Zhang Yun is a gaming hamster. For a special mission in the Lost Kingdom, he has been a hamster for ten years. To his surprise one day, the game suddenly announces that the server will be permanently going offline just as he's about to complete the mission…

However, at the moment the game goes permanently offline, he actually brings the game system to an alternate world. He also brings along everything in his inventory, including his hundred million summoning scrolls.

Uh?

For a ten-year hamster to become rich overnight, what worries does he have at conquering the alternate world?

Ah, I'm sorry. You're mistaken. I don't want to fight. I just want to be a silent hamster…

Zhang Yun has a habit of hoarding stuff in games. For the sake of a special quest in the game 'Lost Kingdom', he's been hoarding all kinds of items for ten years straight. Just as he's on the verge of completing that quest, suddenly there comes an announcement that the server will be taken offline.
And then, at the moment of shutdown, he's transported into the game world, along with everything in his inventory... including one hundred million summoning scrolls.

The hamster in the empress's hands started inhaling deeply to puff up like a balloon and roared even louder.
"Roar!"
Her hair and red dress fluttered due to the movement of the sound waves.
Ren Baqian, who was on top of a tree, covered his ears in alarm.
He had used a loudspeaker before to convince others and was more sensitive and knowledgeable about sound levels.
The roar of this hamster-like animal was around 170 decibels.
The buzz of a chainsaw is about 110 decibels and a jet plane is around 130.
The noise produced by launching a rocket is only about 160 to 170 decibels 
In comparison, the roar of this hamster was louder than a rocket being launched.
170 decibels of noise could cause instant deafness and even death at close range.
Although it could only kill ordinary people, this was enough to show how powerful it was.
Even an Earth Wheel expert would be seriously harmed if this level of sound was heard at close range.
For example, Ren Baqian's ears were buzzing after this roar and all other sounds became muffled.
He was more than 10 meters away and not in the path of the roar, yet he was still greatly affected.
One could imagine the impact to the empress who was carrying it.
Fortunately, the empress was incomparable to ordinary people. Although she received the full impact of the roar, she didn't suffer any harm. Seeing it try to inhale deeply, the empress shook her hand, causing the hamster to immediately become like a deflated ball. Its partially inflated body returned to the original shape.
"Woof! Woof, woof!!" The bichi on the branch barked at the hamster. Presuming that everything had been settled, it entered the forest. 
Ren Baqian and Lin Qiaole jumped down from the branches and landed beside the empress. Ren Baqian circled around the empress twice to inspect the hamster thoroughly before saying, "It's male!"
"What's male?" the empress asked in surprise.
"This fellow is male." Ren Baqian pointed at the hamster in her hand.
The empress showed her displeasure.
Did you go around me a few times just to find out whether this is male or female?
You at (TLC. Not sure about this.) Qishui and the crow general every day, and the first thing you look for when seeing this animal was to find out its sex.
What kind of bizarre habit was this?
"This thing is really loud." Ren Baqian looked at the hamster. It was indeed a hamster and looked similar to those found on Earth. Its mouth was shorter, it had two large incisors, and its cheeks were for storing food and quite droopy. 
The only differences were the color of its fur coat and it size, which was much bigger.
At this moment, its eyes were spinning around as it tried to make sense of the situation.
"Let's go back first," the empress said as she held the hamster by the neck. She had not expected this creature to cause everyone to be jittery.
"Your Majesty, if this thing makes noise, it's quite deadly. Better to be careful and kill it in order to prevent trouble," Ren Baqian said. This animal was unlike other animals—even a whisper from it near your ears would be unbearable. It was simply too dangerous.
"Woof!"
Ren Baqin was surprised to hear this bark and thought that the bichi was back.
However, this sound was coming from that small thing before them.
"Woof, woof!!" That hamster seemed to understand what Ren Baqian was saying. It not only changed its roar to sound like the bichi, but also lowered its volume. It looked at the empress with brimming eyes and furiously wagged its tail.
In fact, its tail was very short and just a knob. It was more like it was shaking its butt than wagging its tail.
Not to mention other characteristics of this thing, but it seemed to have an inborn ability to please humans.
The empress instantly softened upon seeing this behavior.
Ladies can never resist furry animals.
