Chapter One Hundred and Twenty Nine

As the phone started ringing, the confidence I felt a few minutes ago was slowly replace by fear. I turn to make eye contact with Logan as he stood staring intently at me.

With a small smile and a slight nod, Logan silently encouraged me to continue, massaging my shoulders softly, "you've got this sweetheart, you've got this." Logan whispers, into my ear, placing a light feather kiss on my cheek.

I nod in agreement, as Jessica's voice echoed into my ear.

"Hello!" Jessica answered, confidently, throwing me off my game. It's been so long since I heard her voice, that I just listen again to her greeting me, but this time with a questioning tone.

"Hello?" Jessica answered again and without saying a word, Logan kisses the top of my head and I feel him move away from me. I look back to see the guys following Logan outside of the tent, leaving me alone.

"Hello?" Jessica said for the third time, but with a tinge of impatience.

Tears instantly started rolling down my cheeks, "Jess?" I whimpered, "Jess, is that you?" I asked again.

My tears and emotions were real. The pain of losing my sister was real. My mother's pain was real.

"Jamie?" Jess responded instantly in a soft surprised tone and I nod my head forgetting that she can't see me.

"Yes, Jess, yes it's me." I cried, taking deep breaths while I fought to control my breathing, grateful that Logan left me alone, to deal with my emotions.

"Jamie?" Jess responded cautiously, "what's wrong? Where are you?" Jess continued cautiously.

Crying with more intensity, "I left! I left Jess, I left Logan" I explained, the reason for my tears. "He only wants the baby and I couldn't give away my baby. I just couldn't, so I got an opportunity and ran from his mansion." I explained, in between sobs, remembering my last attempt at running away and failed.

"Tell me where you are, I'll come and get you" Jess immediately volunteers and I paused, wondering how genuine her concern was.

Looking behind me, I realized that I'm still alone, "I.. I.. I'm not sure" I stammered softly. "I tried calling Jer, but he didn't answer, can you let him know that I'm okay for now and that I will call him as soon as I get another phone borrowed." I lied, explaining my reason for calling her and crossing my fingers, hoping that she believes me.

As if Jess senses that I'm about to hang up, "no wait, Jamie, let me come to you and help you. It's going to be difficult in your condition to move around." Jess said quickly into the phone.

I paused for a second before responding, "I'm afraid" I said, as honestly as I could. "I'm afraid of both Logan and his grandfather, so I have to disappear for good." I said to Jess, hoping that I am being convincing, because this will be my only chance to do this. I can only convince her once.

Sounding more like the Jess, I know and love, "no Jamie, wait. Let me come to you, let me help you please." Jess pleaded convincingly, that for a moment I believed she cared.

When I remained silent on the other end of the line, "Jamie, I'm responsible for things going this far with you and Logan, with you and I. I am the one who caused this. Please let me help you. You shouldn't be alone at this time." Jess pleaded softly, while I listen to her voice for some sign of betrayal.

Hearing a noise behind me, I turned to see Whiz walking in followed by Logan. and I quickly turned away. "I'm sorry Jess, but I have to go. I will call you back as soon as I find somewhere to stay" I promised, turning to hand the phone over to Whiz, with Jess's voice still echoing over the line.

"No, Jamie no. Wait Jamie, don't hang up." Jess was saying when Whiz cut the call.

Covering my face, I wept uncontrollably into the palm of my hands, feeling myself being pulled backwards to a firm hard wall of my husband's chest.

Embracing me, Lagan was silent as he allowed me to release my pent up emotions. He knew how much I loved and dotted on Jess and how much Jess's betrayal still hurts.

Logan leaned down and lifted me bridal style in his arms. when my sobs subsided.

"You did great sweetheart, you did great" Logan repeated softly into my hair, while walking out of the tent, with me in his arms.

I started wriggling in discomfort, "Logan, your back. Please put me down." Raising my head from off his chest, I met his baby blues twinkling down at me.

Chuckling softly, "yeah, you have gotten heavier from our wedding night, but I love cradling you just the same." Logan flirted with me and even though we have been married for a few months, I still blushed in response.

Instead of taking me back to the cabin, Logan took me down to the lake, putting me to sit on the swing.

Laughing softly to myself, "I wonder if this can still take my weight?" I asked myself because it's been years since gramps secured the swing for us.

Joining me with a soft chuckle, "don't worry, I won't have put you on it, if I didn't secure it myself." Logan says, looking down at his jeans pocket.

Fishing his phone out of his pocket, Logan started down at the screen and frowned, then looked up over my head and nods to whoever's there behind me.

Putting his index finger to his lips, silently instructing me to stay quiet.

Nodding, I watch Logan put the phone to his ear and turn away from me.

"What the f**k do you want?" Logan barks into the phone, causing me to jump.

I watch his shoulders tense up and I just knew his call has to do with my call to Jess.

If I'm correct, then she really didn't disappoint, a realization that hurt me.

"It's my problem and I will deal with it!" Logan continues to answer with hostility.

With legs apart, Logan pushes his hand into his pocket but with his back turned towards me.

I'm sorry readers for my absence.

Covid 19, handicapped me for a while, but thank God, I'm fine.

Please, stay safe!
