              A young man named Frank was our neighbor a playmate of my youngest brother. Mel, me and my brother was always arguing even in a petty things. One day we argue over a piece of bread so I told him to go away.
         " Why don't you play with Frank?  that''s much better , more peaceful  and there's no one  to argue with me ";, I'm trying to send my brother away to play with his friend. 
     . " I can't he had been sick for a week , he has a fever ",  my brother reasoned.
        ""That's why you're home pestering us?";, I told my brother.
            "  Of course not, but I'm also wondering because he seldom got sick, he has rashes all over his body";,  my brother said.
           "That might be cause by a mosquito bite ", my mom said.  Dengue is unknown in the Philippines yet by that time but moms really knows .
          The next day my mom told my brother to bring chicken soup for his friend but  he said he need to go to the comfort room..
            "  Tekya, please can you bring this to your Aunt Terrie ", ,my mom ask me, giving me the bowl of chicken soup ,Aunt Terrie, aside from being our neighbor  is one of the many second cousin of my mother.
              "Yes mom! and I will borrow some comics from her " , I said, television  isn't a  trend by that time, comics is the famous source of entertainment . I willingly brought the soup to our neighbor Aunt Terrie expecting to be able to borrow some comics.
              "Thanks Tekya ", Aunt Terrie said, she gladly accepted the bowl full of chicken soup.
              " How's Frank, Aunt Terrie?",I asked, after closing the door, lookiing at him lying in the sofa . Obviously, I can't directly ask her  to let me borrow some of her latest collection of comics.
               " He is still sick, which is very unusual of him because he seldom got sick" , Aunt Terrie said , sleeplessness and worries is visible in her eyes.
            ;"We had been very worried of his condition he has high fever and no appetite for foods ";, Aunt Terrie told me. They always prepared soft foods for him, like porridge and soups according to her.
              " Son, try this soup it looks delicious and smell good, please  eat even a little so you'll have renewed energy";  his mom  persuade  Frank.
           " Sorry mom, I don't have appetite for food now."  Frank replied.
           " Okay, what would you like to eat? I'll gladly cook and prepare for you, anything that will enhance your appetite ", his mom trying to convince him.
        "Thanks mom, but  I really don't have appetite for food  right now , I swear " , Frank answered.
           " Mom said that might be because of mosquito bite ", I said.
            " Really?  that might be true because  there's a lot of mosquito lately ", Aunt Terrie agreed. We are in that conversation when both me and Aunt Terrie are surprise when  Frank get up from the sofa and swiftly kicked the closed door.
              " Leave me alone, I don't want to go with you!", he hysterically said as if talking to somebody in the door while kicking them angrily.
             " Frank! what's wrong with you? why you're kicking our door?", surprise at his action Aunt Terrie asked.
             " There's two men in white who wants me to go with them mom!", Frank said.
             "  Please son stop that! you might hurt yourself", " Aunt Terrie said trying to calm him down, she check her temperature by her hand.
            " I don't see anybody!", I whisper to Aunt Terrie.
            "  I know, but he no longer have high temperature to assume he is hallucinating", Aunt Terrie whispered back to me.
            " Huh? really? ", I asked. I started to pick some comics inside her comics collection box  before I forget my purpose for coming over.
        " You want to borrow some?, at the top is the newest I purchased",, she ask me   the obvious, I just nod my head in agreement.

         The next days that follow Frank no longer have fever or flu, but Frank can no longer walk , everybody were wondering why he suddenly lose his ability to walk. Sometimes we hear him crying because his legs has no strength.
            " I want to be able to walk again mom! ", he is screaming in  frustration, tears streamed down his skinny face because of loss of nutrient in his body for eating less than required of his eleven years age for more than a week.
            '" Please be patient son, you'll get back in shape just do some legs exercises , that might be the effect of your  high fever", crying  Aunt Terrie trying to console him.
              " I will help you in practicing your legs so you can be able to walk again ", his father assured him. Everyday we saw him practicing to walk by the help of his father and his older brother step by step. Then he started walking with a cane and  It takes almost five months of  practice that sometimes frustrate him but later on his efforts had been rewarded , he had been able to walk again normally as before in the sixth month .
            " Are you okay now?", I asked him when he passby in our house to fetch my brother to play.
            " Yes, I'm fine now", he answered smiling.
           ." Good for you, I was surprised when I saw you kick the door ferociously, that might be the reason you nearly got crippled.", I told him my own observation.
             "  My mom thought the same, she said they might be an angel ,they punish me because I kicked them", Frank agreed..
           " Really,? I thought I am just assuming things, but because Aunt Terrie had the same assumption, I guess we're right", I told him.
           "  I saw them pass through without opening the door, imagine, then they want me to go with them,? I was so scared I won't be able to walk again ", Frank said.
             " At least you had been able to walk again, you had a very strong determination and you had been very tough in facing your disability", I  am trying to be honest with my opinion copying what i've read in comics.
            " Thanks  God, i'd been able to surpass my trials", he proudly said just the way Aunt Terrie say.
                   " I 'm so happy for you because you had been strong and you got what you wish", I said clapping my hands.
               " Thanks ", Frank said smiling and so proud of his latest achievement.
              " Don't ever do that again  kicking an angel because hmm, you know what will happened to you", I am trying to be funny..
              " Yes, I will nevet do that again, I swear",  he said.


         

       




Beleive it or not this is my personal experience as a child. Life for me as a child is full of mystery but exciting. Our world as a child is not as complicated as when we get older, Just full of happy memories and expectations.

