First novel lol. Doing this cause I’m bored

I love colors. I'll say it over and over again: I love colors! They're beautiful. They're stimulating. Sometimes I even think they're magical. I love everything about them, from the power they have to evoke emotions to the subtle yet distinct differences they make in a work of art. But my favorite thing about colors is their symbolism, the way they can be used to hide secrets and hint at details of a bigger picture without drawing focus away from the story at hand.

It's simple enough to use colors in visual art, but what about in writing? Challenging as it may seem, I believe it is possible to create symbolism with words, such as when describing color schemes of character outfits and settings. Color symbolism has fascinated me for as long as I can remember, and while it would take an entire book (or series of books) to get into it all, I'd like to at least scratch the surface today with some of the basics I've picked up throughout my experience researching and implementing meaningful colors in my stories. You may want to consider these tips the next time you set a scene; they can help add a vivid new layer to your story! Enjoy!
Red – Red is a bold and passionate color, often symbolizing such strong ideas and images as courage, fire, power, and violence. It's a color that demands attention, which is why it's commonly used to signify danger. Use red for passionate or aggressive characters, or for any sort of intense scene, whether it's the heat of love or the violence of war.

￼Orange – Not quite passionate and not quite joyful, orange is a middle ground between red and yellow. It symbolizes energy and creativity, and is used in psychology to stimulate enthusiasm and determination. Use orange for adventurous or creative characters, or when you want to paint some vibrant warmth into a scene.

￼Yellow – Yellow is the two-sided coin of colors. On the one hand, it symbolizes happiness, optimism, sunshine, and friendship. On the other hand, it can also stand for cowardice, illness, hazard, and deceit. Golden shades represent wealth and luxury. Use yellow when you want to add hints of joy or caution to a scene. For the best effect, I recommend using yellow ambiguously, such as for characters who seem jubilant and optimistic on the outside but who are fearful or deceitful on the inside.

￼Green – Think of green and you're sure to picture beautiful scenes of nature, complete with lush vegetation as far as the eye can see. Indeed, green is the color of the environment, and it represents such ideas as youth, fertility, health, and rebirth. Abstractly, it also symbolizes jealousy and good luck. Use green for characters associated with natural themes such as environmentalism or the practice of healing, or to hint at fortune or envy in relationships.

￼Blue – Blue is my favorite color because it represents all my favorite things. It's a color that symbolizes intelligence, tranquility, trust, and loyalty. In nature, it's associated with the sky and the sea, and different shades from turquoise to navy can be used to signify sophistication, knowledge, and integrity. Use blue for characters who are more intellectual than emotional, and for settings fitting an atmosphere of calm and authority.

￼Purple – Purple is the color of royalty, and has long represented such themes as nobility, wisdom, honor, and extravagance. Being a relatively rare color in nature, it is often associated with mystery and magic. Lighter shades such as lavender also convey grace and elegance. Use purple as a motif for regal or arrogant characters, mysterious settings, and storylines brimming with fantasy.

￼Pink – A soft complement to the bold red, pink is the color that most famously signifies love and romance. Strongly associated with femininity, it represents tenderness, caring, and acceptance. I myself tend to associate the color pink with flowers. Use pink to add a soothing or feminine quality to a scene, or to signify elements of a romantic subplot.

￼Brown – Brown is well known as an earth tone, and as such tends to represent stability. Common ideas associated with the color brown include simplicity, comfort, and endurance. Use brown when you want to convey a sense of plainness or tenacity in a scene without having to resort to the blatant dullness of gray.

￼Gray – The dull middle ground between white and black, gray is most commonly associated with boredom and depression. On the positive side, it also stands for security, modesty, practicality, and reliability. Use gray for conservative characters or when you want to create a colorless air for a particular setting.

￼White – White is the international color of peace, and is often regarded as a symbol of light, purity, and faith. Some even go as far as to associate it with perfection. Note that white takes on a different meaning in Eastern cultures, where it's associated with death and mourning. Use white when you want to convey innocence in your characters and cleanliness in your settings, or when you want to create strong religious symbolism in your scenes.

