We finished eating and I volunteered to wash the dishes, while washing the dishes, I watched as grandma was starting the fire place and making tea. Tea was my favorite drink because it was just really relaxing and soothing. I finished washing the dishes and dried off my hands, then I walked to the living room and sat next to Mason on grandmas warm and cozy rug, while she was sitting in her rocking chair.
"Ok my children, I will tell you a story about my past, when I was a little girl." "It all began when my father had passed away and was drifted away at sea", "My mama always told me that he is living in the fire, water, earth, and the wind, and that he will always be with me, even if I could not see him." Mason had fell asleep, so I asked grandma if I could take him to his room and then she could continue, so she waited, when I got back grandma had a small antique styled box in her hand. I curiously sat down, waiting for her to continue the story.
"Okay Miracle, now I will continue my story." "So,  before my mother passed away, she gave me this box and said always wear this flower pin in your hair while sleeping and keep this painted tattoo on your for head, it will keep you safe from harm, and bring you closer to the other world." "It was too late before I could ask her any other questions, but she also told me to pass this down from generation to generation, so, I believe you are at the right age to receive this ancient heirloom." "You are the next DreamCatcher."
Grandma used white paint from the box she held in her hand and traced 3 marks on my forehead. She also took a beautiful white lily flower pin with a gold piece hanging from it and placed it in my hair. She also told me to say a prayer before I go to sleep, and to be calm at all times.
"Grandma, what is a DreamCatcher?, what do I have to do...?"
"You will be fine, they will tell you everything that you need to know once you arrive, now go to bed dear."
"Okay Grandma..."
I was confused and curious, what did she mean by I am the next DreamCatcher, what even is a DreamCatcher, and what do I need to do... and who are "they", and where will I arrive at and when???

She found it. Lisa take that thing and come out from her house at the back door. She headed to the Uncanny Soul World. 

 
 

Lisa put the Dreamcatcher on the glass scale in front of the gods. They need to make a ritual to eliminate the vibes that ghosting Lisa with her own nightmares. In a second, Lisa also collapsed there right away after the ritual starts. 

“ Take her and lay her there…” 

Oerin gave the order. Owen quickly takes his bride to the pouch beside the glass scale. They continue the ritual. 

 
 

“ Owen, we need your energy too…” said Agrada. 

Owen, who understand it went to the glass scale and take out something from inside him. 

“ It was the Aqua Gem Heart!” 

 
 

Owen put it beside the Dreamcatcher, and he collapsed too! He’s not totally faint but he’s doing cultivation there. 

All of them cultivate there, to make this ritual successful. They need to break and destroy the dreamcatcher! 

 
 

Lisa opened her eyes, she at a different place. This is not her world or reality world. Her eyes wandering around. It was dark and lonely. Lisa gets up and start to explore this place but then she recalled something. 

 
 

“ This is my dream world? Yes, I just had the ritual!” 

 

She remembered that she just got the Dreamcatcher, and they are undergoing the ritual to break it, but she collapsed after all. But why? 

 
 

“ You’re coming huh?” A voice greets her. 

“ Hellen?” 

 
 

“ Why so surprised? You always search for me, right?” she crosses her arms. 

Lisa clenched her fist. She had anger and disbelief inside her. That girl really becomes different! Hellen had changed into someone who she doesn’t even know anymore. 

 
 

“ That’s right! I always searched for you before, but not anymore soon!” 

 Lisa finally realized, she doesn’t have to pity on Hellen anymore. 

“ Wow! Lisa finally realizes!” Hellen clapped her hand. 

Lisa just stares at her. ‘What are she doing her? Are she real or only my illusion here?’ 

 
 

“ What are you doing here?” Lisa asked. 

Hellen smirks before she replied to her. 

“ To kill you of course!” 

 
 

She made a surprised attack on Lisa. Lisa unaware of that and can’t even avoid her attack! She off her guard! Lisa fell down on the ground! 

 
 

“ You!” Lisa injured a little. 

“ Well, should you be more careful!” 

 
 

“ Oh! I forgot to say to you… This is not your dream world…,” said Hellen. 

Lisa was puzzled and in confusion. What is does mean? This is not her dream world? 

 
 

“ What do you mean?” 

“ You are in my dream, the Dreamcatcher is just a trick to bring you here…” 

Hellen said all. It was her plan to bring Lisa out from her team member and hurt her. If Lisa far from her team, then Lisa hopeless to fight with her. 

 
 

“ What?” Lisa speechless. 

“ Also, you are powerless here…” Hellen smirks. 

 
 

Lisa aware about that because when Hellen attacked her just now, she feels the pain badly. However, she doesn’t let it show. But sure, Hellen already planned this. 

 
 

“ So, this is your trap? Want to kill me?” Lisa still provokes her. 

“ Yes, but not so fast… I can’t kill you… I just need you to be unconscious!” 

 
 

Hellen wants to attack Lisa on the spot, she takes out the dagger and want to stab her! In a second the dagger threw away from her reach! 

 
 

“ Owen!” Lisa startled with his sudden appearing here. 

 
 

Hellen also surprised that Owen Lord is here! He’s protecting Lisa. Hellen bit her lips. 

“ Lisa, are you okay?” Owen asked. 

Lisa nods, he helped her to stand up stable. “ How could you be here?” 

“ I’ll explain to you later, we need to settle her first.” He stares at Hellen. 

 
 

“ But I can’t use my power here… This is not my dream.” Lisa told him. 

“ Believe in yourself… I know that my bride is an awesome girl…” He winked at her. 

Lisa felt a bit annoyance with his words, but she just keeps it on her own. That’s right, even before she got her special abilities, she was an athlete, Karate’s Athlete. 

 
 

“ Stop cringe here!” 

 
 

 Hellen charges an attack to them. Owen blocked it first, Lisa come to upfront with her. Lisa counterattack Hellen’s and start to make a move. They sparred to each other. Owen being held by a shadow! Now, it’s only Lisa and Hellen fights. 

Hellen’s purpose to make Lisa unconscious. So, GaMoon could be here, and the world also will meet the end. However, it’s not easy to make Lisa sleeps forever. 

 
 

“ Remember when we last sparred together?” Lisa tried to change the topic. 

“ Huh? Of course,” 

“ Why you do this!?” 

“ I’m jealous, it’s obvious girl! You always winning, everyone loves you, but you only see yourself, love yourself and doesn’t even care to other people…”

Hellen doesn’t let Lisa finished her words. She quickly rushes to stabbed Lisa as Lisa’s guard was down.

Gue pun tetap berjalan santai didepan Rey. Saat ini gue sedang kesal dengan cowo yang dibelakangnya ini. Tiba-tiba....

