The three Guardians who had ahold of me started moving me toward the door, but the further away from Christian I got, the more I wanted to come back for round two. I was so close to using my levitational powers to see if they could free me, but in the back of my mind, I thought I could end up hurting someone who didn't deserve it, and I didn't want Christian to turn me into that kind of monster.
Nevertheless, if I could break free of my own accord, I was going to do it. I twisted and turned, picked my feet up off of the ground and kicked, shouting, "I'm going to kill you, Christian Henry! And you know I can!"
If he was smart, he would've kept his mouth shut, but instead he told me where I could go and called me a nasty name. 
"Seriously?" Cadence asked, taking her eyes off of me for a second to look at him.
Christian had a smirk on what was left of his face, but then his expression changed really quickly, and I could only assume he'd gotten an IAC message from someone to knock it off. If it wasn't Cadence, it had to have been Hannah, who was technically his boss at the moment. Hannah might seem all nice and gentle most of the time, but when she's mad, you'll know it.
By then, I was out in the hall, and they were dragging me to an elevator. Once I couldn't see Christian anymore, I began to calm down. I still wanted to murder him, but that would have to wait till later. I stopped trying to break free, and by the time we reached the basement, the grips on my arms had loosened, though no one let go of me completely. 
The elevator doors opened, and Job led us down a long, dark hallway. Up ahead of us, there were three holding cells, similar to the place where Sam and Laura had been kept, though a little nicer, and there were windows in the doors so we could see them. The Vampires inside looked upset or bored. They were sitting on beds or cots. Some of them were pacing inside of the small space. None of them looked happy.
A line of chairs was set up across from the cells, and people with clipboards were taking notes. What they were doing exactly, I had no idea, but Ashley was one of them. I was glad to see her, even if I might have to explain to her that I'd just torn the face off of one of our teammates.
I pulled away from the Guardians as soon as Ash saw me. She stood up and I wrapped my arms around her. It was just nice to see someone who knew exactly how I felt. I was sure she'd be just as angry as I was at Christian when she found out what he'd done. Ash wouldn't tear his face off, though. She's not as impulsive as I am. I was starting to feel a little childish.
Ashley pulled back a bit to look at me. "You look as awful as I feel." The sound of her laughing made me feel slightly better for a moment until she said, "Oh, no! Are you bleeding?"
She had me by the wrist, and for the first time, I noticed how bloody my hands were. I even had sprinkles of blood on my clothes. "No," I assured her. "But Christian is. A lot."
Her mouth dropped open for a few seconds before she asked, "What happened?"
My sister interrupted. "I'm sure Cass will be happy to fill you in. I need to go talk to Christian, though. Can Cass hang out with you for a while?"
Ashley's smile changed to alarm quickly, and I wondered if my sister had messaged her something. Still, she said, "Sure. I guess that means you haven't heard anything from anyone?"
I glanced at my sister and could see that she was as confused as I was. "What do you mean?" Cadence asked. "Are you talking about the Guardians who disappeared?"
"Yeah, the guys that are missing," Ashley confirmed, nodding. She pulled her cell phone out of her pocket. "I've tried calling Jamie's cell a thousand times, but I keep getting an out of range message. I thought maybe if they disabled their IACs, they wouldn't think to check phones, but I guess they did."
"They who?" my sister asked, but she didn't remember Ashley had missed out on that whole enlightening conversation we'd just had upstairs. Sure, we'd both been suspecting a portal before Christian confirmed it for us, but Ashley was still back about five moves behind where the rest of us were now.
"Ash, they weren't taken by Vampires," I said as gently as I could. "They're in a portal." Now it was my turn to reach out and comfort her.
Her pretty face went ugly. "What?" I thought she might throw up all over me, but I held my ground.
I continued, "Yeah, a Blood Moon Portal. We weren't sure until a few minutes ago when Christian showed us footage of them just disappearing, but we've kind of suspected that's what happened since we found those artifacts."
"A portal?" Ashley sank down onto her chair, her face pale. "A portal? I didn't think those really existed."
It seemed like a silly thing to say, considering Elliott and Alex had both come through one, but I didn't see the need to point that out. "They do. Apparently, more than one. And now we have to figure out how to get them back."
"A portal?" She sounded like a broken recordwhatever that means. The lady next to Ashley gave up her chair for me, and I thanked her and sat down next to her, keeping one hand on her, though I was afraid I might get her all bloody.
Hannah whispered something to my sister, and then Cadence said, "Cass, I'm going to go see exactly what Major Henry knows. Stay with Ash. Try to calm her down. I know how angry you are. I am, too, but we can't rip the throats out of our own teammates, all right?"
"He's lucky I didn't kill him." I gave her a pointed look so she'd understand I meant business.
"You don't want his blood on your hands." She looked down at my bloodstains. "Not all of it anyway." She gave me another exasperated look and then turned and headed back to the elevator, her entourage in tow.
Once my sister was gone, I decided I needed to let her deal with Christian and focus on something else. I needed to find Hamish Stewart or Holland. I was frustrated that I couldn't break through. Using her IAC, Cadence told me to try to help Ashley, but I didn't know how I could do that. Right now, she was staring off in the distance, catatonic.

*Oh God! Did everyone see that? I hope not, that would look suspicious no matter who you are, I already have enough death glares as it is.*
As Damien glanced around the now nearly silent hallway, chatter began to resurface between groups of people, when suddenly a voice called out.
"Damien King! I challenge you!" Christian called out with a cheerful smile. "Let's put these things to the test right?"
"You're on blondie! Don't complain I went too hard after I pummel you!" Damien said, reopening his system.
*Where exactly do I see my mana?*
Skimming the page, he noticed the next page of the booklet had become an identical shade of purple, and with a simple thought, the page of the booklet flipped and Damien was brought face to face with a spread known as {Magic}.

In the bottom corner of Damien's vision, there was now a small blue bar, and above it the number {12/12}. With the time it took the set up the Mana Display through the system, the sixty seconds had passed. Damien and Christian then heard a voice, in the same manner in which Prophet had spoken to Damien, however this time female.
[ A challenge has been issued, moving Damien King and Christian Arlen to Battleground #11-B. Battle rules are standard, spectating is allowed. May luck be on your side. ]
Suddenly, in a flash of blue light, Damien and Christian were whisked away and brought to a large, open plain, the ground made of rough brown dirt in a 45ft diameter, surrounded by tall trees.
[ Battle begins in 10... 9... 8... ]
"Good luck Damien! Hope you used your blessing for something good!"
[ 3... 2... 1... ]
"Wait, blessing singular?"
[ The battle may now commence. ]
At the exact time, Damien said those words, the voice spoke and drowned him out. Suddenly, it appeared as if wings had sprouted from Christian's back, as he lunged forward towards Damien.
"Bet you weren't expecting this huh!" Christian yelled with excitement "I chose to instantly get this as a skill! Probably better than your choice huh!"
As soon as Christian got within 10 feet of him, Damien activated his Flight Magic and shot up 20 feet in an instant.
"Not expecting that, huh wing boy?"
Christian stared into the sky, barely hovering with the gentle flap of his bat-like wings, with a dumbfounded expression.
"You chose to get flight toon? But where are your wings? And how did you move that fa-"
Before Christian could even finish his sentence, Damien reversed his flight spell and fell like the 135lb bullet he was. With that move alone, Damien landed square on the back of Christian, who was trying to start flying upwards towards him, and a loud crunch was heard.