Porter bought these expensive comics not only for his own collection. He only wanted one of them for himself. Most of them would be used to create gimmicks and sold when the right offer came along.
These comics, therefore, were an investment.
Li Du gasped in amazement when he found out about Porter's future plan. America was truly worthy of being the center of global economy and finance. Anything here could be marketed and used to make money.
Porter now had a different opinion about Li Du and Hans. He accepted them as true friends because they had helped him.
Therefore, when he found out that they did not understand the investment in the comics industry, he simply explained it to them.
Investing in comics to make money could be very complicated. After all, to balance the return on investment, the value of the comics collection had to be high. 
"While it's important to pay attention to the imaginary, artistic and humorous nature of the work itself, the historical background and specific age of the work also has its value. These factors affect the significance in collecting the comics. 
"A comic does not only hold value in the entertainment industry. A comic has two major values, age and symbolism.

When Porter talked about comics and investments, it totally changed his image of an introverted shy boy. His speech flowed freely and effortlessly.

After learning about the industry from Porter, Li Du and Hans were ready to leave after they had collected the money.
Li Du wanted to fly back to Phoenix at once, but Hans stopped him. "Wait, we have not had a chance to appreciate the local culture yet."
Li Du looked at him suspiciously. "Appreciate the culture? Do you by any chance mean exotic dancers or anything?"
Hans looked indignant. "What do you mean? Am I such a person in your eyes?"
Li Du nodded firmly.
Hans gave him a slight, resentful shove. Then he said, "Don't go in a hurry. There is actually a warehouse auction here. According to my information, there will be some good stuff at this auction."
This was his job. Li Du had nothing to say against that and decided to stay to participate in the auction.
In addition, he was not too eager to leave, as he had not tasted the local specialty foods yet. A foodie like him found it hard to leave without sampling the local cuisine.
Because of the large number of immigrants in the area, Miami's food and beverages had a multi-national character. There were authentic Cuban, Haitian, Brazilian and other Latin American gourmet restaurants.
The authentic Cuban cuisine was especially hard to come by and could not be found in Phoenix. Cuban food combined the flavors of the Caribbean, Africa, and Latin America, creating countless delicious combinations.
Li Du had decided his choice of dinner would be Cuban cuisine.

Porter muttered in embarrassment, "We are just friends now. It's not like you think."
Li Du believed that, as Ariana was not a type of girl to turn heads. If Porter was attracted to her, it was not due to her beauty or sex appeal.
Hans had a good point, though. Porter called Ariana, who happily agreed to be their guide, and told them to come to a restaurant called Italian Latino.
This time, Ariana was dressed in her normal casual style. She was gentle and cultured, which were rare qualities. Perhaps this was what attracted Porter.
Ariana arrived at the restaurant some time ahead and booked a table in the southwest corner. It was relatively quiet, with large floor-to-ceiling windows on both sides with the great view of the beach and greenery.
After they sat down, Ariana introduced them to the unique food in Miami. She obviously did her homework in advance and it was very interesting to get to know the local dining customs.
"The restaurant I chose is not one of the large ones, but if you want to taste authentic Cuban cuisine, you have to go to a Cuban snack bar," Ariana explained.
Li Du glanced around and said, "It looks great."
Ariana asked about their preferences in food and, together with Porter, helped them to place their order.
Li Du chose two large French baguettes. It was more than just plain bread. There were ham, roast pork, and cheese, along with mustard and pickles to complement the dish.
The waiter repeatedly confirmed, "Do you want two portions? Two?"
Li Du nodded and the waiter said, "One portion weighs five pounds, sir. So are you sure you want two?"
He nodded again. This was for Godzilla. Ten pounds of food would be Godzilla's appetizer at most.
Ariana ordered a classic ropa-vieja. "This is a signature of Cuban cuisine, cooked with chopped steaks, tomatoes, and peppers, and served with fried plantains, black beans, and yellow rice."
Other orders were marinated fried pork, fragrant roast chicken, Cuban barbecue, red bean rice, Cuban meat noodles, and curried goat meat.
Li Du wanted to order a salad. Ariana smiled and said, "No, the boss will send us a Latin American fruit smoothie. It's refreshing and appetizing. I think you guys will be very pleased."
When the waiters started serving them, Ariana asked for two more bowls of soup, spicy pumpkin and signature cornmeal.
Cuban dishes had a unique flavor that Li Du had not tasted before.
Although someone else made this food, he still gave it a try. However, in his heart, the most delicious food was always what he cooked himself.
The ropa-vieja tasted good. The soup was very rich and mellow. It had a sourish taste, which was refreshing.
Li Du ate this dish of soup together with the red bean rice and enjoyed the combination.
Ariana was very friendly and spent dinner telling them about the food and beauties of Miami. When the dinner was finally over, she asked, "Do you have a tour plan for these two days?"
Hans shook his head.
"Then I will arrange for you guys, okay?" Ariana asked kindly.
Hans shook his head again. "Thank you, but we have some business to handle."


They love gold, and they love silver. Even more so, they love gems that dazzle, like stars across the skies.

Storage auctions, old goods trade, re-estate sales and gold-digging. But the truth is, if one wants to make money, then the supreme way is through searching for the legendary treasures. 
Holding the fort, there’s an ocelot, a wolf, and an Andes condor. At the side, there’s a loyal hound, an irascible ape, and an African honey badger. Who said that you can only rely on humans when treasure hunting?! 

First of all, thank you for taking the time to read this fanfic it is my first try at writing. 

I don't plan to modify the novel as I like to think that I'm improving from chapter to chapter and there should be some value on that, but I would like to clarify some ideas that I have seen in the comments and reviews and to provide a summary to help avoid the first volume that many people have trouble reading or find annoying, so spoilers ahead.