"AKH-" teriak gue tertahan karna mulut gue udah dibekap duluan
"Gak usah lebay" kata orang itu yang bikin gue melolot, ya masa gue di bil lebay padahal dia yang bikin gue kaget.
"Dasar Rey asu😑" gumam gue
"I can hear you" kata nya sambil narik tangan gue kesebuah stan
"Bagus" kata gue kesel
Tak lama setelah itu kita berdua berenti di sebuah stan.....
"BAGUSSSSSSSSSSSS" kata gue antusian yang ngeiat banyak banget DREAM CATCHER
"Lo mau?" Tanya Rey yang langsung gue anggukin
"Take anything you want" kata Rey.
"Anything?" Tanya gue yang diangguki Rey. Gue langsung aja pilih-pilih Dreamcatcher yang gue suka. FYI gue itu suka banget sama yang namanya dreamcatcher
Gue udah pilih 2 Dreamcatcher warna hitam ama putih.
Dan gue langsung ngode ke Rey kalo gue udah seleseai milih dan dia langsung bayar DreamCatcher nya.
Kita udah menjauh dari stan itu dan sekarang kita berjalan kearah dimana tadi motornya Rey parkir. Setelah sampai, Rey langsung aja naik ke motornya trus ngasih gue helm dan gue langsung ambil helm nya dan pake.
Setelah 15 menit perjalanan, akhirnya kita sampe juga dirumah gue. Gue langsung aja turun dan kembaliin helm nya.
"Thanks" kata gue yang diangguki Rey dan dia pun bersiap untuk pergi tapi gue tahan
"Tunggu tunggu, gue mo ngasih lo sesuatu dulu" kata Cathlyne lalu mengeluarkan Dreamcatcher warna putih dan menyisakan Dreamcatcher yang warna hitam didalam plastik.
"Nih buat lo. Meskipun lo yang bayar anggap aja ini dari sebagai ucapan terimakasih karna lo ud-"

"Your Thanks has been accept" kata Rey lalu mengambil plastik yang gue kasih setelah... setelah....setelah NYIUM BIBIR GUAAA HUHUUU
"REYNALDDDDDD. Bisa gak sih gak pake nyium bibir?! Gue ini masih anak baik-baik ya" kata Gue kesell
"Upah bensin" kata nya. 'Watdepak' kata gue dalam hati

Hari ini adalah hari minggu, banyak orang yang berkeliaran untuk menikmati hari libur mereka. Saat ini sudah pukul 13.47, beberapa orang sudah berada di cafe untuk makan siang termasuk Rey, Juna,Nathan dan Aldo.
Juna,Nathan dan Aldo sudah berada di cafe ini untuk minum coffee dan mabar. Berbeda dengan Rey yang harus mengontrol cafe miliknya ini baru bisa ikut mabar, Ya cafe nya.
Selain sekolah Michiavelly, Rey juga memiliki Cafe yang dia bangun dengan modalnya sendiri. Sehingga kalau ada waktu dia akan melihat dan mengontrol Cafe nya ini.
Setelah mengontrol Cafe nya, Rey langsung duduk bersama temen-temennya. Tak lupa dengan coffee di tangannya.
"Rey, kuylah mabar" ajak Nathan yang masih asik dengan hpnya
"Iya nih, supaya pas 4 orang" kata Juna lalu menyeruput coffee nya
"Mabar apa?" Tanya Rey sambil mengeluarkan hp nya dari sakunya
"Biasa, PUBG" kata Aldo
"Ok" kata Rey lalu masuk ke aplikasi game itu
Mereka pun mabar, jangan kira Rey tidak suka bermain game. Bisa dibilang Rey ini gamers karna hampir semua game dia mainkan. PUBG, Mobile Legend, AOV, Free Fire, COD, dll. Bahkan dia yang paling tinggi rank nya daripada temen-temennya.
Mereka sudah asik bermain, tak lupa dengan umpatan-umpatan yang mereka keluarkan selama bermain game itu. Namun di tengah-tengah permainan, Rey mendapat panggilan yang membuatnya berdecak kesal padahal entar lagi WWCD( Winner Winner Chicken Dinner)
Rey pun yang awalnya kesal sampai-sampai mengumpat langsung kicep melihat nama yang tertera dihp nya itu. Rey pun mengangkat panggilan itu
"Hiks.....CyCy..... Tolongin guee...hikss.....cepetan dateng"
CyCy? Siapa CyCy? Ini gak salah sambung kan? Pikir Reynald
"Halo! Lo denger gak sihh Hiks" kata orang itu di telpon
"Lo Cathlyne kan?!" Tanya Rey memastikan
"Iya...hiks..lah.....cepetan dateng"

Rey pun langsung berdiri dari duduk nya lalu dengan secepat kilat dia pergi kerumah orang yang menelpon nya tadi yaitu Cathlyne. Juna dkk pun heran dengan temannya itu tapi mereka tetap melanjutkan permainannya yang ntar lagi Chicken
Setelah beberapa menit, Reynald sudah sampai didepan rumah Cathlyne. Dia pun langsung mengetuk pintu dan tak beberapa lama, pintu itu terbuka. Rey pun langsung mendapat pelukan dadakan yang membuatnya terhuyung beberapa saat.
"CyCy, gue takut" kata cewe yang dipelukannya itu
"Lo kenapa?" Tanya Rey yang mendorong Cathlyne agar dia bisa melihat wajahnya dengan jelas lalu menyeka air mata Cathlyne
"Itu....Tadi ad-"
"Ada apa?" Tanya Rey khawatir
"Kecoak" katanya yang membuat Rey cengo
"Kecoak?" Tanya Rey yang mendapat anggukan keras oleh Cathlyne yang membuat Rey menghela nafas kasar melihat gadis didepannya ini.
Ternyata gadis bar-bar kayak Cathlyne bisa takut ama kecoak bahkan sampai nangis gini. Daebakkk.
"Tadi pas gue nonton tv ada kecoak jalan dilayar tv, Gue kan takut kecoak apalagi tadi kecoaknya terbang-terbang, ya karna gue takut jadi gue nangis trus telpon lo supaya bantuin gue ngusir kecoaknya" kata Cathlyne panjang lebar yang membuat Rey terkekeh apalagi melihat wajah kesal + takut yang Cathlyne perlihatkan. Menurutnya itu menggemaskan.
"Kok ketawa? Bantuin buang" kata Cathlyne
"Dimana?" Tanya Rey. Cathlyne yang mendengar itu pun langsung menarik tangan Rey ke ruang tamu tempat kecoak itu berada.
"Itu kecoaknya" kata Cathlyne menunjuk kearah kecoak dari belakang Rey.
"Yaudah tunggu disini" kata Rey yang mendapat anggukan dari Cathlyne.
Rey pun mengambil sapu untuk mengiring kecoak itu keluar dari rumah. Bukannya keluar, malahan kecoak itu terbang yang membuat Cathlyne teriak dan langsung menghampiri Rey dan memeluknya.
"Huaaaaaa. Kecoak terbanggggg" teriak Cathlyne yang sudah ada dipelukan Rey sehingga membuat Rey tertawa terbahak-bahak
"Hahaha, look. Kecoaknya sudah pergi" kata Rey sambil menunjuk kecoak yang terbang keluar rumah.
"Huft(menghela nafas) bagus lah" kata Cathlyne tanpa melepaskan pelukannya
"Mau sampe kapan meluk gue" tanya Rey yang sebenarnya senang dipeluk begini
"Tunggu bentar. Jantung gue masih degdegan gara-gara tu kecoak" kata Cathlyne
"Siapa CyCy" tanya Rey dengan Cathlyne yang masih memeluknya.
"Lo" jawab Cathlyne sambil melepas pelukannya
"Gue?" Tanya Rey sambil mengerutkan dahinya
"Iya, Nama lo kan Reynald Cyrille Liam Michiavelly, jadi gue ambil Cyrille nya. Jadinya CyCy" kata Cathlyne
"Panggilan kesayangan?" Tanya Rey

Although James felt like a lot of hours had gone by, it was still pretty close to dusk.This was the magic that VR brought about, players were unable to keep track of time easily, meaning they could keep at it for a few hours and think a few days or a week had gone by.

