I was three months into making the Strength Of A Hundred seal and a year out of the Academy.
Things were going well, I spent plenty of time with my mom, Duy and Gai.
And my training was going well.
But my latest foray into medical ninjutsu had met with great success.
I had diverted a little chakra that was meant for the seal and used it to run the Diagnostic Jutsu on different people.
People like Kushina and myself with healing factors have an abundance of stem cells that are responsible for the regeneration of any injury that occurs.
Normal people still have stem cells but to a much lesser extent then Kushina and I.
I believe that as long as my stem cells can continue to divide and replace any of my dying cells, I'll probably never die.
Your cells could only divide a certain amount of times before they die, that's essentially what aging is.
As long as I have stem cells available my body won't deteriorate in the same way a normal body would with aging…
So, I had an exciting thought, could I become biologically immortal if I found a way to keep my stem cells young?
I remembered something from my old world.
People were injecting stem cells into injured areas to heal the injury quickly.
Mainly because their body's natural cells didn't divide enough to heal the injury by itself, so, the introduction of new cells speeds up healing as they have a higher capacity to divide.
My body could be as young as my stem cells…

My main problem was the retracting and extending of the claws.
It could probably be done with chakra…

So, claws from the wrists or backhand…
But how do I stop them from being ripped from my hands upon contact with something hard…
After all it would only be a thin layer of flesh and muscle holding them there…
Unless I somehow made them part of the tibia or fibula…
Then again, they shouldn't get caught on anything if they are used carefully…

We went out of the study and proceeded to the dining area. The food was already prepared on the table so I went to assist Sophie to her seat. She smiled at me and sat down I also went to my seat which was at the other end of the table, which was annoying. 

I took my seat and smiled to Sophie. "Let's eat elder sister, I have something to discuss with you later."

"You can say it while we eat brother, so it will not be to silent while we eat. It kinda feels lonely if there are no sounds at all." Said Sophie.

We started eating our food while I started the conversation.

I nodded. "Alright. By the way elder sister for the next meal can we be seated nearer? You know it is kinda weird if we eat with just the two us yet the distance is so large. And when we took it is very awkward, because we need to raise our voices."

"You are right I will tell them after so we can be closer when we eat. I like that we are closer when we eat." Said Sophie.

I smiled at Sophie letting her know of my ideas for the house. "Elder sister, I have some ideas so the house will be able to keep operating. But I will need startup funds for the business."

"What kind of business would that be brother?" Asked Sophie.

I started explaining. "It is a new kind of food that I would like to introduce along with it is a new beverage. I am sure that it will be likeable by the commoners and even the nobles."

"Really? Then you can have the access to the money of the house brother. I trust you. I would also like to have a taste of it first if it is really as you say." Sophie said excitedly.

I nod my head saying. "Thank you for the trust elder sister. I promise I will not let you down. After lunch, I will ask Katrina to bring some other servants with her to buy things needed to make the food and beverage."

"Alright brother." Said Sophie happily.

After the conversation we were almost done with our lunch. Finishing up I called upon Katrina to instruct her on the things to buy. I specified to her the ingredients needed for a beef patty and also ingredients for making a hamburger bread. I also asked her to look for grapes and apple so I can make the juice drinks accompanying  the burger. Katrina then called a few other servants and went out.

I turned around and saw Sophie waiting for me. "Elder sister have you been waiting there all the time?"

"Yes, I was happy seeing you that way. It seems that my brother is really smart." She smiled.

I smiled back at her. "I just know a few things. So what are you gonna do now elder sister?"

"Nothing much, I do not much things in a day. Even in the morning it was like that." She said with difficulty.

Looking at Sophie I started thinking. (It seems that my dearest sister's daily life was really lonely. With no one to spend with it was even more sad. I need to change her mindset. Maybe if I give her a goal then she would be much more livelier.)

I said to Sophie. "Then why don't you  join me in training elder sister?"

"Training? Why do you keep on training Kei?" She asked.

I smiled then said. "I train to become strong. If I am strong then I can protect what is precious to me. I can protect you."

"Really you would?" Asked Sophie.

I nodded at her. "Yes I will. Well, why don't I show you so you would know, it is better for you to see with your own eyes what I can do after I trained."

I took her hand and led her to the courtyard. Vanessa followed behind us. After we arrived she stood at the side and I started warming up. A few minutes of warm up then I was ready.

