Chapter 8, Part 2: Next-door Savior

Alissandra Cadence

I just got home from a very long day. I enjoyed hanging out with Elijah, this is the first time that I saw the brilliant smile on his face while riding that carousel. I imagine what his life felt like when his dad lost his attention to him. I'm too weak to handle that, yet Elijah withstands it all, he's so amazing.

I placed my bag on the table and ran upstairs to go change. Jeez, it's almost 10 PM and I'm still in a uniform. I changed already then went down to go wash my face and I felt a bit scared being alone in the house right now. I went to the bathroom and already washed my face and dried it with a towel. The atmosphere in the house was weird and scary. Since it feels a bit different that the house is so quiet. Well, we're not that noisy either, it just feels so unusual. I used to hear noises of mom cooking in the kitchen, dad fixing something downstairs, and et cetera. I was about to go up and go to bed already and -

BANG!

I quickly ran upstairs into my room as fast as I could. The noise came from the kitchen. It sounded like a pot just fell right into the ground with one solid noise. I just laid on my bed and covered my face with my blanket. I'm literally so scared, I'm having goosebumps. I just laid there quietly, expecting another noise. Few moments have passed and I'm almost falling asleep until I heard another noise - in my room!

I quickly got up and ran downstairs into the living room. Gawd, that woke me up entirely.

That's it, I'm done with this. I don't think I can sleep here peacefully tonight. I don't even know what it is, that's what scares me. I don't know what to do. I went out of the house to breathe and to calm myself. I glanced at Elijah's house and saw him in his living room. And that's when I got an idea. It's my only choice since I'm such a scaredy-cat.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

In just a second, the door opened and I never felt so relieved, I almost peed myself in my pajamas earlier.

"Oh, Alissa?" then his eyes squinted maybe because he's not wearing glasses or he's actually surprised. Then looked at me from head to toe. "I didn't know that "see you later" will actually be this soon," then he grinned. "So, why are you here?"

"Uhhh... It may seem a little funny but I can't really sleep at our house. It bothers me being alone and I just heard some...stuff," then I looked down.

"What stuff? Did someone broke into your house?" he asked.

I looked up at him. "No, I don't think so. But it's weird and I'm scared. So I rushed outside and thought about what to do and I saw you from outside."

"And?" then he stared at me while raising one eyebrow, waiting for me to say something.

"Yeah, do you mind if I - sleepover? Here? For the night? I need to wake up early in the morning because I have to go to school. I may not sleep well at our house tonight..." I then raised both my clasped hands to my chest. "Please?"

He stared at me for a second "I mean uh - yeah. Sure, why not?" then he opened the door completely. "Come in."

I went inside and sat on the couch. He looked at me and asked, "Are you not going to sleep yet?"

I mean I want to go to sleep now, but it's crazy. I somehow had second thoughts of going back and just forget about what happened but, I just - I'm way too scared.

"I uhh - I am. Let's go..." I said then followed him upstairs.

I just realized that this is my second time here, my second sleepover. What the frick...

"Okay, so... just like before. That side is mine -"

"And this is mine." I completed his sentence while pointing at my side.

He just smiled at me. He already went to his side and laid down already. I also sat on my side and realized that I don't have my phone with me. I remembered that I forgot to get it from my bag. Guess I'm sleeping early again. This is just so weird, but I'm kinda getting used to it. It's not so bad at all because we're just neighbors. I just laid down for a while, while staring outside the window. Until I fell asleep.
