Wishes and Sweet Kisses

The Meng family on leaving hospital took the wrong baby girl home, raising her as their little princess, while the real princess of the Meng family was taken to a small rural village, raised with love and affection by the family that she believed was her own. Six months before her eighteenth birthday, the patriarch of the Meng family, and Chairman of Meng Corp found out about the accidental baby swap at the hospital, as both babies had been given the name tag ‘Baby Meng’. Due to being dissatisfied with the child that he realised was not his real granddaughter who the rumours indicated was two faced, he started the search for his true granddaughter, locating her some three months later. Overriding the demands of his son and daughter-in-law that the only recognisable true princess of the Meng family was the child that they had raised since the day she had come home from hospital, he dragged them to the small rural village, where she had been raised by her adoptive family and brought her home. For Abigail Meng, that day marked a dramatic change in her life. When her adoptive family learnt the truth, every member except her adoptive grandmother not only demanded the return of their rightful daughter but compensation to be provided to them. Her biological parents rejected this and refused to send the child that they had raised back and only begrudgingly took her home. On her arrival at her real parent’s home, she saw the two faces constantly present themselves, in front of her grandfather who loved her for her, they were nice and loving, but as soon as he left, they turned on her, treating her as if she was a family servant, shoving her in a room that not even one of the family servants would use while maintaining a façade room for her grandfather to believe that she was being treated well. On the even of her shared eighteenth birthday, Abigail Meng just before she crawled into bed, looked out the tiny window and spotted a shooting star before uttering “I wish that things will become better as of tomorrow. I wish my life would change. I wish that my so-called family receive what they deserve for treating me as they have.” As she drifted off to sleep, a quiet voice came from the corner that had been watching her charge in the shadows, waved her wand and said, “Your Wishes are granted,” before clicking her fingers and disappearing into the air. This is the story of how Abigail Meng’s life changed with three simple wishes granted by her fairy godmother and the love it spurned.

What!

Seeing Abigail leaning against the door, and hearing Sara hitting and kicking the door from the outside Rebecca shivered slightly.

Despite all the issues with her parents, the one thing they never did was allow their fights to spill into any area that someone could see what was happening. Her mother was concerned about how it would reflect on her family and her father was too frightened of his father to act in such a disrespectful way in public. That naturally ensured that she and her brothers bore the brunt of the arguments, and it was only with the support of their grandfather and cousin that they were each able to escape from it.

Just seeing and hearing this in public, made her want to curl up and hide, but she could see that Abigail was impacted, and as her friend she needed to be there. Looking directly at Abigail, Rebecca hiding the terror she felt, somewhat calmly asked "Are you alright?"

Abigail slightly shook her head and said "Not really. Grandfather gave me the dress and hair slides and it hurts giving it to that witch, but at the same time, I promised myself that no matter what she did today I would not allow me to become the centre of a scene where she could portray herself as the victim. The only thing is I now need to arrange for a new dress."

"Can I help?"

Shaking her head, Abigail calmly said "No. You did what was needed. I was worried that when I gave her what I did, she would try and force her way in to look for other jewellery, and you made sure you protected the few things that I gave you. But it hurts to do that because grandfather specifically gave me those items."

Rebecca reached over and rubbed Abigail's arm before saying "If my opinion counts for anything you did the right thing. Having her force her way in, likely with bodyguards and others, likely including Sebastian and their hangers on led by Yasmin and James would have been worse, as that witch would have ensured that you were forcibly stripped and humiliated."

Abigail, moved and sat down on the edge of the bed, and stared at the wall thinking about what to do. Should she call her grandfather and tell him what happened? The moment that that thought passed through her head she dismissed it. He did not need to know about Sara's petty behaviour and the fact that to prevent humiliation she partially gave into her demands.

Did she call Sam, and arrange for her to have a dress sent to the hotel? Sam had access to her personal wardrobe and was always perfect at picking the right dress for the right occasion. However, doing that would likely expose her connections to MayTag, and she promised her grandmother that until she was secure in her life that the last thing she would do is expose the wealth that she had earned due to the risks of someone targeting her by unscrupulous means.

That left, Daniel. Did she really want to call him to have him arrange for new clothes. What would he think? Did she really want him at the outset of their marriage having to run in and save her? Did she want him picking out clothing for her? What message would that send?

Rebecca, watching Abigail noticed that she was not focusing on what was happening in the room, and calmly said "The dress your grandfather organised for me is in the other side of the wardrobe. You should wear that and go to the party. It does not matter if I do not go."

"What!" came Abigail's shocked response. Turning and focusing on Rebecca, Abigail gathered herself together before continuing "No. Grandfather organised that dress for you. You need to be there. I can organise something, I just need to make a phone call."

Rebecca noted the sincerity on Abigail's face but sensing that she wanted to make the phone call in private, nodded and said, "Let me go have a quick shower so we can finish getting ready." With that she turned and entered the bathroom shutting the door behind her.

Seeing Rebecca gave her the space she needed, as she pulled out her phone Abigail called out "Rebecca, I am just going to get my jewellery out of your bag," before reaching in and grabbing the pieces she had her place there safely.

As she sat the jewellery down on the bench under the television, Abigail searched to locate Daniel's personal number that he had placed in her phone, dialling it. After three rings, the phone answered and she heard Daniel say "Abigail, how can I help you."

Taking a deep breath, Abigail calmly said "I need help. Sara caused a scene outside the hotel room I was finishing getting ready in. She found out grandfather gave me a replica dress that his late wife wore on the day they got married and demanded that I give it to her along with the jewellery I was wearing. I did not want a scene, so I threw at her the dress and the hair slides that I was wearing…"

"And you need a new dress for the party?"

"Can you organise something quickly for me, and a hairdresser to come to the room to fix my hair."

"Leave it with me."
