Fright and Fear, the two cloaked members of the Pale Society, followed the man in a black sweater into the quiet back alley. They were cautious, carefully watching their surroundings for signs of traps. The man they were following was also keeping his guard up, looking around to make sure he wasn't followed. However, with Fright's ability, he wouldn't even know they were there.
"I haven't seen our target," whispered Fear quietly; her eyes were carefully scanning her surroundings.
"This is suspicious. Don't let your guard down," urged Fright.
There was something strange about the back alley, but they couldn't exactly put it. There was an open giant dumpster that looked empty far ahead of them and there was only the other side of the back alley. The person they were following walked closer to the dumpster and looked around once more. Once he was sure there was no one, he appeared to have started speaking to someone hiding behind the giant trash bin.
Fright gestured at Fear and the latter nodded. They would strike right away before the enemy had any chance to retaliate. Fear stood in her spot and began chanting.
"Pests and Vermins..."
She lifted her left sleeve and began cutting her wrist with a curved dagger that she had taken out from under her cloak. The dagger's hilt had a carving of a snake on it and there were two tiny green gemstones that served as the snake's eyes.
"Blood and Contagion..."
The blood that came out of her wound turned dark green and it emitted an aura of death and decay.
Whoosh!
Fear's spell chanting had been interrupted!
She had managed to jump out and avoid the sudden attack, but her spell had failed. She looked at what had just attacked her and it was a giant spinning chakram made of blood. The chakram had quickly changed its trajectory and was aiming for Fear's head.
"We're under attack!" she shouted.
Clank!
She deflected the attack with the curved dagger with a snake carving. Although the weapon attacking her was made of blood, it was as hard as steel and was very heavy. On top of that, its circular shape made it hard to properly defend against. Fear's right hand felt rather numb after defending against the attack and she was pushed back several centimeters.
Fear quickly looked around to find her assailant and noticed a woman wearing a tight black coat that had come out from behind a pile of boxes. She was controlling the flying weapon elegantly with her right hand while her left hand was raised in front of her. There was another giant spinning blood chakram by her side which seemed to be used as a defense.
"We have a Gore here," shouted Fear at Fright who was approaching the man they were following. The man had somehow managed to get out of his sight and was now in hiding.
Bang!
The loud sound of a gunshot was heard, but Fear didn't take her eyes off the woman because she trusted her partner. She was following her movement closely and watching where the blood chakram might attack next. It suddenly flew to her left and she quickly defended herself with her dagger.
"Shit!"
Fear was pushed back by the heavy weapon although she was not injured.
Fright, on the other hand, was standing in his spot motionlessly. He had been hit by the sudden bullet and there was a hole in his head, right through the hood he was wearing. However, there was no blood pouring out and not long after, his body became distorted. It was like a drop of ink on water that quickly washed away into nothingness.
It was only an illusion!
"Good thing I'm always prepared," he said, signaling at his partner that he was safe. He was standing in a lowered position to avoid subsequent bullets while watching the spot where the man had disappeared carefully.
Fright looked for the hidden shooter carefully but wasn't able to see them because of the cover. He backed away to get closer to Fear, who was still busy defending herself against the giant blood weapon.
"This is an ambush! Do we fight or escape?" asked Fear calmly, "I'd choose fight, but you make the call."
"Then we fight. If things get dangerous, we'll run without hesitation," replied Fright.
"Great. Those chakrams are very heavy, be careful!" reminded Fear.
Just as she said that, the heavy spinning weapon approached them at a frightening speed. They could even feel the air being blown away by the chakram and the irony smell of blood being spread around in the process.
Whoosh!
The blood chakram aimed at Fright this time, but the moment it made contact with his skin, he once again turned distorted and then disappeared. He reappeared behind a few centimeters away, right behind Fear, who deflected the blood weapon with her curved dagger. It had gone straight through Fright's illusory body and went at her instead.
"We can't just allow the enemies to keep attacking us like this, can we?" asked Fear. Despite being hit by a barrage of attacks, her tone didn't seem distressed. Instead, it sounded like she was smiling. She seemed to have been waiting for the fight after the boring Nightwatch duty.