It all happened very suddenly. At one moment, Damien was walking the halls of his school, and in the next, it was as if a scene had appeared in front of him from a novel.

“I’m coming with you!” Luis unbuckled his seatbelt and jumped out of the car. 

“Luis...” Christian sighed. He felt bad for having to put him through this, and made him think about his own childhood. The only difference was that Luis was much braver than he had ever been. 

He grabbed Luis’s hand as they walked through the back door. The two made their way to the living room, and the first thing they saw was how Vincenzo pointed his gun at Christian from a distance. 

“Luis.” Vincenzo breathed and looked at his little brother who had hidden behind Christian. “Vince put down the gun,” Christian told him, but Vincenzo shook his head. 

“Give me Luis!” He demanded as Luis’s grip around Christian’s back had tightened. 

“Vince, I did not come here to argue—I came here because I want to spare your life,” Christian spoke and threw his gun on the floor before he held up both of his hands as he surrendered himself. 

“I could’ve handed Luis over to my family, but I didn’t and they don’t know I have him—because trust me or not, I do not intend to hurt him.” Christian tried to get through to him. 

Seeing Luis tremble in fear made him believe that there had to be another way to convince his friend, one which did not include violence. “You know, I was going to threaten you with Luis’s life so you would work along, but after seeing you...Vince, you need help.” Christian sighed. 

He knew that this was not the same Vince who he had always admired and even secretly looked up to. The same Vince who he had been jealous of for having a kind and bright personality. 

“Vince, you have to put down the gun—you can not win this battle. Luis saved Beau.” Christian told him and watched as Vincenzo’s eyes had widened. “Yes, that’s right—Beau is free, and when your dad finds out that Luis had a hand in thi—“ 

“He’ll kill him,” Vince whispered and cocked his gun. “He won’t have to know if I kill you right now,” Vincenzo spoke with trembling hands. 

“You are not going to shoot me.” Christian chuckled and grabbed Luis’s hand to pull him in front of him. “Even if you kill me there’s still Beau and Isobel, she’s on my side now.” 

“You’re lying!” Vince yelled out as Christian took a few steps closer. “I’m not, she’s the one who set him free.” 

“Vince, you’re losing—and I’m offering to show you mercy. I have begged everyone to show you and Luis mercy.” He spoke while he stepped closer and closer. 

Vince pointing a gun at his head did not faze him because he knew that the real Vince was still somewhere in there. 

“Serena—who is innocent and has nothing to do with this, has begged me to show you mercy. She could’ve handed him over to my family, but she didn’t—because she cares about you.” Christian took one step closer before he was close enough to cover the gun with his free hand. 

“If you wanted to hurt me, you would’ve done so a long time ago.” Christian looked him in the eyes. “I know I’ve made some mistakes, and that I’ve abandoned you as everyone else has—and maybe if I would’ve been there for you when you needed me...things wouldn’t have turned out like this.” 

Vince had tears in his eyes and knew that his words were true. Christian had despised him when he needed him the most, and at that time the only family who made him feel like he was worth something was his father. 

“You’re on the losing end here, and I’m trying to save you. I’ll make sure that you and Luis get spared, but you have to work along with me.” Christian told him. Vincenzo shook his head and pushed away Christian’s hand so he could point it at his head again. 

“I can’t do that—I can’t look at how you, Serena, and the baby live a happy life while I had to protect Luis from the monster the Lamberti’s and the Alfonzo’s created. When I have to live without a mother!” 

“The men responsible for her death have already been punished many years ago—the Alfonzo’s who had nothing to do with this have already been punished many years ago and so have the Lamberti’s.” Christian slowly covered Vince’s gun again. 

“Serena grew up without a family, Beau lived as your puppet and you shouldn’t punish them because of who they are—you know that, and that’s why we have been friends for a long time. It’s because you know right from wrong.” Christian told him. 

“You know that the one who gave the order to lit that house on fire was your dad—and that’s why you have always hated him, so why are you doing this?” He wondered. 

“We all have one common enemy, and that enemy is Fabio—you have always told me Fabio is our enemy,” He spoke. 

“How far do you want to go, are you going to wait until he’s going to hurt Luis?” Christian waited for an answer, but there wasn’t one. All Vincenzo could do was lower his head. 

“If I don’t have my dad or Luis, I have no one. I have no choice.” He barely whispered and closed his eyes as a tear rolled down his cheek. “That’s not true. 

“We have discussed the situation about your dad a long time ago—and we both agreed that he’s not a good person—so tell me, why are you really doing this?” Christian was determined to get to the bottom of this. 

“I-I told you, my mom—“ 

“Is dead, she’s dead,” Christian spoke. “She’s gone and there’s nothing you can do to change that.” 

“Vince, you don’t really want to hurt Serena or Beau—because you love them.” He tried to remind him of the good time which according to Serena they had all spend together. 

“The last thing you want to do is hurt the people you love, and after you come back to your senses—you will have to deal with that for the rest of your life.” Christian sighed as his thoughts went to Serena who he had betrayed. 

“It’s so easy for you, isn’t it Christian?” Vince’s hands trembled as more tears began to roll down his cheeks. 

“You have your family, dozen people following you, you have Serena, a baby on the way—you don’t know how I feel, you like to say that you’ve had a hard life, but look at you?” Vincenzo spoke. “I needed something good in my life, I found Serena—she made me smile and she made me happy...but just like everything else she’s yours, you even took Luis from me.” 

“Do you know what I felt like when I heard that she was an Alfonzo? I felt like I was getting punished like I can’t have anything good in life!” Vince yelled out through tears. “But still, I was willing to stay by her side but you made her believe that it was all a lie. I was ready to give my life for her—and once you told her not to trust me...she threw me away like everyone else,” 

“That’s not true!” Christian jumped to Serena’s defense. “Serena has never stopped caring about you, not once. I know you still love her.” 

Christian slowly began to blame himself. It was true, he had doubted Vince and even Beau did—but despite knowing him for all those years, the thought of Vince being truthful had not crossed his mind. He failed Vince. 

“What does it matter? She hates me!” Vince screamed in Christian’s face. “She will never love me, my mom loved me and she isn’t here anymore—Luis can’t even look me in the eye anymore. Why would I risk my life and go against my dad when no one loves me?” 

