When I next awoke it was to a curtain drawn room and a comfortable nest of a little makeshift bed.

I must have been put into a spare converted room after I passed out. From the low light that seems though I can guess it must still be the same day, early evening at the latest. 

Out in the hall, I can see it's the same downstairs hall as the kitchen and washroom from earlier. I don't dare open the doors to the other rooms, out of respect more than anything else. 

My host is strange but kind, kinder than anyone's ever been to me for two lifetimes. I won't take that for granted, ever.

Since there are no signs here, Gable must be upstairs. 

The hall and stairway aren't entirely dark, little lights glow from geometrical shapes hang on the walls. They're like an improved version of glow in the dark star stickers I had in my bedroom as a kid.

God, this house is cool.

I  don't really know what I was expecting Gable to be doing.

Diligently looking over his research?

Elegantly reading a book?

Brewing some cool potions?

Summoning unholy forced from a realm beyond over a blood sacrifice?

Whatever I was expecting, it was not him curled up by the fire crocheting like a little old lady. 

Well, I suppose he's is an old man. It's a very cozy looking scene, hot cup of something by an open fire on a comfortable looking chair. If it weren't for all macabre bird bones and somewhat witchy looking materials it would be very holiday postcard-worthy.

Unless you're into that sort of thing.

"Awake I see, it's still early, now's a good a time as any to be up. Won't lose any sleep before bedtime, damn what even is bedtime for kids like you? How are you feeling now?"

Without looking up Gable seem to always know where I am and somehow I don't think that has anything to do with magic. 

"Much better, my throat feels scratchy but my nose is much better."

"Hmm, sounds about right. Another milk before bed then. Now stop hovering by the doorway and come try these on."

"Yes!"

I was only trying to be polite by not intruding but since I've been given permission I'll gladly make myself more comfortable. There's no other chair but plenty of cushions to pile up, all with a hand-knitted pattern cover. 

The items Gable pulls out for me to try were a poofy pair of crochet high waist shorts and matching long wool socks in the same soft walnut color. There were all of course near infant size and looked adorable. 

"Waaah you made these? Amazing!"

"Yes yes yes, best I could do. Your old clothes were...not fit....for anything. These were the quickest things to whip together"

"I understand completely if they're not salvageable, thank you so much Sir Gable."

"Just Gable is fine."

AH, it seems he's not one for such formalities. But it makes sense, given how he prefers to live away from most of society. Or that he even stays friends with the crazy old man that is my grampa, even after all these years. Better safe than sorry though, who gets kicked out for being too polite?

"I'm serious, they're so well made! You can do so much and crochet too, it's amazing."

"Great then put them on already."

"....is this magic?"

"I'm sorry?"

"The socks, are they magic?

"Well, no but I did enchant my tools?"

I don't think sir Gable understands how difficult it is to crochet socks normally. I'll just stick to knitting. Cozy as they are, they are a bit stiff and baggy but they could be rolled down to fit.
The shorts are very roomy but warm. I for one am glad to finally have something to cover down there.  

I just need some shoes and a cute hat for this adorable countryside outfit to be complete. A hat....a hat really would be helpful,...

"You don't seem too pleased but bear with it for now."

"Oh no I love them, they're very comfortable! I was just thinking about how nice a hat or something to cover my hair would be....it wasn't like this before you know. Tree sap accident."

I explain as I awkwardly gesture to my messy hair. It's much less of a bird's nest after a clean bath but it does look something quite pitiful. 

"Ah yes a hat, that I can do, but how about we try to neaten that feral child look of yours first?"

"Yes please, if you could be so kind."

"I don't know if there's much I can do with it so I hope you don't mind it short."

"Short hair doesn't bother me, it's okay even if I look like a boy/"

"Relax and try not to flinch much."

I'm lightly lifted and seated to the corner of a table before Gable covers my shoulders with a rag. He wets my hair with a comb and instead of pulling out a pair of scissors, he brings forth a green flame between his fingers. It follows his steady hand, wisping across my forehead, over my ears as it burns away the choppy uneven strands left dangling.  

It dances in warm spots at the back of my head and I try very hard not to clap in astonishment and applause. 

Why can't this magician be my grampa instead? Hey, can I request a trade-in?!

When he finishes I see my reflection for the first time in this life. 

Not in the moving water of a pond or river, nor in the face of my twin but clearly in an actual polished mirror. None of the funny reflective bronze stuff either, an actual clear mirror.  

Large sharp hazel brown eyes, bordering on gold, stares back at me. The round face of a small child, one who should be familiar, but isn't. It's the same baby heart-shaped face as Lilyanne's but fuller, tanner, with cheeks that are too warm and flushed. Decently dark if not a bit judgmental eyebrows, a little button nose, and a perpetual pout, all these things make up my face. 

So this is the face of a villain?

Indeed I make a good looking little boy, hair cropped short all around. However, my bangs and the sides were left to frame my round little face rather favoringly. My hair looks darker, straighter when it's this short, none of Lillyanne's fairytale curls except the barest of edges. 

I don't look like Lilyanne like this. I don't look like her at all, identical face or not. It's an entirely different aura, a clearly different child. 

I think I like it.

"It will grow back in time. "

I assume Gable responded to my silence with the assumption I'm disappointed and am quick to shower him in praise once again.  After all I am a little girl and thus a little vain, besides he's on team long hair himself. If anything, it would be difficult to pull off some of my future plots looking like this. What good is being twins if you can't switch around for your own gain? But that's an issue for further along in the future. 

"So what now? Do I just wait around for grampa to pick me up? As much as I'm glad to be here, and I really am grateful, I wouldn't want to impose too much on you. "

"For everyone's peace of mind yes, I'd prefer if you stayed where I can keep an eye on you. I'm sure your parents would prefer it that way as well. Honestly, what was Ronald thinking?"

"Did grampa send me out here to find you maybe?"

"Absolutely not, he doesn't even know I'm out here." 

"Didn't he leave to visit you in the North but a few months ago?"

"Never said I was there though, heh. Might have missed me this year."

It's like hide and seek then. What a strange friendship.

"Anyways there's plenty of room and you're welcome to stay Rosalia. I assume you're mentally old enough to not have to be babysat but given your current physical state, well I'm sure you understand."

"Yes, thank you very much for opening your home to me. Please don't mind me, I wouldn't want  to get in the way of your daily routine."

"No worries, Ronald does enough of that already. Compared to that trouble magmet, a smart behaved child like you is no bother. "

Truly a strange friendship between these two but that's a given.

"Then, please take care of me until then."

Just like Gable said, grampa is known for being late. 

My cold came and gone but that one night in the hobbit house turned to two then three and now going on near two weeks already. 

Gramps definitely overshot that '3 day's' pick up date. While it's exasperating of him, I'm secretly glad about it. Every day here has been enjoyably fascinating with the seemingly endless amount of research, books and pleasant company in this cottage.

Even if I do get assigned some daily household chores. Gable has no qualms with putting me to work and keeping me busy. It's really no big deal to me, who used to be a normal commoner, but wouldn't it be simpler to just use magic?

But hey what do I know?

If I'm told to sweep, organize some shelves and feed some strange giant 'farm' animals each morning well that's not too unreasonable. Those mutant eggs are great, even if the huge mother birds are very dinosaur-like terrifying. I always believed the T-rex had feathers and this may be what they looked like if shrunk down to the size of a goose. 

I don't mean to outstay my welcome but again, better under someone's supervision than off on my own getting eaten by a wild something. The worst thing that could happen to me here is maybe getting kicked by the old 'goat' during milking.

I'm actually having a very nice time playing farm house, it's very refreshing as it is a workout. 

Well, Gable has to keep self sufficiently feeding himself somehow. Of course, there would be a vegetable garden and some usable 'farm' animals in addition to all his strange herb plots. Though the more valuable and dangerous plants are kept in a nursery underground. 

Relying on the bounty of nature is fine and all but inconveniently time-consuming, though we've gone out for a foraging 'walk' twice already. Only then am I allowed to walk past the illusioned gates of the compound, beyond the firewood stacks and common vegetable patches.

By now I've been here long enough to accumulate a tiny pair of scrapped fur-lined leather boots and an enchanted weather resistant hooded cloak for when I go outside. The cloak was a dark brown, child sized and of course hand crochet. Upon my request and recalling a simple pattern from my other world, I asked for Gable to attach cute bear ears on the hood. 

Cuteness must always prevail.

The foraging trips were quite educational as I was introduced to many other plants and creatures I previously did not notice or knew the useful properties of. If I'm ever caught stranded in the woods again I'll have a much easier time.

But we ended up with much more wild mushrooms and common spring fruits since those are the things I can best identify. 

The rest of the time Gable is often working. He seems to have multiple projects going on all at once and even if he was only working on one thing I wouldn't be able to keep up with understanding it.

He's like a busy stay at home author or freelancer back in my world. 

Very self disciplined with his work and very likely to forget all sense of time. There is no clock here but Gable doesn't seem to need it anyways. The hobbit house is so full of skylights and bits and pieces of scattered natural windows that it's easy to judge the time of day. 

I don't know if it's my added pretense but he seems insistent on taking time out for three solid meals a day.

We had just popped an herb mushroom quiche into the kitchen oven when he mentioned it to me one afternoon. 

"You weren't a fighter were you."

Sudden but it wasn't a question, the slightly sad tone of voice told me he wasn't talking about the present. While he often treats me like a small child in need of assistance, which I am, Gable always speaks to me with an adult sense of respect.

 I appreciate that and in return never play games with him in the way I do others

"No...I mean I'll put up a fight if need be but, the people in my world didn't need to fight so much."

"You cook, you know a lot of recipes from what I've seen. You read a lot even without aid, somewhat education. Even without me you could forage the woods. You even know how to craft some...creative things."

