Chapter fourteen: Connected

Through the walk, y/n felt clueless where Jay was taking her. she was following him ever since he said, "Come with me." Soon they reached the front of the teacher's room. she froze there. she was expelled an hour ago. the teacher wouldnt want to see her again.

He entered the room and kept the door open for her. at this point she had no choice left but to face it. they caught their teacher's attention as soon as they walked in. he stared confusely at y/n "Miss Lee, I thought I told you that you're expelled. How can you still be here without Permission."

Jay spoke before her, "she was with me this morning. there's no way she's responsible for ezra's state."

"And what proof do you have?"

"you didnt ask proof from ezra but from us? we can prove it to you if you check the cameras. " his last words were a trigger to the other. since they trusted the higher-up students so much, they didnt even bother to check if she was telling the truth or not. he checked the cameras and It was proved that y/n and ezra were never at the same place since morning. 

The room went silent when their guilty self kicked in. "shd lied about her state and false blamed y/n. will you not expelle her?" 

"Since the false accusation was harmless, we wont be punishing anyone." both were shocked to see them being this unjust. Jay was about to protest but y/n stopped him. he looked back to see her calm and relieved. she nodded with saying 'no more'. he got her sign and backed off. "Jayden.", the teacher sudden call freezed him. he didnt bother to look back.

"sit down, we need to talk. you were absent for more days than you requested." y/n knew it wasnt her concern and left.

fifteen minutes passed but there was still no sign of anyone walking out of the room. y/n kept waiting since she had a lot left to say to him. Just then, the door opened and Jay came into her view. he was also quick enough to notice her presence too. "you haven't left yet?" he asked while passing her.

"I wanted to give it back." she handed out a handkerchief for him to take. he looked at it to realise it was his own. "Keep it, you'll need it later if you let them keep troubling you."

"Why did you help me?" he stopped and slowly turned to stare at her "because...I've seen a lot like you. where the innocents were forced to feel guilty over something they never did."

"but you lied. . .you lied about being together." jay didnt answer any more of her questions and turned ahead. he sighs and whispers to himself, "I didnt."

Ezra went wild after the news came to her. She stomped her feet in anger. She wasnt someone who'll admit defeat so easily.

y/n noticed jay walking in front of her. she quickly stood by his side. once she reached him, her hand gently tapped his shoulder. "Jayden." he looked back and gave an annoyed look. "Is there anything else you want to ask me?"

"Thank you." he freezed. "thanks for helping me today. I dont think anyone else would've done that for me." there was silence between them as they tried to avoid eye contact. Just then someone called out to them from faraway. "y/n!! Jay!!". both looked back and saw Henry. she was brightned up in his presence while Jay cursed under his breath. He tried to hide his face and walk away, but too late.

Henry puts his arms around his shoulder and jumped up in excitement "hey buddy! glad to see you after a whole... month."

"You two know each other?", y/n stood there confused. "know each other? we're best buds." 

"Haha....not really.", Jay fake laughed and pushed the other away. "wait! you too?" this time Henry was the one confused.

As three of them walked down the road, Henry kept talking nonstop about his game while the other two silently listened. Out of blue, he stopped in his track. "I forgot something in the class." jay looked used to it so he walked ahead. "I'll be right back!", henry shouted while running back to where they came from.

It was now only y/n and Jay. they seemed quiet but the awkwardness was taking over them. they leaned against the wall as they kept waiting. he noticed someone from the other side waving at y/n. his eyes averted to the other who waved back at him,a name slipped out of her, "Thomas!"

A chill ran down his whole body and his mind went blank. He looked at the person crossing the road and walking in front of him. "thomas ...?", He repeated himself in question. The surrounding sounds disappeared. His gaze was focused only on the other two.

Thomas approached them with a bright smile. He patted y/n's head in greeting.

"you have a friend today." both of their attention shifted on jayden. He snapped out of his thoughts. "this is Jay."

"Pleasure to meet you." Thomas reached out for handshake. but the other could not look back. He didnt say anything on return either. both y/n and thomas were puzzled with his act. before they could ask more, jay walked away.

thomas took his hand back in embarrassment. But looking back, it quickly faded. "So...you coming for practise?" she simply nodded. "great, I'll see you then." Henry came back and found her standing alone. "where's Jay?"

"He left..."
