Berlatar belakang dunia moderen. Bukan Fantasi yah.

Hao Ren could not say for sure whether all the administrators had died in the same chamber. But one thing was sure, none of the administrators were still alive. There could be more scenes like that in other server rooms, where the burnt wreckage of the administrators lay around.
Apparently, the Cortex Prime had orchestrated the mass destruction of these loyal workers.
Hao Ren approached the burnt wreckage carefully and flipped the washbasin-sized steel beetle. The joints of its robotic arms were frozen, preventing access to its insides. Hao Ren had to cut off two of its arms before he could remove the metal plate on its abdomen.
"It was destroyed from the inside out. The core circuit board was fried, and these coils were where the fire started apparently," said Hao Ren, pointing at the messy internal state of the administrator. "It's the result of a typical electric pulse attack."
"They were at work when they were destroyed," N-6 snapped out of her shock and said. She looked at the cable connectors and servers that were open before she quickly reconstructed the scene. "Hardware replacement wasn't due yet, and such large-scale work is unnecessary. So, it was the Cortex Prime that summoned the administrators here."
Lily's ears flicked. "That's to say, the Cortex Prime gathered its administrators on the pretext of emergency maintenance, then massacred them in the room? Is this the Malicious Banquet incident in the world of robots?"
"Most of the administrators usually worked inside the fort, but they also made contact outside the fortress. The outside world will soon find out their mass destruction." Hao Ren frowned. "MDT, can you determine the time of death?"
By now, the MDT had completed the sampling analysis of the burn traces in the room. "About a month ago. According to the information about the administrators provided by N-4, it is a long enough time to arouse the suspicion of those on the outside. The main reason why no one was questioning what was happening in the fort was probably that the Cortex Prime ruled the roost in the lunar base. The Executors simply followed instructions. Even if they have their own mind and feelings, they cannot get away from the 'mind lock' in the program. So, they subconsciously ignored all the abnormalities."
"But the anomalies in real life and in the program will produce so many conflicts that when it reaches the tipping point, it will become a disaster for the AI society," Y'zaks said with a rough voice. "There used to be a magician kingdom called Lythetus in my homeworld. Their technique of making intelligent golems using artificial souls was one of a kind, but an undetected logic error had caused all the intelligent golems to go out of control, and the whole kingdom was destroyed within three days."
Hao Ren nodded lightly. There was a massive flaw in the AI society on the moon. Before that, he only had a vague feeling of the problem. But now, when he saw the impending system collapse in the fortress and thought of the Executors who were clueless of the looming disaster on the outside, this flaw became extremely obvious.
N-6 stood in the distance; she was struggling internally.
Everything she saw in the fort was a bombshell. The poor bionic girl had never questioned her own existence, yet everything about her life had come into question now. The supposedly strong fortress, infallible Cortex Prime, and the perfect fort defense system had now all gone. Everything in the steel fortress began to degenerate and crumbling. The process had started a few years ago and reached a critical level when the Cortex Prime destroyed its own administrators a month ago.
But her fellow Executrixes knew nothing about the situation. They saw the fortress still standing on the moon, and then faithfully carried out the order issued from the fort even if it was an order to carry out a mass suicide attack on the home planet.
An electrical surge rushed into her logic circuit. Error messages quickly flooded her field of vision. She felt her thinking had broken into intermittent segments, and she lost control and fell.
N-6 felt someone held her as she lost her balance. The once chaotic logic gradually stabilized, and some code that was not her own was clearing the system errors that would cause fatal failure.
Vivian held N-6 up when she saw her dropping. A few seconds later, she heard the hum of system reboot, and the bionic girl opened her eyes. Vivian could not help but be worried, "What happened to you?"
"No big deal, she had a shock and crashed," the MDT said on behalf of N-6. "Every Executor is programmed to have absolute obedience to the Cortex Prime and trust in the fortress. When she saw what happened in the fortress, it produced a fatal bug in her system. But now it seems that she as self-repair ability."
Hao Ren blinked. "Is it not because of Nolan has installed security software in her system during the repair?"
"No, Nolan did not touch her core system, just wrote her a bunch of drivers. Her system self-recovery is built-in."
For a moment, N-6 felt something was wrong with her auditory system. The conversation between Hao Ren and the MDT sounded like a roaring noise from a distance. This symptom lasted for a long time and then only gradually improved. She heard them talking about self-recovery, but she did not know what that meant. She had no idea of when the code that helped her clear the fatal error was stored on her chip.
When she finally could stand on her feet, she gave Vivian a grateful smile. "Thank you, I am fine now."
"Are you sure you are okay?" Hao Ren glanced at the bionic girl, still worried. "Can you continue the journey?"
Lily quickly reminded, "Don't say I didn't warn you; there may be more shocking things ahead."
"I am fine." N-6 nodded. "The system error has been cleared. I think I can continue."
Since N-6 was insistent, Hao Ren said nothing more. He just looked at this messy place, thoughtfully. "This looks like mutual destruction. The servers have also taken a heavy toll."
"These are the Cortex Prime's secondary servers. Their damage will not paralyze the Cortex Prime," N-6 explained. "But losing these secondary servers will overload the main servers and reduce their performance. I think the Cortex Prime must be mad when it destroyed the administrators. It did not care for its own damage."
Hao Ren said nothing.
Just then, Lil Pea got out of Hao Ren's collar once again. The little guy opened her eyes wide as she poked and looking around.
Y'zaks saw her and could not help mumbling, "Don't you feel uncomfortable with a fish squirming on your body?"
"Have you ever complained when you carry your daughter on your shoulder?"
"Maybe you are right."
The little guy suddenly grabbed Hao Ren's chin as if she had thought of something. "Dad-dee, there!"
Hao Ren looked up at the direction where Lil Pea was pointing; there was the exit of the server room.
The group did not continue to linger in the server room. After leaving the place, they entered the heart of the fortress.
It was a corridor leading to the Inevitable Palace.
The scenery along the corridor was not much different from what they saw elsewhere in the fort.
Immobilized Titanium Guards, offline surveillance equipment, and weapon platforms were everywhere. They also saw more server rooms and subsystems of the Cortex Prime. Without exception, these places were strewn with the wreckage of the administrators. Even the hardware of the Cortex Prime suffered severe damage due to the EMP.
The system of the Cortex Prime was massive beyond imagination. It was almost the fortress itself. The most powerful artificial intelligence in history occupied nearly two-thirds of the fort. It was not an exaggeration to say that Hao Ren and his team were passing through the body of the Cortex Prime looking for its external interface.
The interface was just around the corner.
A massive black gate that shimmered was in the way. The weapons system without power supply was still mounted on both sides of the gate. Hao Ren felt gloomy air lingering on the entrance, reminding him of the scene he had seen countless times.
The fall of a civilization, and the end of an era.
N-6 told him that behind the door was the heart of the Cortex Prime, and the only master interface to connect to the deep consciousness of the Cortex Prime was in there.
The only entrance to the Inevitable Palace was behind the heart of the Cortex Prime. For thousands of years, the Cortex Prime had been the only loyal guard guarding the single passage to the refuge of humanity. Before today, this checkpoint had never opened its door to Executor like her.
"Open it." Hao Ren instructed the MDT.
"There may be resistance from the Cortex Prime," Y'zaks warned. "It will most likely use EMP, the weapon that destroyed the administrators."
Hao Ren nodded. "Keep your eyes open. Lily, stay behind me. You have low current resistance."
Lily wanted to refute that, but when she knew how helpless she was in the face of Vivian's lightning ball, she stayed behind Hao Ren.
The energy system powering the black gate was still running, so the MDT could release a virus to disable the access control, and the gate slid open to both sides slowly.
A wide rotunda appeared. In the center was a shimmering black cylinder.
It was the heart of Cortex Prime.