I looked at Sophie. " I will start now elder sister watch closely."

"Mmm." She replied.

I started with a slow run, then accelerated slowly. I ran to the wall of the courtyard gaining speed. I can hear the gasped and screams of Sophie and Vanessa. As I reached the wall, I did a vertical wall run the followed by back flip. Without rest I dashed again along side the wall did horizontal wall run then a side flip. I continued with a series of flips and rolls. I made it even more artistic so I would catch the attention of the two. Continuing, I did my free running on the wall trees and as a finale I ran up the wall to the 2nd floor balcony then did a flip from the 2nd floor landing with a roll then stood up just a few meters in front of Sophie.

I smiled at Sophie and asked. "Well, what do you think?"

Both Sophie and Vanessa were wide eyed and their mouths were both wide open. It seemed that they were shocked. I cannot blame them, even in the modern times free running even leaves people's mouth hanging, what more in this era.

"Wow! How did you do that brother?!" Asked Sophie after blanking out for a few seconds.

I said to Sophie with a bright smile. "Training elder sister, training. With training you can do things that you have not done before. You can push your body to the limit and do things normal people cannot do."

"You mean that if I also train I can do that also?!" Sophie asked while her eyes were sparkling.

I nod and said "Yes you can." (She took the bait!)

I wished for a new life. I read novels everyday. While I'm reading, I always Imagine myself as a character in the novel. I always think, what would I do if that was me? If i was given the opportunity, what road would I take?

This follows my imagination so whatever I think I will write.