“That’s not true, I love you,” Christian spoke as he looked down at Luis who had his head buried in his waist. Luis was shaking in fear and did not have the guts to face his brother. Luis had expected to talk to him so he could get through to him, but every time he closed his eyes—the only thing he could see was how his brother pushed him. How his brother had turned into a monster. 

“I love you as a brother, and that’s why I’m willing to talk to you—friends can love you, Vince, now please put down the gun, and let’s talk about this!” Christian pleaded. 

“It’s too late, it’s all too late—I can’t turn back anymore.” Vince had finally lowered his gun and looked at Christian with a painful expression on his face. That’s all he wanted to hear, that he was loved. 

“Even if I tell my dad to stop, he won’t. I don’t have that kind of power, you know how he is.” 

“It’s not too late, I know you still love Serena and that deep down you don’t want to do this to her,” Christian spoke. “Help me take down Fabio, just join the winning team so I can spare your life and Luis’s life. So you can gain back Serena’s trust!” 

“I can’t, it’s too late.” Vince cried and turned his head to Luis. “I never intended for things to go this far, all I’ve ever wanted was to work along with my dad so I could keep Luis safe, I’m so sorry.” He breathed before he turned the gun and held it against his own temple. “I’m so sorry, Christian—please keep Luis safe.” 

“Vince put down the gun!” Christian spoke in shock. He had already prepared himself for a dozen of different scenarios, but this was definitely not one of them. One bad move could ruin his entire plan. 

Luis who was beginning to realize what was happening removed his head from Christian’s waist and ran towards Vince. 

“Vince, please stop—I’m begging you to stop, please!” Luis cried out and pulled his legs. “Don’t do this, please don’t leave me alone!” He begged him as Vince closed his eyes and took a deep breath. “Tell Beau I’m sorry.” 

Christian blocked out the sounds of Luis begging him to do something and crossed his arms as he looked at Vincenzo. 

“Tell Serena I love h—“ 

Before Vince got the chance to finish his sentence, Christian grabbed him by his neck and pushed him against the wall as the gun fell to the floor. “Love? Are you crazy? Think about Luis, think about Serena!” 

Vince looked at Luis who was down on his knees, crying—and got an immediate wake-up call. Ending it for himself wouldn’t do anything. 

He had been searching for his brother, he had not closed a single eye—and it all would’ve been for nothing. 

“If you really love her, you will do everything you can to save her, if you want to hurt yourself afterward, then do what you have to do—“ He yelled in his face. 

“But before that—you are going to work with me, do I make myself clear?” Christian tightened the grip around his neck as Vince tried to catch his breath. “You can kill yourself, but know that it won’t do anything because I will never forgive you!” 

“If you really regret your actions and if you truly love her, you won’t run away like a coward until you help me fix this mess. You claim to love Serena and Luis, but if you do not help me, their lives will be in danger!” Christian released him as Vince nodded his head. “Good, because I have a plan—and you’re not going to ruin it for me.” 

“What do you want me to do?”

Getting pregnant by her boss after a one-night stand and suddenly leaving her job as stripper was the last thing Serena had hoped for, and to make matters worse he is the heir to the mafia. Serena is calm while Christian is fearless and outspoken but somehow the two have to make it work. When Christian forces Serena to go through with a fake engagement she tries her hardest to fit in the family and the luxurious life the women live while Christian is fighting as hard as he can to keep his family safe, but everything takes a turn when the hidden truth about Serena and her birth parents comes out. Their idea was to play pretend until the baby was born and the rule was to not fall in love, but plans don't always go as expected. Will Christian be able to protect the mother of his unborn child? And will they end up catching feelings for one another?

