Chapter 5 : The good news or the bad news.

I felt like my head was throbbing when I opened my eyes. What confused me even more was that I seemed to be in a corn field [ This doesn't look like my house....I've being kidnapped!? ]

I moved my hands and realized I was sitting on something lumpy. Frowning even deeper I looked down and saw a man. I screamed and scrambled off of him and far away " Who the hell are you? If you don't take me home, I'll call the police...No, I'll bury you alive ".

[ Why is the world against me so? ] The boy rubbed his head and stared at me. Then his poker expression turned to panic as he also crawled away from me.

I frowned again " What's wrong with you? How dare you run away from me "!? [ Wait, what am I saying? ] Scratching my head trying to remember what I was doing [ The book, the god damn book ]

I turned to the man who still seemed to be panicking [ What a big baby ] " Mister, did you see a book by any chance?...I mean before you blacked out ". The man shook his head and I groaned and cursed to myself at my situation.

[ I'm in so much trouble! I was seen by a human ] But then again, how exactly did I get here? It was a nice nap with a big warm fuzzy pillow on top of me but then it started moving and screamed at me [ More annoying than my alarm clock ]

But then it started kicking me and was now sitting very far away from me [ Will she really bury me alive?...Nah ] but I'm pretty sure she could try.

As I looked at her more closely with her greenish blonde hair and black eyes [ She seems to be a human...wait, she is a human! ] I panicked and crawled away from her, the distance between us a lot bigger.

[ Didn't she want me to stay away from her? Why is she complaining ] The bigger question was how and if I wanted to go back to the Storyteller Jurisdiction, I'd be an even bigger outcast than before.

I panicked even more when she asked me a question, I couldn't hear what she said and just shook my head. She then started mumbling to herself [ Are all humans so scary? ] " Wait, did you say book "?

She seemed to panic slightly when I spoke but she nodded earnestly. I quickly scrambled to my feet " We have to find that book ".

She nodded again and we started searching among the corn. We are both screwed without that book, like stuck eating corn together for a lifetime screwed. I can't let that happen [ She'd eat me or bury me alive like she said earlier....I need to find that book ]

I didn't trust myself not to embarrass myself in front of my kidnapper who seemed to have being abandoned here with me.

But as he spoke, his voice was like a soothing siren call [ I just wanna hear him talk ] Is that strange? It must sound weird but it's 'cos you didn't hear it.

He was talking about a book, what book? Then it snapped and I remembered the flying glowing book that I had a head on collision with [ You gave me a paper cut, I threw you on the floor. Sounds fair to me ]

Either way I had to find that book so the man with a sweet voice would have a reason to speak and I can destroy it.

All the big screens in Tess' invention room had turned red with the words WARNING, MALFUNCTION written boldly on it accompanied by the siren that was also giving off a red light.

Sal, Paul and Sarah burst into the office and saw Tess who was typing in commands into the computer. Sal ran up to her and raised his voice so she could hear him " What happened here "?

Tess didn't answer but bit her lip, trying to override the programming when it suddenly went off. Looking back. she realized that Paul had taken out the main power.

She heaved a sigh of relief as Paul frowned slightly " What the hell happened in here "? Tess turned back to the computer " We have good news and we have bad news. Which do you want to here first "?

Sal raised his glasses higher " The good news ". Tess smiled tiredly, " The good news is I've being able to stop project SOS from going haywire ". Paul squinted his eyes " Then what's the bad news "?

Tess turned away from him, scratching the back of her head " The girl's gone guys ". Sarah suddenly spoke, obviously confused " What do you mean gone "? Tess made a mini explosion with her hands " You heard what I said, POOF she's gone. Completely disappeared from the database ".

Paul's frown deepened as he rubbed his temples " Then how does that have anything to do with project SOS "? Tess seemed serious as she spoke " You probably won't believe me, even if I told you ".

Paul growled slightly " Just tell us woman ". Tess sighed " Project SOS has supposedly eaten Sydney Tucker and disappeared ". The others were obviously not expecting that and couldn't believe their ears but as they stared at each other, their confusion was obvious.

But now they had bigger problems [ How do we bring Sydney back? ]
