Chapter 1Prolog

The boy couldn't see a thing.

He couldn't tell if his eyes were closed or if they were open. His head was spinning, his stomach was lurching, his throat was parched and his entire body ached from fatigue.

He didn't even know where he was or how he got there.

In fact...

He couldn't remember a single thing.

Did he have a family? If so, was it biological, was he adopted or was he just an orphan?

Had he ever attended school? What was his age and what year was he in? If not, what did he do during the day?

Last, but certainly not least-

What was his name?

The spinning of his head had ceased so he attempted to stand.

However, what he did not know was that he was tied to a metal chair. Though this by itself would be enough to question anyone's livelihood, the boy didn't panic. Instead, he sat in a daze, not even attempting to process what was going on. The best anyone can do in this situation was to think sleep paralysis was doing its job, scaring people half-way out of their minds, and hope to fall back asleep.

It seemed like an eternity of the boy sitting in the cold chair until ,finally, something happened. A bright wave of blue light shot towards the boy's face. His eyelids shut immediately at the sudden entrance of light and he blinked his eyes roughly. He soon realized that the light source was coming from a 62' flat screen T.V that was just a few feet away.

He stared blankly at the screen, still hazy of what was going on... until he had an itch in his nose.

Still not processing that his limbs were bound to a metal chair, he attempted to scratch his nose and, only then, did he realize the situation that he was in.

Despite this though, the panic had yet to be installed into the boy's brain. He calmly came to the conclusion that he must untie himself in order to scratch his nose.

The boy began to wriggle his wrists within the noose, and after a good two minutes or so, his wrists were cut raw, the scent of blood wafting towards his nose. Consequently, he immediately stopped his futile attempt and decided to rid the hazy feeling he had in his head.

He sat there for ten minutes, the blue light still shining in his face.

By now he had definitely gotten used to it.

Eleven minutes passed, the boy was sleepy and was ready to get some rest when a loud, genderless voice, boomed into the isolated room. The boy flinched in response.

Video clips, with what seemed to be like news broadcasts, began playing.

After one important sentence was said, another clip would appear.

"Civilians lose jobs, homes and even lives due to all out war strategies," one began showing young starving children and destroyed buildings.

"-going against a dangerous country with secret weapons... " another finished with guns a people in uniform marching down a street.

"It has been reported that fourteen million men and women have died for our country-"

"Adolescents ages fourteen and up are forced into war-"

Then the last clip ran, it was unlike the news clips. It had no words, just eerie sounds and images that all consisted of blue.

When looking at these images, the boy felt an odd sensation in his body. It was as if his mind was clearer than before and he felt warm. On the right side of his face, under his eye and down to his collarbone, he felt the most warmth.

This process seemed to go on for an inexplicable amount of time, perhaps a day or two. It then stopped abruptly, the warm feeling was gone and the boy felt goosebumps spread across his body.

Suddenly a gas - like substance filled the room.

The boy, feeling very light-headed and sick, began to panic - finally- and looked around the room. His eyes darted in every corner. He snapped his head from right to left, up and down and over his shoulders.

His episode finally began to slow after a few harsh seconds and his eyes drooped. It was like he hadn't slept in days.

Once again, the boy couldn't see a thing...

Writing Quality: I'm not the person who dwells in grammar so much as long as it's understandable, but the writing quality is good. It is understandable, has little to no typo, and is clean. Aside from the occasional consecutive long sentences, it's great. What I do like about it is the narration. It really flows well and naturally. Stability of Updates: Not sure about this, but I hope it'll have a consistent release. Story Development: 5 chapters out and there wasn't anything much to say about the story yet. Understandable since the novel needs a bit of a warm-up before takeoff. So far, we only have questions, questions, and more questions. Looking forward to some answers and more questions. Character Design: Before I wrote this review, I check other reviews and says our mentally unstable MC is interesting. Personally, he is not. He is creepy. Not in a bad bad way but also not in a good way. I think interesting is an insult. It makes the mc sound shallow because the story is deeper and darker. The MC is someone you will observe because he intrigues you and not because he is interesting. There's a difference. That's why I said I liked the narration because I felt like I am sitting behind the one-way mirror and observing while waiting for what will unfold. World Background: still five chaps... so can't say anything. Overall, the story is nothing but mysterious. What's interesting about this novel is that it will not make you want for the next chapters. It will make you want the answers. Hence, you need more. And I think even though the first five chaps didn't have strong hooks, you will still end up reading the next one because of the lingering questions it'll leave in your head. I really liked what I read, and it's such a shame there are only five chaps. If there's 50 chaps, I would've read it in one sitting. I like crime and mystery. Although the tag is fantasy, I'm hopeful the vibe from the first five chaps will remain solid. Will I read it? Yes. I planned to follow this one. I hope it won't get dropped. For the author, you did a good job. Keep up the good work. I'm now your reader and although I'll be a silent one, I stab if you don't update. Jk jk. If there's anything I would like to suggest is to add more to the synopsis. I like short synopsis as a reader, but your synopsis is too short and doesn't give away anything. So readers might just ignore it. If not for the swap review, I would as well and missed this gem. Good luck! Looking forward to more chapters!