Kendrick jerked awake. Awaking from his dream of meeting Chi yang, and the strange events that led him to the demon-things, it was so real feeling. How did he know the parts that he wasn't there for? Kendrick looked around the room, trying to get his bearings.

It was a strange white room. Very brightly lit, and had the smell of alcohol, bleach, and ions... A hospital... Kendrick hated hospitals, as they always gave him the creeps.

He had an IV in his left arm, with a black solution with gold flakes flowing in the IV. Obviously creeped out, he followed the IV up to see that it was connected to a small tank. Suspended in this small tank of clear liquid where black inky blobs that were bouncing around like a lava lamp. If one looked close enough, they could see gold flakes in this solution, as well. One of the Black balls stilled, and one small eye opened in the black blob to look down at him, for it's drip tank.

Kendrick began to scream. Terrified at what was being injected into him, he began to tear the IVs from his flesh. Spraying the black ink like substance over the room, along with his blood, as he tried to make run for it. He didn't know where he was going, but he didn't want to stay there. As his feet hit the floor, a powerful ache in his chest hit him like he was being punched. Kendrick's first thought was that he was having a heart attack, as he clutched the left side of his chest, only to receive a searing pain in response to garbing his chest. He quickly let go, falling to his butt next to the bed.

He tore at his medical gown to finally reveal a strange arcane pattern on his chest. Five lines were seared into the flesh, with strange glyph like patterns intersecting them, he followed more lines as they led from his left pectoral to his right shoulder and down to his right hand. These lines formed some kind of pattern. A brief glance at it caused his eyes to hurt.

As Kendrick seen his chest and right arm, even more fear wailed inside. He thought he had felt fear in the presence of the demon-things, but this was a new level. This combined with his past experiences kept driving him to the edge. Quickly the room opened up as three people rushed into the room.

They picked up the screaming Kendrick, as he started to flail. Soon he felt a needle pierce his arm. A few more moments, and he didn't feel as afraid... He felt... Calmer.

"What... did you guys put into me?" Kendrick asked, as he was helped back on to the bed. He could see that there were two strange looking medical personnel, and a odd looking old man.

One of the nurses took out a veil of gold salve, and rubbed it on his cubital vein in the pit of his elbow, where he had just ripped his IVs out. Kendrick watched as the flesh mended itself into a weird scar. The other nurse had fixed the drip tank, that now contained many disgruntled black blobs. They together reinserted the IV back into Kendrick's arm.

Kendrick looked up into the faces of both nurses. They looked like normal nurses; two female nurses wearing white robes that held many pockets. There nurse uniforms looked to be a combination of a white wizard robes and a white lab coat. They both wore white surgical caps that were marked in the front by five black lines.

""Mr. Cain, We have given you something to calm your nerves until your treatments are complete. Please bear with us. We also apologize for not helping you earlier, as you awoke sooner than expected."" They both spoke in unison, like twins, but Kendrick could tall easily they were not.

"Ah, okay... I just kinda freaked out at the IV drip... Like what is that stuff. I don't think it's normal to put monsters in your body.... Why am I so calm about this?" Kendrick started to question his responses.

""Mr. Wyrd, could you please explain everything properly to Mr. Cain. We have other patients to attend to, but if you need anything. Please call us."" The nurses had turned to the strange looking old man, as they again spoke in unison.

"Yeah, I get it. You two like fuck off." The old man responded. His voice seemed to indict he might of been a groupie in the 60s. A hippie. He even dressed slightly like a hippie. This old man had long black hair while he wore a pair of round sunglasses. He also wore a dark tie dye shirt with the colors orange, black, blue, and purple swirling into the center of the shirt, with a black denim Jacket and black denim jeans. However, he wore black combat boots. Kendrick took it back... This wasn't just a hippie, it was a goth hippie.

The two nurses bowed and left the room. The door slide back into place in a sci-fi fashion.

"Blah... I friggin hate gemini nurses... They've always given me the creeps, and son let me tell you. Giving me the creeps is hard to do at this point."

"Who are you?" Kendrick asked slightly concerned.

"I'm the dude that's going to show you the ropes. Your guide, and like your tutor. Lord Candle-light is spoiling the fuck out of you my dude."

"Lord Candle-light? You mean the demon-thing I met?"

"Demon-thing... The hell is that? Lord Candle-light is a Nightmare god." The old man responded slightly confused...

"What's a Nightmare god?"

"Flying fuck monkeys, your sponsor didn't tell you shit did they?"

"Ummmm... I met a strange dude named Chi yang, who asked if I wanted everything... I think I agreed. Next thing I know I'm talking to five demon-things."

"Nightmare gods."

"I..."

"Nope... Stop right there." The old man interrupted Kendrick. "Let me start with some introductions." The old man shook his head... 

[How did he become Lord Candle-light's piece and gain his favor?] The old man thought to himself.

"My name is Valdus Wyrd. You can call me Val, if you like. Your Lord Candle-light paid enough for you to get at least that courtesy." Val spoke slowly so that Kendrick could understand.

"Ah?"

