this is just a book im reading and need the audio function! so dont waste time here im already in chapte 55 or something

I was laying on my bed while reading the new chapter of a novel that I followed since two years ago.

It was a story about a destroyed world full of undeads walking, there and here.

A sudden sleepiness attack me and I fell asleep.

And when I woke up, I was in a classroom full of students reviewing their textbooks.

I'm one of those students sitting in their specific sit, reading their textbooks.

Then one day, I know that this is fucked up.



It seems that I feeling weak now that I’m lying down at the corner of an unfamiliar room where I’m right now. I tried to save up more energy just to open my eyes, I succeeded. At last, I was able to travel my gaze around the room. 

I was right, I’m not in the dorm room right now. I cannot say what and where the room I’m in. A wall painted with a red and yellow color combination came into light as I opened my eyes. It was different from my room that is painted blue. 

When my eyes traveled around the room, I saw Mitch and Kylie right by my side, still unconscious. Wrinkles lined in my forehead the moment I saw that both of their hands were tied up behind their back while sleeping soundly. 

I was trying to move my hand to help them but I felt right away that it seems my hands were tied up behind my back, and that gave me a reason to frown. 

What is the meaning of this? Why are my hands are tied up? How we ended up in this kind of situation? 

I slowly close my eyes to recall completely our situation before this. Series of images soon flashed back at the back of my memory. 

Oh yeah, we were at the science laboratory when suddenly men wearing black entered the room. They arrested us as if we did something wrong 

. 

And if I recall correctly, the last person that I saw before I lose my consciousness was no other than our adviser, Mr. Cruz. 

I suddenly felt alarmed when I saw the doorknob of the door near from where the three of us laid down moved. So quickly close my eyes, pretending to be unconscious. 

As the door opened, I immediately heard two voices of men the moment they entered the room. I know both who is the owner of those voices! 

"So, what is your plan to these three students we have caught, Director?” Ano naman ang balak ninyo director sa tatlong nahuli nating estudyante?" I heard our adviser, Mr. Cruz asked. 

"Tell me, William, how much of information they gained about the past?”The director asked back 

"I think, not that much, director." 

"Is that so? Okay, I can't lose my Alpha students anymore, especially this lad." 

Though I’m just pretending to be sleeping, I can feel that one of the fingers of the director is pointed in my direction. 

"But sir, we still don’t know until now what powers he possesses. Or if he does have the ability.” Mr. Cruz said, even our class adviser is not confident about me. 

"Believe me, William, if my daughter says so, then this lad indeed has powers.." The director answered. 

There was a moment of silence before I heard the director spoke again. 

"We are not sure of his background yet, but I may have an idea who are his parents.” He said that surprised me. 

I tried my best to contain my surprise so that I won’t be caught pretending to be asleep. But...all my life, never knew my parents, nor had met them. My grandfather Juls was the only one know and considered as my relative. 

"One of which managed to escape from our hands...that until now, the men are still running after them.” 

My eyes almost grew big from what I have heard. Is it possible...that my parents are still alive? 

"Anyway, I will let you these three into your hands. After you erase their memories, bring them immediately to their separate rooms.” I heard the director instructed Mr. Cruz. 

Wait, he has the ability to erase memories? 

"I will take care of it, director." He answered. 

"Oh, you might need another syringe to knock them out. You may never know, one of them is just pretending to be sleeping.” I heard the director chuckled before he completely went out of the room. Then I heard the door closing. 

Crap! Did the director found out? How come? 

Before I could even protest, I felt a sharp object injeccted in the skin of my arm, my lips twisted because of the pain. 

"I know you're awake this whole time, Cedric." He said that made me muttered a curse. 

"Crap, Mr. Cruz... why...are...you doing.... this?" 

I think these are the last words I said before I completely lost my senses.

*Riiiinnnggggg* 

My eyes opened right away when I heard the never-ending sound of alarm from my noisy alarm clock placed on my side table. I hurriedly sat in my bed and turned it off. 

I felt so weird, I didn’t set my alarm ever since I found out about Mitch’s property. 

*Bzzt bzzt* 

Speaking of him, he chatted me to low down the volume of my alarm because it disturbed his good sleep. 

