A voice greeted him when Cheng Anrong entered the photography studio that was placed at the department's first floor.

"That was fast. How did it go?"

"It went okay," Cheng Anrong walked leisurely to where his bag was. "She accepted it."

There are four people in the dim room. Two guys busied themshelves with the props while the man who asked Cheng Anrong had his face concentrated on the computer.

"Wait. What do you mean by 'she accepted it'?" The man called Shijin paused what he was doing and turned to his friend. "Where's the rest of the box now?"

Cheng Anrong's oblivious face said it all.

Shijin cursed. "I lend you my sister's stuff thinking you might need a little of it. How can you give a whole box away like that? Yujin will kill me! She kept saying that stuff is from a premium brand and costed her a pretty penny."

"I will buy you a new one. You shouldn't mess with your sister's things in the first place."

"You better." Shijin calmed down a little and returned to his computer while mumbling, "It's her fault for leaving most of her things around. I didn't mean to mess, just borrow it for a moment."

Cheng Anrong rolled his eyes.

The studio was blissfully silent after that. Only an occasional sound from keyboard typing could be heard in the background.

Cheng Anrong had joined his two other friends, Lu Qiu and Xiao Jun, who were also part of the team to check and test the equipments.

Before long, a peaceful feeling engulfed the room. Although no one spoke, but the atmosphere was nothing else but comfortable for them to do their own works.

The serenity lasted for fifteen minutes before it was broken by Shijin's loud exclaim.

"What is it?" Xiao Jun asked.

Shijin still swore, but his expression looked elated. His eyes shone with disbelief at whatever was on the screen. "We did it! We did it!"

The other three quickly gathered behind Shijin. They saw a fancy-looking layout inside an open email and tried to read the message's content.

A big familiar logo caught their attention first.

As technologies continued to grow, small media companies started appearing, bringing fresh ideas and a more innovative approach to grab the heart of the audiens. Something that the old company, like Fortune, somehow lacked.

After nineteen years of triumph and fame, Fortune Broadcasting Corporation finally succumbed to the fierce competition in the industry.

On the brink of bankruptcy, Fortune was sold to a new owner. This new owner not only renamed the company, but also managed to establish a new image that slowly and steadily strengthened the company's position among national populace.

Nowadays, Fortune Broadcasting Corporation, under the new name 'Golden Oracle,' had once again become a prominent media company that remained on the spotlight for the last few years due to its rising development.

The corporation had more than one successful subsidiaries such as Oracle Star Entertainment, Oracle Creative Production, and Oracle International.

Every year, Golden Oracle celebrated its anniversary in a grand manner. The big event was always held in Capital City J where the company's headquarter was located.

This year, Golden Oracle announced that they planned to move their annual celebration to City S, the second-largest city after Capital City J, where the company recently built a new broadcasting station.

Several months ago, the company posted a hiring annoucement to fill temporary position for many divisions involved in the party preparation.

Hawkeye Visual, the name Chen Anrong and Shijin came up with for their team, sent an application for the documentation division and hadn't received any response ever since.
During the first two weeks, the team excitedly waited for a reply. None came.

The team was very confident with the portfolio they sent because it included a set of photos that made Cheng Anrong won an international award in Country R.

No one in the team bragged about it, but each one had high hope that their team could at least pass the preliminary stage, which is document selections.

For the rest of the month, the awaited news whether the team pass or fail still didn't come. Their anticipation dimmed a bit.

By the second month with no word or feedback from Golden Oracle, doubt and realization began to set in.

Although the portfolio the team sent in was stellar, but compared  to other bigger and better-connected studios with lot of experiences in professional works... Hawkeye Visual remained far in comparison.

The team's expectation was crushed a little. However, the members didn't dwell in their disappointment for long. By the next week, they already moved on to focus on another project.

The third, fourth month passed just like that.

Until today.

In less than a month before Golden Oracle's anniversary event, an email suddenly arrived. 
Shijin read the message aloud. "Congratulations, Hawkeye Visual. Your team is officially hired as part of the documentation division for the annual party of Golden Oracle Corporation. For further briefing and arrangements please contact our..."

"Is it real? Have you checked the email address? Lately there are scams that involve this kind of method and demand money from the receiver," the-ever-rational Lu Qiu commented, despite the excitement he couldn't keep from showing in his voice.

"I assure you, this email is at least 99.99% legit. I have re-read it for five times and compared the address nine times from the official websites. Unless they accidentally typed our email address as the recipient, it's as real as it can be," Shijin confirmed.

Xiao Jun added enthusiastically, "The content specifically mentioned our studio's name several times. The chance it was a mistake is extremely slim."

"As far as I know, there is no other big studio with the same name as us," Cheng Anrong agreed.

"So..." Shijin deliberately drew out his words. An eager expression in his face. "Can we start celebrating now?"

There are eight clubs existed under the Department of Visual Arts.

Animation, illustration, typography, sculpture, fashion, crafts, photography, and videography.

Each club had its own studio at the department's four stories building.

Students were encouraged to join at least one club during their first year. It's not included as requirement to pass a specific course, but the club could help students to envision what they want to focus on doing in the future because visual arts had so many fields to choose from.

The clueless would benefit a lot by this system  while the experts could share their knowledge and expand their influence to build a solid network.

Yuelin used to be a member of (surprise, surprise) animation club. She had confided her interest in improving her 2D animating skill, according to what Aoning informed her as they toured each club's studio.

Almost all club's studios were actually locked.

The fall semester hadn't started yet, so few people could be found loitering around the club's studio. Most of them juniors.

The department did have a three-room gallery at the third floor where Yuelin and Aoning were treated to a sight of possibly all kind of art products from the clubs under their department.

"This short clip looks so life-like. I can't believe they were originally drawn by people's hand." Yuelin was impressed after she watched a three minutes animation video from one of the display screens.