By now, "Psycothic Faith"'s Faith Council was already starting to convene. Both "Brutal Faith"'s and "Blinding Faith"'s chase had ended up in failure. As such, they were both pretty damn pissed at how a single player managed to evade the whole Guild, especially when they had known he had to be pretty close by.

If they knew what James was up to, one couldn't even begin to imagine how envious they would be. One had to know that although Guilds mainly used numbers to fight eachother, it was a pretty important thing to keep a centralized group of strong experts.

The Faith Council was one such thing. In "Psycothic Faith", players that had the "Faith" suffix were the true core players of the Guild. To earn the right to be named as such, one had to previously contribute a lot to the Guild or be one of the main financial backers of the Guild.

It was now composed of five members, after "Brutal Faith" joined it. It was leaded by "Humble Faith", and then followed by "Blazing Faith", "Blinding Faith" , "Brazen Faith" and then "Brutal Faith". Their names weren't just for show, they were mostly a way of reflecting them personality wise.

"Psycothic Faith" had never gone through a life or death period, they had always laid low, and they had a bit of a backing due to "Humble Faith"'s family being rich. As such, their members had slowly grown more and more complacent.

"Hm, I hereby declare that the first Faith Council has started! Are there any pertinent situations that need answering right now?" - The one who spoke was their leader.

Everyone had been present during the Boss steal except for "Humble Faith". As such, he was the only one that had yet to know of what had happened.

When one said that their names described the personality of the people belonging to the Faith Council, they generally wouldn't be lying. "Brazen Faith" was a youthful member that had been promoted along with "Brutal Faith". They could be called the Sun and Moon of each other, as "Brazen Faith" was a cheerful teenager who always had a smile on his face, pure as the sun itself; "Brutal Faith" was the older brother, nearing his thirties, who almost never fought fair, and being brutal to his foes when needed.

"Yes, there has been an incident. There was a solo player that stole a Field Boss we were killing, apparently." - The one who spoke was "Brazen Faith". He was one of the few that had the face to keep smiling even when his boss got mad.

"Although we say stealing, all he did was get the last hit. He didn't take the Boss away nor did he not leave us no Experience or loot. In my opinion, it's better to study him first and see if he truly is a solo player before rising any problems with him.

"WHAT? Someone stole something from us? What's his name? Who does he think he is?"

Ah, there it is. Every member of the Faith Council was already expecting such an outcome. "Brazen" had already tried to mellow it a bit, but to no avail.

Just as said, their names reflected their personality. The only exception was the leader, as he was the typical brat who had been spoon-fed since birth. He was the complete opposite, a spoiled bastard who couldn't take a no for an answer.

"His name is "Blind Dreamcatcher", a Warrior. Although as soon as we got the notice of the stolen Boss we started looking for him, we still haven't found him yet. We have also stationed people at the few entrances of Fallen Oak Town to see if he would comeback. He hasn't yet been seen."

"Humble Faith" started fuming.

"Even if we haven't been able to catch him, atleast give a "Kill-on-sight" message to the players of our "Psycothic Faith"'s Guild. No one can stand in my path to glory in Terranova!"

"Although we haven't seen "Blind Dreamcatcher", there was a Rogue working with him, who we have already killed and gotten answers from. Apparently, "Blind Dreamcatcher" went offline a few minutes after our chase started"

Although Marcus didn't mean to rat out James, he had already been killed countless times. Although he wouldn't lose Experience as he had already been killed back to Level 0, he would still feel the pain from getting killed everytime. One thing that Terranova didn't enable was a Pain Limitor. Every time you got a cut, you'd feel pain as if you'd been cut. One could only imagine the torture Marcus had went through, seeing as he had lasted for a few hours. To make things worse, "Psycothic Faith"'s Priest resurrected him every time, so he didn't manage to get back to a city.

What they didn't know was that James had not logged out, he had only entered a zone which cut off communications, which made it look like he was indeed offline.

"That being said, I conclude this evening's Faith Council. Should one of you get "Blind Dreamcatcher", I will reward you personally."

The reactions to this announcement were mixed, as some looked thrilled to catch "Blind Dreamcatcher" and both "Brutal" and "Brazen" only thought James had not gone too overboard and only needed a slight roughing up.

What "Humble Faith" didn't know, was that as soon as his Guild had spawn-killed* Marcus, his Guild was already on a future hit-list. Being on that hit-list would be the nightmare for future top tier Guilds, not to mention a simple one such as "Psycothic Faith".

