Chapter 15: Orley 
I’d only made it a few steps before another woman was trotting in my direction. She was holding the hand of a little girl who was probably around eight or nine. The little girl had a swingy, sable-colored bob, bright eyes, and a gap-toothed grin. She was wearing cowboy boots that clomped noisily on every step but her mother seemed oblivious to the noise. The woman heading toward me was also a brunette but her dark hair was slashed through with pops of pink, purple, and teal making her look edgier and cooler than I ever would. She had on a pair of glasses that looked both retro and trendy, but her eyes were friendly and curious as she regarded me from behind the lenses. I was getting ready to apologize for blocking the way when Noble suddenly bounced in my arms and pointed at the woman’s arm.
“Star Wars!” Noble’s excited squeal brought a smile to the woman’s face as I glanced down at her arm. The sleeve she had tattooed there did indeed depict Noble’s favorite movie.
“That’s right. It is Star Wars.” The other woman’s daughter giggled as she watched Noble wiggle excitedly in my hold.
“Who’s your favorite character?” I could have kissed that gap-toothed face in relief when the other little girl distracted my cranky kid. Noble was more than happy to babble about Chewie and Princess Leia as I focused my attention on the mother.
“Sorry. It’s been a day. We’ll get out of your way.” I offered a wobbly smile and saw a flash of sympathy in her kind eyes.
“No rush. My husband and I are huge Star Wars nerds, so Riley is well versed in the Force. She doesn’t mind chatting about the movies, especially when someone asks about the tattoo.” She cocked her colorful head to the side and gave me a considering look. “Did you move in recently? I thought I knew all the moms in the building. I watch a lot of the kids who live here since I work from home and know just how hard being a working mom can be.”
I felt my eyes widen and my teeth snap down on my lower lip. She was the friend Solo mentioned. The one whom he encouraged me to reach out to. The one I’d decided was probably a horrible person without even meeting her, because she lived in this place, a place that I hated. Embarrassment washed over me in hot waves as I shifted uneasily under Noble’s animated antics as she mimed the Death Star blowing up.
“I’ve.. uh… been here a few months. So kind of new, and we don’t go out much. This is Noble and I’m Orley.” I offered the weak introduction as the woman continued to watch me.
“Ahhh… You’re Solo’s broken bird. The building has been talking about you. It’s pretty impressive you got him to give up any of his precious time to help you with your car. That boy is so busy, he’s going to run himself into the ground before he’s thirty. I’m Erica and this is Riley, by the way.” She arched a perfectly groomed eyebrow at me and gave me a faint grin. “Solo mentioned he passed my number along because you needed someone to watch the little Jedi. I was hoping you would call so I could at least give you a list of all the mom-approved places around here you might want to take Noble. It can be scary outside the front door but, believe it or not, there are some family-friendly options nearby you should have in your arsenal for those days you can’t stay inside.”
This woman was so nice… and helpful. It was probably clear I’d blown her off and been judgmental, but she was still throwing me a much-needed life raft.
I cleared my throat and put Noble down so she could stand on the step with the other little girl. My daughter had moved on from Star Wars to the girl’s cute cowboy boots. No doubt as soon as we were back upstairs she would be demanding a pair of her own. I would end up promising her a pair, one more promise it was going to take me Lord only knew how long to follow through on.
“I would love that list, thank you. Our air conditioner has been on the fritz for three days and Noble is going stir-crazy inside. I apologize for not reaching out sooner. I’ve been looking for a second job and time has really slipped away from me.” It had become a black, chilling void I was terrified I would never escape from. I lifted my sweaty hair off the back of my neck and made a face. “I don’t want to keep you. I’ll give you a call before the end of the week.”
She made a hum of agreement and told me, “Let Solo know the super is slacking. If he gives that jerk a call your unit will be fixed within the hour. The man is useless, but he’s terrified of Solomon. I’m in apartment 3F. Just come on down when you have a free afternoon. You can bring Noble by to meet some of the other kids in the building.” I nodded and went to move around her, but paused when she put a light hand on my arm. “I would be happy to watch her for you in a pinch if you need to go to an interview or anything. I have a list of references and a whole host of qualifications. Those of us who grew up around here and never made it out, or didn't want to leave, try and take care of each other.”
I shook my head and swallowed past a brick in my throat. “I’m not from here though.” And I had no intention of asking Solo for another thing. I was not going to be his newest burden to bear. Everyone seemed to know he was already carrying the entire world on his shoulders, and I wasn’t about to add on another pound to his heavy load.
Erica smiled sadly and patted my arm. “Oh, trust me, I know. Anyone looking at you knows that. But you’re here now, so you might as well settle in the best you can with the right people in your corner.” She cocked her head to the other side and I found myself watching the peacock colors in her hair play hide and seek with the other, darker strands. “Have you ever waited tables before?”
I balked and tried to keep up with the change of conversation. “Uh… no. I haven’t done much of anything other than answer phones.” And look pretty. That used to be my number one skill, but I refused to think about that.
“My husband’s brother works at this cute little diner right on the outskirts of the city. He just got promoted to a management position after bartending there forever. They tend to hire college-aged kids so they're always looking for help right around graduation. I’ll give you Ramon’s number.” She waited while I dug out my cell phone and could jot down the quickly rattled off information. “Call him and see if they have any openings. Tell him Erica sent you his information and remind him he owes me a favor.” She smiled at me and called for her daughter. Riley hugged Noble and patted her on the shoulder, much like her mother had done to soothe me. “Good luck with verything, Orley. Noble, it was nice to meet you, I’m sure Riley can’t wait to show you all her Star Wars toys.”
They continued down the stairs, my daughter and I both slightly stunned, as we watched them until they were gone. I reached for Noble’s hand, wondering how more people in this God-forsaken city had come to my rescue and offered genuine help, than anyone in my affluent, pristine past had? What were the odds?
I took one step, headed back up the stairs, when Noble promptly announced, “I want a pair of cowboy boots!”
Well, at least she wasn't asking me for a pony. It was the small things.

