"From somebody who has only one apartment and a car to his name, you have some nerves to talk to me in that manner." She fired.
"Oh, and you have??" He said sarcastically, placing his left hand behind his left ear as though he was trying to her her talk, then continued,
 "That's right. Two hundred thousand Naira which only exists in your mind now, an endorsement deal from Coca-Cola which you will most definitely lose in the next two months or less, and a smelling attitude which should be added to your CV; who knows, it could give it an upgrade." He ended, wearing a smirk.
"You son of..." 
"Shut the fuck up!" He commanded with a more intense voice, glaring into her eyes.
"I'll be stepping out now. You wouldn't want me to come back and meet you, or any of your stuffs in my house,"
"Or what??!" She retorted. He moved closer to her, awaking a sudden fever in her.
"Or I'll beat the living Satan out of you." He replied calmly, then started towards the door, fuming. 
"Three hours. That's all you have; three hours." He added, then walked out, jumped into his 2012 Toyota Camry "spider" hybrid vehicle, and drove out of the compound. 

SARAH
Sarah wasn't up for the cliché meet up-talk-date cruise, but she had to accept Charles' request for an "unusual date", in his words, so Anthonia who happens to be her flat mate would let her walk around the house in peace. 
"For God's sake Sarah, all he's asking for is just one date!" She'd always say. One date. That was all it took to let one stranger feel entitled to her space because he bought her food.
"Well, if you feel that way, you can opt to pay for your own meal, or better, pay for your meals." She would add whenever Sara brought up the issue of entitlement, so she decided to give it a try, with the mindset of boldly walking out on him if he tried anything silly.
4:15PM.
"Sarah! Its 4:15pm already! How much longer do you intend to keep this gentleman?" Anthonia's voice rang loud in the flat.
"A true gentleman would wait for a woman, regardless of how long she spends making up. After all, she's only trying to make herself beautiful for him, isn't she?" She replied sarcastically, walking gracefully into their living room.
She was cladded in a black body fitted polo, making her cupped boobs stand out regardless of her inner wear, an ash jogger that gave space for her wide hips and endowed ass to stand out, and a black sneaker.
"What in God's name are you wearing?!! Do you..."
"He made it clear that it was going to be an 'unusual' date, didn't he? Well, what's better than going unusual? By the way, why don't we ask the gentleman if he has an issue with my outfit? Huh, Jeremy?" Sarah replied swiftly, shifting her gaze to him.

"Its completely fine," she assured, cutting him short. "So much for being a gentleman!" she muttered under her breath.

A man walks up to the middle of the arena. He seems quite confident as a small smirk gives him an arrogant air. With a flick of his wrist, a huge engine appears from the white veil converting the mysterious object of the tournament.
The host does his job well to hype up the crowd.
"And now! This contestant is a talented and blooming student at the University of Georgia!"
The University of Georgia is the only university in the capital of Keltc[1], and though some especially smart commoners are allowed in, they typically never manage to graduate for a number of reasons. 
"His work has once managed to win the prize for most innovative experiments and his work is often praised by the professors teaching this young lad."
If this kid is publicly appraised for his work then his father must have some connections as a businessman.
"Only 20 this year and already dubbed the small genius of Georgia! He has now presented himself in this new tournament, how lucky we are!"
Marguerite rolls her eyes, which doesn't escape Mathys who laughs at the unexpected behaviour.
He brings out a flask, and inside the flask is a few litters of milk. Marguerite tilts her head slightly at the odd sight and asks herself what could possibly be made with milk. Her interest is greatly spiked.
He takes another flask which contains a clear liquid. The host asks him what is contained inside and he answers that it's a secret. Marguerite has an inkling that it could either be water or vinegar, but she doesn't see the use for water in this case.
He heats up the milk and does a series of tasks, and with each task, Marguerite's eyes widen even more. She becomes excited as the crowd becomes more and more bored.
In the end, he pulls out a weird blob with an odd colour from the solution of milk and vinegar. Marguerite can hardly believe it, this guy just made casein plastic!
The others look at his blob with odd looks at first, but what he does next finally brings out a good reaction from the crowd.
He starts to mould the plastic into very fine sculptures: animals, flowers, birds, you name it.
As the crowd admires his artistic skills, Marguerite is more amazed at his ability to figure out the chemical formula to make casein plastic without a guide. She feels her heartbeat become stronger and stronger as his fingers glide across the milky figures.
This man, he is the one!
The tournament continues for a while after that, and Marguerite fell in love with 3 other people: a woman making a water filter, a man boiling water without heat by reducing the pressure, and a child making a homemade bomb. The homemade bomb made her especially worried and surprised, but she felt that these concerned were not worth overlooking such talent.