Fear stood straight and made a deep cut on both of her palms with her sharp dagger. Blood began coming out of the wound right away and she put both hands in front of her with her palms facing down.
Drip... drip...
Fear let her blood flow down to the ground; drop by drop of the crimson liquid created a puddle of fresh blood that became bigger and bigger.  
Clank!
A blood chakram was coming at Fear from the side but it was deflected by a long commando knife that was embellished by a purple gemstone on the hilt.
Fright had taken out his own dagger and was protecting his partner from the attack, giving her the time to finish her preparations. He was pushed back by the impact but it gave his partner the time she needed.
"I, in the name of the Deity of Serpents and Death, offer this blood of mine!"
The wide pool of blood on the ground and started squirming and bubbling slowly as if it was alive. It looked like several things were trapped under the blood and were trying to get out. There was an ominous feeling coming from it.
"For I summon in thy name the serpents that will bring forth death!"
The squirming blood on the ground started twitching violently and the bubbles became bigger. After a while, it solidified and turned into countless tiny snakes that were probably only about ten centimeters in length. However, the number of snakes was the biggest problem since there seemed to be no end to them. They also emitted a green aura that reeked of death.
 The countless small snakes that started slithering in every direction, moving towards Fear's enemies. Most of them moved quickly towards the woman with the blood chakram. She controlled her defensive chakram with her left hand and sweep the floor with decapitated snake bodies. Her right hand controlled the other chakram to keep the enemies busy.
Hiss!!
The hissing of snakes filled the area and they were provoked by the woman's act of killing their brethren. They quickly slithered towards her in a larger number.
The woman then recalled her offensive chakram and get inside both of them. One of the chakrams was placed right at her foot level while the other was a little higher. Both blood weapons then started spinning fast with her in the middle, effectively protecting her from the snakes trying to approach.
Mutilated bodies of snakes were thrown around because of her defensive maneuver. The dead snakes then turned back into blood and gathered in one spot, creating another puddle of squirming liquid. After a while, the blood solidified into more snakes.
Some other snakes had slithered to another direction, effectively searching for the hidden gunman. Fright followed closely with his eyes where the snakes were going.
"Let's see if you can hide from these snakes," he said finally, looking at the spot behind the very same dumpster where the man they were following was last seen. Since the blood chakrams were now both protecting the owner, he was free to move.
Fright readied his weapon quickly dashed towards the location, but suddenly he heard a quiet whisper.
"I, in the name of the Deity of Theft, declare your intention of approaching your target mine!"
He stopped in his track as if forgetting what he was about to do. He then quickly refocused and then backed away from the spot.
"There is also a Thief!" he shouted at Fear, who was still concentrating on her spell. 
"I order you to stop moving!"
Suddenly, there was a deep, commanding voice coming from behind the dumpster, and Fright's whole body was immobilized against his will. He couldn't even lift a muscle, let alone get away from the spot. However, he wasn't worried, because the moment he got attacked, his illusion ability would trigger.
He focused on all of his senses to track the enemies' movement, but there was none since they seemed to be busy defending against the snakes. They were just immobilizing him to give them time to kill off the slitherers. Bodies of snakes were thrown back from behind the dumpster and once again, they turned into blood and from the blood, more snakes were created. As long as Fear maintained her ability or until her stamina was depleted, the snakes would be reborn continuously.
Suddenly, Fright heard a quiet murmur that got him alerted. Since it was not a physical attack, he couldn't use his illusion ability to redirect the spell targeted at him. Fear, who sensed that his partner was in trouble, stopped her spellcasting by retracting her arms. The blood stopped flowing right away and the wounds closed down quickly. 
She quickly dashed to her partner's side and slit her palm left palm with her curved dagger to create a new wound. After that, she took some kind of powder from under her cloak and mixed it with her blood. She then splashed the blood mixture to where the enemies were hiding and shouted.
"Explode!"
Kaboom!
The blood created a violent explosion that covered a small area. There were two figures who were trying to get away from the center of the explosion but they were still thrown back several meters because of the impact. It was the man they were following and another person wearing a mask. Fright noticed that the masked man was wearing the same trench coat as the Police Sergeant who had got away from them. It was their target!
Hiss!!
The snakes that were still alive quickly slithered towards the two people who were still trying to recover from the explosion.
Whoosh!
The woman in the black coat had quickly used one of her chakrams to kill some of the snakes that were approaching them. It gave the two figures a chance to recover and protect themselves with their melee weapons.
Fright, who had recovered from the enemy's ability, was now standing near Fear with his weapon ready. He signaled at Fear and the latter nodded. Fear began preparing her ability while Fright would keep the enemies busy.
Bang!
The man without the mask shot at him and hit him in the shoulder. Fright's body quickly became distorted and disappeared.
Whoosh!
One of the heavy blood chakrams was still busy killing off the small snakes that were approaching them. Since the ability hadn't been maintained, once the snakes were killed, they just turned into blood and evaporated away. 
Fear stood up straight and started chanting solemnly. Her voice echoed in the deserted alley.
"Pests and Vermins..."
She slit her wrist left wrist with her curved dagger and poured her blood on the ground. The wound was wide open without any sign of closing.
"Blood and Contagion..."
The blood that had left her body slowly turned the color of dark green that resembled death. It also emitted a rotten aura that quickly spread to the surrounding area and dissipated into thin air.
"O' Deity of Serpents and Death, thee, that didst govern over curses..."
Her voice was dignified and sounded ceremonial. However, to her enemies, her voice sounded sinister and it carried an ominous foreboding.
The green blood on the ground slowly started squirming like they were tiny worms. They moved in different directions and painted the ground green.
Bang!
There was a gunshot that was aimed at Fear who was preparing a ritual, but Fright took it head-on and there was whole in his chest. Suddenly, his whole body became distorted and disappeared into thin air. He then reappeared several centimeters away totally unscathed.
"I don't have many more illusory substitutes, so you'd better be faster," he said to Fear, who was still busy concentrating on her ritual.
The green blood had squirmed all the way around, creating a perfect circle. It then started moving inwards very slowly.
There was a blood chakram shooting at her very quickly, but Fright was fast enough to deflect it. The countless snakes, whose number had been greatly reduced, help keep the enemies busy to some extent.
The green blood worms were now painting the inside of the circle in the shape of four staves pointing at the four cardinal directions with four crosses between them. Although it was still incomplete, the sigil already emitted a thick green mist that rose in the air. The green mist brought about the feeling of dread and decay, and was slowly spreading to the surrounding area with a speed that increased as the sigil was nearing completion.

Qingfeng Li nodded having learned the reason. However, he was still extremely confident in Sky-Devouring Snake, believing that the black snakes were no match for it.
Sky-Devouring Snake had also discovered that his scent had no effect on the black snakes. It opened its mouth and spit out a black vortex that could devour. Immediately, it had sucked the dozens of snakes into its mouth.
Soon, the dozens of snakes had all been converted into energy for Sky-Devouring Snake.

"Hehehe, calm down Wisdom Snake. I don't have a deity like these two girls, and for your second question, let me have you a taste of it," Xin abruptly moved his hands and touched the snakes at the centre of their eyes.

