CHAPTER ZERO: Prologue

Hello, everyone. My name is Tokugawa Shinichi. I am a full-pureblood Japanese, male. Age eternally at 21 years old. Born in the year of 3545 in the Galactic Calendar. Okay, why am I talking to myself again? Ah, that's right. I'm telling my story, right...

Bel-chan, why do I have to do this? Really? Okay, fine.

Okay, first of all. I am a pureblood Japanese- which are very rare nowadays due to interracial mixing- but that doesn't mean that I grew up in Japan, okay? 

I grow up in USA and England since the age of 3 years old, interchangeable due to my parents' jobs. So, my view of what a traditional Japanese male should be or do was-still is- very different, even after watching the countless amount of anime and reading a bunch of different genres of manga. My view was still more western with a dash of Japanese here and there.

Secondly, I am gay. A 100% gay. I appreciate women but I cannot get it up for them nor do I want to hold them. My parents knew that I was gay long before I even notice it. My grandparents were slightly surprised when I told them but they supported me all the same. My two older brothers were both married but also divorced due to emotional stress so they understood me when I told them that I am gay- since they are too- for each other. As the youngest in the family, I am dotted on like there's no tomorrow. Good thing that along with all the dotting, there was also strict teaching so I didn't turn arrogant like some rich young master out there in the world. 

Thirdly, my lucks was... is out of the world. Like, seriously. There's a lot of things that I can change in my life, including my personality if I wanted to, but the only things that I cannot change were this far too great lucks of mine. 

As you can see, somehow I keep getting into very weird situations ever since I can remember. 

My mother and father said that I have a great deal of luck. And that, I believed. 

When I was only 5 years old, I picked up a lottery ticket on my way to my pre-school and won $100,000.00 Galactic Credits, enough to buy a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom house, and a small 4-person hover car. Since then on, every time that I did something, it would always result in some sort of extremely good thing for me and my family. When I was 7 years old, I have to resort to staying home 24/7 due to not wanting to effects other people too much.  So, I started playing virtual games with my cousins online, even then, it also affected online, too. 

I got item drops that are all over the top, all rare and legendary. When I roll or play any games for drops, I will always win with little to no efforts. When I guessed at a test, it will always be correct, even though I knew that it was correct too. 

Whenever my mother or father wanted to go somewhere safe and fun, they will always ask me first and have me chose the location for them. As a result, I did countless check on the internet, even to the point of hacking the -whatever- country's government files just to make sure that the location is truly safe. And I wasn't caught, even till now. What else can I say but that my luck was far too great, because I know my own skills enough to judge that there's no way I'm that good at hacking and leaving untraceable marks behind. I probably left a bunch, too.

Maa, let's just say that I have lucks so high that it makes the Lady Luck's cry in jealousy and astonishment. 

And that was why, countless years later, I am here. Still looking like I was when I was 21 years old, with the same name, same identity, and yet keep living in different worlds. It was all due to LUCK!

So, it wasn't a surprise that I am OP as hell in this world, too. 

Just... I am really tired of it. I want to struggle to survive! I want to know what it feels like to work hard for something I want! I want to know how it feels to be jealous of other people for their lucks! I don't want someone to like me or hate me for my lucks! I want to use my wit and fight for my own survival!

Many people were waiting with their necks stretched forward. They fixed their eyes on the ID name and the corresponding contestant on the screen.
That thrill and excitement was indescribable with words alone. Those who were waiting at the internet cafe all grabbed onto their colas tightly just see the real life versions of their big gods!
But the most important part was!
<Spade Z> was mostly likely among those contestants!

He shook his head as he continued, "Now that he's alert, it's impossible that he'll just crouch there like a target for me to hit. I won't be able to do it."
"Hehe, buddy, it looks like you finally admitted that my shot couldn't have been done by any other player." Grimmmz teased him.
"The h*ll! I didn't." Anthony argued.
In Guru G's live streaming channel, those two gay buddies were bickering.
At the same time, Liu Zilang who was on the bridge connecter was pressing on his abdomen. He looked miserable, an absolute contrast compared to when he was high-spirited earlier on.
He took a look at the bridge platform underneath him and felt that he would not die from that height if he were to fall down. Thus, he quickly shifted his body to fall down from where he was.
Since his opponent was able to hit him previously, should he stay up there any longer, he would likely suffer another shot… by which he would really be dead.
Upon seeing that, Da Sima who was crouching in the container quickly rushed over to revive him.
On the other hand, after it was confirmed that it was Guru G who shot Liu Zilang's head with a single bullet, the bullet screen of his live streaming channel became lively.
"F*ck! Guru G's score is probably not that low, right? Vic and Teacher Ma were actually put in the same match as Guru G?"
"It seems like Guru G's good gay buddy, Anthony, created an alternate account. GG!"

