Well, plot points are all fine and all. But I don't think that starting the chapter with a flashback is even remotely considered bad. let's use this novel for instance, Gates really had nothing interesting going on in his regular life except his mental challenges, I introduced him in such a way to show that he had prior issues to being alone in a dorm room. his anger issues to throw away his phone and now, inside the novel, his every action and word is a testament to the side of him that I did not explain from his regular life...a life of rich madness, I call it. Honestly, it's my first time seeing someone say the problem with the novel is the flashback, as it was unnecessary..?

Well, I understand what you mean, though the concept of flashbacks aren't subject to how much time has elapsed but the event, of importance that is needed from such a time lapse.