The two snakes became furious and stared to his at each other on a closer look Xin could tell that rather than furious they were afraid of the existence before them.
Be it a blessing or a deities blessing, it always need an enormous amount of magiculus energy to use those powers. Though the twins were blessed by the god of Healing, Asclepius, they weren't blessed in their magic vessel part.
There was a limitation on how many times they can use the blessings in a day. On the other hand, Xin had merged his magic vessel with his infinite storage space, giving him the ability to use any skills or blessings as many times he wants, in a day.
Xin took advantage of this and let the snakes feel the capacity of his magiculus vessel. Few minutes ago when he touched the snakes, he allowed them to enter into his mind and gauge the depth of his vessel.
The snakes were somewhat confused about it, 'Why this human letting us have a peek at his vessel?' was the initial question that came into their mind.
Even though they were confused they didn't miss the chance and dive into his magiculus vessel to gauge its capacity and strength. And this was the very thing that Xin wanted them to do at that time. Make them jump into his vessel and let them have a taste of its capacity.
"Hisss!! Human tell us the truth," The Snake of Healing asked in a loud voice. It couldn't resist the fear inside and blurted out something that Xin wanted them to ask.
The Snake of Wisdom calm down after some seconds. It was showing a cool behaviour on the outside, but deep inside he was trembling in fear. It was his first time to meet a human with a vessel as big as that.
They were of the idea that his magiculus vessel was somewhat big, little did they know at that time, it was not big, but rather an infinite storage vessel.
"Hehehe," Xin laughed with a creepy expression again and didn't give an immediate answer.
If it were someone else, the Snake of Healing would have beaten him/her to death, but currently the person before them was someone having a lot of magiculus on him. And it was also the thing they needed the most at that time.
"Great human, don't play with us like that. Please tell us your identity. Who are you? Which deity is supporting you from the shadow?"
Xin face palmed at his question, and replied, "Didn't I jus-" Before he said something else Nen intervened the convo and asked the question that he had been keeping in for a while.
"Mr. Xin, why are you talking with those unconscious girls?" Nen asked with a puzzled expression.
"Ah, almost forgot, that you two can't see them."
"Can't see whom?" asked Zinon.
"Ugh…" Xin hesitated for a while. He wasn't sure whether he should let them see the snakes or not. After giving it some thoughts he decided to let them see the spirits before them.
"Mr. Nen, Xinon, please come near," Xin touched them on their foreheads and made a special mark on them. It was a power sharing mark that temporarily allows the user to share some of his powers with the others.
In the beginning both of them felt a little drowsy, but soon they got adopted to it. Suddenly the world around them became as colourful as ever. They started to see the magiculus and the spirit particles around them. In addition they were able to see the two snakes conversing with each other.
This was their first time to see something as weird as that. Two snakes were talking, and that too fluently like humans. Only one thing was odd and that was their hissing sound at different intervals.
Nen rubbed his eyes in disbelieve while Zinon rubbed his forehead in confusion. Only one thing was bubbling in their mind, 'How in the world can these snakes can speak like us? And that too with this much fluency?!!'
Xin knew what they were thinking and asked them to go near the two snakes. Nen wasn't sure why he was asking them to go near those poisonous creatures and hesitated for a while before going near. On the other hand, Zinon knew Xin never meant any harm to him and went near the snakes without hesitation.
"Hissss damn!! Now these two humans can see us!! Big head, tell, what should we do now?"
"Whoa, Xin, are they talking about us?" Zinon asked with excitement. Instead of getting afraid or nervous he was getting more enthusiastic about the two snakes.
And the reason was something that none of the two snakes had guessed till then. Zinon belonged to a family of chefs, making tasty food and strong wines, was one of their specialities.
In some countries Snake wine, and to be more specific Cobra wine is considered one of the top grade wine. Some dealers even grows high quality cobras for the same purpose.
Not only it's a high quality wine, it's also a type of drink that can give immense pleasure and relief to its drinker.
Seeing the two snakes were palm sized, Zinon was tempted to catch them and put them in containers with rice wine or grain alcohol. Only one question was coming to his mind at that time, 'If normal snake wine can give unfathomable pleasures, then what type of pleasures would these talking snakes give, if I make some wine out of them?! '
Seeing the evil grin on his face, a cold sensation ran throughout their body. The two snakes weren't aware of Zinon's intentions but they were aware that the brown eyed guy was planning something bad against them.
"Hu-hu-hu-human, why are you smiling like that while looking at us?" asked the Snake of Healing. Though he was a short tempered one, his attitude took a major turn after coming in contact with the person before him.
It was as if all his senses were warning him, do not fiddle or bad talk with this person, or else the outcome will be something bad.  
Not only him but the Snake of Healing too, asked him something similar, "Human, for some reason I can feel a hostility feeling coming for you. You are making me feel suffocated with your behaviour. And care to explain, why are you smiling like that while looking at us?"
"Huh, what are you two talking about?! I have met you two just now, what made you feel hostility from my side?! It's not like I am gonna put you in a glass jar and make special cobra wine for you."

Chapter 49. The Vatican, Part I

The droning of a plane with several propellers began to pass over Moscow. It was quite dangerous, since it didn't send out a warning as it flew over the center of Russia, and it was flying low enough to be visible to the naked eye.

In fact, an attempt was made to crash the plane at its appearance. But it was not started by fighters or shooting from below.

What appeared were monsters. Three bizarre monsters reminiscent of pterosaurs flapped their powerful wings and headed toward the plane, making horrifying screams. 

The distance was narrowed instantly. 