May 14th, Friday, a new week for movie screening started. High School Musical was officially screened on a large scale. It was on the movie listings of 3,150 cinemas!
This day, numerous students ran out of school when classes were over. They rushed to the closest cinema to buy tickets for the first session this night to watch High School Musical. However, to many students' surprise, the tickets for the first session had been sold out. Where did all of the tickets go? Most of them were sold at midnight. And most of the rest was sold at noon. Just before school was over, some students who had arrived "a little early" had bought the rest.
"Oh, come on. How is this possible?!" In a cinema in Chicago, a white high school student was looking at the box-office clerk with a pitiable face. "If I can't get any tickets today, my girlfriend will beat me! Man, she has been looking forward to this movie for months. Is there really no ticket left for the first session?"
Spreading his hands, the middle-aged clerk said, "Young man, I can relate to you, but there are no tickets left. All sold out."
Gnashing his teeth, the white high school student said, "Oh, hell. She said she must watch it today. Give me two tickets for the second session, then!"
The box-office clerk was kind of gloating. Smiling, he said, "I'm sorry, but there are no tickets left for the second session, either."
Opening his eyes wide, the high school student screamed, "What?!"
The students behind him all screamed, "Oh, hell! I came over as soon as school was over. There are no more tickets left?!"
"Oh, my God. Can't you open one more screening room to show it? My girlfriend also said she wanted to watch it today!"
"A piece of advice for you. Wait a few days and then come to watch it." The box-office clerk shrugged his shoulders. The students yelled, "We can't wait anymore!" Smiling, the clerk answered them, "But there are no tickets left for today. If you want to watch it tomorrow, come back at midnight. Tickets will be surely available then."
That white high school student said in anger, "I won't leave then. Tomorrow is a holiday. We don't need to go to school anyways." He turned around to walk to the chairs in the hall. He said to himself, "I have to get the tickets. I don't want a breakup…" So, he stayed in the ticket hall. His girlfriend chewed him out on the phone. Then, in the evening, when he saw those who had bought all of those tickets walking into the cinema with their girlfriends, he really hated their guts.
However, in the whole of North America, he was not the only person who stayed in the cinema until midnight. This day, large amounts of students went back home pretty late because of High School Musical, either for watching it or for snatching tickets for the next day. That being said, they all left the cinema smiling. Those who had watched the movie were smiling because they had watched a good movie, while those who had stayed for the tickets also got what they wanted.
High School Musical's box office gross on the 14th did not disappoint the cinemas. Neither did it disappoint Flames Films. On average, each of the 3,150 cinemas had 500 seats. Shown in two sessions every night, High School Musical gained an attendance rate of 100% in the first session of the 14th, which was incredibly high. And the attendance rate of the second session reached 93%, which was also satisfying. With these two sessions, the movie pulled in $19,758,300 at the box office! This figure explained everything. This movie was a super sell. It was a sultry trend.
On the 15th, the attendance rate of the first session was still 100%, while in the second session, it dropped to 75%. The attendance rate kept dropping in the next few days. Especially after the release of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace on the 19th, there was a drastic drop for the attendance rate. Despite that, it was fair to say that High School Musical had swept over North America this week. It pulled in $68,521,500 in all at the box office, nabbing the first spot of the North American weekly box office from May 14th to 20th. It beat Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace in the latter's first week!
Certainly, Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, the winner of the second place, had only been on for two days, and it pulled in $40,840,200 at the box office in only two days. Such a failure at the North American weekly box office did not seem to count at all. However, many Star Wars fans felt extremely angry. After all, this was one of the Star Wars series! A blockbuster with a production cost of $115,000,000 was beaten by a senseless teen musical. What the hell?!
Some gossipy media certainly would not let this topic go. Entertainment Daily even made it a headline: The Competition between Two USC Directors, Wang Yang Beat His Senior, George Lucas! The title was sensational. They mentioned High School Musical's first spot at the weekly box office and Star Wars: Episode I's second spot in the review. At the end of the review, they commented this way, "Facing fifty-five-year-old George Lucas, nineteen-year-old Wang Yang shocked the world. Why shouldn't we compliment this magic guy? Go and conquer the world, young man!"
Sensational media were not just a few, but more media reported the craze for singing and dancing in the movie industry in a serious manner. "Magic Yang Did Magic Again, Breaking All Doubts!""A Promising New Super Star!" Such titles were innumerable. No media organization would jump out to strike a discordant note in such a moment. Even tabloids were paying compliments to him, not daring going against the trend. If it were other movies, they would have said something contrary to the mainstream to draw some attention, but they could not do so with High School Musical. If they tried to sling mud at High School Musical, countless young people would be offended, and young people were the best gossip lovers—and were whom those tabloids spoke to.
Los Angeles Times published another review under the title "The Young's Counterattack, the Musical's Revival!" This time, with the backup of the box office figure, they stopped being reserved. They complimented, "When that young director, at the age of eighteen, had declared his first camera movie would be a teen musical, everyone was dampening his spirits, predicting it would be a super terrible movie. However, we have seen it now. It was a wonderful counterattack. This young director, nineteen and three months, renewed the definition of 'teen musical'. He introduced the musical genre to the young generation. He even enriched filmmakers' knowledge regarding what a popular musical should involve. The box office figure for High School Musical gave us a sound reason to believe the musical would have a revival in every sense!"
The media were all writing about Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace and High School Musical. The Mummy, in its second week, met its Waterloo compared to last week. Despite third place, it only pulled in $18,136,000 at the box office. It was worse for Entrapment, The Matrix in its seventh week, and other movies. The market was all carved up by the two movies in the first and the second place. Idle Hands? No one was paying it any attention anymore. It was already in the dumpster. It only grossed $174,000 at the box office.
However, not all voices were complimentary. There was one group that was especially unhappy with Wang Yang, and that group was called the parents. In the evening news of NBC, a rich, middle-aged white woman said to the camera in anger, "I hate Wang Yang. Last year, my daughter did not go back home the whole night because of his movie. And now he made my daughter skip classes! Skipping classes! Oh, my God. Is High School Musical supposed to teach students how to skip classes? My daughter will graduate from high school at the end of the month, and she needs to prepare for the final exam. But now she skipped classes to watch High School Musical earlier! My daughter needs credits. Apparently, that movie won't give her any. However, Wang Yang has made lots of money with those tricks, at the cost of my daughter's credits!"
The evening news aimed to discuss one topic induced by High School Musical—what the teenagers exactly needed. An educator accepted NBC's interview. He said, "In fact, High School Musical has fully disclosed the teenagers' needs. They want to show who they are, free their minds, and pursue the dreams they truly love… in real life, parents' expectations and stressed school life have given them too many pressures. They just need to enjoy their youth more." He also pointed out that high school seniors were extremely stressed because of the upcoming graduation, and watching High School Musical became their way to relieve the stress.
A report provided strong backing for the educator's opinion. Natalie Portman, the actress who'd starred in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace and also a high school senior that was facing graduation, was photographed watching High School Musical in the cinema by a journalist from the tabloid Entertainment Daily. She'd almost refused to attend the premiere of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace because she had to prepare for the final exam. Although she showed up in the end, she attended none of the other promotional events for the movie. However, she had the time to watch High School Musical?!
Caught by the journalist outside of the cinema, Natalie looked awkward, but she managed to speak in a calm tone. "I just felt I needed to know something about this film because all of my classmates are talking about it. I wanted to figure out why they liked it so much."