            Aku dengan cepat mangambil Dreamcatcher dari Berta dan ingin segera pergi darisana. Namun kelelawar-kelelawar itu tampak marah. Mereka memekik keras dan mulai mulukaiku. Aku berusaha mengusirnya dengan mengibas-ngibaskan tangan namun itu juga tidak mempan. Mereka semakin memojokkanku. Sesekali aku tersentak mundur menghindar.
"Pergi!" Seruku sambil tetap mengibaskan tangan tapi tentu saja itu tidak berarti apa-apa bagi mereka. Aku terdorong ke belakang lagi, kehilangan keseimbangan. Bukanya terpojok di dinding, aku malah masuk ke dalam lingkaran cahaya putih keemasan.
            Aku berteriak kencang dan terjatuh dengan kepala membentur lantai kayu. "Au!" Seruku ketika merasakan sakit di kepala bagian belakang. Aku serta merta bangkit dan betapa terkejutnya aku saat melihat sekelompok orang tengah menatapku.
"Siapa kalian?! Mengapa bisa ada dikamarku?" Tanyaku setengah berseru. Aku mundur selangkah ke belakang, menjaga jarak dengan mereka. Mereka juga tampak terkejut.
"Seharusnya kami yang bertanya begitu. Bagaimana bisa kau keluar dari perapian? Bagaimana kau bisa mengtahui markas kami?" Tanya salah seorang pria paruh baya. Ia tampak marah. Kumisnya yang menjulang panjang hingga melewati batas mulutnya tampak mengerikan, tak hanya itu, rambutnya yang keriting panjang dan tatapannya yang mengintimidasi juga membuatku tak dapat berkutik.
            Dreamcatcher yang semula kugenggam terlepas dengan sendirinya dan mengambang dihadapanku. Aku ternganga lebar, berusaha untuk mengambilnya kembali namun tak berhasil.
"Kuharap kau tau sedang berurusan dengan siapa," ujar pria paruh baya yang lain. Ia berambut coklat cepak, mengenakan pakaian yang rapi dan sedang mengacungkan tongkat kayu ke arah Dreamcatcher milikku. Aku menggeleng pelan, benar-benar tak tau apa yang sedang terjadi.
Tiba-tiba dua orang yang lain datang, sepasang pria dan wanita itu sama terkejutnya melihat kehadiranku. "Siapa dia?" Tanya wanita yang baru saja datang. Ia memiliki rambut Blonde dengan iris mata biru safir. "Dan bagaimana bisa ada di sini?" Timpal pria yang baru datang. Ia berambut pirang dengan iris mata yang sama seperti wanita berambut blonde.
"Penyusup," jawab pria berkumis. "Atau...bisa jadi mata-mata yang dikirim oleh Meliora," timpal pria cepak tanpa menurunkan tongkatnya. Mereka semua terkejut dengan apa yang barusan dikatakan oleh pria tersebut.
"Benda ini..." pria itu menatap Dreamcatcherku, membuat semua yang ada disana menatap ke arah yang sama, termasuk aku.
"Benda ini memiliki sihir kegelapan yang sangat pekat sedangkan lingkaran portal memiliki sihir yang kuat dari penyihir putih. Layaknya kutub utara dan selatan magnet, jika berdekatan, mereka akan saling menarik satu sama lain dan ketika menyatu, timbulah kekuatan yang super dahsyat, itu mengapa ia bisa melewati segel yang telah kita buat," penjelasan dari pria itu sontak membuatku semakin tidak mengerti.
"Sekarang tunggu apa lagi? Hancurkan saja benda itu!" Seru pria berkumis. Mendengarnya lantas membuatku bertriak "Jangan!" Mereka memandangiku lagi, kali ini lebih saksama.
Ditatap seperti itu membuatku gugup. "I-itu...itu satu-satunya Dreamcatcher yang membuat tidurku nyenyak. Kalian tau? Aku selalu diganggu dengan mimpi-mimpi aneh tentang penyihir. Dan aku mendapatkannya dari Psikiaterku, entah bagaimana tanggapannya jika Dreamcatcher itu kalian hancurkan, sebab mimpi itu juga sudah bertahun-tahun kualami dan rasanya sungguh menyiksa. Aku tidak menginginkan apa-apa dari kalian, aku hanya ingin kembali menjadi remaja normal tanpa dihantui bayang-banyang mimpi aneh itu lagi, kumohon...jangan hancurkan Dreamcatcher itu..." ujarku memelas pada mereka. Lagi dan lagi, mereka tampak terkejut mendengar penjelasanku. 
Seorang wanita berambut coklat tua sebahu itu perlahan mendekatiku. Ia menatapku dengan tatapan kagum. Aku menelan ludah dan menghindar. 
"Whoa, aku sama sekali tidak berbahaya," ujarnya seraya mengangkat kedua tangannya. Aku terdiam ragu. Walau bagaimanapun ia adalah orang asing yang bisa saja menyerangku sewaktu-waktu. "Boleh aku menyentuh wajahmu?" Tanyanya yang membuatku menggeleng cepat. 
"Baiklah, baiklah, aku hanya ingin menatap matamu lebih dekat," ujarnya. Aku terdiam kala ia menatap mataku lekat. Ia sumringah, seraya memegang tanganku erat.
 "Kaulah, kaulah 'Locvita' yang ada di ramalan itu!" Ujarnya antusias. "Hey! Dialah yang selama ini kita cari, dialah gadis yang diramalkan. Astaga! Aku tau ramalan itu benar adanya!!" Serunya girang kepada teman-temannya hingga loncat-loncat kecil. 
"Itu tidak mungkin!" Sergah pria berkumis. 
"Apalagi yang tidak mungkin? Tanda-tandanya ada semua pada diri gadis itu! Dan kau masih berani menyangkal?!" Wanita itu tampak tidak terima. 
"Well, mengapa tidak kita buktikan saja?" Tanya wanita berambut blonde yang langsung melepaskan sarung tangan di tangan kirinya.
"Alcie, kurasa itu ide buruk," ujar pria berambut pirang. Namun wanita blonde yang bernama Alcie itu tak menghiraukannya.
Ia melebarkan tangan kirinya ke arahku, serta merta cahaya merah keluar dari tangannya dan mengenaiku hingga membuatku terpental ke perapian, tersungkur. Aku terbatuk pelan. Dadaku sakit sekali, rasanya seperti ada tangan raksasa yang memukulku. Meski begitu aku masih bisa berdiri dan rasa sakit itu menghilang dengan cepat. 
Aku menatap ke arah mereka yang tampak terkejut melihatku. Alcie sendiri sampai menutup mulutnya dengan kedua tangan. "Mu-mustahil," lirihnya. Kulihat wanita berambut coklat yang tersenyum lebar menatapku dengan bangga. 
Tunggu, jadi sedari tadi aku...dikelilingi oleh penyihir?

