?"
"Why? Trying to get ahead?"
"No, I just want to see what I might be looking forward to and I don't want to choose your strongest because it might be too powerful."
"Uhuhuhu, of course, it will be too powerful," he wasn't sure, but it seemed as if her face began glowing brighter along with her pride. Flattery seemed to be the way to her heart. "My weakest would be this," she put her two hands together and touched the fingertips to make a rhombus. Black wisps began seeping out of her palms and wrists to create a ball in the center. Her fingertips emanated a constant ring of circles. She then smacked her hands together and pushed forward, forcing her palms outward and at the Trickling Tree root, she placed on the floor. It hit the root and began to ricochet off, leaving a dark purple imprint, but the rings around it attached itself to the root and kept it swaying around until it was slowly soaked in and disappeared.
"The skill that I showed, where it trapped the ball in the designated area, is a very tough skill to learn, but the skill that I used to attack was one of the simplest." she explained, "Just a ball of black magic used to inflict wounds and possibly large blunt damage. I only used the stick magic so that it wouldn't go to waste or hit anything else."
"What about your other skills? What can they do?"
"I'm not showing you any more skills. I'm just going to teach you how to utilize the weakest skill and have you all blast the root. By the way, I still don't know where you got it from, I doubt the markets had anything like this. That root wouldn't survive a minute there, it would be pitch black by now."
"Oh no!" Gror exclaimed, "Terry!"

Over the next few days Jerod was slowly weened away from having baby sitters with him all the time. It started by him being inside the house helping his mother with the chores. This allowed her to get to other activities quicker which put him to playing outside for a majority of the day.
'Okay Lindsay, let's go over what we know so far. After looking at everyone's stats we can get a decent idea on what is normal for children. Pull up Jack and Julie's stats for me again.'

'So let's start with the differences. First, we don't see an EXP counter for them. However we do know that they have a level of 2. Next, they both have considerably less spirit and soul energy than I do. We still don't know what soul energy does but everyone in our family has 50 regardless of their age or level. So it seems this may be something that is constant for them maybe because they don't have a system? Or maybe it is from the Magic Affinity ability?
Comparing my stats to theirs, I already have the same strength as Julie and almost as much stamina. What we should do is keep an eye on her and see if she picks up anything that causes her to use as much of her strength as she can. Once we see that then we can wait until no one is looking and try the same thing. This will let us know if the stats are equivalent, I want to make sure that 3 strength for me is the same as everyone else. This is a must do test, if they aren't the same then it will affect me in future fights.'
'Good idea Jerod. I will maintain scans in her area to observe scenarios of her doing heavy lifting or strenuous work. I believe that the next course of action is to develop a physical fitness plan. Would you like me to put together a simple workout routine?'
'You know workout routines?'
'Well, I am not a professional of course, but I did spend a lot of time in the gym before I found out about my cancer. How else could I in good conscience take you into the mountains to hike if I couldn't carry you if you got hurt.'
'Uh huh... Um well something simple I can do with this body will be great.'
Over the next few weeks Jerod used his unsupervised time to do the simple workouts that included pushups, sit ups, jumping jacks, and running laps around the outside of the house amongst other things. 
'Okay Lindsay let's do a progress report. We have been doing workouts for a little over a month now.'

'Great work Jerod! You have been working very hard. We will be going to see Madam Zell in a few days so we can observe her magic usage for light particles. Maybe you should ask her some questions about magic. Being a curious almost 4 year old you should be able to get some information from her.'
A few days later Jerod and his family made their usual six month healer visit. Jerod was able to convince his mother that he was big enough to have his check up by himself without her in the room and decided to ask his questions about magic before the exam began.
"Madam Zell, could I ask you about healing magic? You are so good at it but I don't ever see anyone in my family do the white colored magic."
"White colored magic? What colors of magic have you seen before?"
Zell was shocked when she heard this terminology when describing magic. Very few people could see the color of magicles (magic particles) and those few people were extremely talented with magic.