After I turned off the alarm, I started to ponder some things which made me lost in space. 

Why do I felt that there something's missing? Like I forgot something...or something like that? 

Anyway, I just shrugged my thoughts away and went to the bathroom. I might get late. 

*** 

"Your second grading exam is approaching soon. So it means that you should study well within this week for you to get high grades.” 

Everyone groaned after we heard what our adviser, Mr. Cruz has said. Even I somehow felt being down. I’m so slow when it comes to exams and only Andrew can help me to study before. 

Hays...I let out a deep sigh thinking of that person at the same time. 

"About our exams, I'll need to check first with the director if when we will be allowed to hold our examination in this class. I’ll notify you in our group chat once I received the instructions from him. Is that clear?” 

"Yes sir." We all said in unison. 

"Okay then. You're dismissed." And with that, Mr. Cruz brought his laptop and went out from our classroom. 

After Mr. Cruz left the class, just then Kylie turned to us smiling happily. 

"Let’s form a study group, game?" The young lady said happily. 

"Game." Mitch and I said in chorus.

Matapos We went straight to the library after we ate in the cafeteria. We began to scan some books. When there are times that I can’t understand a certain part of what I’m reading, either Mitch or Kylie will help me right away. 

After all, both of them are on the top in the section, while I’m the one who is not that so- smart- kind of friend. 

All of a sudden, while we were still busy reading textbooks, I suddenly sensed that someone is observing us secretly. But when I turned around to check who it is, there’s no one I can see behind us. 

At first, I thought it just my gut feeling. But when my instinct didn’t stop, I decided to stand up and check outside the library just to be sure. 

"Oh? Where are you going?" Kylie asked me frowning when she saw me stood up without a word. 

 "I’ll just throw these trashes outside.”I reasoned out. 

They just shrugged their shoulders then I returned my attention to the book I’m reading. I slowly lifted my feet and stepped going out, until I completely went out. 

My eyes roamed around, but I can’t see anyone who is hanging around outside. Maybe it’s just my imagination? 

Anyway, I tried to cut it out from my system and went back inside where my friends are. 

Just in time as I sat down, I remembered I haven’t seen my cellphone since morning. I don’t have someone to chat or text with so sometimes I forgot its existence. 

Anyway, I suddenly thought to get my bag and inspect it, but I was puzzled because it’s not there. I was about to give up when I felt that something is bulging in the secret compartment of my bag. 

 I was shocked when I finally found my phone. However, I really don’t have any idea why it was there in the first place. 

I just didn’t mind it anymore and quickly opened my phone. I’m just taking a chance that maybe I have missed some chats in our group chat in the Alpha Section. But to my surprised, as soon as I turned on my phone, the sound recorder showed up...as if I forgot to exit it. 

But why do I need the sound recorder for??? 

"Is there a problem, Cedric?"Kylie asked when her gaze passed in my direction. 

"Nothing," I answered, then went on reading. 

Since I don’t want to disturb my friends, I hurriedly took out my earphones inside my bag and put them on. After putting it on, just then I clicked the play button. 

 "I don’t know what will happen to me, or us, once we discover about the school, today...it’s as if there’s something that wanted to stop us in finding out the truth behind the two missing students on the yearbook in the year 2000. So, if I lost my memory like what happened to Kylie, at least I still have this.” 

Series of flashbacks with me speaking my mind on my phone while laying down in my bed suddenly showed up from my subconscious memory that made my head ached. 

I tried to endure the pain and carried on with listening to this audio recorder. I’m sure I paused it since it jumped to the conversation I and Kylie had. 

"Kylie...you said that you can’t recall what happened in the science lab the other day, right?” I asked from the audio recorder. 

 

“Why don’t you try to remember all the things that happened that day? I know well that we can’t forget our memories so easily... they are stored in the subconscious part of our brain.” 

 

Our memories don’t fade away easily... 

 I immediately stopped playing that audio recorder when the pain in my head was unbearable. Everything that happened last night, which I thought was just part of a bad dream but was all true and real. 

"Cedric?! What is happening to you?” I saw Kylie stood up from her seat towards me. 

 "N-nothing..."I replied, ignoring the pain. 

"I’m okay..." 