She found it interesting how none of them was the winner of the prize, the first guy, who's name is Martin, went on a rampage about how none of them understands the art of his science and the beauty of his worldview. Emma sat at her desk, looking at her computer screen. She reached up, pulling a pencil from the bun she had her hair rolled up in. She jotted down a note and then stood up from her desk and walked out of the room. She casually looked at the boxes in the hallway and then walked into the kitchen. As she rounded the corner, she heard Steven talking on the phone.
"I don't care what time they put it in! It just needs to be in by tomorrow." 
He smiled at Emma as she walked in. He pulled the phone from his ear and whispered, "I'll be done here in a minute." 
Emma walked over to the teapot on the stove and poured some water in a cup, then grabbed a teabag. Steven hung up the phone and tossed it to the counter.
"So, that was Maggie! Every time I talk to her, she makes me wish we were back at the magazine fighting it out with Gregg and the rest of the writers. Gregg was easy compared to that woman. I can't deal with her deadlines or her expectations. She wants the next edits by Tuesday." 
He walked over, grabbed her tea and took a sip.
"Thanks for the tea." He grinned. "And you don't have time to drink tea, so back to work." 
Emma laughed and then took her cup from him. "Did she send the advance like she said she would?" 
Steven scoffed. "No, and I told her it had to be in tomorrow-or else."
Emma sipped her tea and then laughed. "I'm just glad you're dealing with the business side of this and I'm dealing with the writing."
Steven laughed as Emma turned and walked from the counter. He yelled after her, "The moving truck is due in tomorrow too, and they say they can have the flat packed up and done by tomorrow afternoon."
Emma yelled back down the hall, "That's fine! I can work while they pack."
Steven looked around the corner to her. "No, you can't. You know they will be too noisy."
She shrugged. "Ok, well, then what do you suggest I do? You were the one complaining about Maggie and deadlines, and you have work to do too-When is that freelance piece you were working on due?" 
Steven disappeared back around the corner. "It's due when I get it done because it's freelance-And don't deflect to me. You're the one with the big book contract and the agent. I have no boss-so back to work," he teased.

The photographs of Guadalcanal were untouched and unseen by anyone before. One of the more interesting shots was from a famous photographer by the name of Robert Capa. Robert was revered as one of the most influential photographers from World War II. He is well known for swimming ashore at Omaha beach during the first wave. Only a few of the one hundred shots he took that day made it. Within the trove of photos delivered to the museum, they found numerous shots of sunrises. It seemed there was a sunrise from each beach landing in the Pacific. 
Robert died in South East Asia while on assignment for Time life and his friend Joseph Martinson passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 9th, 2012. Eight weeks to the day his Elizabeth joined him at 7:59 A.M. just as the sun rose.

Xu Cheng was so angry that she strode forward and swept the documents and books on the bespectacled girl's desk to the ground. Fortunately, the bespectacled woman was on guard and picked up her laptop. Otherwise, her laptop wouldn't have been spared!
The bespectacled woman finally lost her cool and placed her laptop in a safe place, then grabbed Xu Cheng by the collar. Although she wasn't tall, she was very strong. She directly pulled Xu Cheng out of her office and threw her to the ground. "You crazy woman, if you want to throw a fit, go to an asylum and admit yourself! Don't interfere with other people's work here! Do you think everyone is like you, relying on shameless methods and pretending to be someone else to obtain assets? There aren't that many things in the world that can be obtained without work, and there aren't so many stupid and ignorant people like you!" The bespectacled woman shouted at the reception secretary of the Film and Media Department, "What are you all still waiting for? Call security! Get this wannabe out of here!"

But all he got in exchange was an eye roll, "Keep it for yourself, I don't need it!"

DID I MENTION we can't die easily?

Well it's one of the catches of creating our world, Apparently we can only die by the usual cause of death or they will enforce suicide on us. Committing suicide is a serious act of sin because it is a great insult to the goddess Aphrodites.

People being murdered does not happen often but if it does they are punished severely by our supreme officers and the goddess herself- or so they say.