Aku berusaha menghindar dari serangan-serangannya yang datang bertubi-tubi. Namun, satu serangan lagi mengenaiku dan membuatku tersungkur. 
"Ayo! Gunakan kekuatanmu, jangan hanya menghindar saja!" Seruan dari wanita berambut blonde a.k.a Alcie itu membuatku mengerang. 
Aku bangkit berdiri dan menghampirinya "Sudah kukatakan aku tidak memiliki kekuatan apapun! Aku bukan penyihir!" Seruku tepat didepan wajahnya. Setelah puas meneriakinya, aku meninggalkannya dan memilih duduk di depan pintu markas. 
Aku menyeka keringatku yang sudah membasahi baju. Kulihat tanganku yang sudah lebam akibat serangannya, sikuku juga lecet karena berkali-kali tersungkur, menghantam tanah. 
"Tapi kau adalah 'Locvita' Virginia, tak mungkin kau tak memiliki kekuatan darinya," ujar Alcie. Aku menghiraukannya. Kujelaskan berkali-kali sampai mulutku berbusa pun ia tak akan mendengarkan. 
"Sudahlah, kau terlalu keras mengajarinya," ujar wanita berambut coklat tua yang--baru kutahu bernama Felix. Alcie mengedikkan bahu tidak peduli. 
Felix duduk disebelahku, ia menyentuh tanganku yang lebam dan dengan ajaibnya lebam itu langsung hilang. Aku melebarkan mata melihatnya. Begitu juga dengan lecet di sikuku. Luka-luka yang bahkan tak kusadari juga menghilang dan aku merasa lebih baik. Lelah itu tergantikan oleh energi baru.
"Aku menguasai teknik penyembuhan, Lyra. Teknik yang diajarkan di sekolah sihir dulu," ujarnya sebelum aku bertanya.
Aku menatapnya kagum. Tak menyangka aku berada di dunia sihir yang ternyata benar-benar ada. 
"Tampaknya kau masih memiliki pertanyaan dalam benakmu ya?" Tanya Felix.
"Hmm," aku mengangguk. "Bahkan banyak," lanjutku sambil nyengir. Felix tertawa kecil.
"Apa yang ingin kau tau?" Pertanyaan itu bukan dari Felix, namun dari pria berambut pirang yang tiba-tiba muncul dihadapan kami.
"Semuanya. Tentang diriku yang sebenarnya, siapa itu Virginia dan masih banyak lagi," ujarku. Pria itu tampak berpikir sebelum menjawab. 
"Biar kuberitahu satu hal. Kau adalah 'Locvita' Virginia. Jika kau tak tau apa itu, biar kujelaskan lebih detail tapi kau harus janji untuk tidak menyelaku, paham?"
Aku mengangguk paham, menatapnya dengan rasa keingintahuan yang meledak-ledak.
"Locvita adalah ilmu sihir tingkat lanjut, berasal dari dua kata dalam bahasa Latin, yaitu 'Locus' yang berarti ruang dan 'Vita' yang berarti nyawa. Jika digabungkan akan berarti ruangan tempat menyimpan sebagian jiwa. Locvita hanya bisa digunakan oleh penyihir berkekuatan tinggi hingga bisa membagi jiwanya kedalam sebuah benda maupun makhluk hidup. Tujuannya tentu saja mencapai keabadian. Ia tidak akan bisa benar-benar mati karena sebagian jiwanya telah tersimpan di dalam 'Locvita' yang ia buat. Dan kau adalah 'Locvita' itu. Virginia sengaja memilih makhluk hidup yang menjadi 'Locvita'nya, agar suatu saat nanti orang itu melanjutkan tugasnya yang belum selesai. Ia sengaja mengirimkan kenangan dari kehidupannya dalam mimpimu agar kau mengenalnya. Dan juga untuk membantumu menyelesaikan misinya." Penjelasan darinya membuatku mangut-mangut dengan alis yang masih berkerut.
"Jadi, aku yang sebenarnya adalah Virginia?" Tanyaku. Ia menggeleng.
"Bukan, kau tetaplah Lyra, yang tau jati dirimu sesungguhnya hanyalah kau. Tapi kami menyebutmu 'Locvita', karena bagaimanapun sebagian jiwa Virginia ada dalam dirimu," jawab pria itu. Aku mengangguk paham. 
"Lalu, bagaimana dengan Virginia? Kehidupannya? Apakah ia benar-benar terbunuh?" Pertanyaanku membuat pria berambut pirang itu terkekeh  "Kau yang seharusnya lebih tau itu, Lyra. Bukankah kenangannya melekat padamu? Kau juga pasti tau kehidupannya yang tak dipedulikan oleh siapapun,"
"Oke, waktu cerita habis. Kau lanjut latihan lagi," ujar Alcie yang membuatku mendengus malas.

Malam bagiku tidak lebih dari sebuah penderitaan. Mimpi-mimpi itu kian lama kian menghantuiku, bukan hanya pada malam, namun juga pagi, sore bahkan setiap hari kilasan mimpi itu terasa begitu nyata. Psikiaterku menyarankan agar aku bertindak layaknya remaja normal pada umumnya. sudah kulakukan! Namun ketika aku benar-benar mengabaikan semua itu dan berhasil menjadi remaja normal, aku dikejutkan oleh sebuah fakta yang mau tak mau harus kuterima. Tentang takdirku yang harus merebut kembali batu pusaka dari tangan penyihir kegelapan dan keputusanku untuk mengembalikannya…atau malah menghancurkannya.

Aku Lyra, dan aku percaya kehidupan tidak sesederhana yang terlihat.

"UMAMIN ka nga sa amin, crush mo si Adrian nuh?" Nasamid naman ako sa biglaang tanong ni Jonnah sa 'kin. She's wearing that serious look again.
Pinagtawanan pa talaga nila ako nang makitang umuubo na sa harapan nila at humihingi ng tubig. Inabotan ako ni Judy ng tubig at mabilis naman akong nakarecover.

That's Jonnah's forte.
Ang mapaamin ka dahil kapag hindi, hindi ka niya tatantanan hanggang sa aamin ka. I closed my eyes before nodding, defeated.
"Obvious naman eh. Since the PRACTICUM thing, remember?" Gale raised both hands to quote and quote every single word she uttered with more emphasis on the word practicum.
"Then why bother asking if it's obvious? Duh!" bigla kong pagtataray. Obvious naman pala tinatanong pa sa 'kin eh.
"Frankly speaking, may chemistry kayo," Judy commented that stunned everyone.
"Ulitin mo nga, pa'no mag frankly speaking." Queenly imitated teasing Judy.
"Gusto mong makatikim ng sampal ko girl?" pikon naman agad si Judy.
"In english please." Queenly teased her more.
"Pa'no ba yan, I think hindi pa siya nakamove on sa ex niya?" seryosong sabi ni Jonnah bilang pambasag eksena sa dalawa.
"Pwedeng magtanong?" I leaned my body slightly forward and waved my hand as a sign for them to go closer.
"Nagtatanong ka na girl. Ano 'yon?" pilosopong sagot ni Gale.
"Bakit pala sila naghiwalay ni Abby?" I lowered down my voice just enough for them to hear it.
"Naintriga ka girl?" hirit naman nitong si Judy.
"Ganito kasi 'yon, itong si Abby bawal magkaboyfriend kasi super strict ng parents. In a secret relationship sina Abby at Adrian no'ng Grade 8 kami. Actually first love nila ang isa't isa, I don't know kung pa'no nalaman ng parents niya pero pagkatapos ng 2nd quarter, nalaman nalang namin na nagtransfer na pala ng school si Abby at naghiwalay sila ni Adrian."
Patango-tango lang kaming dalawa ni Queenly sa kuwento ni Jonnah since kami 'tong walang alam sa story nila.
"Sayang nga sila, kilig na kilig pa naman ako no'n. Supporters kaya ako." Sinamaan nila ng tingin si Judy so she shut up.
After that conversation, napaisip ako ng super duper. Tama bang magustuhan ko siya? Hindi pa ata siya nakamove totally sa ex niya. I realized love is not about how young or appropriate your age is. It comes in many forms and can happen at any moment of your life.
It's not how capable you are to love someone but how genuine you are to the ones you love. Perhaps, for their parents, it's inappropriate to have a relationship at that very young age but I think it's not their fault to fall in love at such age, right?
"CLASS DISMISS!"
Sa dami ng naisip ko ngayong araw, halo-halo na nga eh ay sa wakas narinig ko rin ang paboritong anunsiyo ng mga estudyante. Hindi muna ako sumabay sa kanila sa shortcut routine namin, tinatamad akong maglakad kaya sumakay na ko ng cab. Nagbihis ako agad pagkatapos magmano at nakipagbeso kay mama. Tinutukan ko lang 'yong first chat niya sa akin at sinubukang magreply pero dinedelete ko lang din naman. I don't know why I couldn't make up my mind what to chat. I attempted 5 times typing a message but in the end, I just type 'HEY' which was so weak of me.
"Hayst! I'm so lame."
Napasapo ako sa noo ko at tinapon ang sarili sa kama. Napabalikwas naman ako agad mula sa pagkahiga when I heard the notification bell.