        Class has been simple to teach for Professor Bodwin. Previously forced by the institute to follow a general course of physics and its historical figures - something the professor enjoyed deeply - Bodwin has since been tasked with the monumental job of providing closure to the Peakview high-school students about the Flip. Something that, admittedly, was incomparably more enjoyable after all of these years spent teaching well-minded university students the same repetitive curriculum. For the first time, entire classrooms had been eager to hear what she had to say.
        That didn't stop the students from being incompetent, though, and there was the heightened challenge of some students no longer trusting in the words being preached by scientific figure-heads. It took an entire session before Bodwin's 61 Freshmen fully grasped the concept of the "Sidewalk Observation", the explanation that Bodwin herself spearheaded. 1 student who was no older than Bodwin's only child was adamant that it wasn't the sunlight that sped up time, it was the heat energy. Professor Bodwin debunked this fallacy with the simple demonstration - microwaving her breakfast that she hadn't been granted the liberty of eating because of the waves of questions she's had since class began. It only took 45 seconds for her breakfast to become fully cooked, same as before the Flip.
        The challenging student sighed, and went back to his reclusive, non-participating ways, same as before the Flip. In reality, the Microwave demonstration isn't a good experiment, as the heat isn't coming from the sun directly, but Bodwin and her colleagues looked extensively into this theory days ago, and it sure as hell has nothing to do with heat. Bodwin just wanted breakfast.
        One of the few inherently intelligent students of Bodwin had some information to share, rather than questions to pose. With his hoodie over his bald head, he raised his hand. Bodwin points to the boy with the raised hand, fighting to get the words out with the food in her mouth. "What do you have for us, Mason?" He lowers his hand to his hood, and slips it off, revealing a pair of sunglasses resting on top of his head. "Maybe it has something to do with UV light. I was wearing these in the sun yesterday, and it offered a unique experience for a short time. My body became Crimson, but my vision was that of a Shroud, though the scenario only lasted about 3 seconds, slightly longer than the riptide itself. I don't see much of an advantage, because my eyes and feedback in general processed slower than my basic motor functions, but it could prove UV blocked by the glasses to be the culprit."
        The professor thought for about 2 seconds, but waited to respond for another 5 seconds in an attempt to not discourage other students from thinking they themselves might have good ideas. "On the first day, my colleagues and I ran UV experiments, and found that UV blockers - sun screen, sun glasses - have 0 effect on someone in terms of preventing them from becoming Crimson." Mason sat, mouth open, but with no words forming before Bodwin could finish her reasoning. "What you've experienced, Mason, is what we've coined as Crimson Delay." Bodwin takes a napkin out of the paper bag that previously housed her packed breakfast, and holds it above a glass of water sitting on her wooden desk. "Though we don't know what energy in the sunlight causes Crimson behavior, we do know that the energy transfers with Capillarity." Bodwin dips one small corner of her napkin into the glass of water, and the whole class watches as the water is absorbed, and slowly climbs up the napkin, seemingly defying gravity. Soon, the entire napkin is wet, despite only one corner being dipped into the glass.
        "The process of becoming Crimson is sort of like capillary action. We are the napkin. The water is the sunlight's mysterious energy. Going from dry to wet is going from Shroud to Crimson. The time it takes, and the imbalance that develops is called the riptide. Some napkins tear in half under its own weight before the entire napkin is soaked, similar to some unhealthy humans and animals not being able to withstand the riptide." Bodwin takes a moment to scan the class, assuring they're still listening; Muscle memory from before the Flip. "This action explains why anything from our fingernails, our brains, all the way to the deepest parts of our digestive tracts become Crimson, despite not being in direct sunlight. This defines why you can wear a t-shirt, or a hat, and still become Crimson. If you wore enough layers of clothes, that capillary action would be insufficient, not just delayed, in transforming someone into a Crimson, and they would remain a Shroud whilst in the sun." During her demonstration, Mason, and other lesser students were writing down as much as they could in their notebooks.
        The questions kept coming, and finally a scenario that forced Bodwin to exit autopilot and contemplate. A dark-skinned girl in the front row nearest Bodwin's 3 uniquely inscribed chalkboards, scribbled with further explanation of capillarity and wavelength illustrations, pointed out that nobody could know for sure that this is the first time a "Flip" has occurred.
        The girl leaned forward in her chair, "A possible explanation for previous civilizations advancing much quicker than they should have; The Mayans, for example, could be related to that civilization becoming Crimson." The professor, for the first time since these classes began, was faced with a scenario in which she didn't already explore herself. Perhaps Bodwin had been so focused on the problems in front of her, she hadn't had the time to look over her shoulder towards the past. With chalk in her left hand, her right arm raises towards the ceiling, branching off into a thumbs-up.