Besides that, he had a habit of pressing his lips whenever he aimed. This was why he was nicknamed by some spectators as "lip-pressing hack".
Previously, the headshot made from a thousand metres away was unquestionably a reflection of his top notch skills.
Once Da Sima revived Liu Zilang, he took a look at his bullet screen of his live streaming channel. He also realized that they had probably encountered a monster.
"Eh! That squad is probably one of the squads that crossed the ocean in a boat." Da Sima shook his head. "If I'd known, I would've looked for an opportunity to bomb their boat. I miscalculated!"

Right away, Da Sima came to a realization.
At that moment, Liu Zilang was seen squinting his eyes as he searched for his target through his magnification scope.
Without warning, his pupils shrunk and he crouched immediately!
"Woosh!"
The instant he crouched, a sniper bullet swept past the top of his head!
It turned out that a tiny shadow appeared in his vision just now. Though he could not see it very clearly, he saw that the figure was standing still.
Through Liu Zilang's sixth sense by which he was born with, he instantly sensed danger!
Evidently, him crouching, saved his life.

Formerly, he was able to knock out Liu Zilang with a headshot in one try. Thus, it indicated that the zeroing distance technique was suitable.
Subsequently, even though Liu Zilang moved a certain distance when he fell down from the bridge connector, as compared to a thousand metres, the deviation was insignificant.
In other words, there was an extremely high chance that a second shot would hit his head again.

Concurrently, Grimmmz's health declined drastically. His health was left in the red!
He had been hit!
Upon seeing what had happened, his good gay buddy, Anthony, stopped mocking him. He was so dumbfounded that his jaw dropped!
Earlier, Grimmmz was able to perform a headshot at a thousand meters away by zeroing the distance.
Other than his own skills, he had to attribute the feat to his AWM. That was because the zeroing distance range was from 100-1000 metres. It barely covered enough distance.
However, judging from the sound of the opponent's gunshot, it was obvious that his opponent was using a 98K.
In comparison, the 98K's linear range was only 300 meters. Even after zeroing the distance, its longest range was only 600 meters.
All in all, it meant that it was out of the question for Grimmmz's opponent to have made an effective headshot through range measurement and accurate zeroing distance, just as he did.

Morning comes as usual, and I jolt awake in bed, drenched in sweat. I look up at my dead air conditioner and curse out loud. Stupid air conditioner and its stupid air conditioning.
My ears register the sound of the familiar alarm tune coming from my phone, and I reach an arm out to shut it off. I rub my eyes with my knuckles and stretch out lazily, wanting to stay in bed but at the same time not wanting to stay in bed.
Directly across from my bed, the mounted Steve head on my wall stares into the depths of my soul. I stick my tongue out at it and swing my legs out of bed. I stagger into the view of my mirror. Hair sticking up every which way, dark circles under my eyes. Hideous. I pull a face at my reflection and reach out to switch the air conditioning back on.
WEE WOO WEE WOO. I flinch at the sound and whirl around, looking for the source. My phone is buzzing. I smack my forehead, remembering I changed the notification sound on Kara's request. I don't even know why I did it. It's just really hard to say no to Kara. WEE WOO WEE WOO. Another message.
I tap on the notification and look at whoever messaged me at this time. Not that it's very early – in fact, it's nearly twelve a.m. – but most people I have on my contacts list are aware of my fucked-up sleep schedule.
Of course, it's Kara.

Kara: bruh are you awake yet
Kara: ART IT'S 12 AM WAKE THE FRICK UP

I smile to myself. My fingers reflexively move to type out a response

You: jesus relax

I immediately get a reply from Kara.

Kara: holy mother of sainted goats you're actually awake I cant believe this
Kara: schedule for today?
You: ehhhh probably three
Kara: fine then
Kara: go brush your teeth your breath stinks
You: okay, mom

I take a second to laugh at my awesome comedy and move to the bathroom. I watch the water hitting the smooth curved surface of the basin for a while then snap out of my trance and grab my toothbrush. I'm forced to watch my reflection as I brush my teeth, like I am every day. Honestly, who thought it'd be a good idea to hang a mirror above the sink in bathrooms? I spit the foam out and rinse a few times. I look around at the shower. The shower head looks innocently back at me. I begin debating with myself.