He gestures to the flower headband on my head that I crochet a few evenings ago, curled in front of the fireplace as he made by the little cloak. They're simple to make and I crocheted two other plain ones as a thank you token for Gable, to keep his hair out the way if he needs it. 

What he meant though was that my behavior showed that I was a normal civilian. Softer, a support player, not a frontline warrior. That's how this world operates thought peace has finally come, the battles too fresh for most of the older generations. 

It's true though, I was living in a 1st world technologically advanced country. Where would I need to fight? Outside gym sessions or women's self defense classes where would I get the opportunity to? No, I was just a normal young woman who never even held a real weapon. Unless pepper spray counts?

"Ronald was, ...a soldier I mean. In his life before. Sometimes he forgets not everyone is one, too caught up in his world view. "

"It can't be just that....grampa treats my mother very gently, and my little sister too."

"Either too gentle or too rough, no in-between with that idiot."

I think I can understand what Gable is trying to defend here. He won't tell me grampa's origin story but in between the safe retelling of stories I would hear anyways, he slips up. He tells me bits and pieces about grampa that paints a very human picture. Not a god or an infallible hero, just a person, very possibly with PTSD, with a lot of goof ups, mistakes and good all mixed up. 

How gross.

I want to say it's a biased picture but Gable isn't the type of view anyone but with the truth, especially his best friend. It partly clashes and greatly fills out the image of the grampa in my head. Of course, I won't admit to sympathizing with him, can't make it that easy. 

"So he's either a brute of muscle head or a useless family dog?"

"Oh absolutely."

The dishes float to the sink to wash themselves and I undo the little apron over my new handmade overalls. I'm not a cartoon character, one outfit the entire time wasn't going to cut it and Gable is a very neat tailor. 

He was already crocheting more clothing for me anyways. If I drew out the clothes or a pattern I remembered from Home EC, it could be shortly produced. It was rather nice not having to make excuses for just knowing things. 

Our peaceful craft time in the evenings are more enjoyable than my downtime back home. 

I'm learning a lot out here, not just foraging and farm work. 

Potion brewing was never one of my strong points but Gable makes a splendid tutor, it being one of his specialties. I can already make my own cold droughts and work at enchanting simple things. My most glorious work, however, has to be making some much better tasting internal healing potions, low grade as they are. They're a little fizzy, like soda pop!

At first, I was concerned about falling behind on weapons training and such but as Gable reminds me, I was never much of a physical fighter. 

"By all means, if you have something keep at it. Can't have too many cards up your sleeve."

There's plenty of time as Gable rises early and I try to follow him, though I do still need my afternoon naps. So I run my daily exercises as I see fit, just to physically keep up. The farm and housework eliminated any need for a weight routine though. 

As much as I'm learning here, even through just observations, the best part is how I can just be. I may be small but I don;t have to play a part other than a polite house guest. I can speak freely without fearing giving out suspicious information because it's only Gable and the woods here and he already knows. No pressure and certainly no spying eyes on me, it's quite nice to live so freely. 

I understand why Gable keeps to himself so away from the rest of society now. 

While I can't live like he does, I still have a lot of growing up in this world to do, I really hope this peaceful time stretches out even for a little bit more. 

As all good things though it must come to an end. 

A tremor runs through the ground. 

I think it's an earthquake before Gable draws a circle into the air, a portal with camera vision of the surface showing through it. An airheaded man, far too familiar to me to be called handsome, appears wandering across the screen like a lost dog. 

"Rosa! Here girl, where are yooooouuu?"

Grampa's familiar voice vibrated through the ground from wherever he is on the surface and instead of joy or even relief at his late arrival I can't help but feel like cursing. Ah what an irritating sort of man. 

Why am I being called out like the common pet dog?!?!

"Rooooosa! Grampapa' is here! I know you're somewhere around here~ Well, at least the bag is....huh funny, swore I passed that tree before."

"...He's caught in your illusion isn't he?"

"Works every time, oh well better late than never. Just be glad it didn't take him 5 years this time kid."

You know what, I actually wouldn't mind that. 

Damn grampa.

You've probably heard this sort of story before.

 

Once upon a time, blah blah blah a boy and a girl fell love and everything was beautiful and perfect, except for this thing called life getting in their way. 

He was this cool foreign prince and she was basically perfect. Really it's a very boring run of the mill story. I'll even spoil it for you, they kill the villainess at the end.

Not the type of story I'd read personally.


So where do I fit into this?

Apparently I'm her older twin sister and the very very lucky fiance to the foreign prince. You know, the dead villainess? Sucks I know. 

Now I get to do it all over again from the beginning.

With the antidote kicking in it felt like a fog was lifting from my mind. Looking over at Batman I make sure to let him know that my mind is once again my own by clenching my right fist in a seemingly random pattern. With that done I turn to look  at Ivy as Batman picks himself up and wipes the blood coming from his nose.

"What are you doing?" asks Ivy. "Finish him." she continues. Bringing my hand up for her to see, I clench my fist in the familiar pattern that ejects the needle from my glove's fingertip and say with a smirk "Antidote." With a cry of frustration she turns and makes her way to the middle of the room. Narrowing her eyes at us, she raises her hand and summons a colossal Titan infected plant from the ground. Sitting on the plant and covering herself with a yellowish dome, she glares and rages at us "Since you don't want to cooperate you'll just have to become fertilizer."

I glance at Batman from the corner of my eyes and ask "What are the chances that she's being influenced by the Titan formula."

Never taking his eyes off our opponent, he replies "It's more than likely. User's of the formula have shown an increase in aggression and a decrease in logical thinking and decision making. It's possible that she was unknowingly affected at the same time as her plants."  

With that said we sprint towards our opponent birdarangs and batarangs held between our fingers respectively. No more words are spoken because there isn't a need to. We understand each other and our roles perfectly, we can tell what the other plans to do just from our body language. It's an understanding acquired through countless hours of training and fighting side by side. This is what makes Batman and Robin dangerous, this is what makes us the dynamic duo. It's not because Robin is a "mini Batman" as many like to say or because there's two of us. It's our near perfect teamwork and covering each other's weaknesses.

With a flick of the wrist Batman throws his batarangs at the dome only to have a vine come between them. However, just as his batarangs seem like they're going to hit the vine my birdarang flies by ricocheting of the latter two batarangs and sending the foremost one higher and overshooting the vine just in time for another batarang to collide with it and sending it right onto the minuscule gap on the dome. Not even acknowledging our supposed failure we continued on our way just as another vine intercepts me only to be cut down by Batman who jumped in front of just in time for me to use his back as a springboard to launch myself at the dome. Using the batarang stuck onto it as a grasp I hang from the dome long enough to spray our remaining batch of explosive gel onto the dome and back flipping to the ground as the gel combust and completely shatters the dome. Not even wasting a second, Batman throws two taser lines onto Ivy and shocks her with enough voltage to knock her out and off the plant into my arms waiting to catch her. Leaping back to avoid the falling plant I survey the room one last time to make sure that we didn't miss anything before setting her down and handcuffing her while Batman administers the antidote for the Titan formula.

With that done. Batman turns and looks at me for a few seconds before speaking. "Good work" He tells me. I smile back and ask "So, who's left?"

"Just the Joker" he answers. Before I can ask if he wants me to come with him he continues "There's no need for you to stay. Return to Gotham, I'll finish up here."

"Cool but radio me if you need help." Pressing a button on my left glove I call on the batwing and wait a few seconds for it to show up before jumping in. 

As I circle around the Island I make a show of leaving before finding an empty spot near a tower before parking and getting out while pulling a sniper rifle along with me. I climb the tower the set up the rifle and lay on my stomach. Looking through the scope of the rifle, I get a perfect view of a Titan Joker's back. Smirking I load the rifle with darts, full of ricin, a venom with no antidote, can kill within days and leaves no trace. I confiscated it from a member of the League of Assassins who was sent by Ra's al Ghul to test me. 

I aim and wait for him to turn to face me before firing the dart into his mouth. Naturally, he doesn't notice because not only does Titan increase aggression, physical stats and decreases the brain's function but it also almost completely erases sensory receptions. Which is why it takes running into the wall of a supermax prison, built to hold people like Bane and Killer Croc, at full speed just to daze someone doped up on the substance. With my work done I don't even spare the Joker a second glance before leaving the tower and returning to Gotham. As far as I'm concerned between the Titan formula destroying his body and the ricin, Joker is a walking corpse.

Dying and meeting a ROB was interesting. However like Dumbledore said, "After all, to the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure." And for me that was literally the truth. CYOA, SI, Jumpchain

He glided away from the balcony and headed off to make his night rounds. 

" Is there a reason, why you decided to threaten him like that, master?" Lisa asked him as she projects herself as a hologram and appeared with Thomas. 

Thomas simply smiled and didn't answer her. He heads inside the penthouse and decided to make himself a drink. 

He felt there is no need to add other people in their little secret. The lesser people know about the fact, the better.

" Let's just say he is a good son. And leave it at that. " with those words he headed inside, leaving a confused Artificial Intelligence. 

His drink doesn't mean wine, whiskey or anything alcoholic. Some drink to enjoy the intoxicated state, some just for fun, and some because it is good for health. 

But Thomas doesn't like to drink. He remembered drinking once in his last life when he completed high school and went to the picnic with his friends back then. 

He didn't appreciate it much and felt it isn't for him. Although he doesn't drink, doesn't mean he isn't addicted to any drink. 

 He entered the kitchen with a bag he carried with himself. He picked out some fresh oranges and started to shed their skin and run them through the grinder. 

He used the strainer and added a pinch of salt and some ice cubes from the fridge and took a sip. 

He is addicted to oranges. The taste of them whether it be as fruit or as the juice is something he liked more than anything. 

To savor his addiction, he even bought many orchards around the world. These orchards specialise in Valencia Orange, Navel orange as well as Clementine Orange variety. 

