2007 - Smallville, Kansas - Kent Farm

With the incredible popularity of Superman, merchandising has taken off. The Justice League LLC. has obtained the copyright to Superman and other superheroes in the Justice League. This is just to prevent people abusing the rights and ripping off fans. The Justice League partnered with toy companies, clothing companies, and others to create official merchandise. All profits go to help fund the Justice League's operations and a good portion go to charitable organizations I wanted to highlight such as women's shelters for victims of domestic violence, homeless shelters, Second Chance organizations that help people transition after leaving prison, youth groups, and other worthy ventures. It's estimated that merchandising can bring in hundreds of millions of dollars in sales per year. 

Kids on the street were wearing the iconic Superman "S" t-shirt and buying Superman action figures, buying capes, etc.
Due to Superman eclipsing the fictional Warrior Angel, the movie company that was currently producing the Warrior Angel film has switched production to a Superman film. In an agreement with the production company, the Justice League will receive 5% of box office receipts for the film and the $20 million dollar salary for the leading role will also go to the Justice League.

Oh yeah, the starring role? It's me. Now, you must be thinking I'm crazy for deciding to agree to do this movie. Especially considering the filming location of the Kent Farm for the civilian life of Superman, but I figured if Smallville canon, the filming location for Warrior Angel was the Kent Farm and it didn't cause much trouble, I don't think I'll have too much to worry about. Besides, the host of the filming location also gets a check. I'll be using that money to renovate my bathroom and kitchen - granite countertops, granite backsplash, and a new deluxe shower don't come cheap. On second thought, it's a really cocky move to choose my own farm as a filming location. I'm hoping it's just so obvious that if anyone even looks into the Kents, they'll think there's no way Clark Kent is Superman because why would he choose his own home as a shooting location; is he retarded?
My parents are in D.C., the nation's capital, since my father was elected U.S. Senator for the state of Kansas; the previous Senator resigned in disgrace when his many scandals came to light (exposed by Kelex). Martha Kent went with him to D.C. and often uses a private jet to tend to business for Kent Farms and our other businesses we own.

Back to the acting thing: I studied acting theory and used my abilities to adopt the skills of a trained actor. I helped write the script and named the civilian identity of Superman as Peter Parker (hiliarious, right?). I do all of my own stunts, obviously. They've decided to go really BIG with the special effects, considering I can't get hurt, so everything is going to look really impressive. I've joined the film as executive producer and made the executive decision to film the movie using the James Cameron-style 3D cameras that he used for the Avatar film. I have the remarkable foresight to see that this can be a smash if people have a reason to see the film. Even as big a star as Superman is, it still needs a way to bring in people that aren't big fans of Superman or don't care about superheroes, so the futuristic 3D cameras are the gimmick we need. 

The story is pretty much the same: a baby is sent in a spaceship to Earth before Krypton blows up. The baby lands in Greendale, Kansas (fictional city) and is taken in by Benjamin and May Parker. They live on a farm and May is a school teacher. May Parker became interested in teaching when she initially decided she would homeschool their adopted child, but ended up figuring that her son needed to be exposed to kids his own age. So she finished her schooling and became an elementary school teacher to help keep an eye on her son. She and her husband helped train him in using his abilities. The story then goes on to tell the canon story of Smallville with meteor rocks infecting the town and Lex Luthor is instead Harry Osborne and his father is Norman Osborne instead of Lionel Luthor. The movie is a little long at nearly 3 and a half hours, but so was Avatar. It's a big gamble, but I'm hoping it pays off. Oliver Queen and I are both investors in the film because we think it will be a hit. 

