SS.01 Chapter 1

Anna was sleeping when she abruptly felt stuffy. She couldn't breathe. She tried to move and slowly opened her eyes, but was stunned to see a glass-encased her whole body like a coffin!

This is no longer her room. She was inside a hidden cabin barren of stuff other than the glass coffin. Anna panicked while her breathing became stagnant. There is no oxygen inside!

Anna thumped hard on the glass walls surrounding her. It started to crack like ice, she didn't expect it to be fragile, breaking at a fast pace until it shattered into pieces, leaving only the soft mattress she was laid on.

As the air began to circulate in her lungs, taking a deep breath, Anna felt a sigh of relief, she sat up but it didn't take too long when she turned dumbfounded. Her skin and hair were never as white as snow, soft like cotton, smooth as silk.

With the place she was in, Anna tried to recall the last thing that transpired to her. It was the night she read a book about transmitting into another world.

"Oh shit! Don't tell me this is what they call transmigration?" Anna exclaimed after realizing her situation.

The book was about a male soldier who was reborn to another world after dying on a mission. Born as a baby, he retained all his memories from his last life and became an exceptional soldier after he grew up, striving hard to survive at the end of the world.

Until the end of the story, the protagonist used the last drop of blood that belonged to the so-called-gods, to open the wall where he finally found the source of life.

He fell in love at first sight with the dead girl in the glass coffin, the last bloodline of the so-called gods, until the world finally collapsed.

"What a tragic story." She mumbled while thinking about what to do. It would not help her if she would panic since she was already in this situation. She could only rely on her knowledge about the books in her world.

"Let me try the powers of this body." Anna stood up, stretching her body, trying to see if it would be hard for her to adapt. "My body seemed to be in good condition. It feels no different from my real body."

Anna didn't know how long it took her to learn how to use the powers of the body she occupied. There was no tiredness, no hunger, no sleep. As expected from the creators of the world, it was almost like a god aside from not having an endless life.

When she learned how to control her powers, Anna looked around the place she was confined. Despite using her powers that could destroy places, the walls and grounds remained smooth. There was no damage at all as it was created by the first beings, the so-called gods to protect their last bloodline.

Dressed with soft white robes, Anna used her power to modify her clothes which were created using her ice ability but didn't feel cold despite the walls being frosted by ice. No doubt, it was used to preserve the body.

As her white robes changed into light blue clothes, no different from modern pants and long sleeves, Anna used her frost element to create a pair of white glass boots, similar to soldier's footwear to protect her small bare feet. She tied her long soft and silky snow-white hair into a ponytail.

She strolled around and stopped next to a corner before creating a sharp ice pin and pierced her finger, pouring a drop of blood on the wall. It slowly melted, like ice being poured by magma, spreading the whole place until it left nothing.

All she could see were red rocks while facing a narrow tunnel. It should be dark, but thanks to the crystals glittering on the wall, it gave light to her way. She started walking, following the long path like no end.

Anna didn't know how long she had been walking until she reached the end. She jumped in fright, stunned seeing the place outside the tunnel. It was full of magma, yet she didn't feel hot at all. There is no other place where it could have this much magma other than the deepest part of a volcano.

She looked around and started to find a way to go out. Sadly, Anna found nothing aside from another tunnel on the other side of the magma.

After thinking for a second, Anna hesitated before taking a deep breath and used her ice ability, creating a long solid ice bridge towards the other side. Surprisingly, it didn't even melt. This is the power of the body, not the same with ordinary ice.

She started her steps, not looking below the surface where the magma keeps boiling. When she reached the other side, Anna flicked her hand and the ice bridge turned into snow, disappearing like a bubble, leaving no trace.

With a sigh of relief, Anna followed the narrow dark tunnel. She uses her lightning element, dancing within her fingers to light up her way. It was again a long journey, but Anna didn't feel tired at all until she finally saw the end.

It was still dark when Anna came out from that long tunnel. The moonlight glowing, showing the surrounding tall trees and unknown plants. It was a forest.

Hesitating as she remembered what was written in the book, Anna suddenly felt scared.

Although the animals in the forest started to mutate in the middle of the story, it was still enough for Anna to feel afraid while thinking about what kind of creatures were hiding in the forest.

"Come on Anna, you have powers. Just believe that you are just exploring in the mountains as you used to when camping with your friends." She attempted to convince herself.

