Living forever and wandering from one world to another on the whims of a system that bound itself to you without a single 'by your leave' isn't all that it's cracked up to be. 

Su Li dies of chronic illness and is bound to such a system. Now, this could be considered a blessing in disguise for others.

However, the trouble is that she isn't interested in a system and to compound it all, two men - two distinctly different men - keep on following her on this world-hopping business.

Two men as incompatible as fire and water, as different as the sun and the moon. 

The only thing they share in common is Su Li and their sheer determination to not leave her side.

One of them remembers their past worlds each time they start anew, whereas the other doesn't. 

One of them says that she lights up his dark world and the other says that she is his entire world. 

One of them says that it doesn't matter if she loves him or not, she is his to cherish and pamper.

The other says that she is the only one he would ever love. 

Though sceptical and wary, Su Li decides to put her best foot forward and make the best out of her circumstances. 

Why are these two men trailing her? 

Will she be able to get rid of the shackles placed on her by the system?

Will she repudiate her deal with the system?

Will she find out the answers to all her doubts and questions or will silence and melancholy be her only answer?

Su Li was agitated by Li Rong's unceasing questions. 

She weighed her words properly and said in a hoarse voice, "It's worth it." 

Suddenly her eyes glazed in tears and she repeated her words, "He is worth it to me." 

Li Rong was stunned to see her in tears and was rendered speechless by the conviction behind her answer.

"Well, I can't change your mind. You won't leave him in a lurch and I can't turn my back on you." 

They rushed back the way they had come and prayed that it wouldn't be too late on their part.

