Yale's group was impolite once they reached the palace and walked towards the place the Emperor was without waiting for the servants to guide them.
Once in the banquet room, they all just sit without even greeting the Emperor. Yale was even looking at him as if he was looking at an ant.
That was huge disrespect that made the servants angry, but the Emperor wasn't angry at all because he believed that Yale really could kill him like if he was shooting an ant, so his behavior wasn't improper at all.
"So, why do you wanted to meet us?"
Although Yale said that, the Emperor just wanted to meet him, but the Emperor decided that it was better to avoid correcting him.
"My men were disrespectful to you, so I wanted to apologize personally."
The Emperor shifted the blame to his men, although he was the one who gave the order to attack his brother's hideout. However, it was true that he didn't order to attack Yale because of Yale's existence.
If he had known that a mysterious person was protecting his young brother, he would have done a careful investigation before deciding to attack.
"Oh, you mean those that wanted to enslave my friend and me because we didn't have travel permission? Or maybe those who surrounded the three of us with the intention to kill us, but I chased away?"
The face of the Emperor changed; he didn't know that the ones who died mysteriously also offended Yale.
At that moment, the Emperor was happy that those fools died at Yale's hands.

The Emperor really didn't have the guts to order his cooks to poison the food because he was sure that Yale would notice, and it would be useless. Moreover, he didn't believe that any poison of his universe would be able to kill a Great God.
"That would be great if it were true, but there is a poisoned dish here. Your eyes are really bad, or are you trying to poison us?"
Yale pointed a certain dish while speaking.
When the Emperor focused on that dish, he laughed.
"Well, the ingredients of that dish are indeed poisonous, but when cooked by our expert cooks, the poison is neutralized and turns into the best delicacy of our universe. Anyway, the poison of the ingredients can only harm fourth level immortals or weaker."
Only the palace had cooks that could prepare that dish, so the Emperor felt that Yale just recognized the ingredients and was suspicious of his intentions.
Of course, the poison would be unable to harm Yale or Tofesh, but the same wouldn't apply for the Emperor's young brother, so the Emperor didn't feel strange that Yale mentioned it.
"I know that. However, that isn't cooked properly, it just seems to be properly cooked. That is still poisonous enough to kill your brother, can you explain this?"

"Of course! This is the best dish I made. It is specially prepared to suit the tastes of your guests. I invite you all to start for this dish before it gets cold."
The cook winked at the Emperor and put part of the poisoned dish in front of each one of Yale's group.
A second later, the head of the cook fell to the ground.
He was dead, but he wasn't killed by Yale or Tofesh, he was killed by the Emperor himself.
He understood that the cook did the poisoned food on purpose to get rid of the Emperor's young brother.
The cook believed that everything was just a facade to kill stealthy the Emperor's young brother, so he specially prepared that poisoned food. He believed that the Emperor would kill the other two afterward.
"I am sorry, I never expected to have such a petty person on the palace's staff. Servants, clean the mess."
The corpse and the poisoned food were taken out immediately by the servants, and a minute later, it was like if nothing happened.
The Emperor knew that the cook was just misled by his lies, but he needed to kill him first, or when Yale acted, the whole palace would have been destroyed, and probably the whole universe would have followed it.

"So here are my terms," Nikka said as soon as they came to his apartment. She didn't even wait for Marcus to offer her anything and just sat down on the stool by the kitchen island. She took a pen and paper from her purse, and started writing down. Marcus just studied her. 

       Where is the sweet girl she knew? He thought. Did I really cause her so much pain for her to hate me that much?

        He walked towards her, sat on the stool beside her and held her hand. She stopped for a moment and looked at him. 

       "Nikka, can we just talk? We will get through all of your terms, and I promise I will follow whatever is written there but first, let's just talk," he said, trying to convince her. "Looks like you haven't even eaten anything yet. Why don't I cook up something for us?"

        Before she could answer, he stood up and rolled up his sleeves. Nikka can't help but stare at his strong arms as he went to the fridge and take the eggs, and a pack of bacon. She watched him as he started preparing his ingredients.

      "I didn't know you can cook," she said. 