Taking a deep breath, Anna thought of something. "So where should I go? How would I know the correct path to get out of the forest?"

Then she remembered. This body has a cute pet. That creature was also found and tamed by the protagonist of the story. Due to the last drop of blood that was kept on the antique necklace, the pet recognized a new master.

The pet was a small red cat that could turn into a red flaming tiger and had firepower which was opposite to her ability, yet they were not against each other, they were compatible and both were friendly.

It is just that the bond has been broken since the original host of the body has left, but all she had to do was to whistle to find out if she would be lucky to be its master.

Thus, Anna did it without any second thoughts. She looked around and found a rock and took a seat while waiting for that cute but terrifying pet.

It didn't take too long when Anna heard fast but light footsteps coming from the tunnel until a small creature came out. She could barely see its body, which is the size of a palm.

"Who are you? We have no bond. You are not my master." The tiny flaming red cat surprisingly spoke while it slowly walked towards her.

It stopped ten steps away from Anna and took a sniff from her direction. "You have my master's scent. But I am sure you are not her. Your soul fluctuates differently. Who are you?"

Anna, who turned astonished after hearing the cat speak, secretly rolled her eyes. She wasn't surprised since it was mentioned in the book that this pet could talk. It just sounded incredible after experiencing it.

"I was summoned by the soul who owned this body." She lied without blinking an eye and said in her thoughts. 'Who knows if that would be the case. Otherwise, how would I end up here.'

The tiny red cat didn't respond. Anna added to make it sound convincing, "After she left, you should have felt that the bond between you is broken."

"You were the one who used the frost inside?" It asked suspiciously.

"Otherwise? I woke up not too long ago. The one who possessed this body wanted for the world not to completely collapse, which is why I was here to replace her."

"I am not sure how to do it. So I needed your help. If you are not willing, then we can just wait and watch the world vanish. I will return to my world anyway after this is done." Anna shamelessly claimed.

It was all a lie. She didn't even know if she could return to her world. There is no idea how to fix the world other than this pet.

"You are not from this world? From what realm are you?"

"I'm not sure if you know it, but all I could say was I can read your life or the things that occurred in this world. You can consider it as the upper realm." Anna added another lie.

Some were true though, everything she knew came from a book. Anna could only create a story as to how she came into this world.

"Don't ask me anything else. I only knew about the beginning and end of this world since I am too lazy to read one by one." She added before the cat could speak.

Anna didn't give it a chance to utter a word as she used what she read and started to briefly tell what occurred in the beginning.

The body Anna has occupied was a beautiful girl who at the age of 18 with purple eyes and snow-like hair, was preserved and sleeping in a coffin for a thousand years.

She existed as the goddess of lightning and ice at the beginning of the world until her people, who were called gods by mortal beings, the same with her who have a long life and various elemental powers, slowly disappeared.

They were very kind-hearted to humanity, yet this kindness caused them to be taken advantage of as humans were tempted to know the secrets of everlasting life. As time went by, one by one, they vanished without a trace.

It was hard for them to conceive. Hence, the last people who were about to reach their last year decided to preserve the youngest of them all, a girl who didn't have a name, she was their last bloodline.

Mortals were not blamed as they were too kind not to take revenge. They created this world for mortals to live peacefully, away from the war between the gods. Without the last bloodline who created the realm, the world will start to collapse.

This is the reason why the end of the world started. The Apocalypse began as the last bloodline has left. Humans were supposed to experience the realm slowly collapsing which is the story Anna read in the book.

To be exact, it was the story of the end of the world. No, it is different, the soul of the girl who holds the last bloodline of the gods was replaced by her, Anna, a reader from another world, bringing the body back to life, yet not enough to put the world back to what it was before.

When she was done talking, there was a sudden silence that fell between them. Yet Anna didn't speak further as she waited for the red cat to digest what was told.

"Alright, I will make a bond with you. But you cannot force me to do things that are against our beliefs." The cat finally spoke.

"Your original beliefs? Are you crazy? How long have you been sleeping? Wasn't that the reason why the world is coming to an end? Yet you still want to follow those rules?" Anna opposed it with disdain.

"Rules are like guidelines. You don't need to exactly follow everything." She added while thinking, 'I can't remember the next words stated in the movie Pirates of the Caribbean.'

The dumbfounded cat couldn't help saying, "Don't you have beliefs and rules in your realm?"