Should I take a bath?
(Yeah, you should. You haven't taken one in three days.)
Rookie number. I've gone without a bath for two weeks at a stretch.
(Oh my god you stinky poo. Take a bath for god's sake.)
What if I don't want to?
(Why are you asking me? I'm you.)
Dammit. I'm taking one.

So, like every time I take a bath, my brain gives me a weird theory. These have been occurring for so long I named the theories Artegon's Amazing Assumptions. Assumptions really isn't the word for this, but I wanted it to be an alliteration and my slow brain was unable to think of anything else.
Anyway, today's question was:
Where the fuck do the people in The Hunger Games shit in the arena?
Thanks, brain. I was hoping for an epiphany or something, but now I'm gonna be puzzling over where people crap in The Hunger Games and whether it would even be hygienic.
Then my brain gives me the usual question:
Is Kara gay?
Most likely not, as I've told myself every single day this past week. I should probably just ask her, but then she'll think I'm weird. Sure, I've teased her by accusing her of being gay. Sure, our fans have teased us by accusing us of being gay. But that isn't the same as outright asking someone what their sexuality is. And if she really is gay – even though there's no way she is – why would she ever want to be my girlfriend?
I step out of my shower and lazily towel myself down. Changing into new clothes is one of the reasons I don't shower often. My mind wanders over to Kara again. It's difficult to do the cliché 'my mind recalls her smile, her beautiful hair' when I don't even know what she looks like.
Falling in love with a faceless person. Huh. How does that even happen? That's like loving someone solely by their voice. My case must be one in a million. I pull my wet hair up into a ponytail without bothering to dry it.
I pick up my phone again to check my notifications. My slightly wet fingertips create dashes of water on the screen, and I wipe them away, irritated. Kara's sent me some more messages.

Kara: hey you done brushing yet
Kara: art
Kara: artegon
Kara: bruh it's been thirty minutes
Kara: wtf you've been brushing your teeth for forty minutes now

I sigh at how dumb she is and type out a message. Wait, have I seriously been bathing for forty minutes? And the hot water didn't run out?

You: you absolute dunce have you heard of this thing called a bath

She isn't online, so I switch off my phone and the air conditioning in my room and go out to grab some breakfast. By 'go out to grab some breakfast' I mean going into my kitchen to get a bowl of cereal. Not just any cereal. Reese's Puffs. The food of the gods. There's nothing better than scrolling down r/memes and simultaneously eating Reese's Puffs in the morning. Have you tried doing that? Try doing that. 
Half an hour passes. One hours. I lie lazily on my bed, re-watching some Rick and Morty episodes. Two hours. I decide to give JoJo a try even though I don't really like anime. Somewhere around 2:30, I begin spamming Kara with messages.

I give up after a while and lie back down to continue watching JoJo. Kara messages me back exactly at three. Instead of messaging back, I call her on Discord.
'Hi. Can we just start this? Also, where the heck were you?' I say immediately after she picks up.
'Relax, what the hell? I was out with my mom.' She says.
'Okay, cool.'
And so, we begin.

Hello, my name is Toshiro Ita and I'm a university freshman. You could call me a loner since I don't have many in-real-life friends. I tend to spend most of my free time playing VRMMORPGs. Today is the launch of a new game I've been dying to play ever since the first trailer was released. What I didn't know was this was the day my life would change forever. 

     It was around 3 pm and my classes just ended for the semester. It was finally summer break and I had ordered my game online so it should be arriving today. I headed to the train station to wait for my train to arrive. Besides being a loner I'm also pretty shy in public. My train arrives on time and I make my way on board. Currently, I'm single and very inexperienced with relationships. I don't consider myself to be that handsome or anything and always get teased by both men and women. When this happens I get too shy which they all find funny. If I'm being honest though I'm not into girls at all. I'm gay but even so, I'm too scared to even try for a relationship. For the time being, I'm concentrating on my studies and my games for now. 