        Taking off her glasses briefly to clean the left lens, "This, class, is the type of query we need to be indulging in." Bodwin scans the blurry faces of her students from left to right, and puts her glasses back on. "A type of question that isn't asked out of scientific doubt, or out of fear. A type of question that isn't meant to incite a following simply because you want to be in the history books alongside Einstein. A type of question... We can't cook up with a microwave oven."
        Bodwin sits down for the first time in days, and lets out a sigh of relief. "Keep going." The girl in the front row leans back in her seat, "What do you mean?" Bodwin waves her hand sarcastically at the girl, with little effort, "Develop your theory, Kat!"
        Having 60 pairs of eyes on her, with the rare addition of Professor Bodwin's mile-long stare, Kat felt sweat drip down her lower back. Maybe it was due to the powerful lights near the front of class meant to illuminate the professor, or her grey, long-sleeved sweater. Whatever she told herself to distract from the obvious notion of stage fright, it seemed to help, and she stood up from her seat in an attempt to seem more confident. Kat knew the dissociation some people had with science speakers, so she had to boast her ideas quickly.
        "Well, uhm..." Kat closed her eyes for at least 4 seconds to glue together a cohesive thought. "The Mayan people were excellent mathematicians for their time. They were master builders, despite a treacherous environment. An impermeable environment that seems like an impossible task to deforest and construct within, especially with more primitive tools. Mayans built at least 30 ritualistic pyramids, and hundreds of similar structures, with roads stretching for miles; all before they discovered the wheel."
        Kat paused for a moment before recognizing Bodwin's gaze deeming her to continue. "The idea of a pyramid itself could be seen as a Crimson structure... Building a thing so tall, with exterior staircases that reach above the ocean of trees... It seems as if they were trying to remain Crimson for more hours of the day. The tree canopy would force them to be Shrouds, but the pyramids would rise above the canopy at all times, lowering the horizon, temporarily delaying the inevitable sunset."
        At this point, Kat abandoned confidence entirely, and was too scared to glance behind her at the class, so she made eye contact with her notebook and continued developing. "Maybe the wheel wasn't necessary for transportation between cities because the deforested paths allowed them to be Crimson, and sped up the process of walking on foot? And a more efficient form of construction or increased manpower wasn't necessary to accomplish the feats of the Mayans, because Mayans had an efficient Crimson population. A population that had more time in a single lifetime to develop mathematics, experiment with medicines, and other sciences." After another short moment of silence, she pointed out the obvious parallel between early, advanced civilizations.
        "The Mayans also worshiped their sun god. Itzamna is correlated with this god, and Itzamna is credited by Mayan text to be responsible for teaching humans the crafts of writing and medicine. Human sacrifice became rampant, which could attribute to the Mayan's desperate attempt to convince the gods to give them back their Crimson powers after the gods had taken it away. Perhaps, if we lived 4,600 years ago, a Flip would've lead us to these beliefs as well. With no more Crimson efficiency, the Mayans were overpopulated, isolated from other pyramids and societies, and couldn't produce food as quickly. Assuredly, the Mayans went from sacrificing workers, to sacrificing leaders -- when that didn't work, there was no civilization left to pick up the pieces."
        The one-sided conversation ended with silence, and a faint "Whoa" at the back of the room. Bodwin was lost in the historical possibilities in her mind before her focus was brought back to the present by the perception of the rain pattering the closed window.
        Locating the girl by her oversized sweater, Bodwin points in her general direction as she consults the other 60 students, "See boys and girls, an eventual major in History isn't a complete waste of time!" The class anxiously laughs at the elitist comment, including Kat. Bodwin steps towards Kat who is now sitting in her chair, and squats down, with something in between a genuine question and a whisper. "So what about the Mayan calendar?" Kat, challenged, looks her professor in the eyes. "What about our calendar?" A short pause, and then a smile and squinted eyes creep onto Bodwin's face.
        The rain was fading away, becoming less noticeable as it pattered the window of the classroom, as if it was somehow being drowned out by the overwhelming silence of the classroom. Bodwin addressed all 61 students. "IF Kat's theory is true, that this isn't the first Flip in human history, we could assume that the Flip is finite, changing the world's current stance about what to do in the immediate future. This type of thinking is why I volunteered to do these classes, when my other colleagues felt their time could be spent more efficiently. I can go home tonight knowing that there are some very bright students here that I'l-..."