It would have been a different matter if it had put up fierce resistance, but it looked pitiful and won the heart of the empress. She brought it in front of her face and said, "You seem to understand what people say. If you roar indiscriminately, no one can save you."
The hamster shook its butt even faster.
"Let's go back first," the empress said.
On the way back to their original location, the three of them moved at a slower speed through the forest and saw many winged cavalry warriors waiting nervously for them.
When they saw the empress, everyone instantly rejoiced.
The xiong yan's roaring had stopped, and they had not heard any sounds of fighting. They were making wild speculations and were relieved once they saw the empress.
The empress returned to her carriage and called for Gong Zheng and Ya Sheng. She let them see the hamster and asked, "Is this a xiong yan?"
"No!" Ya Sheng shook his head like a rattle.
"What is this then?"
"It looks like a male hamster!" Ya Sheng said carefully.
The empress was angry not because he said that it was a hamster, but because he said "male hamster."
He was exactly the same as Ren Baqian.
"Why did Your Majesty bring back a hamster?" The two of them were puzzled.
"The roaring was coming from it," Ren Baqian said casually from the side.
"That's impossible!" Their immediate response was disbelief. How was it possible for this thing to roar so fiercely? 
Having seen a xiong yan before, Ya Sheng was very sure that the roars they previously heard were definitely from a xiong yan.
"Are you doubting Her Majesty? Do you want to hear the roar?" Ren Baqian gave a sly smile.
"We don't dare!" the two of them replied.
The hamster seemed to understand Ren Baqian and turned to look at the empress who was behind it.
"Roar," the empress commanded coldly.
"Inhale!"
"Roar!"
It sounded like a rumble of thunder on the ground.
The roar of the hamster caused mayhem all around. The jumping goats galloped wildly all over the mountain with the winged cavalry warriors still mounted on them.
The only people remaining were the empress, Ren Baqian, Qing Yuan, Hong Luan, Lin Qiaole, and the two people standing in front of them.
Among them, Qing Yuan, Hong Luan, Gong Zheng, and Ya Sheng were the miserable looking ones.
Qing Luan and Hong Yuan were standing behind the hamster, but their power was too weak.
Gong Zheng and Ya Sheng were hit head on. It was as if they were struck by a hammer, forcing them to retreat a few steps as they staggered and lost control of their bodies.
The loud noise had momentarily damaged their sense of balance.
The hamster showed a triumphant look after roaring.
It had great confidence in its roar.
Ren Baqian lowered his hands that had been covering his ears and laughed at the two of them before asking, "How does it feel?"
"…" The two of them looked at Ren Baqian blankly. Their ears were buzzing, and they couldn't hear what he was saying.
"Your noses are bleeding…" Ren Baqian pointed at them.
"Sh*t! Their eyes and ears are bleeding too." Even Ren Baqian was taken aback.
Would the two of them suffer serious harm?
After seven or eight minutes, the two of them gradually recovered, proving that Ren Baqian was overreacting.
However, everyone still had to raise their voices while talking to them because these two couldn't hear clearly otherwise.
"Tell me, how do I deal with you?" the empress asked as she put down the hamster.
From Ren Baqian's point of view, the hamster was looking meek.
"Your Majesty, this hamster appears to be of some use. You might as well keep it," Ren Baqian said.
In fact, it was far more than useful.
Gong Zheng was a Kismet Heaven expert, but a hamster who could do nothing but roar had caused him to lose his balance and bleed from his ears and nose.
This was a testament to the power of its roar.
It was practically a living acoustic weapon.
The next day, Ren Baqian was still worried that the hamster would find a chance to run away, but he gradually came to realize that not only did the hamster not run away at night, it was getting closer to people.
This included the empress, Ren Baqian, Qing Yuan, Hong Luan, and everyone else.
Qing Yuan and Hong Luan happily played with it and rubbed its belly incessantly.
It also liked to turn over on its belly to be petted even though Ren Baqian hit his little birdie…
This hamster seemed to have a natural tendency to ingratiate itself with people.
Ren Baqian named it "the roaring emperor!"
Ren Baqian felt that no other name was more appropriate.
Aside from this, he discovered that this hamster could imitate the calls of other animals.
It not only imitated the bark of the bichi, it could also bleat like a jumping sheep.
Its mimicry was so good that a person couldn't differentiate it from a real jumping goat if they closed their eyes. Even the winged cavalry warriors couldn't do so.
This made Ren Baqian suspect that it was initially imitating the roar of the xiong yan to frighten other animals such as the bichi, which led to the events that happened later.