"Are you sure about that? You look like someone in pain." She said, looking worried. 

"Yes, I'm perfectly fine," I reassured her. After making sure that I’m fine, she went back to her seat. 

After our quick conversation, none of us talked. I went back from thinking deeply in my seat. If those things happened last night were true... 

I will never let these two be in danger just because of my desire to know the truth about this school...

One day, he suddenly receives a news that he was chosen to be the last member to complete the group. At that moment, he knew that his once boring high school life will soon slowly begin to change.

As soon as Michael closed his eyes, the myriad tiny noises that pervade the background of day-to-day life disappeared, to be replaced by the steady sound of rainfall and occasional rumbling of thunder that had become so familiar. In a way, the abrupt shift reminded him of changing tracks on an audio disc. Initially the sensation was quite jarring, but the process was becoming familiar and the shift was now associating itself with a freedom from constraints and a dedicated focus time. 

Michael quickly got off the replica of his bed and 'stretched' his body, even though he couldn't feel it. Some day he'd figure out what he needed to do to upgrade this space to a place where he could feel his body! Then he could do other things, like train. For now, though, he had plenty of things to read.

"Ok, System - let's retrieve all of the Mathematics textbooks I scanned."

<<Retrieving.>>

Suddenly a giant stack of books appeared on the replica of Michael's reading desk. Combined with the height of the desk, it almost reached to the ceiling! Michael stared at the tower of knowledge, daunted. 

"I think I might have got a bit overboard with the scanning..."

He started to think about other potential approaches. After several minutes of contemplation, he tentatively asked the System a question.

"Since all of these books are essentially virtual anyway, and there must be some duplicate information in there... can we compile these down? Like, Merge them all into one book?"

"Mental Energy?"

"Another Stat I haven't heard about? Are there a lot of those?"

"What's my current Mental Energy?"

"Nevermind. I should try to figure out the underlying aspects of my other stats at some point. For now, I guess... how much of my Mental Energy will compiling the Mathematics book take up?"

"Ninety Percent? That can't be healthy, right?"

<<At 90% expenditure, Subject will experience severe lethargy, nutrition deficiency, and minor physical trauma. With proper nutrition and rest, Subject will recover in approximately 24 hours.>>

"This sounds like... a terrible idea."

<<Subject asked if it was possible, not if System would recommend it.>>

"Well, then, maybe we should put that on hold for the time being. Shoot. Although there's plenty of time til the competition, so maybe holding off for a bit wouldn't hurt. System, are there any ways for me to improve my Mental Energy, or make it cost less? Your statement seemed to imply that one of the reasons it would cost so much is because of my current capabilities?"

Michael sat down on the edge of his bed as he contemplated his options. Maybe it was due to his rather tame upbringing, but the topic of drugs just seemed... too risky. Eventually, he gritted his teeth and decided to go with it. What was a few more missions, after all?

"Ok, System. Can you generate some missions for me for these subjects? Just... don't make them too hard, alright? I need to be able to clear them before the competition."

Michael glumly reviewed the presented information. While he had asked for it, and the System had been quite generous in the rewards, as not only would completing these missions benefit him but he'd also end up with an enhanced Lucid Space and a Mental Enhancement Module, he still felt like he was a gambler throwing good money after bad. He was already concerned about not having enough time, and now he had four more missions to complete!

Still, each of them could be taken one step at a time once he figured out what he would need to do to complete them, and a little more variety would probably be helpful. It was just becoming more and more important that he set himself up a good schedule. He decided that the following evening would be another take-stock session, and he would spend some time coming up with a plan to tackle each of his outstanding missions, as well as constructing a formal routine with the System's help.

And he reminded himself once again that after he completed all of these, he'd be a pretty impressive individual! 

"Maybe I could even catch the eye of a pretty girl or two," he mused. However, when a few of the women he'd encountered in the past week or two popped into his mind, he quickly blushed and cleared his mind. No time for that when there are missions to accomplish!

With that decided, he opted to put the textbooks away for now and go back to his philosophy reading. That would give him an opportunity to calm down and focus on something else. He had the system generate the book again and he lay down on his stomach on the fake bed with the book open in front of him while the sounds of the storm from the recesses of his memories rumbled away outside.