Then, the journalist asked her, "So, you already watched High School Musical. How do you like it?"
It seemed Natalie did not want to drop too many comments. She simply said, "It is an excellent movie."
However, the journalist did not give up. He asked another question, "What do you think about Wang Yang?"
Natalie did not stop walking, but she answered him, "Wang Yang is a very talented director."
The journalist asked again, "So, do you like him… his movies?" Natalie said with a slight nod, "Yeah, kind of."
Such a simple conversation was exaggerated into a seemingly true scandal by the tabloid. "Natalie Thinks Wang Yang Attractive!" The report did not make up what Natalie had said, but they spiced it up. "When our reporter asked 'what do you think about Wang Yang', Natalie seemed very shy. She looked like she was going to give away her heart. She said 'Wang Yang is a brilliant, very talented director.' When our reporter asked her 'do you like him or his movies?', Natalie, a flusher whenever topics about boyfriends are brought up, flushed again. She told us 'yeah, kind of'."
"Might this be a romantic love confession Natalie was sending to Yang? Or, could Natalie and Yang already be together? Think about it. We know Yang spent some time in New York when he was casting for High School Musical. He and Natalie might have been together since then."
A ridiculous report, but with this report and a picture of smiling Natalie, the new issue of Entertainment Daily was almost sold out as soon as it came out. The leading actress of Star Wars: Episode 1 and the director of High School Musical—as both movies became a trend, this news certainly drew the attention of the young people, who loved gossips! It was a sure win.
Wang Yang had no idea about that at all. He did not read any tabloids. This day, he got up early just as usual to do some boxing and other physical exercises. When he was heavily sweating, he suddenly got a phone call. It was from a man who alleged himself a reporter from Entertainment Daily. He asked Wang Yang on the phone, "Yang, are you and Natalie Portman in love?"
Wang Yang, still wondering how this reporter had gotten the number of his home, was struck dumb. He involuntarily burst out laughing. He said, "Me and Natalie Portman in love? No way. There is no such thing. That's absurd. I've only seen her on the big screen. Her acting performance in Léon: The Professional is fantastic."
Wang Yang learned about this absurd rumor on the internet after the call. Then, he was afraid that he had spoken too much on the phone.
The next day, what he was afraid of became true. Entertainment Daily reported this way, "The Response to the Sent Love Confession: Natalie is Fantastic!" Wang Yang's remark was spiced up again in the report. "When our reporter asked Yang whether they were in a relationship, Yang denied it at first, but then he expressed his appreciation and admiration for Natalie right away. He told us, 'I really like her. I've loved her acting performance since Léon: The Professional. She is fantastic!'"
"We have reason to believe that Natalie is Magic Yang's goddess! Magic Yang took fancy to this girl as early as 1994. Maybe his wall was covered with the posters of Léon: The Professional back then. Maybe his dream of being a director started because of this girl. Natalie, Yang responded to you. Will you say 'yes'?"
The report sounded as if everything in it was true. Despite knowing that tabloids liked to talk nonsense, many of Wang Yang's female fans dropped comments on the official website of High School Musical to express their disappointment. "Yang, you shouldn't be with Natalie. She is ugly and short. She doesn't deserve you at all!" Some female fans even threatened that if he and Natalie became a couple, they would not be his fan anymore.
Seeing more and more people believe the rumor, Wang Yang was speechless, but he could not help but laugh as well, because he did have a poster of Léon: The Professional in his room. However, he had never met Natalie Portman in person. It was really absurd that a rumor about them was spreading. He had to thumb up at the marketing of the tabloid, but he was not going to respond to it anymore. No matter what he said, it would only make the whole thing worse.
"Jessica, have you read about my scandal?" in the routine phone call they had every night, Wang Yang asked Jessica in a pretended serious manner.
On the other end of the line, Jessica giggled. She said, "I think, yes. You and Natalie Portman?"
Wang Yang laughed too. He said into the phone, "Yeah. Could anyone tell me what happened? Love confession sent by Natalie? Oh, my God!"
Jessica laughed for some seconds. Then, she suddenly said quietly, "Yang, we haven't been dating for a long time. I miss you so much."
"Me, too." Wang Yang said gently, "Jessica, let's wait a few more days. You know that the original soundtrack of High School Musical will be released next week. Once it's released, the market for the movie will be secured. We can go out dating every day by then. No more worries about paparazzi. If they want to take photos of us, then they can just take."
Jessica said with a smile, "Yeah, I know."
As early as the phase in which High School Musical was only shown in school cinemas, Flames Films had contacted several record companies, and they signed a contract with a small company, in the end, to authorize them to distribute the original soundtrack of High School Musical in North America.
A film financial valuer working from Wall Street made some predictions based on the current market. He estimated High School Musical would probably break $300,000,000 at the box office worldwide. That, plus the revenues from peripheral operations, like the original soundtrack and DVD, would eventually bring Flames Films at least $100,000,000 in profits after tax. Wang Yang would become a billionaire—the youngest billionaire.
Soon, this valuer's estimation was further confirmed. When the curtains came down on the week of May 21st to 27th, High School Musical pulled in $47,383,600 more at the box office, getting the total box office gross over the line for $100,000,000. The exact number was $129,100,000! In the same season of past years, pulling in over $47,000,000 at the box office in one week would secure the movie's top spot, but at the moment, it was only in the second place. The first place surely went to Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, which pulled in $99,354,400 at the box office this week, nabbing the weekly championship overwhelmingly.
However, Flames Films had their reason to feel proud, because the production cost of High School Musical was $8,000,000, while that of Star Wars: Episode I was $11,500,000.
In this period, most teenage moviegoers would go to watch High School Musical, while others would watch Star Wars: Episode I. Consequently, other movies shown in the cinema were greatly affected. The Mummy only grossed $10,482,000 million at the box office this week. Idle Hands was certainly not among the affected movies, because it had been off the big screen.
In the new week, High School Musical's original soundtrack was released to the North American market as well. It released 100,000 copies in the first phase. Each record customer would get a poster at random for free. Every poster had a leading role's signature or Wang Yang's signature on it. Only the first 100,000 copies had this bonus! This news had been announced on the official website. Numerous students had rolled up their sleeves. As soon as the 100,000 CDs were put onto the shelves, the students snapped up all of them. They were sold out across the country in one day!
Those who did not get the CD stayed at record stores, frustrated. They were reluctant to leave. A girl about 12-years old burst into tears. She had wanted the signatures so much. However, she had arrived too late and there was nothing left.
"Phenomenal director" was the newest title Wang Yang had received. It was from Roger Ebert. The famous movie critic who had spoken highly of Paranormal Activity was lavish with his praise for High School Musical as well.
"Magic Yang created another miracle. He drove the young people crazy once again! Lately, my little girl is always telling me, "Oh daddy, I want to take dance classes. That High School Musical is amazing." With my age, I wouldn't have been interested in any teen musical, but I went to watch the movie because of my little girl's recommendation. I felt so warm. It was like sunbathing. The dark shade brought by Paranormal Activity was driven away. I have to say that, Magic Yang, this nineteen-year-old young man—he is a phenomenal director!"
In the end, Roger Ebert gave High School Musical two thumbs-up.
The description "phenomenal director" was quoted by many media organizations. It seemed a little funny that a nineteen-year-old director was called phenomenal, but the fact is the fact. He turned Paranormal Activity into a miracle in 1998 by pulling in $300,000,000 at the box office worldwide with a production cost of only $10,000. He shocked the whole world and showed people what viral marketing was. In half a year, he created this fever for singing and dancing. All young people were crazy about his movie. Who could say he was not phenomenal? If anyone had the nerve to say that, this person would be cursed by many of Wang Yang's female fans.
As High School Musical succeeded, Wang Yang had more and more fans. There were quite a few crazy female fans. And some of his fans built a website to collect his pictures and information. However, be it a phenomenal director or the youngest billionaire, he had become a role model and an idol for many, many of his peers.