- While the MC is punished for been lazy, the judge-entity did not want him to learn from it, he just wanted to relieve his own anger or frustration on a bad day at work that suddenly became unbearable while dealing with the last soul of the day.
- The MC do not keep his personality while passing through his punishment. He just kept the memories of anime, movies and comics/manga to realize where he is and that he cannot enjoy anything in that life.
- From the very first life of his punishment he starts to forget even those memories and in desperation he created his memory palace to keep the only pleasure available to him.
- During his first life, he only stored the sword method in his memory palace along with the note that he learned it on the first part of his punishment.
- During his second life, he only stored the most basic spells that Emiya used on Fate Stay Night along with the note that he learned them on the second part of his punishment.
- The first thing he does, as he reincarnates as a baby noble in Lukedonia, for his third life is to enter his soul memory palace. He then, starts forgetting everything he experience on his two previous lives and even the animes, movies and comics/manga that he had memorized by heart. But the memory of entering the soul memory palace remains and he manage to retain the idea of language as he continues to watch cartoons.
- Now the MC is a child in all senses, he might have the idea of language but he does not understand the language his parents use, he only remember the language in which his collection is recorded.
- He knows that he was punished for been lazy because it is written on the sword method and the spells as the only two entries that are different from everything else in his collection. So he understand that he might be living in a fantastic world and life could be worth working hard for.
- I'm working with the idea that the nobles had the same pyche that corresponds to their physical appearance. This is, if the noble looks like a 5 year-old  boy then he had the mentality of a 5 year-old even if he has been alive for 15 years as a noble in Lukedonia.
- Many are 'concerned' with his slow training, training the sword for an hour as a 5 year-old without being supervised or forced to, well I think is already quite amazing.
- While growing up, he had enjoyed watching his collection of anime, movies, novels, manga and comics with the mentality of a child getting many weird ideas and influences that would be fadding away as he grows and matures.
- He knows he is in the Noblesse world, because he had an incomplete copy of the webtoon recorded in his collection.
- In Lukedonia he had always been encoraged by kind people and never met any kind of abuse or trickery, as the traitors are already gone from Lukedonia you can think of it as a sort of utopia.
- While he was 50 years old, looking like an 8 year-old human, he obtained Frankenstein's diary along with many of his books and the energy blood, telepathy and telekinesis method of Raizel's family.
- He forged his work ethic based on Frankenstein's experimentation ideas.
- It was until he met Rael at age 100 (looking like a 13 year-old kid) and suffering a beating that he was inspired to purify his blood and developed his 'bloodbot'. It was also around this time that Seira and Regis were born.
- His blood purification was successful, but the bloodbut he created seemed out of his control, fortunately without side effects.
- He developed his blood energy method based on the spells from Fate Stay Night and the manuals from Raizel's family. Materialing swords and chains.
- He left Lukedonia for his coming of age ceremony when he was 190 years old, nobles are considered adults at 200 years of age which is also the time when the awakening occurs.
- He visited haunted places and discovered that his bloodbot devoured the negative emotions as soon as he was influenced by them providing his blood energy with dark attributes.
- The dark attributes were not hungry and corrosive as the Dark Spear, but meak and calming providing a paralizing effect.
- After nearly 5 years his bloodbot was able to work through his blood energy and he proceed to feed it with the negative emotions of ghosts and vengeful spirits saturating the bloodbot and forcing it into an evolution.
- The bloodbot evolves into a soul weapon before his coming of age ceremony providing time to adapt to his new powers before awakening. The new soul weapon 'Sombra' provides his blood energy with paralizing effect and space restriccion around the attacked target, the soul weapon takes the form of a hooded long coat with blood paterns along with a pair of wings and a couple of swords floating around him.
- As he had recieved nothing but suport and encouragement from Lukedonia since childhood, and he considers himself part of Lukedonia, he decided to share his research in blood purification and his newly born soul weapon. He is rewarded with training from the family leaders and the promise of  a position as family leader for his 300 birthday. Lukedonia is an Utopia and they treat their people with kidness and fairness so there was no danger to get into trouble.
- With the help of Rossaria, which for this fanfic purpose is a rune master, he developed teleportation trough runes and blood energy, much like Klarion the witch boy from DC (a rune arc rotates slowly around him to teleport him to another location - young justice). No useful for battle, but extremly useful for traveling.
- Also with the help of Rossaria and the runes, he managed to create an space within his soul weapon where he can store items permanently or keep people for short periods of time.
- He accompanies Seira as she leaves Lukedonia for her coming of age ceremony and they become a coupe during their travels.

Finally, my birthday...Yet I still have school. Wow... Which is annoying is, it was already the rainy season, but it didn't rain... But I need to call my friends after school, We're going to hang out at my house. Playing and doing things, I have been thinking that I didn't hear nor notice my teacher calling me to answer a problem on the blackboard, God...Math is hard...
After school, 3:40 pm 

It's funny how everybody in my section hates Mathematics, it's literally hard. Like half of the class in my section are failed in Mathematics, there are only two smart kids in my section, Kenneth and Michaella, well, Michaella is smart though, but she is weak at math, I like seeing Kenneth help her, I can feel the chemistry. They're better together, but I know that I shouldn't be jealous of them because I still don't have someone to help them with problems, but I know, the thoughts in my head are saying that "Don't get jealous, you'll get this someday." I also imagine myself as Kenneth and Zelda is Michaella I should not make it obvious to them because they're my friends too, I should be happy for them. And also for my own sense of humor, I tease them about them being together, but secretly, they ARE together.