"Well, I have seen red colors when my mother starts a fire for dinner, brown when my father works in the fields when he is softening the soil to till, blue when he comes in and cleans his boots, and green when my sister is sweeping the room. I have also seen white colors when you do the check ups on me and my mother."
'MY GOD! He can see all of the element colors? Normally geniuses can only see at most two elements. This child is a super prodigy of magic!'
"Jerod, focus on my fingertip. Tell me if you see anything."
As Madam Zell held up her finger there was a swirl of element particles that started to gather together. This was Jerod and Lindsay's first time to see the inferred black magic particles.
"I see a lot of black colors collecting at your fingers. What kind of magic is that? This is my first time to ever see it."
'He can see it! He really can! This is amazing, someone who can see all forms of magicles. I cannot allow anything to stand in the way of him attending a magic school.'
"Madam Zell? Are you okay?"
"Ah? Oh, yes yes. Black colors. This magic is dark magic. It is used in conjunction with light magic when healing people."
"Oh? How come I have never seen you use dark magic when doing my or my mother's check ups?"
"Great question! Light magic allows me to scan your body to see if there is anything wrong with it. It also allows me to heal things like cuts and bruises. Dark magic is typically used to get rid of infections or other things that we don't want. Not everyone can use dark magic but some common people are able to. When using it in the base form it can be used to clean things like grime from pots etc."
"Oh that makes a lot of sense. I don't think we have had any illnesses that you would have to remove so I haven't ever seen it. How do you use the white and black magics?"
Zell looked at Jerod, scrutinizing the look in his eyes. 'He is asking specifically about only light and dark magic, not about how to do magic in general. Has he already started calling to the element magicles?'
"Little Jerod... I would be happy to explain how to call the white and black magicles. Magicles is what makes up the white and black colors. But I will only show you on one condition..."
"Magicles? Okay, what do I need to do? I would really like to learn."
"Well, make that two conditions... The first condition is, you have to show me what magic you can do."
Jerod starred blankly at Madam Zell. 'Do you think she is able to tell we can use magic?'
'It may be possible. Let's do some small wind magic and see her reaction. If she isn't phased then we can show her some others if she insists.'
"Okay, I can show you what I can do."
Jerod gathered the wind magicles and directed them towards the sheets on the bed nearby to cause them to rustle.
"Little Jerod... I know you can do better than that. If you can't show me the full extent of your prowess I don't think I can teach you how to use the white and dark magicles."
'Ugh.. she didn't seem impressed at all. Should we really go all out?'
'I think you may have to Jerod. It is important we learn everything we can from her while she is here. We haven't made any progress with the white magic and even less progress with the dark magic since this is the first time seeing it.'

Oh yeah,my mom was right. Yes my magic is black magic just like my mother's. And i really don't know how to use it since school only teach other magic and not black and light magic. Having black or light magic is very rare so the teachers said that black and light magic should be teach by the professionals.

Well for me, mom is a professional!The only trick my mom teach me is magic a black shapes! and that's how i know how to make those black dots!

We are in our backyard now,My mom teach me how to use a defense magic. And she make a very big black shield! Higher than her!

The sky was full of clouds, threatening rain. The air was strangely still, cool and unmoving as the trees stood silent under the grey sky.
Shuffle.
Black Wind dragged the corpse of a wild sheep across the grassy plains. A low hum of energy slowly grew louder the closer Black Wind approached the tree under which Irade and Käwsär were sitting. He watched them carefully as he dragged the meat closer to the small, burning fire.
Inhale...exhale.
Inhale and...exhale.
Black Wind had been surprised at how good Käwsär was at sensing and controlling magic. He had been able to stabilize his magical circulation quite easily once he came to. Not to mention, it took him only a single day to learn to sense the Sea of Magic, and only a few seconds to find himself among it.
Hundreds of small pricks of light dances around Käwsär. He watched as magic circulated in and out of Käwsär's body like it was air, flowing naturally and evenly. The boy's progress was frightening; it was hard to believe that his magic was unlocked only just a week or so ago. He was already expressing magic in pseudo-physical shapes.