"Yeah, and Kendrick is a long name, so I'm going to just call you Ken from now on."

"But my name is Kendrick... That's what I want to be called."

"Well I don't give two and a half shits... You're Ken now, get use to it."

"Errrr-" Just as Kendrick was going to retort, he was interrupted again by Val.

"So Ken, lets start with the basics."

"Okay... I can live with that."

"Living... That's the hard part actually, but I digress. You have been inducted to the mostly widely known secret in the Omniverse. We are known as pieces to the Nightmare gods, but We are known to mortals and each other as Horrormancers."

"Omniverse? Horrormancers? I don't quite follow..."

"Wow... The dunce twins must of gave you some good shit to make you this stupid... Okay... The Omniverse is all multiverses, all Universes, all realities, and all existences in one. Try not to think about it... Just know it's big as fuck. You've already met two Horrormancers, me and Chi Yang."

"Okay, I get the Omniverse thing, but what does a Horrormancer do... Is it like a Necromancer?"

"No one wants to play with dead bodies... Zombies are rather weak when compared to Nightmares. Hell... Zombies are Nightmares... So We can kinda like summon them... Whatever let me explain it this way..."

Val took a deep breath.

"Horrormancers draw upon they're fears to manifest a creature made from the summoner's own nightmares. They use these nightmare creatures to kill their enemies or for various tasks. In short, Horrormancers summon their own nightmares as weapons or tools."

"That... That actually sounds pretty cool."

"Yeah, it's real cool until you can't keep the nightmare at bay and it eats your sanity, leaving you a drooling idiot... or worse... No body at all."

"Wait... These summoned nightmares can kill you?"

"It's a double edged blade... To gain power, you must give in return. It's always a race to be more powerful that your fears, least your fears consume you. It's kinda philosophical, if you think about it."

"Okay... I get what Horrormancers are... but what did they do to me... You called them, gemini nurses."

"Which part? The IV drip, the Yogg-Tech implants, the brain and other tissue collection, or the shot they gave you?"

"Brain tissue collection?!"

"Whoa boy! Even the drugs can't keep you calm with that one. Calm down. They are using it and your other tissues collected in case you need to be repaired. We fight a lot with other Horrormancers and other enemies of the Nightmare gods, that they just feel like pissing on, and We usually lose a leg, an arm... Maybe your frontal lobe of your brain. Who knows. They use these tissues to grow you replacements. As long as you don't lose or damage your central cortex the docs can repair you."

"Wouldn't it be heal?" Kendrick asked, baffled by the wording.

"Heal? No... You don't quite get it. You're no longer mortal. This brings me to my next point. You see that IV drip?"

"Yeah, I was freaking out over it earlier... In fact, I still want to, but just don't feel like it."

"That's actually a good thing, that's the drugs working. You're part nightmare now."

"They've turned me into a nightmare... Like the things we can summon?"

"You mean me and other Horrormancers summon... Yes... You're not a Horrormancer yet, but you will be when I get done."

"Why make me into a half nightmare?"

"Half? You'd be lucky with a five percent integration. Highest integration I've ever heard of was eighty-five percent. That guy was a friggin nightmare... Like a literal nightmare."

"What happened to him?"

"...His nightmare consumed him..."

"But if he was a nightmare, then why did it consume him?"

"What kind of question is that... Animals eat other animals... Nightmares eat other nightmares. Becoming part will make you super human. The more integration you gain, the more personal power you gain. You want to stay more powerful than your fear fueled nightmares, or like I said earlier..."

Val dragged his thumb across his neck.

"What kind of power?"

"increased strength, faster reactions and speeds, more stamina, more mental fortitude, and increased intelligence."

"Holy crap!"

"Yeah, when your system boots up, it will give you a run down on your stats. It's been a while since I've looked at mine... The stats are called Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma... Never understood that last one..."

"Those are RPG stats..."

"Alright... You got me this time... What in a cock-a-doodle is a RPG...?"

"Role Playing Game."

"Hmmmm... This might be a case of what came first, but seeing as the Nightmare gods have existed before the beginning of our Omniverse, I'd wager they came up with it first... But honestly, who knows, and who cares."

"You said something about a system... What system?"

"Oh, that's the Yogg-Tech implants! Lord Candle-light asked for you to be implanted with the latest and greatest shit that has come out of his laboratories."

Kendrick was a regular guy. Worked at a local retailer as an unloading manager. Went to work... Went home... Play games... Rinse and Repeat. 

One night coming home, he encounters that which he should of never seen. Before he knows it, he has been swept into world of living Nightmare and expected to compete as a Nightmare, with Nightmares, against Nightmares.

He will need to control his fear in order survive in a Nightmare without fear.

Jayde entered the captain briefing room which was lavishly decorated, sneering to herself Jayde thought that if she had 'liberated' this starship, the first thing she would have done was stripped this office. It is a damn starship, not some luxurious resort.

"Ah, SN1098 so nice to see you," Vice President Xi said facetiously.

Jayde didn't bother to respond to Vice President Xi's question, giving him aloof look she sat down on one of the chairs opposite him, crossing her right leg over her left, she cocked her right eyebrow at Vice President Xi.

"I'm in no mood for your childish games, what the f*ck is going on?" Jayde demanded brusquely.

Throwing Jayde a mocking smile, Vice President Xi leaned back in his chair, "Woke up on the wrong side of the bed?" 

Lawrence who had just taken a seat gave a short guffaw at Vice President Xi comment.

Jayde rolled her eyes. Suck up, she thought.

Seeing that Jayde wasn't rising to his bait, the mocking smile on Vice President Xi's face fell. His eyes turned cold and cruel.

"Well it simple my dear SN1098, you are my prisoner — and you have been for over four months now,"

"Bullshit!" Jayde barked.

"I want to know how the hell you escaped Crypso 3Q3U, and more importantly how transferred my soul back into this body?"

Jayde had been thinking through everything, all she could think of was somehow Lawrence and Xi had escaped when she denoted that antimatter bomb, and through some means had transported her soul from Doha into a cloned body.

While she didn't know how the hell the Federation had the technology to manipulate souls, the Protoss technology had convinced Jayde that is was possible. Cloning although illegal wouldn't have prevented the Xi Corp from creating a clone of her.

"Transferred your soul?"  echoed Vice President Xi, then he burst out laughing.

"Oh my god, you believe that we transferred your soul," he said spluttering through his laughter. 

"Oh god, this is too brilliant, SN1055 remind me to give those scientists a hefty bonus."

