CHAPTER EIGHTY THREE

Around the large picnic table that gramps conveniently placed to the side of the cabin. I sat appreciating one of the best views of the lake. It's always beautiful to see the light from the moon dancing to the ripples in the water.

I spent hours doing school assignments with very little distraction, except from Jer, whom my grandparents demanded that I bring with me during my senior year which continued, during my college breaks.

Looking back at our vacation time here when my parents were alive, scraping my brain to remember anything that could a difference.

Any memory that could help me, with my quest to find out about myself an Leah!

That's the only thing that comes to mind, the plaque on ground on the river banks, with a name written on it, Leah!

When Jer ran off running lizards, we all separated to search for him, I saw it then, but grams warned me, never to wander off into other people's property again and I obeyed her. But now? Mr. Phillips indicated that we both own the property by the river banks, so why did grams lie to me and did she, lie to me about other things?

Cameron came back, but other than nodding at me with a smile, he haven't said anything again and patience is one virtue that I lost since I got shot.

The private investigator is taking to long to call and I'm get....

"Hi Jamie" Gwen interrupted my thoughts.

I turned around and smile, at the girl I was warned about. Jer and Logan didn't fill me in about their discussion and the stern look Logan give me when I brought the topic up, silenced me.

"This is beautiful" her eyes shining under the dim lights in the yard staring at the lake. "May I?" she indicates the seat opposite me.

Smiling, I nod, "sure" I look at the innocent young girl and wondered how she is caught up with the Daniels scheme against me.

Sensing her eyes on me, I turned to face her noticing as she clenches and unclenches her fingers nervously, as she climbs over the picnic bench.

I thought about starting a conversation but changed my mind. I have no idea what is going on and trusting people around me is getting much more difficult to do! I want to trust her, I really do, but since these two attempt on my life, I've gotten colder.

"Jessica misses you," was the first thing she said to me.

Bad start!

I heard what Gwen said, but I didn't respond and decided to wait for her to continue, because my f******husband didn't inform me, about what we are dealing with, where Gwen is concern.

With an awkward laugh, "actually she misses both you and Jerome" Gwen adds, looking around nervously.

I still remained silent, because I can't honestly say that I miss Jess. Not since she was part of a conspiracy to kill me. My eyes immediately flew to the water where I fell.

I panicked when I fell! I forgot that I could swim and I felt myself going under. Suddenly, a voice reminded me, that I could stand and I stood, I balanced myself and stood up.

I remember hearing Logan and Jer screaming my name, when the dark man was about to follow me into the water, which caused me to swim further down the lake where I knew my brother would find me.

The dark man ran when he heard my name being called and then, gunshots!

Logan! Jer! I cried panicking, but I couldn't turn back and kept going for the opening where Jer would come.

With half of my body in the water and half on the opening, I heard splashes in the water behind me, someone was coming towards me. It had to be Jer. It had to be, I panicked as the cold water started to numb me.

When I heard Jer's voice calling my name, knowing he was fine, "Logan" I said, my lips quivering, seeing my brother approaching me.

"You need to contact her and let her know that you are fine" Gwen words penetrated my thoughts again.

I decided it was time I find out whatever is going on by myself, "she knows that I am alive" I snapped.

If Gwen was affected by the way I snapped at her, she didn't show it, instead she smiled, "Jessica didn't put you in that chair" Gwen reminded me, "and blaming her for that is not right" Gwen continued and I decided to allow her, because I needed to know what lies, Jess fed her.

Making direct contact me, Gwen continues, "I respected you when I first came to work at the Daniels mansion, but after your husband returned home, the way you treated your sister, disappointed me." Gwen vent her feelings quietly and I listened.

She shook her head, her eyes reflecting her disappointment, "your sister did everything for you and turning your back on her because your husband likes her," Gwen paused and shakes her head, as she twitches her lips. "I mean being jealous of your sister, that's so wrong, so very wrong and you could have handled it better." Gwen continued, leaving me with the feelings that, there is more going on with her.

"I did so much for my siblings after our parents left us at the orphanage. I struggle to keep us together, working to maintain us and when my sister got into a foster home, she turned her back on me." Gwen snickers, hitting her chest, "me, the one who made all the sacrifices for her me." Gwen stood up to faced me, angrily.

Having heard enough and not wanting Logan or Jer to turn on her without being able to help her, I decided to handle Gwen as delicately as possible.

"Did your try to have you killed?" I asked calmly.

Snickering, "she didn't put you in that!" she points, shouting.