If he didn't know any better, he would have thought that Käwsär had always been able to use magic.
Black Wind held in a sigh as he got closer. He looked over at his other student, who...well...
Irade was interesting.
On the one hand, she was doing about as well as Black Wind expected a human to do. Sure, she had made a breakthrough about a week ago on how to express magic in the physical world, but progress had been slow. Currently, she had only been able to manifest maybe a handful of lights, as opposed to Käwsär's hundreds.
Plus, she had somehow damaged her core in a way that made it impossible for her to sense the Sea of Magic. And this wasn't even mentioning how that damage someho8w impeded her personal flow of magic. Basically, her magic didn't flow as smoothly as it should, as if it was clogged up by something.
On the other (non-existant) hand...Irade could do things that neither Black Wind nor Käwsär could do even with a hundred years of practice.
The way she moved, she flied...it was very inefficient, but required a level of control that was pretty much impossible. The power that radiated from her whenever she used that arm of hers...it sent shivers down Black Wind's spine every time she used it.
And if Black Wind was honest about the reason he was here...
Käwsär was the first to notice his presence. He opened his eyes and smiled as he watched Black Wind drag the corpse near the fire. Impressively (for someone who only just started to learn how to control magic) the pricks of magic didn't dissipate.
"Thank you, Black Wind," he said slowly getting up. A frown formed on his face as he slowly took out his knife.
Black Wind watched as Käwsär slowly skinned the goat. At the same time, he kept up his magic manifestation. Black Wind glanced at Irade, who had also noticed that someone was around. Slowly she opened her eyes.
One of the pricks of light disappeared.
Yeah. This Käwsär kid was a natural. Waaaay more talented than Irade.
Black Wind spent the next hour or so watching Irade and Käwsär skin and cut up the goat for meat. They threw him the legs, which he gnawed on for the bones while they worked. Käwsär managed to keep up his lights for the entire time, only ending once he was done cutting up the goat.
Irade on the other hand had problems from the start. She managed to somehow keep up the magic pinpricks that hadn't disappeared for a while, right up until she had to hoist up the goat carcass so that Käwsär could cut it up better. She used [Flight] to float up to a branch and hoist the goat carcass up, and Black Wind fully expected her to lose all her pinpricks then and there.
To his surprise, despite the pinpricks "wobbling" slightly, they managed to stay lit. He watched as Irade balanced the use of [Flight] with the manifestation of magic, right up until she landed on the branch and everything disappeared.
But only because she had no magic left to consume.
Well, that wasn't completely true. She still had enough magic to fuel her strength. But Black Wind noticed that Irade had very purposefully done that to make sure she could do her job.
That was the fascinating thing about this girl. Despite her lack of talent, her strange emotions, and frankly absurd sense of humor, she had something that most wolves spent a lifetime trying to hone.
She knew how to survive.
Even if she made choices that were objectively lowering her chance of survival, like the time she fought the bear-man, Black Wind observed that Irade had a knack for making cutthroat decisions that would keep her alive.
Maybe that's what was confusing about her. How she seemed so unafraid of death, and yet fought so desperately to keep it away.
In any case, once her magic was drained, Irade spent the rest of the time gathering firewood and making sure everything was ready. She started cooking the meat – a process that Black Wind knew humans had to do for some reason, but always found bizarre – so that it would be ready by the time Käwsär was done carving everything up.
Today, she had decided to just cook the meat on some makeshift skewers over the fire, garnished with some leaves and salt. She also added some of the berries they had found along the way as dessert. Not the best tasting food, but it was something.
A soft breeze blew by, rustling the leaves gently as the three sat under the tree, eating their food. Leaves floated past them as Irade blew on her skewer to cool it a little, the smell of roasted meat wafting through the air.
"We need to get some cumin once we reach Kashgar," Käwsär complained. "Kawap just isn't the same without it."
He then went on listing a bunch of ingredients he'd need to make the perfect kawap; onions, garlic, some chili flakes.
"Or maybe we can even try some tonur kawap," he said, mouth watering as he dug into the goat meat.
