Because behind that hideous figure lied a past that formed the current creature and a memory it wished to never disclose.* This is what I think you meant to say, and the reason for no comma is because you can reverse the latter part with the beginning. Ex) A past that formed the current creature and a memory it wished to never disclose lied behind that hideous figure.