At hindi na siya nagreply. Kinilig naman ako when he viewed my story at nagheart pa. After that convo, I decided to help mama in preparing the dinner and including her, she noticed my cheerfulness but I shrugged off while talking with papa via messenger.
"Hi Pa! Pagaling ka agad ha. I love you po! MWAH!" I said with all the lush of energy. Papa nodded as a reply and waved at me.
MABILIS lumipas ang araw at gabi at Friday na agad. Akalain niyo 'yon, nakaya ko siyang hintayin sa loob ng dalawang araw na hindi malungkot at matamlay sa klase. Ang sigla ko ngang nakatake down notes eh at inayos ko talaga ang cursive writing ko para hindi naman ako mapahiya kapag hiniram na niya ang notebook ko. Maaga ako pumasok sa eskwela at inabangan ang pintoan ng classroom para sa pagdating niya. Lumipas ang dalawang subjects sa umaga pero ni anino niya ay hindi ko nahagilap. Akala ko papasok na siya kasi 'yon ang sabi niya sa chat pero nawala 'yong excitement ko kasi wala pa rin siya. Napasimangot ako but still paying attention to the teacher.
"Ms. Engracia, can you share with the class your favorite story, and why? Any story that really interests you." I stood as Ms. Emerson called me.
"Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is my favorite story. Aside from the plot twist, I was fascinated by how the star-crossed lovers' love resulted to end their family's feud. That led me to the conclusion that tragedy often happens to teach us lessons in life." I answered fluently with my unique English accent that most people envied.
"Very well said, Ms. Engracia." The class applauded but still, I can't get him out of my mind.
After the class, I opened my phone to check for any chats. Lumiwanag naman ang mata ko and within a sec I opened his chatbox. Napangiti naman ako sa greetings niya. I clicked the photo he sent an hour ago at muntikan ko pang mabitawan ang phone dahil nakaramdam ako ng kiliti sa tiyan ko.

He's wearing a black shirt and a pink Adidas cap while holding a mint dreamcatcher. Tinago ko agad ang phone ko nang pinagtitinginan na ko ng mga kaibigan ko. Kanina pa kaya ako nakangiti? Nasa canteen pala kami ngayon enjoying our snacks.
"Girl, kakain ka or hindi? Kung may buhay lang 'yang banana fries, kanina pa 'yan nagtatampo sayo," maarteng sabi ni Queenly.
"Sino kasi 'yang kachat mo?" makulit na tanong ni Judy at akmang aagawin pa 'yong phone ko.
"Wala nga, let's just eat." Pagdadamot ko at tinikman na ang banana fries.
"Tapos na kaming kumain!" They burst out in unison.
"Others!" Gale crossed her arms in front of his chest, nagtatampo.
"Alam niyo, wag niyo na kasing pilitin kung ayaw. Magsasalita rin 'yan!" parinig naman ni Jonnah at nagpanggap na sa kisame nakatingin.
Luckily, the bell saved me. No lecture for the afternoon class since Filipino ang subject. Nag-elect lang ng officers para sa Buwan ng Wika. Automatic ding hindi kami kasali sa officers since classroom officers na kami. Nagselect lang ng mga contestants for the list of competitions and wala rin naman akong sinalihan since I'm not fluent with the language.
I feel like a traitor to my native land ko since I can speak the English language fluently than the national language. Sometimes, I can't comprehend profound Filipino passage and I badly need an English-Filipino dictionary with me to check the meanings.
I hope Rizal will not curse me in heaven.
The weekend came and I'm just enjoying my books in my room after helping mama do the general housecleaning. Pagkatapos maglinis ng bahay, umalis na siya para maggrocery. Due to tiredness, I feel a bit drowsy so I decided to take a nap. Just as I'm about to fall asleep, my phone suddenly beeped. Napabalikwas naman ako agad sa pagkakahiga when his name flashed on the screen. Dali-dali ko naman binuksan agad ang chat box.

Ano namang trip nito? Nangangamusta? Napatayo agad ako nang may kumatok sa main door. Ambilis ata nakabalik ni mama kaya pinagbuksan ko siya agad.
"May nakalimutan ka--" I quickly stepped back when he appeared in front of my door.
He's wearing a gray supreme shirt partnered with maong pants matched with white sneakers. Lord! Ano'ng prank 'to? Nananaginip ba ko? Ano'ng ginagawa niya dito sa village? Napako ako sa kinatatayuan ko na para bang naging bato sa presensiya niya. Hindi ko alam kung ano'ng dapat gawin, should I invite him inside? Serve him snacks? Or what the eff! My system suddenly froze. I can't make up my mind. I can't even bat my eyelashes.
"Souvenir from Ta-tagum," he stuttered but I still find it a piece of good music to my ears.
Inabot niya sa 'kin ang mint na dreamcatcher na kanina pa niya hawak-hawak. Hindi ko akalain na para sa 'kin pala 'yong dreamcatcher na nasa photo that he sent yesterday.
"Ayaw mo ba?" he asked nervously.
I managed to blink eventually and accepted the dreamcatcher from his hand.
"Thank you."
What is the meaning of this? I secretly placed my two fingers on my wrist right at the radial artery to check my pulse rate. It's unbelievably fast.
"I think I have to go," aniya sabay napakamot sa ulo.
Nahihiya ba siya? I find it cute though.
"Yeah, thanks dito." Napayuko ako baka kasi nagmumukhang kamatis na ko sa harap niya, nakakahiya.
He waved goodbye before he got inside the SUV. Sinundan ko ng tingin ang paalis na sasakyan hanggang sa 'di ko na ito makita. I closed the door and breathe heavily. I placed my palm on the left portion of my chest where I can hear my heart beating so hard. I raised the dreamcatcher above my head then kept it close to my chest like a treasure.
I covered my mouth to stop myself from screaming and ran inside my room. I inhaled a large amount of air and forcefully exhale saka tumili ng sobrang lakas sa kwarto dahil sa sobrang kilig. Binagsak ko ang sarili sa kama at nagpagulong-gulong.
Hindi pa ko nakuntento at tumayo talaga ako at naglundag-lundag pa sa foam hanggang sa mapagod ako at ibinagsak ang katawan sa kama. Ito pala ang feeling na bisitahin ka ni crush sa bahay at binigyan pa ako ng souvenir from Tagum City.
Aalagaan ko talaga 'tong dreamcatcher na bigay niya sa 'kin. Nagpagulong-gulong ulit ako sa kama kasi hindi talaga ako makamove on sa nangyari ngayong araw. Bumangon ako sa kama nang maalala ang sinabi ni mama dati sa 'kin na kapag ang lalaki naisipang bigyan ka ng kahit ano'ng regalo, ibig sabihin no'n special ka sa kanya.