It's the turn of the 21st century in a world not unlike our own. 14 year-old Michael wakes up on the first day of high school with a nosebleed, a splitting headache, and the voice of someone claiming to be him from a number of years in the future in his head!

"We could have been, and we need to be, better... so, congratulations, I'm sorry, and good luck!"

Stuck with a somewhat overbearing voice in his head that seems hell-bent on ruining his life, Michael will have to survive such ordeals as... doing well in school, eating right, exercising and... learning demonic contract law? Stay tuned to find out!

Early in the morning yang Chen got up and went to the bathroom and got ready for school as he lived about 45 minutes away on the bus so he had to hurry up after he was done he got his scattered textbooks laying on his metal desk Yang Chen went to the bus stop and waited.
Nobody these days takes the bus because most of the students live in the dorms but Yang Chen didn't like the idea of spending his time in a cramped room with 2 other dudes that he didn't know so he just opted out.
After he got to the school nothing really happened other than the random stare but that was natural at this point, Yang Chen didn't know the reason why they looked at him differently but he could guess it was because of him being poor and them being rich.
"Yang Chen," Tao Aiko coyishly said, "are you ok Makoku's robot beat you up pretty bad".
"Oh my god, not this woman my day was bad enough now she has to leach on me," Yang Chen thought internally.
"Oh come on, don't be like that," Tao said as she heard what Yang Chen thought.
"If you know what I'm thinking then why don't you give me some space" Yang then replied with clear annoyance.
"You have one of the hottest girls in the entire school seeing if you're ok and you want me to leave, that's not very nice" Tao snarkily said.
"It doesn't matter if it's mean or not it doesn't change the fact that you aren't a holy saint therefore you shouldn't try to be one" Yang Chen replied in a prickly mood.
As neither of them were having it they both just walked away to their next classes and while Yang Chen was walking to his first-period class he noticed several students whispering about him in a way that you could tell they were trying to be sneaky but it was obvious.
He didn't know what they were talking about but not known to him he just pissed off every male in the school at least the ones that already weren't annoyed with a poor person being in a prestigious school like the Chinese institute of robotics and metallurgy.
The school day was anything other than fun. He was already above most of the people in his classes, because he read books like they were nothing, and was his favorite thing to do other than making and building robots.
So he got straight A's, he thought it was pretty funny at the beginning of the school all the teachers thought he was cheating from how good his grades were but just laughed them out the room because they couldn't prove it nor could he believe there were such people who just lived to make other peoples day horrible.
So the day passed quickly and Yang Chen back to his house he went to the garage or his "workshop" where he repairs broken robots he gets from people who don't want to pay that much money but also wanted some repairs although his business was very desolate and nobody showed up after a year he built a customer base of around 100 people.
During the time he repairs the robots he gets he listens to an audio version of his school textbooks about electric work which was his weakest point occasionally he listened to books on how to assemble robots compactly but that was rare as he also was a weak point, his strongest point was Metallurgy.
After he was done texting the owner of telling him a good time to meet to give back his robot he texted back agreeing to the date and the time that they talked about and he just went to a sushi restaurant to eat dinner and after he was done he went home and went to sleep.
After Yang Chen woke up he looked at the clock and noticed that he woke up an hour earlier than he usually would so he would go and do something like repairs or reading but this day he couldn't get up so he just laid there for 30 minutes.
During those 30 minutes, Yang Chen thought about his past. His father was the owner of a small company that did repairs for local the Roboticon battles he was very successful until a 3rd-star ranker came and demanded that he got his robot repaired and when his father declined because nobody was skilled enough to repair it the ranker got furious and threatened to shut down his company.
It was only a week later even the most loyal patrons of the company started to steer away from the family business while this was weird it wasn't major so he just ignored it, however, it was when more and more people started to leave that Yang Chen's father started to realize that something was wrong but there was nothing that he could do and after 6 months nobody came and the company was forced into bankruptcy.
After Yang Chen's father filed for bankruptcy he sold the building and it only became worse and worse from there, he became an alcoholic and spent most of his time in the bars and pubs. It was only after then that Yang Chen's mother left both of them and disappeared. However, her disappearance was only for a month or 2 as when she reappeared she was in the arms of a very similar man.
This was the piece of straw that broke the camel's back and Yang Chen's father was found dead presumably from suicide, Yang Chen only found out who that Ranker was years later it was the oldest child of the Dayeen family.
Shaking from the memory Yang Chen jerked up and got ready for school not wanting to remember that for even 1 more second, while he was getting up you could tell that a tear was flowing down his face.
After he got on the bus he just put his head into his lap until the bus got to the school, and when it did he got off and instead of going to his Metallurgy class he went to the huge auditorium because of the field trip to the Smeltery plant near the school.
There wasn't a reason for them to go to the auditorium other than a bother, so after they discussed the basic rules and other basic things the teachers corralled the students into busses that already were assigned.
There wasn't much to say about the drive there other than the boring view, it got better when we left the city for MT. Ploe but the real view was when we got to the smelting plant, Opposite to what Yang Chen thought there were Sakura trees and other flowers here and he thought this was a joke as he saw nothing that looked like a Smeltery.
And only believed he was there when the driver said we are here everyone looked dumbfounded at the driver and looked like he was an idiot for a while until the teacher said "come on, everyone out".
Everyone hustled out of the bus to see a man covered in soot in had something that looked like a cooking apron on along with a belt with tools in it on his waist everyone looked in surprise until the man yelled "Come on, Time is money, hurry up, follow me".
"Ok, some rules when you enter the smeltery don't touch anything with anything you want to keep, on the off chance that one of you loses something like a finger or toe then we don't care," the man said while walking in front of everyone.
Everyone split into groups to see each place in order The Smeltery which smelts the metal, The purifier which purifies the metal, and the Forger which can be programmed to shape metal into anything which is programmed. There were other machines that the other students went to but Yang Chen couldn't hear over the students so he could guess what they were but didn't know for sure.
When Yang Chen's group got to The Main Smeltery that can melt pretty much everything compared to the smaller-sized smelters dotted around the plant the instructor of the tour was talking.
Boom!!!!.
A very loud sound exploded out above the students and before Yang Chen could even look around after getting on his knees because his ears hurt a loud bang as a very large piece of metal hit the ground Yang Chen only felt some pressure on his back before falling asleep from the pain.