I texted my friends that we're going to meet up at my house today, they all answered at the same time that made my phone lag, plus I doubt that Zelda isn't awake yet, but it doesn't hurt to visit her now, it'll just be a ten-minute walk from the hospital to my house

Ten Minutes Later
I finally got home, seeing my friends outside the door of my house, I went up to them, opening the door and opened the lights, Josh and Jesmery has their sleeping bags, Kenneth and Michaella holding hands, Ronald with his manga books, Marla with her TWD comics, and I, have bought recent volumes for a manga I'm trying to finish, not ready for season four of the anime though, I asked:
"Y'all need anything? And by the way, Josh and Jes, Why'd y'all have a sleeping bag?"
"We want to sleep here," she said, laughing at her own words
"...really? That's great, I'm always alone here. Thanks," I said, smiling back at them.
"Oi, John, I really need water." Said Kenneth,
"Get it your own, you lazy ass kid," I answered him, Laughing
"...I hate you..." he said back to me, with a dire expression on his face,  his eyes are covered with his hair,
"I'm sorry" walking away, laughing silently
I went to show them my room and my collection, my manga collection, I'm planning on completing Attack on Titan first. Before the other mangas, I noticed Ronald has his whole freek'n One Piece collection with him, it's heavy, so he and I carried half of it. Cause it has 97 volumes, I'm wondering how Ron carried it all the way here even though his house is like 15 minutes away from my house, like how..? Then Marla, on the other hand, is just an independent smart girl that loves TWD, and I, myself also like The Walking Dead, I'm still starting to collect the comics. But I'll ask her later how much is for one volume of The Walking Dead, and you know what they say, the Manga/Comic is always better than the Anime/Television adaptation. Then I asked them
"Y'all want to watch anything? I have Netflix on my tv."
"Yeah, sure," said Kenneth
"What show?" Ron asked
"Any anime..?" Jesmery asked
"Eh, The manga is better," I said
"How about Zombieland and Zombieland Double Tap?" Marla Recommended
"Oh, yeah! I know that! I have been wanting to watch those for a while now." I said
I opened Netflix on my tv and played Zombieland then went to my kitchen preparing food, I asked them if they want to stay over because my house has two guest rooms, They answered
"Yeah, bro! And please, continue making the pops man, we're hungry as hell over here."
"Okay..?"
I finished making their "Pops" and they are still watching there, laughing at the jokes in Zombieland, but I'm here, writing a poem in my head.

Those spiral of thoughts are so long and so deep that it continued to pierce my heart thinking of that poem I made for Zelda, but I try to forget those thoughts and went to my friends, sitting down on my couch next to my best friends in my life, I've always wondered if we'll still be friends in the future knowing that we'll all part ways someday...That's the thing that hurts me the most, thinking of our future but, to me, I know it's bad to think about what is gonna happen in the future, that you should always focus on the present, then think what do you want to be in the future, who'll you be in the future, will we be successful or not in the future, but no, just think about yesterday, I will just accept the life I have now. Because those who don't accept their lives are just wasting their own life to their own spiral of thoughts in their head. I just want to be with her, I just want to, I don't want to lose her. Just- I don't want any more people losing. I just don't- I better accept this life, but one day, we'll all meet again, right? Or no? But that's the thing about life, you don't know the answers until you grow old, It's your choice to accept the life you have, or you don't, it's my choice to accept my life. I know what it feels to be alone as well, I know that the worst part of being truly alone is you think about all the times you wished that everyone would just leave you be. Then they do, and you have left being, and you turn out to be a terrible company. I cried next to my friends and they asked 

"John..? Are you okay?"
"I was so good at being a kid, and so terrible at being whatever I was now," I answered

Some things never really change the way we are...

"I thought to myself that, should I confess to her this early? It's just five days until Valentine's day. Should I do it now? Nah, I'll do it on the fourth day before Valentine's, but my thought wasn't clear. I felt like confessing now is the right thing to do... I felt like I need to say it but I can't... I can't force myself to not say it. But it's getting to me, it's getting annoying... I keep hearing and seeing illusions... I hear and see, My own Nightingale Illusions...."