Wang Yang never stopped pursuing his dream of becoming a director and making movies that could amaze the world. However, the fate seemed to play a malicious joke on him. He got wrongly accused and expelled from USC. Fortunately, when God closed a door to Wang Yang, he opened a window for him. After a baby stroller hit him on the street, he began to be able to watch the movies from the future in his head! 
Since then, the year of 1988 was destined to be an extraordinary year. Besides the miracle written by “Titanic”, one of the most legendary directors in the 21st century was rising quietly… 

Remy stumbles through another day of classes, this one harder considering some actual work is getting done. The only notable thing that happened is that Emmitt sat next to him in history class that day, which he was very grateful for. With such an outgoing personality, he expected him to have at least five other friends to sit with in this class alone.
As class let out, Emmitt let him know that they'd all be hanging out in Renee's dorm later that day, then gave him his number.
When he showed up, Renee was the only person there.
"Oh, sorry. Did I come too early?" Remy asked sheepishly.
Renee looked as cheerful as ever as she exclaimed, "No way! Emmitt and Landon just went out to get some beer. Landon's cousin is over 21, so he hooks us up."
"Oh, that's cool." He walked further in and sat stiffly on one of the beds, nervous as he had never been around Renee alone before.
Renee came over and sat next to him, "So, tell me about yourself."
"Uh, I've lived in Wisconsin all my life. Or at least, I used to."
"Wow, small world. I came here from Wisconsin, too! What made you choose this place?"
Remy remembered Landon's plea for him not to let Renee know who he was, even though things are probably different now after last night. "I... I just always loved New York City, I guess. And I wanted a college education. What about you?" Remy knew the reason why they left, but not exactly why they chose this place.
"Yeah, I guess I left for that reason, too. Also, the town I lived in was too small. Everyone knew each other, and I just wanted to meet new people."
At that moment, Landon and Emmitt walk in lugging lumpy backpacks. They unzip them and fling cases of beer onto the bed.
Suddenly thinking of something, Remy asks, "Wait, what about your roommate? Where's she?"
Landon answered for her, "She doesn't have one. Her parents paid extra for that. Renee prefers her personal space."
Remy then noticed a measly white sheet placed lazily on the bed and no other possessions on that side of the room. "Ah. So, then, what do you guys usually do here?"
Emmitt answered, "Drink, talk, play cards. That kind of stuff."
They each grabbed a beer, and Landon and Renee moved to sit on the other bed as Emmitt sat next to Remy.
"So how were your days?" Landon over-affectionately asked. "I expect each of you to tell me three interesting things that happened."
Renee went first, "Well, Mom. My day was great. Because I don't have any classes with my boyfriend, I get a break from him all day! How awesome is that?"
Landon considered her answer, "Hmm... Hurtful. Anyone else wanna go?"
"Oh, Landon! I forgot to tell you that your cousin gave me a DVD player that we can watch movies on." Emmitt went over to one of the backpacks and dug through it, pulling out one with a screen that was only slightly wider than a DVD disc itself.
Landon stared at it, "Okay, first of all, what are you doing privately speaking with my cousin, and why is he giving you things? Second of all, how is anyone going to be able to watch anything on that thing? And last, but not least, does anyone even have any movies with them?"
"That was way too many questions," Emmitt complained.
"Well, will you at least answer one of them?"
"Oh. Sure thing."
"Well?"
"I answered your question! You asked me to answer one, and my answer was 'okay.'"
Landon tried his best to look unamused as he calmly said, "I am going to strangle you."
"Wow, and you have a girlfriend, Landon! If you have any weird kinks, you should probably discuss them with her."
"You big bitch," was Landon's comeback, but he had a huge grin on his face as he held back a laugh.
After Emmitt got over a fit of giggles, he said, "Okay, but seriously, it's at least bigger than a phone."
Renee said, "Yeah, but you can only watch movies on it. And you have to have a physical copy of one."
Landon broke in, "Hey, can we get back to discussing what your relationship to my cousin is?"
Ignoring him, Emmitt said, "That's a good point, but you haven't heard what movie Step gave me to go with the DVD player."
Emmitt stopped speaking again, waiting for someone to ask what the movie was.
"Oh, my god, Emmitt," Renee said, exasperated. Just say it or I swear I will smash your stupid DVD player right now."
"Geez. Okay. The movie we have issssss... drumroll please..." Renee made a step towards the player. "It's the Star Wars Holiday Special!"
Landon was the first to speak, "Um, excuse me, what? What even is that?"
"It's Star Wars!" Emmitt cried.
"We are aware of what Star Wars is, but what is this movie?"
"Actually, I'm not really sure. But it's Star Wars. So it'll probably be good."
About 20 minutes into the movie, Emmit said, "This is the worst thing I have ever seen. It's just wookies that aren't Chewie watching TV. What the fuck?"
Landon said, "Well, while we're waiting for this trash bag of a movie to end, why don't we get back to the question about Step?"
"Well. We actually happen to be good friends... More than friends."
Landon grabbed Emmitt's shoulders in alarm, "You're fucking my cousin and you didn't tell me?! What the fuck?"
Emmitt looked him in the eyes calmly. "Yes, that is correct."
Remy looked at him, "You're gay?"
"Oh, damn it. Did I not make it clear enough?" He winks. "But also, I'm actually pansexual."
"Hmm. That's cool," he said nonchalantly.
"Yeah, that's actually why I created the Acceptance Society, which has been renamed due to constant mocking. I came out in 11th grade, and most people weren't too... let's say pleased about it. And I wanted things to be different in college. Being queer and a person of color isn't the easiest thing to live with, and I didn't want anyone else to feel like I felt."
Remy forgot a lot of the time how privileged he was. Being a straight white man meant that he didn't have to be afraid of being the victim of someone's unwarranted rage. He didn't have to live fearing what other people saw him as. "Damn. That's really sweet," Remy said, then after a second added, "Sorry if that sounded stupid. I don't react appropriately to serious, heartfelt conversations."
"Better than reacting negatively," he commented, turning back to the movie.
Remy had hoped to talk to Landon a little more, but after the movie, Landon said he was going to stay with Renee for a while, so Emmitt and Remy headed back to their separate dorms.
Every day after, their group would do something similar to that, just hanging out and relaxing after a day of classes, or sometimes they'd help each other with homework.
Eventually, more people came to Emmitt's club. Emmitt insisted it was because everyone suddenly realized how cool he was, though it was almost certainly because of the name change.
Remy never got the chance to ask Landon more about what happened. He got the sense that he wasn't ready to go into detail like he had that first night, so he didn't ask.
As the Halloween season rolled around, Remy was feeling very close to these people, closer than he had ever been to anyone. It was strange, and he liked it.

At a festival, 18-year-old Remy overhears a very private conversation. He listens as two people talk about killing another person. He is compelled to follow them and witnesses as a boy about his age murders another teenager. But was this taking of another's life justified? Remy soon finds that he is unable to separate himself from these people and must get closer to this boy in order to find out what brought him into a situation where he needed to kill someone.

Warning: There are mentions of sexual assault throughout this book. The actual act is not explicitly described, but if you are sensitive to that kind of thing, you might want to skip this book.

Early morning mid-February, a family of three having their Sunday's breakfast of breads, eggs, and bacons.

Their daughter suddenly stop eating and ran to living room, turning on the TV. Her mother screamed at her, "Sweetie, finish your breakfast first before watching TV!!"

"Just give me a minute mom! Al's new film trailer will be shown this morning, I will finish my breakfast, I promise." She beg her mother.

"Just let her Honey, trailer is only a minute or two. She really crazy about this boy, Al." Her father said.

"But .... Hah, okay then." Her parents also got curious and watch the trailer with her.

Trailer starts with a mother and son riding car and see an accident happen in their way, then the boy said that there is a girl hurt, but when his mother ask where is she, he said she is standing next to his window and this made his mother shocked.