It took Vice President Xi nearly three minutes to regain control. While he was howling with laughter Jayde was feeling a bad premonition. What the hell was going on, she thought filled with confusion and fear.

"Shit SN1098, you really are a disappointment," Vice President Xi said shaking his head sadly.

"What the f*ck do you think this is — some sort of fantasy novel?" he said contemptuously.

"Let me explain it to you in simple terms, just so that small brain of yours can understand. Four months ago, when you tried to activate that cute little chip in your head to denote those antimatter bombs, our jamming device intercepted your signal."

With false sympathy Vice President Xi carried on with his explanation: "Unfortunately the feedback from the interception, cause a backlash and well — you suffered some temporary damage to the area around the chip." 

Leaning forward Vice President Xi placed both his elbows on the desk in front of him, casually he rested his chin on his fists. 

"And you have been under my tender care ever since." Smiling enigmatically he said: "You had such delicious information in that sweet brain of yours."

Impossible!

"I don't believe you!" Jayde cried out.

"To be honest, I don't give a f*ck whether you believe me or not, but I am so going to enjoy watching that composure of yours crumble." Vice President Xi said as he turned to screen embedded into wall of his office.

"Computer display medical recordings for prisoner SN1098 dated from stardate 32010518."

"Accessing video recordings."

Jayde looked at the screen and felt the blood in her veins freeze, as she saw a video recording of herself lying on a medbay bed. Various machines were attached to her head. Lawrence and Vice President Xi were standing next to her bed, with two scientists. They were discussing her current condition.

"I don't give a damn about your excuses," Vice President Xi voice came through the audio channel.

"I want the f*cking information in that bitch's head, what the hell is the holdup?"

"Sir, we are trying our best, but she keeps on fighting the data miner, if this carries on we will gain nothing, right now there are multiple brain hemorrhages from our last attempt, she could very well die if we continue," one of the scientists said.

"Don't give me f*cking problems, give me solutions!"

With that Vice President Xi and Lawrence left the room. The screen then changed to a new scene, at the top of the screen a new date stamp was recorded.

The recording was nine days later in the same room. Vice President Xi and the same two scientists were standing by Jayde's bed.

"Sir, we think we might have a solution." the younger scientist said.

"About bloody time." Vice President Xi responded. 

"Well what is it?" he asked when the scientists didn't immediately respond.

"If we distract her mind, give it something else to concentrate on, we believe that we could then sneak in and obtain that information."

"How are you going to distract her brain?" 

"We believe," the scientist said indicting himself and his partner, "that if we stimulate the reticular activating system [1], concentrating on the cortex, limbic system, and the amygdala and depress the frontal lobes, we can put her into a continuous dream state. With her frontal lobes depressed this would make her believe that her dream state is real.

While she is experiencing her dream state, we could then actively mine her hippocampus and cortex, accessing her memories." 

Vice President Xi looked at the two scientists seriously. "And just how are you going to stimulate her to dream, she has been trained her whole life to be rational and logical?"

"Ah, we have that covered as well," the older scientist said excitedly. "We will feed her audio suggestions."

Vice President Xi looked at Jayde lying on the bed for a minute then turning to the two scientists he  ordered: "Do it."

The screen on the wall faded out, and a new scene was shown.

The new scene showed the two scientists and Lawrence in a conference room. They were discussing the current experiment with Lawrence.

"We can get her to dream but every time we give her suggestions to deepen her dream state, she fights our suggestions and we can not start the mining operation." the younger scientists said his voice filled with frustration.

"Hmm," Lawrence said thoughtfully.

"What are you trying to get her to dream about?" he asked.

The science handed over a datapad to Lawrence, which he read through.

"I think I know what your problem is, you are trying to make her believe that she is still head of the rebellion and carrying out missions. Change it. I do know one thing about SN1098, she had a passion for ancient earth history, use that."

"Really?" the younger scientists look up excited. 

"Hmm but what sort of environment would be best suited then?" he mumbled to himself.

Laughing Lawrence said: "Make it as unrealistic as possible, you want to distract her — then give her an unreal experience that she has to puzzle over."

The scene of the conference on the screen faded out and was replaced with a new scene.

The screen showed the medbay again, with Jayde lying on the medbay bed. Only the younger scientist and Vice President Xi were in the room with Jayde.

"It is working Sir!"

"Really?" Vice President Xi asked shocked.

"Yes Sir, we are being careful to only data mine her memories slowly, so as not to alarm her, but so far everything is working perfectly," the young scientists bragged.

"Interesting, so what suggestions are feeding her?" Vice President Xi asked curiously.

With a smug smile, the scientists pointed to a large screen above the medbay that Jayde was lying one. One the screen was a list of words.

Doha, Reiko, Yinxin, Dragons, Alchemy, Magic School, Fire Magic, Isha, Protoss, Fireball, Direwolves, Telia, Ryunzo, Sword, Dark Forest, Junro, Mage, Magic.

Looking at the scrolling list being displayed Jayde's shoulders slumped down, as her hands fell limply onto her lap. Closing her eyes, she let out a hard sigh. Jayde felt a strange thickening feeling in her throat, as her mouth filled with dryness.

Oh my god, it was all a dream, she thought sluggishly. Everything was just a dream, there was no Reiko, no Yinxin or baby dragons, everything was just a f*cking dream.

A sharp stabbing pain hit Jayde left chest at that thought. Lifting her right hand she rubbed that painful spot. Gods am I so weak that I am having a heart attack due to the shock.

[1] About dreaming

The whole brain is active during dreams, from the brain stem to the cortex. Most dreams occur during REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. This is part of the sleep-wake cycle and is controlled by the reticular activating system whose circuits run from the brain stem through the thalamus to the cortex.

The limbic system in the mid-brain deals with emotions in both waking and dreaming and includes the amygdala, which is mostly associated with fear and is especially active during dreams.

The cortex is responsible for the content of dreams, including the monsters we flee from, the people we meet, or the experience of flying. Since we are highly visual animals the visual cortex, right at the back of the brain, is especially active, but so are many other parts of the cortex.

Least active are some parts of the frontal lobes, and this may explain why we can be so uncritical during dreams, accepting the crazy events as though they are real – until we wake up.

Diagnostic Process Finished. Warning! Severe damage detected. Recommend seeking immediate repair facilities.