We're not overly populated because my kind of species die when we reached 50, excluding me of course. We do have plenty of time to raise our off-springs but most of the cases are that the off-springs are usually under custody with their younger-than-their-parents-godparents or are orphans.

It does not take long for the orphans to be adopted since we are all influenced by love and all, lovers can only have one biological off-spring. Our females can't handle another pregnancy experience or they die, if you want more kids then orphanage is definitely an option.

Technically all of us are blood-related, incestuous I know but it's not like we have a choice besides in this world love is love. That includes the LGBTIQ people.

'Goddess this is going to be a pain in the ass to finish' I thought as I stretched my arms out.

I've been editing Nancy's book that consists of six-hundred pages, it's a cliché one honestly. The stereotype bad boy falls in love with the nerd guy. Everyone seems to like those types of stories since they are hopelessly romantic and that includes Nancy.

I may be a freelance-writer but I owe Nina a favor for covering me at an important meeting once when I was still laying down on my bed, hangover. I just didn't know that the small favor would end up me at 2am in the morning editing her work she gave 6 hours ago when the deadline of the book is on Friday.

And it's Thursday, I'm still on page 189. She expects me to finish this ridiculous task in a day and a few hours? As if I don't have a life to live.

"I swear, I'm going to berate that bitch when I see her" I grunted.

Taking a few sips of my hot americano coffee as I take a deep breath to keep myself calm and level headed. Looking over to my right I see the photo that is perched on top of my bookshelf.

'It's probably covered in dust now'

Standing up, I can barely feel my legs for sitting too long but ignored it as I maneuvered forward. Taking the dirty frame on my hands as I look at it closely.

It was a picture of two girls one of them had her head tilted on the side with her eyes closed and her arms around the other girl's waist as she kissed her on the cheek the other girl who's being embraced was smiling brightly at the camera. It was taken during winter therefore they had snow on top of their clothes and beanies but despite the cold, anyone that is looking at the picture can clearly see two happy girls.

Taking the picture out I turned it over, showing me her elegant handwriting 'I'll wait on the other side'.

'I should have gone with you...'

Ring ring… Ring ring… Ring ring…

The sound of my phone emitted brought me out of the moment.

'Who in the heavens is calling me on this ungodly hour?' I thought as I started to advance towards my rather large mahogany desk where my phone is settled at and putting the photo down on my laptop.

Ring ring… Ring ri–

"Halls speaking" I greeted the other side of the line.

"…"

"Hello?" I questioned but still was answered by silence.

"Alright I'm hanging up" I said ready to press the red button.

"Wait! Erm… Yes, uh… umm.. uh…" A headache is starting to form and this person's stuttering on the line isn't helping.

"Look whoever this is I'm sorry but right now is not a good time" I said rubbing my temples with my left hand as I look at my alarm clock, the red LEDs flashing. 2:47 a.m.

"Yes! Of course! I'm very sorry to bother you especially at this hour" The person seems sincere.

"It's fine… May I at least know who this is?"

"Um, it's Bronte… Aviel Bronte" he stated nervously.

"Mmm… And how can I help you Mr. Bronte?" sitting down while sipping my coffee.

'It's lukewarm now, had I wondered too long?'

"I uhm yes, I'm requesting you to be my editor. I need your help with my book and I believe-"

"I believe it's stated in my company that you have to email me about the request and details, not directly contact me"

"Yes I know but this is a special case, otherwise the company wouldn't have given me your personal number"

'What were they thinking? I'm just a freelance writer, the only reason why I edited other peoples works is because they are my close friends' I thought as I look at the paperwork on my desk.

"I'm afraid this has to wait regardless of what the company thought, you must send me a request form and the description of your book"

"But-"

"And when I have finished the work I'm currently having I'll give yours a thought"

"I'm sure this book will interest you"

"I'm sure it will Mr. Bronte but for now I must rest"

"Right of course, I apologize again for the disturbance Ms. Hall"

"I'll be waiting for your email Mr. Bronte, goodbye" I said firmly as I ended the call.

'Was it really urgent that it has to be discussed early in the morning?' I let out sigh.