Aoning chuckled. "Do you want to take the animation class as planned?"

Yuelin suddenly shuddered. "No please. I told you my skills right now aren't enough to even draw a single... sketch. My parents are already aware. If after this one semester I couldn't find my footing in this department, they... they won't object to me withdrawing from the rest of the course and changed to a different major."

Aoning stilled at her footstep. "You are kidding."

Yuelin shook her head. "Unfortunately, no."

For the first time, Aoning struggled to say what was on her mind. "That.. that would mean repeating another three years in university."

"Yes."

"Oh, Yue yue... You can't possibly."

"It might come to it."

"Don't say that!" Aoning protested. "There are more or less six months ahead of us. We can try to figure out something. We WILL figure out something."

"I won't easily give up, if that's what you are worried about." Yuelin gave her friend a resolute gaze. "I know the significance of starting university again from scratch. How much effort Yue-, I mean, how much effort I have to put in the previous years in this department."

Silence.

"Not to mention how costly it will take." Although Yingjie-gege convinced her there would be no problem. "This is the subject my old self had studied before. A subject the old me used to love. I'm sure if I tried hard enough, I can rekindle those passions that might have lost along with my memories."

Being surrounded by these wonderful display of arts, Yuelin somehow could relate how the original Yuelin chose this visual arts as her major out of various, other interesting subjects out there.

Yuelin reached for one of her friend's arms and squeezed lightly. "En. Let's go."

I awoke to the sound of singing birds. The beautiful trees stood majestically outside my window, the green leaves rustling in the soft morning breeze.

Who am I kidding.

I woke up to my piercing alarm. Outside, the trees looked nothing but sad and the leaves didn't move an inch since there was no wind whatsoever. I forced myself out of bed and into the bathroom. After I washed myself up, I grabbed a hoodie and a random pair of sweatpants to go with it. I grabbed a banana for breakfast and slumped onto the couch, switching the TV on. It went straight to the last channel that was on, KBS World. The re-run of last fortnight's Music Bank was playing and unfortunately, BTS was on. The camera was focused on their main vocalist and I  choked on my banana. I quickly switched the TV off and gulped down a glass of water.

Honestly, I never want to see his face again, not in real life, not on screen. But because of me and my brother's occupations, we're constantly watching music videos and performances. We try to avoid BTS because of 'him', but BTS, being one of the biggest kpop groups around, are constantly on these music programmes. Sadly.

Before things get super confusing, though I'm pretty sure it already is, let me introduce myself.

My name is Ahn Jin Ae, a 22-year-old from Busan. My parents passed away a little over a decade ago in a car crash when I was eight. Because of that, I grew up with my elder brother and my cousin/legal guardian, Ahn Yuseob. My cousin lived in Seoul, so my brother and I had to move to Seoul to stay with him. 

I worked under a famous visual artist in South Korea ever since I was a high school student, and thanks to that, I've built a name in the industry. Some people say I'm probably as good as my mentor, but I don't see it that way. I'll always look up to him. Unfortunately, my mentor retired last year, letting me take over his business. But because I never attended any schools that offer visual arts courses, some other people tend to look down on me.

Basically, nobody wants to work with me so I'm broke.

My brother, Ahn Jae-suk, works under SM Entertainment as a music producer, so he always tries his best to convince the idols to at least consider working with me. It works most of the time, since I do a variety of styles and themes that suit almost any taste, but I don't really like relying completely on my him, so I try my best to branch out to other companies and celebrities.

I stared at the ceiling and started piecing a music video for Jae-suk's latest piece that he was working on. It was a piece for EXO's next album, so I tried thinking of a concept that would contrast all their previous ones. As I was daydreaming and thinking of a way to start the music video, my phone rang. I looked at the caller ID, but it was a number I didn't recognise. I picked up the phone.

"Hello?"

"Hello. Is this Miss Ahn Jin Ae of Ethereal Visuals?" An unfamiliar voice greeted me on the other end of the phone. I sat upright and checked the caller ID again to see if I knew the number. Still no.

"Yes, that's me. And you are?" I asked. 

"My name is Kwon Do Hyeong, from BigHit Entertainment," the voice replied.

"Ah, Slow Rabbit, was it?" I was shocked that a music producer from BigHit would be calling me, but I kept it cool. "How can I help you?"

"Well, you see, our company is planning a solo debut for one of our idols, and after careful consideration, we have come to the conclusion that you are our best option. Your style and efficiency has been praised in the industry, so I am calling to see if you are willing to work with us for the new album," Slow Rabbit explained. I may have hesitated a bit too long, because he felt the need to continue. "We'll pay you handsomely. You'll get commission too."

I shook my head even though he couldn't see me. "It's not about money. It's more about..." I thought about how to put it in a proper sentence. "Personal issues. I can't head over to the BigHit company building everyday to work on the album." I resisted the urge to add "Because I'm trying to avoid a certain someone there."

Slow Rabbit chuckled. "If that's the problem here, then you don't have to worry. You just have to visit the building to officially sign the papers. Every other meeting can be arranged at your studio." I thought about this before a made up my mind.

"Very well. When should I head over?"

"Are you free today at two?" he asked. I ran through my mental schedule that screamed 'EAT, SLEEP, DAYDREAM, REPEAT'. "Yes, I am."

"We'll see you at two then."

I ended the phone call and let out a squeal. Finally, a project!

Even though 'he' works under BigHit, I really couldn't see what could go wrong. I don't have to meet up with the idol, his manager or any of his producers at the company building so the chances of running into him was as low as it gets. I only have to visit the building once to sign the papers  an then I can arrange for us to meet at my studio.

Now let's about who 'he' is.

'He' refers to my ex-boyfriend, international celebrity and worldwide influencer, Jeon Jungkook.

Jungkook is a member of the South Korean kpop group 방탄소년단, or BTS for short. We started dating a few months before his debut, and broke up three years later. Why, you ask?