 Later that day Christian, Montel, and I went to see Big D. It was easier than I thought, I expected some bullshit to happen. We were in brick city after all also known as the projects. However we received a very warm welcome. Well as warm as it could be with four men carrying AR15 rifles and bandanas tied around their faces could be. They also didnt speak but like to motion with their guns which way we needed to go.
I felt no fear as I followed these men who I didnt know through the projects. There were kids everywhere. Also adults but mostly kids. Someone was barbecuing an alligator while others looked on in amazement. A few guys were playing basketball and some girls were keeping an eye on the small kids at the playground. It looked to be a tight knit community, but we knew better. They all took notice of our unfamiliar faces, wondering who we are. Especially me since I was the only female in our group.
We arrived at an apartment. It was located in what they called the new houses. Not because they were houses but they were new. The city was slowly tearing down the jets and building these new nice ass apartments in their place. They were beautiful. Tall ceilings, large rooms, and private balconies.
However they just moved the same people into these new apartments, allowing them to live better but in the same neighborhood. I vaguely remember coming here when I was younger. My mom used to get her hair done by someone who lived in these apartments. They looked the same as they did now minus the new houses.
Inside the apartment there was leather everywhere. Definitely a man's apartment, not a soft color in sight. We were led to a spacious kitchen. This place was pristine, granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances everywhere. In the middle of the kitchen at and island countertop a man was chopping bell peppers and onions. He seemed focused and didnt look up when we entered. So I took the opportunity to size him up.
He was a very large man. Christian was six-two so this guy had to be about six-five as he towered over Christian. It was also apparent the he didnt miss a meal, he was healthy maybe two-sixty or two-eighty. He had seven thick braids going to the back and even in his home he had on shades. He was draped in jewelry, three chains around his neck, a Rolex on his wrist and some bracelets. He also had rings on most of fingers. Flashy much? Truth be told he smelled like money.
Finally, he stopped chopping and his eyes landed on me. The arm Christian had around me tightened and Big D looked at him. He visibly looked around us to Montel who smiled and waved. He then said, "Welcome to my production floor. You all have made it on your first day to where not many people venture. Who am I doing business with today?"
His voice was low and gruff and when he talked his mouth was full of golds. He looked to Christian when he asked who he was doing business with. Soon Christian moved to stand behind me and the eyes behind the shades turned to me.
"So little Anna, you want to be a drug dealer?" he asked. "Do your dad know what you're doing?"
I pushed down that throat clogging fear I now felt. I didnt think he would ask too many questions. I just wanted the product, and I would pay and we can leave. But he's cooking and shit and he seemed to want to talk. So I found my voice after just a brief hesitation. "He doesn't know," I answered looking straight into his eyes. "And I'd prefer to keep it that way."
He huffed and blew out a breathe, "Your old man and me, we go back a long ways. We are friends and I don't have many of them. However I won't tell unless he ask. Please take a seat. Your guard dog can relax." He smirked at Christian.
I took a seat at the stool he indicated, it was right across from where he stood. He took his glasses off and smiled at me. "I'm sure you guess your old man called me today and told me you'd be coming by. So I got something ready for you. But I wanted to talk to you first. I have questions and I expect and honest answer."
I looked back at Christian to make sure he was still there and he was right behind my chair, close enough to touch. Montel stayed in the doorway. I felt safe with them but Big D was a little intimidating and I was on his turf. "Shoot." I said my voice surprisingly even.
"Why do you want to sell this crap? I heard nothing but good things about you from Mickey, he said you are smart. He told me you got to private school. Everything you could have is at your fingertips. This is gone dirty your hands." Big D was moving his hands back and forth while he spoke. He was also sounding like a dad, something I didnt need right now.
I sat up straighter, "With all due respect sir, I don't need a lecture. I need a supplier that won't cross me." I said.
"So, you have been crossed before?" he asked looking interested.
"Yes," I said, deciding to tell him the truth. "Recently I have an acquired a lot of problems. One of them being, my guys were robbed and one was shot making an exchange. I owe someone money and we intend to used what you have to pay the debt and hopefully not screw up our lives in the process. And, you are wrong I don't get my hands dirty. I have goons for things like that."
I hoped I hadn't overstepped. Big D didnt look mad he looked thoughtful. Then he looked amused. His amusement was confirmed when he laughed. The fat fucker.
"You have goons?" he said around his laugh. "You make it sound like you are the head of a mafia."
"No." Montel said, catching everyone off guard. "She is the head of the family. Our family."
That got him to stop laughing. "You're serious?" he asked.
"Yes," I said. "It was basically handed to me. I didnt want it at first. However recent events have changed my mind and I have embraced it. Plus a girls got to eat."
"I hate to break it to you princess, but you can't be in this business and not get your hands dirty. I can see it in your eyes you already have, even if the dirt was carried out by one of your goons." Big D said lifting a duffle bag onto the table from the floor. He unzipped the bag and pulled out a brick of what looked like tar.
"What you have here is grade a black tar," he said tearing into the plastic. "You want to try it?"
"Hell naw," Christian said wrapping an arm around my chest like I was going to go for it.
"You never know," Big D said. "Some people like to taste to make sure it's real. The first rule of selling any drug is to not get high on your own supply. This shit will fuck you up, numb you up and have you acting up. Don't ever try it just sell it he said."
"Do we sell it like that?" I asked.
"No," he said smirking. "You really don't know do you."
"No," I said "I really don't. The only drug I know is weed. Never touched anything else."
"There is nothing to compare to china except maybe coke." He said shrugging, "This drug will get you rich. But you can't sell it like this. You would be cheating yourself."
Big D pulled a pill bottle out of the duffle bag and a razor blade. "You got to cut it. This is called no doze. Truck drivers us it to stay awake when they drive overnight. It can also be a cutter for your tar." Big D pulled a piece of the sticky drug from the bundle and poured the contents three of the pill capsule on the tar and chopped it down it with the blade. The end result was a light brown powder.
"You weight it like weed," he said bagging up the powder. "But one gram go for sixty- five and nobody ever just buys one. This shit will have them geeks knocking on your door all night."
I eyed the baggy and realized that Christian and Montel had joined us at the table. "Looks easy enough." Montel said smiling my way.
"So how much?" I asked motioning towards the bag.
"I owe Mickey a favor," Big D said zipping up the duffle bag again and tossing it at Christian. "This ones on free, but when you reup it will cost you."
"Seriously?" I asked. "I don't like free," I said. I reached into my pocket to get some cash. "I'll pay."
"I wouldn't take it if I needed it." Big D said holding up his hands. "This clears a very deep debt that I owe Mickey. I could have been where he is right now but he took that case and didnt mention my name. I been making sure he has everything he needs in there. But this here clears it. It's a pound, uncut. Just take it, if you're as smart as I think you are it will be worth it in the end, just make sure to shop with me."
I was stunned. My boys eyes said to take it. Mic Loc had really came through. I guess I was in his debt now. I nodded to Christian and stuck out my hand to Big D.
"I appreciate it," I said shaking his hand. When I pulled away he held on.
"If you need any help with your other problem let me know. I have goons to," he said and released my hand.
I nodded once. I knew he had goons like I knew they carried AR15's. However I would have to be desperate to take him up on that offer. I got the drugs free as a favor from Mic Loc. There would be nothing else free from this man.

A story of hood life and love.

Annette Brooks is an easy going girl from the hood. She never starts anything she can't finish and never loses the fight. She is known for being a bookworm, so when she finds herself in the middle of a deadly fight, all things  hood become a reality. Annette is soon faced with old enemies and new, while she struggles to balance school, first love, family, and the demands of the streets. In the wake of it all they find comfort in friends that will follow where ever they lead and cross off names on ever growing  list of foes. While trying to survive, loyalties will be forgotten and love a question in their relationship. All they while all they want is out, every time the streets call them back. Will they make it out or just accept that It Is what it is.

For the next 1 week, Christian has been my drive to school. Trish was still angry at me not even talking to me and I haven't seen Dave nor Lily since the party incident. Christian and I had become closer this past week. From fast food places to lunch buddies. And my nightmare?

         Don't let me even get started on that.

      My nightmares have become more frequent lately. From Lucy crying after the accident happened or her eyes wide open staring at me or sometimes instead of Lucy it would be my mom repeating it's all my fault.

       I was currently getting my books from my locker for first period when I heard his voice. His voice that I used to love but now I hate. His voice that always made me have butterflies in my stomach now makes me sick in the stomach. His voice that made me want his presence even now I do want his presence but far far far away.  

     His voice that belongs to Dave.

         "Hey Ash."

         "What do you want Dave?" I asked with hate as I turned to look at him.

           "I tried calling your number but it didn't go through." 

           "Yeah because I blocked yours." He looked as if he hadn't slept for days and his hair looked like he had been running his hand through it a lot. 

           "Look Ash I'm sorry." He said taking a step forward while I took a step back.

           "Don't come near me." I said holding a finger up.

           "Ash it was a mistake......" He started but I interrupted him

           "Save it. I don't want to hear anything from you." I said and I tried to walk away but he held my wrist. The bell rang and the hallway was starting to get empty.

           "Get your filthy hands off me Dave." I said as I tried to free my wrist but his grip was firm.

           "Ash babe......." 

           "I am not your babe." I said through gritted teeth. 

           "Ashley please let me explain." He begged.

           "I have nothing to hear from you so now let me go."  I tried again to free my hand but his firm on my hand had become tighter. 

      The hallway was now empty with no single soul left apart from me and Dave.

         "Leave me alone Dave." I tried again as tears began to fill my eyes but he was just staring at me.

         It hurts.

          "Leave. Her. Alone." Came a deep angry voice and Dave's grip on my wrist loosened but it was still firm.

          "And you are?" Dave asked looking at Christian whose jaw ticked, his grey eyes dark with anger, fist clenched to his sides and was looking at Dave's grip on my wrist.

     Even when he's angry he looks hot!!! 

       Oh my god did I just think Christian Lockwood is hot???