It was a dangerous situation since at the moment of collision, both sides were inevitably hit hard. But there was no fear in the flashing orange eyes of the monsters flapping their wings at the plane. The propellers, which were rotating so strongly that ordinary people would be frightened just imagining their approach, did not threaten the monsters.


And the plane itself did not hesitate at all to confront these monsters, and it sped up, as if it had decided to hit the monsters in front of it without any inclination, rather than turning around. A game of chicken started over Moscow. However, the losers of this game were the
monsters.

Thunk! A single arrow appeared from somewhere and pierced the bodies of all three monsters at once. There were no screams at all.

The heart-pierced monsters stopped flapping their wings and began to fall down straight to the ground. However, those aboard the plane did not look at them. Their eyes were directed at the front.

"Damn it, boss. I think someone came before us and filmed Mission Impossible."

The appearance of Red Square, which had been devastated by an unknown explosion, was shocking. No one could express his own appreciation or cross-question the words that Jang Sung-hoon had said.

- I'm going down first.- At that moment, Kim Tae-hoon's voice was heard in everyone's head.

"Boss!" At the voice, Jang called out for Kim reflexively, but the thing that welcomed him was only the strong wind coming in through the airplane door as it opened.

Kim had visited Moscow several times, but he had never been allowed to visit the Kremlin. When he came to Moscow at the invitation of the Russian government, Russia did not invite him into the Kremlin Palace. 

Of course, the biggest reason was that he did not have to go to the Kremlin Palace, but the thoughts of those who knew him were different. They said Russia was afraid of Kim Tae-hoon, a crazy bomb, stepping into the Kremlin Palace. At this moment, he had lost his chance to visit the Kremlin Palace forever.

Lenin's Tomb was the place the founder of Russia, the communist hero, had been buried. It was also the reason why Kim and Jang had to wash their identities before coming to Moscow.

"At first, Lenin's Tomb was not located in the underground facility of the Kremlin Palace, but..."

Of course, it was not because Kim and Jang were Communists.

"You're all right, aren't you? What can you do to Chernobog without Bogatri's Great Sword?"

Apparently, Kim had told himself in his dream that the weapon that could kill the Immortal Wolf Chernobog was in Lenin's Tomb. So, he made a plan.

With common sense, how could he ask them to open the coffin, saying, "There is a weapon in Lenin's Tomb that can kill Chernobog."

But now it was all meaningless.

"I will ask Maria first."

Kim went to Maria immediately. She was not far away. She was silently looking at the Kremlin Palace nearby. Her condition was so terrible that it could not be compared with Kim or Jang's.

It was natural. It would be strange if she could easily accept the collapsed Red Square, as she has risked her life for her country and walked on the battlefield for it. 

But Kim did not console her. He did not even put rhetoric into the words that he wanted to speak out. He asked her a question as if staring at her blurred eyes. "Where did you keep Lenin's Mausoleum?" 

"Yes? What—"
 
"Lenin's tomb, in which there is a weapon that can kill Chernobog." 

It was not just a statement, but a shocking statement that could not be accepted even in normal condition. But rather it worked. 

"What, what's that..." As a shock therapy, the new shock that entered the mind of Maria returned her eyes to normal. "His coffin is..." 

Of course, it was only for a while that the pupils were clear. "… we carried it to a secret bunker in the underground of the Kremlin Palace in case something happened." Her eyes, began to shake violently as she spoke. 

It was the same with Jang. "Well, well, is the only weapon which can kill Chernobog buried deep down in the underground of the Kremlin Palace which has been collapsed, under a pile of stones that would take at least a year to clean up using hundreds of heavy movers?" After the question, Jang shut his mouth.

What more could he say? The only weapon that could kill Chernobog, the only clue that Kim would escape from the curses of the monsters that he had gained so far, and that he would gain from now on, had become something he might not promise next time.

However, Kim was different. He judged the situation coldly. 

'I will exclude Bogatri's Great Sword at once. What I cannot get I cannot get. Here, spitting out complaints and chewing despair, there is no way for Bogatri's Great Sword to come out of the bunker deep in the collapsed Kremlin Palace. So, what matters right now is the background of what happened now.'

'It was not a simple explosion. Someone decided to destroy Red Square.'

It was bombs that had destroyed Red Square, and to be precise, the Kremlin Palace. It was not just a bomb, but a huge amount of explosives were used, and it was not just used but designed for an explosion. If it were just a simple explosion, it would not have collapsed to this extent.

Who would have done that? 'Not a monster.'

It was clearly not a monster.

If a monster had the ability to deal with explosives at this level, Kim would just give up the war with the monsters here. It was unlikely that any force in Europe would be the culprit, as Moscow was a huge breakwater that would prevent the monsters in Siberia from entering Western Europe.

'Without the lips, the teeth feel the cold.' There might be a man who expected the fall of Moscow, especially those who were located around the Vatican, but no one wanted it to be a reality.

The only thing left was one. 

'Then, the culprit is just the Six Snakes.'

The Six Snakes broke down Russia. 

'So now it's time to move on. I need to figure out why.' 

What did they gain by destroying Russia? 

The Six Snakes would not have destroyed Russia for no reason. The Six Snakes were interfering with the plans of Russia once more. They were actively interfering with Russia's attempt to recover the warheads during the winter. They had cut off the hands and feet of Russia.

'Russia would have tried to negotiate with the Six Snakes.'

When he realized that, Kim thought that what the Six Snakes wanted was to occupy a favorable position in negotiations with Russia. He thought that the Six Snakes, who had lost their stage in Taiwan, would settle on Moscow and reveal their ambition to dominate the world once again, based on Europe.