￼Black – The exact opposite of white, black represents everything that its counterpart doesn't. Darkness, evil, and death are themes commonly associated with black, but it can also stand for austerity, formality, style, and sexuality. Arguably the most powerful color of all, black has a long history of symbolizing strongly opposed ideas on the spectrum of good and evil. Use black to convey depth in your characters or to add dark themes to a scene. For best results, combine it with other colors to create interesting contrasts of ideas in your stories.

One by one, the monsters were disintegrated as they were reduced into countless of light particles.
Black lines surged toward Lin Sheng like a spider web and into his chest.
Lin Sheng's expression stayed the same, as he deftly moved within the charging horde, and his every move seems very rudimentary. Yet, when chained into a combo, it was a highly accurate and efficient series of attacks, powerful yet not wasteful.
Just as Lin Sheng was slaughtering the surge of monsters, about a thousand meters away, above a river-spanning bridge, a thin, lanky man stood upon it with a gray jacket and a round hat. A cigarette was lit in his mouth as he looked at Lin Sheng in the distance.
"Interesting, a little bug could actually harm the Shades." The man opened his mouth, revealing a row of black, sharp fangs.
"Do we kill him?" Beside him was a muscular lady with dark skin and white hair, not unlike a panther. She had a green tattoo on the side of her face, seemingly a symbol.
"I'm curious, what did that guy use to kill the Shades?"
"Then, let's capture him to investigate. He's not a Four-winged Oppressor. There won't be much trouble if we take him. What are you afraid of? the dark-skinned lady said impatiently.
The man in the jacket smiled without a word.
After demurring for a moment, he spoke again.
"Seems like a student with some rather interesting secrets. Forget it, kill him. Don't let him affect our plans."
"One minute." The lady stomped her feet as she crossed her fingers and stretched, letting out a crisp crack.
"Stamping out the problem."
She took big strides toward Lin Sheng.
...
As strands upon strands of black lines entering his mind, even as weathered as Lin Sheng was at this, he still at times could not withstand the impact of the information torrent.
This impact was just too great.
While every black line was just a shred of memories, but it could slowly stack up onto a veritable tide.
In the short span of ten minutes, he had already killed about a hundred of the monsters and absorbed a considerable number of souls.
"I'll take back what I've said." Lin Sheng stared coldly at the endless horde of monsters.
"These kinds of trash mobs are not that bad if they come in these numbers."
Lin Sheng steadied his foot, as he straightened his hand into a blade. He then dashed out and charged into the oncoming horde.
The gruesome cacophony of blades sinking into flesh rang out as the new wave of monsters were all taken out in less than two minutes.
Each and every one of the monsters turned into light particles as strands of black lines entered his chest.
Without him noticing, the souls that he expended during the purification meditation earlier had already been replenished, with extras to boot.
*Bam!*
The last portly elder monster's neck was snapped by Lin Sheng's fist. It fell to the ground and dissipated into light particles.
Lin Sheng shook his arm and went on his way.
Further ahead was a crossroad, and a right turn later, it was the entrance to the Soul Fortress. A deserted two-story building.
He had just taken a few steps forward before he stopped and looked ahead.
"There…"
Lin Sheng frowned as he quickly retracted the holy power on his body and took the appearance of a commoner as he slowly headed to the Soul Fortress and disappearing into the night.
About a hundred meters ahead of Lin Sheng, a panther-like dark-skinned woman slowly made her way out of the alley and looked at the direction Lin Sheng went.
"Count yourself lucky, kid."
She snorted as she turned in another direction. There was a coldness in her eyes as she retreated back to the direction she had come from.
Barely half a minute after the two left, two powerful men with green dark power aura all over them suddenly appeared at the area where Lin Sheng had just massacred the monsters.
"The energy surge earlier…someone fought here," one of the men said.
"That aside, the weird fluctuations we detected last time… there's a lot of them. They were weak, but once their numbers increased, their traces became obvious as well," the other man said.
"Let's report this upwards."
"Yeah."
...
The life in the Soul Fortress was even more fruitful than Lin Sheng had expected.
Going to class every day, training the control of his dark powers, going into the dream to hunt the black hawks, then going out at times to relax, to go online, to eat some nice good. If he was lucky he would run into those monsters.
Running into them was probably when Lin Sheng felt the best.
As there were not many opportunities to absorb so many souls in the real world. A rare opportunity indeed...
And a week passed by.
Finally, there were new changes to Lin Sheng's dream.
*Crack.*
Lin Sheng stretched his hands out to break the protruding branch and tossed it aside. Ahead of him was a massive gray cliff face, which filled his entire field of vision.
There were all sorts of dark holes on the cliff face, and the giant hawks would fly in and out of the holes.
The sky was gray as if meshing together with the gray cliff face. Just by a glance alone, he could not tell one from another.
"Finally something new. Aside from killing the hawks and absorbing their soul, there was literally nothing else."
Lin Sheng was also relieved. A week's time was long enough, and he was worried that the dream would end automatically, just like the Fay Vault earlier.
So finding the other two secret techniques was now of prime importance.
But even as he tried to increase the speed of his search, it took him a week to even find this unique place.
"Hopefully this won't disappoint me."
Lin Sheng looked at the dozens of hawks flying above as he approached the cliff face.
Oddly enough, the closer he got to the cliff, the black hawks in the air had disappeared without him knowing.
Lin Sheng slowed down his pace as he went into full alert, before taking one step after another in his approach.
The hawk's nest on the cliff face were like dark, sinister eyes that stared at him as he got close.
And got close he did, to the sturdy gray stone wall.
"Hmmm?"
Only after getting close did he noticed a hidden Z shaped path within the cliff hall.
As the path was of the same shade, with stone wall piling up high, plus its tiny entrance made it hard to detect at first glance.
Lin Sheng recomposed himself, as he entered the path.
Upon entering it, it was nothing but tall, sky-scraping walls. There was nary a piece of green on the wall, it was barren of any life.
Lin Sheng slowly made his way along the pathway, and after some distance, he finally reached a turn.
He slowed down and looked up. At the exit of the path, a grayish-black sculpture the size of two-story buildings blocked the path.
It was a black hawk's head, a very large head.
The base of the sculpture seemed to be made out of gemstones similar to dark green diamonds. It was clear and very strong with some nondescript patterns around it.
The head of the black hawks Lin Sheng had killed was no different from that sculpture. They were identical, aside from the size difference. As even if all of the hawks were to be added together, they were nowhere close to the size of the sculpture.


