Prologue

In the kingdom of Goryeo, as his successor, King Gangjong enthroned his eldest son, Crown Prince Wang Ji, as King Gojong. He ruled the kingdom from age twenty-seven as a young monarch. Yet he suffered from so many illnesses that he was unable to rule the kingdom for many years, and as the end of his reign, he became blind and disabled. Due to his physical frailty, his reign was limited to four years. After him, King Wonjong's reign began.

From two brothers and one son, as the next ruler of the kindom, King Gojong named his first brother, Prince Wang Jil, as the crown prince. After numerous challenges and conflicts, he ascended the throne with the aid of his younger brother, Prince Wang Jung, as King Wonjong. Under the guidance of the eldest brother, he ruled the kingdom in a wise and fair manner.