       He smiled and said, "Well, it's because I never cooked for you before and your mom is the best cook. Who would want to compete with that?"

       She agreed and continued to watch him. 

       "Mom taught me how to cook some dishes but so far, Tita Martha is still the best. She would cook the best dishes all the time that every time I visit I couldn't resist them. They were just delicious."

      It's true. Her mom was the best cook. Since they were always invited to large gatherings by the Joneses, her mom usually cooks for them. Oftentimes, people would ask about a certain food and they would like her to make it for them. Thus, it started her side business of catering. As more people get the word of mouth, she gets more orders in a day. Sometimes she would cook four different kinds of food in one day. Although she gets exhausted most of the time, she doesn't mind since it made her happy. Serving others is what she loves. 

       Now, she's gone and she felt a huge void in her heart. Tears suddenly fell from her eyes and she wiped them away with her hand as she saw Marcus offering her a blue handkerchief. She didn't even notice he was standing beside her. She looked at him as she took the handkerchief and wiped her eyes with it. 

       "I missed her so much," she cried. Marcus hugged her close to him as she kept crying. 

       "I know. I miss her, too. I missed them both," said Marcus. 

       She buried her head on his shoulder as she wrapped her arms around his neck. Suddenly, she doesn't feel so alone anymore. She felt him gently stroking her hair. How it feels so good to be in his arms!

       She felt so secure and protected. It has been a long time she ever felt this way, and she held tighter, not wanting to let go. She could feel his breath on her face, and the slow rise of his chest. It relaxed her and soon out of exhaustion, she dozed off. 

       He traced his hand on her cheek then to her lips as it slightly parted with his touch. He scooped her up in his arms and carried her to the guest bedroom. Despite of the changes he made in the apartment, that room was the only one that remained the same. There were times that he would lie there, trying to remember her sweet innocent face, hoping one day to touch it once again. He wanted to trace his finger on her jawline and admired her sweet red lips.

     He placed her on the bed gently so he doesn't wake her. He bent beside the bed and gently push a strand of hair from her face. She still looked beautiful even when asleep. It's been three years since she last laid down on this bed and he took in every detail of her, filling up the longing he has been feeling for a long time.

     "If I could only ease all the pain, Nikka, I would..." he whispered. 

     He could see the dark circles around her eyes, and he couldn't resist the urge not to kiss her eyelids. Her eyeborws creased as she shifted and her dress hiked up revealing her thigh. He sighed and gently pulled it down. He placed a blanket on top of her and went to the door. Me too, And in fact, If aelex doesn't just sulk I won't really study cooking, Not that I am lazy but I just don't feel like I want to learn to cook.
"Okay then, Put on your aprons and so that we can start," Aelex's mood changed so suddenly, his previously frightening look was quickly replaced by a sweet smile.

"So the first thing we do is the basic," Aelex said while looking at us.
Loisa and I frowned! Is there a basic in cooking as well? Wow! I don't know that, Do I? Why don't we just cook then tada~~ There's food already.
"Ohoh! Don't give me that look, Dawn, I know that look! Of course, There's a basic in everything," He explained that he seemed proud and he read what I was thinking so I just rolled my eyes at him.
"So, The basic is frying~~~~," He said, more like he sang that phase.
Hmm frying, Well I think it's an easy job.
Loisa and I have already started preparing the things we will use while Aelex is just guiding us on what will do next.
I proudly presented what I cooked in front of Aelex and so did Loisa.
I saw Aelex was surprised when he looked at what I cooked so I knew that he was impressed in the outcome of what I was cooking and of course it's because it was perfect.
"Do you plan to burn the fish?" Aelex asked me while frowning so my jaw dropped on what he said.

I mean, I fried the fish based on what he instructed me? What else is missing there?
"You said to flipped the fish if it turns into golden brown and so I did," I explained.
"Yes! I said to flip it when it turns Golden brown but I did not tell you to burn the fish! Look at that, Can we still have something to eat with that?" Aelex angrily rebuked me.
I don't know but I was hurt there! It seems like I want to cook again to prove to him that I can cook.
Like she's preventing herself to laugh! Ugh just so you wait! both of you! I'll let you see one day that I can cook a delicious dish.
"How about mine Aelex? How does it look? Go ahead, Have a taste," Loisa proudly while she smirked at me.
Wait~ What was that? Ugh and now I feel like we're competing.
Aelex looked at what she had cooked and checked it "Well, not bad it looks nice,"

So Loisa's former laughter was replaced by astonishment.