Thomas makes sure than enough stock of these oranges are left for himself to enjoy. His stock is completely separate, not even his family is allowed to touch it. 

In this matter, he is not willing to share. Not a single piece is shared with anyone. 

As for whether they earn him a profit or not, it is never a question. 


After he drunk the juice and went to another drink, he looks towards Lisa who has some question for himself.

" What about Mr. Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot? Are you going to agree to that deal he offered?" Lisa asked him.

Someone came to visit Thomas a few hours ago and they both have made a deal which initially reveals The Allens getting enormous profit and entry into Gotham City. He was Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot.  

This Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot is a very popular character in any series related to Gotham and Batman, for one very important reason, he is one of the main rivals and opponent of Batman. 

He is popularly known as Penguin. This man is of short and chubby stature and wears a tuxedo, top hat, monocle, white gloves, and spats. 

He is an eccentric criminal mastermind, known as much for his love of ornithology and trick umbrellas as for his already shady business dealings. 

The distinguishing feature of penguin and other villains of Batman is very contrasting. 

A mobster-type criminal, he fancies himself a "gentleman of crime". Unlike most Batman villains, he is sane and doesn't theme his crimes around a psychotic obsession; his intelligence and aristocratic personality starkly contrast against demented Batman villains. 

The Penguin recently became a mobster and nightclub owner who engages in quieter criminal activity whom Batman tolerates as a source of criminal underworld information. 

" Why should we not agree to his deal? This is a very good offer for us." He said seeing no reason to refuse the deal.

" But no business especially a veteran like Mr. Cobblepot can give us so many benefits. Don't we need to check the things there and then decide whether we should agree or not?" Lisa inquired her master.

Thomas laughed at her words. 

" That's where you got it all wrong, Lisa. Someone as smart and savvy business as he will not make such a big mistake of going us the cake. 

In fact, we are now the target and he is reaping benefits behind our back. We have become his shield.

Should we fall he will lose little, but if we rise then he can become our agent at Gotham and reap the benefits along with the underworld of Gotham? " Thomas revealed the things which Oswald, aka Penguin earned from the deal they have signed a couple of hours ago.

" If so then why do accept his offer and become a target?" I am very confused." Lisa inquiries her master and used the best confused looking expression she could find on the internet or through any platform which she is connected to.

Thomas shook his head at her effort to look cute and elaborated, "Whatever we do, Lisa, we will be targeted. So it is better for us to use this in our favour. 

We can use our difficult situation to get more benefits for us. We don't lack money, Lisa but we lack able men. 

Oswald is a smart shrewd man. He is trying to make connections. Even if he fails, he can have a good relation with us. 

As long as I am alive, Allens is going to thrive. This is something he understands better than anyone else. " 

Lisa tried to follow what he is trying to say, " So now we are waiting for people to come and make deals with us. With those deals, we can become one with the network of Gotham, later becoming a member of it. 

But, I still don't understand why? I have scanned the hat and the control machine, you don't have to personally come and get it, so why?" 


She is thinking about what is the main reason he has come to Gotham. So far nothing, not even the little talk with Batman was worth it. 

" Because of Gotham itself. " he finally replied to her question. 

"Huh" she gave a very human-like response to his answer. 

"Gotham is a very dangerous city where people are either crazy or become crazy trying to live here. This craziness is infectious. 

It has made many skilled people a victim to certain circumstances which made them become a villain. 

 And that the reason I am here.  What I wish to really do is get these people to work under me? They can boost the strength of our family. We have expanded greatly over the years but our lack of leaders at certain field have inhibited that growth. 

I cannot just use robots everywhere to replace them. So Gotham will get me the mid-level officers for the job?"
 
Thomas reason for coming to Gotham is to fill the ranks which are still empty.  How will this go, and who all are going to be a part of this?

Brett paced the kitchen for ten minutes before he went back outside and picked up a hammer and bucket of nails from the porch step. Andy followed him silently. The two men had worked together for many summers since Andy had shown up in Bindloss, checking animals and calving: they'd become friends, but Andy didn't know how to help his friend understand the kind of trauma the woman inside his house had gone through. He didn't need to hear the story to be able to tell it. 
 Brett held a two by four in place and started hammering a nail into place: the fence around the small garden had fallen into disrepair since his aunt wasn't around to tend it but doing something close to the house seemed important. Andy followed him, holding a board, checking to see if it was square: the two fell into a comfortable silence.

 Uncle Ned came back for lunch, saw Brett with Andy and noticed the tractor. The older man nodded and got up on the tractor without a word and went back to work. Brett kept watching for Anna. She finally came out on the porch, two hours later, rubbing her eyes and finally letting her own tears flow. She said she was sorry to Brett and he knew it was because she couldn't tell him. "She's asleep," she told him, "She'll be hungry when she wakes up, she said to tell you she wants a burger and orange pop," she looked at him quizzically when he chuckled, "she said you'd know where to find it."

 "I do," Brett forced a smile. "I can live without the details, Anna," he said, "But will she be okay and what does she need?"

 "Rest," Anna told him, "A lot of rest and a lot of gentleness and eventually counseling." She met his gaze straight on, "and for God's sake do not call her sunshine," she whispered the last word like it was evil, "I'd avoid the word all together." She opened the truck door, "And hide your electric razors and scissors," she glanced back toward the house, "I'm surprised she hasn't done it already, but she wants her hair gone, it's a horrible reminder of everything." She looked at her brother, "she knew about the baby, I told her about the procedure, she cried but said to say thank you." Andy nodded, he knew Anna would tell him what he needed to know after they'd left. 

 "Anna," Brett started but she stopped him. 

"Brett, that woman in there has been through hell, that's all I can tell you. She'll tell you more if, and when, she's ready. In the meantime: I've convinced her she needs to stay here, with you at the Bogs." Brett's head shot up, "She needs to rest, she needs to sleep in a bed where she'll feel safe. She can move around a bit: it will do her good, but you shouldn't let her go for walks outside the house alone any further than say the garden from your front porch."

 Brett nodded and waved as the twins drove away, jumped onto the porch in one step. He took off his boots and hat and walked quickly to the guest room. Maisey's eyes were closed, her cheeks stained with tears. He sat quietly in the wicker chair next to the bed rested his head on his hands and started to pray.

 "I'll be okay, Cowboy," she told him softly. Brett didn't know what to say back. "Any chance you brought in any of my stuff? I need a shower and a clean set of clothes. Judging by the smell of me I've been in these ones about a week."

 "I'll go get you anything you need," he told her, "even if I have to drive four hours to Medicine Hat to get it."

 She smiled, "I'll settle for the burgundy hiking pack that's in the bed of the truck and the blue tote it should be leaning on. Then once I've got those I'll need the two coolers, so I can go through the food. Anna says I'm not allowed to lift things for a couple days."

 He nodded and left the room, returning a few minutes later with the items she asked for. He helped her up from the bed and showed her where to find the bathroom and went back out to her truck. Uncle Ned met him in the yard. "Well?"

 "She's going to live." Brett told him.

"Thank God!" Ned responded, "Maybe now you'll stop moping about and get the work done!"

Brett smiled warmly at his uncle, "You okay with her staying for a while?"

"She in trouble?"

"Anna says she needs a lot of rest after what she's been through but can't say more than that."

"What's the girl say?"

"That she's not ready to tell a stranger who was brawling what or who left her in a bruised and broken state."

"Afraid you'll be just like him." Ned said astutely.

"I think so."

"Well, you'd best show her us Franks are not women beaters," Ned said matter-of-factly. "Anna say you need to stay close?"

"Yessir," Brett nodded, "She's afraid Maisey will overdo it." Ned nodded, "You're safe to go in for lunch now. I'll see to dinner once I bring in her coolers." Brett turned and then turned back, "Uncle Ned?" Ned turned with the screen door in hand, "Thank you for taking me in and raising me right. I could have been just like him." Ned gave a slight nod and went on to fix his lunch.

Maisey stood under the hot water for what seemed like forever. She let the steam wash away to tightness in her chest, the streaks of tears and dirt from her face. Eventually she lathered and washed her hair with some lavender scented shampoo her therapist had recommended, dressed, combed her hair and stepped out of the hall. She could hear movement in the direction Brett had said was the kitchen, but she escaped into the room she'd been staying in and sat down in the wicker chair instead. She'd left the door open: closed doors made her uncomfortable and she knew that eventually he would come check on her.

When he did it was to bring her a burger wrapped in paper towel and a glass of ice with a can of C-Plus: she laughed and took a big bite of the burger. She moaned. She could help herself: the burger was perfectly cooked and the cheese just barely melted, there was a hint of mayo and mustard with pickles and bacon but no lettuce or tomato. Smiling he left her to eat.

"Thank you." She said, bringing her plate and glass back to the kitchen. He nodded and continued slicing pickles until she touched his arm. "No, Brett, really thank you. You likely saved my life the other night."

"We don't have to talk about it," he told her, "I'm just glad you're okay."

"You're more intimidating in the daylight," she told him, changing the subject, "I don't remember you scowling."

He laughed, "I hadn't just realized we were down to our last two slices of bacon in the fridge," he told her with a straight face, "and with company around who likes bacon and cheddar burgers that's a problem!" Maisey couldn't help but laugh, "how can I help?" she asked.

"Sit," he told her, "Anna says you need rest."

"I've rested for nearly a week from what Anna tells me," she retorted, "I need to do something."

"My aunt used to say that when the body needed resting there were always blankets to stitch or socks to darn."

"I am useless at darning," she retorted, "but I can crochet. Where's her supplies?" Brett watched her to make sure she was serious, then lead her back to the room she'd been resting in and opened the closet. She gasped when she realized the closet opened up into a table and hid hundreds of balls of bright and dark colored yarns. Brett smiled at the pleasure she couldn't hide as she handled all the yarns and selected two and a hook then followed him back to the kitchen.