Ch.2 - The Battle of Hogwarts
Alex watched in amazement when the first volley of attacks rained down on Hogwarts. There must have been over a hundred wizards that laid siege of the ancient castle. The great barrier that was created with the help of the school faculty performed well enough stopping all of the attacks. 
    However, when Voldemort, himself, fired an overwhelmingly powerful spell at the protective barrier, it fell apart like a fading illusion. Even when they expected this outcome, some of the defenders of Hogwarts couldn't help but shriek at the sight.
    Hope, it seemed, had abandoned them.
    Alex wondered, How could a single wizard be capable of such a magical feat? Such raw power? It was no mystery how much Voldemort was feared.
    The enemies rushed toward them like an approaching tsunami. There were giants, werewolves, and acrumantulas among them. It seemed like their worst nightmare had come alive.
    As the giants were ploughing the stone men-at-arms of Hogwarts, the wizards who could fly have done so to cross the ravine. Being one of the defenders who were adept at flying, Alex had gotten on his broom and taken flight as a part of an impromptu flying formation made up of former and current Hogwarts quidditch players.
    The battle raged on as Alex and his squad rained spell fire on the enemies while avoiding incoming spells as one would avoid a bludger. The other flying wizards recognized his skill and naturally began to follow his lead. This way, they were able to counter the onslaught of the airborne assault of the enemies.
    However, the battle on the ground was a different matter. The defenders were just too outnumbered. Furthermore, they were comprised mostly of older Hogwarts students, while the enemies were more experienced and merciless fighters.
    It took several spells before they could take down a giant, while the werewolves use their superior speed to flank their defences. There were also dementors who joined the chaos. Fortunately, they were repelled quite easily by a powerful omnidirectional Patronus charm.
    After just an hour of fighting, the castle was already unrecognizable from how it was that morning. Even the stone of the castle was aflame. The courtyard was where the battle was heaviest. Whatever battle lines they had drawn earlier was long forgotten.
    Alex swooped in and fired a 'Bombarda Maxima' at an area where enemy wizards were concentrated. He didn't bother looking at the result of his attack before retreating from some angry wizards who have taken flight to chase him by turning into a black smoke the way Death Eaters were known to do. His experience as a quidditch chaser enabled him to choose his engagements wisely, knowing when to press and retreat as the situation required.
    He signalled his flight squad members and pointed at the giant in the middle of the courtyard. It seemed to be one of the giant leaders as it was wielding a large halberd and wearing some rudimentary armour.
    They formed an attack line and dived toward the giant. The explosions came at quick succession as they peppered the monster with 'Bombarda' and 'Reducto'. The giant fell down like lumber, wailing in anguish.
    However, even with a number of successful engagement on their part, their side was still on the losing end. With the Hogwarts wards shattered, the enemies were able to come and go into the castle. Alex decided to join the fighting on the ground. He left the command of the flight squad to a 7th-year student who performed pretty well despite her age.
    He blasted one of the windows, then, he flew in the opening. He found himself in one of the classrooms, and from there, he proceeded to secure the corridor outside. He didn't have to wait too long before finding two wizards strutting along looking for more victims.
    With their back against him, he quickly fired two 'Flipendo', knocking the enemy back. Then to finish them off, he sent a 'Diffindo' on each of their necks, killing them quickly with a big slash on their throats.
    As a fighter, Alex preferred using simple spells whenever he could. They were easier and quicker to cast, and the results were much more predictable. He never really understood the purebloods' fear and reverence towards the 'Unforgivables' and the Dark Arts.
    He had gone from one corridor to another in search of more enemies. Whenever he saw a fighter on their side, he lent a hand. If he found an enemy, he struck decisively. There was no point in holding back. Especially, when the enemy clearly could control dementors and escape from Azkaban whenever they wanted.
    In one corridor, he found the current Head of the Department of Magical Enforcement, Corban Yaxley, who was retreating from wherever he came from along with two other Death Eaters.
    "'Bombarda'!" shouted Alex as he fired the curse along their path. 
    The ground exploded sending pieces of the floor to all directions. The three wizards were thrown back due to the blast. He made sure the two Death Eaters were dead with a cutting charm to their necks, saving Yaxley for last. Then, he made sure to take the enemy's wand.
    "Incarcerous," he worded. Yaxley was tied up tightly with a rope. He dragged him to a nearby room, locked the door, then sound-proofed the room with a spell.
    Alex revived the man and greeted him, "Hello Yaxley."
    " Who are you?" asked Yaxley quickly recognizing his situation.
    "You don't know me. You and I don't really run with the same crowd if you know what I mean," said Alex with a grin.
    "Mudblood! How dare you do this to me!?" yelled Yaxley.
    " How dare I? I'll tell you. It was quite easy. I dare to do it because I have magic!"
    "Your kind is a plague to our world! You should be glad that we let you live!"
    "But you didn't, let us live, I mean. You persecuted us, imprison us, and humiliate us. And now, it's come to this. Purebloods, mudbloods, it doesn't matter. This war you started will eventually kill them all just the same," he said accusingly. "But that is for tomorrow, let's focus on the now. You are here lying by my heel. Mudblood and pureblood, only one of us will be walking away. I wonder who?"
    "You wouldn't dare! The Dark Lord will hunt you, your families!"
    Alex laughed aloud. "This is exactly how I want you to be!" he exclaimed. "Let's see how long you can stay proud! 'Crucio'!"
    The spell caused Yaxley to scream, his body convulsing uncontrollably. Alex held the spell for about ten seconds.
    After recovering his breath, Yaxley was still glaring at him defiantly. Just as when he was about to say something, Alex hit him with another curse.
    He knew that he should be out there fighting, but he couldn't help himself. He tortured Yaxley until the man was drooling on the floor, body spasming uncontrollably.
    "It looks like our time has come to an end," said Alex as he pulled up Yaxley's head by the hair, making sure that their eyes met. "I want you to know that a mudblood was the one that sent you on your way," he said calmly.
    " No… Please…" pleaded Yaxley.
    "'Diffindo'," he said softly. He put more than usual power in the spell causing Yaxley's head to be completely cut off.
    Alex walked out of the room leaving the body there on the classroom floor. He knew some people would find it later. He could only imagine how they would react. Would they be shocked, horrified, or vindicated? Would they see the irony as he did?
    Then just as before, the Dark Lord's voice was heard again throughout the castle. This time he said that he was ordering his followers to withdraw from Hogwarts, and, that Harry Potter should surrender himself to him at the Forbidden Forest before the night was over. If not, he would kill anyone who dared to hide the boy from him.
    This allowed the defenders of the castle some much-needed break. When he reached the Great Hall, he saw where the Weasley family was gathered. Mrs Weasley was crying loudly. One of the Weasley boys, Fred, had died. He immediately went to Bill to offer his sympathies.
    The Weasley's were just one of the many people grieving in the Great Hall. Nymphadora Tonks and her husband were also among the casualties. The most unfortunate, he found, were the number of students that died that night.
    "I'm so sorry, Bill. He was too young," he said solemnly.
    "He was such a joker, my brother," said Bill. "It feels like one of his jokes. I just didn't—"
    "He didn't die in vain."
    "I'll make sure that he didn't," Bill promised.