Yang Chen Found some thing that was out of this world, will he live long enough to enjoy it.

Clarissa slowly walked down the stairs, unwilling and unhappy, attempting to cherish every moment she had without another human being interacting with her. The world could never know what she thought of it, the very thought sending her into isolation. She lived in a place where the others are sensitive to words, honesty was something she had to be extremely careful about. Speak too much and paint a target on your head, too less and be forgotten.

Unfortunately, the stairs had run out into a short hall to the door, strewn with wet newspapers and mud. One room on the left emitted moans and gasps when the right spat manic laughter. Clarissa could only shake her head to take away any thought her mind may whip up regarding the audio.

Her feet stepped onto the wet concrete stairs, built cheaply without any color or tile, not even a safety rail. She nearly slipped but managed to grab the wall, saving her from an injury that her pocket would damn her for. Sighing in relief, she continued on the long journey, the time of which she only wanted to extend. She almost didn't want to arrive at the school, to get lost and gain an infinite distance from the school. Just as she thought that and fantasized about how she could have evaded the school entirely and lived without it, she found herself walking onto the pavement of the Anderson public School. The name stirring her stomach whenever she thought of it.

A boy groped a little girl by the entrance, a prefect joined in instead of stopping them. Laughing and cooing as they fondled the young child. She couldn't do anything for these boys were involved with serious and powerful people. Their antics in the fancy schools landed them in rooms next to young Clarissa. She tried to look away from the actions but couldn't manage to not sneak a few peeks of the attempt in her eyes. Clothes falling and tears dripping, moments later; loud crying. Nobody had the will to bat an eye, fearing the powerful and elitists capability to pull a flawless lawsuit on them. 