After a few minutes he realized that suggesting she crochet was a mistake. She was frustrated and struggling with the fractured hand. Fresh tears were welling in her eyes when he took the hook and yarn and set them aside. He wiped them with his thumbs holding her face in his hands and rested his forehead against hers. "It's okay." He told her. 

"I feel useless" she told him, "one more thing I loved that he took from me." She stopped herself from saying more.

"I know," Brett said. "Are you up for a little walk, I want to show you something." She nodded and took his hand when he offered it, feeling comfort in his nearness.

'Cunt,' came the whispered voice in her mind, 'useless, stupid, good for nothing bitch you can't get rid of me. I'll find you wherever you go.'  She froze as she fought to control the fear. Brett stopped and looked at her. He took her in both his arms and hugged her, he couldn't help himself, she looked so lost and scared standing frozen. She seemed startled by the action, fearful that he was going to hurt her and then relieved when she recognized him. He hid the anger that made him want to demand a name from her. She leaned into the hug carefully and whispered her thanks into his shirt as a tear slipped down her cheeks.

It was too much, Maisey realised. It was too much to hope that she could pretend it hadn't happened. It was too much to hope that being away could protect her any more than the restraining order had been able to. Without her therapist she didn't know if she could keep going and not fall back into another coma. She breathed in the smell of Brett: leather and animals, fresh air and Old Spice. She inhaled deeply, not caring that he knew she was drawing strength from the smell of him. Not realizing what having her so close and moaning from the joy of his scent was doing to him. He thought of cow manure and cleaning the slues pond.

Finally, she straightened and indicated they could keep going. He led her around the side of the house to where she saw a gently rocking swing, a bucket with hammer and nails was against one leg of the swing. She looked askance at him: "At night you've got a great view of Orion's belt all year long by sitting right there in that swing." He pointed, "It was my aunt's favorite place to sit with me and read."

"I used to read," she told him, "I haven't sat and enjoyed a book in a long time."

"I can go bring you one," he told her, "and cushions and a blanket for when you get cold."

"Will you sit with me?" she asked, he nodded so she agreed. They sat in silence for a while, the book in her hands. Brett stared out over the range remembering an earlier time in his life when it had been his aunt comforting him. "It's strange," Maisey said finally. "I don't usually talk to strangers, I've been very much on the move constantly since early March yet here I am with a guy I've really only known a few hours feeling as comfortable as if you were family." She cocked her head and Brett noticed gold flecks in her blue eyes.

Brett nodded and watched a small orange cat pawing at a rope left hanging on the nearest fence while it rolled in the dust below. He waited, he didn't know what to say: she was right, they were strangers, yet he felt as comfortable with her as he did with Ned. He wanted to protect her the way he would Anna or any of the other ladies he knew. A soft buzz interrupted his thoughts, he pulled his cell phone out of his chest pocket and answered it.

Maisey watched him talk without listening. He had brown hair, she could see now that he wasn't wearing a cowboy hat, and he was built the way all the cowboys she'd ever seen on TV were: skinny but muscular. His hands were calloused from hard work but soft like he must wear gloves to protect them. He had an early season tan with a white band across his forehead where his cowboy hat must block the sun from touching his face. He wore a dark t-shirt and jeans—she couldn't tell what brand, but it didn't matter: his boots completed the look, he was the cowboy she'd named him. 

Whomever was on the phone made him frown, something made her want to reach over and wipe away the frustration she was seeing there. She looked down at the book and read the title: The Astronaut's Wife. She dropped it like it was fire, letting it fall to the ground and started to walk as quickly as her ribs would let her go. She had to get away before the memories overwhelmed her.

When she found the drive way she kept walking, not stopping. She didn't have her keys, or she would have climbed into her truck and driven away. She wanted to run. She brushed unbidden tears away and just kept walking.

Brett knew the minute she stood up, but he didn't follow her, assumed she had to go to the bathroom, and kept listening to Andy's instructions for the summer inoculations for the herd. He stood and moved to the fence, looking down the length of it in both directions before he froze and hung up on Andy.

He stood watching for a minute before realizing she wasn't going to stop, swore and ran for his keys: she'd made it further than he thought she should have been able to considering her ribs. He climbed into the cab of his truck and drove after her, she didn't stop when he slowed so he pulled his truck in front of her and jumped out, "Stop Maisey."

"Get out of my way," she told him and tried to go around him: he put his hands on her shoulders and dropped them when she flinched. "Don't touch me!" she seethed and suddenly he realized she wasn't seeing him. It was a memory.

He softened his voice even though he wanted nothing better than to get back in his truck and hunt down the son of a goat who made her look so lost and scared. "Maisey you're okay now, it's Brett, I'm not going to hurt you. I just want to take you back to the house so you can rest." He watched her blink, waited for her to scream at him or push him away, instead she fought the tears and the memories and reached for him. He pulled her into a hug and held her, stroking her loose hair, "You're safe with me Maisey." 

"I won't be safe anywhere until I can get it all out of my head," she whispered into his neck, letting him hold her and relishing in the safety she felt. "I'm sorry."

"Don't be," he told her. "Never be that."

She chuckled and leaned away from him, noticing that his chin rested lightly on her head, "How tall are you anyway?" she asked, "I'm almost 6 feet myself and it's not often I have to look up at someone."

Brett smiled back, "6'5" he told her. "It's actually quite the treat not to have to go down on both knees to talk to a woman," he teased, "You better now?" She smiled back at him and Brett knew if circumstances were different he'd want to kiss her, but they weren't so he kept his distance. "Can you get in the truck on your own or should I lift you in?"

She glared at him and he chuckled as she climbed into the cab, settling near the door on the other side. They returned to the house in silence and with a sad sigh she retreated to the room she'd woken up in claiming she needed to rest. Brett watched her go and felt her retreating from him.

He went back to work in the kitchen, getting dinner fixings ready and deep in thought. Maisey slept through dinner, Brett checked in on her a few times and called Anna to report on the day. Anna reminded him to encourage her to relax and rest then went to his room to shower and sleep knowing he had chores to do.

Leaving one life for a new start: city girl Maisey finds change in an out of the way town in an unexpected place. Can she find her way back or will she be forever lost?

One quarter hour before

The smile of the Joker then start to look more sinister "He He He. Darling, Darling, Darling. You don't know? Apart from the kind service we received, that's because it much more easier to escape of course"
Hearing that, Mallory suddenly felt like something was wrong, so she wanted to call for Batman but

BOOM!

a sound of an explosion suddenly resound in the hallway. "What's happening upstairs?" cried Mallory surprised by the noise. She then noticed Batman pulling out his grappling gun as he ran to the exit door. More worried by the words pronounced by the Joker and reassuring herself that he could handle it by himself, Mallory reported her attention on the other. 
"So, what was you trying to say by much easier to escape? Preparing a breakthrough from the asylum? Not happening under my watch Joker. Hear me?"

But like the destiny wanted to mock upon her, a snort suddenly resound from the wall leading to sewers behind, getting her attention. As she was turning her head to the wall, a transparent door like a ghost appeared in front of and pass through her without making any harm to her.
Reacting quickly, Mallory jumped Next to the range of that door who already vanished like it didn't exist, but next second after, the door of Joker was opened violently and mysteriously traced the exact same path with the exact same speed of the previous ghost door.
Seeing that Mallory was totally unharmed, the Joker chuckled and said "I never understood how you always seem to be able to guess what I will do to you. Question is, did we know each other before the chemical facility? That would explain why you know me so well hehe"
Mallory took one of her blowpipe from her back and and shoot a dart from it to the recently free Joker "You wish!"
But the dart was stopped by the pillow Joker was holding in his hand. "You miss darling!" said mockingly Joker as he was rushing to her. Not afraid of confronting him, Mallory took a fighting stance and at the same time her second blowpipe to use them as stick. CRACK CRACK CRACK
The wall near her suddenly started to Cracked all over. But then it's stopped when a voice was suddenly heard behind it
"Hey are you even sure this is the right wall?"
"Solomon Grundy know all the sewers" replied a heavy voice "Great than blow that wall for us, would you?" 
Following that, a silence cover the place for a few second before BOOM! BOOM! BOOOM! 
The wall was blowing up. Rubble started to flew inside the asylum and nearly touched Mallory who was seven meter away from the walls. In fact, the rubble was going to hit her, but before it could do so, Mallory start to see the ghost image of them like earlier with door and just avoid the path were they landed. 
For the Joker, it only seems that she took three steps aside randomly and when the rubble landed she just happened to miraculously be in the only place were no rocks land. 
When Mallory gaze on the newly create entrance, her body tensen up and eyes became more sharper. Behind the hole, 5 people start to slowly walk inside. 
The first one was a big man int the 2 meter tall with grey skin. Looking like a zombie out of a Frank Einstein movie. The second one was a slender and voluptuous woman dress in green tight suit and surrounded by many vines and plants. The two next people who came out were at the same size of Mallory who was 1.50 meter tall. One of them was dressed in a green costume with a big Hat in the head, while the other was less humanoid and look like a heap of clay with two eyes and a mouth. The last one, was too in a green costume and a hat, but he was much more taller and his costume had question mark all over. Besides he was holding a cane with a question mark on the top. 

"Oh am I seeing things? Isn't that the little ninja who follow Batman sometimes? What are you doing here cutie?" Said Poison Ivy while searching for something. Noticing her behaviour Joker intervened while pouting "Don't bother looking everywhere, Batty went upstairs to play with others. He don't even consider us" hearing that, the face of all the vilains clear up and Poison Ivy did a sign to Joker to come over and said to the Riddler "Free the others"  and immediately return from where she went. 
Not wanting to let them go, Mallory shoot seven darts in a row to them aiming for riddler and the other. But sadly only one hit the mark knocking out a Mad Hatter unprepared, the others were all deflected by Poison Ivy's vines. 
Seeing that, Mallory prepare to engage the enemy face to face, but before she could do anything, a sound of alarm resound in the hallway and a second after all the room were opened.
"You gotta be f**king kidding me here" muttered Mallory remorseful as she thinking that she should have followed Batman instead of staying here.
Don't be wrong, Mallory love fighting, but when she saw the thirty and plus crazy inmates going out of cells, knowing that the level - 2 was were the most madmen and dangerous people were here she started to have a headache. But this was only the beginning.