Because he cheated.

I spent days and nights supporting him, showing up at all his concerts and fanmeets, making sure he ate well, making sure he slept well. Even when I was depressed and on pills, I still cared for him.

But he still cheated on me.

When I found out he cheated, I was mad, disappointed, yes. But I had no intention on breaking up with him. I thought that we would be able to resolve it over time and things would go back to the way it was in the past.

But that exact day, the exact night I found out he was disloyal, he broke up with me. Just by saying the three words. The words "Let's break up". Just baying saying that, he threw away everything we had, everything we'd grown over the years.

The day after we broke up, BigHit and YG confirmed Jungkook and Lisa's dating rumours and everything was perfect for them. Two extremely famous idols from two big companies hopelessly in love. But while they acted all lovey dovey, I cried. I cried and cried, and even tried committing suicide. Jae-suk saved me and I remember very clearly how he cried that night. My wonderful brother who was the strongest and bravest man I'd ever known, kneeled on the hospital floor and bawled his eyes out, begging me not to leave him. Jae-suk gave me a will to live, and my mentor confirmed that will. I enjoyed visual arts more than anything in the world. I found joy and pleasure in visual arts, so I made it a career.

I've received requests from YG to work on Blackpink's album before, but I turned them down. Heck, I'm pretty sure the members didn't want to work with me in the first place.

I looked at the clock on the wall. It was eleven in the morning and I didn't really have much to do, so I grabbed my sketch book and started sketching stuff. I did so until it was around 1:45 p.m. , then headed upstairs to change into something more work appropriate. I put on a beige sweater and light washed jeans, paired with some brown lace-up boots. I grabbed my laptop and made my way to BigHit.

The building was only a five minute drive away from where I lived, so I reached there with a couple minutes to spare. I went up to the reception and gave my name.

"Miss Ahn, it is a pleasure to meet you. Now, if you'll come this way." The receptionist kindly guided me to a meeting room and opened the door. "Mr. Kwon and Mr. Kim will be with you shortly," she said with a smile. I returned the smile and took a seat at the table. The room was white with a whiteboard at the front and blinders over the windows. A plant stood in each corner. I took out my laptop and started filing through potential ideas that the idol I was supposed to be working with might like. I was scrolling through my latest work when I heard the door open. I got up and turned around. Slow Rabbit and another man that I recognised too well. Kim Sejin, BTS's main manager. I bowed and greeted them, thinking maybe Mr. Kim was now working with another idol. They sat opposite me and smiled warmly. "Our idol will be here in a minute. Here's the concept we are interested in for the album." Slow Rabbit handed me a file and I flipped through. My eyes stopped on one page. The page with the name of the idol I was to be working with.

At that moment, the door clicked open. "I'm sorry I'm late." I stood up abruptly and turned around to look at the man whom which I loved once upon a time. Sure enough, standing in a white turtleneck and black jeans, was the main vocalist of the worlds most famous kpop group, Jeon Jungkook.

Three years. That's all it takes for feelings to disappear. For love. But also for hate.

With my laptop, Claire's tablet and Kyla's smartphone on hand, we took notes and dissected one particular quote from Machiavelli. 

"It is better to be feared than loved, if you cannot be both."

In between, Claire sipped some more coffee and chewed on a few slices of doughnuts. Meanwhile, Kyla brought out some mints and put it on her mouth.

What the professor gave to us was a group project about a quote from Niccolò Machiavelli. We were free to choose any one of his quotes and explain it thoroughly on a sheet of paper.

"What do you think?" Claire inquired Kyla and myself about the quotation. 

"Personally, what Machiavelli said was typical of a dictator ruling with an iron fist," Kyla commented. "Look at Ferdinand Marcos. He possesses many friends, but because of Martial Law, he became an extremely intimidating ruler."

"Same with the likes of Hitler and Lenin," I replied. "Machiavelli's passage applies to the totalitarian rule of a few countries. Those whose power is too imposing and unyielding at the same time."

"In my opinion, this quote is also applicable to corporations and families too," Claire joined in. "If you have a father who seems to care about your well-being but shows some tough love as well, then that's a Machiavellian way of putting it in context."

All three of us typed our respective explanations on my laptop. Then Kyla brought out her USB stick and saved the file on it.

"I'll be printing out the sheet for our group," Kyla notified us. "But since the deadline is not until Wednesday we could chat and continue delivering our contributions online. Is that all right with you?"

"No problem with us," Claire replied affirmatively. 

We continued talking over our project when a sudden vibration shook my pocket. That turned out to be my smartphone ringing. 

"Girls, I'm sorry but my class comes in a few minutes," my voice trembled in desperation. "We'll talk later."

I hurriedly ran out of the cafeteria without even saying goodbye to Claire and Kyla. My heart suddenly beat fast upon racing to the classroom.

By the time I arrived, my body had been sweating and weary. Making matters worse was the unusually hot weather that we experienced that day.

I sat inside the classroom exhausted, my heart rate rapidly increasing by the minute. As Michelle entered the room, she looked at me with a worried expression on her face.

"Christine, you look tired," Michelle remarked thoughtfully upon sitting down beside me. "What's the matter?"

"It's nothing," I answered wearily, my voice slurry with all the rapid breathing. 

"Christine, would you like some water?" Michelle offered me her jug. "You must be running out of breath."

I received Michelle's jug and gobbled some of the water. Upon wiping my mouth, I gradually breathed deeply to relax.

Michelle then used her towel and wiped the sweat off my face. 

"Christine, are you okay?" she asked me.

"I'm fine now," my deep voice replying to Michelle. "I had to run straight to class just to avoid getting late."

"Actually it's only 11:15 on the clock," Michelle showed me her watch. "You're five minutes early, but that's enough."