"Of course there is. But not as stupid as yours that could bring devastation in the world." Anna mockingly said, 'I just hope that my world will not end up the same as yours.'

The cat thought for a moment before it finally agreed to continue having their bonds. When all was done, Anna asked for it to turn larger, the flames on its body became a thick soft fur where she could ride on its back.

Of course, before that, she used her ice element to create a saddle that could prevent her from falling on its back. The cat complained at first, but with Anna's insistence, it had no choice but to follow.

It would truly be a problem if Anna would suddenly fall while it was running fast in the woods. Hence, they started to leave the forest where the animals seemed afraid of the cat, like the king of the jungle.

When they were finally out, the red cat sniffed in the air to find a scent of a living human before moving forward. It started to feel sorrowful as they started to meet the undead.

They had no choice but to use their ability to fight, but they were very careful not to be seen yet by other people. Otherwise, Anna would be recognized as a monster.

Anna guessed that the apocalypse just started. She didn't know how long it had been since she came, but the end of the world started after the goddess took her last breath.

The volcanoes began to erupt, followed by quakes and tsunamis before a terrible plague and flu started to spread in the air and turned these mortals into zombies.

"There are humans still alive in a nearby city not far from here." The cat stopped and Anna came down from its back before flicking her fingers, making the saddle disappear. The pet also turned into its palm-size body, turning its red fur into orange color like those normal cats.

The cat advises her to use her frost ability to change her purple eyes into a blue hue, the color of her hair remaining as white as snow. It would be no good for people to see her marvelous face made her look like a fragile pretty doll, wandering around with a red tiger that was larger than an ordinary lion.

"I don't think my clothes would fit the situation." Anna sighed as she looked at her clothes made of soft ice.

In a place where the end of the world was occurring, having clean and good-looking clothes would be troublesome. Coupled with her enchanting looks, it would make people think of various things.

Despite having a powerful ability, she isn't a saint to rescue or help everyone. It is not that she didn't want to help, but Anna admits that she wasn't kind.

Once her ability to protect was revealed, it would only give her a headache if people asked her for protection. Besides, humans' hearts are very unpredictable. This is not her world, she didn't know anyone. Who knows if they would betray her in the future.

As the cat jumped onto her shoulder, Anna used her frost ability to create a sword that included a scabbard which was also made of tough ice. It was so light that she could easily swing it without trouble.

As she started walking in the darkness of the night, her light blue clothes were very eye-catching. Anna decided to use her frost ability again, creating a thin mask that ends below her nose, leaving her lips and eyes exposed, to see her surroundings.

Anna also created a hood attached to her shirt for her to cover her head, preventing anyone from seeing her extraordinary hair color. She looked like an assassin wearing light blue clothes with boots made of crystal ice, yet walking soundlessly towards the city.

Of course, Anna didn't fail to meet the undead. The first time she encountered them, she was frightened. But as they continued moving forward, she was able to adapt, yet still, feel uncomfortable and disgusted by the horrifying scenes.

She used her sword, swinging straight to their neck, chopping off their heads before it could get close to her. Anna tried hard not to look at the aftermath as she would feel like wanting to puke.

As the undead continued to appear, Anna walked in at a fast pace. Once she entered the City, she looked for some hidden alleys to prevent other people from seeing her.

She found a small clothing shop and easily opened the door. Anna scanned the place while she picked up her ear to listen if there were any people or undead inside.

From the start, Anna learned that her hearing was very sharp. She could even hear miles away if she wanted to.

Luckily, she quickly learned how to control it. Otherwise, it would make her feel deaf and irritated due to the countless noises that would ring in her ears. She was like a superhero that could hear from afar.

Anna was about to sigh in relief when she heard noises from above the shop. There are thumping and scratching sounds while a sound of soft whimpering could be heard.

Turning frozen in shock, Anna's heart skipped a beat. She wouldn't make a mistake, there are undead upstairs while the soft whimpering certainly comes from a small child.

She may not think twice to leave if it was other people, but Anna has a very soft spot with children. Especially to a little boy. So she took out her sword and immediately rushed towards the stairs.

Roar! Swish!

With a roaring zombie, Anna didn't hesitate to swing her sword, cutting its head before moving to another in quick reflex. Her body was light like moving in the air. The two looked like husband and wife, they are probably the child's parents.