Back to the present

Batman and Mallory were now putting the sleeping patients back to their room. While doing so, Batman suddenly noticed that in one of them a man was already inside and awake. Seeing that, Batman deduced that he didn't even bother to try to escape.

"Why didn't you try to escape Alberto?" asked a curious Batman. "Why should I?" replied Alberto "They plan put an end to a Holiday, why should I help them doing it?" what he said make sense, but being the only one who could lead him to Holiday batman keeps asking questions.
"Who is the second Holiday?" he asked with threatening tone but Alberto just replied calmly "Wrong question Batman. What you should ask is why did that person become Holiday? I become Holiday because nobody, not even my parents could remember my birthday, but what about that person? Even I don't know it but that would explain many things" said mysteriously Alberto making Batman think more intensely before asking again "Then who is the next victim?"  this time Alberto sigh heavily and shook his head "Still wrong question Batman. I'm not that Holiday, how should I know? But if you really want information about Holiday, I know someone. Tony Zucco, the Mafioso under Maroni. It was him who introduced me to the True Holiday so that I can become a Holiday too"
"What? There is more Holiday except for you two?" Asked Batman frowning. "Well, there's not just one holiday in the calendar, so why should we be the only Holiday? Anyway, don't bother asking me who is the True Holiday because I never met him in person, but Tony Zucco may know him."
"And were do I find Zucco?" asked Batman
"I don't know, but normally he had a business tomorrow with C.C Haly the guy who managed  the Haly's Circus. I know that because I was supposed to come with him so I could finally met the True Holiday" hearing that, Batman couldn't help but asked "Then why didn't you escape to do it?" "Because, Batman my Holiday is finish" replied mysteriously Alberto.


An hour later, on the road inside the Batmobile, the atmosphere was heavy.
"So, we're not fighting against one or two Holiday, but as many holidays there's in the calendar?" Resume Mallory sighing, before suddenly laughing "I'm glad that they didn't take the calendar of India or Colombia as reference. Or else, their would've been a never ending amount of Holiday. Imagine, 18 people like Alberto...." thinking of that, she start to shook her head as a headache was coming. "But still, what a coincidence that I've happened to plan with auntie to go tomorrow in the Haly's Circus because my friend will perform for the first time" "Yes what a coincidence. But like that, I'm sure that you will not be able to mess up with the mission" said Batman with smile. That sentence cause Mallory to pout "I already told you that it wasn't my fault! How should I know that they plans to made everyone escape?" said Mallory refusing to take the blame cause the smile of Batman to grow wider. "Well, wherever they are now, we wouldn't be able to found them for the moment. Dawn is coming soon, so I'll take you home and take the time to call your friend Grayson to ask him for two tickets for tonight"
"What?? The great Bruce Wayne don't have the money to afford two place in a circus?" Said Mallory teasingly. "Of course I do" replied Batman "Bruce to keep being rich, you have to keep your money by your side right?" "Stingy" said Mallory by pulling her tongue.


At the same time, in Haley's Circus. A young boy in his 12 who just wake up, was now wandering around in the Caravans in the circus. Because he was excited that today he will finally make his first entry in the show, Dick Gayson couldn't sleep well. Having nothing better to do, he start jumping from caravan to caravan without making a noise so he'll no wake up the others.
Even though it was the night, but everybody knows that in Gotham, night was when the city was really active and no sound in the night doesn't meant that there was no one.
As he was keep jumping around, he suddenly heard some noise coming from C.C Haly, the director of the circus.

Curious, Dick went to see what was happening. As he was getting close, he start to hear furious voices coming from the caravan
"Haly, think very carefully about it. All I ask, is to you to keep a dozen of box, until you get out of the city. You will even be paid for that, so why do you refusing my offer?" said the angry voice. 
"...Bu..But I don't want to involve my employees with that "replied the trembling voice of Haly. Following that, a sigh was heard before "Haley, you concidere everyone here like your own family hun? And if remember correctly, the Flying Grayson are the main star of your circus right?" "Y..Yes..." replied Haley. They do something really dangerous as job, not surprising that they are so loved by spectators. I even heard that they child will perform today" Said the man with low tone in voice before saying coldly "A dangerous job like that, for a hole family. What will very tragic if they happen to have an accident"

After saying that, the man went away with a "I will come back tonight, think about it a little" as threat planing above Haley head.

"Sweetheart? Are you ready? We will be late you know? It's not like you will going on a date with him you know" Marisa Troswer said from the Ground floor complaining with a smile. Thirty seconds later, the sound of someone coming downstairs was heard, and Mallory Made his Made her entrance in an Elegant black tie dress with evening shoes and gloves. If Marisa didn't know were they were going, she would think that Mallory was going Into some Gala. But what made her laugh, was what Mallory said when she came to her side "It took me some time, only and said only, because I didn't have anything else to wear. I was looking for a better dress, but I couldn't find anything that wouldn't put Dick in shame for his first show so I had worn that poor dress. And I already told you, I don't like him! His just a friend!" said Mallory with disdain 
"Sure, sure, sweetheart. That why you're wearing a dress of more than fifteen million dollars for just a show in a circus" Yes Marisa while trying hard to not laugh. "Yes, exactly. I should really had to prepare a more fine dress for the occasion that one is to awful, but what can I do? Now Let's hurry up, uncle Bruce is waiting for us that girl Selina" she said as run to the front door while her mother could but muttered with a smile as she shake her head "Youngsters of today..."

Haly's Circus

When Marisa and Co finally reach the Circus, the show being in an hour the spectators were not many at this time.
As soon as the car stopped, Mallory exited with a rush causing Selina Kyle to ask "Why is little monkey that excited for a circus show? It's her favourite thing?"
That question made both Bruce and Marisa to laugh loud making Selina puzzled "Well, you could say that, if you concidere some enchanting eyes like a part of the show" Said Marisa mischievously "Oh, so it's a boy?" Said Selina with a smile understanding immediately "No wonder". She didn't said it loud, but Mallory did heard her, and even though she start to blush, she still act like she didn't hear them walk straight to the circus in a rapid pace.

When they reach the entry desk, a boy with brown hair and blue eyes with a cute face was waiting for them. When noticed them, he was going to met them, but stopped his track when his eyes was attracted by Mallory.
Whe she that, Mallory panicked and start to explain herself "I know that it's ugly and I should have probably wore something more beautiful because it your first time but I couldn't find something worthy in time. I'm sorry" when Dick heard her apologies, he hurriedly stopped her "No, no your dress is fine and your truly beautiful, that why I was so stunned. Don't worry you look very good" Hearing the compliment, Mallory start to smile foolishly, causing the three adults behind to chuckled.
When enter in the circus, Dick propose to them to do a little tour before the show start and Bruce more than anyone agreed eagerly pretending that not doing anything for hour will make him die. During the ride, Dick almost never keep his away from Mallory for more than five minutes. 
On the way, at many times, he had the feeling that they were being followed, but every time he turn his head, they were nobody behind.

When they finally finished the visit, Dick was accompanied them to the spectators place when Bruce suddenly spotted someone turning on the corner to join the staff members private area. When Bruce saw him, he's eyes wider and a thought immediately cross his mind before rejecting it instantly 'It can't be him, he's not even in America.but this feeling...'

When Dick left them, he immediately run to his Lodge to prepare himself. Half away through it, he came across the same man from this morning with C.C Haley talking this time with another man
"He refused again, so do the job but do it properly, leave no trace" said the man of the morning "But the ropes were exchanges, I saw a kid do that and even when I did it again, he exchanged it again saying that this one too wasn't great. After that I didn't have any room left to do it again" start to explain the other man with an apologic tone "I don't care of how you do it, I have reserved a place for the show so I want that to be a great show" said the man with a sadic smile on his face but when he looked away, he noticed Dick who already stop he's track to listen to him. "Hey brat! Get away!" he shout to him.
Dick start frowning but still did as he was told and went to his lodge. As he start to change himself, he couldn't help but keep thinking of what heard earlier. The more he thought about it, the more he start to feel uneasy. As he opened his door to exit absentmindedly he was suddenly woke up by the sound of the door hurting something "Aouch!"
Realising that he hurt someone, Dick rushed out to met a handsome boy in the same age with long brown wavy hair and a bump on the forehead "Ah, I'm sorry, I didn't know that there was someone behind" apologies Dick. "No, no it's ok. Rather it's my fault for daydreaming like that" said the  young man with a stunning SMILE "Oh right, good timing, can you help me? I was looking for the toilet for an hour, but now is the time for the show to start but can't find my way out" said the boy scratching his head making Dick laugh. He then start to explain how to rejoin the spectator area the boy.
 "Oh thank you Dick" said the boy stunning Dick "How do you know my name?" He asked with suspicion "Oh that? Well, you know someone in my family, and she told me about you and the fact that you will have you first show today. Even though at first I didn't want to come, but when think about it a little how can I not? And Especially now that I met you. I can say witho a doubt that you will do great things Boy wonder" as he said that, he raised his hand and went away. 'someone in his family? Could it be Mallory? But she never told me that she have a brother. Maybe he's her cousin' Thought Dick before walking to the stage.

Because he got lucky, Diggle Troswer was reincarnated in the DC world and in no more than the famous and infamous city: Gotham. The most corrupt city in the USA. 

"While I was a complete idiot before and a big jerk, this time I will make it right!"