'I had the hidden intention to take advantage of it in reverse.'

That was why Kim forged his identity.

He intended to hide his identity and kill the Six Snakes who had settled in Moscow. He was going to hide his identity and enter the snake cave to catch the snakes.

The news that scared the owners of the Vatican was the news of the collapse of Moscow, not the presence of the Giants who had destroyed Germany, nor Hrungnir, the monster with the dark blue eyes that led them.

"The rumor is that the Six Snakes committed a terrorist act-"

"Why would the Six Snakes blow up the Red Square in Moscow?"

"Didn't Russia reject their offer of help, and cut off their ties with the Six Snakes? So, Russia has asked us for help, not the Six Snakes."

The Vatican was safe from the monsters. It was possible because the Vatican maintained the most complete form of a sacred place of any religion.

However, that was all. The Vatican relics blocked the monsters, but there was no ability to prevent humans. That was why the Vatican Cardinals were reluctant to send troops to war against the Giants. In a situation where only people could stop people, the Vatican owners were worried about the absence of their troops.

"Do you mean that's why the Six Snakes broke Moscow?"

"It is a warning. It is an example of how a person who refuses their offers is treated."

In that sense, what the owners of the Vatican were now afraid of was not the Giants, but the Six Snakes. It was still true.

The First Hunter is a short Korean, action-fantasy novel situated in a post-apocalyptic world. Monsters start appearing out of nowhere and people are unlocking strange powers. Those who unlock such powers are called ‘Hunters’, ones with the strength to kill the monsters. To fight and survive, that is their goal. Society crumbles and the world burns.

A very fun novel that dives into the plot almost instantly. The novel is interesting in a way that it depicts a lot of human nature and what people would do in a situation such as this is quite an accurate manner. The character development is also very good as you get to learn about the characters, their backgrounds, and their stories. All in all, this is another novel I’d recommend to a lot of readers who are interested in reading fantasy and gaming novels.

The forest retained its unearthly silence, the only thing that occasionally broke it was the giant mother snake.

     Claude couldn't feel any of his injuries— which he knew were serious, all he could feel was the weakness of his knees and his trembling hands. He knew his adrenaline was the only reason he was still standing so he decided he'd buy Ursula as much time as possible right now...while he still could.

     WOOSH!

     The snake watched Claude speedily jump to the side to try and attack its exposed side but it immediately lunged at him headfirst. Claude was barely fast enough to dodge the wild attack but he did, he took the opportunity to lunge back in and cut the snake.

     SCHLICK!

     The cut barely did anything but further agitate the snake. Claude could feel the sweat drip down his face and body and the burn in his quads from all the lunging and dashing, "its time for a new gameplan." He thought to himself.

     Claude quickly looked around for any ideas and saw the tree on the right side of the snake that it hit to send the wood splinters at them had tipped over, slightly creating a lopsided triangle above the snakes head...but it also made something else.

     Claude suddenly remembered Lucy standing on the tipped over tree looking down at then snobbishly. That memory gave him an idea of what he had to do.

     "ALRIGHT YOU LIMBLESS BASTARD, I GOT A LITTLE SOMETHING FOR YOU!" 

      Ursula could see a light blood trail from where Claude was moving around to try and hit the snake making a detailed map of red all over the forest floor. She realized he couldn't lose much more sending a flood of anxious fear and anger through her. She continued to try and get up but her leg wouldn't budge, "GOD DAMMIT COME ON!!" She thought as she tried to get up.

      Once Ursula was up balancing on one leg she saw Claude take off for the snake from the left. The snake made an expression that could only be described as a sadistic smile. 

     Claude charged at the snakes left side going slower than usual to bait the snake into attacking. It worked, the snake sent its massive horned head straight for Claude. He dashed out of the way sending the snakes large head into a equally large rock out of pure coincidence. He was now on the right side of the snake....next to the tipped over tree. "Got you, you scaly meathead." He thought as his plan came into play.

     Claude dashed towards the tipped over tree. He bounded up its earthy red bark with the nimble grace of a wildcat, all while he lightly soiled it with his dark red blood. 

     Once Claude reached his desired height up the tree the snake was still dazed from hitting the rock—which it shattered, he could see its exposed side with the cut from Ursulas axe perfectly.

     He jumped from the tipped over tree with his sword held up in both hands yelling, "WHY DONT YOU TRY THIS ON FOR SIZE!!" 

     SCHLICKKKK!

     Claudes blade found purchase, as he slid down its side while the blade cut a long gash down the snake. It let out a deafening roar in pain for the first time.

     RWAORRRRRRRRR!!!

     "Nice job, you just alerted the cavalry." Claude said tiredly through barely opened eyes.

     Claude heard nothing after the snakes roar so he was sure it was dead, "kind of anticlimactic." He thought. After what felt like forever Claude turned and looked back at Ursula.

     "So Ursula, how do you want to split the silv—" 

     Before Claude could finish his sentence the snakes tail coiled around him up to his stomach squeezing the life out of him.

     Ursula watched as the snake grabbed up Claude and brought it face to face with him through fear filled eyes. Once they were face to face the snake roared in Claudes face in what seemed to be a display of dominance or triumph over Claude.

     RWWWOARRRRRRR!

     Ursula watched in awe as Claude roared back.

     RRRRAHHHHHHHHHH!

     Although his didn't sound as menacing, the snake still flinched like a ravenous beast just roared at it. Ursula was shocked into movement at the sound of Claudes voice and started limping over to the side of the snake clutching her battle axes like her life depended on it. 