Alex was resting in a quiet spot when he realized that Harry Potter was nowhere to be seen.
    Did the boy go to the Forbidden Forest, he wondered.  That boy, he said to himself, even if he was Harry 'goddamn' Potter, he surely couldn't do that to them.
    Even if he didn't know the details, he believed that Harry Potter was the key to finally defeating Voldemort. The Order of the Phoenix made that clear enough. So, he could not let the boy get himself killed and let all they'd done be in vain.
    He decided to go to the Forbidden Forest himself while using an invisibility charm. He followed the most likely route that anyone would take, and before long, he'd found Harry Potter.
    He was about to give the Boy-Who-Lived a talking to when he heard him speaking. He couldn't make up the words from where he was hiding, but it was obvious enough to know that the boy was talking to someone. However, there wasn't anyone else there.
    Was he talking to ghosts? He wondered. No, he would have seen it otherwise.
    Harry Potter was holding a small stone before dropping it on the ground. After that, Harry went on to his destination.
    Alex picked up the stone and wondered what it was. It was an eight-sided grey crystal with a strange symbol within. He decided to keep it as he had a feeling that it could be important later on.
    He restored his invisibility and followed the direction where Harry had gone. When he found Harry, he was standing in front of Voldemort and his followers. He also saw Hagrid, the half-giant, held back in chains as he struggled in vain to get to Harry.
    Before Alex could do anything, the Dark Lord sent a powerful Killing Curse towards Harry. A big explosion happened upon the curse's impact. Both the caster and the target were knocked over at the same time.
    Alex was in disbelief of what he just witnessed. The Boy-Who-Lived was dead. And somehow, his death has affected the Dark Lord who had fallen over and was visibly disoriented. Alex didn't know what might have happened to the Dark Lord, but, the only thing on his mind was the dead Harry Potter.
    Without thinking much further, Alex tighten his hold on his wand and charged.
    "'Bombarda Maxima'!" he yelled, putting as much power as he could with the spell. 
    He followed it up with a quick 'Reducto' aimed at one of the wizards who was restraining Hagrid before the Death Eaters could recover from their surprise.
    "Hagrid! Get Harry!" he yelled.
    The half-giant roared like a bull and ran towards the fallen Harry. No one could stop him as he bulldozed everything that tried to stop him. Alex did his best to protect him from hostile spells.
    After Hagrid had picked up Harry, Alex looked over to the enemy. He knew he had to stop them from chasing Hagrid. With Voldemort weakened, it might just be his only chance. There was one curse he could use to either stop the enemies or force them to retreat. Being inside a forest, he knew it could very well lead to his death.
    "You forced me into this! Fuck you all!"
    He held his wand aloft and cast 'Fiendfyre' with all the power he could muster. A continuous gout of cursed flame came from the tip of his wand, forming into a fiery bird as it descended upon the Death Eaters.
    Then, a spell fired by Bellatrix Lestrange struck him from the side which blasted him away unconscious. His wand arm was missing, blown-off by the spell. The cursed flame was already fully unleashed, however.
    Bellatrix had left the Dark Lord's side when the chaos started, too mad and impulsive to prioritize her weakened master. Before she could do anything else, she was engulfed by the cursed flame. In her last moment, she caught a glimpse of the fallen Voldemort and his snake as they burned before she was dead.
    Anyone who did not have the presence of mind to dis-apparate was consumed by the fire. Whenever the flame stalled, it split up forming into more fiery beasts. Eventually, the fire has consumed all living beings on that side of the forest including its creator.
    That event was later known as the Great Forest Burning. It was the single most destructive fire of the Magical world. There were more than a hundred pureblood wizards and witches that died in the forest.
    Many of the creatures that lived there also perished in the flame, most notable were the werewolves and acrumantulas. It was a saving grace that the centaurs and the unicorns were on the other side of the forest and were able to escape before they got surrounded by the fire.
    The most amazing news, however, was the death of Lord Voldemort and most of his closest followers. Another news being celebrated was the survival of Harry Potter when Hagrid carried him out of the burning forest.
    The name Alexander Grey was known to every witch and wizard of Britain after that night. Speculations to his origins were a favourite topic among historians in the following years. Some claimed that he was a great hero, a martyr, while, others labelled him as a terrible villain. However, all of them would agree that Alexander Grey had forever changed the wizarding world.