She quickly made her way to class. To where she could have some refuge.
"Clarissa! Hey!" A girl waved from the side of the classroom. She immediately recognized the voice. Young Maria Elen D'sanchez, Who had her father killed in a airplane accident. She had a rather french looking face and accent, sounding like a pureblood French but promising she was American.  A face that belonged on a millionaires family, wearing a suit Clarissa could only dream of touching . Her mother, being a widow, began to attempt to find more and more men to give her a sustainable and assuring father. Sadly, none of them lasted beside her more than 20 minutes after their first kiss. Marie met Clarissa in the streets as vendors for hand-woven goods and then her mother when she had joined school and couldn't pitch into the so-called "family business". She found her in the same class, same row and on the seat behind hers. A friend that had yet to leave her side

Her mother had also resorted to prostitution. Marie swore it was only for paying off the rent of her room but Clarissa never really believed her.

Marie lightly laughed at her "Hah, When your mother is a drunk, you have a bunch of time to fiddle with the labels of her drinks. Using some of the research papers I borrowed from the elitists, I could make it easier for myself to understand the alcohols"
"You didn't borrow them, did you?" Marie only gave a smirk back as they both laughed. Being with Marie was one of the very few things Clarissa actually looked forward to in her life.

Just at that moment, A boy burst through the door. His hair done sharply and he wore a suit.
"Ah, look at all you imbecile-looking boys and girls. No sense of style, if any, no money to buy it. Yet I hold all the gems in the crown of the English"
Donero Mesker III. She hated calling him that. He headed the clique of the suits and spades of the public school, son of an angry billionare, nobody dared raise his voice against him, fearing the lawsuit and the professional lawyers he had at his fingertips. All it would take was a crying face, a self inflicted pinprick and a false allegation to guilt trip the accused into suicide if the police hadn't arrested them for Juvenile behavior. 

Clarissa grit her teeth, Marie grabbed her shoulder
"Clari, calm down. He's not worth being mad. Come, before you do anything that you regret later"
She found sense in her words, though her hands wanted to dig into his jaw. She realized, rather than bodily power, he had the power in his pocket to influence anyone by her side. 

Clarissa felt uneasy as she sat down on her seat, while the teacher entered class, attempting to calm her anger at the headache of a boy who entered minutes ago. 

If only she had the power to get back at him. If only

"Calm down Clarissa...He'll stay more powerful than you no matter what you do" She thought as she pulled out her textbooks.

After hearing the explanation of last nights events I still wasn't convinced. It was simply too wild to believe. The church of Helios attacked us with a dozen men. Everyone is saying that I insisted on challenging them to a round of fistfights.

According to eyewitness accounts, I pummeled the unsuspecting attackers, catching the mages unaware and off-guard with my family fighting technique. Apparently only a very small minority of niche mages trained their physical bodies.

With the drunk and frenzied crowd egging me on, I captured the attackers, their pegasi, and the leaders Golden Sun Tiger. Well that certainly explained the tiger's sudden appearance and loyalty. I didn't feel too bad either, as this was the second unprovoked attack they'd launched at me.

Continuing on throughout the night was even more drinking, as I was taught how do something called a 'cask stand', which I found was an alternate world version of a keg stand. A few drinking games later I spotted heading off with two female Rangers.

While I was preoccupied a man from the Necromantic alliance stopped by the party. He was ordered to make contact and extend an invitation, letting us know that their 'door was always open'. They had noticed the church's attacks against me, decrying their narrow mindset that only saw the evil in necromancy.

Several hours later I returned the party to continue drinking. Nothing else happened for the remainder of the party. A few of us went outside to witness the sunrise. That must have been where I passed out.

Everything fit together with the bits of audio and visual I'd gotten from the system. With the accounts settled, both for the party and business, we all enjoyed a nice breakfast together in the dining hall.

Having waited patiently, the black hooded necromancer was able to hand deliver the items he brought. Several basic necromantic textbooks and reference books were retrieved from a spatial ring, along with a small silver hand-mirror.

"These should answer any questions you have about basic theory, and if you should ever need anything more.. advanced.. please don't hesitate to reach out with the mirror."

"So you're just giving these to me? Free of charge?"

"Not everyone is after coin, merchant Zanir... and not everything is as it always seems. Our organization places great value on talented youths.. especially those with talent of your caliber. Remember to contact us if you ever need anything!"