The trailer continues until one of the words that shock the entire audience and Alphonse's fans.

"I see dead people." He whispered.

Trailer continue again and show that this is really a horror film and will be in theatre in early August.

A horror movie!? Al is playing a horror movie? Director Robert Zemickis who is that? But it's produced by Spielberg so they believe this film's quality must be good.

"Dad² please, can I watch it, I want to watch Al's film, he is my favorite movie star and I'm his number one fans! I won't miss every film and books Al has done!"

Her father unsure, "I don't know sweetie, this is horror film, I'm afraid you'll have a nightmare."

"Please daddy, this is Al who wrote <Toy Story> that you like, and also look at the ratings! It's PG so its okay for me to watch it." She fake a tears.

Her parents just look at each other and finally agree, "Okay sweetie, we agree but this time you must finish your breakfast first and start to clean your room, then we have a deal."

"Thank you (5x) daddy mommy, I promise I will do every chores you assigned to me!" She became happy and quickly finish her breakfast.

This also occur to every household who had a kids. Al's name has been known to every parents and child in whole world.

The last scandal of Jodie and Al also encounter backlash from every parents, children and Parents and Child Association.

Luckily, this time is not Jodie Foster's misfortune. "Hollywood Stars" tabloid who was making a notorious news received a severe backlash from them and forced to apologized to public and banned to make reports of Al for at least until he turned 18.

Who told them to frame the idol of parents and children across the States. Now gossip tabloids and newspaper are cautious when they make reports about Al.

Well, Al also had his interference with this. He hire a few team of lawyer from James Norman in secret to help Parents and Children Association in this lawsuit.

Who told them to disturb his crus ... friend, Al's best friends. He always kind to his friends and strangers but if anyone disturb him and his friend, he won't show any mercy.

Al got invited for Golden Globe and Academy Awards this year.

Al and Drew got the honor to represent an opening speech that they will read in the Golden Globe Awards.

When they appear in stage, everyone clap their hands.

"The voting procedures by Alphonse Brandt and Drew Barrymore" Al said.

Drew then take turns to read, "Once upon a time there is this a beautiful place called hollywood foreyn..."

"Foreign Drew" He corrected, then the audience fell into laughter.

Drew retort, "I KNOW! The Hollywood Foreign Press where lived a group of voting counters called Arthur young&co."

Then Al speak again,"They have this voting meter like A GAME MACHINE!?" He said surprisingly, the audience also confused at his outburst.

"Drew, did you took my report last night and change it?" This confuse Drew, and she realized that he wants to deviate from their script, then she smiles.

Luckily drew is quick thinker and said "No! maybe ET change it?" She said unsurely, another laughter heard.

"No, I know this is definetly your signature, look written by Drew Barrymore!"

"Upsie?" She said cutely

They began to banter and telling their funny and bad habits, the audience just laugh and amused at their cute action.

Until drew drop the atomic bomb.

"And you said you want to marry big sis Jodie in the future!" That made audience cheered loudly and give them standing applause

He facepalm and said, "Drew, thats supposed to be our secret!! Um apologized ladies and gentlemen she just joking hehe."

He quickly change the topic and directly read the last page of their reports and quickly say farewell and the audience broke into cheers again.

Both of them totally steal the show tonight, the Golden Globe Comitee who in panic because this two are not following the script was glad now.

the Golden Globe award went successfully and <E.T.> swept technical and best film drama awards.

He also attend 55th Academy Awards and Drew come with her pink dress and fuzzy scarf that made her look cuter.

Academy awards also went well, <E.T.> swept through technical award again but lost the Best Film award to <Gandhi>.

He bet $100 that American in 80s didn't even knew who Gandhi was. Why they win most of the awards only academy judges know, or maybe he underestimate American knowledge of other countries in 80s.

"Oh you are getting taller again Al" Mrs K said while meassuring him "155 cm, wow I believe you can reach 180 cm when you are 17."

Al was having another birthday party. He was 13 this year and next year, he will enter public High School. This time, he doesn't invite many people and just having a small scale party.

His friends also can't come today so he celebrate it with orphanage tenants.

Today they also decided to celebrate it by watching new <Star Wars> films and said that this will be ending of this trilogy.

He got premiere invitation from George Lucas and of course he went there. As usual, he met the four legendary director and also meet with Robert.

He said the film is complete and there will be a trial screening for fans and film critics in early July. Of course he needs to attend this, this is his second film and he was sure to be able to make another explosion.

But now he needs to accompany his siblings to watch this movies. They also wear the <Star Wars> costume when watching this.

Al wore Chewbacca mask, Toby as Han Solo, Jon as Luke and Laura, Melissa and Annie as Leia.

Alice also come but she doesn't wear any costume.

They go to some cinema in Beverly Hills because its not too crowded like in Hollywood area.

After they watched <Star Wars> both boys and girls are excitedly talking about that film.

Al excuse himself to toilet, and when he finish his business, he bump into someone who also wears a Princess Leia costume and accidentaly fall, grabbing Al's Chewbacca mask.

Al quickly helps the girl who at least 10 years old to stand and apologize to her.

The girl also realize that she was in wrong, then she also apologize to whoever she bump with.

"I'm sorry for bumping into you. Is this your mask (gasp) Al? Are you Alphonse Brandt? I'm your biggest fans, my name is Leslie."

"Oh! Nice to meet you there Leslie, thanks for your support." He smiled, "I've never encounter a fans in public like this, well mostly because I'm going incognito."

Leslie first stunned that her idol is talking to her but also made confused by him, "Inco what? Oh that's rude of me! I am sorry its just ah mm..." She speaks hastly and stutterly.

Al becomes more amuse and explain it to her, "Incognito, means undetected or unknown in latin. Just relax when speak to me, I think I'm the same age as you."

Leslie took a deep breath and said, "I'm sorry Mr Alphonse, its my first time seeing celebrity up close haha." She laugh nervously, "Wow latin words, you are really smart, thats why you can write a lot of good stories like <Toy Story>." Then she smiled sweetly.

"Call me Al, but keep it a secret. Last time I went public like this, I was chased by many paparazzi. "He whispered to her.

She felt his face close to her and a warm breath through her ears, her face become redden and her brain become short-circuit.

Fortunately, she was saved by a call from her parents. "Leslie, come on, let's go home!" his father said.

She stare at Al again and muster her courage, "Al, can you sign this for me? I'm sorry I didn't bring any paper or notes with me." She show her napkins and her eyes keep staring to the ground.

Al smiled and take out his own pen, "With my pleasure, so what is your full name?"

"Mann, Leslie Mann, thats my name." She said happily.

"To my first fan I ever met, Leslie Mann. May you always healthy and brings out happiness to everyone around you, Alphonse "Al" Brandt. Here you are."

She stared at her napkins with her mouth wide open. She thinks that today is the best day of her life and won't ever forget this moment.

But a call from her parents awoke her, she said goodbye to Al reluctanly and kiss his cheek.

Al never reject a kiss, well never reject from a beautiful girl anyway, who doesn't? Call him a simp but at least he gets a kiss.

Al went back with his siblings after that they eat some big nice delicious and tasty Cheese Burgers in American restaurant (Macca), today is an exception to eat fast food.

A/N:I think broken people smile the most brightest.