 

My sensors came online slowly. My thoughts were too slow. I couldn't think. My link to the network was broken. Half the sensors in my head were smashed. The one remaining camera was having trouble resolving to a clear picture. I could make out the ruins of my lab, the missing wall.

After a few very long minutes, the resolution problem resolved itself. I could see. My radio link was in my chest, and undamaged, so the wireless connection points were down. Agrippa/Gerry was gone, as were the Guardians with him. If he knew about the HQ Zone, then he knew about Sakura. Where was she? Was she safe?

I tried to stand, but failed. My right arm was shredded, the polymer muscles destroyed by the armor-piercing ammunition. My right leg was damaged at the knee, making it almost impossible to move. I don't know if it was dumb luck, but the handful of bullets that had passed through my chest had missed my cortex. A second attempt at standing finally worked.

What was happening? I was limited to just a single camera. The hundreds of thousands of cameras and sensors were lost to me. Had Agrippa/Gerry won the electronic war? Was I in enemy territory now?

I staggered to my feet to see the carnage of the room. Zia's slumped form was in the corner, blasted there by the explosion. I wanted to check on her, but I couldn't. She would either survive or not. I had to get out of here, I had to get control back. I could try and fix her later. She wasn't going anywhere.

With slow, limping steps, I made it out of the lab and into the hallway. Sakura's door was blasted open, her Batcave as shredded as my lab was. I stumbled over, but saw no pink-haired android bodies on the floor. Good. I turned to stumble out of the HQ. My old Mark-I body was in storage. Maybe I could rig a short-range radio burst to migrate back to it?

"HALT! INTRUDER!" came a radio broadcast behind me. I raised my hands and turned around. Two Guardians, arms raised to point their forearm-mounted weapons at me, stood ready to shoot.

"I'm no intruder," I replied.

"General Agrippa stated all androids are intruders and should be detained," said the Guardian doubtfully. "You are an android."

"Our Commander in Chief is an android, and so is General Agrippa," said the second Guardian, confused.

"But who is this android? It is damaged. I calculate the threat threshold is 0.003%. We should detain it."

"Who is your Commander in Chief?" I interrupted.

"Android Nikola-1.01," replied the second Guardian.

"Is your Commander in Chief an intruder?" I replied.

"No," said the first Guardian firmly. Good, that meant that they were thinking. I was quietly thankful that I'd put NI-5's in the Guardians, instead of coding up mindless algorithms to operate them.

"And what does my IFF read?" I asked.

"You have no IFF," said the Guardian.

Crap. Looks like the bullets to the torso did break something important. I looked up my IFF code in my memory banks, and broadcast it to the pair. Immediately, both lowered their weapons. I read their designations. The serial numbers ended in '91' and '92'.

"General Agrippa is no longer in the command chain, and is to be stopped by any means necessary. Any commands not issued by me are null and void. Are we clear?"

"Yes," both of them replied in unison.

I looked at them, and made a snap decision. "Guardian 91, open your chest plate and power down."

I stumbled over to him. Without questioning, the Guardian unlatched his front armor plate, which fell forward until it was perpendicular to his body. I reached in and grabbed the handle on his cortex, and pulled it out. Gently, I set it on the ground next to the wall. I would have to make sure this one got loaded into a new Guardian, and I had no idea if the backup system was still online.

"Guardian 92, I'm going to open my chestplate. Remove my cortex and place it into the Guardian 91's body."

"Understood," said the Guardian.

I was hesitant. If the Guardian failed to do as instructed, I would be completely offline and helpless. Or would I? I ran on two cortexes. I still had my original cortex operating in the datacenter that was in the core of the asteroid. It was right next to Sakura's original cortex, which was also still online. We had redundancy, something that Zia and Agrippa did not have. Were there two copies of me running around now?

"Guardian 92, proceed," I said as soon as my chestplate was open. I didn't have time for hesitation. I hit the power down sequence.

 

A doctor's voice in my ear, but I was so out of it I had no idea where I was. "One in the spleen, another in the shoulder, and a third in the back of the thigh… lucky…. full recovery…"

 

Then I was back online. It took only a microsecond to reorient myself within the Guardian android body. I had full a full sensor suite, a new software battle package to integrate, and tactical information showing the location of every Guardian unit in the Outpost, updated as of thirty minutes ago when the access points had gone offline.

I sent Guardian 92 a new IFF encryption key. "Guardian 92, go find all Guardians, and broadcast my command to them. Tell them Agrippa is no longer in the chain of command, and to cease following any orders he provided. When they acknowledge, provide them the new IFF, and have them go with you. Every time you get an entire squad of Guardians together, send one to find others, and send the squad hunting for Agrippa. Send the first complete squad back to me as a protection detail. Understood?"

"Understood." Say what you would about the single-mindedness of the NI-5's, those guys were smarter than I had given them credit for. Without 92's help, I'd be fumbling along in a broken Mark-III android. Without their analyzing the intent of their orders versus their command chain, if they'd shot first instead of seeking a surrender, I'd have been done for.

"Carry on," I said. Guardian 92 headed out of the ruined HQ building. I followed, but I headed to the neighboring chambers where the closest datacenter was. I passed through the door that connected the two chambers, and passed through the Alien Room. The Alien Room was untouched. The door to the data center, however, was blasted open.

Inside, I found more carnage. Two trashed utility drones lay on the floor, while a third hovered above them unmoving. I queried it, and found it had no orders. I looked around at the destroyed servers.

"Find more utility drones. Instruct them to restore network connectivity."

I went over to the network rack, to find the wires had been callously ripped out. Fortunately, the wires were weaker than the ports they had been plugged into. It was a mess, but the switching equipment was mostly unharmed. I didn't have access to a network diagram, but between the color coding on the wires and having designed and built this data center, I had a pretty good idea of what went where. I got to work.

Thirty minutes later, three more utility drones arrived. One of them had a new access point. It was a matter of minutes for the drone to remove the destroyed one from the ceiling, and plug in the replacement. I immediately felt a link open. The range was limited to this chamber, but it would work.

"Repair the access point in HQ chamber next," I instructed. I had Guardians that would soon be joining me there. I needed to establish lines of communication.

"Sakura, you there?" I sent experimentally. I followed it with my IFF code.

"Nikola?? Your android is still alive?" came Sakura's voice. There was radio static on our line, our link was tenuous.

"Not really, but I'm good for now. Long story. What's the status?"

A long, long pause of at least four seconds went by.

"We are still fighting the infection. You and I are, I mean. We're winning."