The main plot is the threat of the Osbornes and their experiments. Norman Osborne invents a serum created from meteor rock which changes his personality and gives him superpowers. He turns into the Green Goblin, creating a mechanical suit that's powered by meteor rock to weaken Superman. Superman ends up fashioning an armor out of lead to block the radiation's effects in order to get close enough to destroy the suit. But Norman Osborne calls in the military making it look like Superman is the villain and is the first wave in an alien invasion. The military attacks Superman (using real weapons; because the military are skeptical about Superman's place on Earth and they would love a chance to see if their weapons would hurt me, they've agreed to pull out ALL the stops and fire everything they have at me: rockets, experimental rail guns, lasers, miniguns, new fighter jets, everything - I think they're hoping some of it will work, then they can take my wounded body in for testing.), but none of the weapons work until the general fires a special meteor rock powered laser (provided by Oscorp) knocking me out of the sky. As I'm spitting up blood and the military is about to eliminate me, the general's daughter Mary Jane Watson in her car comes barreling around the corner in front of me proclaiming her love for me and that I'm not a monster, I'm a hero. She gets me into the car and escapes - the general doesn't want to fire on his own daughter. Superman recovers from his injuries by laying in direct sunlight.
Oh yeah, there's elements of Batman V. Superman in the film. After beating his father, Harry Osborne injects himself with the meteor rock serum, going crazy and uses false evidence that Superman is trying to lower our guard by pretending to be a hero, and he manages to convince Batman that Superman is a dangerous alien that must be taken down before he becomes too powerful - he convinces Batman that the more time goes by, he increases in strength by absorbing more and more solar radiation and it may reach a point where he's unstoppable and Superman must be killed now while they have a chance. 
There's this whole Batman Vs. Superman fight with sonic weapons, kryptonite gas, and tons of other gadgets. Batman is wearing a big mecha suit in this film though. He nearly manages to kill Superman until I beg him to help my mother May (Superman only squeaks out "...M-mother...May...have to save...mother...May"). Batman responds with, "How do you know that name!?" - it's a whole big thing. Batman and I manage to team up to free May Parker from her captors, and we agree to look for other heroes and form the Justice League. In this movie, we create the Watchtower that is a space station for teleporting members to and from Earth and the station.

The Osbornes' last resort: They've managed to get some of Superman's DNA and have created a monster named Doomsday that is threatening to destroy the world. There is a big battle with Doomsday and all the other heroes from the Justice League are defeated. Superman sacrifices himself to save the world using a Kryptonite spear that Batman crafted as a weapon if Superman ever went rogue. At the end of the movie, Superman crawls out of the grave in confusion. It's been 6 months since his death; he was in a Kryptonian regenerative coma that mimics a near-death state. There's a being named Darkseid who is threatening to destroy Earth with Apocalypse world; Darkseid is going to smash Apocalypse world into Earth. Superman goes to the Sun to charge up, then goes to Apocalypse world and pushes it away from Earth (mirroring the series finale of Smallville). 
It's going to be a huge 3.5 hour epic with Superman the movie elements, Batman Vs. Superman parts, Justice League, and finally Smallville. It would probably work better as a TV series, but this will be much better for spreading the legend of Superman worldwide.

The teen movie just focused on school love, which made it seem like a feeble flower amid the rustling autumn wind against the formidable crusade of the other blockbusters. Film critics began to badmouth it at first.
"This is Qin Guan's first commercial film. The award-winning actor's script-selecting criteria may be inversely proportional to his acting skills."
"I wonder how long 'Mean Girls' will hold out before it collapses. It has the weakest potential after all."
"Can indie films and commercial films unite? Or could the actor be facing his own Waterloo?"
The audience was more or less influenced by the film experts. Some older people expressed their unfavorable opinions about the film.
A part of Qin Guan's fans was attracted by his acting skills, not his looks. Instead of fighting with the haters like his loyal fans, they remained calm and just replied to the posts peacefully.
"I'm a pure fan. I always focus on his performance, no matter the film genre."
"Yes. Every film must have some highlights, even if it's bullsh*t. For an award-winning actor like him, a good interpretation of his role is a big enough success."

This set a good example for Qin Guan's blind fans, who learned how to control their emotions and defend their idol in the right way.
They all united in harmony. The fans living in the same city or nearby cities contributed to the box office. American schools closed in late June, so the film was in theaters during the beginning of the longest, happiest student vacation.
Students were tired of doing boring homework, and kids pestered their parents for some weekend activities. Their parents took them to the cinema, which they loved. Out of all the films in theaters, "Mean Girls" was the only one appropriate for family audiences.
Everyone bought several tickets at once. It only took a few families to fill a small theater, so most cinema owners experienced a happy surprise. Their smaller theaters were crowded, while the larger ones were nearly empty.
The audience in the small theaters was talking and laughing, while the so-called blockbusters made the audience sleepy. The cinema owners, who were acute businessmen, used the audience's feedback to adjust the timetable the next day.
There were no complaints by the blockbuster distributors, as the latest box office and film reviews could be found in the newspapers.
The first week of the summer season, the North American Box Office went as follows:
No. 1 Mean Girls, 4.3 million dollars
No. 2 Alien vs. Predator, 3.8 million dollars
No. 3 Kill Bill Vol. 2, 2.8 million dollars
No. 4 The Butterfly Effect, 2 million dollars

The statistics shocked all the film production companies in North America.
"Alien vs. Predator" had invested a lot in high-tech effects during post-production. The "Kill Bill" sequel had attracted millions of dollars, but most people had expected more from "The Butterfly Effect". Who could have predicted that a teen comedy with a limited budget would top the list!
All experienced producers were stupefied. The confident critics had also zipped their mouths. They had originally planned on dissing the film after it lost the battle.

