   Rica rushes to see what Melanie is pointing at. She glances at the long lines of pictures of her mother's family. They were four boys and one girl,  her mom the eldest.  Her grandparents both died in a same year when she was 9. She looks up and see the framed three by six picture hanging on the wall.  She smiled.  It was a family picture during one of their visits, when his dad still alive.  
   "Mom told me they never liked him when they were still on college", Rica said pertaining to his father.  
   Melanie was confused. "Why?"
   Rica walks near the other pictures standing above a cabinet,  holding one after another.  "You see, mom's family is a family of professionals.  All of them are scientifically  inclined.  Uncle Rob is an engineer and scientist." 
   She lifts the other frame. "Uncle John,  Uncle Sean, and Uncle Dean are doctors.  Mom is a chemist. They don't see her marrying a non-science related person.  They thought Dad wouldn't fit in." 
   "Then how come they married?"
    "They ran away,  and came back when they have me.  Old Pop still furious but they have no choice. Until Dad became famous with his band,  and this family started to like him. Mom always said that he brought music to their boring lives."
   Melanie felt a piece of responsibility has been put on her shoulder. She turns her sight of the guitar case leaning on the corner. "You really need to get that fix."

  As Rica gets out of the passenger seat,  she quickly glances at the seven feet cabin surrounded by giant red woods. A big wooden door is ajar,  and clearly displayed a busy woodcutting machines that surrounds the whole shops with noise.  
   Melanie signals Rica to get the guitar at the trunk. Both were amazed as they make their way to the shop. Bodies of guitars were aligned to the pathway.  The smell of wood cuttings give aromas to the early afternoon. Every step they take is a noise of dried leaves.  Crunchy. 
   They look at each other.  This is it. Rica reaches for the steel doorknob. 
   "Who are you?" 
    Both turn their back to the door as they face a shot gun pointed at them.  Melanie felt a quick panic as she hides herself behind Rica and hold tightly to the hard case of the guitar.  
   Rica holds her breath. "We're looking for a guitar maker around."  She was surprised that the voice is from a 6 foot guy at their age. 
   "If you're here to buy this shop I told you before we're not interested!" he shouted.  He grasps firmly to the gun and ready to fire.  
   "Hey we're not here to buy this one". Hell were teens can't you see?  Rica said to herself.  "We're looking for a guitar..  " she turns to frightened Melanie. "What do you call that?  Lu..."
"Lu---" Melanie panics. 
"A luthier."

   The two girls almost jump as a low baritone voice from the door behind them completes the word they have been searching into their heads. An old bearded man came out of the door,  full of wood cuttings on his grey apron and a big pair of goggles. He removes his leather gloves and revealed a scar in his right hand.  
  "Julian,  put that gun down, you fool." he commanded.  Julian,  the one they encountered first was reluctant but still obeyed.  "Come inside" the old man said as he opens the doors wide.  
   The frightened girls exhaled and hold their chests. Rica still locks her eyes with Julian. His khaki pants matches his white Nike shirt. His short manly hair and fair complexion matches Rica's El hombre de mis suenos --- man of her dreams.  She suddenly forgot that this Julian almost got them killed.  
   They entered the wide guitar shop full of woods and acoustic guitars hanging on the walls.  Two wood saws are still running. Two men are busy inspecting the pile of rosewoods, signing them with marks of famous guitar seller. Rica thought they also ship guitars. 
   The man signalled them to sit down around the square wooden table.  They followed. 
   "I'm sorry for Julian. " He smiled and looks at the door where Julian still standing. "This property is up for grab now.  He still can't accept that we have filed for bankruptcy". The two girls nodded. Rica personally felt guilty. 
   "What can I do for you two?" The man asks.  
   Rica quickly puts the guitar case on the table.  She opens it and bears a destroyed Martin guitar.  She gently gets the guitaras it's strings recoil and pieces of woods fall back to the case.  Rica lifts her head to the man.  He was shock. 
   "That's the... ---" he struggled to find words.  His voice trembled. "I know that guitar." 
   The two look at each other.  They were in disbelief. 
   "It's Robert's D-52." 
    "How do you know that?" Rica was puzzled.

We go back in the metro station and have a usual evening. We're just getting ready to go to sleep. I lay on the bench, beside Clara and close my eyes. Tomorrow would be a great day. I was obviously stressed about my business proposition, because the man I saw last time didn't look very sure about my talent. I didn't tell Clara exactly why I was absent for so long two weeks ago. I had to sleep near the guitar shop and talent recruiter. Four nights after, I was chosen. Tomorrow would be the day while which I would now if I'd have to stay on the streets for long. After the agent recruited you, it didn't seem long before you got a job. I went to sleep.

I woke Clara up before going to the appointment. It wasn't far away from our usual spot. I walked in direction of the building I could see, now. I tried to calm myself down, but how is it possible to calm down when your possibility of good life is a stake? It's practically impossible. I pulled the door and came in. I didn't have the money to buy a guitar, obviously, but the man let me borrow his last time. A tall blond-haired woman came in an called my name.


"You can follow me." she said, looking at the couple people in the waiting room.


We entered a room full of guitars and the man got me one.



"You probably remember Nick. The manager and agent of the store." the woman asked.



We smiled at each other and shook hands. He gave me his guitar and asked me to do some basic accords on the guitar. I learned how to make them when I was seven years old. Then he asked me to sing too. I loved singing. My parents, before they died, always said I had it in my blood. The man seemed impressed by my capacities. He made me a sign to stop me.



"I'm not going to lie, Andy. How you sing and play is amazing. It looks so easy to do both at the same time. Some great musicians take years to get it right, but you did it just now. So here's what I'm going to make you do. I'm going to give you a partition and I want you to learn it by heart with the guitar in three weeks. Then I'll see you here at seven in the morning for an appointment. Okay?" he asked


"But, I don't have a guitar. I don't have money for it." I said. 


I told him about my economic precarious conditions. I thought I made it clear.



"Yes, you have a guitar." he said, with a convinced voice.

"What? That's your guitar. I can't accept it." I gave him the guitar back.




"I insist. You know, all those guitars are mine." he said pointing all around the store.



"Are you sure? I don't want to..." I asked.



"Yes I'm sure. Take it and tell Catherine I gave it to you." he said.



"Okay then. Thank you so much. See you in three weeks." I smiled and left.



I went back in the waiting room and told Catherine.



"Nick told me to tell you he gave me his guitar." I looked at her.



"So you must be Andy?" she asked.



"Yes..." I said hesitantly.



"Then take this. Nick told me it'd be nice from us to help you. Get in the building next door and turn two times to your right. There're showers there." she smiled at me and gave me a little card.



"But... That's a gym card?" I asked.


She made an agreeing sign with her head.



"Thank you for having confidence in me. It's so nice from you." I told her before going.



I opened the door but turned back and asked her:


"Are Nick and you..." I started.


"Yes, of course. He's my husband since twelve years now." she smiled and laughed a little.



I went out, walked a little and pulled the gym door. I asked the receptionist for shampoo and soap and told me it was five bucks. I had enough. She gave it to me and I did the walk Catherine told me to do. Two time to the right. I found the showers and took a long one. It had been so long I couldn't take one. I washed my hair and smelled good for the first time in years.

I live on the street. I have no house and no job. My life is so hard. I can't take it no more. But I can make this change. I might be on the street, but I have a good physical condition, walking all day. The only thing I do with the money I collect from charity is to play tennis. If I can have a career in that, I might get a house and  do something I love.

Later that night, we're sitting on the floor of our room. Me and Noah were doing our best to count the money we got from our little performance. They were also playing guitars and singing like they used to do in the past.