This is a story of an ordinary boy gaining unusual powers from his nightmares... It all started when Lin Sheng experienced something strange on what he thought was just another normal day. He begins to have recurring dreams that lead him on an incredible journey of discovery as he encounters spine-chilling monsters and elusive secrets.

Seojoon walked past the crowd of players virtually unhindered. After seeing the first guy get decapitated, no one wanted to end up with the same fate.

Seojoon gave a glance at the sword that was nestled on his hip. Without the sword, he reckoned that he would have been pummeled to death by a mob. But the most important thing was that he had succeeded in obtaining his class quest.

"Show quests."

Once he killed a crazy dog and ten rabbits, he would finish two quests in one go and would be able to learn swordsmanship.

As he approached the gates again, he saw Mike and Zie guarding the gate as usual. "Yo, did you get the class quest?"

"Yep, thanks to you, I didn't have to wait in line."

"It was nothing. So what did you decide on becoming?"

"I'm becoming a swordsman."

Zie nodded his head in approval. "Smart choice. Now you will be able to learn from the captain after you finish your quest and gain a class."

Seojoon waved goodbye at the soldiers and made his way outside the gate when he paused and turned around. "Do you happen to know where I can find Cr-"

"You can find a crazy dog after killing a few rabbits. They are attracted to the blood you see," quickly answered Mike before Seojoon could finish his sentence.

"How did you-"

"Know? Well, both Mike and I have taken the swordsman class quest already. Now hurry up and go kill them beasts. The rabbits will be easy and once again watch out for crazy dogs."

Seojoon bowed and headed off into the field. Almost instantly, he saw a rabbit dart past his legs and run away. Without wasting a moment, Seojoon immediately chased after it. The rabbits had a horrible health pool and would die after one full swing from his sword, however, the problem was that they were very fast. Due to their fast agility, they were able to outrun and outmaneuver Seojoon and the countless of other players on the field. Seojoon even considered the rabbits to be more of a pain than the slimes.

However, now that he had increased his agility, he was able to catch the rabbits with ease. Seojoon grabbed the struggling rabbit before drawing his sword and running it through the rabbit. The tiny little creature let out a soft whimper before exploding into light.

One down, nine to go.

