WINTER'S GIFT

Life was so great for Fiona Donalds until an unexpected storm came, disrupting her piece of mind. Proud and arrogant young master Addison Arthur noticed a new transfer student at school but she turns to be the commoner he met at the mall. What does fate have in store for these two. Find out in the following chapters to come. EXCERPT... "Attention everyone, sorry for the inconvenience but you'd all have to leave this instant as the whole mall has been booked by someone. Please get your items to the counter for payment and kindly leave", the mall's broadcast operators kept saying. Meanwhile, Fiona was still inside with a headphone on. Listening to a blaring music, she was completely oblivious of her environment. Walking with slightly closed eyes, she accidentally bumped into someone. "Oh, my apologies", she said trying to manoeuvre but the body obstructed her again. At that moment, she opened her eyes clearly and noticed that apart from the young guy she bumped into and some other men in uniform, there was no other person in the mall. "What's going on here and do I know you?" she asked confused. "I should be the one asking that question Miss", Addison said stepping up to her. "It was clearly announced that everyone should leave the mall for my privacy but someone decided to stay back, INTRUDER", he ended placing more emphasis on the last word. "I beg your pardon?" Fiona was shocked.

1. JUST BEFORE THE STORM

What a promising day it was in the city of Springfield, MO. The birds were chirping happily, people hustling and bustling around as the sun rose illuminating the whole city with its light. There in the midst of it all was the home of the Donalds.

"Grrh, Grrh, Grrh," the alarm clock rang out for a moment.

"Ugh! Why did I ever set this clock on a weekend?" Fiona muttered under her breath as she ignored the clock to continue her 'beauty rest'.

The room was tidy, painted in peach to suit her taste. A dressing table with a mirror at the top was beside her bed. Posters of different pop and jazz artistes were hanged at each corners of the room, it was also obvious she loved painting as some of her works were hange near her beloved 'Idols'. A typical teenager's room in one glance.

The alarm rang out again not long after the first on the bedside table.

"Damn it!" she cursed sitting up on the bed to put off the alarm. "When did I ever set that alarm? Wasn't yesterday Friday?" she murmured to herself as she stood up rubbing her sleepy eyes to check the day of the week on the calendar hanged just above her mini reading table. Her brain was jolted to reality as her eyes zoomed in on Thursday. 'Holy shit! I'm so dead', she thought scrambling out of her pyjamas as fast as possible. This would be the third time she was late to her classes this week. With a towel around her body, she dashed into the bathroom.

Just then, there was a rapt knock on the door before a petite woman in her late 40's peeped into the room, opening the door slightly. "I thought I'd check on yo...wait a second", Susana strolled into the room towards the bathroom. "Don't tell me you're just having your bath", she asked in a horrified tone rhetorically.

"Mum, do me a favour and let me be okay?" Fiona pleaded in a muffled voice indicating that she was brushing her teeth. "I promise I'd be quick".

Susana shook her head disappointedly before moving to leave the room. "Fine. Just so you know, it's 7:45 and Ruby's already downstairs having her breakfast. So you had better get your ass down there sitting comfortably in that dining chair for your meal in 10 minutes time", she said in a stern tone muttering something to herself before she left slamming the door.

Fiona knew better than to take her mother's words lightly. Though Susana was a cheerful and free woman to be with, she could also be cranky especially when it comes to Fiona's late-to-class attitude. She was a pretty woman with straight brown shoulder-length hair and bright eyes.

Fiona came down the stairs some minutes later dressed in a simple long-hand pink fitted top and dark blue jean pants with black lacey sandals. Her dark waist-length glossy brown hair was tied up in a ponytail, enhancing her long oval face, moderately pointed nose and rosy lips that were covered in pink lip gloss. As she went to join the rest of the family at the dining table, her emerald eyes sparkled with glee.

"And here comes the 'sleeping beauty'", Donald announced on sighting Fiona entering the dining room with his right hand stretched towards her direction dramatically while Susana and Ruby just rolled their eyes in response.

"Morning Dad", Fiona greeted hugging him from behind while he was seated before giving him a peck.

"Morning Princess. I take it you slept well and I bet you're gonna be among the first set of students in school today", he teased grinning widely at her, flashing a white set of teeth.

For a man in his early 50's, his handsome features were still that of his youthful days. He was very jovial and sometimes dramatic.

"Dad, stop teasing me. Believe me, I thought today was Saturday", she explained though not because she had to.

"Yeah we know that", a tiny high-pitched voice chirped on sarcastically.