*12 years old*
I was on a walk through my neighborhood in Rockland County, New York, and I noticed there was a moving van in a "for sale" driveway. Was someone moving in?
Suddenly, a boy jumped out from behind a hedge. The boy had blue eyes, a big smile, and a strong jaw.
He jumped out from behind the hedge so suddenly, I screamed aloud. Quickly I stifled the scream with both hands. I looked around and saw a few curious faces poking out from behind their curtains. The boys smile widened, and I shot him a dirty look.
"What's your name?" He asked me, bobbing up and down with excitement, "I'm Sebastian. My mom and I are moving here from Vienna, Austria. Mom played piano there, after the revolution. Where do you go to school?"
"I'm Clara," I said slowly, "I've lived here my entire life. I too play piano, it's a beautiful instrument. I go to Rockland County Day School. I'm twelve, how old are you? Do you know where you are going to school? What was it like in Austria?"
He started speaking slowly, but sped up as talked, "I'm eleven, we're almost the same age. It was okay in Austria, but I only lived there for four years. I'm going to Rockland County Day School too! What is the headmaster like? Is he mean? Is he strict? Is he playful? Is he goofy? Does he allow any fun?"
"He's strict," I started, "But not too strict. He allows a little fun, within reason, and for the most part It's a fun school. There is agricultural classes, and more. Headmaster Fruhauf is a little goofy, and kinda playful. Where did you live before Austria?"
"I lived in Constanta, Romania," He said, "We moved because my mom needed better job opportunities. The school sounds nice."
I noticed he was becoming more shy as we got to know each other better. He was talking slower, thankfully he was because with his accent, I was having a lot of fun trying to figure out what he was saying.
"Your mom sounds nice," I said, "How about your dad, what's he like?"
His face darkened, "I don't know my dad. My parents divorced when I was two, and I never visited him."
"Oh," I said, barely audible, "Sorry, I didn't realize that..." I trailed off, not really sure of what to say, "I'm sorry, maybe I should continue my walk."
"It's okay," he brightened, "You didn't know. You don't have to go."
Sebastian was interrupted by a woman yelling, "Sebastian!!!"
"Coming Mom," He yelled, "Do you want to come?"
"Where?" I asked.
"Inside," He said, "To see the house."
"I don't know," I said, "My mom wouldn't know where I am."
"You can use our phone to call her," He said, "Come on, it'll be fun!"
"As long as I can call her," I said, "I guess it's fine."
He grabbed my hand, and took of running. I barely kept up, tripping over my heels once or twice. He pulled me inside, and into his kitchen. A woman who looked very tidy was directing two men on where an oven best fit. She turned our direction when she heard us walk in.
"Why are you wearing your shoes Sebastian?" She asked, "Who is this? Today we work, not play with new people."
Her English was worse than Sebastian's, and her accent stronger.
"Nooo!" She yelled, "Not there here, put it here! Creiere de mazăre! Acolo! Pune-l acolo!"
I had no idea what a "Creiere de mazăre" was, but it didn't sound like a compliment.
"Nu Nu NU! Acolo! Grabă!" She yelled, "Hurry."
I didn't know exactly what she was saying, but i got the idea from all her frantic hand gestures.
"Calmează-te mama. Te rog, calmeaza-te," Sebastian soothed, his voice sounded a lot less angry than her's, "Acești creieri de mazăre încearcă să ajute. Vă rog să nu strigați la ei. Nu vreau să mă rănesc."
His mom was calming down fast. She turned her gaze toward us again. She squatted down, and put her hands on Sebastian's shoulders.
"Vă mulțumesc că ați încercat să mă calmați dragi," She said, "Te iubesc. Ce vrei, Sebastian?"
Vreau să-i arăt în jurul casei, dar trebuie să o sune mai întâi pe mama," He explained, "Poate folosi telefonul?"
"Desigur că poate," She replied, "cum se numește?"
"Numele ei este Clară," He answered, "Locuiește doar pe stradă."
"Hi Clara," She said, "Do you live near here? "
"Yes," I replied.
"You may use the phone."
"Thank you," I said.
"It is nothing."
*22 years old*
"Hi," I was tutoring my friend Sebastian in college level Math, "Remember the day we met?"
"Yeah," He responded, "And I scared you."
"What does 'Creiere de mazăre' mean?" I asked.
"What?"
"That's what your Mom called those men," I explained, "The ones who were moving your on the day I met you. I almost translated it online, but I decided it would be funner if I asked you."
"Oh," He said, "'Creiere de mazăre' means 'pea brains' in Romanian. She called them that cause she was tired, and they didn't seem to understand her."
"Ohhhhhh," I said, "That makes sense."
"Yep," He said, "Shall we begin?"
An hour and a half went by, and Sebastian didn't seem to remember anything I'd said. Like it'd gone in one ear and out the other.
"You don't really need help do you?" I asked, thinking about what my mom had said in the car.
"No," He whispered, "I don't need help with math."
"I was kinda wondering why someone who was gonna be an actor would take a college math class," I explained, "Why did you ask for help?"
"Ummm," He said, "I-i-i I like you Clara."
"I'm sorry," I said, "I just want to be friends. Is that possible?"
"Yeah," He responded, "It's cool, I just hoped you liked me too."
"No," I said, "I'm not in love with you, and I doubt you are with me. You just have grown attached to me. Remember what Pastor said on Sunday about resisting urges. Love is not an urge, love is acting in accordance with the Ten Commandments. It's impossible to act in accordance with the Ten Commandments. All we can do is trust in Jesus Christ to save us."
"I know," He said, "I just, never mind. Since you're not tutoring me anymore, can I go? I was gonna hang with Anthony today."
"Yes."
"See ya around sometime."
"See ya," I said, then barely audible, "sometime."
*32 years old*
I flipped through the channels on my cable TV. I'd just moved out of my apartment, and into my own house. I chose "Captain America; The First Avenger." It looked new-ish by the quality, so I settled with it. I don't really do much "movie watching," so I had no idea they had made a Captain America movie.
I'm your stereotypical nerd, except I don't wear glasses. I love reading the original comics of anything superhero, and I have a nice collection. My mom loves reading the comics too, as does my dad. We sometimes would have "family comic time" when we'd all sit in the living room reading our favorite comics. We haven't done that since I was twelve, before my mom cheated, and before my parents divorced.
When I'm down, I will go to my comic shelf, and pretend I'm a carefree kid again. My parents couldn't decide on who would get the comics, so they decided I would. Now I have the family comic collection, and my own comics that I've collected through the years.
Anyway, back to the movie. Steve was getting beat up behind the theater, and suddenly a guy in an army suit walks up. It took me a minute to recognize him, but I knew that face from somewhere. It was Sebastian, my childhood best friend.
I whipped out my laptop just to be sure, and then I double checked again.