After slaying his seventh rabbit, Seojoon heard a low snarl. Before he could react, however, he felt a dull sense of pain in his leg and fell down.

When Seojoon recovered from the shock, he saw that there was a big gray animal sinking its jaws into his calf. It looked like a stray German Shepard that hadn't been cleaned in ages and when Seojoon stared into the animal's eyes, there was a crazed look to them, making them seem feral and insane.

Crazed dog.... what a fitting name.

Before the crazy dog could do more damage, Seojoon kicked the dog in the snout, forcing it off his leg and quickly got back up.

Seojoon's eyes went wide with shock. A single bite from the dog shaved away a fifth of his total health and even slowed him down. If he did not pay attention to the dog's attacks, he would die.

Seojoon raised his sword and pointed it towards the dog and heightened his guard toward the dog. The two of them then did a staredown as they each waited for the other person to move.

The dog was the first one to break the standstill as it lunged towards Seojoon's throat. He hastily raised his sword to intercept the dog when the dog suddenly ducked beneath his blade and tore into his side.

This time, instead of kicking the dog away, Seojoon grabbed his sword with both hands and drove it downwards into the dog who was still biting down onto the side of his stomach.

The blade struck true this time and penetrated through the back of the dog, causing it to let out a quick yelp. before going limp.

After the dog had exploded into light, Seojoon fell onto the floor while breathing heavily. After a moment or so, he broke out into laughter. "I just almost died."

The thrill of fighting against the crazy dog was so exhilarating that Seojoon could still see the crazy eyes of the dog even after it had perished. His heart was beating at an incredible pace and he felt alive. Although it was a relatively short battle, it was still immensely satisfying.

It was almost comparable to when he finished a particularly good book series such as Harry Potter or Eragon. In fact, the only reason why he enjoyed reading books so much in the first place was because of the feeling he got when he got engrossed in the story. The feeling when he became the character and could imagine and see the magical world in the eyes of the characters. To visualize an entire battle, 

However, in the game, he did not need to imagine.

If he becomes stronger.... would he be able to experience even more thrilling battles?

Seojoon closed his eyes as he could almost see himself in a battle, slaying down monsters with a swing of his blade. A feeling of ecstasy washed over him and got him to stand up and open his eyes. His eyes immediately zeroed in on a lonely defenseless rabbit a few meters away from him.

".... let's finish this quest quickly. I can't wait to learn swordsmanship."

Seojoon raised his sword and charged at the little rabbit with a wild smile on his face. For the first time in a while, he was enjoying something other than a book.

A teacher dies and goes back in time. With his pre learned knowledge, he decides that he no longer needs to study and gives the newest high tech virtual reality game a try.

He becomes a swordsman but his thirst for reading carries onto his in game life? How far will he go, and what will happen in his daily life? Will he tell the world who he is? Or will he keep his identity as a secret?