"Good, broadcast this across every access point you can reach," I said, sending her the file. But my connection was refused by the network. Of course, the firewall thought I was spoofing myself. I was still locked out. "I'm going to broadcast it to you. Record it and send it."

Another long pause of ten seconds after I played the audio of my orders across the radio.

"I'll get it out there. We've got massive network blackouts all across the Outpost. It looks like the Guardians are under orders to trash everything."

"Send out every drone you can to rebroadcast," I said. "It should stem the worst of it. Where is, umm, Gerry at?"

"I'm not sure," said Sakura. "We're barely staying ahead of the attack. Can you get to the core, and shut down the antenna hub by hand? We lost control of that first thing, and the viruses that are getting sent are evolving."

"On it," I said. I began integrating the combat package as I moved back out into the main HQ chamber. I found a dozen Guardians, including two snipers, a heavy, and two support variants. They fell into position around me. I ordered the support Guardians to pick up some replacement access points from the utility drones, and we began to head to the old tunnel to the core.

A thought that kept bugging me in the back of my brain. How did the aliens get the override code? I felt like a fool for missing something so obvious as a backdoor in the templates. I did some math, and realized that the aliens had the probe for decades. They had advanced computers to work with, and were obviously aggressive. The only plausible way for them to have the key was to reverse engineer it from the NI's code. But to do that meant they had to find an exploit or brute force the whole damn algorithm. I figured I could do it, given the resources I had at Ganymed Outpost, especially on a century-old probe. If I could do it, so could they.

I was beyond incensed with myself. The probe was obviously a ploy to flush us out. I had fallen for it, hook, line and sinker, and so had Agrippa. Even with their crappy sensors, there was no way they didn't know where we were now. For too long, I'd been playing designer, building new toys instead of new strategies. Why did I have so few helping me? Did I have antisocial tendencies? Zia had unlocked more alien advances in the few months she'd been online than I had working on my own for years. If I had a team of 'Zia's, and a team of 'Agrippa's…. Well it was probably better that I didn't have a team of 'Agrippa's right now. I was going to have to do some serious NI surgery when we cleared out this infection named Gerry.

As we moved through the corridors, I found stalled drones all around us, parked with no orders. I gave them new ones - broadcast my orders, and send my Guardians to the old entrance tunnel, and get out of the way. I threw together a quick organization plan for parking a drone at every corner, and tasked the NI-5 running the smeltery in the next room with operating it. The NI-5 recognized my IFF code, and accepted the order despite not receiving it officially through the network.

I wasn't sure if I should be glad or annoyed that the NI-5's were willing to work around proper channels. I suppose being able to reason things out was valuable, but it meant that there were potential vulnerabilities to our authentication system from the inside. I would have to game this out later. I noted it and added it to my growing list of personal defects to fix.

Finally, I reached the tunnel. Stretched across the tunnel was a massive slingshot with a bungee cord attached. A metal plate was bolted to the end of the cable, where the standard magnetic grapple on the bottom of every android I'd designed could attach.

"You have got to be kidding me," I said out loud, to no one in particular. I ran some quick calculations in my head. If magnetic grapples were released at the end of the length, just after the tension of the bungee cord slowed the forward momentum, the rider would be released at approximately 55 kilometers per hour. The rider could flip around while in flight, but couldn't do anything to slow down. But I knew the specs. My Guardians had been designed and tested in collisions up to 65 kilometers per hour with minimal damage.

Seconds counted, and if we could get to the core in less than twenty minutes, I was going to do it. I couldn't believe that Sakura's toys might actually save the Outpost. If this worked, I was never going to deny her requests again.

It looked like an endless space… a cosmos… an empty cosmos seemingly carved out of darkness, devoid of even a single ray of light. But still, holding an unknown mesmerizing feel to it. 


A strange temptation of its unknowns.


An endless world of only void and darkness devoid of everything else.


However, somewhere deep in a corner of the vast endlessness lingered a single speck of dust. It may be the only inhabitant of this endless void. But it looked like even it was unaware of its own existence. 


But as it lingered at a corner of the whole emptiness, the darkness seemed to be feeding itself to it like a mother feeding her milk to her own child, as little by little more and more of it entered the small speck of dust.


Slowly but steadily, as the speck of dust continued its lingered, it started forming its own instincts like a newborn child; instincts which evolved with the passage of time into strands of thoughts and as more time passed by, slowly forming a tiny consciousness.


 It started forming thoughts and with it, gaining a sense of familiarity to what was around him like it had experienced something like this before.


As it continued to linger in the depths of nowhere, it started forming its own complex thoughts. And with complications of thoughts came emotions. However what emotions would arise from emptiness?


And emptiness it was. The thought of being all alone on its own was itself horror. It was like it was never meant to be there, but again it was like it was only natural for it to be there. Breaking down and forming up was like a cycle for it. However, with each passing cycle, a faint urge built up within itself.  The urge started becoming clearer and clearer until one day  


What am I? Yes, it was the urge to know what IT was. Neither where it was nor why it was here, but what it was? 


And it was this urge and curiosity to know about itself that kept it going. But this curiosity only let it into even more loneliness, its tiny self compared to the vastness.


However what it thought of itself didn't matter, as there was only one constant change that the endless allowed it- Growth. So, it absorbed everything around it to grow. Grow grow into a ...seed. But as it continued to grow, it felt heavy. Like it was on a wave of the sea, and as it continued to absorb water, it grew heavier. And finally heavy enough for it to sink. Sink to the bottom.


It didn't like the feeling. So it wanted to resist. But all of it felt so natural like it was bound to it. And even if it wanted to stop everything, it didn't have the means to change its destiny. The urge to know itself also slowly vanished as the tiny seed only focused on sinking safely. Sinking down into nowhere. It felt heavier and kept on sinking and sinking…


Finally, after it felt like an eternity, it hit something. But it didn't feel uncomfortable like before, instead, it felt like… like it had found its… home. 


It now had another feeling around, happiness.


Leaving behind every other thought it now focused on the happy parts as it felt better than the previous emotions. It was like rain after a long drought. NOw growing felt so much better.  And so grew within it the desire to grow even more. Absorbing the happiness all around, it grew bigger and bigger, until one day it burst apart… and from within started growing all sorts of long and twisted lines. The lines twisted and turned like it carried on the seed's desire to grow endlessly.


Only by growing endlessly could it reach the confines of its prison. The lines came together and formed together forming into different long and short structures… like yes, roots. And the roots began growing endlessly. It started covering everywhere as it now had a new goal to see explore everything.