In a world where its inhabitants can destroy a city wall single-handedly, the empress has a kirin as her pet, and the imperial palace of Great Xia has a pool containing a dragon. There is also a Sword Mountain where spirit swords occasionally leave in search of a master .

Bootlicking the empress, Ren Baqian ascended to the apex of life.　　


When the students heard that they were about to save the hamsters, their eyes widened and their hearts raced. They listened carefully. 
Zhang Zian took the opportunity to explain the science behind it first.　　
Hibernation was a basic instinct to many animals. From small rodents, to reptiles, to bears, they all chose to hibernate to withstand the harsh weather when food became scarce. During hibernation, the animals had lower body temperature and slower metabolisms. They could spend the entire winter without eating, drinking or moving.
Before entering hibernation, animals made preparations to fatten themselves up, so that they had enough fat to consume and to keep them warm. They chose a safe, quiet, and warm nest to hide out. By the time they came out, spring already arrived.　　
Shi Shi liked to put a sweater on the Labrador she owned with Liu Sanlang. Zhang Zian had explained "surface area to volume ratio" to her. Smaller animals had higher surface area to volume ratios, so they were more likely to lose heat. Therefore, medium to large-sized dogs didn't need extra clothing in winter, only small dogs needed the extra help. Hamsters, since they were very small, were sensitive to temperature changes.　 
Hamsters' hibernation were rushed, as they didn't know enough to prepare for it. They entered hibernation as soon as their environment became too harsh. This type of hibernation was dangerous because there was a chance they'd never wake up. To scientists, calling the hamsters' behavior "hibernation" was an insult to the other animals, so they called it "pseudo-hibernation." 　　 
Zhang Zian had only been there for a few minutes, but he had already spotted a few problems. They didn't use pure wood chips, the cages were in the north instead of the south, the humidity in the room was a little high, etc. All were reasons that could've forced the hamsters into hibernation, but the main reason was the temperature.　　 
"I'll help you move the cages so that they're in the south. There are two things that caused the pseudo-hibernation. One is the low temperature, the other is the short daylight hours. I'll need you to split up and prepare some stuff, but let's revive them first. Do you have a kettle? To boil some water. Do you have syringes?" Zhang asked.　 
"There's a kettle in the classroom. I'll go get it." A little boy volunteered.
Wang Yaning frowned and said, "The syringes are in the biology classroom and the school clinic, but they're both closed right now. Should we buy some?"　　
"I'll go. I know a convenience store nearby that sells toy syringes," another boy said. After getting Zhang Zian's approval, he ran outside, then ran back and asked, "How many should I buy?"  
"Just one. The cheapest one will do." Zhang Zian put up one finger.　　 
"Okay." The boy ran out again.　　
"Does anyone have candy?" Zhang Zian asked.　　
"I do," another girl spoke in a shy voice.　　
"We'll need to supplement sugar to the hamsters. Do you mind if we use your candy? A small piece will do." Zhang Zian said gently.　
"Okay." The girl took some candy out of her pocket and put it on the desk.　
Zhang Zian nodded at her, then spoke to everyone, "Stretch out your hands, and rub them like this, until your palms are hot."　　 
He rubbed his palms quickly to demonstrate. They followed his example and rubbed their palms until they became red and hot.　
"Okay. Now, everybody grab a hamster. If you think that it's getting cold, rub your hands again, and blow on it with your mouths." As Zhang Zian spoke, he picked up a hamster from the cage.　　 
The three girls each chose a hamster, put them in warm palms, and brought them near their mouths to breathe warm air on them.　　 
This was the simplest and safest way to warm the hamsters up. Using hot water or heated blankets could backfire since the temperature was harder to control. However, Zhang Zian had only heard of this method, but he wasn't sure if it would work.　　 
The heat emitted from their palms traveled to the hamsters, and the hot air from their mouths was like a warm wind.　　 
"I'm back!" The boy that went to fetch the kettle returned first, with a silver stainless steel kettle in his hand. "Is this okay?"　
"Yes." Zhang Zian looked at the kettle doubtfully. "Is that an electric kettle? Where's the dock with the cord? Do you plan to boil the water with fire?"　　 
The girls couldn't stop chuckling. 　　 
The boy paused, then looked at the kettle in his hand, and felt massively embarrassed. He stuttered, "I...I'll head back to get it..."　　 
"Wait!" Zhang Zian stopped him. "Put the kettle down, then go get the dock."
The boy dashed out as soon as he put the kettle down, running faster than last time.　 
After a while, the second boy came back with a toy syringe. Zhang Zian gave him a hamster, and asked him to do what the girls were doing to heat up the hamster.　　 
A few minutes later, the first boy came back again. He brought the dock for the kettle.　 
"Fill the kettle halfway, and boil the water. Be careful not to burn yourselves," Zhang Zian commanded.　　 
It only took a couple of minutes for the water to boil.　　 
Zhang Zian gave his hamster to the boy who brought the kettle. He poured half the hot water into a small glass, then took a tiny piece of candy and put it into the hot water. The candy dissolved and disappeared quickly.　　 
He shook the glass to mix the sugar well. After the water cooled down to an appropriate temperature, he drew enough water to fill the toy syringe, opened the mouth of the hamster in the boy's hands, and injected the warm sugar water into its mouth.　　 
He repeated the process with the other hamsters.　　 
He put the syringe down. He had done everything he could, and now all he could do was wait.　　 
Little Celery nervously looked at the Winter White hamster in her hands. If looks had heat, hers could melt ice. 　　
Suddenly, she felt a twitch in her palms, as if something had scratched her.　　 
The hamster wiggled its body and opened its eyes.