"ugh! same here!" Loisa whined.
Gosh! this girl is really childish.
"Anyways, there's still another time so better luck next time," I said proudly, chin up.
"Huh! dream on girl, I'll gonna make it perfect next time," She replied proudly too.
"So may the best cook wins?" I said with a smirk.

"Hush" Aaron kept a finger on his lips and signalled Asher to talk in a low volume, "Dude, Amara is awake"
"Yeah, but our house is sound-proofed."

"I'll also relax for some time, a bit tired." Amelia informed Aaron and he asked her to rest for some time and after an hour or two they can start cooking.
Sometime later, the four people gathered in the living room.
Amelia checked her phone and shouted in excitement.
"What happened?" Amara was the first one to ask her.
"Oh goodness, there was an article of you and Joshua on the internet, Grayson shared it with me and is asking me why is Aaron looking like Joshua"
"What article?"
"Let me forward it"
Amelia sent the article to Amara and Aaron.
Asher signalled her to send it to him too and Amelia signalled him back saying she doesn't have his number.
Asher extended his hand asking for her phone, he saw the article she was talking about
The article was about Ms. Brown and Mr. Devies who just landed in Paris to attend the famous magazine's event.
Amara was surprised to see the two photos that were published, in one she was romantically whispering something to Joshua and in the other one they were looking at each other, their eyes full of love and were brightly smiling.
"You guys look so good" Amelia commented still reading the article.
Asher was going through the article and she sat next to him reading it.
"This photo is photoshopped to make us look romantic" Amara complained as what was in the photo and the reality were not matching.
"That is how media is, they click your pictures in a way that things seem different than reality" Asher explained to her.
Asher then saved his number on Amelia's phone under Aaron's name and sent that article to himself.
Amelia then patiently read the contents of the article and was very happy.
They wrote how deeply in love the couple seem to be, then there were some details on how perfect their outfits looked like, they also assumed the couple arrived earlier for the event to spend some romantic time in Paris.
After reading the entire article, Amara only cursed at the person who wrote all of this as it was too cheesy and irritating for her.
"Stop reading that stupid article" Amara ordered Joshua who was smiling reading the contents of the article.
"It is not stupid, it is a brilliant article, I love it" Joshua retorted back.
Since Asher was there, Amara decided to keep calm and not create a scene.
After a few minutes, Joshua asked Amelia to teach him how to cook the two dishes they planned for dinner, Amelia agreed and the two were just about to go to the kitchen when Asher made an announcement.
"Amara, today me and Amelia had an argument about who is the better cook between us"
After hearing what Asher said, Amara was like, 'Okay, why the hell are you telling me that?'
But she tried to be nice, "Okay?" she questioned him.
Asher continued, "So, we couldn't reach a conclusion, therefore we decided we both would cook steak and baked vegetables today for dinner, then you need to decide who cooked it better"
Amelia wanted to ask him when did they decide that but it would look weird in front of Amara so she kept quiet and looked at Aaron asking for his help to save her from this weird brother of his.
"Mr. Devies, no offence but why waste food like this?" Aaron tried to stop his brother from acting so childish.
"None taken Joshua, since we are four people, Amelia and I can cook food for two people each so that the quantity is not wasted and don't worry I am an amazing cook too, you won't be disappointed with the food I prepared."
Aaron couldn't pursue him further as currently he is Joshua, an outsider and not Aaron, Asher's elder brother so he just had to agree to Asher's suggestion.
"Sure, I would love to eat cooked food by you too Aaron, I don't mind it" Amara shared her opinion as she didn't care about all of this.
Asher victoriously smiled at Amelia and joined her in the kitchen.
Joshua wanted to learn how to make these dishes but Asher told him to wait in the living room and relax, after Amara decides which dish she loves more, then Joshua can learn from that person.
Amelia rolled her eyes at how possessive Asher is about Aaron that he didn't like his brother learning something from her.
Having no choice Joshua joined Amara in the living room and they just saw Asher and Amelia working in the kitchen.
"They don't look like a couple; they look more like two kids who dislike each other" Amara in a low volume whispered to Joshua who was surprised at what she said as she was again on point.
"What nonsense?" He tried to deny it.
"Amelia once told me she has no feelings for Aaron but now it seems he too doesn't like her much"
"I think you are overthinking"
"No, since I came, I only got weird vibes from them"
Aaron helplessly shook his head and wondered how does she manage to see the real side of every person she meets.
"We should not judge people this way"