Since that moment award, Diggle Troswer started his path to become one the best super Hero of DC universe as he will encounter Superman, Batman, Flash, Red Tornado and other super hero who'll become his mentor and ally in the path of Justice.

Superman flew towards June Moone, around him surrounding was a green cloud of Arcane energy. "June moone … A bright young designer possessed by an evil witch. And now you're a pawn of Amanda Waller…You can fight back, june!" Superman flew next to June. Her eyes no longer blazed with green energy "you.. You're right, I can, thank you, superman." 

As he got closer he said "We can get you help June--" before he even finished he was hit with arcane lightning from the green clouds, the enchantress yelled "CRETIN! YOU THINK I CARE ABOUT JUNE? YOU WILL BURN AS JUNE MOONE'S SOUL DOES!" her eyes blazed with energy once more as she let out a vicious smile. "So the mighty hero has a weakness to magic."

Killer Frost ran out of the forest, behind her was Cyborg. She turned and fired a ice shard at him, but it missed and hit a tree. She kept running and as she exited the forest she fired a wave of ice at him. Cyborg countered with his sonic cannon, the blast created a sparkling icy smoke. Killer frost exited the forest and Cyborg followed. Killer Frost stopped running; she leaned forward and started huffing for air then asked. 

Cyborg stood behind her and spoke "Your engineering team betrayed you and turned Caitlin snow into Killer frost. They're the reason you need to feed on people's life force to live. Even now, my scanners detect that you've used up all the energy you have fighting against us and are growing weak."

"H-how do you know so much about me, Cyborg?" asked Caitlin, Cyborg walked closer and reached his hand out. "I just accessed you're A.R.G.U.S. files online, I even read you college entry exam…A young woman who was told she'd never be an engineer, who wanted to give the world a better future."  Cyborg knelled down and kept his hand extended out to her.  "You still can have that." 

Caitlin looked him dead in his eyes, then yelled out "what if I don't want that anymore?!" she reached out and grabbed his face. Cyborg's human eye rolled back, his mouth gapped open. His body was paralyzed Caitlin continued "right now your machine parts are working in overdrive to save your vulnerable human side… AND THEY'RE LOSING!" Caitlin let go, anger visible on her face. She let go and ran away, Cyborg started too "s-st—op-p-p." he said as he keeled over.

El Diablo channeled his fire then created a giant three headed fire dragon, "Man, this is some B.S.! you two ain't green lanterns!" the dragon lashed out and tried to devour them, Jessica and Simon formed a shield. Diablo continued talking "I'm trying real hard right now to not be insulted… but they send a pair of nobodies after me? Where's the respect?" the dragon roared then fired a breath of fire at them, jess and Simon's shield withstood it. 

The two split off, as they charged past the dragon and right to Diablo. "We might be new to this… but we still know how fire works!" Simon yelled out, as Jessica got close and surrounded Diablo within a ball. He cut off his flame and looked up at the two floating above him. "I hope he's not claustrophobic, Simon. I'd be freaking out right now if I were him."

When Simon heard this he looked to Jessica and said "you mean the guy who called us nobodies? He'll live." As all of this was going on, the flash had captain's boomerang's boomerang in hand. Snapping it he said "You're right we do go way back. And I know the best way to stop you is to take away your toys." Boomerang raised his hand in defeat "I see I went and made ya upset…ya got me. But save me the interrogation, I'll tell you whatever you wanna know."

In the water surrounding the island, Killer croc was trying his best to out swim and stay away from Aquaman "After w hat you did to me, I stay as far away from you as I can." Aquaman swam after him, a confused look written on his face "have we met before?" Croc turned and kicked him back "and here I thought, I had a face no one could forget!" Aquaman easily recovered, and called a nearby shark "maybe you're confusing me with one of my friends." 

"A great white?! Heh, always wondered how my claws would measure up against jaws!" Killer Croc ripped the shark in half; Aquaman rushed over, shocked at the sight. The blood of the shark masked Croc location and he swam up on aquaman from behind. *CHOMP* he bit into aquaman's arm.

"RAGH! Not again, your skins – it's so hard." As he wreathed in pain, aquaman turned and set him flying with a punch. Croc landed on the beach, where Deadshot and batman were fighting. Batman thru a right hook and Deadshot raised his left to block it. Batman opened his hand and grabbed deadshot's left. "It's no surprise you've never stood up to Waller. You always take the easy way. Like when you killed a man in front of your own daughter."

Deadshot raised his right hand, aiming his wrist mounted gun at batman heads. Batman let go, ducked below the shot as he dashed back "it's a shame that she'll aways know you're nothing but a hired gun." Deadshot charged at Batman while yelling "at least I don't let kids fight for me!" Batman somersaulted above deadshot, when his body was above Floyd's he kicked out, knocking Floyd to the floor. 

Bruce turned to rush at Deadshot, Floyd continued talking "what does that say about?!" raising his arm, he fired three shots at Batman's chest. The bullets broke the center batman logo on his chest and a bullet proof vest was shown underneath. "No bulletproof vest is that good batman."

 Batman grunted in pain, before charging forward as he said "the pain is worth it…to make sure…that I stop you from ever endangering your daughter again!" Batman through a punch in deadshot's face and it shattered his mask, knocking him out.

Harley drove through the streets of the city on a yellow motorcycle "MOVE IT OR LOSE IT! Stolen motorcycle coming through!" the civilians back away watching her with awe. "Citizens of badhnisia, make way."  They looked up and were awe at Wonder-women flying above them. "Don��t make me lasso you off that Motorcycle!" Harley took out a gun and fired at Diana. "What gives, Wonder lady?! Where's my hugs and kisses at?! Last time we saw each other I thought we pinkie-swore to be B.F.F.s!" Diana blocked it with her bracers and said "I'm not friends with a deranged criminal killer."

Harley sped up and kept running her mouth "Is this because batman, superman and ol' Harley Quinn are the new trinity? Or do you have daddy issues? Or is this about your Mama? Talk to me, tell me how ya feel." 

Diana grit her teeth in anger and speed up "the gods gave me life and I'm thankful everyday for it.--" before she could finish Harley thru a smiley faced bomb behind her. "This'll put a smile on your mug! Doctor's orders!" Diana caught the bomb and buried it in her chest. The civilians around her ran in fear, and the boom went off and covered her in party streamers. 

Diana frown deepen and she said "gods…I would rather fight the erinyes of Hades than to match wits with…where is she?" Harley drove up from behind her "Hey WONDY WOMAN!" Diana looked up to see Harley and her stolen motorcycle centimeters from his face. *KABOOM!* the bike exploded and out of the smoke Diana was carrying Harley on her shoulders. Sighing Diana messaged the team "Batman…I got Harley."

Batman told all the league members "the suicide squad is nearly in our custody. Killer frost and Killer Croc are still on the run."

The league took the captured squad members and connived on Croc and Frost, they surrounded them at the bank of the beach. Flash thru captain boomerang to the floor "batman! Captain Boomerang told me that they've got Waller talking in their heads!"

Back in belle reve Amanda was fuming in anger "Always knew you'd be the first to betray me, Digger. I warned you, suicide squad. I can't have you jeopardizing everything I've--"

Killer frost yelled out "WAIT, WALLER NO DON'T. There has to be something I can--" *BOOM!* the enchantress close lined Superman straight into the ground, knocking him out. "you will die by my hands man of steel…" her voice was husked and weak. 

Frost look at the unconscious man of steal, Waller yelled to her "frost! This is your last chance! Superman is powered by the sun. ABOSRB HIS LIFE FORCE!" frost moved closer to him "but.." she paused and the league members rushed over in panic as they knew what was about to happen. 

Amanda yelled "TAKE HIM!!" Frost grabbed his face and drained him as fast as she could, Superman's body turned pale while his eyes light blue and his body sunk in drying up. "…wow, I didn't know… I could do that." She stood up, her eyes were red, her pupils white and everything around her was frozen. The sea, the beach, everything and everyone froze.

Batman woke up in a custom prison cell, his body was incased in titanium and hug from the roof of the cell. "Your mind might your most dangerous weapon, batman. But it's nothing if you don't have access to your body. So I designed this cell specifically for you; just like I did for the rest of your friends." 

To his left was flash, he was left suspended in an electromagnetic field. On Batman's right was Superman, his feet were incased in Pure titanium, his hands were chained and Red solar radiation, eradiated his cell. To the right of them was Jessica and Simon, both of them had the same helmets geralt wore. And to their right was Diana was on her knees, with her hands and feet bound behind her back by the lasso of truth and its knot, around her neck.  

Beside her was Geralt, his cell still coated in anti-gravity, oxygen low, helmet over face and as naked as ever. To his right was Cyborg, hooked up to wires that disabled his tech. On Cyborg's right was Aquaman, he was trapped in locked vat of Black Water (it's basically his version of kryptonite, it won't kill him but it will depower him.)Amanda smiled at the sight of them "Welcome to the suicide squad, I look forward to all the good we'll do." 

Amanda Waller… had won.

He then stopped at a newspaper stand and by a newspaper. He read the news about Superman and the heroes saving the day again.

 He shook his head seeing Superman put Bizarro into the jail with Batman is the same putting Joker into the jail."Why couldn't they just kill those villains?" He thought in his head.

"Those villains like Joker already caused many innocence people to die. Stupid heroes with their no-killing rule." He thought in his head.

Escanor Walker is not a person from this world. Rather he is a person from a world where this world is known as DC is a fiction world. He, of course, read the DC comics.

He also is an Otaku and by far the watches Nanatsu No Taizai and Naruto. He only watches those both anime and read their manga as he only admired characters in those animes. The first is Mael. The original wielder of the grave "Sunshine." A grace which claimed as the strongest grace to be eve exist. As long as the sun is up, you will become the strongest being to walk on the planet. His version of Sunshine is said to be powerful as he claimed it as "Greatest Sun". 