The natural beauty of green bamboo was now filled with green snakes ready to snap if anybody got too close. A tiled pathway led to an earth shrine with an oversized monkey on top.


"Why have you come?" asked the monkey.


"Oh, so we have to talk to him to get the animal spirits?" asked Jaivva.


The monkey hissed towards them until Logan came in its way.


"We come to make a pact for Jaivva and Vanessa. That's all," said Logan, calming the beastly monkey.


Mimi called out to the two girls, "Hey, yall two need to be careful what you say here. Let Logan do the talking".


"What pact must you seek?" asked the monkey.


Logan first turned towards Jaivva, "What animal do you want as your spirit animal"?


In a high-pitched voice, Jaivva responded, "I didn't know we could pick. Oh my God. Let me think".


"Vanessa, what about you?" asked Logan.


Vanessa twirled her hair and looked in every direction except Logan. Her oblivious behavior amused everybody except Jaivva who wasn't paying attention.


"Take your time girl," said Kiki.


Logan shouted, "Noooo! Let's get this going. How about a feral cat? I know you love cats".


"I dooo," said Vanessa, "Buuuuuu-".


"Okay, so I'm stuck between a dog and a panda," said Jaivva.


"How about a bear," suggested Logan, "They're pretty strong and durable. It would really balance your skills".


"I don't want a bear though. I want a panda," said Jaivva.


Kiki pointed out there were enough dogs in the community. It would be nice having a panda around. The deal was sealed and Jaivva wanted a Panda. Logan bickered that it wasn't sensible to exclude herself from the rest of the bears.

Vanessa stared up with a finger on her lips and said, "I mean, I do like cats".


Dani budded in, "I mean, it's okay if you want to be a cat. I'm a cougar and Mimi is a tiger. But, what do you really want"?


Arguing with Jaivva ended with Logan requesting the panda trials for her. The monkey beast began evaluating her. Shaking from the unexpected evaluation, Jaivva jumped when the monkey approved her for the panda trials. 


After giving a thumbs up, Logan looked towards Vanessa. She was fighting a forceful smile. Logan wished for a decent answer. But God the look on her face was that of a mentally ill. Cheeks reddened as though she was naked in front of the isekai community.


He dared to ask after a sigh, "Vanessa. Please tell me your answer".


Her lips moved without sound. It could've been that she needed to use the bathroom when her body squirmed. Logan knew she was just as weird as he was. But damn was she being extra at this moment. He questioned her a few times over, noticing the other three girls were also giggling.


"Dear God," he said, "It better not be anything stupid like a uni-".



Vanessa cleared her throat and stood straight upright to say, "A hamster".