"Tonur kawap?" Irade asked.
Käwsär went on to explain the concept of cooking kawap in a tonur – a large, hollow mound that acted as an oven, basically. Usually used to cook bread. Or meat. Or a whole bunch of other things.
"Do we even have money?" she asked casually.
That seemed to pull Käwsär out of his dreams. He hesitated for a bit before thinking.
"We do have some meat," he said thoughtfully. "We can probably sell that to have enough for a meal or so. Maybe make a deal with the restaurant owner or something."
"Restaurant owner?" Irade asked, biting into her meat.
Ah!
The bit of meat fell to the ground, her tongue burning. She looked at the piece of meat a little regretfully, before waving her skewer around to cool it a little faster.
"Yeah, there's a restaurant owner in Kashgar that we trade with occasionally," Käwsär explained. "Aksu is good for most things, but we do go to Kashgar when we have bigger hauls." 
He frowned as he looked down at his skewer, thinking.
Suddenly, he looked up at Irade. She looked back, still blowing on her food.
He said nothing, simply staring at her. She raised an eyebrow at him, inviting him to keep talking.
Still nothing.
"What are you looking at me for?" she asked outright.
He opened his mouth to speak, then closed it. Irade was getting a little annoyed.
"What are we doing in Kashgar?" he asked finally.
Irade blinked in surprise. The annoyance she was starting to feel suddenly vanished, replaced with a small, gnawing feeling in the pit of her stomach.
"I'm going there to see some...family," she said, looking away from Käwsär.
"Oh."
The two of them said nothing as another breeze passed between them.
"Are they..." Käwsär cleared his throat.
"Are they...like you?"
"I don't know," Irade replied truthfully.
"Why are we meeting them?" he pressed on. "Is this a [Mission]?"
Irade looked at her HUD, at the list of [Missions] she [Failed].
Sure enough, [A Gaze Into The Past] was still there. It hadn't activated or renewed or anything.
"No," she replied. "It's not a [Mission]."
Käwsär waited for her to elaborate, but she didn't.
"Do you miss them?" he asked.
Irade was surprised by the question. And surprised by the surprise. What kind of questions was she expecting from Käwsär?
"No," she said, after thinking about it for a while. "I barely remember them."
She recalled fuzzy memories of a house, of a place that had once felt familiar. Memories from back then felt more like a dream than actual memories now, especially after these past couple of months.
"I want to see if they're still there," she said slowly. "I want to know...if they can tell me what's happening to me."
Irade was once again surprised by the words she was saying. Despite not even knowing what she was about to say, the words that came out felt like the truth to her.
"But I don't even know how to find them," she continued. "I mean...Kashgar is a big city, right?"
"Pretty big," said Käwsär casually. "With our speed, we should be able to make it pretty quickly."
Thanks to Käwsär awakening to magic, their travel was a lot faster now. Irade could use [Flight] while Käwsär rode on Black Wind without having too much motion sickness anymore. As a result, they had pretty much raced through the mountains, and had reached the foot of the final mountain before civilization once more.
"But the truth is, even if we get there I don't know where we lived," Irade sighed. "My memories...they're too fuzzy. And I don't even know if they're real..."
She didn't know if she really lived in that lavish, old-fashioned house. For all she knew, she could have just seen it and imagined it.
But could a child really have such a strong imagination?
As Irade mused about her past, Käwsär mulled over what she was telling him, watching her reactions. For some reason, he felt a little prick in his chest, right over his heart as he watched her expressions change.
There was a question he wanted to ask. Something that had been bothering him for a while now but...
"You're really not some kind of Immortal?" he asked instead.
Irade simply stared at him. Immortal? Her?
Suddenly, she imagined herself in a long, flowy dress, her face painted as she laughed, skipping among the clouds. The image was so ridiculous, she couldn't help but burst into laughter.
Käwsär grinned. He knew that would make her laugh.
Black Wind looked between then, interested in the sudden, strange...tension? He'd seen this kind of thing between wolves before, but...
