CHAPTER TWO :THE TOILET GLIMPSE

THE TOILET'S GLIMPSE?

Last night was shocking. I hardly blinked all night because of the fright. I get up with care stealthily to the bathroom cautiously to not wake up the lots. I enter my bathroom, closing the door behind me gently to avoid it creaking. I use the toilet, clean myself up then flush. Before I flush, I take a glimpse and my urine is concentrated. It then occurred to me that last night, I did not even gulp a glass of water.

'Hmm. I am about to get snooped I guess. Karma!' I end.

I walk a few steps till I get to the mirror hanging on the wall. The sink is natural in front of it.

'Spotless.' I laugh. Someone is also laughing with me. That same person also says the word 'spotless' to me in an alluring deep voice.

Am I hallucinating?

I take it that yesterday night's shock is still within me. I take a deep breath in and I breathe it out. The sink did catch my attention again, so I also say 'Spotless.' But this time I am not hallucinating. It is not the aftermath of last night's incident. I hear that voice. I am positive.

Consequently, my heart is beating hard and fast. My strength leaves me with force. I stagger but fortunately, I get a grip on the sink. I put my two hands on the pink sink where my toothbrush lies in a cup. My body still does not feel like mine. I can not describe what I fully feel but my body is still shaking as if I had taken Salbutamol.

My breathing is weak. I am still staring at the mirror. I am having a sharp headache. You know that sound you hear at night, the sound science taught us to be frogs seeking their mates, I hear that, loudly. I stagger once again and this time I manage to grab the handle on the wall, too close to the mirror. 'You...' I manage to say.

'How a...re y...ou...?' The pain in her chest makes me groan. It feels as if a hand refuses to let me live.

"Is this it?"

I can not breathe. I gasp for air. I groan in pain, wheezing.

This time I stagger again hitting the cup holding my toothbrush. I hit it so hard it ends in the water closet. My eyes began to see stars. My head starts to spin round and round. And I see again, what I saw in the mirror. My face squeezes. It becomes red. I faint.

I wake as though I had had a bad dream sweating profusely. I get up with full force sitting. 'Was that a dream?' I shake my head opposing all bad omens over and over again.

'Phewww.' I was shocked for a while.

'I thought he was...blaaaaaaa,' I blurt out laughing.

I stand up walking again close to the mirror at a double speed. I pick up my brush and cup from the water closet, put the toothpaste on the brush then start to brush my teeth softly like I was combing an unknown deep forest. After putting the toothbrush in my mouth, I spit out the foam from the paste and did it a second time then the third time. I rinse out. I put the cap on the sink, splash water on my face, and get in the bathtub. I get out of the bathroom after ten(10) minutes.

The lots are awake.

Staring at me as if I owe them. 'Hey, look.' I say trying to catch all of their attentions.

'I...am...not...your...mother. Did that sink in?...yo!...lots! Stupid fools.' I kick one of them hard. She ends up on the sofa.

'Will be back.' I said.

They look at me, thoughtlessly. I scoff, hard. I win.

I get out dressed in black jeans and shirt with a roughly made Cornrows. I take a sky blue blackbag to put in my laptop, phone, and journal. Any news could come my way. I switch off the fan and lights. I am taking them for a ride, a week's one. I did not pack. We all get in the car. I drive off.

She is fidgeting.

I am looking at her from my phone's screen. I can not miss all the fun you know.

She is still fidgeting like she has seen some ghost. Pacing around the house like Hajarah (an Arab woman in the early days who ran across two mountains back and forth seven (7) times) did.

I was in utter disgust. 'Just a daughter missing. A child who did not care about her at all. I just helped you.' I say those last words smiling very wide. The lots are too, happy. We were all joyous as if we had won the lottery.

Mrs. Feline did me well bringing you lots. I say in my mind.

I am still driving and at the same time looking at my phone. The cats are calm as I speak to them.

'We are going to see Feline, um, Han'. They seem to have understood me rubbing their furs with their feet. I am pleased.

'Who knew we would have bonded so well. From the very first day till this very day. Friendship!' I end.

Still going at sixty (60) miles per hour, I clutch the brakes fully making myself jerk and the lots fly forward.

What was that?

Who was that?

What did I just see?

The toilet's glimpse?

I sit in the driver's seat confused in the middle of nowhere. Barely any cars pass by. Trees are aligned on both sides of the road. And I am there, still in shock at what I think I just saw. The same thing that terrified me in the morning, in the toilet, in the mirror.

I look at the lots with fear, deranged. My breathing is weak. The air is cold. My lips are with parches. I speak to the lots telling them that I will be back soon. They are there untamed, lifeless. I guess it surprised them too.

I get out of the driver's seat shutting the car door. I walk slowly, forward propelling myself with what seems to be my last energy. I take a bat out of the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon's booth. I walk calmly still grasping to catch my breath. I walk for about two(2) minutes until I reach what seems to be alive.

Its back is hinged wearing what seems to be clothed. An armless blue cotton shirt and brown knicker shorts.

A human.

A vampire?

My imagination is running wild at this moment but I remain calm.

It is turning towards me still on the graveled coal floor. I tilt my head towards the right subsequently more than I can count.

I do not have the time for these shenanigans.

'Who are you?' I utter in loath.

The cross-bred creature faces me, directly. Glances at me briefly then stands up boldly.

I scoff.

'Father?'

WHERE'S MY DAUGHTER?