Logan froze in thought, "A unicorn would've been better. At least they had flight and strength".


Before he could argue, Vanessa affirmed her decision with the monkey itself. Logan panicked for her not to choose such a worthless animal, asking why she would choose a hamster pact for battle? 

"They are so cccuute," said Vanessa hugging her clasped hands. 

As the beast approved her for the pact, Logan yelled in denial of a hamster being her spirit animal. 

"You must bring along at least three friends," friends said the beast. 


Vanessa looked over at her three girlfriends ready to run into hamster battles with her. She further taunted Logan if he was going to come to help his teammate obtain her spirit animal. After all, the monkey never said a limit to how many friends must come. 


The pain in Logan's ass grew to a migraine caused only by his ego to reject certain animals as being worthy. He stepped alongside Vanessa towards their trial area. 


"Wait, what about me?" asked Jaivva, "Do I get help". 



"No," said Logan, "Most pacts don't require help. I never got help from mine". 


Before anybody took a step, the monkey slapped its legs and clapped its hands. A tingling change was felt in everybody. 


"Oh, I completely forgot there were typically limitations. What are they?" asked Mimi. 


The monkey explained that Jaivva will no longer have access to magic for the trial period. Vanessa and her crew will have greatly reduced physical and magical ability. She turned towards her team to assure them that it was okay because they had each other. 



Jaivva gave a heavy sigh before walking off into the bamboo forest alone. Getting deep, she found a set of panda tracks that excited her into running through the bamboo.

Meanwhile, Vanessa led her team towards a mountain in a normal forest. Nothing appeared odd at first. At least until Logan began cursing. The mountain got closer at a rapid rate. It was much larger than it appeared from afar. The girls were debating on whether the mountain grew or something. 


"We shrunk," said Logan. 

They each took a look at the bamboo around them, noticing the increase in size. Vanessa began touching the bamboo out of excitement of being shrunken to the size of a hamster. Not a second went by that Logan didn't remind her of the dangers of being small. Except, they weren't small, but rather "smol" in the words of Vanessa. 


Her giggling ended when a skitterish cry rang their ears. Pleas came from the team to shut it up. However, Vanessa was concerned with protecting the scared creature. She looked around, spotting a baby hamster running for its life. 

Dani fired at the large fox chasing it, but her gun did nearly no damage. Her second shot struck the fox's head, gaining its attention. 





Is sad for not having a snack costume.

Meanwhile, Vanessa led her team towards a mountain. Nothing appeared odd at first. At least until Logan began cursing. The mountain got closer at a rapid rate. It was much larger than it appeared from afar. The girls were debating on whether the mountain grew or something. 

"We shrunk," said Logan. 

They each took a look at the bamboo around them, noticing the increase in size. Vanessa began touching the bamboo out of excitement of being shrunken to the size of a hamster. Not a second went by that Logan didn't remind her of the dangers of being small. Except, they weren't small, but rather "smol" in the words of Vanessa. 

Her giggling ended when a skitterish cry rang their ears. Pleas came from the team to shut it up. However, Vanessa was concerned with protecting the scared creature. She looked around, spotting a baby hamster running for its life. 

Dani fired at the large fox chasing it, but her gun did nearly no damage. Her second shot struck the fox's head, gaining its attention.

The Isekai Game is a vigorous sport where players battle in a variety of themes each month. From magic, alchemy, melee combat, gun slinging, themes, players are forced to fight each other and monsters alike. 



Vanessa finally has her shot at playing and making it to the pro leagues to live a life of wealth, fame, and adventure. But when her small guild of misfits is threatened by an in-game assassin and her "ghost" warns her of a traitor, she feels at the end of her ropes. 



Will her new Isekai family stay together and make it to the pro leagues. Or will this traitor succeed at tearing them apart along with the harsh nature of the game?

Notes:
I know my first 2 chapters are confusing. I literally give the first 65 chapters free. My story has a "Do now, explain later" rhythm to it. The characters you read on in the first two chapters get fleshed out in the next two chapters. 
So give it a chance. 


Also, this is not your typical trash Isekai. There is no boy getting hit by a truck. No heavy romance. No high dive online nonsense. No harem. No sex jokes thrown every chapter nor bouncing tits. No truck-kun. No getting trapped in the game. No matrix or any other corny stuff. My concept is not original. But I literally cannot think of 1 story out there that has it.