I feel so special from the thought of it. Humiga ulit ako sa kama at tinitigan ang dream catcher. May napansin akong maliit na stainless feather at may nakaukit do'n.

Dahil masaya ako at inspired sa araw nato, I grabbed the guitar with my music book. Ibinuhos ko lahat sa papel ang lahat ng nararamdaman ko kasama ang saya, kilig, wonders, and dreams.
Sa second verse nilagay ko kung ano'ng nangyari kanina then I started singing it aloud before writing the chorus. The song was very meaningful, it reflected all the new feelings I'm having towards a person that I never felt before. Nang matapos ko ang chorus ay sinunod ko ang bridge all in all. Ang bridge talaga ang favorite part ko sa song at ang chorus.
It's amazing how this new feeling affects my songwriting. It's my first time to compose a song without consuming even an hour. Right after composing, I played the whole song and smiled constantly to myself when I sang the lyrics with all my heart and soul. When it ended, I rewrote the whole lyrics in my composition book and hung the dreamcatcher on the wall just above my bed. I smiled so wide as I stared at the beautiful dream catcher. Just like how it captures bad dreams, the person who gave it to me captured my heart.
"Adrian, please don't make my heart flutter."

High school life is the most unforgettable and colorful moments of a teenage journey. This is the hour where the spotlight for all the first time unraveled. At some point in this teenage milestone, Sofia has to face the hardest question of her life. Will she come to realize what matters the most? Or choose to face the naked truth that she's still young at heart?

UPDATE 5/2: I am out of the cabin and safe. DO NOT go to to Pikes Peak looking to be a hero, looking to find the mines, or looking for me. You will die. Avalanches, radon gas, mine collapses, etc. Do NOT be a fool.

edit: I took down the photo of Faye because someone started sending me creepy messages about it. I should have known better.



There are so many new developments it's hard to figure out how to cram it all into a  post. The morning after I spoke with my fiancée, Faye, on the satellite phone (and then was visited by the thing that mimics our voices), I got a call from Richard and Jason. In case you don't remember, they are my two best friends, and they're staying at my place and taking care of Faye while I'm gone. They're the only people I trust.

Richard stays up very late and sleeps in the morning, kind of like what I'm doing now. He does this for two reasons: to work on his art commissions, and to make sure Faye doesn't stab everyone to death and burn the house down in her sleep. The guys report that she is behaving quite normally and feeling good/being productive during the day, but then at night, she is unpredictable and weird. I feel like her soul is being cleaved in half; the two distinct sets of behavior are drifting farther from each other every day.

Around 1AM that night, Richard heard the voice of a young child, mumbling incoherently. He is up to speed on all of the unusual experiences that have plagues my fiancée and me, so he immediately got up to investigate. He looked out the kitchen window, which faces the same part of the forest where I saw the man mimicking Faye's sleepwalking movements. Richard didn't find anything, so he walked a circle around the house and realized that the sound was coming from our bedroom window.

He went inside and woke Jason up, and they stood outside the bedroom door, listening. They claimed they heard the distinct sounds of a child whispering and softly singing, and I bet you can guess which song – "oh soul me aaaah do, I'm a naked soul me aaah dooo" (the song Faye and I heard outside of the cabin on our second night, sung in a child's voice). Both of these dudes are super ripped climbing enthusiasts, and they said they had never been so creeped out in their entire lives. Jason knocked on the door and said, "Faye? Who's in there?" and he promptly heard the child go "Shhhh" and whisper something inaudible.

Richard pushed the door open, and said that Faye was standing in the corner of the room, in the dark, facing the wall. She was standing up on her toes, dragging her hands and nails down the wall and talking to herself. With her back turned to the guys, she said, "Ohhh, their skin is so perfect, which one which one, put him down in the hole."

Richard saw something out the window and hurried over to it. Jason stepped inside the room and reached out to put a hand on Faye's shoulder, but she whirled around quickly and covered her face with her hands. Her eyes were open, which is unusual for her when she sleepwalks. Then, and these are the exact words Jason used,

"She started speaking in the voice of a little kid."

She made whining and crying sounds, and rocked back and forth on her feet, cradling her arms as though she held a child. Then she turned around and started scratching at the wall again, still whispering in the kid's voice, saying things like "It's Faye. I can't see you. Are you up in the trees or down in the hole?" Then she started singing again.

Richard ran down the stairs and out the front door, barreling toward the tree line. From the window, he had seen a small child, walking around on its tippy toes, flailing its arms up in the air. On the phone he told me he could hear it singing while he watched it from the window. When Richard got about 20 yards away from the kid, it took off running on the balls of its feet, heading straight into the trees. Richard stayed in pursuit and went in after it. It was too dark for him to follow, and he lost the kid after a few moments. He wandered around for a few minutes, searching the area, and eventually heard the voice of an adult male.

Rich says he walked a few steps deeper into the grove and saw a huge man standing about 30 feet away, completely naked, looking up into the trees. There were lacerations or dark pockmarks of some sort all over his body. Now, Richard is about 6'1", 210 pounds and bulky/muscular – and he said this dude was way bigger than him. He said the man was perfectly still for several seconds, but then started rolling his head around, cracking his neck loudly, and started making gurgling and mumbling sounds. I guess Rich was paralyzed with fear, because he claims he stood there for an entire minute or more before running like hell back to the house. As he turned to get out of there, the man let out a long "Heelllllllllooooooooooo?" and as he did, his voice transformed. It became my voice. Richard said that the thing in the woods called out with my voice several times as he fled, wailing "please help me" and "they're gonna kill me tonight."

Jason says that he did not hear or see anything out the window, only Richard running back inside, ghost-white with terror. He said Richard actually cried. While they talked in the living room, Faye sat at the top of the stairs, just watching, wide awake, with a little smile on her face.

The next morning, they took her to her psychiatric appointment – the first she's ever had – and I will hopefully hear back on that soon. It kills me that I'm not there with her now.

I'm still stuck at Pikes Peak. It's like this place doesn't want me to leave. The ranger station shut down the entire road network on the mountain because of the huge blizzard that rolled in, and there are avalanche warnings. My road out of here is completely iced over, and one part of it has a snow collapse/mini avalanche (shut up I'm from California, where God pays attention). I'm in contact with the ranger (his name is Greg, just like Faye's dad, so that's why I avoid referring him by name in these updates), and he assures me they're working on getting the roads cleared every time it stops snowing. I missed my flight, but thankfully they gave me a voucher, so now I can just roll into the airport whenever I can.