On a beautiful morning at one of the houses in the Beverly Hills neighborhood, Tom Cruise who was back from the CAA office yesterday began his day in a bad mood.

He grabbed some newspaper that had a movie review in it. After reviewing them for a half-hour, he threw it all into the trash can.

It was another classic, that brat has just made another classic, and even most of the audience and critics praised that film. It was so different from his film, <Top Gun> which has a mixed review.

"The film's heart is in the right place and Ferris Bueller is slight, whimsical, and sweet. 3.5/4 stars, 2 thumbs up." Roger Ebert from Chicago Sun-Times.

"Ferris and his adventure represent the teen's dream of glory: to have, one's at fingertips, technical skills to sabotage the adult world's machinery of oppression and at the tip of one's tongue, the perfect squelch for grownup's moralistic blather. 4/4 stars." Richard Schickel from Time.

"Ferris Bueller's Day Off should warm the heart of every student who would love to play hooky from school. It also may bring back memories for grownups who think back to the good old days. As he said in the movie, 'Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." Kenneth Turan from Los Angeles Times.


"It's an outrageous, clever, and charming comedy of youth in revolt that John Hughes is accustomed to. Ferris Bueller's Day Off is a classical coming-of-age film filled with countless humor, slick and sleek performance from Alphonse Brandt, and smart script, making this a recognizable film of the decade. 4/4." Janet Maslin from New York Times.

It was all different from his movie review. Monotonous and boring, if not for his face, cheesy soundtrack, and cool jets.

Also, they insulted his acting! It's not his fault that the editor cut his good acting part and replace it with his close-up cool face.

Then he came to the phone and made a call to his agent. "Paula, I want to play in that film, how about the screenwriter from CAA said? And don't forget about my payment, I also want a box office share."

"You mean <Cocktail>? Yeah, the CAA screenwriter said it was good, and I could assure you that you will get at least $15 million-plus box office share. Imagine, even Alphonse only get paid $10 million from that film." Then she laughed lightly.

"Please Paula, I don't want to hear that name." He said angrily over the phone. "Just send me the script."

Of course, not all the reviews were good but that's it. Although the bad review did not come today but rather it came a week after the film was having a theatrical release.

Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, a few nights later after the film was released; a woman carrying a mic and her partner a cameraman arrived in one of the theatres in the downtown area. 

She saw a group consisted of teenage girls were laughing happily after they went out of the theatre hall. So she approached them and asked one of the girls who coincidentally looking in her direction.

"Good evening everyone, my name is Sarah from NBC, Can I ask one of you for an interview."

One of the girls from that group nodded and permit the reporter to interview her.

"Okay, first of all, I saw both of you just came out from the theatre and I'm curious, which film did you watch?"

"Of course it was Ferris Bueller, it was Al's film! I grow up watching his film." The girls behind her were also nodded in agreement.

"How do you rate this film, from the scale of 1 to 10."

"11! This was the funniest film I ever watched. I love Al, his quirkiness, funny, and super cute! Did you see when he was topless?"

The reporter unconsciously nodded in agreement and bit her lower lip.

There was also a weird accident that happened. In few weeks after the film was released. As soon as the gossip of Al being topless out, the number of females who went to the theatre to watch this film increased and filled up to 50% of seat occupancy, which 75% majority of them being a teenager.

Not only that, in Santa Barbara, California; 2 teenagers were caught bringing their vibrating loyal friends to the theatre.

And how did they knew that, it was her loud moan that was heard in the first 10 minutes after the film started. Everyone was laughing at her, and the security decided to kick her out of the theatre.

The accident was all over the local newspaper and the identity of the two girls remained confidential.

"But It also had Tom Cruise and you said you like him." He said sourly.

"I like his film baby not him, don't be jealous. And I liked Al's more! Remember our first date, we watched his film! He's really adorable."