‘Mr. Campbell has a daughter…’, Kowahn thinks as he watches the taller man leave the department’s office while carrying Suzie close to his chest, whose arms tightly enlace around his neck. 

Mr. Campbell is a father. It is surprising to the indigenous, since Charlie looks young. And he also seems to be a great parent. Adopted or not, as Suzie claimed to be, Charlie Campbell being a father is surprising. 

‘Doesn’t that mean I can be a father too?’, Kowahn reflects. He has always wanted to adopt a kid. By what Suzie said, Mr. Campbell is a single father. ‘I can be a single father, then’, he nods to himself, ‘I don’t need to marry before that’. 

… 

In the end… he might have misunderstood Suzie. Her manipulative behavior isn’t because she’s evil intentioned, like he was thinking, but because the girl is afraid to trust others… To protect herself, she tries to control their actions through acting... 

Mr. Reis felt she was dangerous. He acted cold to protect himself. And the little girl noticed he has something against her. Mr. Reis now feels responsible. He wants to correct his mistake. 

‘… Right’, an idea comes to mind and both his eyebrows raise up. Sparkling black orbs turn to the glass door again. He runs there, then slides the door open. 

“Wait,” Lara grabs his forearm. The indigenous looks at her, “Good luck. But don’t raise his hopes,” she warns in a serious tone. 

Kowahn frowns, “… ‘Raise his hopes’?” 

“Mm-hmm. I know you won’t date him, no matter how much you might love him. So don’t raise his hopes about being a couple with you.” 

The friend’s frown grows deeper, “I don’t love him romantically. I think of him as a friend.” 

Lara sighs, “But he likes you.” 

That makes him freeze. Mr. Campbell… likes him? Since when? Isn’t it too soon? They only know each other for a little more than a week! 

Kowahn doesn’t believe in love at first sight. He believes in crush at first sight. To him, that is a feeling someone develops when they don’t profoundly know the person they’re crushing on, and instead, they idealize something about them in their our minds. 

After staring wide eyed at Lara for some seconds, the indigenous exhales the air he was holding. His expression turns back to stoic, “Thank you for telling me.” 

Lara nods in silence before finishing, “I forgot you’re slow. Sorry for misjudging you. And you’re welcome,” she smiles. 

Kowahn smiles back and leaves the office. 

In the corridor, Kowahn looks to the right. Nothing. Then left and spots the vivid dark red hair he just saw. He runs towards it, dodging from the passing company colleagues until he reaches the auburn. His hand touches Charlie’s free shoulder. The man turns around and looks at a tan-deep honey face with deep black orbs. The hand on his shoulder falls. 

Deviating his eyes, Mr. Reis lets a hand slid through his sleek straight black hair to organize the ruffled locks. He then says, “I’m an empathyologist…” 

Mr. Campbell stares at him with half-open lips, trying to understand what the other means. Then both his eyebrows raise up, “Oh,” Mr. Rays is offering to help Suzie, “Thank you,” he smiles and bites his lips at the same time. He feels happy the other is offering himself. 

Mr. Reis looks up again, and, for the first time, he feels strange when seeing Charlie’s smile. It’s so sweet. His chest feels fluffy for as long as he stares, but he soon cuts eye contact. 

‘His smile… remembered me of Charlie’, Mr. Reis breathes in, trying to calm down his strong pounding heart, ‘But this Charlie in front of me doesn’t have freckles’. 

Suzie, who was hiding her face, raises it. Isn’t this Mister Kowahn’s voice? She props herself to sit up by holding onto her dad’s shoulders and looks at the indigenous man. What is he doing here? She feels more curious than scared now. 

Mr. Campbell watches Mr. Reis look away from him with a tilt of head. Mr. Rays seems… he seems… darker. Out of a sudden. 

The indigenous feels Charlie’s stare and glances at him. 

This quick moment is enough for the taller to notice Mr. Reis is… blushing. Yes, he is blushing. His face is darker… in red! 

The indigenous frowns a little, but in a strange way nor Charlie nor Suzie can understand. Then walks around the duo and keeps stepping forward. 