While waiting for photography class to start, I messaged Kyla and apologized for not immediately saying goodbye to her and Claire earlier. She replied with, "It's okay. We understand your situation", before closing with a pair of smiling faces with halo emoji.

"Any assignments?" I asked Michelle upon staring at her.

"You should be lucky that there were no projects this week," Michelle replied. "But I do possess some notes from the previous lectures. You might require them."

"I indeed do," my direct response to Michelle's generous offer. "Good thing there were no assignments due for this class so time is absolutely on my side."

Just then, Taylor and Erin arrived, and sat alongside Michelle and myself. Shortly after, the professor entered the classroom as well.

"Good morning students," the professor greeted us. 

"Good morning madam," the whole class typically responded in unison. 

"Today we're not having photography class in this classroom," the professor announced. "Instead we are moving to the studio for a little orientation on modeling photography."

"Did you hear that?" Michelle exclaimed to us. "We're going to the studio."

"Great," Taylor answered back. "I always dreamed to be a model."

"So do I," Erin joined in. 

The entire class walked downstairs and into the studio. It was situated on the second floor and was constructed next to the equipment and audio-visual room.

Upon entering the studio, the professor again assigned us into nine groups of four. This time, however, Michelle, Taylor, Erin and I found ourselves in different groups.

As Michelle and I went our separate ways for the project, she issued me one final reminder.

"Christine, remember to coexist with our other classmates," Michelle said to me. "Try being respectful and friendly with them all the time."

With one final nod of approval, I went to my assigned group while Michelle walked towards hers. The group I joined in consisted of three charming ladies and myself.

Surprisingly, they accepted me with open arms. It was a surreal experience because for much of my life, Michelle and myself would constantly be in the same group.

But then I recalled first grade when my teacher forced me to join a group with one of the bullies. However, the situation now is different as we were more mature and refined with our movements.

"Welcome to the group," the three students enthusiastically greeted me.

Now I must deal these strangers with renewed determination and positivity. God please help me.

Separuh hari pun telah kami habiskan pada FJU. Tidak terasa hari telah beranjak menjadi siang, sedangkan yang kami lakukan sejak pagi hari hanyalah memutari eventnya saja serta dikagetkan oleh kehadiran Lena yang rupanya ikut ber-cosplay dalam event. 

Dalam pertama kalinya dalam hidupku, aku pergi ke acara budaya selain dengan teman lelaki. Kali ini, diriku pergi bersama Eri yang ternyata ini kali pertamanya pergi ke acara budaya. Dia duduk di sebelahku, memakai sebuah yukata merah yang dipinjamkan oleh Lena. Matanya terpaku pada atas panggung menyaksikan penampilan dari para kontestan lomba saat kami tengah duduk di tangga bangunan utama, beristirahat dari gelombang panas matahari yang tepat berada di atas kepala. 

Kami meluangkan waktu untuk menonton performance demi performance dari setiap kontestan lomba, seiring berjalannya waktu. Sampai ia memutuskan ingin kembali menjelajahi event, beranjak dari tempat duduknya yang nyaman. Menyanggupi permintaannya, aku berjalan di samping Eri menjadi penunjuk jalannya. Berjalan melihat sekeliling, tak sadar, aku tak melihat keberadaan Eri di sampingku. 

"Eri ?" 

Aku menoleh ke belakang, menjumpainya yang tengah berdiri terdiam di depan stand. Matanya terpikat oleh benda kecil yang terdapat di stand tersebut, cahaya berkilauan terlihat dari mata hitamnya. Eri.. tertarik oleh benda kecil itu, kah. 

"Apa kamu pengin ?" kumulai bertanya. 

"Um. Terlihat... lucu menurutku." 

Dia benar-benar menyukainya. Apa yang tengah ia amati adalah gantungan hp, bukanlah gantungan biasa, tapi gantungan maskot dari acara itu sendiri. Maskotnya, pria berambut putih pendek mengenakan pakaian futuristik sambil memegang pistol. Kalau tak salah, nama maskot laki-laki itu bernama Koe, dia salah satu dari maskot FJU. 

"Jika pengin, aku bisa membelikannya." 

"Eh. Tapi—" 

Hitung-hitung ini untuk takoyaki serta senyum yang ia berikan padaku sebelumnya. Melangkahkan kaki pada stand, kini aku berbicara dengan staf wanita yang berjaga di sana. 

"Permisi mbak. Mau tanya, kalau gantungan hp itu berapaan ya ?" 

"Yang ini mas ?" ucapnya sembari memegang gantungan kunci yang ditertariki Eri. 

"Ya itu." 

"Sayangnya ini gak dijual mas." 

"Gak dijual ?" 

"Ya, tapi mas bisa dapetin dengan cara menang gamenya." 

Kebingungan mendengar perkataannya tadi, mbak tersebut mulai menjelaskan padaku. Ternyata stand yang tengah kami kunjungi adalah stand games, sehingga seluruh merchandise yang berada di stand tersebut tak bisa dibeli, namun bisa didapatkan bila memenangkan games yang ada di sana. Nah, gantungan hp tadi pun salah satu hadiahnya. 

"Apa masnya mau coba main ?" 

Karena sudah berada disini, tidak ada kata mundur. Ini semua demi Eri juga. 

Aku memberikan selembar uang 10 ribu kepada si mbak, sembari ia memberikanku tiga buah bola berwarna kuning. Games yang kumainkan adalah menjatuhkan kaleng yang tersusun tinggi dengan menggunakan ketiga bola di tanganku. Bila semua kaleng dapat dijatuhkan, aku bisa mendapatkan gantungan hpnya, tapi kalau gagal... hanya dapat stiker saja. 

"Kamu bisa mainnya, Theo ?" Eri berdiri di sampingku, saat aku tengah menyiapkan satu bola untuk kulempar. 

