"aghhrrrrggg arrrghhhh" the sound of the flushing toilet and repeated vomit of Run Ha had gotten the attention of her manager at Mayfield. she never liked her, but it was nothing personal, she didn't like anyone, she was just a cold and bitter woman who blamed others for her misfortunes even when they were no one's fault but hers.
"Eun Ha!" she called, the moment Eun Ha managed to lift her face off the toilet bowl,
" Are you Ill?" she asked raising her eyebrows in a suspecting manner.
one thing was for sure it wasn't because she cared
"No ma, I'm sure it's food poisoning or maybe something I ate didn't sit right with my stomach"
Mrs Wu lifted her browse and examined her thoroughly, "sure you ain't pregnant?"
Eun Ha's heart thumped loudly at hearing the word pregnant
"pregnant???? no I am not pregnant" she chuckled sounding defensive she wanted to avoid the topic completely but her anxiety had gotten the best part of her. she had put up her best act but Mrs Wu had inclined her heart and mind to anything that could mean bad news for people and given she was matured, she could tell.
"you're pregnant, I can tell you are, I have been observing you since you got in, I know you are" she repeated affirmatively.
"I am not ma'am and I will not stand here while you falsely accuse me, do you know what this could do to my image?
I work under you but I will not stand here while you slander me" she said in a calm but firm voice.
"Are you threatening me?" Mrs Wu had never seen Eun Ha in that state, true, she got her this time, but why was she worked up over it. if it weren't true why was she agitated?
"Humph," she retorted and walked away, leaving Eun Ha panting as tiny balls of sweat rolled down her forehead.
"Did I overreact? did she take my word for it?" She thought to herself.
Before she could make her way back to laundry she felt nauseous and found her way back to the toilet bowl, by the time she raised her head she was feeling very weak,
"I doubt I would be able to work today," she thought to herself as she made her way to the human resource office.
she took the elevator to the 4th floor where the human resource management office was. she knocked slightly as the voice of the human resource manager resounded,
" come in," he said in a deep voice with a commanding tone.
Eun Ha slowly entered the office, she had been fervently praying in her heart to be granted the request to take leave for two days, at least till she could confirm what was wrong with her and take proper care of herself and her unborn baby if already present. She felt sad and happy at the same time, she was going to be a mother, but she had sold her rights to the child even before it was conceived.
"Yes, why are you here"
Eun Ha already had shaky limbs she was weak and pale
"Sir, I would like to request for leave of absence for two days. I am not feeling too well" she responded weakly.
The management paid little or no attention to staffs of low ranking like the waitresses since they had more than enough of them.
the HR took a few seconds to observe her for a while she looked sick,
" Alright then you can go" he gave her a typed document to sign on, it was designed for emergencies like this.
she signed and left immediately, this time she was sweating profusely, she was confused, it was quite unusual, she hated herself, she needed to find out if she was truly pregnant or if it was just another illness, she took a cab and stopped at the closest pharmacy to her new apartment in City A it was in B town, she had moved out of her parent's apartment in A town 2 weeks after the procedure, she wanted to be far away from everyone as possible.
she owned a one-bedroom flat apartment that was part of a two-storey building, it has a rickety elevator that was barely ever used because it was unreliable.
This was the new life she had to live, Mu Chen had offered her an apartment but she had politely refused, she didn't want to be indebted to him, he had done more than enough.
"can I have a pregnancy test strip she asked with slight difficulty" she had been quite shy to ask, but the pharmacist had gone in and brought it nonchalantly without a hint of expression on his face, he handed it over to her after packaging it and she made her way to the old model rickety storey building she lived in the small part of the town, one thing was for sure, she needed to start looking for another job and she needed to do it fast.
