Chapter 14 Building

Bea

The mysterious message I received last night was still bothering me.

"Bakla!" I was startled by Mathew's sudden outburst.

"You've been spacing out for a while now. Here I am, talking non-stop, and you're not even listening!" he said, pouting.

"I just have something on my mind. Why, what were you saying?" I asked. He gave me a dirty look.

"Really? You want me to repeat everything? No way! I said so much, and you want me to go over it again? Forget it!" he retorted, clearly annoyed. I sighed deeply.

"Bakla, what would you do if someone suddenly reached out to you again?" I asked absentmindedly.

He looked at me curiously. "What do you mean by 'reached out'? Like a ghost?"

I was about to answer when our adviser entered the classroom with the school councils.

"Good day, everyone. We are pleased to announce that there will be an Acquaintance Party for this school year. You need not worry about expenses, as the school will provide the funds for the party," announced Marco's secretary.

She's quite attractive, with the height of a model.

"Bakla, let's join!" Mathew excitedly said to me.

"Why? You go ahead. What would I even do there? Besides, I don't know anyone. You can enjoy yourself without me," I replied.

"You're such a killjoy. This is a once-in-a-lifetime event. Look! We don't even have to spend money because the school is funding it. Come on, please?!" he pleaded.

I sighed in defeat. "What else can I do?"

"Yes!" he exclaimed happily.

I snickered at his excitement. I turned my attention back to the school council and noticed Marco was missing. It was strange since I usually saw him around school. This was the first time I hadn't seen even a shadow of him.

It was almost evening when our class ended. I stretched my arms as we exited the room.

"Bakla, you go ahead. I need to stop by somewhere," I told Mathew.

We reached the campus entrance before he looked at me again. "Are you sure?" he asked, concerned.

I nodded. "Duh? I'm not a kid. I can handle myself, okay?" I assured him.

He sighed heavily and waved at me before riding his bike. I sighed deeply before checking my phone to read the anonymous message.

"Is today the day I'll meet them again?" It's so weird. My stomach felt like it was doing flips even though I wasn't hungry. All my nerves were on edge. Is it because I'm finally going to meet the owner of this bracelet?

I gathered my thoughts before hailing a ride. It took a while, but I eventually arrived at the same place where I was mistakenly thought to have been about to jump off a building.

I stood outside the building, which remained untouched. As far as I knew, the construction was halted after a body was found behind the building on the same day I was mistaken for trying to jump. I wasn't sure if it was true since I didn't witness it myself.

"The stainless wire around the building has been removed," I mumbled.

Am I doing the right thing? What if it's just someone playing a prank on me?

But what if it's not? What should I do? From the way they described the address, they seemed to know it well, which means they know me too.

Or maybe I'm just scared because of the crime that allegedly happened here? I'm not afraid of seeing a dead body, but what if it happens to me?

I ruffled my hair in frustration. "Sh*t, whatever," I said before entering. I had a cutter with me in case something went wrong.

As I climbed the stairs, I could hear my footsteps echoing through the corridor. The building was quite tall, so it was tiring to climb.

Halfway up, I stopped to get my phone from my pocket and turn on the flashlight since it was dark and the building was too dim. I didn't want to fall down the stairs.

While I was busy with my phone, I heard slow, careful footsteps coming from above.

I gulped, trying not to let fear get the best of me. I wasn't afraid of ghosts, but was this a sign? I asked myself.

"H-hello?" I bravely called out, hoping for a response that would ease my mind.

But there was no answer, and the footsteps stopped when they heard my voice.

"Sh*t, I don't want to do this anymore. I'm going home," I cried in fear.

But my pride wouldn't let me. I took a deep breath, gathered my courage, and continued climbing. When I reached the door to the roof deck, I could hear the footsteps getting louder, making me gulp before opening the door.

Unfortunately, there was no one there. "H-hello? Is anyone here?" I asked, confused. I glanced at the time; it was almost 9:00 PM.

"They said we'd meet at 8, but all I see is nothing. Seriously, is this some kind of-----" I was cut off by a voice behind me.

"What are you doing here?"

Startled, I turned around to see Marco! The footsteps I'd heard earlier had been his.

He was frowning at me, his hands in his pockets.

"I don't know. I received an anonymous message telling me to come here," I explained.

He laughed, but it felt like an insult. "You're so gullible. If someone tried to scam you, would you believe them right away?"

"Sorry, I'm only human. I make mistakes," I replied irritably.

"What are you doing here?" I asked him.

His brows furrowed "I should be the one to ask you that"

"I already told you my answer" I exclaimed

Even if I wanted to argue with him, there is no point. He is not the one I'm waiting for, the way he talks and acts it means he is not him...the person who gave me the bracelet

What's the point of the messenger if he is not even coming here? If only I knew this is some kind of prank then I won't be going here

This is really a waste of time, however how did Marco knew about this place? He even came here alone

I peaked a glanced at him but he seems to be very occupied. Well, he is a man I'm sure he is not afraid of coming here alone. Everyone knows about this place not only me, so I guess he just having his free time here