"I still don't get it" Aaron was really confused.
"When we have an argument and I say something that you don't agree with then you don't ask me to prove it even if you know I am lying, like what Aaron is doing."
Joshua understood what she meant, "So, you are saying we are more like a real couple and they are not?" He wanted to distract her from Amelia and Asher.
"Yes, that is exactly what I meant" Amara didn't hesitate in answering his question in spite of knowing the trap his words laid for her.
He was shocked, 'You never fail to surprise me' he thought.
"Amara…"
"I am serious, although we are not in a relationship, let us face the truth, we like each other but look at them, although they are a couple, they seem to be competing with each other like two kids"
"Amara, some couples are competitive in life"
"Yeah, but they don't even seem to be in love"
"Give them some time"

             "Yeah, I do."  Kosi smiled, stealing glances at where Odili and Muna sat at the dining, eating their food. "Just that, at least come see me. I have been the one coming to you even when you aren't married." 







                 "I'm sorry, okay."  Genevieve apologized. "Just that I haven't had the time and I was even sleeping when Muna came to wake me up, telling me one of friends came visiting me. I want to sleep throughout today without anyone waking me up." 








                 "Lazy ass."  Kosi said, earning a laughter from Genevieve. 








                  "I know I'm kinda lazy sometimes but you won't blame me, I'm human you know." Genevieve joked while laughing.






 

                   "Anyways how's your hair dressing business?."  Genevieve asked. "I hope it's going well?."






                  "Yeah, it is."  Kosi sighed. "Though every day isn't Chrismas but it's going fine."  She smiled.








                         "You should be happy."  Genevieve smiled. "You dress the hairs of most of the rich people, that should be enough reason to put a smile on your face."








                  "Yes, you're correct but they don't come everyday but anyways I'm happy."  She smiled.








                "That's the spirit, I love it."  Genevieve cooed.







   
                       "Aunty, come and eat your breakfast."  Muna called. "It's getting cold."

                 Kosi looked at Odili who was busy drinking his tea. Not paying attention at them and he hasn't said a word after the teasing between him and Genevive. She wondered if he was the talking type or not. Since she came here, Muna has been the one talking not him.








              "Babe I only came to know how you're doing." Kosi said. "And I guess you are busy today, I will come back another day."  She said standing up.








               "But you just came now."  Genevieve implied. "Won't you have something to eat?."








            "No, I'm good."  Kosi replied. "I just came by to check on you, I will eat something when next I come."







                 She had to play it cool. 








                   "I will be going then."  She said. "Goodbye to you."  She directed the sentence to Muna and Odili but Odili never spoken up.







                       He had a bad feeling about this lady, his spirit doesn't accept her.








                     "I will walk you to the door then."  Genevieve said, standing up. She walked her to the door, bading her goodbye.








                     She returned to the sitting room and walked up to the dining room, sitting down.








                     She served herself the tea and bread with the eggs. "So you prepared this yourself?."  She asked, eating her food.








                      "Yeah, I did."  Odili said. "Are you surprise to see me cook?."  He asked, eyeing her.








                       "Well, you can say so."  She insinuated. "I haven't seen you in the kitchen since we got married, I'm the one always in the kitchen not you."  She pointed her spoon at him.







             Odili smiled at her frivolousness.







