"You think he did it?"
"No"
"He's the only person that we know has powers."
"Why would Xed have a reason to hurt him?"
Xed woke up at the mention of his name. Two students in front of him were having a conversation about something that may or may not have pertained to him. He decided eavesdropping would be appropriate.
"I don't know. He's weird, always alone and gives off a bad vibe," the classmate to his left said.
Xed didn't appreciate the negative connotation they gave with his name.
"I just don't believe it was him, though," the left guy continued.
"Who else at this school might have powers strong enough to hospitalize someone with one hit?" The guy to his right replied.
"I don't know, dude," left answered.
Xed was aware as to what they were referring to at this point. There had been a brawl the day before and a classmate had been hospitalized by a student that wasn't involved in the brawl whilst it was in full swing. Xed had watched the whole ordeal as it was occurring and hence, making him completely innocent. Xed had seen the accident while he was on the way home from after-school detention due to the incompletion of homework. Whether his classmates knew this, he did not care. They were welcome to believe that he was the prime suspect in the crime that had been committed.
What had occurred was, that amid the brawl, a hooded figure entered the area where the fighting was taking place and there was a bright flash of light followed by a scream. A student had been hit by whatever had caused that bright flash. The hooded figure had made their escape while everyone who'd witnessed the attack was still in shock. As they made their escape, Xed caught a glimpse of their face. It was the face of a girl in his class.
Xed glanced over at her to gauge whether she was feeling nervous over the whole ordeal only to see that she appeared completely calm.
The bell then rang, beginning class and the teacher cleared his throat.
"Attention class," The teacher began with a serious tone, "Yesterday there was a brawl after school. During the said brawl, one of your classmates was severely injured. He received third-degree burns and is in critical condition. The doctors said that he would make it, but if his parents are unable to pay for special treatment, his upper body will be paralyzed. The burns caused severe damage to his nervous system. Luckily, with our current technology and medicine, repairing most of the nerves will be easy. But some nerves suffered more severe damage than the rest and can't be fixed without special treatment. I'm sure that his family is under some great stress now. We must keep Mr. Sean Nickels and his family in our thoughts.
"WHEN I FIND OUT WHO INJURED SEAN, THEY ARE GOING TO DIE!!" Yelled one of Sean's friends after hearing the news.
"Calm down Mr. McKnight," The teacher replied, "The authorities are investigating who might be the culprit. Some of you may be pulled out of class to be questioned."
"Who could have had something against Sean?" McKnight questioned.
"Neal, are you forgetting that your friend wasn't a nice person?" mumbled a short boy in the back of the classroom.
"What's that supposed to mean, asshat?" Neal retorted.
"Watch your language McKnight," The teacher warned.
"I'm saying that some people have a reason to want to hurt Sean," The boy replied.
"Are you saying that you did it, Brook?" Neal incited.
"No," Brook answered, "How the hell do you think someone like me who doesn't have a lick of power to do something like that?"
"Speaking of those powers," the teacher jumped in, "Does anyone know what they're called in the media?"
"Mr. Pumad Isn't it like sorscience or something?" one of the girls in the front of the class answered.
"Close, it's sciorcery," Mr. Pumad replied, "you were right to combine sorcery and science. That's exactly what it is. Sorcery through science."