Mr. Campbell, however, doesn’t know what Mr. Reis is embarrassed about. He can’t shrug since he is holding Suzie, but he raises both eyebrows once and snorts. He can’t understand the dark-eyed man at most times. He’s introverted to the point it confuses others about what are his intentions. 

The auburn walks after the indigenous, who waits by the elevator doors.

Charlie, carefully, lets his daughter onto the large white couch of the empathyology room. The girl looks up to her father’s face, blue eyes pleading for him to stay. He smiles and caresses her head. 

Mr. Reis is on the right further corner of the room. Facing a white cabinet, he opens its drawer and gets a recycled plastic cup. The object is cute. It’s transparent and there’s a drawing of a big hamster on it, smiling and waving at the spectator. He places the cup onto a pink tray full of hamster patterns that’s on the cabinet. 

Kowahn looks up at a squared intercom. He sighs. If he calls From Earth, a restaurant inside Bilards Company, the servers will take some minutes to arrive with what he asks. And he needs to offer emotional support to Suzie right now. 

He would like to give her some water, but that needs to be left for later. 

Mr. Reis turns around and walks towards the white armchair across the white couch Suzie’s sat on, both positioned in the middle of the room. Between both furnishings, there’s a small white table with a green heart-shaped tablecloth, and in its cloth, the drawing of a white hamster smiling, showing its central teeth: Two upper and two lower, both long, incisors. 

Charlie couldn’t help noticing those things. A hamster tablecloth. Hamster plush slippers. A tray with hamster patterns. A cup with the image of a hamster. 

Kowahn Reis is a hamster lover! 

After a while of travelling through theories in his mind, Mr. Campbell realizes the empathyologist is staring at him. Waiting. Charlie gives a quick headshake and looks inside his eyes, showing he’s paying attention now. 

The dark-eyed man smiles, then waves his hands. 

Charlie is confused at first, but soon he understands Mr. Rays means that he needs to get out of the room. He looks at his daughter, “Suzie, I can’t stay here with you, okay?” When he says that, the girl panics inside, “I’ll leave you with Mr. Reis. He’s a good person. And a good empathyologist too. You can trust him,” he caresses her cheek, reassuring the girl. 

Suzie frowns at the word trust. Then stares at her father with both a pleading and a scared gaze. It’s so scary to be alone with Mister Kowahn… Maybe she would feel at easy if he fell for her manipulations. Or if she could read his mind. 

“Suzie…” Kowahn smiles at her, eyes curving up, “I’m not dangerous. I’m someone I believe you can trust,” he’s trying to convince the child. If she doesn’t want to have a session with him, however, he won’t force her, “Please, give me the chance to show you that.” 

She seems to calm down at his putting. On some level, no matter how much she wants to deny it, he’s right. Suzie needs to let himself prove he’s someone she can trust. 

It was the same with Daddy. And if she really wants to have Kowahn as her father someday, then she needs to learn to trust him. 

After a few moments of silence, she nods once. 

Mr. Campbell smiles. He is genuinely contented that his daughter wants to have a session with someone as caring and attentive as Mr. Reis. 

“I’ll see you later, dear,” The dad gives small taps onto her shoulder, “Mr. Reis, could you please bring her to my department’s office when you’re both done?” 

“Mm-hmm,” Kowahn smiles. 

Mr. Campbell smiles back. He waves at both humans then walks away, feeling content. 

Mr. Reis approaches the armchair near him and sits onto it. He adjusts his posture and looks to the right side. The door is closing. Then a click sound. Mr. Campbell is out of the room. 

He can start. His sparkling black orbs turn to cornflower blue ones. 

Serious, he starts, “My work name is Shin.”

Mr Reis had been forcing many local citizens into a behavioral re-education program, one of them, Mr Campbell, who didn’t particularly hate foreigners until then. Until Mr Reis, that is!
Upon the premise of helping, Mr Reis set himself as the guinea pig to test all students’ progress, and to challenge himself to move past his own depression that had kept him inside his own room for years. 
Everyone had something to share in his challenge to face their own fears and limitations.
What did they share?
How did Mr Reis and Mr Campbell, and the others, learn about self development until the end?
An adventure to travel within oneself to core…
… but didn’t stop at that. Mr Reis had much more to show than that…He wanted changes.
Changes no one expected.

Their encounter, and the people they had to reach sparked in each other the push they needed.