     Claude could feel the snakes hard sand paper like underbelly grinding against his skin, scratching his already opened wounds and creating new ones. He held the snakes blood red glare refusing to look cowardly in death. The snake opened its mouth preparing to eat Claude, it's vast open jaws made it look like he was going to be plunged into the abyss instead of a snakes mouth.

     WOOOM...WOOM....SQUISHH!

     Before Claude was put into the snakes mouth the sound of something flipping through the air and hitting flesh incredibly hard stopped the snake from eating him.

     Ursula threw her axe harder than she ever had before, the whole blade of the axe sliced barbarically into the snakes side stopping it from eating Claude.

     The snake still held Claude with its tail but was now looking at Ursula, its slitted nostrils flaring in anger. The snake lunged at Ursula furiously, before it reached her she dodged out of the way landing awkwardly due to her bad leg.

     Claude watched helplessly as Ursula battled the snake on one leg barely dodging critical strikes, "come onnnn, I have to do something....ANYTHING!" He roared in his mind as he hoped for anything to save his teammate.

     Ursula continued to dodge and dash out of the way of the snakes strikes but she could feel how tired she was becoming. The snake stopped for a while and just looked at her, a small spark of intelligence lit behind its vermillion eyes. The snake charged in again and Ursula dodged, but this time the snake stopped mid attack...it baited Ursula to move just like Claude did to it earlier in the battle.

     Ursula watched in horror as the snakes eyes followed Ursulas side dash, she was now sure it was smiling.

     Claude watched in surprise as the snake baited Ursula into moving where it wanted her to. Once she skidded to a halt the snake effortlessly swung its head smashing into Ursula.

     WOOOSH
     
     NOOOOO
      
     OOUF!

     CRACK

     As the snake came toward her all she could heard was Claude yelling before she was sent crashing into a nearby redwood tree.

     Claude watched Ursula hit the tree so hard the leaves up above fell slowly to the forest floor. Seeing this triggered something violent and cruel in him. He no longer felt his physical injuries, he didn't even have all of his senses, he couldn't hear anything or smell his own blood as the snake wrung it out of him like a wet wash rag. 

     "Hey", Claude said

     The hate in his voice was so strong the snake could taste it. It wretched after Claude spoke feeling physically sick, it met his eyes and they no longer looked wild and furious like it's own, now they were cold with the slow and steady burn of hatred behind them. The snake reflexively  wrapped its tail around Claude twice more coiling up and around his shoulders.

     Claude didn't notice his arms where completely bound until he tried to move them, he didn't feel pain from rubbing against the snakes underbelly, he just felt like he was being held by a large mass. 

     The snake lifted Claude up to its face again to eat him. Claude knew he should be afraid as he approached his end...but instead he was enraged, enraged at the fact that he was a disappointment in school, he had no friends and he was going to die on his first mission and be the result of someone else's death.

     Claude looked at the snake with tear filled eyes and teeth bared, he pulled his hand out of the snakes death grip with surprising ease as he reached for the snake. The snake smiled in dark amusement. Claudes bloodied and mangled arm was no longer reaching for the snake as he it made a fist aimed at the snake.

     "Y-You better keep me bound like this f-forever, because If you let me go....I swear to god I'll tear you apart."

     Claude delivered the haunting message to the snake through bared teeth, he said it so aggressively saliva flew from his mouth like a wild dog...but that wasn't the worst part. The last part of Claudes sentence seemed to silence the world completely so everyone and everything could hear his promise. The forest seemed to inhale in response to his message, trees began to hum despite there being no wind and the ground started to shake like a stampede was near. Only after observing all that, the snake remembered to breathe.

     SHSHSHSHSHSHSH

     The snake heard flapping and leaves in the distance, it was so fast and loud that all the noise seemed to blend into one sound. Whatever the noise was it was getting closer at an alarming rate.

     Prof. Raizen was low on mana from dashing around to watch different students fight the snakes so he had to run after a fear filled Warren came and notified him that Claude and Ursula were in serious trouble. "What kind of trouble could they be in? There's only Plated snakes here." He continued to think as he ran behind Warren who was leading him and the class. 
 
     "..."
     
     SSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSH

     Everyone felt the forest go more silent than it was previously, then they began to hear something loud and numerous above them.

     "WHATS THAT!!"

     A student asked as it pointed to the sky, Prof. Raizen looked up and saw a black mass fly above them towards the direction of Claude and Ursula, it was so loud some students covered their ears or ducked out of fear. 

     As they got closer they noticed the black mass stopped and began circling above something.

     Prof. Raizen and the rest of the students reached the scene and saw Ursula on the ground out cold and Claude was being held by...a monster. Students gasped in fear and surprise as they noticed the damage the two inflicted on the monstrous snake. The last thing anyone saw was the hundreds of birds dive down as a collective black mass straight at the snake.

     SHKICK

     RIIIIP

     RWOARRRRRR

      CRUNCHCCH

     Hundreds of birds began to attack the snake most of them went into the cuts Claude and Ursula previously made while others clawed its eyes out and went into its mouth. 

     After a minute if everyone watching the carnage ensue, the snakes began to disperse.

     Claude felt the snakes grip loosen as the birds ripped and destroyed it, he felt like he was getting weaker and weaker as time went. Then he was dropped as he hit the ground the birds began to fly away but they still swarmed around him lightly, like a shadow. He felt so weak he dropped to one knee, as he brought his head up to look at the snake he noticed the birds completely hollowed it out from the inside, the cut on its side was ripped wide open where the birds forced themselves in, he also noticed something else.

     He could see perfectly, almost too well. He could see the divisions and light scratches on the snakes scales, he also saw a hole. It was so tiny nobody else would've seen it, he shouldn't even be able to, he also noticed scorch patterns around it like whatever punctured it was incredibly hot. "What could poke a hole in a Plated snake like this?" He wondered.