Well. It was probably best not to interfere.
"An Immortal?" Irade giggled, unaware of Black Wind's thoughts. "Why would you think that?"
Käwsär shrugged.
"Well, when we first met it was pretty...intense," he said. "And then when you said your name was Irade..."
"Wait, what's so weird about my name?" she asked.
Käwsär looked at her blankly.
"Your name is Irade," he said. "You know, like-"
He said another word in Uyghur that Irade didn't understand. She asked him to explain again, but all he said was yet another word she didn't know in Uyghur.
"It's like...the future," he ended up saying. "But like...the one that was wri-"
"GRRRRRRRRRRR!"
Black Wind shot up from his sitting position, hackles raised. Irade immediately looked towards where he was looking, brandishing the skewer as a weapon. Käwsär reacted a mere second later, standing up and pulling out his knife.
The trio stood alert, staring at the bush which slowly rustled. Irade narrowed her eyes, ready for a fight.
A small, pure-white rabbit jumped out of the bush.
Irade narrowed her eyes. She didn't need Black Wind of Käwsär to tell her to keep her guard up; she'd played enough video games not to underestimate the scouting abilities of her party members.
That said, Black Wind did seem to calm down a lot once the rabbit appeared. She briefly glanced at Käwsär, who was frowning.
"I've never seen a rabbit like that before," he muttered.
Irade glanced over at the rabbit once more. She made a decision, and threw the skewer at it with all her strength.
THUNK!
The skewer, with some goat-meat still attacked, pierced through the rabbit's skull and nailed the animal to the floor. Irade blinked in surprise. It seemed to just be a regular rabbit.
Käwsär looked at her with a puzzled expression.
"I was just being cautious," she explained. "Since both you and Black Wi-"
Ding!

Irade blinked as her vision was suddenly filled with messages. Slowly, she read through them. The more she read, the more confused she became.
"Irade?" asked Käwsär.
She looked over to him, expression strange.
"I've got a new [Mission]," she said. "But..."
She hesitated. This [Mission]...
"What's wrong?" Käwsär asked. "I can't help if you don't tell."
Irade bit her lip.
"I think I've figured out how to find my family," she answered.

The white light flashed suddenly. Merlin and the black cat Didimoss made their way out of the pitch-black passage. However, when they arrived at the other end of the passage, they discovered that their surroundings were bathed in darkness as well. There was no light at all.
In fact, it could not even be counted as darkness, for there was no Darkness Element here. There were no other Elements present at all. There was no ground nor sky, only endless emptiness all around….
Merlin looked around him. It was a vast sweep of nothingness. He had never been to a place like this before. All he could do was to float around silently.
"What is this place?"
Merlin finally looked towards the black cat Didimoss. He did not think that the black cat Didimoss would follow him to this mysterious place. As a spirit of the Runic Magic Circle, the black cat Didimoss would normally have no way of existing beyond the Runic Magic Circle.
"This is the Void Zone, also known as the Dimensions Corridor! We've already left the Glorious Land. There was a wormhole in the Dark Magic Region which the Great Wizard Fidel had constructed. It relied purely on the big runic circle to burn an entire heap of elemental crystals stones on the peak of the mountain. The flames will all be harnessed into an instance where it explodes into limitless and unfathomable energy. With that, one can open the wormhole and leave the Glorious Land. Only a Master would have the zeal to create such a wormhole!"
A wistful light shone in his eyes as the black cat Didimoss mentioned the Great Wizard Fidel. It looked like the image of Great Wizard Fidel, who had created the black cat Didimoss, had been deeply imprinted into the consciousness of the black cat.
Merlin paid no mind to the ruminations of the black cat Didimoss. His mind only echoed what Didimoss had said–they had left the Glorious Land. The entire continent where the Kingdom of Blackmoon was located was called the Glorious Land by the Spell Casters of the past. It was because all Spell Casters had originated from this continent, and it was from that continent that they had accessed myriads of dimensions.