With that the mysteriously hooded necromancer left the dining hall. Absorbing them into the system, there were minimal prompts for the books, followed by information for the mirror.

Wow, according to the system they were just regular items. After double checking for curses and traps, I wondered if maybe I misjudged the necromancers. I was sure they'd have put some kind of tracking device on them to keep tabs on my position, but they were clean.

With breakfast coming to an end, everyone said their goodbyes. The Rangers had a lot of new equipment to prepare and ship out to their various sectors, regions and teams. Much needed food and medicine would be sent to the brave Rangers who needed it.

All of the transactions had been completed for now. The tents and everything else had finally been cleaned up. My staff, family, and friends all headed into the spatial world leaving only myself, Reed, and Xander outside.

"Alright, you're sure that you've got everything?"

"Yeah I think so, besides, I can come back anytime after you teach me about these portals right?"

"Sure, you'll be able to visit anywhere you've been before! Now, are you both ready?"

Nodding to confirm, Xander began to activate a portal that would return us and the Kingsguard to the royal capital, Ishtar, also known as the great golden jewel. Known for it's high quality magical grain, it was said that the wheat in the fields resembled a golden sea when the breeze blew through them.

Twenty minutes later, we were all just outside the royal capital city itself. Looking over at the city, the first thing that impressed me was the sheer size of it. No wonder they called our area the 'back country'.

Massive, intimidating outer walls marked the entrance to the city itself, well at least into the outer district. Looking further inland, I could see a slightly higher set of walls blocking off what must be the inner city district where the nobles lived. Beyond that were the highest walls in the kingdom, which deterred any uninvited guests from entering the royal palace grounds.

Outside the entryway, several miles of tents and shacks had been erected by the poorest citizens. Sprawling out into the nearby forests, they'd spawned into several sub-cities of their own, living under the shade and protection of the nearby kingdom walls.

Now this was a proper town! Due to the size and location there were several industries located here. Everything from a busy port to an open air market could be found in the commercial district of the city. They even had an auction house, which was called the Golden Treasure pavilion.

"C'mon kid, let's go introduce you to the King. I'll give you the full tour tomorrow, alright?"

"Alright Xander, I'll be counting on you to show me the best spots around town"

Xander and I continued to chat as we followed behind captain Marshall and the Kingsguard. Hopefully King Reginald the second wouldn't be too mad that I kidnapped the baron, he did attack my family after all, and either way I needed to clear this up with him.