     What is wrong with me?

        "The person who is going to fuck up your life if you don't let her go now." He said with anger and it made butterflies appear in my stomach.

       Oh my god I must be sick.

         "And if I don't what will you do huh?" Dave said with hint of fear in his eyes but he was still holding me. 

         "Like I said fuck.you.up." He took a step forward with each word and Dave moved back with his hand up in surrender.

          "Hey hey hey easy man." Dave said still moving backwards but as soon as Christian turned towards me, Dave tried to take a swing at him but Christian was fast enough to dodge it.

           "Oh man you just fucked with the wrong person." Christian said and he punched his jaw and I swear I heard a bone snap.

      Ouch. Thats gonna hurt.

      A lot.

         Dave fell to the floor with a thud and Christian came to meet me. 

         "Hey are you okay?" He asked softly as he inspected my wrist.

          "Yeah sure just hurts a little." I said still looking at Dave on the floor who was groaning.

           "Wow you do know how to throw a punch." I said trying to lighten the mood.

            "Yeah but that fucker deserves much worse." He said looking at Dave.

            "Hey I'm fine." I said turning his head to look at me with my other hand and as I looked into his eyes, the thundercloud grey eyes softened and I saw different emotions running in his eyes and a particular emotion I couldn't put a name on. We stared at each other for a while before Dave broke the silence.

         "Hey are you guys dating or what?" He asked still on the floor groaning.

          "You can think it that way." Christian answered still looking at me.

           "C'mon let's get you to the nurse's office." He said grabbing my other hand and turning me towards the direction if the nurse's office before he stopped and turned to look at Dave.

           "Oh and David, don't you ever touch Ashley again nor you go near her nor you look at her and don't you ever even think about her or else I'm going to do much worse than punching you." He finished and he walked me to nurse's office leaving jaw broken and I quote 'David' on the floor.

A book filled with hurt,sorrow,dispair,secrets and of course whats a book without romance.

The plane ride to California, the place where Sebastian was from, was around 3 hours long. Most of which was spent by them in a slumber. Having worked quite hard a few days both of them were tired, and if it weren't for the flight attendant, they wouldn't get up even at their destination.
Sebastian booked a cab, and at around twenty minutes later they stood in front of a huge laboratory. "When you said you knew a guy, I thought he lived in a dungeon or something, not a proper lab worker." Christian scoffed.
"Why a dungeon"? Sebastian frowned.
"I dunno, maybe just the way you said. You made it seem like you were some trouble teenager doing drugs and he was your supplier" Christian chuckled.
"Well, the first half of that statement is true," Sebastian confirmed. "Let's go", he mumbled to a stunned Christian.
"I am here to see Charlie Fitz," Sebastian informed the secretary. She asked him his name, called the concerned party and showed them the way.  
When they entered the upper half of the  person was covered behind the computer. On an approximation, Christian noticed the person had very short hair, which gave her a typical tomboyish appearance. Christian halted and grabbed Sebastian's arm, making him halt as well. "I thought you said you know a guy"? He whispered.
"Well, Charlie is gender-fluid. It's hard to tell which pronoun she prefers at which time, so please refrain from using any. Or even better, keep your mouth shut. Don't talk at all". Sebastian instructed.
"Stuff like this should be mentioned earlier don't you think"? Christian huffed back at him.
"I can hear you". A grave voice answered them from behind the computer and looked up. "Hey Seb, long time no see" while her/his greeting seemed pleasant, the lack of any smile, even a faint one gave kind of creepy vibes.
"Hi" Sebastian however smiled back. "Believe in or not I kind of got caught in a family mess".
"I thought you have no family".
"They are dead, yes, but they had connections which came back to bite me in the a**. Which is why it is very much annoying. Can you do me favor?"  
"Depends. What it is"?  
"Well, I have this drug, which I have no idea about. Can you determine what it is"?  
"Why do you have access to unknown drugs"? Charlie frowned. For the first time in their conversation she/he showed any particular emotion. It even took Christian by surprise.
"It's part of the whole mess". Sebastian sighed. "Can you help me or not"?
"No"
Sebastian sighed with defeat with downright rejection, while Christian couldn't help but feel that their entire trip was nothing but a waste. "Didn't you tell me you owe me one when I helped you with that police officer? You said you would be happy to return the favor". Sebastian reminded her/him.
Charlie looked up from her computer, which could be mistaken for a glare, except that was her regular expression. "Alright". Sebastian smiled and handed her/him the packet. "Only trace amounts"? Sebastian nodded at Charlie.  
She took the door that was behind her study and welcomed the duo along with her/him. After putting it on the machine and doing something on the computer she/he stood still as all of them awaited the results.
After a moment a lot of information piled up that was a little hard to decipher by Sebastian and Christian, so Charlie translated it for them. But first, she/he needed a moment to recover from the shock. "Why do you have this"? The concerned tone on her/his voice was not missed.
"Someone gave it to me, like mixed it in my drinks"?
"Alcoholic"?
"Obviously" Sebastian scoffed.
"Accidentally"?
"No, on purpose". Sebastian informed her/him.  
Charlie sighed, before advising, "Well then you should file complaint for attempted murder cause it's a miracle that you are alive".
"Why"? Sebastian asked. Both Christian and Sebastian were surprised and gazed at each other before they looked at Charlie with curious gaze for further information.
"Two years ago, Weig Pharmaceuticals were developing a drug officially labelled as W-III, but few of the developers gave it the nickname 'Worenzine'. It was a type of benzodiazepine. It was supposed to help with insomnia, but it failed the trials when it ended up killing almost each and every guinea pig after two weeks of constant administration. We studied the drug in lower doses and all. Even a little bit will kill you, even if it kills you late. At least if you are a guinea pig".
"Whaaaat"? For the very first time Christian raised his voice since he stepped into this room.
"How do you know so much about it? Do they publish so many details for an experiment"? Sebastian asked her, ignoring Christian's comment.
"I was invited to be part of that project, but I left midway". Charlie declared.
"Why?"
"Doesn't concern you. Now you got what you wanted, feel free to leave". She showed them the door.
"Hold on a sec. Do you know how they can still be accessible?" Sebastian asked. "I have it, so clearly someone is smuggling them".
"I don't have that much data. I left midway, remember"? Charlie raised an eyebrow. "But, I will see what I can find. I will mail you the details."
"Thanks. I would appreciate that very much". Said Sebastian in gratitude. He motioned his head to the door to Christian, asking him to follow. After exiting the building Sebastian looked in his phone and informed Christian, "Well, our return flight isn't for at least six hours. We got some time to kill".  
"What do you wanna do"? Christian asked.
"I…" Sebastian thought for a moment. "Let's go back to my apartment. I need to freshen up". He declared and booked a cab.  
"Well, that was something, but was that really helpful"? Christian asked while they waited for the cab to show up.
"That was something. Let's wait for Charli's email and see what he got for us". Sebastian shrugged.
The apartment was situated in a pretty much busy area for someone who claimed to be 'popular'. The apartment however was at the top of a 20 storey building with 2 deluxe bedrooms and great area coverage. Even if Christian was rich, he lived in a town, so the standard of living varied from that of a city boy. He couldn't help but ask the other, "Do you own this place or rent this place"?
"I own it" Sebastian mumbled before throwing him a towel and a pair of black pants and a blue T-shirt. "You are about my size, so that should fit you. Feel free to use the bathroom in the guest room." He pointed at the guest room. "It will be a long day, you should freshen up".  He declared before disappearing.
Despite going later, Christian was first to emerge from the room to the dining hall. The busy pack life has made him quite accustomed to getting his things done quickly.
While he sat there waiting for nothing in particular, he opened up the fridge to find something to eat, but he was ironically shocked to see it completely stocked. Before he could take anything out he heard a noise of beeping from the front door. Christian went there and was surprised to see a woman in her mid 30s taking her shoes off.
She froze the moment she noticed Christian and mirrored the confused yet alert expression on her face. Each of them were worried that the other was a thief and were ready to attack each other. "Hey Wendy" a voice from Christian's back broke the tension.
Sebastian stood there, smiling while the disheveled wet hair gave him a fresh look. Seeing how the owner of the place was inside the home, her expression softened. She bowed slightly before going inside to do her work. "Who is she"? Christian asked skeptically.
"What does it look like"? Sebastian shot back. "She keeps my apartment clean when I am not around". Christian's expression softened a little bit once he heard that. "Why"?  
"Nothing, I was just worried someone followed us. Honestly, whoever this criminal is starting to scare me. Never did it ever take us this long to catch someone." Christian informed.
Sebastian chose not to comment on it and provided him with a glass of water and an apple. "Let's get something to eat before we leave".  
"What about her''? Christian asked, pointing at the cleaning lady.
"What about her"? Sebastian asked back. "You want to invite her as well"? Sebastian scoffed.
"No! I meant… never mind. Let's go" Christian shook his head. There was no point in arguing with this guy, and he was way too drained right now to care about these things. He also had to worry about all the disaster that awaited them if they didn't figure things out soon. This time, Christian was shocked that instead of calling a cab he decided to walk. Turns out the place for eating was quite near, and very well familiar and fond of Sebastian.