Save for Hao Ren and a few others, who were not affected by innate hostility, the demon hunters and Hesperides had communicated with each other, and all found that they all had lost their vigilance at the same time while in the hall.
Or more specifically, everyone lost their innate hostility at the same time.
The younger generation of demon hunters and otherworldlings had experienced the weakening of innate hostility since a few months ago, but this phenomenon did not affect the ancients like Hasse and Hesperides due to their bloodlines. The innate hostility of both of them had also gone without them realizing it, and it was at that moment that the Shades of Chaos emerged.
For this reason, it was hard not to link both incidents together.
Hao Ren scratched his chin. "Among the two, which one is the cause? Was it that the lack of vigilance had led to the appearance of the Shades of Chaos, or that the activity of the Shades of Chaos had caused you all losing your innate hostility?"
"It's the nature of the Shades of Chaos to cause conflict and disorder, not suppress them. So we can rule out the second scenario," Vivian said, shaking her head. "As for the first scenario, though there is no obvious contradiction, why did the innate hostility of everyone disappear suddenly in the first place?"
Hesperides glanced at Hasse with a somber look on her face. "When you look at me right now, do you feel like killing me?" she asked.
There were not many expressions on Hasse's face. "No, I don't," he replied.
"Well, I do," Hesperides said with her arms crossed, "but it has nothing to do with the innate hostility. It's just that I don't like your face," she said.
"It seems that everyone has lost the innate hostility," Vivian said, her eyes scanning the other demon hunters, who looked confused and uncomfortable. Though without the innate hostility they were less nervous before Hesperides and Vivian, they somehow felt it weird. The unnatural feeling was understandable. They had been living with the innate ability for all their lives; it had become as natural as breathing. Vivian only shook her head. "It all happened in the critical juncture. Anyway, I think the loss of the hostile instinct is related to the activity the Shades of Chaos. Those shadows attack the mind; especially when everyone has no vigilance."
Her theory sounded plausible, but there was still no explanation as to why the hostility instinct of everyone disappeared spontaneously. The only reason they could think of was that there was something in the hall.
"Let's get back in and check it out," Hasse said. "There may be something in the hall that is capable of eliminating the hostile instincts."
They immediately returned to the hall. Hasse said to White Flame, "Contact Teuton with your magic and ask him about their situation. Tell him what has happened here and warn him about the Shades of Chaos."
The hall remained the same as before. The exorcism ritual had not changed the hall physically, and it only affected the Shades of Chaos which were shadows on the object surface. As the dust had settled, scattered furniture and dead bodies were the only things left inside. A faint white light, which carried a hint of sacred aura, was lingering in the air. The investigators began searching around for anything that might have residue of magic or ritual, while Hasse stood in the center of the hall, looking up thoughtfully at the hole on the dome.
Hao Ren went over and asked Hasse, "What did you find?"
"Nothing, I am just not used to it," Hasse said, sighing. "You know, killing instinct has been with me for thousands of years, as natural as the feeling of hunger and pain, but now it's gone..."
Nearby, Lily heard what Hasse said. She bared her fangs. "I don't feel a thing. It's better not to have that instinct," she said.
Hao Ren had almost forgotten. The husky possessed a certain degree of hostility towards other races too, just like the normal otherworldlings. Though hers was very weak, it occasionally manifested in things like squabbling for food with Vivian.
Hasse, who rarely showed any emotion, laughed. "Maybe, the younger generation like you is lucky. At least you can control your mind more easily, and are more adaptive than an old man like us."
Hao Ren had never had a good impression of the senior demon hunter. He always had the feeling that Hasse was cold and old-fashioned, and had a deep-rooted prejudice against the otherworldlings. However, Hao Ren had sensed a touch of humanity in Hasse this time. He did not believe that this change was the result of the disappearance of the killing instinct, but he also did not like to poke his nose in other's lives, so he gave a perfunctory reply.
"If what happened just now is anything to go by, we can infer what happened a month ago," Lily said, looking around. "Look at these banquet tables, the demon hunters that Amatura brought were having a good time with the Ancattero family. Probably, they also lost their hostile instinct, just like us, before the Shades of chaos appeared," she said.
Hasse nodded in agreement. Suddenly, Hesperides called out, "Look at this!"
Hao Ren and the others went over only to find Hesperides was standing in front of a banquet table at one end of the hall, holding a beautiful but weirdly huge golden cup in her hand.
"Is there a problem with the cup?" Hao Ren asked curiously. They had been busy checking the dead bodies and signs of battle in the hall and entirely overlooked the banquet tableware that had strewn everywhere.
"Do you think people normally drink from such a huge cup?" Hesperides flipped the cup bottom up, revealing a series of complicated runes and patterns on the circular base. "It seems like a ceremonial vessel," she said.
Then she pointed to the marks next to the banquet table and other strange items scattered on the ground. "Looks like they had a ritual. These cups and candlesticks are different from those on the other tables, and usually not used in a banquet."
Vivian took the golden cup in her hand. She saw some residue—the dried red wine. She could smell the suspicious scent. "It smells the blood of the demon hunters. They mixed the red wine with blood," she said.
Then she found another cup under the table. "It's true. It tastes like the blood of the Ancattero family member," Vivian said.
"They came here to swear in as bothers?" Lily asked.
Vivian stared at the husky. "Though I feel that what you said is possible, could you please shut up?"
"It was a communion, but the scene has been destroyed," Hasse said, bending over to examine the banquet table that laid on the ground with two broken legs. There were some subtle traces of runes on the table, but the rest of the table was charred. "Otherwise we could know what this ritual was all about—"
Before Hasse's voice trailed off, White Flame suddenly broke in. "Teacher, Master Teuton is back, and—"
Hasse looked up, noticing White Flame's unusual expression. "What happened?" he asked quickly without waiting for White Flame to finish.
"They found Elder Andaherr, but she seems a bit weird."
Hasse immediately let them in. Hao Ren saw Teuton and two demon hunters walking into the hall with Wayne following from behind. In the middle was a small figure draped in a deep-purple cloak.
Wayne nodded to Vivian before Hesperides pulled him to a side, asking him what happened. Meanwhile, Hasse came up to the short figure and carefully lifted the hood off the figure's head. "Elder Andaherr?"
Hao Ren looked at the person, a woman in her thirties with long gray hair and an Asian face. Though she was an ancient of the same period as Hesperides, like other long-living races, age did not catch up on her face. The only weird thing was that this Elder Andaherr was strange, just like what White Flame had said.
She looked inert and did not respond to her surroundings. Even though Hasse greeted her, she just looked up and could not say anything.
Looks like she lost her mind.