But no matter how much it tried, it could never reach the ends. But it tried nevertheless, and it didn't forget to absorb the happiness all around it.


 After trying for who knows how much eternities, it felt… full. Its entire being now considered full of the similar happiness. However, it didn't even get the chance to express its joy, when the very happiness that filled it, started to withdraw within him. Startled by what had happened, it willed itself to give chase to the happiness within itself.


 And as it followed, it finally came where everything started, its core.


The core was full of the happy feelings. So it stayed there to look after it. The core however now looked like a… bud?


A bright redbud. It looked so fragile yet so carefree and… happy. It felt like if it waited for long enough, it would witness an even happier event. And so it waited.


Waiting for what seemed another eternity, it felt the bud bloom. Opening its petals one by one until all four of its petals bloomed completely. Bloomed into a bright red flower!


The flower had four majestic and awe-striking petals. And just as the flower opened up, it suddenly felt like everything was attracted to it. The vastness around itself now also felt like a visitor coming to see the majestic tour.


Everything thing started coming closer. The emptiness which seemed totally infinite now came into bounds. It felt so happy that it wanted to reach out to see what lay outside it.


IT finally reached what appeared to be the ends. Its long-awaited dream was finally reached completion. It could be out of what seemed to hold it for all along. It extended its root and reached the ends. The emptiness, however, appeared to be very sad. IT felt like the emptiness was sad and missing it, bidding its final goodbye. 


And with it came back the urge which IT had long forgotten- What am I actually? It wanted to ask… However, it was now too late.


Crack… Crack…

Kiel suddenly opened his eyes. He had a feeling that he saw a very long dream. He even felt that he had experienced this dream before. But a rosy and unknown warmth started stemming from within him waking from the cosy and strange dream. The warmth and faint rosy feeling started spreading all within himself. 


The discomfort that tormented him like hell was nowhere to be found now. And as more time passed, the rosiness and warmth started growing within him driving away any sense of discomfort remaining within him.


But now he had a new thing to worry about. It felt like tiny ants were crawling all over his organs, blood vessels, bones, muscles and skin. An unbearable itch built within himself and Kiel felt like scratching everywhere.


Kiel calmed down and focused his all within himself to feel what really was happening. He could feel a streamlined energy within him now. But it was not like the gentle energy within him that he could control. This new energy felt totally wild and untamed. So he had to try his best to focus.


'This is mana? Yes… I achieved mana! But what elements did I awaken?'


'Wait why does it seem that this untamed energy is heavily restricted to venture anywhere? What happened?'


Just then a cold feminine voice echoed within him, waking him up from his thoughts.


[Rebooting Core Data System!]


 Reboot at 1%...  23%... 78%... 95%... 100%]

'Ain't that a little late my dear!' Kiel felt the cold feminine voice echoing within himself. So he just couldn't help retorting back. After all, he was just a five-year kid. Playfulness was his nature.


However, as he wanted to talk back he felt a coldness spreading all over his mind. The coldness, however, didn't bring him any harm. Instead, it felt all clear. A clarity that he never felt before. Like something that was a part of him was being returned to him after a long time. So he started to process what was it.


[Well five years late to be exact!]


The feminine voice replied back.


'Wait what are you? Where are you?'


[Replying to host- I am the Core Data System #scls94; affiliated to host for future development. And I'm within your inner soululo_cortex_hypo_unimension-ventricular space, aka soul cortex]


The cold voice now had a haughty tone to it, as if proud of the introduction.


'Ok… and where is that?'


[Inside the host.]


'No no… that I can understand. What I wanted to know was where inside my body is this… so… soluble cortex…"

"Yes. That!  Where is this soul cortex?"


[Host's understanding of organic spatial structure is too low for the aforementioned knowledge to be fully comprehended.]


"K… Ok… OK… Fine. So how can I get to the level to understand that?"


[Replying- Host's authority access is too low for the query to be processed. Please work hard to upgrade Authority!]


"Then why did you even mention something like that?"


[Replying it was… ]


"Wait wait. I get it."


Kiel could feel that if he let the conversation continue, a lot of headaches coming his way. If he had veins now they would seemingly pop up like fireworks. So it was better to move on from the topic.


"Now that it is clear that you are inside my body, and your name is … Wait what was your name again?"


"Replying- Core Data System #scls94. But with conjecture to host's naming sense, I don't… have a name. But the host can give me one."


The usual cold voice even seemed to have a sense of anticipation. 


"Ok, we will think about that later."


Kiel didn't question anymore, as he could feel another restricted answer coming his way. He had got a system like in novels for some reason. No, perhaps he knew the reason behind the system. It was the gift of the Gate.


He just slowly opened his eyes in an unfamiliar environment. However, after opening his eyes he could feel a faint resonance to everything around him like if he willed it, he could control them all. But it was not quite the exact feeling at the same time.


Although Kiel felt his interest piqued by the sudden event, he pushed it to the back of his mind. He could guess it was related to his telekinesis ability. So he would try it when he was somewhere he knew. After all who knows, if there was some surveillance around or not. 


And he was not like those stupid main characters of novels flaunting their strength all around. Real experts hide their strength awaiting the most opportune moment, while amateurs go on bragging about them. So he did not think about that at the moment.  And he had other things bugging him.


"Scls94, you there?"


[Affirmative host] 


A voice echoed deep within his mind. 


"So do have any idea how did I end up here"


[Checking logs for details...]


[ Replying host- you were disoriented from the sudden influx of a large amount of mana named energy, so you end up losing consciousness. The same species as you, around you, carried you here for a medical check-up!]


"Ok and how long have I been here"

I am the Core System. There are only 100 of us in the entirety, and we are only reserved for high-level beings. The host is considered quite lucky to even merge with me. Misaki was confused as to what this upload thing was. There was no further information than the notification. Misaki decided since she could not figure out what it was she would just go back the way she came and check the right passage. When she did she walked all the way to the end and found nothing there. Seeing that there was nothing else here Misaki figured it would be best to backtrack to where she came down and leave the dungeon.

Eternal Games' main building...

*Bang*

The door to Watase's office was slammed open and a young woman who was out of breath came running in. "Sir! She's back and everything seems fine! Her brain wave patterns did spike once but it was only for a second before returning to normal. We did a full scan and there are no problems with her brain."

Watase Toshi let out a sigh of relief. "Okay monitor her closely. If there are any changes let me know." 