Well either way I still need to finish Nancy's book…

This was the twelfth similar message he received since he lost his job five months ago. He put his hands on his face in frustration as he lost hope once more. 
"Another refill, sir?" said the friendly waitress in front of him, carrying what seemed like a freshly brewed cup of coffee.
He put his hands down and did his best to smile. "Yes, Angela. Thank you."
As warm coffee poured into his cup, he glanced around the café to notice that he was the only customer at the moment. "Please call me if you need anything else," she said then walked towards the counter.
Beautiful. That was the word to best describe Angela. The star waitress of the Café Johannsson, a coffee bar and shop situated between the numerous workplaces of the business district and several ivy-league schools. It had been his favorite hangout spot since his college days. The main reason being, was that he once had a crush on the waitress that had just served him. Same as a thousand other boys making it a pipe dream for everyone. Anyone that made a move on her was always harassed by the others and if the unfortunate guy made it through, he still had to win the indomitable goddess' favor. The Goddess of Coffee, as she is called by her fan club for her remarkable skill as a coffee barista and unmatched beauty. Youth is certainly filled with stupidity.
But all of that was far from his concerns. Having graduated with top marks and strong contributions as the staff of his college paper and gaining five years of experience as a writer then editor in a respectable publication was all for naught. Five months ago, he lost it all. His reputation, his career, and his so-called friends. All because of one piece of paper he wasn't supposed to see. 
He sipped the last of his coffee before packing up his laptop and walked out of the café. He walked to the café's smoking area when he heard the door lock from the inside and the closed sign was put up. He had definitely overstayed. 
Lighting a cig, he stared towards the night sky as he inhaled a hefty amount of smoke. Everything was in shambles.  Freelance work wasn't cutting it and he hasn't been able to find any good company that would accept him. Politics was a real thorn in the ass. You'd think the press was truly all about revealing the truth and nothing but the truth. But no. In any industry, there's always a festering spot you should avoid. If you don't have the power and backing, you'll be chewed up and spit out into a gnarly mess. That was his current situation. If only he had the power, he could've easily revealed the truth. That was his regret and wish.
As he was ruminating in his thoughts, Angela came out from a side alley in her casual clothes. She nodded to him in acknowledgement and said "Good night and take care on your way home, Mr. Writer."
"You especially, Goddess." He remarked back.
"Thank you for your concern. See you on your next visit then," she said as she turned and walked towards the other way. Even when walking, she exuded an air of grace that would make any man swoon, he thought. 
He finished up his smoke when he heard a sudden yelp towards the direction Angela went and cautiously ran towards the noise. 
"Stop squirming, you damned whore."
He peeked around the corner of an alley to find three men holding Angela down. One of them had clearly let their body become a sad lump of fat. 
"After all the effort I did, you f*cking dare reject me?!" said the guy holding her legs. "Don't you worry, a quickie's the only thing I want."
Angela was obviously pissed and wanted to scream but her mouth was covered with a cloth. "Hey, hurry up. I want a taste of her as well," said one of the men holding her.
"Don't worry about that. We'll mess her up as much as we can." The man then started removing her pants but found it difficult due to her resistance.
He quickly slipped around the corner and charged towards the assailants; starting with a flying kick to the face of the fat man – immediately knocking him down, and followed by a fast straight to the face to the nearest goon – which knocked his head on the wall and caused him to fall unconscious. The last one immediately let go of Angela, stepped back, and drew out a gun.
"Stay back! Don't come near me!" he shouted. 
However, his attempt was futile as his gun arm was parried upwards causing him to misfire and a punch to the gut took him out.
All of it happened in just less than 10 seconds.
"Angela, are you okay?" he asked as he helped her get up.
"I'm fine. Thank you." 
"Let's go out into the street and call the police," he suggested. They walked out of the dark alley into the lit pavement. But as he started to take out his phone, a shout resonated from the dark alley.
"YOU F*CKING DARE GET IN MY WAY?!" 
The man, clearly intoxicated and most likely under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or both charged at him like a wild bull would. Angela was pushed to the side and the charge was unexpectedly strong – pushing the rescuer onto the street. But what came next was the headlights of an incoming truck and the instant realization of impending death. In this world, trying to do good must be the crap choice. That was his last thought as the headlights blinded him and he heard someone whisper to his ear, 
"I'm really sorry for this."

Being heroic is dumb. In a world filled with corruption and power belonging to the rich elite, there is no justice. Rayleigh knew this and it led to his death in the middle of a quiet night street. Yet it wasn't the coldness of death that embraced him. It was cold snow.
