Zara stood in the aftermath of the encounter, her heart still pounding from the adrenaline. She stared at the scattered artifacts on the floor, the strange sense of danger still lingering in the air.
She barely registered the faint sound of footsteps outside her door, but they were enough to snap her out of her trance. Without thinking, she rushed to the window, peering through the thin curtains.
The figure of Adeyemi moved briskly across the yard, dragging the intruder toward a darkened corner of the property. She couldn't see much of what happened next, but the muffled sound of voices reached her ears.
Elsewhere on the Property...
In the shadows beyond Zara's room, Adeyemi stood with the intruder, his hands steady as he secured the man with precise movements. He didn't hesitate, his grip firm and unyielding as the man struggled weakly in his hold.
Walsh's figure appeared from the darkness, stepping up with his usual calm demeanor. His eyes flicked toward the motionless figure of the intruder before settling on Adeyemi.
"Was that really necessary?" Walsh's voice was low, tinged with a slight edge of annoyance. His hands were casually tucked into his pockets, but there was something calculating in the way he observed the situation. "We need her to stay focused. She can't start asking too many questions, not yet."
Adeyemi's expression didn't shift. "She won't. Not if we keep her in the dark. She believes she's playing a part in this, but she's already far too deep in it to pull away. She'll trust us."
Walsh's eyes narrowed, considering Adeyemi's words. "And if she doesn't?"
"Then we'll make sure she does," Adeyemi replied coolly. His tone was final, leaving little room for doubt.
Walsh studied him for a moment, his gaze calculating. "Just be sure. We can't afford any slip-ups."
"I don't make mistakes," Adeyemi said, his voice cutting through the tension. He turned slightly, dragging the intruder away with little effort. "Leave it to me."
Walsh watched him for a moment longer before turning on his heel, disappearing into the shadows. He knew Adeyemi was capable, but there was always the danger of things unraveling if the right strings were pulled too early.
Back in the House...
Zara remained in the room, her thoughts whirling with the chaos of the previous moments. She couldn't explain it, but there was something off about the whole situation—something about the way Adeyemi had acted, the way he had dismissed the danger so easily. But it was hard to focus on her suspicions when the reality of what had just happened weighed so heavily on her shoulders.
She still didn't know who those men were or why they'd targeted her, but for the moment, she had to trust the one person who had come to her aid.
There was a knock at the door, pulling her out of her thoughts. She hesitated but walked toward it, bracing herself for whatever might come next.
When she opened the door, Adeyemi stood there, his presence imposing yet calm. His eyes locked onto hers, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
"I thought I'd come to check in on you," he said, his tone smooth, measured. "Are you alright?"
Zara's breath caught for a moment, still disoriented by the events. "I'm fine," she said, though the words felt hollow. Her thoughts were clouded by the uncertainty she couldn't shake.
"I know it's been a lot," Adeyemi continued, his voice low and reassuring. "But you don't have to worry about anything. We're here to protect you."
Zara swallowed, nodding. She wasn't sure if she should trust him completely, but in that moment, it was the only thing she could hold on to.
"Thank you," she said softly.
Adeyemi's eyes softened just a touch, though his guarded nature never wavered. He stepped inside, glancing around the room before his gaze settled back on her. "Stay close. And don't worry. You'll be safe."