Taaliyah kept it in her mind. She warned Derek about it. The final exams were fast approaching. The subjects were completed one by one. Home room teacher Dalia wished the students good luch and kept giving them practice sheets to study well before the exams. Rest of the subject teachers did the same too. Especially math. 
Taaliyah was exhausted. Her father has been being very strict with her ever since after the half yearly progress report signing. She was reminded of the chilling experience. 
"Taaliyah is a cheerful and playful child, but the grade card is not upto the exceptions. She has no interest in studies or getting into good college its looks like. Why? Are you going to marry her off after school?" Teacher asked Zahir. 
"No, no, we give education to girls, marriage comes only later," Zahir cleared the family image. 
"You are lucky Taaliyah make use of the attitude and study well next time, you went out of top 15 this time," Yes her rank dropped down to 19. And it was insulting to her father.
"How dare you? Is going to a top school fun? Are you going to play, have fun and come back home everybody, I an working like hell to feed you, dress you and send you to good school because I want to see the results, not turn into disappointment like Nara, go to a university, take a good course, graduate and get a good job, is it that hard for you girls to do.  Your cousin quit after school and help their family, marry and build the family, what the hell do you want to do? Become like them?" Zahir blasted Taaliyah throwing the report card away the moment he got back home.
Taaliyah shook herself out of the nasty memory and opened her science textbooks. Everything looked familiar but not good. She cried over it and turned ths study lamp off. She lost the mood instantly. She looked at her bed, and racks in the room. Teddy bears, soft toys, her wardrobe, the book shelf, everything looked good. She slowly slid under the blanket and maid down. It was 10 pm, she decided to sleep and skip studying. Then she looked at the chemistry practice worksheet again. Taaliyah rolled her eyes and sat back on the chair again. she turned the lights on began to work them out. And that's when she saw a message beep in the cellphone. She took them and looked back at the door. It looked like her parents are already asleep. Taaliyah flashed a smile and replied to the blank text.
"Hey Derek. Still not asleep?" 
"No,"
"Me too,"
"I figured it. What are you doing?" he asked.
"Chemistry practice sheet," 
"I finished it, it was easy," 
"Hmm its not bad, just a little confusing," she sent.
"I will help you," sent he. He was alone sitting outside in the car porch, to get some fresh air after an argument with his mother before she drifted off to sleep. He closed the door slowly without making noise and walked back to the room, he locked the door and felt excited. he turned the bedside lamp on and took out his chemistry practice sheet. He taught them difficult one slowly. But the smiles were pasted on the face from the beginning to end. "Call?" he asked. 
"No, just text," she said. 
"Audio?" he asked.
"Yes," he began to send voice messages. 10 pm turned 11 pm but the two had no track of time. He texted about silly stuff happened among the boys how they are going to split into teams during the game times and physical education period while Taaliyah talked to him about her family and sister. 
"Grand mother is so obsessed with patriarchal rules," Derek sent her.
"She is. Always saying don't do this, don't do that, keep the legs down, wear lengthy lose clothes, put on veils, cover your head, treat men good, respect elders blah blah, am bored," she texted.
Derek laughed. "Be good at home, be whatever at school, I will be there to cover you,"
"Oh yeah! Lol! Thanks,"
"I am thinking of taking the class Min Ah suggested," Taaliyah suddenly felt her heart drop.
"Oh, it's good, you should try," she convinced herself and wanted good things for him. 
"Is it okay?" he asked her permission. She went shocked. 
'Is he really asking me whether he should go or not?' she got up from the chair. She fell on the bed and giggled and buried her head in the pillow. 
She got up and replied him. "Of course you should go, music is what you love the most, if you wish to become an idol trainee you should have advantage and get selected faster, you always told me that," 
"Hmm.. yes," He replied. "Thank you,"
"Thank you?" she asked him.
"You know, just," he said. "For everything," Taaliyah felt warm and smiled. 
"Then I should thank you too,"
"For what?" he asked back.
"For everything, and being there," she kept the phone away and laid back down. Taaliyah slowly drifted off to sleep. She kept deleting the messages instantly but she forgot to delete the last few messages. Hers and his. Derek had the same smile and and he messaged her one more time  before he melt the phone away. "Goodnight, TC," 
She was asleep already and it was 12 at night. This was the first time they had stayed up talking to each other. A memorable one, nothing much, all silly but memorable enough since it was the first. Taaliyah slept well that night. Knowing that he is the same and has nit changed much. 
Taaliyah dressed up the next day. She put on the eye liner and tinted lip balm. A Strawberry flavoured one. When she finished dressing up, she went to get Nihala to tie her hair. Breakfast was ready. Vermicelli and chicken. Taaliyah's favourite. "Keep alot for lunch or I will starve," she said to her mother.
"I know I know, there are two tiffin box," Nihala said to her daughter and fed her. 
Around 9 am Taaliyah reached the school dropped off by her father and she ran to class. Suddenly she stopped running and her eyes grew wide. "Holyshit," she said. She remembered then. "The phone," she recalled. "I did not delete the chat,"
At the same time, Nihala walked into Taaliyah's room and took the phone. There were many message notifications. She opened them and walked back to kitchen to turn the pressure cooker off.
Taaliyah walked into the class. "Dereeeek," she called him.

"Derek no," she whispered but it did not stop him, standing behind the half shut door in the 8th grade classroom after school hours. Taaliyah could hear people outside, still walking. But she got lost, in his arms, as he deepened his kiss. She held on to his shirt tight.

A pale-faced woman with an expensive-looking outfit was sitting on the floor when they entered the consultation room.
The person beside her was behaving decently, which indicated that they were not here to deliberately cause trouble. Perhaps the woman had lost confidence in life and was having a mental breakdown in the consultation room.
Staring at the female patient on the floor, Zheng Ren was dumbfounded when he noticed the hovering words on the upper right corner of his vision.

Absent-minded and dejected, the weeping patient ignored him and continued to lean against the wall.