        Bodwin's wristwatch starts beeping, indicating that it is 3 o'clock, and class is over. Everyone stands up and gathers their notebooks and backpacks with a loud shuffle. The professor just smiles at the kids knowing there's no way to amplify herself enough to finish her sentence. They got the jist of it. As students begin to exit the class, she starts wheeling the various chalkboards to the corner of class near the window. As she's erasing the jumbled mess of chalk illustrations, a picture she previously drew of a stick figure wearing a shirt with rays of sunlight bouncing off catches her eye, and a thought begins to form. The idea is fleeting as Bodwin catches the students exiting campus out of the corner of her eye through the window. The rain has let up, the sun is shining, and she observers them as they walk away with Crimson speed.
        Before she has a chance to look away, another distraction catches her focus -- an out-of-place man, clean shaven with casual clothing, damp from the rain. Bodwin notes that the man appears to be writing down something as the students walk off campus. His unhesitating scribbling comes off as swift, even after Bodwin factors in her Shroud perspective.  If he's surveying the students, he's doing a poor job at hiding it, but the sunglasses he's sporting add difficulty in defining which students he's observing. She watches as a member of faculty approaches the man, a lesser professor who is still a Shroud from the shadow cast by Peakview itself. Before her fellow professor has a chance to become Crimson, the mysterious man takes notice of his slow approach.
        Prior to a proximity for small-talk, the mysterious man shoves his notepad into the back pocket of his blue jeans and walks to the street while speed is still in his favor. His other back pocket has a short wave antenna sticking out, which is rather unusual to the point that Bodwin questions what else it could possibly be. The faculty member stops short of the sunlight, spotting the man take off, knowing there isn't a need for an unnecessary riptide in his old body.
        Bodwin distinguishes the make of the vehicle that picks up the mysterious man, a basic white sedan. This is the first car Bodwin has seen on the road during daylight hours since the flip occurred, with the exception of several totaled pile-ups. The white sedan seemed to have some sort of apparatus covering all four wheels, and tinted windows, allowing the car to function well enough during the day - a custom job, she's sure of it. Anything more detail is too difficult to discern through the crowd of students exiting Peakview.
        Mere moments after cleaning up the mess of knowledgeable material left over from class, Professor Bodwin settles down at her desk. The lecture room door creaks open, "Professor?... I don't mean to bother you," Kat pushes the door open a few inches more, hands fully inside the sleeves of her sweater, "can I hangout with you until it gets dark?" Bodwin, caught off guard that Kat had words come out of her mouth without directly being asked to speak, "Of course, dear. Is everything alright?" Bodwin peaks out the window once more with subliminal paranoia of the mysterious man. Thereafter, she presumes the most likely context to be that Kat just doesn't fancy becoming Crimson. The student scrambles in, closing the door behind her, still clutching her journal, "Oh, yes! I'm just uh, waiting for some friends to get off work... They're sort of my ride." Despite never seeing Kat have any sort of friendship throughout the semester, Bodwin gives her the benefit of the doubt. Besides, it could be worse -- at least she's not babysitting the snotty kid she shut down with a microwave oven analogy.
        Unbelievably, Kat grabs a chair from the stack in the corner of the room, and drags it noisily until it sat adjacent to Bodwin's desk. She takes a seat, and criss-crosses her legs so neither are touching the floor. "Wasn't that something?!" Kat patiently urges a reply, before branching off, "I quite enjoyed the thought experiment we had today." Bodwin stared at the girl, and watched her lay down her journal, to then grab a granola bar out of her pocket that appeared to be previously unwrapped. Bodwin observed the strange behavior for too many seconds, deeming it unnatural to answer this late verbally -- she just gives an emphasized nod. Kat was probably used to people ignoring her anyway. Still, the act of not answering her question with much effort felt immoral in a way, like intentionally ignoring a homeless person when they beg for money.
        Burdened by awkward guilt, Bodwin warranted a more endearing response, "To be honest, your topic interested me more than others we talked about today. I've got a pile of papers to go through, so I'll be here for a while if you feel like bouncing more ideas off of me." Kat perked up at the offer, like during the original lecture, but with less sweating. She placed her half-eaten granola on Bodwin's desk, and started flipping through her journal. Words were pouring off the pages in each and every direction, and many blocks of text were written in varying colors of pen. The writing seemed to go on forever as she frantically thumbed through at least 15 pages of colorful thoughts. She finally stopped at a specific line of text, one that required her to swivel her journal sideways to read effectively. "I did some brainstorming last night. I think you'll like this one!" Kat ensured, with granola in her mouth and with light in her eyes.