The second is Escanor as he is just only human who receives the grace " Sunshine" and is claimed as the strongest member of the Seven Deadly Sins. He re-read the chapter of him defeating Meliodas many time.

The third is Uchiha Madara. A fearsome Shinobi that was able to fight many ninjas. Even Naruto and Sasuke are having difficulties to defeat him. Madara becomes the second Sage of Six Path but only for a second after Black Zetsu betrayed him.

In his previous life, he practised every single martial art and become a well known UFC fighter.

Until he got back to his home and opened his computer. A message is written on his computer by saying he will be transported to a fictional world and he has 5 wish that can be granted.

So he chose to have the inheritance of Mael, Escanor,  Meliodas,  Madara and other Sharingan with Rinne-Sharingan abilities except for Amaterasu since he has Hellblaze. 

Then his body disappears from his room to see he has landed in a forest. He sees he has Madara's appearance with having a silver hair.

He spends the years by training his power since his potential to grow is limitless. He fights many demons and monsters even some arrogant gods before he settled to live in New York and enjoyed his carefree life.

He did not have to worry about money since he sold many golds and treasures he found during his journey.

His ID meanwhile is kept secret and no one will know about it. He already met Ra's Al Ghul by coincidence since he accidentally Kamui there.

He had to fight many ninjas easily thanks to Madara and Sasuke battle experience. Ra's then fight him but it only ended with him losing horribly.

Escanor then quickly Kamui away. Then he met Vandal Savage by coincidence at Bialya. Both of them clash and it proved Vandal Savage is very skilled. The immortal managed to stay alive even though he has been burned by many fires jutsus.

Also, he discovers this world did not have Brainiac and Darkseid invaded it yet thought the Justice League has already been formed.

Escanor quickly gets out of his monologue when a car is flying to him but he steps aside to dodge it.

He then sees Grundy is crashing many cars. Great, New York did not have heroes to guard it and the city only get attack by villains sometimes.lqaqaaap

Escanor spread his sense to see if there are any heroes around but it seems the there are none."Well, time to reveal me." He thought in his head.

He then goes into an alley before flicker away. He arrived on a rooftop of the tallest building before he unseals the seal on his right wrist. A good appeared on his body and he has worn his battle suit.

He wears Deku's suit but a black with blue outline coloured and a hood covered his face with him wearing an eye mask with his eyes can be seen.

His suit is bulletproof with resisting the high and low temperature with withstanding any physical and magic attacks.

He then taps into his Sunshine mode with his body slightly grow bigger. He then jumps directly to Grundy and steps his face on the ground causing a large crack to be made on the ground.

"My apologise. I did not see a peasant is standing at the place where I landed." He said in an arrogant tone.

He then the backwards letting Grundy groggily stand up with mouth is bleeding."Grundy will kill you!" He shouted and rush to Escanor who just look at him in a bored gaze.

Grundy thrust a punch to Escanor's face. It hit his right cheek and a shockwave happened after his punch connected to the right cheek.

"Is that all you can do?" Escanor said while ignoring Grundy's fist on his right cheek.

"I am disappointed," Escanor said before uppercut Grundy sending him to the air. Grundy flew to the air like a rocket after being uppercut by Escanor.

Escanor just started through the air waiting for Grundy to fell back to the ground. Grundy fell ti the ground making the crack more bugger than before.

Escanor can see the undead already has passed out."2 punches from me already knocked you out. I expected more from you." Escanor said before leaving the unconscious Undead on the ground letting the police to arrest him.

He then flickers away leaving bewildered citizens who wondered who is he?

Soon many news sourced wondering the person who bests Grundy with only 2 hits. Many claimed he is like Superman. They believed with a person with hat strength can only be Superman.

At Gotham, Bruce Wayne AKA Batman kept reviewing the video of Escanor defeated Grundy."Who is he? There is no record of him." Bruce thought in his head.

He already tried to see if the person who defeated Grundy left a trail to his lair but it seems he just disappear out of nowhere.

"If he is like Clark then we must take action. We must confront him very soon heifer others confronted him." Batman thought in his head before wearing his cowl and started his car to go to Metropolis to confront Superman.

Escanor meanwhile is sleeping soundly on his bed ignoring about many people talk about him.

3 days have passed since then and many crimes now have started to happen in the city but Escanor always stopped them easily.

Be it robbers, muggers or rapists, he stopped them. People started calling him "Paladin" which he liked a lot.

Escanor now can be seen is running after robbery who is running from the police car with a van.

His hands then moved before he inhales his breath deeper.  He then jumps in front of the van.

"Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu." He spits a fireball in front of the van making the van changes its direction and hit the pole.

Soon the door of the van is opened and Escanor already launched his jutsu.

"Water Style: Water Wave Jutsu." A water wave appeared on the air and hit all the robbers. "Followed by this. Chidori Stream!" He shouted and let the lighting flowed on the water electrifying all the robbers making them screaming in pain before all of them lay on the ground unconscious.

"And my job here is done,"  Paladin said before trying to flicker away before a voice is sounded out.

"I think you should wait for a minute Paladin," Superman said before landing down with Martian Manhunter beside him.

"Wow. Superman and Martian Manhunter are here. Cool." Paladin said in a bored tone. He then senses Batman is at an alley behind him.

"You seem bored seeing us," Martian said."Yup. "Escanor said while inground the tug in his head. Fucking rude mind reader.

"We just want to talk to you." Superman said."Yeah with your Martian friend tried to read my mind." Paladin replied. 

"We just to make peace with you," Martian said to me."Then ask your Dark Knight to get out of his hiding place." Paladin said to both heroes who seem shocked but quickly hide it.

"Batman is not here," Superman said."Right." Paladin said before throwing explosive kunai to Batman who avoided it and threw Batarang to him but Paladin throws another kunai to deflect it.

"And the Dark Knight is here. So where is the Flash, Green Lantern and Wonder Woman?" He asked them.

"Busy." Replied Batman."Whoa. You can talk during the day. I thought you can only talk during the night, Batman." Escanor joked not getting a reaction from the heroes but the citizens snicker hearing that.

"Who are you?" Batman asked me."Some super cool hero that wanted to protect innocent life from harm." Paladin replied.

Their gazes hardened hearing that."Then you should follow us. You are a hero like us." Superman said.

"No thanks," Paladin said before his mind felt. a big tug. "Oi Martian." He glared at Martian Manhunter who immediately scream in pain while holding his pain.

Paladin just used the power of 7 Eight-Tails to scare Martian Manhunter. It's killing intent is so malicious and he did not dare to use Kyuubi since he is sure that Martian Manhunter will not forget about the malicious aura from Kyuubi for a long time.

Superman and Batman immediately take a fighting stance with Paladin are the same."You should respect my privacy, Martian." He said coldly to the Martian.

"You should be grateful that I am kind enough to not burn you alive." He said once again with Superman now is in front of Martian.

"We just want to talk to you peacefully," Superman said."Yeah and here your friend wants to read my mind." Paladin countered back.

"You are an unknown," Batman said."Not a good reason Bats. " Paladin said before his Sharingan flared up in 3 tomoe state.

He then started directly at Batman who got caught in Genjutsu causing him to punch Superman who is shocked after being punch by Batman.

"Batman. Stop." He said but Batman kept punching him many time before Superman hold Batman's hand and push him away causing him to hit the pole and fell unconscious.

"Superman to Justice League. Request immediate back up now." Superman said before glared at Paladin.

He then dashes in front of Paladin and aimed his punch on his stomach but his punch got through Paladin.

Superman then punches him much time
but all his punches got through Paladin's body.

"Oh come one Boy Scout. Can't even land a hit on me." Paladin mocked him causing Superman to feel angry towards Paladin."No wonder Obito liked this ability. It is really useful." Paladin thought in his head.

Superman then breath ice-cold breath to him but Paladin already do a hand sign to counter that.

"Fire Style: Great Fireball Jutsu." He said before spit a big fireball that overpowers Superman's cold breath.

Superman shrugged away the fire and dash to Paladin. Paladin also is the same. Both of them throw their punch.

Their fists collided causing a shockwave to happen."It seems Superman can barely handle my strength." Paladin thought in his head. He already uses Sunshine and boosts his strength a lot.

Soon his first overpowered Superman's first and hit his right cheek sending Superman crash into a building.

Then he senses many heroes are heading to his direction."As much as I want to spar with you heroes, I had to make me leave. Also, this is my city so you heroes should not come here because New York is under my protection. You come to this city and you better prepare to get your ass kick by me." He said to the heroes before he disappears in a swirl of flame.

Soon The Flash arrives to see Superman who is rubbing his right cheek with unconscious Martian and Batman. Other heroes also arrived.

"What happened here, Superman?" Flash asked the Man of Steel." I will tell you at the Watchtower. First, carry Batman and Martian to the jet. They needed treatment." Superman sAId to the Flash who nodded his head.

Soon many news about Paladin best the 3 core member of Justice League spread through the whole world. Many want to know about him.


UNKNOWN PLACE POV

"So have you watch the news?" An old man asked several people in there."We all have and we admit we are intrigued by this Paladin. He is able to knock out Batman and Martian with winning a punch from his collision against Superman." A bald man replied.

"So anyone knows about this hero, Paladin?" A woman asked."I know about him." An old man replied."Me too." A man replied.

"Can you tell us about him?" The bald man asked."He is the most dangerous being on this planet." Both man and old man replied getting many different expression from the group.

All the present members of the Justice League watched as Rider's expression twisted into one of distaste as he looked down at the Command Seals on the hands of Batman, Hawkgirl and himself. The Heroic Spirits inside him, as well as Gray, did not like the Einzbern Holy Grail War. The Command Seals were a magecraft that bent the will of Heroes to the wills of Man.

