It's a new time for the X-Men. Charles Xavier's school for the gifted is changing in ways that no one could predict. Genosha wiped out. Half of the mutant population gone. What a time to be a mutant right?
Have you ever wondered why you were put on the earth? That maybe you were there to do something incredible. Or maybe something incredibly wrong? That maybe if given the chance you could change things for the better, not just for yourself but for everyone. Given a supposed gift that could save lives or a curse that could end yours.
See, I've always worked hard and tried my best to help those who need it. I always have and always will. Is what I thought. But I've seen it happen many times. The people you claim to be heroes fall. And all it takes is one bad day.
But I think I'm getting ahead of myself here. Let's start from the beginning.
My name is David Lance, a simple high school sophomore. I would never be described as a star student. I mean if I needed to do something, I'd get it done. But I was always more laid-back when it came to school and other things. I didn't take everything serious. I preferred to enjoy myself and relax. Would that count as lazy? Eh who cares.
Anyways, I've never really been the active kind of person. I mean I was fairly tall, standing at a decent 6'4. But I was lanky. More slim than athletic. But one day during gym class, I just felt different. As if my body had changed somehow. We were running the track that day and I ended up smoking the kids who actually ran track. I couldn't believe it. I had run three miles in less than 10 minutes. Needless to say, the track coach had a field day trying to get me on his cross-country team that day.
By the end of the day I was still feeling, pretty juiced. Not the usual fatigue I would have by the end of the day. I walked out of the school and began walking home, but as I did, I watched police patrol the streets heavier than usual. I understood, a few days ago Genosha, the mutant Island was attacked and every mutant that was on the Island at the time was killed. Or so, they say. Things have been on edge ever since.
In my deep thoughts, I failed to notice the Bus heading straight towards me. I looked up at the last second and I felt my body completely go numb. I closed my eyes and waited for the impact. All sensation left my body upon contact. However, I felt no pain. When I opened my eyes again there was a bright light all around me. I looked down at my body and my hands were slowly fading away.
" What's going?"
" It's that kid."
" He's doing this. Is he a mutant too?"
I was panicking and the murmuring of the growing crowd around me wasn't making it any easier.
A truck came to a screeching halt in front of me and a group of armed men stepped out and pointed their guns at me. My heart started pumping. I knew I was in danger. I started panicking more and more as the men shouted in my face. I raised my arms up and where my hands should have been a beam of light shot out of them and blew up the truck the men had come in.
I felt my chest begin to tighten and my breathing became erratic at the sight of the destruction in front of me. I heard the screams of the people around me as they ran away, and I suddenly felt lightheaded. I watched as more armored trucks speed around the corner running through the crowd of people, running, straight towards me. I wanted to run away but my body wouldn't move. I felt like I was paralyzed.
" Freeze Mutie!"
the men all surrounded me, and Suddenly I just felt the world around me give out. The last thing I saw before passing out completely was a short-stocky man, in Black and yellow biker clothes jumped down from one of their trucks.
" Hey, bub. You boys should'a called in sick today. Raaaagh!"
And then nothing.