"Cih cih, tentu saja aku bisa. Karena sering main game, kujamin kemampuan melemparku juga bagus." 

Eri tengah melihatku sekarang, aku tidak bisa mengecewakannya. Walau ya, palingan aku bisa menjatuhkan semuanya hanya dengan satu bola. Jaraknya tidak begitu jauh, susunan kalengnya pun terlihat tidak kuat, para staf mungkin masih awam menyusunnya. 

Memegang bola dengan tangan kanan, kugenggam bola tersebut dengan eratnya. Mataku mulai terfokus pada bagian tengah kaleng, jika aku bisa mengenai tengahnya, semuanya bisa runtuh dalam sekali lempar ! 

"HYAT !" 

SWUSH 

Bola kuning itu melesat sangat cepat dan tepat mengenai kaleng yang berada di tengah. Tetapi... kaleng-kaleng lainnya yang berada di sekitar tak bergeming, hanya satu kaleng saja yang dapat kujatuhkan pada lemparan pertama. 

"Lemparan bagus, Theo." 

"Ma-Makasih." 

Lo-Loh kok... kenapa kaleng-kalengnya gak jatuh, apa perkiraanku salah ? 

Memegang bola keduaku, kini aku kembali mempersiapkan diri untuk melemparnya kembali. 

"HAAA !" 

SWUNG 

Lemparan kedua melesat cepat menuju kaleng yang berada di sebelah kanan. Tapi karena lemparanku terlalu keras bolanya hanya menyenggol satu kaleng, tak membuatnya jatuh. 

Diriku terperanga melihatnya, dari 2 percobaan aku hanya dapat menjatuhkan satu kaleng ?! Bola terakhir berada di tanganku... sementara keringat dingin mulai mengucur. Setelah aku berlagak sombong kepada Eri, bermaksud menunjukkan sisi kerennya padaku, justru aku cuma bisa njatuhin satu kaleng. 

"Boleh aku mencobanya Theo ?" 

"Kamu ingin mencobanya ?" 

"Kalau boleh." 

Tak ada harapan lagi bagiku, kuberikan bola terakhir pada Eri. Ia memegangnya, sembari terdiam seperti tengah memikirkan sesuatu. Karena ini percobaan terakhir, mungkin ia ingin melakukannya dengan hati-hati dan penuh perhitungan. 

Lantas, ia melemparkan bola terakhir begitu pelannya mengarah pada kaleng yang berada di pojok kanan bawah. Kaleng tersebut terjatuh karena lemparannya tapi... susunan kaleng tak bergerak sama sekali, masih terdiam seperti sedia kala. 

"Ya... percobaan pertama memanglah tidak selalu bagus bukan." Ucapku untuk menyemangati Eri serta diriku sendiri yang gagal menjatuhkan semua kaleng. 

"Tidak, lihatlah." 

Eri menyangkal perkataanku, ia tetap melihat pada piramida kaleng yang berada jauh di depan. Perlahan, kaleng-kaleng mulai berjatuhan layaknya domino dimulai dari atas hingga bawah. Aku terperanga melihat apa yang barusan terjadi, begitu juga dengan mbak staf yang tak percaya melihatnya. Eri... menjatuhkan semua kalengnya. 

"Si-Silahkan hadiahnya. Dua gantungan maskot untuk mas dan mbaknya yang couple." 

"Co-Couple ?! Kita ga—" 

BUK 

Seketika aku merasakan rasa sakit pada perut kananku sehingga tak menyelesaikan kata-kata tersebut. Aku sama sekali tidak tahu kenapa perutku bisa sakit, tapi... mbaknya menganggap kami sebagai couple ?! 

"Terimakasih banyak." 

Eri menerima gantungan hp tersebut sembari kami mulai berjalan kembali menuju ke tempat lain. Sewaktu kami berjalan, mengulurkan tangannya padaku, Eri memberikan gantungan hp kepadaku. Ia memberikan maskot ceweknya, yaitu gadis berambut hitam sebahu kepadaku, dia adalah pasangan dari si Koe yaitu Rika. 

"Sekarang kita punya gantungan dari maskot yang sama." Katanya sambil menunjukkan padaku gantungan Koe yang telah terpasang pada smartphonenya. 

"Ya-Ya..." ucapku meringis saat perutku masih terasa sakit. 

Ngomong-ngomong semenjak tadi kami berkeliling selalu berada di area taman, kami sama sekali belum menjelajahi bangunan utama. Kalau tidak salah, di lantai kedua pun terdapat sesuatu, dilihat dari beberapa orang yang tengah berdiri di sekitaran pagar besi. 

"Eri, mau coba ke lantai dua ?" 

"Di atas juga ada stand ?" 

"Sepertinya..." 

Berjalan menuju tangga ke lantai dua, aku melihat sebuah banner berdiri di dekat tangga. Penasaran dengan banner tersebut aku terdiam mengamatinya. Pada banner terdapat ilustrasi dari beberapa karakter digital bersamaan dengan latar belakang bertema sekolah. 

Apa ini... promosi game ? Kelihatannya seperti promosi game bagiku. Sebab terdapat keterangan-keterangan disana seperti judul, tanggal perilisan, serta... coba demo gratis. 

"Ada apa Theo, terus-terusan lihatin banner ?" 

"Aku seperti tidak asing dengan gambaran karakternya... mungkin saja ada keterangan studio gamenya..." 

Saat kuteliti dengan rincinya, akhirnya nampak studio keterangan dari si studio yang membuat game ini. Langsung, diriku membeku ketika mendapatinya. 

"Stu-Studio MAJA ?!!!!" tak sadar aku sampai mengeluarkan suara keras hingga Eri terkejut. 

"Theo ngagetin..." 

"Maaf Eri..." 