They had actually already left the Glorious Land, the Kingdom of Blackmoon, the Dark Magic Region, the Wilson clan, and so on. All these places and people that were familiar to Merlin had vanished.
A sense of urgency crept into Merlin's voice as he asked in a low voice, "Didimoss, how do we go back?"
"Go back?"
The black cat Didimoss raised his paw lightly. His movements were graceful as he replied, "We can't go back now. This is a one-way Magic Circle. Ever since the collapse of the Molta Empire, the whole continent, which is called the Glorious Land in the eyes of a Spell Caster, seemed to have been shrouded with a mysterious energy. It was difficult for a Spell Caster to be able to leave the Glorious Land. Even a Great Wizard would find it extremely difficult to do so.
"Later on, Master made a daring attempt. He used the power of a Runic Magic Circle to gather endless energy and succeeded in launching a wormhole at last so that he could leave the Glorious Land. And Master was the first Spell Caster to leave the Glorious Land after the fall of the Molta Empire!
"The Runic Magic Circle has been utterly destroyed. It's impossible to return to the Glorious Land… Unless you're able to become a Great Legend or a Great Wizard at the very least. Only then will you have the power to find the path back to the Glorious Land."
Merlin had always felt that nothing could surprise him anymore. Nonetheless, his heart could not settle down for a long time when he heard what Didimoss had said.
He could not return to the Glorious Land, much less the Kingdom of Blackmoon or the Dark Magic Region! If he wanted to go back, he had to become a Great Wizard and find a way back to the Glorious Land. It was indeed challenging to do so in this vast and endless Dimensions Corridor.
"Didimoss, you're able to leave the Magic Circle and exist independently now that the Runic Magic Circle is destroyed?"
There was already a cold glint in Merlin's eyes. He even suspected that this was all carried out by the black cat Didimoss of his own accord, all for the sake of leaving the constraints of the Runic Magic Circle.
However, the black cat Didimoss shook his head and gave him a puzzled look. He said softly, "I don't know what's happening either. In the past, Master had said that I would vanish with the Runic Magic Circle should it be destroyed. I have no way of existing independently beyond the Runic Magic Circle… Still, it's been a thousand years since Master had left the Glorious Land. Within this time, I've felt that something has changed in me, but I don't know what this change is exactly. The Runic Magic Circle is now destroyed, yet I'm still able to exist independently. This means that this change has allowed me to exist beyond the Runic Magic Circle. I'm not certain as to what kind of existence do I possess as well…"
One could see that the black cat Didimoss was puzzled indeed. Merlin reached out a hand and grabbed gently.
"Swish."
The black cat Didimoss did not dodge or evade Merlin's grasp. He allowed Merlin's great hand to land on him. Nonetheless, Merlin was stunned when he came into contact with the black cat Didimoss His hand went past the black cat Didimoss's body without obstruction as if Didimoss did not even exist.
Merlin frowned and activated Incinerating Fire. A fist-sized wisp of flame was flung towards the black cat Didimoss, enveloping the black cat in an instant.
At this moment, the black cat Didimoss yelled in panic, "I can feel the heat of the flames. Withdraw the flames quickly! I'm about to be burned to death!"
It turned out that the black cat Didimoss was afraid of the flames. This indicated that spells were still able to harm the black cat Didimoss. Didimoss must currently be in a half-spirit form. How unique!
A true spirit would be completely unharmed by physical attacks. No matter how strong Merlin's spell was, it was still a physical attack. It would not cause the least bit of harm towards a true spirit.
The black cat Didimoss, despite not being heavily injured by the flames, was afraid of physical harm. Therefore, it was merely a half-spirit and not a true spirit.
Merlin even suspected that if the black cat Didimoss had stayed longer in the Runic Magic Circle, it would transform into a true living being with a body of flesh and blood.
However, the Runic Magic Circle was destroyed before he could transform completely. The black cat could only exist in this half-spirit form. It was because of this form of existence that the black cat Didimoss was able to escape the binding of the Runic Magic Circle.