As a person who is down-to-earth as well as a good Samaritan, Hao Ren desires to live the rest of his life as a benevolent landlord. Stumbling into a curious yet mysterious lady, he began his journey of “collecting” abnormal and supernatural tenants.

Hesla and Stardragon belonged to the same continent. The more liberal culture on Hesla was perhaps due to the hot and humid climate. Even outside of the beaches, bikini girls and topless guys could be seen walking on the streets.
The train pulled in to the military train station. Looking through the window, a man in shades wearing a loose-fitting flowery shirt could be seen standing on the platform. He was probably the next point of contact.
Han Xiao alighted from the train together with the rest as Qi Bai Jia led the way. Qi Bai Jia walked up to the man and introduced himself. "I am Qi Bai Jia from the Stardragon's Division 13."
The man laughed and removed his shades. He had unshaven stubble and looked unkempt, as if he was a fishmonger from the market.
"I am Ye Fan from the Hesla Intelligence Department."
Han Xiao was in disbelief.
Ye Fan‽
Which Ye Fan was he?
What exactly happened!
The man looked nothing like the dashing and cool Ye Fan that Han Xiao pictured in his mind.
Ye Fan saw the hole-studded train carriage and immediately asked, "You guys encountered a monster?"
"It was just a small worm, no real threat."
Qi Bai Jia gave a dry cough. Despite of the danger caused by the worm, there was no way he would admit that the situation had been greatly perilous. He needed to maintain the reputation of the Stardragon agents and wanted the folks on Hesla to believe that they were strong.
"It must have been really fortunate for you guys to arrive safely." Ye Fan laughed. He did not further probe into Qi Bai Jia's words.
Ye Fan put his shades back on and said, "Let us quickly head to the command center and report in. Our administrative procedures here are less complicated than those in Maple, at least 90% less."
Some agents chuckled to themselves. Maple was known for its inflexible system. Apparently when the Shanuks from Theseus and Maple collaborated to wipe out the Vagrant Warlords, the short-tempered Shanuks were so frustrated with the elaborate reporting procedures of Maple that they almost fought with the officials at the Maple Intelligence Unit's Caroma headquarters.
The administrative pre-requisite for this joint operation required the commanders to submit their operation plans before the actual execution of the mission.
For this operation, the Hesla military was delegated to be the offensive force. The agents were in charge of reconnaissance missions to uncover the enemy's defense blueprints at the Dark Crow Valley Base.
Along the way, one could see the brand-new bulletproof jeeps and small tanks parked in garages. There were also honeycomb missile-launchers and groups of soldiers transporting ammunition.
Zhang Wei, Di Susu, and Ma Qing Yang became really quiet, a stark contrast from their usual chatty behavior. It was their nationalistic sentiments affecting them. Han Xiao realized that he should not do anything overboard at that point in time.
The commanding officer was a muscular Caucasian man by the name of Colonel Carl. Colonel Carl was studying the operation plan hanging on the wall. Upon hearing the door creak, Colonel Carl, who thought that it was his assistant officer entering the room, blurted out, "Do not disturb me when I am thinking!"
Ye Fan coughed and said, "Colonel, the agents from Stardragon are here to submit their report."
Colonel Carl turned his head to face Ye Fan. The tension on his face relieved immediately. He squinted his eyes and stared coldly at the Stardragon agents with distrust. He took out a document from his drawer.
"Take them down to rest, we will set off together in an hour," he ordered.
Carl seemed unfriendly to the agents of Division 13. Ye Fan took the agents to a room and asked them to stay put at the location since they would be moving out shortly.
After Ye Fan left, the agents were left alone. Lin Yao finally dared to speak and asked softly, "Why do I get the feeling that the Hesla soldiers, especially the commanding officer, seem to not like us?"
Ma Qing Yang gave a sarcastic grin and said, "In the past, there were wars between Stardragon and Hesla. Therefore, the people of Hesla are unfriendly toward us. It is really frustrating that we have to face such situations even when we are on a collaborative mission with them. Colonel Carl definitely doesn't look like an easy figure to appease."
The different cliques within Division 13 was not unique to Stardragon. In fact, many countries faced such situations. Maple and Ordina were more conservative. Raylen and Theseus were more assertive. Stardragon and Hesla were more neutral.
Lin Yao remarked in disbelief, "Why did the department send us to Hesla then? What if they make us the sacrificial objects for the mission?"
"Nobody knows what the higher-ups have in mind. I guess we have to count on ourselves to stay safe."
Ma Qing Yang, being a seasoned member of the department, was no longer surprised or shocked by such arrangements.
Qi Bai Jia explained, "Don't worry, every command given to you guys has to gain my approval."
The agents fell silent after a series of discussions to get into the mode for the mission.
"I am going out to take a puff."
Han Xiao stood up and walked out of the room. He lighted his cigarette and took a deep puff, which went all the way down to his lungs, then out of his nostrils in two trails of smoke. He felt a sense of relief.
He ignored the unfriendly stares from the Hesla soldiers and diverted his attention to the mission plan on the screen of the tablet.