The 3-days box office report dated back from Memorial Days on 23rd to 25th May 1986 was finally out and <Ferris Bueller's Day Off> became the highest-grossing of 3-days box office yet.

With 3 days box office of $10 million, it has beaten the highest earners of box office <Top Gun> who only had earned 3 days box office of $8 million, dethroning them from 1st place.

For the next week's box office competition, <Ferris Buller's> vs <Top Gun> had become the headline news on the film article in the newspaper.

Of course, both of this film was released by Paramount Pictures and their stock increased leap and bound.

Frank Mancuso, Paramount pictures CEO wasn't able to hide his smile at the board meeting. Although he still pissed at one of the executives on Paramount.

They have been in a difficult position as a result of their Paramount Motion Pictures president, Ned Tanen; who they had spent so much time and money to bring him here, was having a cold war with both Steven Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis.

Because of that alone, a long time ago when they knew he had trouble, the board meeting was held to decide whether they should fire him or not.

But he as the one who brought him here suggested asking the truce to them by asking Alphonse Brandt, their protegé with a nice compensation for playing their film.

But if Alphonse himself rejected this offer, they would fire Ned Tanen immediately because they would be losing one of the best box-office-hit persons.

Fortunately, he accepted it and he was really grateful to him.

The next week, <Ferris Bueller's Day Off> when they thought that the box office would decrease, it rebounded back up, earned another $13 million with a cumulative box office of $23 million.

<Top Gun> on their second week only earned $21 million, maintaining their lead in the second place.

Entering June, another heavy opponent came. <Karate Kid Part II> was finally released with an opening 3 days box office of $12 million, defeating the previous winner of $10 million. 

Too bad on the first week, it only earned another 8 million, 29% decrease, maintaining their position in the third place.

1 month passed since and <Ferris Bueller's Day Off> has again become the champion of the months, with a cumulative box office of $50 million with each week brought them at least $5 to 7 million.

<Top Gun> and <Karate Kid II> were unable to fight back as their 1 monthly box office respectively stayed on $43 million and $40million.

No other film released could beat back <Ferris Bueller> and <Top Gun> in 1st and 2nd place, until Paramount Pict. released film <Crocodile Dundee>.

Until next year, before the film was pulled from theaters, Al's film earned a domestic box office of $199 million. 

Became the highest box office beating <Top Gun> with 179 million and <Crocodile Dundee> $174 million.

Now, anyone could no longer question Alphonse Brandt's box office hit ability, although this film has become the lowest box office he ever got.

There's also an urban legend that came throughout Hollywood: if you want to become the box office champion, just let Alphonse Brandt played in your movies.

Probably because they wanted to compete with 'Stupid', 'Devil Shooter' decided to use the same marketing tactic as Hai Rui and host pre-screenings on the same day but at a different theatre chain. They tried to latch onto Hai Rui so they could use them as a stepping stone to improve their own reputation and status in the domestic market.
After all, it wasn't everyday that Hai Rui would release a rubbish film!
"Which agency produced 'Devil Shooter'? How could they be so shameless?" Long Jie phoned Tangning on the eve of 'Stupid's' first pre-screening. Of course, she had always been a straightforward person, so under these circumstances, she would not be satisfied until she completely spoke her mind.
"I heard it was produced by a real estate tycoon," Tangning laughed.
"Although I'm not familiar with how the film industry works, Lu Che told me 'Stupid' is in a worrying situation. The attendance numbers may be used by others to humiliate Hai Rui. Is it really that bad?"
"I can only say that this will be a tough battle," Tangning replied in seriousness.
If it was an issue concerning the fashion industry, she would be able to explain the situation in detail. But when it came to the film industry, she was practically an outsider who didn't understand how it worked.