Otherwise, if he was a true spirit, he would need a host object. The host object of the black cat Didimoss had been the Runic Magic Circle. If he was a true spirit, he would have vanished in a puff of smoke following the destruction of the Runic Magic Circle.
Merlin had finally gathered his about his wits. Since he could not return now, he might as well stop thinking about it. There was still hope that he could make it back as soon as his power was great enough.
According to the black cat Didimoss, this vast and boundless void they were in was called the Dimensions Corridor or the Void Zone. It was a fitting name. There was nothing here—no beings, no land, no air, not even space.
However, the most astonishing thing was that there was not even time. In here, Merlin could not feel the passing of time at all, which was to say, if Normies were to stay here, they would not age. They would be forever preserved in that moment they entered the Void Zone.
This was very meaningful to a Spell Caster as well. In a place without the passing of time, one could use thousands or tens of thousands of years to construct Spell Models without having to worry about life being too short. After all, even the most powerful Spell Casters and Great Wizards had limited lifespans.
The only exception was by becoming a Legend who could consolidate a Maxim!
The Great Legendary Wizards who could consolidate Maxims were comparable to gods. Their lifespans were without limits, which was to say they were immortal. This was because as long as the Elements were not wiped out, the Maxims they formed would last forever. These Maxims were the core of Legendary Wizards.
Merlin could feel the various wonders of the Void Zone, especially after realizing that time did not work here. He almost believed that the Void Zone was a "sacred place" for a Spell Caster.
Nevertheless, Merlin was disappointed after some careful observation. It was true that time did not exist here, but similarly, there was not one trace of an Element present. The spells a Spell Caster cast here must rely entirely on the Magic Power within them.
Without the oscillations of Elements from the external world, a spell's might was limited. One would need to rely upon elemental crystal stones or other treasures to replenish their Magic Power once it had been. If there were not any elemental crystal stones here, then this Void Zone was the natural graveyard of Spell Casters. They would die here for sure!
No one would be willing to enter the Void Zone unless one had sufficient elemental crystal stones with them.
"Didimoss, I can, in fact, understand the name of the Void Zone because there is no space, no time, no Elements here. It's a void. But what's the Dimensions Corridor about?"
This place had two names. One was the Void Zone, and the other was the Dimensions Corridor. Merlin guessed that it had something to with dimensions.
Didimoss nodded. "It's actually very simple. There are many mysterious dimensions in the Void Zone. Back then, Spell Casters actually entered the Void Zone right away when they stepped out of the Glorious Land. They roamed about in the Void Zone and had discovered many mystical dimensions, including the Glorious Land, which was in reality merely an insignificant dimension in the Void Zone…."
"Dimensions?"
Merlin's heart jolted. He recalled the ancient castle he had stumbled upon when he was in Subzero Snowfield. The place which Puppet Number Three was guarding. Merlin had obtained the specific coordinates of the Ecuador Dimension from Puppet Number Three.
After that, Merlin had acquired the Thunder Maxim in Sky-Piercing Peak. Within the Thunder Maxim, he had obtained the dimension coordinates that was left behind by Wizard Saitu. These two Great Legendary Wizards had occupied dimensions and had left behind the exact coordinates of those dimensions back in the Glorious Land.
However, Merlin currently had nothing but the coordinates of these two dimensions. He did not even know how to use these coordinates. How would he be able to locate the dimensions?
"Didimoss, do you know how to use the dimension coordinates?"
The black cat Didimoss shook his head. He was merely a spirit of the Runic Magic Circle. It did not matter that he had lived for a long time since he was always confined within the Dark Magic Region's Runic Magic Circle. How would he know about the coordinates of dimensions?
Nevertheless, the black cat Didimoss had suggested them to move forward in the Void Zone. The Void Zone was vast and boundless. They could enter a dimension if they found one. Perhaps they would find a way to use those coordinates then.
Merlin did not have any brilliant plan either, so he had followed Didimoss suggestion. They began to wander aimlessly in the immense and empty Void Zone.

Having been given a new life as the son of an aristocrat and armed with a super quantum computer from his past life, Spell Models game as easily as breathing to Merlin.