Tak kusangka rupanya memang benar game yang ada di banner ini adalah buatan studio Maja. Pantas aku merasa tak asing, mereka adalah salah satu studio game di Indonesia. Di saat studio game lain berfokus menciptakan game bergenre RPG, FPS, sebagainya... justru studio Maja ahli di bidang game visual novel. 

"Kamu... tahu studio Maja kah, Theo ?" 

"Tentu saja ! Mereka salah satu pilar pembangkit game visual novel di Indonesia ! Aku selalu menantikan karya-karya mereka sejak 3 tahun lalu seperti My Romantic Youth Love Story, Remnant of Blue Sky, dan yang kudengar mau dirilis... rupanya ini !" 

Ah, tanpa sadar aku terlalu bersemangat ketika mengatakannya kepada Eri. Setiap kali seseorang menanyakan hal yang kusukai, memang beginilah jadinya. Kutolehkan wajahku kepada Eri, dimana ia sekarang tengah terkagum dengan mulutnya yang terbuka. 

"Maaf... aku terlalu bersemangat tadi." 

"Tidak, aku kagum ternyata Theo tahu banyak tentang game visual novel." 

"Ya... sejak SMP aku memang tertarik dengan game semacam itu, ahaha... sampai tak sadar aku punya banyak koleksinya." 

"Mau coba ?" 

"Eh ?" 

"Disini tertulis bisa coba game demo-nya di lantai dua, eksklusif." 

"Kamu tidak keberatan ? Maksudku, kamu mau lihat-lihat hal lain bukan." 

Eri menggelengkan kepalanya. Lalu kami pun menaiki lantai kedua. Sesampainya di atas, lantai dua dari bangunan utama rupanya tidak kalah ramai dengan area taman. Banyak pengunjung yang berlalu lalang, karena di lantai kedua diperuntukkan bagi komunitas, maka mereka diperbolehkan men'cicipi' stand dari setiap komunitas yang ada di Purwokerto. Misalnya seperti komunitas game, trading card, cosplay, bahkan sampai... 

Geh— stand komunitasku... 

Sambil berjalan di antara kumpulan orang, aku berusaha untuk tidak terlihat oleh setiap anggota dari komunitasku. Alasan utama bukannya aku tidak ingin mengakui mereka, namun jika aku terlihat tengah berjalan bersama cewek, akan panjang urusannya. 

"Loh, Theo ?" 

Ah sial ! Aku telah ketahuan ! Dari setiap tempat yang kuhindari, kenapa bisa ia berada di dekat pintu masuk stand gamenya ?! 

"Wuah, Theo berduaan dengan cewek ! Ternyata begitu ya... pantas kamu tidak mau datang sama kita tadi. Kulaporkan pada semuanya ah~" 

"Berhenti disitu, Riki !" 

Aku langsung berlari ke arahnya, memegang erat tangannya sebelum ia sempat menuliskan sesuatu pada handphone. 

"Dengarkan sebentar, ini semua—" 

"Theo, siapa ?" Eri muncul di sampingku saat diriku tengah bernegosiasi dengan Riki. 

"Ah, dia, hanya kenalan saja." 

"Kenalan apanya ?! Kita dari satu komunitas bukan, kau ini..." Riki dengan kerasnya melepas genggaman tanganku ketika mengatakannya. 

"Komunitas apa ?" 

"Bisa dibilang, itu adalah tempat orang sepertiku ditampung." Jawabku. 

"Kau— setidaknya bisa jelaskan lebih bagus lagi napa ! Dia berada satu komunitas denganku, Komunitas Anime Purwokerto." Riki langsung menyangkalnya. 

"Hmm... ada komunitas seperti itu kah." 

"Lalu, siapa dia Theo ? Bagaimana bisa cewek secantik dirinya bisa bersama wibu sepertimu." 

Nampaknya ia masih kesal karena mendapatiku berjalan bersama Eri, dibandingkan dengan anggota komunitas... 

"Kuperkenalkan, Eri ini Riki dan Riki... ini Eri." 

"Senang bertemu." 

"A-Aku juga..." 

Langsung setelahnya, Riki menarikku menghadap ke belakang agar Eri tidak dapat mendengarkan apa yang ia coba bicarakan bersamaku. 

"Bagaimana caranya kau bisa menggaet cewe secantik dia hah ?! Kau pakai sesuatu ya ?!" 

"Apa yang kau katakan ?! Ia hanya teman sekelasku di Program ke Jepang !" 

"Benarkah ?" 

"Benar !" 

"Heh... teman sekelas rupanya. Ya, tentu saja ya, mana mungkin dirimu bisa dapat cewe seperti dia." 

Entah kenapa perkataannya barusan membuatku ingin memukulnya sekarang juga. 

Kami langsung berbalik kembali saat Eri memandangi kami berdua dengan bingungnya. 

"Kalian berdua apa ingin ke stand game juga ?" tanya si Riki. 

"Um. Theo bilang ingin mencobanya." 

"Maaf jadi ganggu kalian haha... kalau begitu aku pamit dulu. Antriannya cukup panjang barusan, jadi cepet-cepet gih." 

Melambaikan tangannya Riki pun akhirnya meninggalkan kami berdua. Sebelum ia pergi dari hadapanku, dapat kulihat ia mengarahkan pandangan tajamnya kepadaku. Entah mengapa... aku dapat merasakan diriku akan mendapatkan hal yang buruk setelah ini...

Kami mengantri selama kurang lebih 15 menit sebelum bisa memasuki stand game yang ternyata cukup ramai dikunjungi oleh pengunjung lainnya. Dibatasi oleh dua buah dinding biru terdapat tiga buah komputer yang dimana kami dapat mencoba gamenya di sana. Saat memasuki stand kami disambut oleh cardboard figures karakter dari game tersebut. 

Staff yang berada di stand pun ramah, ia memberikan kami selebaran berisikan keterangan dari game serta beberapa informasi mengenai studio Maja. Bisa kubilang, ini mengingatkanku saat mengunjungi konvensi teknologi, prosedurnya mirip. 