                  "Well, I'm a little impressed."  She imputed. "That you prepared tea doesn't mean you know how to cook, everyone can prepare tea. We will know when you prepare the real foods."








                       "Are you by any way challenging me?."  He asked, folding his arms against his chest. 








                       "You can say that but I'm not challenging you, I'm just stating a fact."  She smirked.








                      "Yes, uncle."  Muna chipped in. "I want you and aunty to compete on cooking, I want to know whose food taste the best."








                  "I can't compete with her."  Odili said. "I know I'm way more better than her in cooking."







 
                     "Then, why don't we compete to know who actually is the best cook."  Genevieve said, stuffing her mouth with eggs.








                      "Yes, uncle."  Muna giggled. "I will be the judge of your dishes."







                   Odili stared at her as she eats her food, this woman has been teasing him so much, she was like his sister, the teasing type. What? that he doesn't know how to do anything, that he was just a business man not a household man. Well he will prove it to her today, he was good in everything. 






       
                  And he didn't know why but he derives joy from her teasing, the way she teased him in everything infact he just loved the sound of her voice.






                         No, he needs to be careful when it comes to love. This was just an arranged marriage not love marriage and women never interested him.
       







                  "Fine, I accept."  He said, unfolding his arms. "I accept the challenge." 






     
                   "Yeeee..."  Muna squealed, clapping his tiny hands. "Now let the contest begin."  He said, faking an authoritive voice.







                Genevieve laughed.







                   Genevieve finished eating, they cleared the table and took the plates to the kitchen.







                        "But first, we have to freshen up before we start the contest."  She implied, washing their plates.







                  "Okay."  Muna said. After washing the plates, she took Muna upstairs, helping him take his bathe.







               "Aunty, I'm big boy now. I can wash myself and I don't like it when girls bathe me, my mom doesn't bathe me but my father."  He said earning a smile from Genevieve.







               "So you don't want me to bathe you, alright then I won't and I don't like bathing big boys like you either."  She said, pretending to wash her soapy hands. "I will tell your uncle to come bathe you himself." 







                     She tried to leave the bathroom to go call Odili when Muna stopped her by placing his tiny palm on her hand. 







                   "No, aunty."  Muna said, showing off his milk teeth. "I was only joking, I don't want uncle. I want you to bathe me."







                       Genevieve turned, smiling at him. "Okay then, just stop complaining, I'm not girls. I'm your aunty."







                       "Yeah.".  Muna smiled. She finished bathing him and dressing him into a Sunday outfit. She went to their room, took her bathe, putting on some three quarter jean and blue top. She tied her hair in an onion bun.






                          Odili had already taken his bathe, waiting for them in the kitchen.







                   "Mmmmmmn, someone's gonna lose today, muhahaha."  She laughed wickedly.







                     "Muhahaha....."  Odili mimicked her through gritted teeth. "We gonna know who will loose and if you loose, don't cry."







                 "I will never cry."  She scoffed. "I know I will never lose but you will."  She jammed her finger on his chest.







                 He looked at her down to her finger, couldn't believe he was doing this, he was actually competing with her over cooking, he has become like her, teasing like her. He didn't know why he was doing this but he wants to prove to her he can cook.







                      "Okay, what are we going to cook?."  Genevieve asked Muna. 







                      "Let's cook spaghetti."  Muna said.







                    "Spaghetti?."  Odili scoffed. "That's a simple dish to prepare."







                       "He wants it so I'm gonna prepare it for him."  She smiled.







                       "Uncle, what are you going to cook?."  Muna asked.







                   "I'm going to prepare fried rice."  He implied.







                     "Wow."  Muna squealed. "I really want to taste your food."







                    "And you will."  He smiled.







                 "As if you know how to do so."  Genevieve scoffed. "Don't worry if you need my help, I will help."







                "Thanks for your offer but I don't need your help, I can do it myself."  He said.
      





                      "Okay."  She shrugged. They began cooking, Muna helped Genevieve prepare spaghetti, It was a simple dish that didn't require too much energy.  







                       "Uncle, do you need any help, I can help you with anything."  Muna inserted.








                 "Yes."  Odili answered. "Help me with the salt."  He pointed at the salt beside Genevieve, Muna gave him the salt.