I have enough food to feed an army, and the electricity here is surprisingly reliable, so I'm warm. The wifi dips out for 5-10 hours at a time, though. I'm working on Donkey Kong Country 2 and Secret of Mana on the SNES and writing about my experiences here in my spare time. I also slipped on the icy porch steps and fell on my side, so I've got an enormous bruise and it hurts like a bitch, but only when I breathe so I got that going for me.

/person named sweetrosemarie asked me if the cabin had a basement, and I had never thought to check. Outside, under the snowpack, and halfway covered with old chopped wood, I found a little locked door. The key was in the kitchen cupboard, and it turns out there's a decent-sized cellar under the house. Down inside, I found a ton of creepy shit. There is a bundle of long, black hair, several dozen jars of some rotten, mutant-looking shit, and tons of old books from the 60's and 70's. And lots of porno magazines.

There are also lots of sticks and yarn. All of the material necessary to make a dreamcatcher like the one hanging at the tree line behind the cabin. I didn't touch anything. I just noped straight out of there.

I've been thinking about something that /person named waittimeislame said to me the other day, which was "have you considered that it is not a dreamcatcher at all?" And he's right. I'm not an expert on Native American symbology or artifacts. It just looks kind of like a dreamcatcher to me, so I've been calling it one all this time. Tiwe, the Pueblo friend of the ranger, didn't call it that. He just said to leave it alone.

I'm wondering if that thing attracts the Impostor, instead of keeping it away. It could mark the house. I kind of want to move it for one night, to see what happens. After all, Tiwe blessed the entire cabin, so I feel quite safe. And I have a .357 magnum in case leaves don't protect me.

At about 9:30AM, there was a knock on the door. I grabbed the gun, suspecting another encounter with the Impostor. It was lightly snowing and gloomy, so I figured the sun was blocked enough that the creature would be willing to come out of the woods. But then I heard familiar voices, talking cheerfully. I looked out the window, and to my total surprise, it was Tiwe and his son Nathan! These badass motherfuckers had hiked up from the ranger's station in the snow to check on me. I let them in and they made me tea. I cannot tell you how happy I was to see them.

Tiwe brought me his own dreamcatcher. It was one he made specifically for me, and he told me I should hang it beside the creepy one. It's very colorful and ornate; I could tell he spent a lot of time on it. It's even got two beautiful hawk feathers dangling off it, which Nathan says represent freedom and unboundedness. He reiterated the importance of finding the engagement ring Faye had lost, and blessed the house again. I tried to get them to stay longer, but they had to get back down the mountain before the storm picked up, and told me I should come with them. We all knew I wouldn't. If I left with them, I'd be leaving Greg's truck, and I'd never have found what I came back for. I said goodbye and Tiwe hugged me. I wish that guy was my grandpa.

I took a nap after they left. I figured out how to sleep without being interrupted by the god damn voices in the forest – from 6AM to 3PM, it's pretty quiet outside, so I nap on and off. But something really bad happened this time. I woke up opening the bathroom window.

I've never sleepwalked before in my entire life. Faye's been sleeping next to me for five years, and she says I don't move, I don't speak, I don't snore, I don't steal sheets. I'm the most polite bed-buddy on earth. But when I came to, I was standing next to the toilet, both hands prying the frozen window open. It was about 2 inches up, and the freezing cold wind on my fingers is what woke me up. I slammed it shut and checked all the windows, ensuring that they were locked and sealed tight, then went back to bed. I dragged one of the living room chairs into the bedroom with me and propped it against the door, so that I'd knock it over if I got up again.

This did not work. At around 1PM, I woke up standing at the front door, and found myself pulling it open. The loud groans it issued were what snapped me out of my stupor. I slammed the door shut and looked out the window next to it, praying nothing was out there waiting for me at the tree line. I saw nothing.

Then, I remembered that I'd had a dream. Images of a huge hole carved into mountain surfaced in my mind. Snow and branches were caked all around the mouth of the entrance, and an impossible yawning blackness emanated from within. In the dream I just kind of stood there, gazing into the vacant face of the deep, listening to Faye's weakened cries.

I sat down on the couch and just sort of cried for about a half hour. I thought about what our lives had become, and how bad I missed her. I thought about all of the dreams we have of our future, the things that can never be if I don't figure out how to save her. I thought about all the promises I'll never keep if I die up here.

I decided that it would be best to hang the dreamcatcher sooner rather than later, because the clouds broke for a while and it was fantastically bright out. I got geared up and trudged across the snow with Tiwe's gift, and hung it on a branch about 3 feet away from the evil-looking one.

And that's when I saw it. Faye's engagement ring. It was dangling there right in front of me, as if to tease me. Someone had woven it into the strings of the dreamcatcher.

I stood there for a long time, right between the two objects. I couldn't figure out if some benevolent force was giving me a break, or if I was being taunted by whatever beings have haunted my footsteps ever since I arrived on the mountain. Retrieving the ring would require me to not only touch, but destroy, the creepy dreamcatcher. I had the thought to go ask qidian what I should do, but I feared that if I left even for one second, the ring would be gone when I got back. So I just tried to solve the riddle by myself. How I wish I'd brought the satellite phone out there with me. After a few minutes of standing there, I reasoned that Tiwe's dreamcatcher would probably do just as well in protecting me, if in fact that was the function of the original one. I also figured that if it were cursed or something, touching it couldn't actually be worse than leaving the ring there and allowing Faye to be completely consumed by her madness. If the ring has anything to do with the creatures who are controlling Faye and me while we sleep, then getting it back is a priority over not touching weird stuff in the woods.

So that's what I did. I broke the brittle thing apart and took my god damn ring back. What else could I have done?

And, as if on cue, I noticed something out of the corner of my eye. It was a person, standing in the snow beside a tree, about twenty feet from my left side. I was so scared I didn't look directly at him; I just watched him in my periphery and prayed he hadn't noticed me. It was a man with black and gray hair and dark clothes, facing away from me. His head was tilted all the way back, and he was looking way up at the tops of the trees. His limbs looked mangled and bent and elongated, even without looking right at him. I slid the ring into my pocket as slowly as I could, trying not to make a sound, and as I did the man hobbled around and faced me. I really didn't want to look now. I just slammed my eyes shut. I knew he was looking at me; I could feel his gaze on me. He started gurgling and making throaty noises, then said in a voice so threatening I can't even begin to describe,

"Felix, I knoooow youuuu…Felix, I knoooow youuuuu….Felix, I knoooow youuuuu…" over and over. I took off running and screaming like a bat out of hell. I screamed all the way back to the fucking cabin. I barricaded the front door with the couch and burned up half the sage I had left. I even prayed. Like, an actual prayer. I haven't done that since I was fifteen years old.

I'm really struggling to write this last part. It's taken me hours to finish this entry because I keep getting up to distract myself. The ranger isn't answering his phone, and nobody's at the station. Maybe the power is out. I don't know what I did by breaking that dreamcatcher, and I don't know what tonight is going to be like. But Faye, if you ever read this, and if something happens to me, don't forget. Your tenderness, your softened skin / all I needed / Your love is my tourniquet.

I have to say this even though I desperately want it not to be true.