I was dragging Harry with me to god knows where while cursing when we suddenly hit someone.
"Ouch" I said, while the other figure hit the floor.
The figure looked Haggard and weak though he picked himself up.
The figure was Professor Lupin.
Lupin eyed all of us and then asked.
"Harry, Blake and the others what are you all doing out of curfew.?"Remus asked weakly.
Harry and the others were out of words to speak.
"I was teaching them Expecto Patronus sir," I spoke up.
"Harry needed help with the spell, considering how Dementors seem to like him."
"Hmm, i see that's not very Syltherin of you, Blake" said Lupin with a smile, "but why were you running around shouting in the corridors?"
"Umm, Sir I don't know whether you will understand it or not but Harry has never seen Star Wars." I said a bit red faced.
"What? Harry hasn't seen Star Wars? I thought he lived with his muggle relatives?? how can they not show him?".Lupin said shocked.
"Finally someone who understand." I declared.
"You have watched Star Wars, professor?" Harry asked.
"Yes, yes, a friend of mine" Lupin said while clearly reminiscence old days, "made us watch it a long ago." then Lupin face was hit with sadness.
"Yeah, so i need to find a way to get him to watch Star Wars, but no muggle invention work here in Hogwarts so i am thinking of just taking him back Home with me right now."I said.
"As amusing as that would be Blake, i don't think you can do it right now, maybe over the Hogsmeade Weekend, Harry and you can come along with me so that we can introduce Harry to Star Wars." Lupin said with a forced smile.
" I would certainly like that Professor." I said beaming, "but are you okay Professor? you don't look so good?" I asked.
"Oh, i am fine, i just have caught a flu, i will be fine in a few days." said Lupin.
"And maybe then I you can allow me to join in these sessions of your. I am not that good but i am pretty sure i can help." Lupin offered.
"Sure Professor, we will like that." I said.
"Now i think you all should go back to your dorms before you get caught by some teacher you might deduct points from you." Lupin said.
"And you won't Professor?" I asked.
"Well i certainly can't take points from students who are helping each other, now can I?" Lupin said.
"Thanks, Professor, but do you need help? maybe i can come and leave you back at your lodgings?" I offered.
"NO, Blake I will be fine, though thank you." Said Lupin.
"Well lets go guys, and Harry you and I are gonna watch Star Wars someday." I said while taking Millicent and Notts with me leaving behind Harry, Ron and Lupin.

{NEXT DAY DADA CLASS}
Lupin was late to the class.
"I hope he is fine, he wasn't looking good the previous night." said Notts.
"Yes, he is one of the only few competent Professors that we have." Millicent added.
Suddenly Snape Barged in the room.
"Open your books to Pg 394." he declared.
"but sire we still haven't reached there." Hermoine declared.
"I am taking the Class Ms. Granger and i will be teaching whatever I want. 5points from Gryffindors for lacking proper etiquette"Snape declared.
I raised my hand,
"Yes, Mr.Rivers," Snape said.
"Is Professor Lupin fine?" I asked.
"He has just fallen sick, he will be fine in a few days. And 5 points to Slytherins for proper manners, something some other people can learn." Snape said and then went on to continue with his lesson.
Halfway through the lesson it struck me, LUPIN IS THE WEREWOLF. SHit!
I remember seeing the Werewolf in Prisoner of Azkaban Trailer, it was full moon night the day before yesterday, Lupin was coming back after suffering with his transformation.
But why is Snape leaking out his secret so openly, i am sure that it is difficult to link it back to Lupin but any sane mind which can add up events will eventually figure out that Lupin is a werewolf.
After class I immediately left for Lupin's lodging, ignoring Notts and Millicent who kept asking me where i was going.

Knocking on his door.
"Professor, its Blake are you there?"
"Uh, Blake, come on it, coming to discuss our next class plan?" Lupin asked amused.
"no, Professor, i just wanted to come and ask how are you?" 
"I have seen better days certainly, and i will be fine in a few days. Thanks for your concern."Lupin said smiling.
" Professor.., I don't know how should i say this but i think i know that you are a werewolf." I said.
An awkward silence prevailed in the room.
Them with a heavy sigh Lupin finaly spoke.
"You are right Mr. Rivers, i knew that you were smart, though may i asked how you figured it out?" Lupin asked
"Professor Snake took class on Lycanthropy today, including the fact that you incidentally fell sick the very day after a full moon and Professor Snape's choice of topic made me add it all up." I said.
"Well I certainly should get packing now." Lupin said sadly.
"Why? I mean i am not telling anyone, and what people know won't harm them. And personally you are my favorite DADA professor." I said.
"Well thank you Blake" Lupin said with comfort coming on his face.
"So where do you get Wolf's bane from? I mean that's the only thing effective against Lycanthropy." I asked.
"Professor Snape may not like me much because of our past differences but he does brew it for me." Lupin answered
"Well maybe i can ask him to teach me that, I am already good at potions so i may pick it up quick. And then you wouldn't have to owe him any favours." 
"That's very polite of you Blake but i don't see the need of it." Lupin said.
"By the way Professor the friend who showed you Stars Wars was he a Muggle?" I asked.
"She was a muggle yes, one of the smartest witch i ever knew." Lupin said.

I spent the next hour with Lupin discussing about Lycanthropy and preparation of our class.

A/N:I will insert 21st century and music in the story, so dont complain that the song was not even out then or that reference doesn't make sense. The purebloods would never have understood muggle references anyway.

Yeah so, showing her those videos may have not been a good idea. She got so enthralled in them that she wanted more. I only showed her youtube videos, and that got her addicted. First was star wars. After about four videos she was confused because some were out of order. The thing is after she saw the different planets and aliens, she stopped me and demanded to see the full movie. There was alot of movies but I wasn't going to correct her. She looked scary. I had survived by going onto sites I remember from my last life like go movies or 123movies and played the first star wars. I mean the movies were out already but its easier to just watch it on my phone. She didn't seem satisfied with only one movie though, so for half day we watched star war, empire strikes back, and return of the jedi. Mom wanted to get into the phantom menace but I said we should limit ourselves. Another reason is because I planned to start training about a week ago. But then I got caught.

Anyway I was in the clear now that mom knew so I could train freely, well except magic. Though I am suprised by my talent. My wish was for high talent but not enough to immediately get noticed, but a while ago she said that what I did would normally take years. I guess I can have huge talent in magic and not be noticed at the same time.

Back on track I started my training. I'm not going to go day by day reports, so I will just tell general information for three years.

The first month started with just a normal work out. Push ups, sit ups, squats, that kind of stuff. I also found out that wizards heal from exercise fast because of magic. But that doen't mean they actually exercise. They're still lazy. 

After that month I began training in the lightsaber forms. I used a stick for a lightsaber because I don't trust myself. I also wonder why in most star wars fanfics they dont train the forms without a lightsaber even if they know them. Is it like less effective? If so, it's not that way for me.

Form 1 or shii- cho I , don't want to say mastered, but learned quickly. It mainly focused on defense. Though Im gonna have to test if it works on spell. Their basically both energy, it's just one is magic and the other is kyber crystal energy.

Form 2 or makashi also learned quick. It was mostly foot work and disarming the opponent without killing.

Form 3 or soresu was a little harder. This form is for defending against blaster shots, but guess what, there are no blasters. I still haven't tested if a lightsaber can defend against magic spells. I haven't even called them out of the sub space. Still dont trust myself. I'd rather wait than lose a hand with no. robot hand waiting to replace it. I had to get help from mom as she through rocks at me unenthusiasticly. For some reason, this also kinda helped my observation haki.