                   "Mmmmm..... that smells nice."  Muna said, referring to his uncle's dish. "I'm sure it will taste great."







                     "Hear that."  He said to Genevieve. 







                     "Muna?."  She called. "So you are implying mine won't taste great?."








                    "Of course, your own will taste great too, I'm sure of it."  She smiled and ruffled his hair.








                    They waited for the dishes to get done, after some minutes they switched off the gas cooker. shifting the top of the pots a little to let the vapour out.








                      Genevieve puts some on a plate for Muna. Muna ate it, relishing on the sweetness of the food.








                        "Wow, this tastes delicious."  Muna complimented. "I tell you aunt, you are the best cook I have ever seen."








                     "Thanks."  She pretended to touch her chest with her palm, touched by his words. "I'm so flattered."








                "You haven't tasted mine and you are now declaring her the winner."  Odili said, faking sadness. "What makes her the best cook when you haven't tasted mine."







                    "Someone is jealous."  She implied, smirking. 






                   "I'm not jealous, why would I be jealous of you?."  Odili asked, rhetorically. "I know I'm way more better than you when it comes to cooking in fact anything." 







                  Seriously, What was he doing? dragging who was the best cook with her, seriously what has gotten into him this days. He knew he never spare this woman a glance talk more of talking to her. Really, Muna made him do so to the point of competing with her but anyways he accepted the challenge cause he wanted to prove it to her. She has teased him enough.







               After eating the one Genevieve gave him and praising her cooking talent. His uncle also puts some of his food on a plate, giving it to him.







                  "Wow, wow.  Muna exclaimed, tasting his food. "Mmmmm...Wow uncle this is superb." 







              Genevieve felt a little jealous when she heard those words coming out of his mouth. There's no way he was better than her in cooking and Muna hasn't called the result yet, he was just exaggerating.







               "Someone is turning fifty shades of red."  Odili teased and laughed. "I told you, I'm way more better, just that I don't like showing off."







              That was the first time she ever seen him laugh, normally he used to smile or chuckle but never laughed. And the sound that laughter carried was so nice and sweet that it tickled her body.







                    "I like the sound of that?."  She complimented. 






          
                  "Sound of what? "  He asked, confused. "You mean that I'm more of a cook than you."







                    "No, not that."  She said. "But you should laugh often, it's good for your body."







                 He was taken off guard with her words. What did she mean by he should laugh often, he do laugh. Then it rung on his head that since they ever got married, he never laughed. But that's because he never accepted the marriage.







                  So you have accepted it now?. His inner voice asked. That one question, he doesn't have an answer for it now.







                 "And you haven't won yet."  She pointed out, interrupting his thoughts. "Muna hasn't called the winner yet."







                   He stared at her but his mind wasn't on who the winner will be but how much he changed lately because of this woman.







                   "Yes, uncle. I haven't called the winner yet." Muna chipped in.







                 "Then do it now, I'm tired of waiting."  He inserted, clearing the thoughts of her in his head.







                    "The winner is....."  Muna said, prolonging the is. 






                  "Say it already."  Genevieve demanded.







                   "My uncle."  Muna finally breathed it out. "My uncle's own tastes more delicious but that doesn't mean your own didn't taste great, infact you will always be the best good cook to me. But I had to say the simple truth."







                    "What?, that your uncle food taste more better." She implied, faking disappointment. "You made him the winner cause he's your uncle."  She pouted.







   
                  Actually she wasn't disappointed at all but pleased. She was actually impressed by his work. When she tasted his food, she had to admit he has a great sense of cooking than her.







     
                  "Give me five."  Odili said to Muna, which he did. "Don't brag too much, you know."  He referred to Genevieve. "I know I'm way more better, I'm not some lazy guy you know."







                  "Don't get mad because you lost."  He added.


      




              "Actually I'm impressed."  She smirked, as an idea popped on in her head. "Now that I have known you  can cook, you're gonna be the one to cook dinner. And I'm not mad or jealous that you won, I'm really happy at least my days of being in kitchen will be lessen."







   
                   "What?."