A group of friends find their calling in a world in which an unusual flip in the laws of physics occurs. Since the Flip, time occurs twice as quickly for anything sunlight touches. From corporate and political rifts, to environmental changes and social divides, life only resembles what it used to be after the sun goes down.

He slept better after that, but woke not feeling very rested. He showered then shuffled into the kitchen. Nothing sounded good. Grabbing his trench coat and keys, he started to leave the apartment. Arolyn wrapped an arm around his waist. Parvathi set an arm across her shoulders and locked the apartment. They walked together to the store where Parvathi grabbed a protein drink.
"Do you want anything, Arolyn?" he asked softly.
She selected a green smoothie.
They walked through the check stand together then headed back towards campus. He stopped at the park and sat against a tree. Arolyn snuggled against his side while they drank their respective beverages. Parvathi ran his hand across her shoulders a little before pressing his fingers into her back. He pulled them up and down a small portion of her spine before rubbing her shoulders again. He did this a few times before she moaned and pulled away from him.
Parvathi wasn't feeling much more awake then he had when he got up. So, he stood and waited for Arolyn to join him before they returned to the apartment. He lay on the couch and Arolyn went into her room. He woke later to the sound of sniffling. He got up and entered the kitchen where Arolyn was sitting. Her shoulders were hunched forward and her head was bowed. On the table was a notepad. Parvathi set a hand at the base of her neck. His eyes would not yet focus.
"How are your shoulders doing, Arolyn?" he asked.
"Fine," she choked.
"Then what's wrong?"
She pushed the notepad in his direction then got up to dig into the fridge. He rubbed his eyes then picked up the notepad. His eyes scanned the list of past due bills and loan amounts. A few of the numbers were smudged where tears had fallen and soaked into the page. Then there was a massive red scribble on the bottom that put off a lot of anger. Tearing the page out, he pocketed it as Arolyn set two plates, with half a foot long on each, on the table. Parvathi did not protest her silent giving, but sat next to her and started to write out meal ideas. After a few ideas, he slid pen and pad towards Arolyn.
"Thank you for lunch, Arolyn."
She nodded.
After a while, she picked up the pen and added many ideas. She then pushed the list towards Parvathi. He glanced it over then nodded.
"Do you work today?" he asked.
"In twenty minutes."
"Okay."
"Do you have class today?" she asked.
"No, but I have some business to take care of this afternoon."
"I didn't know you worked."
"I don't consider it work, others might."
She nodded, the edges of her mouth turning down a little.
"It's nothing like that," he said. "Gifted Sister needs more assistance in her sphere of work."
"You have a sister?"
"Two." He pulled his fingers through her hair.
"I'm not your sister."
"When you are awake you will be. Good luck this afternoon. I'll see you this evening."
She nodded and finished her sandwich before running out the door.
Parvathi washed the dishes before pulling out his digital drawing pad and stylus. He made it soon after having his gifts woken up because it made documenting the changes he saw and felt easier to capture rather than trying to draw 20 pictures to scale when the main part didn't change.
There was someone who'd want the Crane Theatre pictures as well, but not just yet. He left Arolyn a note, asking her to put together a shopping list and a list of anything else she'd need as winter approached. Then he left, jogging down the street to an old cathedral where Gifted Sister picked him up. She drove them to the next town over where a hardy tree had suddenly become sickly. Gifted Sister had done everything she could in the realm of her gifts, but could tell she was not getting everything. That's where Parvathi's drawings came in. He pulled a face as they got out of the car.
'Dead animal?' Gifted Sister thought asked.
'Possibly. Has anything been buried here recently?'
'Not that I have found as I have fertilized it.'
He nodded then sat.
She knelt beside him as he drew the tree and surrounding area. This he saved before studying and feeling the tree—how its illness affected the elements around it. He drew. Saved. Drew something else. Saved again. This went on for a while before he let the pad flip through them like a flip animation book.
Gifted Sister watched carefully before she played it again. Her hand hovered over the pad. She paused it part way through.
'That's it.'
Parvathi nodded then changed the image to his original so he could draw the changes.
Gifted Sister stood and approached the tree. Slowly and carefully, she cut away the layers. The shifts were small and subtle until she got to the place where she could identify the problem. He started to draw when something in him screamed.
'Don't touch that!'
But it was too late. Gifted Sister was knocked to the ground, a black energy started to burn a hole through her chest. Parvathi dropped his pad and ran to her side. He flowed water through her system using metal to scrape away some of it; and earth and wood to fill in the space. He couldn't do much and the tree's energy was flaring out everywhere. They were too close to the tree. Lifting Gifted Sister in his arms, Parvathi hurried to the car. He kicked up his drawing pad into his hand on the way. The tree's energy was furious as he set her in her car. Parvathi sped back to campus, keeping water flowing through her system.
She broke out into a sweat and her breathing turned shallow as they entered town.
'Gifted Sister?'
She shook her head.
Parvathi parked at the apartments and pulled her from the car. He carried her into the apartment and laid her on the couch.
"Parvathi, is that…?" Arolyn stopped as he knelt over Gifted Sister and set his hands on her ribcage. She stood frozen for a moment, not sure what she was seeing.
'Come on, Gifted Sister,' Parvathi thought as he pulled away centimeters of the dark, burning energy. 'Hold on.'
Arolyn closed her eyes a moment and fisted her hand over her chest. "What is this feeling?" she asked. "Why…?" Her eyes returned to Gifted Sister before she stepped forward. Setting her hand on Parvathi's shoulder, she halted his work.
'Arolyn, I…'
She pulled him away from the couch and set his hands against her back. His thumbs pressed into the groove on either side of her spine. Arolyn groaned, but knelt beside Gifted Sister. Parvathi knelt also continuing to run his thumbs up and down her back. Arolyn slid a hand under her back and placed the other over her heart.
'Hold,' she thought to Parvathi.
He stopped and just held the place where his thumbs were.
Arolyn smacked Gifted Sister's chest once. Twice.
"Bucket," she ground through her teeth.
Parvathi pulled a bucket out from under the kitchen sink and brought it to her as she smacked Gifted Sister's chest a third time. Gifted Sister coughed up a little water and gagged. Parvathi helped her roll over and she retched water into the bucket.
'Where…?' she thought as she finished. Then she saw Parvathi. 'The tree?'
He shook his head.
"No! No," she cried.

As for the AI...
I'll find a way to deal with it.
I smirk devilishly.
I could also use it.
Various ideas flashed in my mind.
I shook my head.
Don't count your chickens before they hatch.
Focus on the problem ahead.
Glancing at him, I already found a way to weaken him.

I snicker.