Ashton is an Alpha who hides who he is due to the fear of being feared, and Caleb is an omega who hides his identity since he hates the way omegas are mistreated. Both of them gave up on the thought of ever having a relationship, even if they find their fated mates.

What happens when these two meet and their biggest secrets unfold. Will this bring them closer? Can they fight their feelings despite not wanting to?

Barrons had told Christian to meet us at the bookstore in an hour to give me time to finish throwing up and brush my teeth. I had gone out and gotten a second tooth brush and managed to scrounge up a second tube of toothpaste to keep in the lair after the first morning, while also seeing what maternity clothes were still left in abandoned stores. He'd given Kat the same message, telling Christian to pick her up. They were instructed to come back to Barrons's study.
I was wonderfully surprised to see that Kat had brought her daughter Rae with her. She held a very special place in my heart for having healed my father when Winter had abducted and poisoned him in an effort to get me to hand over the remaining elixir that had made the Fae immortal. Rae curtsied to me, having insisted upon learning how, before I scooped her up into a hug.
"Mac," I had insisted she call me that, "if you're the queen, why don't you wear a crown? Don't you have one?"
"Of course I do," I told her. "I just keep it in Faery and I only wear it for very special occasions."
"Will you take me to Faery with you someday?" she whispered slyly in my ear. "Da won't take me even though I'm half Fae." The kid was smart. My guess was no one had expressly told her that, but at six years old she had already figured it out. "I promise I'll be good."
"Someday," I assured her because it was her birthright, "when you're a bit older and if your mom and dad say it's okay, I'll take you on a tour of Faery myself. But you'd have to pinky swear to stay right by my side." Dani and I had convinced her it was the most solemnest of vows. "Faery can be a dangerous place and parents worry about their kids because they love them."
Some things you just know for a fact without being able to fully understand them or needing to. Parents worry out of love. I knew that. Planes fly. Knew that, too. I didn't understand how, but I knew planes fly usually without incident. Something to do with lift, I think. You worry about someone because you care about them. What I didn't understand yet was how deeply parents can worry about their children. Barrons once hacked my laptop and responded to emails from my parents when I was in Faery.
Before I sang the Song of Making and basically hit a reset button to restore the earth's magic, time in Faery had been unpredictable. Dani was gone from earth for less than two months; it was five and a half years for her. Christian was missing for a few months, but spent years lost in the Silvers. My first trip to Faery had only been a few hours, a single afternoon, for me. When I got back, Barrons informed me I had been missing for over a month. I was both grateful and deeply upset he had done that when he told me. I would eventually only be grateful.
"When is someday?" She wanted a firm commitment. Again, smart as a whip.
"We'll discuss it when you turn seven." When her parents said no, I would tell her we would discuss it again when she turned eight and so on until Sean and Kat said yes. Time is unbearable for kids and seems to drag on for forever, but she'd always have something to look forward to. I also wasn't taking her there without their permission. Hopefully they'd okay it when she's a teenager so she doesn't spend her entire childhood yearning to return. As I'd hoped, it was enough of a firm commitment for her.
"Pinky swear?" She was still whispering in my ear conspiratorially.
I grinned and entwined my pinky with her little one. "Pinky swear."
When I put her down, Kat said, "Rae, why don't you go play with the lemurs?" The little girl curtsied again at the door before skipping away. "Mac, what did you just promise her?"
"I promised her we could discuss her coming with me to visit Faery when she turns seven." When Kat looked horrified—she clutched the crucifix she wore around her neck—I quickly said, "I never promised her I would take her, just that we would discuss it. Kat, I agree she's far too young to visit Faery, but I will fight for her to visit when she's older. It's her birthright. And when she does visit, I told her I'd take her on a tour myself and that she'd have to pinky swear to never leave my side. She'll be perfectly safe with of us."