Being forced to execute tasks that went against their code or principles, that was the power of a Command Seal. Despite the fact that it could be used in conjunction with a Servant's will to increase their power dozens of times over, it still left an ugly taste in Gray's mouth.

Not to mention the consequences of the presence of these Command Seals.

".... A Holy Grail War".

These words escaped Gray's lips as he stared down at the red colored Venn diagram on his hand. They instantly attracted the attention of Batman and Hawkgirl, the latter was trying to wipe off the Command Seals, thinking it was just a weirdly shaped smudge.

The Dark Knight frowned for a moment, putting his glove back on as he stared at Gray with narrowed eyes.

"Holy Grail War? As in the cup that touched the blood of Christ?".

Gray looked at the Dark Night for a moment before looking away at Berserker's unconscious figure beside Batman. Batman's frown deepened as he watched Gray ignore him and head over towards Berserker, raising as eyebrow as his spear materialized once more, raising over his head and bringing it down with a swing just before-.

"Hold it right there son. You don't get to decide that about this man".

A strong and muscular hand held Gray's spear wielding arm as a tall figure looked down at Gray, a disappointed frown on his brow.

Gray sighed and dropped the spear only to pick it up in his other hand, ready to pierce Berserker's heart before a green light construct wrapped around his right arm, holding the Pseudo-Servant back from killing the massive man in front of him.

He could've broken the chains wrapped around his arm in an instant, but turned his head and looked back at the rest of the League. Everyone except Diana had their weapons raised at Gray, aimed at spots that would ensure the most pain, but least chances of the blow being fatal.

Kara and Diana just stood at the side, the former shouting at the League, much to the surprise of her cousin, holding Gray's left arm.

"Wait! I'm sure Gray has a reason for this! He wouldn't kill this man for no good reason! I'm sure!".

The Kryptonian managed to slightly convince her cousin, who just looked at Batman pleadingly. The caped crusader frowned once more, before looking at Gray expectantly.

The Pseudo-Servant rolled his eyes before several blood red spear appeared above him, aimed and waiting at the nine spots on the body of Berserker, that would almost ensure his death if they struck. Or at least give him a wound that would take several days to heal. Even with the support of his master.

Diana frowned at Gray's actions, but didn't grab her lasso, even though most of the League were looking at said artifact. Gray gave one last look at Berserker before sighing.

"I'm trying to kill him to prevent a Holy Grail War. If all seven Servants are summoned, the War will begin, and the possibility of countless lives being lost is higher than ever".

"Why?", was all Batman had to say.

Gray looked down at Berserker and noted the faint blue motes of light coming off his wounds.

"He is a spiritual being. He may look life flesh and blood, but he needs spiritual energy in order to sustain himself. Mana would do the trick, but souls are the best form of food to Servants".

All the eyes of the Justice League widened and they looked down at Berserker with trepidation, however Batman's eyes never left Gray.

"He called you a Servant. Do you feed off-".

"No. I do not need mana from a Master to sustain myself, nor do I need souls to keep my physical form. I assure you, I'm flesh and blood".

Batman's questions pressed on.

"Why".

Gray didn't respond to his question, choosing to remain silent as he turned and looked at Superman holding his left arm and the Green Lanterns his right. The Hawks readied their Nth metal maces and Martian Manhunter took a couple steps backwards, holding his head in pain as Diana steadied him.

"Sorry about that. The voices will probably stop bothering you, but only if they're in a good mood".

Diana looked at her friend kneeling in pain, before the Martian let out a deep breath and looked up at the Pseudo-Servant in awe, and slight fear. His words caused Gray to frown, and he wanted to lecture the Servants in his Class Cards for what they said.

"That's impossible", he spoke before continuing, "How can so many minds exist in one body? And why do want to stop the Holy Grail War from happening? Is it not in your interest to obtain your one true wish?".

"If I knew what my wish was, then I might consider it".

Gray retorted the Martian's words more aggressively than what he normally did. Letting out a deep breath as Superman felt his arm move slightly, edging closer and closer towards Berserker's neck, the legendary spear of Achilles in Gray's hand and the cursed spear of Scathach in the other. 

The strength of thirteen Heroes of legend pressed against the last Son of Krypton and the combined strength of two Green Lanterns. Clark felt his feet be pushed back a few centimeters, and the green light constructs slowly cracked as Gray pushed through their wills.

Batman through a batarang at Gray, but the mortal weapon was deflected by Gray's Noble Phantasm, [Andreias Amarantos: Amaranth of the Brave]. His skin bathed in an immortal fire, changing almost all of his flesh and blood into those similar to Gods.

All the League looked at Diana, who frowned as she met their gazes. Gray looked back, if only to see the look on her face as she shook her head slightly, as if trying to plead with the Pseudo-Servant.

Gray knew the conflict that was going through Diana's mind, but continued to push through the pain feeling the sensation of steel cutting flesh on the end of his spear. He wanted to press forward further, but something inside of him warned him of something coming. Something raw and primal inside of him, instinct or intuition Gray didn't know.

It was the same feeling others got when they saw Gray install his Assassin Class Card for the first time. The feeling of death that crawled up their spine and burrowed deep within every fiber of their being, like a thin metal blade cutting upon lines of death....

"Get back!".

Superman and Batman were surprised by the sudden shout coming from the man they were trying to restrain, and the former felt something cut lightly through his arm, and a lack of feeling from the elbow down.

The Man of Steel's eyes widened as his left arm was severed and despite even Clark's strength, he couldn't help but scream as his limb went flying through the air.

The lack of blood appearing from his wounds was a strange look in the eyes of the caped crusader, even though the Dark Knight was the most shocked out of all the League members present. All the members of the Justice League felt a swift blow to their sternums as Gray pushed them behind him, his twin spears in hand.

Seven figures, including that of Berserker who was being woken up by a handsome light brown haired man with a charismatic smile on his face. The top of his chest exposed and he was garbed in a strange outfit that resembled both a Emperor's garment and a General's uniform. A massive hat could be seen on his head. 

The seven figures were all unbelievably familiar to Gray, all could be named by the Pseudo-Servant. Yet the presence of the woman in front, the beautiful long brunette woman sent shivers down the spines of all who stared into her eyes.

Her long Japanese kimono stretched to the ground, yet like Gray's Chinese garb, it never grew dirty or stained from the dirt or gravel. Her beautiful long hair fell down her back like wings on an angel, and her strange colored eyes bloomed like a lone peony in a field of death.

She spoke a single sentence, her beautiful face had a small smile that marred her face, although it looked more polite than intimate.

"Your lines of death..... why is that I cannot see them?".

Waking up in an abandoned apartment in Gotham City was never how I imagined my Saturday morning. Seeing Gods walk amongst Men brought familiar yet foreign memories to mind.

I knew who they were, yet I had absolutely no recollection of myself before today. Waves upon waves of experiences and feelings pilled themselves up like mountains within my mind, yet it was jumbled and incoherent.

Being able to stand side-by-side against Demons and Beings whose very presence could shake the heavens and the earth was a dream that every kid had as a kid.... right?

Now were did this Class Cards fit into the equation?

 Meanwhile, some smart film companies had seized a chance to cooperate with Qin Guan again.
 Just as Qin Guan finished his work in the US and was about to head back to China, he ran into the representative of Warner Bros.
 "I have a really tight schedule in 2008."
 "I know, but just take a look at the role. If you accept it, we'll do our best to promote the film for the Oscars."
 Qin Guan took the script dubiously. The guy had good reason to be so determined. This was the favorite film type of the Oscar committee: a superhero movie.
 Everyone was familiar with the hero. It was Batman himself. Of course, as a traditional Marvel character, Batman couldn't suddenly be turned into an Asian. The supporting characters could, though.
 Yes, Qin Guan would play Batman's arch enemy, the Joker. The distinctive, impressive character would be a real challenge for Qin Guan.
 As the name suggested, Qin Guan would have to wear a mask for the role, so he would only be able to rely on his acting skills.
 Qin Guan grew even more excited as he read on. Although it was a traditional movie with a standard formula, the role was a nice one. The villain left space for the actor to show his talent.
 Thus, Qin Guan kept the script despite his tight schedule.
 "I'll do it. Just contact my agent for details. I can't invite you in. I'm about to catch a flight."
 "Okay, no problem. Your salary will be 18 million dollars. Is that okay for... Hey!"
 Qin Guan ran to catch his flight.
 As soon as he returned to Beijing, he called the Olympic Organizing Committee.
 "Yes, I can get back to work right after the Spring Festival. The sooner, the better. I'm not afraid of intense work."
 He just wanted to finish that embarrassing job as soon as possible, preferably even before the Spring Festival.
 When he hung up, he picked up Cong Nianwei from the construction site for a movie date.
 The closer they got to the cinema, the more crowded it got. The holiday was drawing near, so more and more couples had some spare time. In the winter, going to the cinema was naturally their first choice.
 Plus, this was the day Qin Guan's film would premiere in China, so they wanted to contribute to the film's box office.
 It took a long time for Qin Guan to find a place to park his car. As soon as he fixed his clothes, he got out of the car. His face was covered in a hat and a scarf, so that only his eyes were visible.
 Qin Guan was holding Cong Nianwei's hand, just like a boyfriend in love with his girlfriend would. They had booked a lovers' seat to watch "I Am Legend".
 Milk tea, popcorn, Coca Cola and hot dogs were a must for lovers watching a movie.
 When the lights were turned off, Qin Guan realized that all the seats were occupied. Even the seats at the edge of the theater were full!
 The response of the audience satisfied Qin Guan just as much. Everyone shouted and whispered during the movie. Some girls even hugged their boyfriends during the most thrilling moments. Cong Nianwei was not one of them.
 Qin Guan shot a sad look at her.
 "Darling, this is a really moving film. It's an indie sci-fi film that makes people think deeply about its meaning."