CHAPTER THREE:

It was only when he appeared outside the gates to the school grounds that it truly hit him that he was back in time. As soon as he saw the undamaged fields and the unharmed castle in the background he sank to the ground, other images flashing before his eyes. Hermione bleeding to death near the lake; dead students' lifeless eyes; the burning East Wing; Voldemort's grin as he cast the death blow that had somehow sent him back in time instead of killing him…

It was only when he was shaken violently that he snapped back to the present and realized that Snape had crouched down before him and taken him by the shoulders. Before the scowling man could say anything Harry grabbed him by the shoulders in turn, his eyes haunted.

"Please tell me they're alive," he begged his former professor. "Please tell me that I'm really in the past and that they're all alive," Harry said, his voice breaking as Ron's lifeless face flashed before his eyes. He didn't know the man well enough to tell, but he could have sworn that Snape looked concerned.

"The only recent death was that of Cedric Diggory," Snape replied, his dark eyes grounding Harry to the current reality. "The revels have not begun yet, so neither wizards nor Muggles have died recently."

"Thank God," Harry sobbed, tipping his head back to face the sky, tears spilling over and running down his cheeks. "I won't fail you again," he whispered brokenly, remembering all the people that had died because of him. "I'm so sorry," he choked out between sobs, lowering his head and covering his face with his hands. "So, so sorry…" He didn't know how long he spent huddled that way, sobbing into his hands, but the firm warmth of Snape's hands never left his shoulders, and for that he was more thankful than he could say.

When he had calmed down somewhat he dropped his hands from his face, took a deep breath and cast a weak cleaning charm at his face before opening his eyes and meeting the gaze of his former professor. "Sorry," he croaked, and Snape simply held his gaze.

"I assume that the future did not run as you told the Dark Lord," he said eventually, and Harry smiled grimly.

"Not at all," he said, and his voice sounded rusty even to himself. "In fact, he was actually trying to kill me when he somehow sent me back in time." He closed his eyes and forced out the next words. "It was a last stand. Here, at Hogwarts. We had sworn that we would protect the students." Impossibly, he felt tears welling up once more, and he opened his eyes and looked to the sky to stop the tears. "We failed."

Silence enveloped them once more, and it was somehow a comforting silence. Eventually Harry found his voice and continued, his eyes still on the sky. "It was a great loss when we lost you, sir." He paused, recalling how they had discovered the Potions Master in the dungeons of Malfoy Manor, tortured until he was nearly unrecognizable. "I was unable to kill Lestrange then," Harry said, gritting his teeth. "Mrs. Weasley got her, but the entire Weasley family except for Ron perished in the resulting explosion." His eyes burning, he met the unsettled gaze of the man before him. "I got Malfoy now, though," he said with vicious triumph. "He deserved worse, but I didn't think I could live with myself if I raped him to death as he did to Susan." Snape flinched, and Harry smiled grimly. "Sorry. I'll try to leave the past where it belongs. It helps neither of us to go over events that won't happen now." Rising, he waited until Snape had risen again before extending a hand to him.

"It is good to see you again, sir," he said honestly, his eyes wandering over the man's face and taking in the details. It had been a year since the spy's death, but even so Harry realized that this younger version of Snape had not yet acquired the grey hair and lines that the second war had given him. Looking at him now and knowing how much both wars had taken out of the man had Harry vowing silently that he would do everything he could to change things this time around. It had only been after Dumbledore's death that he had found out what a formidable person Snape really was, and while it had been too late to forge a friendship they had both gained a lot of respect for the other. They had been the leaders of the Order after Dumbledore's death, and they had learned to work together. Of course, this Snape hadn't experienced what Harry had, and all he knew was the Golden Boy whom he hated with a passion.

"I realize that you have not experienced what I have," Harry said calmly, "and you do not know me as I truly am. All I ask is that you treat me as a separate person from Gryffindor Harry, for the things I said to Snake Face were perfectly true – Dumbledore did keep me drugged and spellbound, and the Harry you know is what Dumbledore wants him to be. Harry is not James Potter; it is Dumbledore's influence that makes him appear that way." Meeting the dark gaze earnestly, Harry added, "He has a few compulsion spells on you, too, as well as a persuasion charm to keep you from questioning him."