*She won't be a little kid anymore. And Masdann's is the only court you ever let me visit without you so of course you're coming with.*
*That's because Masdann is the only trustworthy member of your bloody courts.*
*You're just saying that because he was made from your essence. Sean and Christian are trustworthy, too. As is Inspector Jayne.*
*To an extent, yes. But if it came down between choosing you and Kat and Rae or you and Lyryka or you and Jayne's family, they'd choose their women and children. Masdann has pledged his undying loyalty to you.*
*I thought you hated words*, I purred back sweetly.
*I do. They're dangerous. Don't think I didn't notice how you evaded promising to take Rae to Faery. I don't need his pledge to know he'll forever remain loyal to you. A part of my essence resides in him. That's all I need to know where your safety is concerned.*
"Ahem." Kat cleared her throat. Neither her nor Christian heard any part of our conversation but knew we were having one.
"Sorry," I quickly muttered before I hugged Kat in greeting. She regarded me with those cool grey eyes and I did my best to hide whatever distress and worry and fear I was feeling, although I was pretty sure she had felt them the moment she had entered my bookstore with her *sidhe*-seer gift of emotional empathy.
I immediately turned to Christian who bowed to his queen in greeting, saying, "Mac."
"Christian," I said with a nod and a smile. It was good to see them both, especially since I had been avoiding people for the past several weeks.
He turned to Barrons and extended his hand. There was a grin on his Highlander face. "Barrons."
"Not your fucking tribe," he growled, but he still shook Christian's hand.
Christian turned back to me and said, "You summoned us?"
"We have a bit of a problem," I said, wincing a little. Barrons shot me a look that I ignored. I took a deep breath before I said, "I'm pregnant." Both looked slightly stunned for a moment before their faces lit up and they began to congratulate us.
"What's the problem?" Kat asked.
"It shouldn't be possible," I told her before quickly summarizing my dream and implying children weren't something that was supposed to be possible.
"Who's is it?" Christian asked, understanding what I had implied. It took Kat a moment to grasp it.
"Mine," Barrons growled and I quickly explained how certain we were of that.
"Aye, I could see how that could complicate things," Christian said with a nod. "That still doesn't explain why you've summoned us."
"Kat, I need a midwife," I told her. "Specifically someone I know I can trust. I know it's a lot to ask and you've got less than a year to learn, but do you think you could learn whatever you need to learn in time to deliver a baby?"
"Och, and you do ask a lot," she said softly. "I don't know, Mac. There could be any number of complications I wouldn't be prepared for."
"All you'd have to worry about is keeping the baby alive," I reminded her. "Childbirth can't kill me. We think. We're pretty sure. Please, Kat. We found a doctor who was able to verify I was pregnant and can do all of the necessary pregnancy checkups, but we need someone we already know we can trust to deliver the baby."
"I can try, Mac," she said with some determination. "But you might want to have that doctor on standby just in case."
"Thank you," I gushed as I hugged her again, feeling another weight lifting.
"Please don't tell me you want me to assist," Christian said warily. There was a rattle in Barrons's chest and I shot him a look.
"Definitely not," I assured him. "I need information. No one knows the Seelie better than the Keltar. Any history you have on births among Fae royalty."
"I can see what I can find out," he said hesitantly. "But you also have Fae records from the True Magic, don't you?"
"Yes, but too many to navigate. Not to mention I don't actually have the entirety of the Fae history and the Light court no longer have those memories. There's only one person who now has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the entirety of Fae history from the Fae perspective."
"No," he immediately said. "We promised her her freedom and I swore an oath to protect her. I'm including her freedom in that oath."
We'd been afraid of this response so Barrons had reactivated the wards that prevented anyone from sifting in or out of the bookstore, excluding me by working my blood into them.
When Christian tried to leave through the door, he found an immovable, obdurate mountain of a man blocking his way. Christian regarded him icily and the temperature started to drop. "If that was Mac out there, you'd make the same call."
"If that were Mac out there, I wouldn't be here to make that call," Barrons said softly.
Christian hadn't gone with Lyryka as she explored so she could truly feel free, despite the fact that it was evident to everyone he had fallen in love with her and she was enamored with him.
It was a bit of a low blow.
I warmed the area around me as Kat moved further away from Christian before saying, "We're in uncharted waters, Christian. She's free to return to her travels as soon as I have the answers I need."
"And if she can't provide you with the answers you need?" He was talking over his shoulder.
I narrowed my eyes at him. "I'm not going to punish her if that's what you're suggesting."
"It wasn't."
"Then she'll still be free to return to her explorations. No harm done."
He bristled as he rounded on me, his voice filled with quiet fury. "Just because you're the bloody Queen of the Fae doesn't mean the world revolves around you, Mac. The rest of us have needs, too. You can't do something just because it amuses or pleases you."
Another low blow. He was more or less comparing me to what the Fae used to be.
"Mac can do whatever the bloody fuck she wants, queen or otherwise," Barrons said softly. I shot him a graphic image of how I would later thank him for always defending me. I received a look that made me bite my lip and almost go weak in the knees.
"I've written her a note," I said after I gave him a minute to calm down. Or maybe to calm myself down. "It says that I need her help and I'm requesting she temporarily return. And that you'll be picking her up and bringing her here five minutes after I send it."
He looked positively mutinous.
"She's never been here before, Christian! Would you prefer she hurt herself when she hits the wards by trying to come directly into the bookstore?"
He finally let me send the note fifteen minutes later.

It had been almost ten years since Barrons’s son had been here. There was still a stain on the ground from where he had ripped out my throat and I had bled out multiple times as my body had worked to restore itself. 

“I’m sorry,” I said softly as I felt the earth offer and begin to replenish me. He shifted closer and took my hand. “I don’t like this room, either.”

“Just hurry up and replenish, Mac,” he told me. “That stain on the floor forces me to remember watching you repeatedly die. It’s filling me with the need to fuck you.”

I smiled and laid my head on his shoulder as I said, “Everything fills you with the need to fuck me.”

He snorted a laugh and slanted me a look, saying, “Yes, because nothing makes you want to take me anywhere, anytime. Remembering holding you as you repeatedly bled out shortly after you admitted you should have voluntarily fucked me *really* fills me with the need to fuck you.” I was chuckling by the time he got to the end of his sentence and I opened my eyes to see him smiling down at me. 

I smiled back up at him before I said, “It’s been—what? almost ten years since I stumbled into the bookstore?”

“Something like that.”

“It’s been almost ten years since I met you,” I said as I squeezed his hand. My voice was just above a whisper. “Ten years and I am still ripped-down-raw in love with you, Jericho Barrons.”

Barrons was exultant, and I couldn’t breathe when I saw something I’d only seen once before in his eyes: joy. The only other time I’d seen it was when I’d lied to him because I wanted him to have some peace of mind. He’d known I was lying but hadn’t cared; I’d lied because I loved him. 

“These past ten years with you have been the best of my life,” he told me and I preened as I grinned; he’d lived a very long life.

“I want it to always be like this,” I told him. “I at least want to always feel this way when I look at you.”

“What do you feel, Rainbow Girl?” 

“Complete,” I said after a moment of thought so I could find the right word. 

He was still exultant when he leaned down and kissed me, tender at first before growing hot and hungry.

“I seriously need to fuck you now, Mac,” he growled.

“Soon,” I assured him.

I preened a little when I thought about what he was looking at: a Barbie-lookalike he knew had knives hidden all over her with the Spear of Destiny and a gun holstered to her legs, rounds of ammunition in her pockets and belt.