Form 4 or ataru I couldn't do because it required the force. I can use magic as a substitute but I have to wait till I'm 10. I really wanted to do some flips with my magic acting like Qui-Gon or Yoda. Also another interesting tid bit is that only magic folk from asia practice using magic on their bodies. apparently it feels uncomfortable and the rest of the world, mainly england, dont use magic on their bodies. I wondered to myself how a country of pussy like wizards has a school labeled best in the world.

Form 5 or shien & djem so was similar to form 3. I couldn't really practice the shien part cause physics. Shien is meant for that cool blaster deflection but since im using rocks they collide with my stick and dont go far. I did practice the Djem so part but thats pretty much useless in the 1980's. No one caries swords, much less lightsabers. I only practice this because it helps me focus and avoid accidents.

Form 6 or niman was just a combination of all the forms, which is kinda bad because I can't start practicing this if I haven't practiced form 4.

Form 7 or juyo (also vaapad) is a more aggressive fighting style. Also cant practice this because it requires the force. Im also a little hesitant, because the only on who used this form successfully was mace windu.

All the lightsaber form practice took me about 2 years. I don't have to worry about going to school because I'm already proficient in reading, writing, and math. I still need to learn cursive though. It is kinda sad most wizard kids don't go to school. so their knowledge is trash when going to Hogwarts. Not a problem for me though.

The last year I spent going over what I learned and a little bit of observation haki. Honestly I barely have knowledge on this. I didn't ask for techniques in training this and just ask for the ability. I also never got into one piece. Too many episodes. I could start watching it now but I don't feel like it. On the subject of haki, I could probably use armament haki since observation haki is available to me. I doubt I have conqueror haki though.

Where was I? A yes, observation haki. I've had great progress with this. I can see almost 5 meters away from me with my eye's closed and it only took a year. from what I believe it took luffy 2 years. Than again I never watched it so I may be wrong and would have triggered like a thousand one piece fans if they heard me. (😏)

I did test my night vision. It was amazing. It was like It's daytime. Way better than that lumos spell. Also there was no potions for night vision which I find strange. Why has no one ever though to make it? I did find out there is a weight loss potion called "Dr. Pinguis thinning elixir" which saddened me a little, thinking that I wasted a wish. It costed 3 galleons. This may be quite expensive for others, but I found out that my mom has an inheritance and stock investments with same wizard potion companies. So I could have afforded that easily. I can't believe I wasted a wish.

Another thing I practiced was my cooking skills. When I told my mom about this wish she still didn't want me to cook in the kitchen. So I had to wait until I was 6 to make simple things like pasta and ramen. After my mom tried my cooking, She looked like she was in a dilemma. I knew the food was good. She probably wanted me to cook from now on, but was still concerned about me being in the kitchen. I'm happy that my mom cares, but I need to make mistakes before I can learn from them. We compromised with both of us cooking. Mainly me cooking and her supervising so I don't get hurt.

Any way, It's 1987. I'm 7 years old and finally getting out of the house. It sounds sad that I haven't left the house once since I was born, but it's understandable. My mom is overprotective, maybe a little too much, and the war ended not to long ago. There were still some death eaters roaming around. I was a little worried because I haven't practiced in magic so I can't really defend myself, unless I take the lightsabers out. But mom told me not to saying that she'll protect me. I also remember god saying he would try to ensure my safety until I'm in Hogwarts.

Mom had a special day planned for us since it's my first time out. We won't be going to diagon ally, which I was upset about. She said we would go and by some clothes from muggle stores. She liked muggle things, kinda like a ginger haired father I know. After shoping for clothes we'd go to the theater and watch the new movie " the princess bride." It may be a chick flik, but I like it. I mean come on?

Everyone pretty much knows what rebirth is. A guy gets the opportunity to go to another world. This story is about a chance for rebirth by god. he has wishes and uses them in a very unorthodox way.

*I do not own anything related to the harry potter world or wishes that contain things from other works. I just made up the mc.

*Another note is that I am not a super fan so I will most likely get things wrong.( Basically only watched the movies and limited knowledge of everything.)

Currently I am writing this story for my own amusement and because I believe that there is a lot of potential in star wars as a fan fiction. 

I am in college but will try to keep a steady update schedule as it helps to relieve stress from all of the math and science.

Finn will have been an active and smart kid who has always took to fighting and jokes along side his friends. He learned martial arts, which includes traditional Boxing,  Muy-Thai, karate, and Judo. At a young age he started training and there met his best friends who like him loved to fight but also pull pranks, relax and watch star wars, or other wonderful shows.

Feel free to pick this up. I've been attending a military college and have no way to really work on this.

in 2005, just after the release of star wars: episode 3, our up and coming valadictorian is about to graduate from high school and move on the Stanford with a full ride for Wrestling. Unfortunately, while he is bingewatching all of the previous star wars movies and cartoons after a stressing week of finals he hears and intruder in his home and a loud shriek from his mother...