Initially, Han Xiao thought that it was going to be a normal mission, but instead, the operation was part of the Camp-destroyer series, which allowed for a varied and outstanding performance.
There were many types of missions, and for those belonging to the Camp-destroyer series, as long as one completed most of the objectives, the rewards would be generous. There were also additional rewards based on one's individual performance.

Anyhow, Fang Zheng was just a commoner. The thing he was most concerned about was whether the Manuscript of Tendon and Marrow Transformation could be evolved into a true, rare manuscript. 
Fang Zheng held the Human Skin Scripture in one hand, and Manuscript of Tendon and Marrow Transformation in the other.

Everything was shiny in the blink of an eye. The Manuscript of Tendon and Marrow Transformation was coated in golden rays of light. Its pages began flipping quickly; it was that familiar sight again. Each page seemed to be coated with a golden stream. The words, paragraphs, and illustrations on them began transforming rapidly. It seemed to be evolving into a scripture of the heavens; it was impossible for the human eye to keep up with the speed of the transformation. 
At the same time, one part of the runes on the Human Skin Scripture faded away. 
When there were only two lit parts of the runes left on the Scripture, the transformation of the Manuscript of Tendon and Marrow Transformation was completed.

The copy of The Manuscript of Tendon and Marrow Transformation (Level 1) he had in his hand was indeed an incomplete rare manuscript. It only contained Qi-changing instructions in the first layer.

There were multiple versions of the story online. 
Fang Zheng eventually decided to evolve his copy of Nine Yang Divine Power to prove a hypothesis he had in his mind. 
Given that Nine Yang Divine Power was one of the top skills in the Jin Yong Series, it was no surprise that it had its own specialties. 
Its true Qi was pure and endless; it was possible to replenish one's true Qi with this skill. 
On top of that, it had the effect of training one's body and strengthening his veins. 
It was also a specific skill to prevent cold and Yin poisons. 
Fang Zheng chose Nine Yang Divine Power in an attempt to fulfil his dream of becoming a martial arts master on top of having it complement the Yang-based Golden Immune Arhat.

The Human Skin Scriptures collection of Gray Qi prior to this wasn't enough. Forcing the evolutions only resulted in the First Levels of incomplete rare manuscripts. 
As they did not evolve into complete books, their titles did not change either. They were still The Manuscript of Tendon and Marrow Transformation (Level 1) and Nine Yang Divine Power (Level 1).
If he wanted a complete set of skills, it was easy; he only had to continue risking his life to collect the Gray Qi endlessly.
