CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY

Logan took me home from the hospital along with mom and dad, but the drive home was a quiet one.

I still had no idea why I ended up in the hospital and no one volunteered that information, just as no one's willing to speak about Logan and his mother's falling out.

Logan drove with his dad sitting in the passenger seat while mom and I occupied the back seat.

I'm also aware that we are being followed by some of Logan's trusted men, because Logan no longer travels alone and Jer was at the hospital, staring at me with worriedly.

I know my panic attacks always scared him, but thankfully, he's always there helping me, but why did I end up in the hospital? What was so different this time?

Sitting behind Logan, I lifted my eyes, with a small smile dancing on my quivering lips, only to meet his blues staring right back at me in the mirror. Logan had an unreadable expression, that wiped the smile of my face. Why is he still angry? If I don't find out soon, I could end up in the hospital, again.

Feeling afraid again, I looked away!

Mom's head was turned as she stared out the window, with the same sad expression, Logan and dad wore.

I slid back against the backrest closing my eyes.

Frustrated, because everyday it's a new ordeal, a new trial and I am always close to losing the battles.

"Are you okay? What's wrong?" Logan voice broke through my thoughts, but I didn't respond to his question.

"Jamie?" He called again and this time I opened my eyes to meet Logan's in the rearview mirror, realizing both mom and dad were waiting for my response.

I nod and close my eyes again, unwilling to add to their problems.

"Jamie sweetheart, do you need anything? What's wrong?" Logan's dad, whose always supportive of me, but very reversed, asked this time.

Reopening my eyes, I smiled at him, "I'm good" I smiled, reassuring him.

Since no one's willing to be honest with me, "dad, what happened? Why did I end up in a hospital room?" I asked him instead, hoping to finally get an honest answer.

An alarm look crossed dad's eyes, "sweetheart, you couldn't breathe, I was helpless, I had to take you myself." Dad said and the panic he felt then, was still apparent, even now.

Smiling wryly at him, "thank you" I responded tiredly, before leaning back and closing my eyes once again, ignoring Logan whose eyes were mostly on me rather than the road, ahead.

I wasn't asleep so I knew when we arrived at the cabin, only to see trucks leaving the compound.

Frowning, I turned to mom, who was actually smiling when she saw the trucks.

"What's going on?" I asked, curiously.

A bright gleam in her eyes, "that's material for the new houses we're building, but we starting with yours first, so that it finishes in time for the baby." Mom claps her hand in excitement. "We're going to have so much fun decorating the house, especially my granddaughter's room." She chuckles.

I lifted my eyes to see a smirk at the corner of Logan's lips.

"Or your grandson's room" Logan responded to mom's enthusiastic comments.

Mom's eyes widen in surprise as she was about to get out of the vehicle.

Averting her eyes from Logan's to mine, "you're having a boy?" Mom ask in bewilderment.

Glaring at the back of Logan's head, I shrugged slightly, "we don't know, but we are hoping" I said hesitantly.

"Oh" mom responded by covering her mouth, exiting the vehicle, to join dad.

Logan was already holding the door open for me, putting a hand to help me out, which I slapped away.

I got out of the vehicle as the vehicle Jer was travelling in, pulled up alongside us.

Jer approached me, "you need help?" He asked, his forehead creased with worry lines.

"I'm fine Jer" I smiled reassuringly, "I promise you!" I said, hating that I worry my younger brother so much.

Jer turns to Logan, "may I?" he asked permission to help me and Logan moved away to give Jer space to help me out of the vehicle and into the house. If Logan was affected by my willingness to allow Jer to help and and not him, he didn't show it.

When Jer walked through the living area with me in his arms, Mrs. Stan and Gwen who was in the kitchen ran behind to follow us into my bedroom.

"Jamie, are you okay?" Gwen asked nervously. "I was so scared and so was everyone else." Gwen continued until Mrs. Stan slaps her shoulder affectionately.

"Go bring the plate I prepared for her" Mrs. Stan orders Gwen, shooing her out of the bedroom before I could say I wasn't hungry.

"I had breakfast before..." I started to say before Mrs. Stan shushed me.

"Well if you're not hungry, my grand is" she says affectionately, placing a palm on my tummy. "Are the both of you okay?" She asked, like everyone else, wearing worry lines on their foreheads and in their voices.

Nodding with a satisfied look on her face, "I'll send a cup of ice tea with your meal." Mrs. Stan says already walking out of the room to continue her chores.

I grabbed Jer's hand before he too leaves me alone, "why did you take me to the hospital?" I asked, "what was so different this time with my breathing?" I asked because I was worried. It's never been so bad that Jer himself gets scared.

Jer sits beside me on the already made up bed, which means Mrs. Stan passed through.

"Jamie you lost consciousness and with dad coming in at the same time, we didn't wait a second longer before taking you to the hospital. For the first time you didn't recover until you woke up in the hospital." Jer's tone confirms his fear for the time.
