CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND NINETY THREE

I never made it upstairs to check on Jamie but I did send her an extremely large slice of Cheesecake, Whiz friend picked up this morning from her grandmother along with other pastries and bread as, is her daily gift to her granddaughter and her in-laws.

I hope she understands my silent apology but one of the guards found 'my 'hoddie' so Cam's handling the investigation, Cam's way, since Whiz says the cameras have been tampered with but he won't be called Whiz, if he couldn't fix it.

Looking on, I racked my brain for a traitor among us.

Everyone in our circle is trustworthy. I made sure for back checks and most of these guys are former military with nothing to fall back on and a pension plan running.

"Jamie wasn't lifted, she was dragged." Cam says from behind my head, "so the question is, why?" Walking around, he stood facing me, his brows knitted closely together, shoving his hands in his black cargo trousers, clenching and unclenching his jaw.

The thought of Jamie being dragged, bruising her body. The body that's carrying my baby.

Mom and Mrs. Stan, washed and cleaned her when she was brought inside because I was edgy and angry, they didn't want me around.

"They couldn't f**king lift her!" I retorted angrily turning away angrily. Stopping as the words that just came out of my mouth registered in my brain. "They couldn't lift her" I mutter softly, turning to face an expressionless Cam.

"Jamie would be light weight for anyone of these guys here" Cam says reaffirming my thoughts.

"Fuck!" I muttered turning away again because I didn't like my train of thoughts.

Walking closer, "what do you want me to do?" Cam asks but I couldn't make a decision until Whiz came through.

Shaking my head, "nothing, yet" I muttered softly.

There's only one person who cannot lift Jamie and that's the only person I still don't trust.

Nodding, Cam walks away as Mrs. Stan walks unto the patio.

"Logan you need to eat something," Mrs. Stan comes to admonish me but I am not hungry and food's the furthest thing from my mind.

Without saying a word I look at Mrs. Stan, she would understand the pain I feel but far more worst is the betrayal from someone I've been trusting or trying to trust for a while, but why now? Why here?

Taking a seat opposite me, Mrs. Stan reaches for my hands. With a soft smile she lifts her eyes, "this is a lot to take in but the most important thing is that she's fine and if she was the intended target, she wasn't hurt." She says reassuringly.

I understand what she said, although I sense a 'but' somewhere around the corner. "If Ralphy was here, he would tell you, take your time!" She smiled. "We don't know who did it and they didn't succeed so they will try again." Mrs. Stan continued advising me the way Ralph would have done it. "Do not make moves to alert the traitor but the person must be weak it they couldn't lift her." She nods, confirming she overhead me.

Squeezing my hand tightly, "just let them believe they have the upper hand until your friend," pausing she looks away thoughtfully, frowning, "uh... what's his name again?" She questions me for help.

Having no idea who she's speaking about, I'm just as lost as her, "the computer one," annoyed that I can't help her.

Chuckling, "Whiz,* I filled her in.

Nodding, " yes that one, Whiz," she acknowledges, "wait for him to bring the camera up." Mrs. Stan squeezes my hand before getting up.

"No go check on your wife, I heard the doorbell so the doctor is probably here." Tugging me up, I stood and allowed her to lead me inside the house and Jamie.

Leaning against the wall, I stood observing Jamie getting checked over by Doc, even through he's not her regular physician, she's not making a fuss.

I watch her wince when he took a blood sample but again she took it in stride while mom remained unmovable at her side.

Turning away to stand in the corridor, pounding my fist against the wall, my anger nowhere near subsiding.

"If you can't control yourself, I don't want you anywhere near that girl," dad says firmly making his way towards me from the other end of the corridor.

Leaning against the wall, I slid down exhausted for the first time since waking up from the coma that held me in captivity for three months.

Cradling my head in my hands with my knees propping my elbows, "only two nights and one day," I mumble to myself checking the amount of time Jamie and I spent in married bliss. "And since then, it's only downhill." I felt my dad sliding down beside me but he didn't interrupt me. "Jamie had to deal with her injuries and make decisions concerning her life and our future without me but still she kept going, despite being targeted." I continued unaware that tears were flowing.

Patting my back gently, "and she support your decision to move here and most of all, to take up the mantel." Dad also reminded me.

Lifting my head to look at him, scuffing, "because she didn't have a choice," I retorted wondering if I should have agreed with my mother and allowed her to take Jamie away from everything here and everyone.

Chuckling, "yeah, there's that but she also made it because she wants to hold the family together," dad says lowering his voice as he emotionally continues. "She's considering us and especially her brother." Dad explains but that doesn't change the fact, she's always in danger and her being in danger puts our child's life at risk.

Adjusting himself to sit upright, "it's not my place do say anything but I do have a suggestion." Dad says, staring straight ahead, without even blinking.

"Let Jamie have the surgery."