     His thoughts where interrupted by the birds flying away. He watched them all fly up and away from the bloody scene..but one stayed. The hawk was bigger than average and its large yellow eyes seemed to hold intelligence and understanding as it looked at him.

     "Come." Claude said to the bird as it flew to his shoulder.

     Prof. Raizen watched as the birds flew away revealing a cut and bruised Claude holding the snakes tail in one hand..with a large hawk on his shoulder. Everyone was completely silent, Claudes bronze skin seemed to glow under the sun light, highlighting his deep gashes and how his blood leaked all over the floor, they questioned how he was still standing. After a while Claude looked up and the bird flew off, then he turned around and looked at everyone through dazed bright green eyes saying, "Urs- save Ursula." He took a couple slow steps dragging his feet before he passed out after killing the snake.

Numbers is everything here in New Gloria. Once your Reborn and earn your class and system those numbers that measure your abilities mean your life...or your death. Many heroes lay down their lives in pursuit of fame and power while exploring the tangents. But the main goal is to stop the creatures from within the tangents from coming out and further changing the earth, as well as the bosses of the Tangents who seem to have their own ulterior motives.
       


       Claude Grey learns pretty fast that most people in power do everything they can to stay in power, even if that means stepping on the throats of people they used to hold dear. Claudes only ever liked a few humans and as he gets older he learns to find new ways to hate them and during his exploration of the Tangents he stumbles upon a strange and beautiful power that helps to show him how truly horrible humans are and maybe these beasts of the Tangents aren’t what the “Heroes” make them out to be.