"Silahkan masnya bisa coba demo dari gamenya. Pada demo ini, kami menyajikan gameplay dari visual novel terbaru kami yang akan dirilis global pada bulan Oktober nanti." Sementara menunggu game yang tengah loading, staff menjelaskan padaku mengenai gamenya. 

"Baik, silahkan menikmati. Jika ada pertanyaan bisa panggil saya nanti." 

"Ah ya, terimakasih mbak." 

Tanpa perlu berlama-lama lagi, aku langsung memainkan game tersebut. Tujuan pertamaku adalah dapat menjajalnya sebelum waktu demo berakhir, yaitu kami diberikan waktu hanya selama 5 menit. Saat diriku tengah memainkannya, Eri duduk di sebelahku mengawasi setiap pergerakanku pada layar. 

Sejauh diriku bermain tidak ada permasalahan yang begitu berarti. Justru aku kagum dengan perkembangan yang mereka buat pada game kali ini. Dari desain karakter, User Interface, dan gameplay mereka rombak habis-habisan. Pada seri kali ini, Maja Studio berusaha menggabungkan gameplay visual novel dan dating-sim, sehingga tidak hanya memilih rute saja, namun diriku perlu meningkatkan love gauge agar dapat membuka rute tiap gadis. 

Yang membuatku terpana adalah... CG yang tergambar begitu baiknya. Seakan... game ini dibuat oleh studio VN terkenal semacam Key. Aku sangat tertarik pada game tersebut, hingga sampailah pada scene tertentu. 

Terdapat seorang gadis muda tengah berdiri di antara banyaknya pohon, tiba-tiba saja angin kencang berhembus melewatinya bersamaan dengan ratusan helai daun beterbangan. Setelahnya pandangan mendekat pada sang gadis, menunjukkan wajah gadis dengan rambut panjangnya terurai. Aku... tercengang. Latar belakang, atmosfer suasananya, desain karakter... berpadu dengan musik... ini sempurna. 

Tidak— bukan itu saja. Aku paham betul scene ini, aku tahu darimana. Ini bukannya... mirip seperti animasi yang ia buat pada buku gambar Eri beberapa hari sebelumnya. Saat aku klik, sang gadis berkata, 

"Tahukah kau... bagaimana sebenarnya bentuk dari cinta itu ?" 

Kilatan cahaya putih muncul menampilkan opening game berjudul 'A Shape of First Love'. Pembukaan dari gamenya pun tak kalah menakjubkan, animasinya mulus banget, transisi ke tiap CG sangat pas, bahkan... sial, CGnya saja punya animasi Live2D ! Dilihat dari gameplay 3 menit serta opening 2 menit, aku dapat memprediksikan game ini mungkin akan menjadi seri terlaris mereka. Aku pasti... akan jadi salah seorang yang membelinya di awal perilisan. 

"Bagaimana ?" Eri bertanya padaku saat diriku masih bengong melihat apa yang kulihat. 

"Ini... luar biasa. Mereka mengembangkannya begitu banyak... aku bahkan tak tahu apa ini beneran dibuat oleh game dev lokal." 

"Baguslah kalau begitu." 

Walau game telah berakhir, aku menyimpan satu pertanyaan besar yang ingin kutanyakan padanya sekarang... sembari kami melihat tampilan credits dari game. 

"Eri, tadi aku melihat salah satu scene di game yang mengingatkanku sesuatu. Apa kau... ikut andil dari pembuatan game ini ?" 

Eri mengangguk dengan mantapnya, 

"Benar. Berkat saranmu sewaktu itu, aku bisa memperbaiki CGnya tepat waktu." 

"Bagaimana demonya mas ?" 

Tiba-tiba saja seorang staff laki-laki mendatangi kami. Lalu, ketika ia tengah melihat diriku bersama Eri, ia memperlihatkan wajah kagetnya. 

"Apakah Anda benar 'Shimari' ?" Ia menanyakan sesuatu kepada Eri, mengatakan sebuah nama aneh yang terkenal seperti nickname dalam game. 

"Benar." 

"Terimakasih banyak Anda meluangkan waktu untuk hadir pada hari ini ! Kami sangat berterimakasih kepada Anda dengan gambaran serta animasi dalam pengembangan game kali ini !" 

"Ya... saya pun merasa sama karena telah dilibatkan pada pembuatannya." 

"Namun sungguh, Anda luar biasa. Banyak pengunjung yang menyukai animasi CG yang Anda—" 

Saat aku tengah melihatnya, diriku terasa lemas. Seolah jiwaku terbang menjauh menuju ke langit ketujuh. Staf mengatakan banyak pujian yang aku bahkan tidak mengerti apa yang tengah ia katakan dan Eri hanya mengangguk mendengar semuanya. Kesadaranku kini terpusatkan pada dirinya. 

Aku tak mengerti kenapa ia berkata animasinya tidaklah bagus. Tidak mungkin sesuatu seperti ini dikatakan menggunakan kata 'tidaklah bagus'. Karya ini tidaklah dibuat oleh amatiran, seni indah seperti ini diciptakan oleh seorang seniman yang telah memoles kemampuannya selama bertahun-tahun. Dan tidak mungkin ia tidak mempelajarinya begitu lama. 

Setiap warna pada dunia di sekelilingku terkuras habis disaat kumelihatnya... Aku merasa seperti debu kecil di depannya. 

Tak berarti, tak berwarna, hanyalah monokrom... hitam dan putih. 

'Eri, kau terlalu jauh untuk kukejar.'

