CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND NINE

Dad turns to Jer, "what did she want?" He asks, gruffly, while Logan tenses up beside me.

Putting down his fork, he leans back in his chair, sweeping a hand over the stubble on his face, before taking slow sips of the beer beside his plate, without taking his focus off Jer.

"Yeah, what did she want, Jerome?" Fixating his gaze on Jer, Logan wait for him to respond, reminding me of a predator waiting to pounce on his prey.

Jer flinches under Logan's intimidating gaze and leans back to glare at me. Flushing with embarrassment, I quickly looked away from him.

"Jerome!" Dad calls him and my guilt worsens since I am the one to put him in this uncomfortable situation.

"She wanted to find out if there's any news of my whereabouts," I injected quickly, hoping the conversation dies there but that was just a hopeless thought.

Reverting his eyes from Jer, Logan turns to me, his eyes, dark and unreadable.

"Really?" Logan asked, causing me to shy away from the disbelief I saw in his eyes but I stood my ground and didn't flinch, like Jer.

Shrugging, I stuck the fork into the potatoes, wishing it was Logan's hand, "really," I snapped.

"Uh huh." I heard Logan say but refuse to look in his direction but I did take a chance to peek at Justin who winks at me, with a mischievous smirk.

I turned to dad when I heard a fist bang on the Oak dining table.

"Okay!" He says, slamming his hand down a second time, "what the f**k are you all hiding from me?" He bellowed.

Mom stands and shoves her chair back angrily.

"FRANCIS!" She yells. "What did I say about language when the baby, is in the room?" Mom yelled at dad.

Dad shrugs with a smirk, "more like the baby in the womb." Dad chuckles but sobers instantly when he meets mom's angry glare.

Reaching out to hold her hand, "aww, come on Fran," he winks. "With a father like Logan, he's going to be born cursing." Dad laughs playfully, apparently forgetting that his son and my brother, could be hiding something from him.

Sitting back down, "if you don't practice the proper thing now, you never will," mom grumbles, digging into her dinner once again.

Not a word was spoken since mom sat back down, as everyone concentrated on the plate in front of them.

"Jerome, why did Jessica call?" Mom suddenly breaks the silence, surprising me but thankfully my mouth was empty, otherwise I would be choking right now.

With my head bent I stared at Jer from lowered lashes, as he takes a peek at mom who sat on the other end of the table.

Jer seems as if he's about to break and I slapped Logan's leg for him to help Jer out.

Smiling innocently at me, "ouch" Logan winks, "why you kick me?" Logan frowns but I can see he's just putting me on the spot with his parents, like I did with Jer.

Pouting my lips, "I'm sorry," I apologized. "Guess I am getting so fat, I need the two chair spaces," feigning embarrassment, I looked away.

"Jerome, I asked you a question," mom raised her voice to get Jer's attention once again. "Why did Jessica call you." Repeating her question, mom leans forward to stare Jer, square in the eyes.

With an apologetic smirk to Logan, "she called to say her boyfriend Clyde had and encounter with Gray," Jer informs mom, tilting his head at Logan whose seated opposite him.

Slamming a fist on the table once again, "what the f**k," dad lifts his eyes at Logan but he was not angry. He appeared concerned for his son and he should be after the attempt Clyde made on Logan and my life.

Twerking his eyebrows, he frowns at his father.

"It seems as if grandfather is ghosting Clyde because he came sit at the same table I was seated at to question me." Logan pause to smile at his mother. "I didn't like his approach, nor did I appreciate his attempt to intimidate me." Tilting his head with a smirk, "let's just say he's has to think twice before approaching me again," Logan retorts, with a smug look.

Gasping at the other end of the table, "Logan he could hurt you again," mom responded, with a hand covering her mouth.

Dad reaches out and pats her arm, "don't worry, your boy was prepared this time and I'm sure he's not going to allow himself to be ambush again." Dad assures mom, but didn't hide the concern.

Nodding at dad, mom turns to Logan, "stay away from your grandfather," she warned and Justin snickers at mom's warning and winks at Logan and I.

Chuckling, "yes mommy." Logan jokes to lighten the situation.

Lifting his eyes to meet Logan's, "Clyde is dangerous and I sense Jess is in danger, being with him." Jer informs us, with Logan only responding by nodding and exchanging a brief glance in Justin's direction.

Have they also realise Jess is in danger?

As the family continued discussing Clyde, Jessica and Logan's grandfather, my mind started wandering to Jess and what danger could she be in, since she totally supports Clyde or is he using her?

Judge Delany and I made an agreement to stay out of Jess and her foster family life but if at anytime we believe her to be in danger, she would intervene.

Should I get her involved?

Yawning at the table making sure everyone is aware that I'm tired and sleepy, pushing my plate aside, I turn to Logan and smile.

"Stay here with your parents while Jer helps me upstairs." I suggest.

With a brief look at Jer, Logan shrugs but I could see he was suspicious about my decision.

Standing up he kisses me. "Take care of her," he warns Jer who was reluctant to leave the table but he had no choice.