"Bucky Barnes, Portrayed by: Sebastian Stan."
I opened my email, and started a message to him.
"Hey Baz,
I didn't realize there was a Captain America movie until today, when I was flipping through channels. I noticed I recognized the actor for Bucky Barnes, and I looked him up. I hadn't realized how far your acting career would take you, but I guess I know now.
Please respond. I'm not just messaging you for your fame, you know I'm not that type. I just want to talk, and exchange stories. I haven't seen you for ten years. I hope you, your mother, and Anthony Fruhauf are doing well. I miss you, and I'm sorry we didn't keep in touch through the years.
I can't believe I never thought of emailing you until now, but know, I was and always will be a friend in need.
Sincerely, Clara Matthews"
Baz was my old nickname for Sebastian. He never liked it when I called him Seb, Sebby, or Bash, so we settled with Baz. We were pretty tight for the ten years that we talked, so I hoped he would respond.
I started watching the movie again with renewed interest. It was way different from the comics, but it was still a good movie.
Examples of the differences:
Bucky was a boy, not the same age as Steve                                                                                                The story is slightly different, but I guess it depends on which comics you read.
Anyway, half an hour after I finished the movie, I was in the middle of making blueberry muffins. Suddenly, my phone rang. Riiinnnggggg, riiinnnggggg, riiinnnggggg. I set down the Muffin batter, and grabbed my phone. I looked at the number, but I didn't know it. I answered anyway.
I answered my phone and put it on speaker, so I could finish my muffins.
"Hello," I said.
"Hey Clara," He said, "How are you?"
"Good," I said, apparently we were pretending that we had talked throughout the ten years since I'd seen him last, "You?"
"Pretty good," He said, "I got your email, and decided not to respond via email."
"That's okay I guess," I replied, "Just so long as you responded."
"What have you  been doing lately?" He asked.
"Well I just moved into my own house."
"What's it like?" He asked.
"Well, it's got three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, an office, and a kitchen," I started, "I just randomly started craving blueberry muffins, so I'm making them right now. I love blueberry muffins, they remind me of you. Are they still your favorite food?"
"Yeah," He said, "I still like blueberry muffins. What kinds of foods do you like?"
"Umm," I said, "You know when somebody asks you a question, and your mind suddenly blanks with regard to every food you know except the food that the person who asked the question likes? That just happened to me. I like blueberry muffins I guess."
"Nice," He said, "They're good."
"Where have you been going to church lately?" I asked, when I'm under stress my brain automatically goes to religion.
"I haven't," He said, "Been going to church at all lately."
"How long has it been?" I pressed.
" Three years," He mumbled.
"Three years?!" I yelled, "Three years?! You know Martin Luther said that you should have communion at least four times a year. He says that if you don't you're more likely to fall out of faith. Please tell me that's not what happened."
"I can't," He admitted, "I know you are a pastor's kid, and I know that religion means a lot to you. We are not the same. I grew up, and had this religion pressed upon me. I was tired of moving, tired of changing, and tired of getting rejected. I was tired of believing. The only thing I wasn't tired of was acting, so I knew I would cling to that. Now, since I kept up with that, look where I am. I bet you if I hadn't left behind my faith and 'grew up' I wouldn't have made it this far. I needed to let go, it was just too much."
"Baz," I started, "Please, for me, I know it's a Saturday right now, but go to church this Sunday. It will be refreshing to hear the word of God again, to be in His house again. Go to church. Listen to everything the pastor says. Drink it in, for it is the water of life. You were baptized, act like it. Please, please, don't leave faith and God behind forever. remember the Ten Commandments."
"I know Clara."
I cut him off, "Remember that you can't keep them all, and you need Jesus to save you!"
"Clara," He started, "I'll try to make it to church, but I can't make any promises. You have to understand that it's hard for me to make time for these things right now."
"I understand," I confirmed, "But I still think religion should be your first priority. Thank you."
"How are those muffins going?" He asked.
"The timer has five minutes left," I said, "They smell pretty good. You did well as Bucky."
"Thanks," He said.
"You know most people in your place would avoid a conversation about church," I noted, "You didn't. You listened to what I had to say."
"Yeah," He said, "I guess it depends who you're talking to. I know I can't avoid that convo with you."
"Probably true," I agreed, "Well, Where are you right now?"
"Washington D.C.," He replied absentmindedly.
"What's up?" I asked, "Why're you distracted?"
"Text from Joe Russo," He said, "Work starts at eleven tomorrow."
"Than you still have time for 9:00 church," I stated.
"Yeah," He said.
"There's one Romanian Orthodox church in Washington D.C.," I informed him, " It's called 'Saint Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral'. It looks okay."
"I'll check it out," He said.
We sat there for a few seconds, in silence.
"Hey," Baz broke the silence, "I was wondering how your family was doing? Where is your younger brother in life? How's your dad?"
"My brother, Nicholas, is in college," I responded, "My dad is doing good."
"I gotta go," he says, "Duty calls. Well, not 'duty', but my boss calls."
"Okay," I said, and shoved a warm muffin into my mouth, "Well, Imma call you tomorrow, 'cause I live alone, and I'll probably be bored. When do you get off work? I get off at three pm, so you can call me anytime after that."
"Uhh," He responded, "I'll probably get off at five, but I'll call you as soon as I get off. Hope those muffins turned out well. Talk to you later. Bye."
He hung up.
That was nice, talking to him again. He really sounded the same. I can't believe I told him that I like blueberry muffins because they remind me of him. It made me sound like I was in love, which I obviously wasn't. 
Really....
Not in love with him...

James woke up right as his alarm sounded letting him know it was time for work. As he sat up in bed he noticed that his new body was as hard as a rock. He still couldn't believe that he turned into an athlete after just one night of heavy work at the gym. As he made his way into the bathroom it dawned on him that he would be nearly unrecognizable to his coworkers now. He started to panic his thoughts raced until his phone rang. He ran over and picked it up looking at the screen. His manager was calling so he picked it, "Hello, this is James."