A woman ready for anything and anyone that came at her. A woman he’d trained to be ready for anything. A woman who could drive him bugfuck crazy and was deeply and firmly embedded under his skin.

The woman who had been prepared to remake the world for him. The woman who existed outside of all rules for him. The mother of his child.

His beast saw its mate, a monster who could turn off every emotion so she could do what needed to be done.

Barrons saw his sun, moon, and stars. 

His Rainbow Girl. 

*His* woman.

Nana, reeking of ale, entered the temple with a few dozen guards. He glanced at the bodies strewn on the ground and frowned, shaking his head.
The believers in the temple were not all killed. There were two wounded: one had a puncture wound on his stomach, and another lost his leg. The woman was tending their wounds, her expression cold and distant.
Nana walked over to the woman and asked respectfully, "my lady, are you hurt?"
The woman shook her head, and her attention did not shift away from the wounded man. She did not say any spells, but her hands were glowing green. The gentle glow covered the wounded men’s bodies and disappeared into the wounds.
Anfey stood there quietly. He already knew that the woman was very important, or else Goddess of Nature’s followers would have not attacked. Nana’s attitude towards her only confirmed his suspicion.
Nana turned to Anfey and frowned. "Who are you?" he asked coldly. "Where did you come from?"
Niya lifted her brow and was about to say something. Anfey took a step forward and waved his hand at Niya behind his back. "We are from Mambo Territory, my lord," he said politely. Anfey already knew what Nana’s intentions were when he pretend he did not know who they were. Goddess of Nature’s followers had great influence in this city, powerful enough to make Nana worried about the consequences. He needed to make it clear that he had nothing to do with the people who committed murder in the temple. This way, if he was trying to protect Anfey, Niya, Christian, and Suzanna, he wouldn’t be called biased. If he made it apparent that he was acquainted with them, and was protecting them, it would cause troubles.
"Do you have proof?"
"Yes, my lord," Anfey said. He found a piece of paper and handed it to Nana.
Nana took the paper and studied it carefully. It was just a random piece of paper, but Nana appeared very serious. He handed the paper back to Anfey after a few minutes.
"Tell me what happened," Nana said to Christian.
"You see, my lord, we just wanted to check the temple out. We heard it was a beautiful place, you see. That woman talked to us, then this bear attacked us for some reason. Then all these people appeared out of nowhere. We had no choice, my lord. We were being attacked."
Nana nodded and turned to the woman. "Is that true, my lady?" he asked the woman.
"It is true," the woman said without looking up.
Nana frowned. He thought the woman would deny her involvement, and her reaction took him by surprise.
"Are you sure, my lady?" Nana asked again.
The woman did not say anything, and kept treating her patients.
"I have to let them go free, then," Nana said.
"They are free all along," the woman said.
Nana frowned. He felt like the woman knew all along his relation to the four people standing there. He thought about his actions and did not find any mistakes. He turned to Anfey.
"Can we go now, my lord?" Anfey asked. He knew that the woman’s reaction must have something to do with Great Nature Power and Messenger of Gods.
"Alright," Nana said, waving his hand. "Let them go."
The guards made way for the four of them. Niya followed Anfey, and before she left she turned and glared at Nana. She did not understand why Nana was being so cold towards her.
"My lady, do you need any help?" Nana asked.
"No need. This is our business."
"But all these bodies…"
"It is our business," the woman said calmly. "Not yours."
"Alright," Nana said and shrugged.
Anfey and Christian’s room was still and quiet. Suddenly, the small box on Anfey’s bed shook. Then the lid opened slowly. A small, golden figure climbed out of the box. She had two small, light blue gemstones on her head. That was her eyes, and they were shining eerily. Her head swiveled around as if she could really see what was in the room. Then she jumped from the bed and onto a nearby table. She walked over to the water bowl and knocked on it. The water bowl vibrated and buzzed.
The figure jumped onto the water bowl and tried to open the bowl’s lid with her fingerless hands without success. She stood there for a few seconds, then she jumped onto the lid and placed her lyre by the opening of the bowl. A colorless liquid poured out of her lyre and into the water.
After the liquid was poured into the water, the golden figure jumped back onto the bed and lifted the lid. She settled back into the box and closed the lid behind her. The room returned to stillness, as if nothing had happened.
After a while, Anfey and Christian walked into the room. Niya and Suzanna followed them.
"You two should get some rest," Anfey said, sitting down on his bed. He took a piece of hair off of the box and blew it away.
"Alright," Suzanna said, nodding.
"What is that?" Niya asked curiously, staring at the box in Anfey’s hand.
"It’s a gift for Master Saul," Anfey said.
"Can I look at it?" Niya asked.
"You’ll see it soon."
Niya rolled her eyes and stamped her foot.
Everyone would become numb to the sight of blood after a while. Getting used to uncomfortable situations was vital for human survival. Even Niya was already used to death and did not let what happened in the temple bother her.
Anfey smiled but did not say anything.
"There’s got to be good things in there," Niya said, turning to Suzanna. "Don’t you think?"
"Let’s go get some rest, Niya," Suzanna said, smiling. She was not as curious as Niya was, and dragged Niya out of the room with her.
Niya sighed. The two were very different from each other. When Suzanna was facing enemies, she was murderous and violent, but when she wasn’t, she was calm and quiet. Niya was usually quiet when facing an enemy, but outgoing and lively when she was with people she knew.
"Be careful tonight, Suzanna," Anfey called.
"Don’t worry," Suzanna said.
Seeing that Niya and Suzanna had left the room, Anfey opened the box slowly and saw that the golden figure was still standing there, playing with her lyre.
"Let me see," Christian said.
"Tomorrow," Anfey said, closing the lid.
"How selfish," Christian said, shaking his head. He walked over to the water bowl and reached towards it.
Anfey reached over and grabbed the bowl before Christian could. "What are you doing?" Christian asked.
"I’m thirsty," Anfey said. He raised the bowl to his lips and drank directly from it.
"What are you doing?" Christian asked, his eyes wide. "Personal hygiene, Anfey."
Anfey didn’t say anything. He suddenly choked on the water and coughed violently. Christian walked over and patted him on the back.
Anfey waved his hand. "I’ll be fine," he said, setting the bowl on the table. "You thirsty?"
Christian looked the pot and shook his head. "I’m going to ask for another bowl."
"Oh yes, Christian," Anfey said. "I saw a bird cage on the second floor just then, with two birds in it. Can you go grab it?"
"Those are the owner’s birds, right? What do you want with them?"
"I like birds," Anfey said. "Tell the owner I’ll just play with them for a bit. I’ll return them tomorrow."
Christian frowned. "Fine," he said, shrugging. "I’ll go ask, but I promise nothing."
"Don’t worry. They will let me. We are, after all, the city lord’s friend," Anfey said with a smile.