The dark eyes flashed. "And you know this how?" Snape bit out. Harry noted that the man had yet to remove his hand from his hold.

"Madam Pomfrey checked us all," Harry replied. "After Dumbledore died several of us noticed marked changes in our own behavior, and as Madam Pomfrey was the first to notice she insisted on checking all the teachers, students and Order members for spells. I had the most, closely followed by you, Madam Pomfrey, Professor McGonagall and Remus, then Ron and Hermione, and an assortment of spells and potions used on various teachers and Order members. I don't care to think about how he managed to keep up so many spells for so many years. From Madam Pomfrey's scans it appeared as though you and Remus were exposed to the spells for far longer – even going as far back as your own time as Hogwarts students." Harry watched his companion closely for a reaction, and he caught it when a flicker of strong emotion crossed the dark eyes. Holding that gaze, he said softly, "There were traces of a love potion in your system as well."

A pause as Snape assimilated that information, then a shuttered expression came over the man's face and he ripped his hand from Harry's grasp. Turning away, Snape strode up the path to Hogwarts, leaving Harry standing alone by the gates with a regretful expression on his face. When his time's Snape had found out about the spells and love potion he had shut himself away from the world for a week, and it had been over a year later that Harry had found out that the love potion had been keyed to Lily Evans, and that Snape's love for Lily had been the reason that he had turned to Dumbledore and ended up as the Order's spy. Dumbledore has a lot to answer for, Harry thought grimly, wondering who would be the one to kill him this time around.

Slowly Harry made his way up the path to Hogwarts, each step a struggle now that exhaustion had kicked in. He hoped his luck wouldn't run out just yet and that he'd make it to the Room of Requirement without running into anyone, and hopefully he'd have enough energy to pen Snape a note before succumbing to exhaustion. He felt like he could sleep for a week, then spend a day in the shower before eating a whole cow. Life had not been easy in the future.

A/N: I'm not sure yet where this is going, but Severus will definitely play a huge part. I do think this will end up as slash (in the previous future Harry was together with a woman, but she's reserved, in a way, for this time's Harry – confusing, no?) with the obvious pairing being Harry/Severus. There are few people in the new timeline that will be able to understand Harry, since he'll do everything he can to prevent the atrocities that he's seen. Ron and Hermione, certainly, won't understand the future Harry, but Severus will. It'll take a while for that to develop, though, so even if you don't like slash fiction, don't feel deterred!

Chapter 2
     Waking up to a splitting headache an hunger pangs was not the way I wanted to return to land of the living, however I was alive, so still it was a bonus.
     As I opened my eyes it only got worse. I was in a shabby small room that looked like a rerun of the 80s. From a certain British tv show with a certain galavanting male hero wall posters to a certain mechanical nightmare that screamed something along the lines of kill all humans when I stepped on it, while getting my bearings, it was definitely a child's room an messy. 
     I then heard a snap an remembered something awful. Yes, all my years in this body's memories came back to me. Thankfully none of the baby memories made it through except for maybe a flash or two, first words and steps an so on.
     Ok, down to business I thought. What year is it. I walked over to a wall calendar I saw sitting atop a very worn used desk with stickers all over it. The date read July 1, 1990, if I remember correctly Harry received his letter in 1991, so great I have about 10 months to get ready. 
     There was only a itsy, bitsy, teeny, weeny, problem. I unfortunately did not have any memory of the accidental magic variety. No exploding chestnuts under the teachers desk or weird teleporting away from bully incidents. For all intents an purpose's I was a muggle. I couldn't believe it my retirement slash second chance at life was gonna be wasted away being a muggle while knowing for a fact I was in HPV. (Will have this as Harry Potter Universe because it takes to long to type)

     Staring at a mirror I remembered it was James Kirk Howlett, and staring back at me was a young, with messy hair, boy with Asian an Caucasian features. Doing the quick check for all the important bits, hmm so I am a mix whatever in my original life I was part Cajun French,German an scotch Irish so basically mix of a different variety. Getting back to my self rambling wasn't there a special skill or something Bob gave me?
     For the next 10 mins I kept calling out all the most embarrassing things I could think of like fireball in a silly pose or menu while looking around. Amidst my inner monologue a hand tapped me on my head. I turned around and was immediately embarrassed. Why you ask? Because my sister of 7 years was staring at me like I was a weirdo and said mom says to come eat breakfast. I smiled while sneering a little sure sorry I didn't hear you if you knocked. 
     Whatever she said an left.
     After my sister left I did see a small dot on the bottom of my eye site. Blinking I tried concentrating on it an boom a text screen of blue popped up in my face.