"Hey, Jimmy, I have bad news kid, last night someone burned down the restaurant so we are closed for at least a month if the owners decide to reopen. So I am afraid I have to let you go. You can pick up your last check over at corporate HQ which is at the downtown plaza. Sorry kid, it was nice working with ya." His manager Ralphie half mumbled and cried as he gave the bad news.

"Ah, I see, thank you, sir, it was nice working with you as well." Jimmy woodenly replied. he hung up the phone and thought, 'This is bad. I have no car and no job.' He started to pull one of his shirts over his chest only to have it rip at the seems. He frowned and tossed it aside before finding a blue "I heart Comics" T-shirt, the largest that he owned and pulled that over his. Thankfully it mostly fit him, even though it was incredibly tight. He grabbed some black sweat pants that clung tightly to his new powerful legs as well. He looked in the mirror and shook his head thinking, 'No car, no job, and no clothes. Can things get any worse?"

An incredible sense of danger started to send an adrenaline boost through his body he didn't know why but he was compelled to get out of his apartment. He rushed for the door just as something exploded in the apartment underneath of his. The floor collapsed and the fire roared up into his apartment just as he jumped through the doorway. He watched as his comic book collection slid into the inferno. He clung to the railing along the stairwell dangling by one arm he watched as the building slowly started to collapse, he let go of the rail and fell twelve feet to the ground below. Thankfully his new body was able to shrug off the quick pounding pain from the drop and he was able to run clear of the ruined structure. He stood and looked at the fire. His whole body felt numb as he watched the fire roaring through his upstairs apartment taking his years of collecting along with it. His cheeks felt wet as the tears started to come. He felt like everything was over. All of the finds he had made, all of the issues he meticulously searched out from sales and comic book conventions were lost forever in the blaze. He had insured his collection but what good was money, how could money bring back all of the hours of work he had put into that collection. 

The fire department quickly arrived, but it was already too late. A short time later a policeman came up to him and asked what happened. He started to talk about the explosion and the police officer nodded and said, "Everyone else heard the explosion too, which apartment were you in?"

James wiped his eyes and then pointed to the ruined apartment above the epicenter of the explosion. He said, "Everything was fine, then I just felt like I had to get out of my apartment then boom, the floor caved in and fire climbed up the walls like it was alive eating my entire collection. All I could do was jump off the balcony to get away."

The policeman nodded and then asked a strange question, "Did you see a man in a purple suit with horns on it running from the scene?"

James looked at him strangely and then asked, "No, should I have?"

The policeman shrugged and then said, "Some of your neighbors mentioned a man about your size wearing a purple suit fleeing the scene. They said he was laughing and claiming he was going to destroy the world. We have reports of a similar looking man committing crimes all over the city today. Can anyone vouch for your whereabouts last night?"

James turned and looked at the gym across the street, "I was working out until six A.M. at the gym there. I should be on the cameras." He half mumbled. 

The policeman looked at him again and then asked, "hey buddy are you ok, you don't look so good?" 

James looked at the officer and then tears started down his cheeks, "My entire collection was in there. I had years worth of comic finds. All my number ones, all my first appearances, my signed prints. It's all gone. That was twenty years of collecting. It's all gone."

The policeman gave him a pat on the arm and said, "Sorry kid, I have a collection myself. I understand what it means."

James asked him, "Comics?"

The policeman shook his head and said, "Baseball cards."

The two men looked at the fire together, one collector to another. James asked, "Why would anyone blow up this apartment building? We're all poor here." 

The policeman looked around and then said softly, "Kid, some people just have an evil side to them, you can't reason with them, you can only try to stop them before they do too much harm." He slapped James on the back and said, "The Red Cross will be here soon if you don't have a place to stay they'll take care of you."

As the policeman walked away James stared at his back, the words reverberating through his consciousness, "...some people just have an evil side to them, you can't reason with them, you can only try to stop them before they do too much harm." He looked up into the sky and said, "Is that what you want from me? You took what I loved most to give me the motivation to be a fucking hero? Well, fuck you! I am not a hero, I'm a comic book collector!"

A short while later James was given a room at a local seedy motel, some clothing, and phone numbers for charity organizations that might be willing to help. James was walking to the motel which was three blocks away carrying an old suitcase with the donated clothes in it when he saw a flyer on a telephone pole. He walked over and pulled one of the numbers off as he read it, 'See the numbers? Call us, we can help you become someone better than you are.' James hesitated and then dialed the number. It clicked a few times and then a woman with a smokey sultry voice answered, "Thank you for calling, I just have one question for you, what do you see in the corner of your eye?"

James thought for a moment and then said, "Plus one. In red."

The woman on the other end of the phone chuckled and then said, "Stay right there a car will pick you up in two minutes."

James started to get slightly anxious, "Just who are you?" 

She chuckled and then said, "Me? Not nearly as important as you Mr. Crosby. You are someone who will become a hero. Or a villain. I just hope that you will give us the chance to make a case for the hero." 

A fancy black car pulled up to the curb and the driver stepped out and opened the back door and said, "This way sir." 

James started to have a very bad feeling about it, but he had nothing left to lose and only something to gain from meeting the mysterious woman. He walked over and the driver took the suitcase from him and asked, "Anything in here you'll miss?" James shook his head. The driver tossed the suitcase away as if it were trash and then gently closed the door and stepped back into the driver seat. He chuckled and said, "Don't worry, you'll get real clothes. Your days of working at Burger Kang are over Mr. Crosby. You are big time now." 