The night in Dream was usually the den of ghosts, many evil spirits or the undead. During the night time living animals would generally hid in the depth of their caves or tree holes. If sometimes the demonic energy soared beyond the endurance of the living beings they would naturally retreat into the outermost layer of the forest. In the morning they would return again.
        So the Dream Forest was never devoid of noises. In the morning it was filled with the cacophony of living beings and at night the forest would be filled with sudden eerie laughter, sobs, yelling and continuous low whispers. That specific night too, the whole forest, like a psychologically imbalanced person was whispering slowly various unexplainable stories.
       But strangely a part of the forest was eerily quite. Although the demonic energy was very dense here, there was not a single ghost's whispering. The silence was so frightening in this part, that it might give someone the illusion that his ears had stopped functioning. 
      In this uncomfortably bottomless silence, Scarlet was sitting above a thick tree branch and was trying to find some stars through the little space the dense foliage could provide. Pure demonic energy was continuously merging with her body. At first She was frightened by the dense red ominous aura that simultaneously entered her body without any restrain as soon as night descended. But after a while she noticed that the ominous aura was not at all harmful towards her. On the contrary it strengthened her muscles, bones and purified her blood without her doing any kind of hard work.
         Scarlet had read many cultivation novels online before as Aria. In every novel the protagonist had to work his ass off to strengthen himself with a powerful heavenly technique. But she didn't imagine it would be so easy for her to grow strong. Absorbing demonic energy was like a instinct that had been thoroughly engraved in her bloodline. She didn't even need a heavenly or maybe a demonic (in her case) technique to cultivate. Scarlet was too happy. She spoke out loud, " Being a vampiress has it's advantage too.....he..he....well, who doesn't want to be strong?"
      She was so immersed in her thoughts that she didn't notice the slight movement behind her. The tree on which Scarlet was taking shelter suddenly grew countless pair of eyes or more specifically speaking, the ivies on them grew eyes. The eyes was glowing green in pitch black darkness. They were slitted in the middle. Their cold unfeeling gazes which were devoid of any warmth, could make the most bravest person's skull go numb in fear even without looking.
        Scarlet who was sitting opposite the tree trunk didn't saw these abnormal things but felt several baleful gazes on her. She abruptly stiffened. She might be brave but Scarlet was after all only a seventeen years old high school girl in her previous life. She might have the courage to spend the night alone in a forest, but she absolutely didn't have the courage to put herself as the protagonist of a horror, suspense and thriller movie.
        The baleful gazes behind her were becoming stronger and stronger. Scarlet wanted to move her neck to see what were behind but her neck won't move. It was as if her whole body had paralyzed. She could smell that the sweet aroma in the air was intensifying with every passing second. It was making her dizzy.
      Suddenly, she felt that something was very slowly crawling around her neck. Scarlet with great difficultly lowered her neck. Her eyes widened in fear to see the cold reptile that was hissing maliciously. It was a snake?!! Her body violently jolted. Scarlet's forever indifferent expression cracked finally. There were horror written all over her face. The demonic energy also became somewhat restless around her. 
        Scarlet threw the snake with all her might. Her hands were trembling. She didn't fear tiger or lion but all the creatures from reptilian species, even the tiny lizards were feared by him greatly. It was to the point that it was quite abnormal.
        As she threw the snake Scarlet unconsciously turned around. And the scene in front of her completely terrorized her. Those seemingly ordinary ivies had come alive and transformed into snakes. Not only on her tree but on every tree in front of her there were thousands of snakes spiralling around, hissing coldly, gazing at her.
     Scarlet hurriedly climbed down from the tree. Her whole body was trembling. She started to back away step by step. The snakes also were starting to coil down from the trees and approached her slowly like how a hunter would corner his prey. All of sudden her back was knocked against a tree and Scarlet felt several cold touches on her cold skin that was crawling and slowly tightening their grips. As she turned around she saw the same scene as the front. Snakes!! They were everywhere!! Hundreds, thousands of them!!!
      The panic stricken Scarlet screamed as she forcefully removed the snakes on her body. She helplessly looked around to find a escaping route for herself but to her disappointment the devious snakes had blocked her every route of escaping. Scarlet was like a caged bird captured by a trap. Only these traps were made up of snakes.
     This was the infamous place known as the ' Snake Valley ' of the Dream forest amongst the Adventurers. This place was marked as a all time danger zone by many famous S ranked adventurers. The snakes here were all undead, demonic beings. At day time they would remain camouflaged like some common ivy. But they exuded a sweet aroma which would stole the consciousness of the living beings that dared to enter their territory. At night these undead snakes would woke up by absorbing the surrounding demonic energy and would devour the unconscious beings. The most frightening thing about them was this creatures could devour everything starting from flesh, bones to the souls of living beings, ghosts and even the undead. Nothing was spared. Those who managed to escape from this valley to tell the tale were generally  very few veteran S ranked adventurers who were later traumatized by the horror of the valley and died soon after.
           Scarlet who just recently became a vampiress, still contained the fear of human heart. She had long lost her calm facing the greatest fear of her life in such a overwhelming manner. She wanted to go back to her home, to Earth and find solace in her mother's embrace. She wanted to see her brother. She also wanted to meet up with her stupid underlings. She closed her eyes. Her consciousness slowly entered into a deep illusionary space. When she opened her eyes again they were completely blank. The brightness that shined brilliantly was gone. All that remained was nothingness. Her face was indifferent unlike the panic stricken face a few seconds before.
        The restless demonic energy around her became tranquil again. It steadily started to enter her body again. The snakes crawled to climb along her leg. This time Scarlet didn't scream or panic. She just stared at those green slitted eyes as more and more snake climbed upon her. She remained still and let them climb. A creepy smile slowly bloomed on her face. Her blank eyes glowed with intense red light. Scarlet exposed her  pinkish red tongue and licked her lips. At this time her expression was of a alluring demoness who was staring at  her prey. 
       Some of the snakes had already reached her delicate neck and circled around her to tighten their clutches to suffocate her. Scarlet's smile deepened.
"You are really impatient to die huh?" She chuckled for a bit, then gently touched the scales of snake that was strangling her. She said softly as if to appease the snake," Don't worry, i will give death to every one of you as you have just delivered yourself to me?Ah.....how could I refuse such generous offer?"
As soon as she finished speaking the snake on her neck started to wither at a rate visible to the naked eyes. If you look carefully you could see a dark red blood sphere flew from the snake and entered Scarlet's body. The snake fell down from her neck. Scarlet smiled happily. Her emotions were showing vividly on her face unlike her indifferent face before although her glowing eyes were still blank. It was as if she had turned into a maniac listening only to her inner demons.
" Hmm....such dense demonic energy. It's really a bliss to eat you. Really yummy. Now let's absorb you all....ah i am drooling." Scarlet started to laugh menacingly. 
      Soon all the snakes that climbed on her body started to fell on the ground one after another. A large number of red spheres merged in her body vigorously. The surrounding snakes as if perceived the danger in front of them and tried their best to flee. Scarlet smiled lightly. But the cruelty in her voice was very clear.
" Hey where are you going? Don't you want to follow your deceased companions?"
The snakes that were running, "....."
If they could speak they would have screamed in unison," we refuse your kindness"
Scarlet as if understood their plea and said," Oh...you still dare to run? But don't worry I am too kind. I will definitely help you reach your companion."
Scarlet didn't chase them anymore but only raised his hand and the snakes, whichever corner they hid all paused and became withered. Hundreds and thousands of red spheres floated in the air and rushed to enter the only 5 feet 5 inch short body. If Edwyn was present here he would have a complicated expression on his face as he would have muttered," Ah...wife is too overpowered."
        Seconds became minutes and minutes became hours. Finally with the first ray of dawn Scarlet finally digested the huge amount of demonic energy. Her body was thoroughly nurtured by it. Her bones had enlarged magnificently. The once five feet five inch tall petite girl has grown to become almost five feet eleven inch tall. Her long black hair shined like the shiniest silk. Her previous pink lips were now  blood red. Her unhealthy pale white skin complemented them. Her two round mounds on the chest had enlarged magnificently in full glory. Her previous clothes almost couldn't hold it. Her whole body oozed of sexual appeals. But her eyes as she opened them, was so piercing cold that they could freeze someone with one glace.
         Scarlet's blank eyes were now full of determination. She was utterly ashamed for the previous night's panic stricken conducts. She had given herself up to her inner demon's sweet illusions. While absorbing the red spheres if she forcefully didn't suppressed it she would have forever lost her true self to pure desire, lust and violence. Scarlet right then understood that as a being surviving on blood and demonic energy she was always on the very edge of loosing reasons. Thus it was necessary to get rid of any kind of extreme emotions like hatred, jealousy, anger, greed, and most of all love which generally created emotional storms in any race. She couldn't...no she forbid herself to fall in love.
        The harmful force that she thought was obstructing her emotions was actually helping her from loosing herself. She sighed in her mind and thought,
" Maybe a little bit of happiness and sadness are okay but from today onwards i vow to obstruct any kind of extreme emotions."
As warm sunlight covered the whole dream forest Scarlet saw the whole Snake Valley was filled with the thousands of snake corpses. Before these undead snakes covered themselves with demonic energy to protect themselves. But at that moment as soon as the light touched them without any demonic energy for protection, their corpses burnt like gasoline. Thus the so called infamous Snake Valley of Dream forest met it's end just for offending one vampiress.

Aria woke up with a start in a completely different girl's body after dying in a car accident.