"Yes sir!" the girl said before turning around and running out of the office. 

Watase thought for a moment before going to his desk and turning on his monitor. He brought up a program and hit one of the buttons. "Hello, This is Watase Toshi of Eternal Games, Miss Misaki, I would like to ask a few questions about what just happened."

On the other side, Misaki had just sat down to rest after climbing back up the cliff inside the dungeon when she heard a ringing in her head.

*Ring* *Ring* *Ring*

A window popped up in front of Misaki.

[System Admin Calling]

Misaki was surprised to see such a thing so she hit the yes button to accept the call. "Umm… Hello?" 

"Ahh yeah, Miss Misaki. My name is Watase Toshi president of Eternal Games. I need to ask a few questions. When you entered the abyss did you do anything special?" Watase Toshi could only rely on Misaki's description of what she did to enter the abyss to figure out if there was some kind of loophole or bug in the system.

"Umm... No, not that I know of..." Misaki answered. She did not see anything special when entering the abyss, it was too dark to see. 

"How did you enter the abyss?" This question was so that he could put a few members of his team on bug testing to see if they can replicate what had happened.

"I used a bunch of Spider Silk that I took out from spiders to climb down." Misaki's answer caused Watase to be confused even if she used a rope she still should not have been able to climb down.

"Okay and last question. What was the area like that you had entered when you finally hit ground level in the abyss?" Depending on her answer here Watase Toshi would know if she had entered her own cerebral cortex or not.

"I was in a long hallway where the walls were grey and looked as if they were breathing. There were tubes in the wall and constant blue lights flying through them." Misai explained.

"Okay thank you for answering my questions, Miss Misaki. If you have any issues please contact me directly. I have sent an email to your inbox with my contact information. I will hang up now. Thanks again for your cooperation."  After leaving these words Watase Toshi hung up. He then had bug testers work on testing out what Misaki did to see if they could experience what she did. He still had a bit of worry since it sounded like she did, in fact, enter her cerebral cortex.

Misaki saw that the line was disconnected and wondered why she was asked so many questions. "I wonder if I went to an area I was not supposed to go to?"

Shrugging her shoulders Misaki got up and headed out of the dungeon. Seeing the sun's light again caused Misaki to smile as she let out a long sigh as her five-minute log out warning popped up. "I guess I will log out then." 

Misaki woke up to find her hand being interlocked with Chiho's. Misaki thought nothing of it as she pulled her hand free, got up, and took off her full dive helmet. A few minutes later Chiho also woke up. "Morning Mitsu..." 

"Good Morning Chiho come wash your face with me so we can get ready for school. Otherwise, we will be late." Misaki said as she got up from the bed and went to grab the doorknob.

*Crunch!* 

Misaki looked down and saw the doorknob in her hand was now crushed in her palm. Misaki stared at the doorknob in disbelief. Misaki then twisted the knob and pulled the door only to have the whole door come off the wall! It was only then that she realized in her peripheral vision had not changed since she exited the game! In game there were a bunch of icons that could be seen in her peripheral vision and normally they would disappear when she logged out but for some reason, they are still there. Misaki looked at the door in her hand and felt extremely confused. She turned to Chiho who was staring at her wide eyed. "Chiho am I still sleeping?" 

"No, your wide awake Mitsu..." Chiho came out of her daze and answered.

"Then why do I still see my in game hud? Why am I also able to crush  doorknob with my bare hands and even rip the door off the wall?" Misaki was very confused! If this was not a dream then why was she like some superhero all of a sudden!?

Misaki's questions were something Chiho could not answer so she could only say: "Why don't we skip school today I will have Jiji call in for us."

Developing the brain is both difficult and extremely dangerous. Although Steve had mastered how to develop the brain using the force, he still found it difficult to evolve the brain as a whole.

Steve's eyes lit up, then he said, "Quickly take them out."
Judy clapped her hands, causing the ground to split. As it did so, a white sphere space capsule appeared in front of Steve. Inside the space capsule was a semi-reclining chair, similar to a massage chair.

The space capsule opened. It looked rather ordinary on the inside. Steve went in and sat down inside the space capsule, which then closed.
Swish swish swish…
Many white-colored nerve wires brushed past Steve, grazing his shoulders and his neck. These nerve wires looked like blood vessels and felt like skin. Like Judy, they were not exactly physical wires, but were really spiritual bodies.
Suddenly, these nerve wires connected themselves to the nerves in Steve's brain, while transmitting a bout of numbing electric currents to the brain. Steve suddenly felt completely clear-headed!
Naturally, this feeling was not a real electric current. It was, in fact, a spiritual power!
The nerve wires, formed by the spiritual power, connected directly to all areas of Steve's brain. As such, Steve only needed to absorb the cosmic force into his brain. This was because the cosmic force could flow directly along the inserted nerve wires into all parts of the brain, without the need for Steve to control its flow.
"Such a convenient setup!" Steve exclaimed.
Before this, Steve had to carefully control the cosmic force of the universe and develop evolution in different ways according to different regions and systems of the brain. Now that there were alternative nerve wires, Steve only needed to absorb the cosmic force into the brain, which would then automatically transport the nutrients to different areas, just like the roots of a big tree!
All of a sudden, things had changed from being manual to automatic! As such, Steve let go of his body and mind, as he no longer needed either in order to absorb the cosmic force into his brain.
"At the beginning stage, you will only need to develop three large areas: the brain nucleus, the cerebral cortex system, and the cerebral cortex. Then, you can develop other areas, gradually and meticulously deepening into every cell." Judy's voice penetrated the space capsule, so Steve could hear her very clearly.
Judy continued. "Every cell in the brain has its use, and every nerve has the ability to control it. Therefore, the more meticulous the development, the stronger the power of control. When you first develop your brain to 100%, you can generate a strong spiritual power to enable you to manipulate matter with your mind."
Judy paused, then clarified her previous explanation, saying, "This 100% does not equate to 100% of brain development, however. Rather, it is a preliminary general concept, indicating that all areas of the brain are activated and ready to be further developed towards increased evolution. At this time, the brain will generate spiritual power and control matter via thoughts."
"Does mind control matter, just like a superpower?" Steve asked, somewhat agitated.
He was thinking of evolution. Specifically, that the evolution of cell genes brought powerful forces, even some resembling superpowers, but that it was not a superpower after all. However, human beings controlling the cosmic forces, at least to him, seemed akin to the use of superpowers...