Meanwhile, in the office of Hai Rui's CEO.
Fang Yu was sitting opposite Mo Ting. His expression was casual and relaxed with a hint of amusement. Especially when he thought of 'Devil Shooter's' disgusting marketing tactics, he couldn't control his lips from curving upwards.
"I'm moved by the way they've helped us promote our film..."
"What are the shareholders' thoughts?" Mo Ting asked without lifting his head.
"The shareholders aren't worried. They've figured the other party are pretty much digging their own graves," Fang Yu replied leisurely.
The longer he stayed in Hai Rui, the more he appreciated a challenge. And the more he enjoyed working with projects like 'Stupid' that required them to put up a fight; not projects that were full of glitz and glamour with no drama.
Projects like that were too easy for him. Of course, if even he felt they were too easy, then to Mo Ting, they were nothing.
This was why, even though the public had already given 'Stupid' a death sentence, the two men in the office were still as calm as ever.
If someone insisted on comparing themselves with 'Stupid', they could compare all they wanted...
In the end, the last one left laughing was still to be determined.
"After tomorrow's pre-screening, organize another two pre-screening events of the same scale. Let's see the attendance numbers then," Mo Ting instructed calmly.
"Should we notify 'Devil Shooter' of the other two times?"
"No need... I'm sure they will only be brave enough to do one pre-screening," Mo Ting replied confidently. "Their storyline is a mess."
Their rival was indeed good at real estate...
But, they knew nothing about the film market.
Films that were brave enough to hold pre-screenings were films that were confident about word of mouth. But, their rival obviously had no self-awareness of the quality of their film. Or perhaps, they were overly confident in their fans.
"OK, I will contact some of the top theatre chains."
The reason Mo Ting managed to rule over the entertainment industry for so many years was never dependent on luck. It was instead based on a strategy to appear like everything was luck.
The more tricky his enemies tried to be, the more excited he felt. After all, men often enjoyed displaying their power and making their enemies feel helpless.
The next day...
The pre-screening for the two films commenced at the same time at different theatres. Because of the hype around 'Devil Shooter', their tickets were in high demand and rare to get one's hands on. As a result, their attendance numbers were very high.
The industry had high hopes for the film because of the hype around it. Even if the storyline wasn't great, it didn't matter as long as fans were willing to pay...
On the other hand, the attendance numbers for 'Stupid' were quite average. But, no one knew, amongst the attendees, Mo Ting had invited some top class critics, film experts as well as representatives from film fan groups. These people's opinions were well-trusted.
So, after their first pre-screening, 'Devil Shooter' walked away with $10 million in ticket sales; almost double of what 'Stupid' received. But, the reviews slowly highlighted the difference in quality of the two films.
Some reviews wildly praised that the actors were extremely good looking and the storyline was exciting. These reviewers were obviously fans.
Meanwhile, film fans complained about the film to the point where they had nothing positive to say about it.
"A real estate tycoon's investment indeed can not be trusted. Even though he spent hundreds of millions, it could not save the movie from a lousy storyline."
"Wow! Xiangxiang was so hot in the film! Those that say the film wasn't good, must be blind."
"This film was so painful to watch. Even if I like a particular actor, I will never expose my eyes to such torture again."
On the contrary, 'Stupid' started off not attracting much attention since everyone was focused on the reviews for 'Devil Shooter'. But, quickly, the reviews of trusted sources began to stand out.
The first thing one of the famous verified personalities on social media did after watching 'Stupid', was vouch for Tangning.
He wrote an entire post titled, 'Tangning alone is enough to beat down next door!' As soon as the post went up, it triggered a wave of responses.
Since their rivals knew how to utilize Hai Rui's influence, Hai Rui also knew how to turn things around and utilize the popularity of their actors.
This verified personality had a lot of influence in the film industry.
This was the reason why Mo Ting insisted on inviting him to the pre-screening even though he had low expectations for 'Stupid' and Tangning...
However, after sitting in the theatre for 2 hours, he found himself walking out completely speechless.
He was so pleasantly surprised that he had an immediate urge to write down his opinion. Of course, he resisted until he finished watching the other films he had been invited to for the day. But, even as the day ended, the only thoughts he had in his mind, revolved around 'Stupid'...
"5 reasons to vouch for Tangning."
After reading the post a so-called 'insider' had previously posted to criticize 'Stupid', the verified personality wrote a completely opposing post.
His 5 reasons all boiled down to one.
It was simple. Tangning went from being a model to an actress, but her acting was miles better than the 'professionals' in the other film!
Attached to the post were a few pictures of scenes from the movie that included Tangning.
A post from an unknown source VS a post from a trusted film critic. The latter was definitely more influential...
With the public's curiosity towards Tangning piqued, the hype around 'Stupid' also increased quite dramatically. Hai Rui's first step was steady. It was so steady that 'Devil Shooter' started to worry.
But, they told themselves not to worry. The true results would be revealed after their official release.
No matter what the results were for the pre-screening, 'Devil Shooter' would definitely be screened much more often than 'Stupid'. This was something predetermined by the market.
But, when President Mo was involved - nothing was definite...


The night before their wedding, her fiancé ran off with his mistress.