Peter thought about how the bad guys were building these high-tech alien weapons, and with them out there, he couldn't allow them to be. Listening to the school news broadcast on the TVs in the hallway, thinking about how crazy it was to be famous only with people not realizing it's him. Ned wondered what it was like with Peter thinking it was crazy since no one should know what he could do. Knowing things would be different now with the Avenger's moving somewhere else, he would end up joining them. Since the guy with the wings was still out there, he knew he had to take him down since he didn't want anyone else to get hurt.
"Hey, I'll see you in Spanish Class," Ned said to Peter, who started to head in their class direction.
Peter shook his head, "I can't this with everything going on; I can't stay here."
"Dude, you want to be a high school drops out?" Ned asked, thinking this was a bad idea since he was in trouble for ditching the decathlon.
Peter started to walk away from Ned to one of the exit doors, "I'm way beyond high school right now."
Turning the corner only to see the principal standing there, blocking Peter's way, knowing he was in trouble again.
"Parker, my office," the principal said to Peter, who followed him.
It ended as a result of having detention for trying to ditch school with Peter thinking about how he would get out of this? Sighing roughly, he got up from the desk heading quickly out of the classroom with the coach not caring that much. Though he looked at Michelle, confused about why she was even here right now? 
"What are you doing here since you don't have detention," asked the coach thinking it to be strange.
Michelle nodded, "Yeah I know, but I like to come here to sketch people in crisis."
Holding up her journal with a drawing of the coach, smirking, "See, that's you."
Peter went over to his locker, lifting it, grabbing the wed fluid—then placing it back down—heading out of the school. Going home to talk with Karen about the guys who had been at the robbery the other night—rubbing his forehead. Before noticing Jess walking over to his direction, wondering what she was doing? He had forgotten Jess was working at the video store tonight wondering if she would want some company tonight? Torn between wanting to hang out with his best friend while at the same time needed to stop the wingsuit guy.
"Hey Pete, how are you doing?" asked Jess since she felt like it would be nice to have her friend come with her to study while she was working.
Peter smiled at her, "Good, where have you headed, Jess, and would you like some company?"
"I'm headed to the video store right now, I told you but I guess you accidentally forgot. Though I would like some company, Pete," Jess said smiling at him.
Peter sighed lightly realizing his mistake, smiled back at her softly, "Sorry about that Jessie, there's been a lot on my mind lately. How was the school for you today?"
"School was good today, thanks for asking me, Pete. How was the school for you today, Pete?" asked Jess walking up the street with Peter.
Peter walked with Jess all the way towards the video store where she worked smiling at her while listening to her talking. He enjoyed talking with her thinking this would be an excellent time to ask her to the dance since he probably wouldn't get another chance.
"So...um...Jessie, do you have a date yet to the dance," asked Peter feeling nervous about her rejecting him, to be honest.
Jess stopped short at the entrance to her workplace, "Well I was asked by someone today but I said no to them since they weren't the right dance partner for me. Why are you wanting to take me to the dance, Peter?"
"Well...uh...yeah, I would like it if you would go to the dance with me, Jessie. Though we can go as just friends if you want to make it less awkward," Peter said to her, mentally kicking himself for what he just said at the end.
Jess tilted her head smiling at him, "Yeah, I don't mind honestly, go as friends, Peter. Did you want to hang out with me for a while? I mean, we have the Original Trilogy Star Wars?"
Knowing she just said the magic words since Peter loved the Star Wars movies thinking about how things were going to go. Peter shocked Jess said she would go with him since he had been afraid she would have said no. 
He tried to hide his excitement, "Really? I mean cool -- that's cool -- um -- yeah, I can hang out for a while. I'll try to stay out of the way so I can get your work done."
"Yeah, it is cool, I'm glad you can stay for a while, and you won't be in the way. It's not that difficult of a job, honestly. Come on then," Jess said, smiling at before walking in though holding the door open for Peter.
Following Jess inside, thanking her for holding open the door, kicking himself for not doing it for her. Walking behind the counter, she clocked in and started counting down the drawer, writing it down before she went over putting the movies away. While went to look for the Star Wars movies when he did his eyes lit up like a kid's on Christmas morning. Jess put the film back on the shelves while walking through the aisles sighing lightly when she sat down behind the desk. Peter looked through the other movies thinking this happened to be a cool job. Jess had noticed she started studying.
"I feel at times you're all work and no play," Peter teased her chuckling, "If you want I can study with you, Jess."
Jess looked at him, giggling at what he said to her, "I'm not like it all the time, and you can work on your homework if you want too I don't mind if you want to work on it with me."
Peter sat on the counter, going through his backpack, thinking about how this was something they haven't done it a while. They both just hanging out without anyone else around, knowing he couldn't leave and move away since he didn't want to be away from his friends. Looking over at her smiling since she looked excellent with her reading glasses on just reading, yeah, Peter was crushing on her. He had to figure out some way to tell her how he felt towards her, but Peter thought it would be a good idea to say to her during the dance—working on his homework, noticing how quiet it started to get wondering what to say to her since he felt like a stiff. Sitting here on the counter, not saying anything to her asking her what she planned to do tomorrow besides school?
"Ask her if she wants to hang out after school or not. Don't just sit there staring her down like a creeper. Come on," Peter thought to himself, rubbing his face with both hands.
It's like she was thinking the same thing because she started to talk, "Have you ever seen the Breakfast Club?"
Peter shook his head, "No I haven't seen that movie, Jessie, sorry. Why do you ask?"
"What? Do you mean to tell me you've never seen one of the best 80's movies ever? We're going to watch this movie, though the Back to the Future movie series is just as good," Jess said with her jaw-dropping before getting up from the chair.
She was roaming through the aisles up and down before finding it heading back to the counter looking for the movie. Once she found the disc, they would only cover the film they had out since they didn't keep them in the original covers. Mainly because people could take them without them knowing and didn't want to lose them since it was bad enough when people don't return them. Putting the movie in the DVD player before pushing play would be nice to watch with Peter. Since this would be something different from watching Star Wars movies and others though, she liked him being a nerd since it would be strange otherwise. She was sitting back down in her chair behind the desk, putting her books back into her backpack since she finished her work. Watching the movie, Peter thought the movie was honestly perfect before finishing his homework, thinking this would be nice. 
To work in a place like this honestly though figured things would be even better once he would be apart of the Avengers. Of course, he didn't want to leave his home since it wouldn't right to pack up and leave his friends along with his crush. Watching it, Jess happened to be engaged, though, at the end of the movie, she started to dance to the song playing. Peter smiling at this; Jess went over to Peter, taking his hand in her hand wanting him to dance with her. Peter blushed when she grabbed his hand, figured out she wanted him to dance with her though not a slow one. He didn't have to worry about Jess judging him since it wasn't a big deal, to be honest since she always didn't care. They were goofing off while they were dancing and laughing, thinking this was great with everything going on before Peter ended up leaving in the middle of her shift since he had to head home though he told her to have a good night. 
She told him she would think about everything that happened tonight, knowing Jessica wanted to tell Peter how she felt towards him. It didn't take long before Jess locked the doors to the store with the sign turned to closed for her to work on finishing up stocking the last bit of shelves. She was then counting down her drawer again before turning off all the lights, closing, and locking up the doors again. Having her backpack over her shoulder as Jessica walked up the street, thinking about what would be happening tomorrow. When she would be going back to her school, Peter and herself would be together as friends who honestly was nice. Mostly, Jess didn't want to have anyone else take her to the dance because it wouldn't be the same thing. Of course, she didn't know the whole time she was being followed by 3 or 5 guys where all black except for their faces. 
They kept their distance from to not make her aware of their presence, wanting to jump her when she had her guard down. Honestly, at night here in New York, it wasn't a safe place for a young lady to be wandering around the streets at night. Not something Jess liked to do though she had to walk home since her mom was working double shifts at the Diner tonight. Jess sighed, thinking about the song she would be singing for the homecoming dance, not sure what to sing? Listening to her music with one earbud out listening to "Don't You Forget About Me" humming along to the song. They then thought she should sing this one for the dance, knowing it would cool because she loved the movie and this song. Knowing this would be the perfect song for the dance since the whole theme happened to be the 80's and knew it would be really cool. Glad to be apart of the fun in her way, thinking about how things were going to end up? 
Mainly between herself and Peter, they would go together for the dance then broken from Jessica's thoughts. Noticing the rain touching her head, thinking this was going to be a long and cold walk home, not like she was a reasonable distance from her apartment building. Pulling the hood over her head, Peter had changed into his Spider-Man outfit to patrol the city. Swinging back by where Jess worked noticing she was heading home thinking it was odd it just out of the blue raining like this. His eyes widening upon seeing a group of guys tailing after her following to make sure nothing happened to her. Being on the rooftop looking down at everything going on, he didn't know what would happen to her if he didn't stick around. He brushed aside the thought from his mind since he didn't want to think about something like this, especially Jessica.

After what happened in the Civil War between the Avengers, Peter continuously texts Happy. Peter has always wanted more with the powers he possesses from the spider that bites him. During a class field trip, only shortly afterward realize he had something like this. Being a teenager and a hero, along with being a social outcast at high school. Despite having two best friends Ned and Jessica. Though Peter has a crush on Liz Toomes, finding her cool and pretty, he had feelings towards Jessica. Mainly because Jess was the first girl in his life to stand up for him and be friends with. Homecoming coming up soon, and someone is creating alien tech weapons in the criminal's underbelly. Which girl does the web-crawler end up taking with him, and will he be able to stop the crimes in the process?