     It's been 30 minutes since I got on the train and I notice my stop was coming up. I gather my things, get up, and wait over by the door until the train stops. As I'm standing there I notice surrounding people pointing at me and laughing. I typically ignore it since it happens so often. All of a sudden I hear another male yelling at people to stop laughing and being disrespectful. Right then the train stops and the doors open up. I rush to get off and the male that helped me asks if I'm alright. I said I was but that I had to go. Can I at least get your name though? My name is Ryuu. This guy was very handsome and out of awkwardness, I gave him my in-game name instead of my real name. 

     I finally make it to my apartment and head inside. I see my package waiting for me on the counter. My mom must have stopped by and brought it inside for me before she left. I set my stuff down by the door and head to my room to get changed into something comfier. My typical loungewear when I'm home is usually just a tank top and basketball shorts. I don't have to worry about roommates or anything so if rather be comfortable all the time. 

     I grab the game, install it on my PC, put on the VR headset, and lay down on my bed. I start up the game and let the headset scan my body like all these games usually do when you first start them up. The headset lets you free your mind and move around with full-body control even while you're physically laying down. The new character option loads up and I begin to look at the character classes. I like to play these types of games with as much damage dealing as possible. 

     I was leaning toward the assassin class for the speed but I think I should give the berserker a try. The class uses a two-handed weapon which means you typically are slower but can deal more powerful hits. After choosing my character class I begin to customize how I'm going to look in-game. I decided to give myself short spiky black hair. The only other thing I altered was my body type to make me more muscular which is something I've always wanted in real life. After I changed what I wanted to with my appearance the name option came up. Out of habit, I input my name as Ryuu like normal with games. After I clicked finish I thought to myself I should have chosen a different name after telling that guy my in-game name. He didn't seem like a gamer though so I will probably be fine. The game loads up and I take a moment to get the hang of the movements and where the menus are located.

     After I got used to the mechanics I checked my inventory to see what starting gear there was. It looks like all I get is a basic two-handed sword and a breastplate. It's what your typical game would give you to start so I wasn't expecting much. I equipped the gear which made me look more manly which was nice. I go through the rest of my bag and I see a letter sitting in a miscellaneous slot. Since I had ordered the game online this must have been the free item I got with it but it wouldn't let me open it. After exiting the menu and going back into it I still couldn't open the letter so I decided to just leave it be for now. 

     When I was done I headed toward the first starting city to see what the game had to offer the players. Upon arriving I see what must have been 200,000 plus players standing around talking and sparring with each other. I look into the sky and see a timer counting down. I ask one of the nearby players what it was for. They told me it was the count down to the official launch of the game. I thought okay so at that time I had about 30 minutes more to wait so I decided to walk around some more. While looking around I saw that I had a friend request pending. This was typical with games like this. It was probably just some random player wanting to team up. I open my menu to get rid of it and as I'm about to delete it I noticed that the message attached to it said, Hi Ryuu. Curious now I click on the player's name to see who it was. 

     Out of shock and surprise, I recognized that the player looked just like the guy from earlier that day. So before I accepted his request I messaged him asking who he was. He quickly replied that it was the guy from the train that saved me from embarrassment. He saw my character name and had to see if it was me from earlier at the train station or somebody else. I replied saying I didn't know he was a gamer by his looks. He just laughed. I accepted his friendship request and we decided to team up and play through the game together. At this time the timer has ended and I'm looking around and all the players are just stunned in horror. I thought what the fuck just happened? I see I had another notification but this time it was the letter in my inventory. I click on it and this time I was able to open and read it. All it said was "LET THE DEATH GAME BEGIN!"