James started to sweat a bit he started looking at the car for ways to escape or defend himself if needed. The driver chuckled at him and asked, "Mr. Crosby, you know the number you see in the corner of your eye?" James nodded. The driver smiled and said, "The number is your personal growth." He turned the corner and then continued, "Most of the awakened have yellow numbers. Some of us have blue numbers. A tenth of us has purple numbers. One of us has red numbers, and she is the most powerful of us. So you see, you are someone that we are greatly interested in meeting with. Even if we don't convince you to join us, we're still ready to support you." 

James frowned and then looked out the window and said, "Man, I am not a hero. I am just a guy who collects comic books and works at a fast food joint. What can I do?" 

The driver laughed and said, "You know what I did before? I was an accountant. After the awakening, I realized everything in my life was getting too easy. That blue number kept annoying me and I slowly started to notice my body shaping up and my mind getting sharper. Everything I tried, I improved until I was an expert. I learned anything I wanted to learn. Languages, martial arts, physics, history, math. I thought I was the king of the world, and then I met a purple. Woo, they are amazing. A purple can do impossible things. Move shit with their minds, start fires with their minds, read your thoughts. Purples make us blues look like morons." He shook his head. 

James took a breath and then asked, "What about reds?" 

The driver turned and grinned at him and said, "You reds? You can do anything. The only limit is you."

James frowned and then asked, "Are there any red villains?" 

The driver shrugged and said, "Maybe? When one appears, a lot of people are going to be hurt. A lot of comics will be destroyed."

James frowned hard and then asked, "Do you guys already know everything about me?" 

The driver smiled and said, "She's red, my friend. Just like you. When you get to her level pulling someone's entire life from a phone call will be as easy as finding the answer with Giggle." 

James blinked and then asked, "Giggle?"

The driver looked at him like he was stupid, "Yeah, you know Giggle. The search engine for the internet. Everyone knows Giggle man."

James sighed and then nodded, "Right, sorry, Giggle. I forgot. I just lost my home, my car and my job so I am a little out of it still."

The driver raised an eyebrow at him and then said, "We're here." He got out of the car and then opened the door for James, "Just take the elevator. It's a private elevator that stops where she wants it to stop."

James looked back at him and the driver gave him a thumbs up. James stepped into the elevator and the doors closed. A second later they opened again and James was looking at an enormous well-decorated apartment. He couldn't help feeling like the person who lived here had great taste. Even the decorations were things he would choose. The wall even had a mural done by his favorite comic book artist.

A beautiful woman wearing a smart business suit with a short skirt and tall heels walked into the room. Her heels clicked over the floor and she gave him a smile and said, "It was short notice, we didn't have time to find any comic books for you, you'll, of course, want to find the ones that have meaning to you."

James looked around and then asked, "You mean?"

She nodded, "This is for you. What we are asking from you in return is to train and become a hero." 

James frowned and then asked, "What kind of hero?" 

She walked over to the window and waved her hand transforming the glass into a wall of TVs showing different catastrophes all over the world. She said, "Some of these are natural disasters others are man-made disasters. What we do is find the ones made by men, find out if the men can be trained, and if they can't we eliminate them." 

James frowned and then asked, "Government funded and owned?" 

She shook her head and said, "The government has their own people that only worry about threats from abroad and for corporations like mine." She looked at him and then said, "I'm sure you have already figured out some of it. How long did you use the gym, an hour, two?" 

He smirked and then said, "Ten hours. I was skinny. You already know all this, don't you? You read my mind." 

She chuckled and then said, "Mhm, I did. Naughty boy." She waved her hand and the glass returned to normal. She walked near him and then said, "I know that under your selfish comic book loving exterior, you have a secret desire to be a hero. Well, congratulations. You are one. Just give me the chance to show you how great you can become." She held her hand out to shake. 

James frowned and then asked, "Is this a job offer or something more?" 

She laughed and said, "Neither, it's a chance. A chance for you to become what you have always dreamed of becoming and more." 

James looked in her eye and then said, "Alright, I'll give it a try." He shook her hand only to have her send a jolt through his mind. The red numbers at the corner of his vision showed numbers he had never dreamed of seeing before. "+ 90,016" "+ 100,064" "+80,097" the numbers scrolled by at incredible speeds and then he collapsed on the floor. His vision blacked out and then he drifted into a deep sleep. 

He heard her voice in his mind as he slept. She was teaching him about the world, about the reality he found himself submerged in. Her voice was at times soothing, at other times forceful. She showed him what the evil villains were capable of doing and what the good heroes were capable of doing. She showed him her failures and her successes. She let him see what the world had been like for her as she expanded her powers. He saw the mistakes she made and how she cut corners that he shouldn't with his own training. He wondered if she was holding things back from him as he watched and soon found himself invading her personal memories, her life as seen through her eyes. She found him and kicked him out as he was watching her have her first time. She admitted to him, "It's true, I used to be a frumpy looking girl. I changed how I looked after I got my powers."

He found that comforting somehow like he shouldn't be as intimidated by her looks. He started to realize what they meant by a red could do anything they wanted. She had the ability to alter the universe. It was limited for sure, they weren't gods, but it was incredibly powerful in the right or wrong hands. For some reason the policeman's voice entered his mind once again, "...some people just have an evil side to them, you can't reason with them, you can only try to stop them before they do too much harm." A hero. Yes, he was supposed to be a hero.

The story of a Comic Book Collector who is brought to a world where he finds out that he is one of the special people who can earn experience and level up to become a superhero.
