Chapter 13

Today is Saturday and I'm up early not because I have to be at work but because today me and Nick are going to the Soweto Towers. Last night, Nick told me he'd come and fetch me at 10 am and between me snoozing and resetting the alarm, I am left with one and a half hours to get ready. I immediately jump in the shower.

Very ladylike, our little Aka.

I throw on a mustard top with the words ''Melanin Popping'' written on it, some black denim shorts and some vans. I start working on my makeup when my phone chimes notifying me that there is a new message. It's Nick telling me that he is now outside so I tell the security to let him in via the intercom. A few minutes later a knock sounds so I go over and open the door and I almost faint....this man should never wear all black or else I'll lose. He's in black skinny jeans, a black t-shirt, a black leather jacket and black boots.

You did say he is in all black so we kind of figured.

Hubba hubba......wait I thought you said you don't like him, KAL says rubbing her chin.

I don't like him but that does not mean I am blind.

So you are attracted him?

'Are you done checking me out?' He asks inviting himself in, what a gentleman.

'Are you done being delusional?' I say shutting the door.

'Nice place, bella, it's so sterile I swear you could operate someone in this place.' He plops himself on the couch and scans through the channels and settles on ESPN.

'Thanks, normally I'd say make yourself at home but you seem to have done that all on your own.'

I leave my guest and go finish up my makeup. I contemplate taking longer just to irk him but I remember that I hate being late much less waiting on people. I quickly touch up my makeup and announce my presence to an oblivious Nick. He finally looks over at me and his eyes settle on my legs the little furrow in his brow marring his forehead.

'What are you looking at?'  I say glaring at him.

He laughs then he takes my hand and leads me to the kitchen window. I look and see cars and I'm puzzled by his strange behaviour until my eyes settle on a lone motorcycle. It's monstrous and the black colour makes it look more like death as if it needed that.

Weren't you the one saying you want to let your hair down a little, be out there?

Ah yeah but not this, I could die.

Or you could have the best time.

I step back and start shaking my head no. I think of all the motor bike accidents I've heard of and none of them ended pretty.

But you can die anywhere, if it's meant to be it meant to be. If it's not a bike it will be a car.

You raise a good point.

'Is little Ms Aka scared?' Nick says in a baby voice, his eyes glinting with mocking.

Yes, she is.

'What are you? Five? No, I'm not scared of anything, I was thinking about how I really wanted to wear this short and now I must take it off.' I say and go to my room so I can change. I rummage through my clothes and settle on some black skinny jeans. I put on a leather jacket also so I look badass.

Yeah to compensate for....

Shut up KAL!

'I'm ready.' I say as I enter the living room.

'You look nice.' He nods at my outfit.

'Thanks...wait so earlier I didn't?'

He just shrugs. Wow.

I lock up then we walk to his motorcycle. I noticeably slow down as we get closer to the bike. He looks over his shoulder at me.

'I'm not scared of anything', he mumbles.

'I heard that!'

He chuckles.

We get to the bike then he grabs a pink helmet and helps me put it on.

'Well aren't you prepared.'

'I didn't want you to have an excuse.'

'Is wanting to live not good enough'

'On the contrary this will make you feel more alive.' He says as he wears his black helmet.

'Ready?', he asks as he gets on bike and I must say he does look good on the bike, gives off that bad-boy-next-door vibe.

Could you sound more cliché. Ohh and he has a cute butt.

KAL!!!!!!!!!!

Ahhh hush you were thinking it too.

I shake my head to focus.

'So aren't there some things I should know, guidelines if you will before I get on this death-trap.'

'Oh yeah, when I am turning you must lean into the turn with me and the most important one....hold on tight to me.' He says the last part with a wink.

'Oh I get it, that's why you want us to use the bike so I can hold you, very pathetic if you ask me.'

'But it works.'

I roll my eyes and hop on, I readjust myself a few times to get comfortable. I bring my hands around him and inhale his woodsy sent.

That's not creepy at all.

What? He smells nice.

Sensing that I'm all set he starts the bike and the thing roars to life and I feel adrenaline soaring in me. It starts to move and before I know it we are on the freeway and he accelerates and I start laughing enjoying the feeling and thinking how my mom would kill me if she saw me on a bike.

I try to let go and lift my hands in the air, let's just say it's harder than it looks on television. I feel Nicks body vibrate and realise he is laughing at me.

He approaches a turn so I do as instructed. I feel like this would be even better at night. I lay my head on his back and enjoy rest of the ride.

We get to the place and I'm a bit bummed the joyride is over but when I see the Soweto Towers, all that disappointment goes.