I lived a somewhat normal and boring life as a gay college gamer. By her memory, the author often indulged himself in Mahjong games. He did not even need that side income. His tenants kept him well-fed.
If he was one day forced to pursue his career in writing, he might produce something better.
Zhao Youyue always believed that iconic novels could only be written by two types of authors. One would be like Han Leng -- highly gifted in writing talents and keen on pursuing the beauty of words. The other would be Su Li, disciplined and dedicated, always striving for self-improvement. Every post she made was fresh and trendy. She did not need the improvement, but she went for it anyway. As long as her passion remains, so would her popularity and along with it, her income.
WIth how competitive novels were, the only way one could keep oneself irreplaceable was to have a fresh and unique character in our masterpieces. When you define the genre of your novel, you would be one of a kind.
However, the reality was never ideal. No masterpiece would ever be one of its kind. Billions of people passing through the passage of time -- a repetition of ideas was bound to happen somewhere. To remain relevant, one had to follow the trend.
Zhao Youyue found a novel worthy for the sacrifice of her character card. It was titled "Endless Apocalypse," written by one whose fans called him, Master PhD[1].
PhD was an enigma. Even his gender was unknown, but they largely assumed him to be male, based on his style of writing. His story was always firm and logical, while the chemistry between his paired couples always wandered towards eternal friendship, rather than romance. Master PhD often exaggerated on brotherhood and the bonds between men. Reading his work was more like a gay romance than the story between friends.
This was the age of Yaoi[2]. He was not deliberately promoting Boy Love, but fujoshis[3] often gave his work praise. Master PhD was just so good at portraying how men strengthen each other with trust and encouragement. His stories were so great, so manly.
Readers assumed that only a man could write such a great novel. The author might even be a muscular gym junkie.
Two elements determined his success. One was the exclusivity of the platform he used. Yes, he was an Ancient High God author, but he had taken a risk when he left Qidian, a.k.a. China Literature Limited before that platform monopolized that sector. He had joined an equally solid competitor, just because they offered him far better pay than Qidian's.
As time passed, that platform changed its course and no longer could afford to keep an Ancient High God author such as Master PhD. The other element was his genre of choice. It was neither mainstream, nor popular. In the end, both parties decided to mutually end their contract.
Master PhD then returned to Qidian and published his novel, "Endless Apocalypse." Having left Qidian for so many years, his image needed some rebuilding.
As a veteran author, Master PhD had braved through many storms and lived through them. Perhaps it was his attitude that kept him going. He was highly passionate when it came to writing -- nothing would shake his faith. His efficiency was unwavering.
Authors like Master PhD could usually be trusted when it came to producing remarkable stories. His novels all started with a few great opening chapters. Eventually, he would twist his stories into unacceptable endings that left readers greatly disappointed. Some even called him the "the crazed devil that burns its tail"...
It was not that he was not a terrific writer. It was his readers who were misled into expecting more from such promising opening chapters. They wanted better endings. They had set their expectations through the roof. How could they still blame the author?
Master PhD was actively involved in the fight against the apps that promoted piracy like Baidu Tieba. [4] He mocked readers who supported piracy, earning their ire in return. It was an era where blatant piracy was rampant. Readers of pirated works firmly believed that they were supporting the author's hard work…

Xiao Nian appeared to have turned up at perfect timing. When he saw Pei Zhen, the latter's eyes were bloodshot, and there were signs of ambiguous activities showing on the delicate skin around his collarbone.
At once, Xiao Nian's expression turned into one of amusement. When Fu Sichen was around, he didn't dare to say much, but with just him and the sluggish Pei Zhen, he couldn't help but make comments.
"Daddy, it seems your relationship with your boyfriend has stabilized."
"Daddy, it's great to drive, but don't speed."
"Daddy, why are you falling asleep again? Have you been kept awake by the vixen Fu Sichen and his pestering?"
Xiao Nian, whose head contained all sorts of dirty thoughts, became increasingly mischievous. Pei Zhen couldn't bring himself to say that he ended up being the bottom party. In the end, he just feigned indifference and told Xiao Nian to mind his own business.
"This is my business, of course." Xiao Nian was a little peeved at being dismissed just like that. "In the future, if you really make a great comeback, all your rich women fans would most certainly turn into couple fans. I need to plan ahead where your fans are concerned. And without understanding the intricacies between you and your boyfriend, I can't really do any meaningful marketing."
Pei Zhen let out a big yawn.
Surely he couldn't complain to Xiao Nian about the fact that the interactions, between his boyfriend and himself, were a daily routine of the 'you may float along as you wish, but I'd still dote on you' kind.
Besides, it was himself who did the floating!
Pei Zhen still lacked sleep.
When he arrived at the filming location and was getting out of the car, he yawned a few times. Once he was out of the car, his peach blossom eyes were glistening, and the corners of his eyes were red.
Pei Zhen had fair skin.
The result of good genes.
The Condor Heroes were out at the archaeological sites every day, and they didn't seem to tan at all.
He had red eyes, fair skin, and was on a diet to lose weight for filming. Therefore when he turned up at the filming location, he was greeted by looks of sympathy.
"Did you read yesterday's news?"
"Rubbish, it's caused such a big commotion that everyone has read it."
"Oh dear, that's so pitiful. I've never seen Pei Pei scramble and flee …"