Semenjak kecil telah tertarik pada Negeri Sakura, Theo Lasmana selalu memimpikan suatu saat nanti mampu menginjakkan kaki pada tempat tersebut. Namun, semua orang selalu mengatakan bahwa impiannya tersebut terlalu tinggi bagi seseorang sepertinya. Membuat dirinya meninggalkan impiannya itu hingga pada akhirnya, pada tahun ketiganya ini dia berniat untuk mewujudkannya. Suatu hari ia bertemu dengan seorang gadis yang memiliki tekad yang sama sepertinya, kembali membakar semangatnya untuk melangkah maju... menggapai impiannya yang lebih tinggi dari langit.

"Good as usual. Though I cannot say the same for the future students who wish to study arts." Meg sighed. "They won't accept students who are not from the East region to study arts. In fact, they tried to convince those who are currently enrolled to switch their subjects."
The subject brought attention to Emma. She put the brush on top of the pallet and put them on the stool next to the easel. "What's the big deal for the faculty to have students from the North? Aren't the North free to choose whatever they want?"

"He's in the class, I guess." Emma frowned. She had not seen Jared that day. He did not greet her at the car park this morning like usual and she did not wait for him there as her mind was still occupied with what her father said during breakfast. Emma frowned deeper. Her eyes looked down on her shoes. The word 'restricted' had somehow got Emma's mood worse. Meg was right. None of the residents were free to do whatever they want. Even for the North residents, they were bound to follow whatever the government established for them. Remembering how mad her father was towards her choice of partner, she understood more that even her life was being restricted to love whoever she wanted. She exhaled deeply. What should she do? She wondered.
Noticing Emma's bad mood, Meg was about to change the subject but she was stopped by the tall figure who stood by the door.
Jared had just finished his class and decided to look for Emma's whereabout as he had not see her since morning. He did not come to the car park to greet her for he came quite late to University. After finding no trace of Emma at the library, he went to art studio, hoping to find Emma there. And there she was, at the studio with someone that he had not expected to see yet.
Meg was fully aware of Jared's relationship with Emma and how Emma was still unaware of who Meg really was to Jared. She also knew that Jared did not wish Emma to know about Meg's relationship with Jared. Meg respected that.
As if sensing Jared's presence, Emma turned around to look at the door. Her eyes found him standing there. As their eyes met, Jared walked towards Emma slowly.
"Am I interrupting your mentoring session?" He asked Emma.
She shook her head and Meg answered him for her. "We're not having mentoring session today. I was about to leave after inspecting Emma's first touch on her final project," she said waving at the canvas next to them, "which might need a little more touch." Meg grinned.
"I see." Jared nodded, looking at the black painted canvas. "She'll work it out."
Meg smiled at both of them and bid them goodbye before she went out of the studio, leaving the couple behind.
"You don't seem happy to see me." Commented Jared after observing Emma's mood for few seconds. He took her hands and hold them both. "What's bothering you?"
"I didn't see you this morning." Emma looked at him.
"Ah, that. I came to uni at midday." He replied. He brought his face down to her level and tilted his head to the side as he leaned closer to her face so he could kiss her. Emma kissed him back, pressing her lips harder to his lips.
But it end quick as she stepped back from the closeness that he created when he kissed her. Jared frowned at her action. "Did Meg said something to you?" He asked, wondering what happened between the two as he found Emma to be in a bad mood when he came.
"No. She didn't say anything except criticising my black canvas." Emma replied.
"You're not in a good mood." He stated and she shook her head. Emma's mood was not always bright. She's often so sullen. But Jared could tell that his girlfriend had something that bothered her mind a lot. He knew she was sad. "What's wrong, Em?"
As Emma could not hold herself back any longer, she broke down in front of Jared. She cried on Jared's chest excessively as Jared wrapped her with his arms, soothing her back, telling her that it was okay. He let her cry until she stopped. He did not enquire her any further of the matter as he did not want to push her to talk about what distress her. But Emma did not wait for Jared to ask again, she told him what happened as she had to and she knew she could confide her sorrow to him.
Jared tried to console Emma as best as he could. He told her that he would be alright and told Emma not to worry about his family at the South. As disturbing as it was to Jared mind, Jared managed to stay calm in front of Emma. His mind tried to think of different things, different options that he could choose to create the gap between him and Emma smaller. There was the only way to solve the issue happening in his relationship with Emma. As much as he did not like it, he seemed like he had no other choice but to go ahead with something that he had been trying to deny for the past few months. Unless, if he let Emma go and stick to his plan on his own without any interruption.
When Jared walked Emma to the car park, they found her driver was already standing next to the black sedan that belonged to Ramses' family. He did not pursue Emma to went somewhere else that afternoon, he let her go home with her driver and told her that he would see her next week.
"You have a good weekend and don't stress." Jared said to her. "I'll be alright. No need to worry." He kissed her forehead and her cheek one last time before she got into the car and disappear from his sight. He stood there for another moment, contemplating over the decision he was going to make.
After he was convinced with the outcome of the decision that he would make, he then dragged his feet towards the place that he had been avoiding. As the wind blew, his step became heavier than before. His situation with Emma had forced him to make decision that he would have never made before. As he arrived at his destination, he went inside the building. Reluctantly, Jared walked towards Meg and her companion to meet her in the middle.
"Hello, Miss Cloud." Jared said to Meg politely and to the old lady next to her.
"Hi Mr. Prent." Replied Meg who looked too eager and too happy with this encounter. The old lady next to her eyed Jared from head to toe. He appeared to be younger than Meg Cloud which brought suspicion to the old lady.
Nevertheless, the old lady bid Meg goodbye, noting that the boy seemed wanted to see Meg for something.
"Goodbye, Mrs. Piper. I'll see you tomorrow." Meg said, waving at the old lady who was none other than the owner of Museum she was currently working at. She turned to Jared. Her expression was warm. "What could possibly brought you here?"
"I'd like to consider your offer. Under one condition." Jared said in serious tone to Meg.
"Shall we bring this to a more private place, then?" Suggested Meg.
And with that, they left the Museum.