I wore the amulets right in the bank. At a small cafe near Gringotts, I had a cup of hot chocolate and went shopping. At the bookstore, I took a freshman kit, a charms review book, a household charms book, and a catalog. From Madame Malkin bought a dark robe that looked like an ordinary raincoat, and at that I decided to finish shopping. I need to find a base and get some rest. I feel like a robot in a hurry to assimilate information. It's perfect to get to Grimmo 12. I don't know what I'll do if it doesn't work out. Where is Grimmo Square? I don't know. I had to take off the muggle repellent amulet and get a cab.
        The engine buzzes slightly, the teddy seat warms up my body. My evil thoughts gradually erupted into an unpleasant ball of emotion. Suddenly, the driver seems to be bored with the noble song of the engine. The scoundrel has embraced a typical melody of small but very proud peoples who do not sit in their mountainous homeland. The car's not black Austin; so I'm in the frenzy of hatred after the bank and I'm hooked up with a private driver. On the one hand, that's good, the official exchange will report to a policeman about an overly independent boy. On the other hand, I'm in the ass of the world. At last, he was quiet: Now he was clearly in heaven, surrounded by lustful sinners with sodomites, biting the first juicy fruit of sin and filth.
        I took a handkerchief with my left hand and leaned between the front seats. The trophies were a small pack of small banknotes and a small revolver. It's time for me to leave quickly. I put on a muggle repellent amulet, pressed the trunk opening button, and got out of the car.

"The oldest and noblest Black family on the verge of death. The foolish Sirius in Azkaban. He's got a lot of enemies. He'll die either in prison or right after he leaves her. Regulus died in the service of half-blooded bastard Riddle, who..."
"How dare you speak of the Dark Lord like that, you filthy dirty bastard?"
"I am like the son of two wizards, pureblood. And Riddle's father was a despicable Muggle. Besides, Riddle branded the two children of the Ancient and Noble House Black as slaves. And you dare call that scum a lord?"
        Walburga was all outraged, obviously torn up to say something, but she didn't have time to make up her mind.
"Besides, you're the one who didn't follow Sirius! So he's fallen under the harmful influence of the hero of Light Dumbledore. And all heroism is the deception of his lover Grindelwald. Because of your oversight of Sirius in Azkaban."
"Why are you telling me all this dirt?"
"We have common enemies. Dumbledore and Riddle pushed the children away from our families and killed our relatives. We share the same goals, and if we let it go, ten years from now there's no Black family or Potter family. We share a vendetta. I know how to get Sirius back, I know how to put his brains in the right place. I know how to rip him off the crap Dumbledore's talking about. Make up your mind, you with me?"
"Why does a boy suddenly sound like an adult? Even if you're not lying, you don't have the strength for revenge! Look at you, you're useless."
"Dumbledore set my parents up under Riddle's wand. The old bastard bypassed my parents' will, kidnapped me and dumped me in the care of the Muggle bastards. What's more, now that bearded bastard is trying to make me become his puppet. He sees me as an obedient fanatic and wants to marry me to a blood traitor so that the Ancient Potter family can be interrupted. If I marry a blood traitor, the Potter legacy will be lost to me.         I heard a good thought once. "Don't deal with fools, think about how much time you'll save if you don't deal with them." It's said about Walburga. She sits up to her ears in shit, and when they offer her soap, she turns her nose up. The smell isn't refined enough. If I continue to deal with the Black family, the first thing I'll do is destroy a Walburga portrait. 
It was about general, now about private. I've had thirteen hours, the most intense in my new life, on my feet. I urgently need a rest. It's day, summer, I can sleep outside, but it'll wear me out. I went to the phone box.
"Reference? I need the address of Dr. Granger, a dentist living in Crowley."
