Preparations for War

Wolf had been keeping an eye on the enemy. The fleet was due to return in only a matter of Earth days. But that wasn't the most pressing matter.

The Adjutant was preparing to leave his ship.

'Anna.' He called her through her implant. 'Anna, wake up.'

She stirred but she was too deep in her sleep to respond. Wolf could activate the rig's alarm system, but the eventual investigation as to what caused the alarm to start would reveal that Wolf had more freedom than the residents knew. It could cause problems for himself and Anna.

Wolf took advantage of an automatic door in a security room and closed it halfway as someone was walking through. His plan worked. The man, in an attempt to quickly dodge the unexpected closure, accidentally hit a button and activated the rig alarm.

*BREEEEEE BREEEEEE BREEEEEE*

The blaring sound woke anyone still sleeping. Including Anna.

"Wolf! What's going on?" She sat up and asked.

'My Moon. The enemy is preparing to attack. You must get to my mech as soon as possible!'

Anna didn't waste a moment. She ran out of the multi-resident abode with her new black pilot suit only halfway on. Confused residents emerging from their homes watched her run by without a clue as to the reason for the sudden alarm.

Wolf gave Anna a few commands to follow once she reached the cockpit. He told her that his freedom from the mech should be hidden to protect themselves. That she should contact some of the brass and tell them that she was in the cockpit when the alarm went off and that an enemy was detected in the atmosphere.

She followed his suggestions to a T. With permission, the mech began to move. Before stepping onto the cargo elevator, they backed up to a larger hanger that equipped the mech with extra armor, weapons, and equipment for the upcoming encounter.

Ready and waiting for the cargo elevator to take them up, a pause drew concern.

"Captain?" Anna called over the intercom. An image of the normally grumpy Captain showed up on her HUD. He had one hell of a grin on his face.

"We aren't sending you out alone."

The three familiar humanoid mechs started up and joined her on the elevator. An image of Wrench overlapped the one of the Captain.

"We got your back." He said.

Anna felt some of the pressure lift off of her shoulders. She smiled.

"Thanks."

Wrench nodded and closed his comms.

As the cargo elevator slowly rose up, she could see panels behind the mech hangars slide up. More humanoid mecha began to emerge. They began to line up to take the elevator ride up next.

"How many are there?" Anna asked out loud with no intended recipient of her words.

"Forty-seven." The Captain replied, his comm line still open. "Not including the three prototypes with you right now. Another will be finished in a couple of hours."

Anna couldn't help but smile again. This rig really did seem like the true source of hope for the world.

The cargo elevator was moving slower than usual, but that may have been due to a near maximum weight capacity.

"Remember, my Moon, the added-ed equipment will be ejected when using the P-Protocol. Make sure you are either out of extra ammo and weapons, or-or-or you are in dire need of the extra speed and power-speed and power of the transformation before activating it."

"Got it." She responded. "Thanks, Wolf."

The servant brought the cleaned pilot suit to his Adjutant as requested. The Adjutant opened all six of his eyes in gleeful surprise.

"Yeeeesss! It's time!"

The Adjutant stood tall and removed his robe. He had a slender body with greasy olive green skin, reverse joint legs, no toes on his feet, and two hidden arms behind his back.

The servant held open the leg of the suit for the Adjutant to step into. As he did, he moved his foot in an attempt to fit all the way in, doing so had accidentally kicked the servant a little ways away.

"Other leg." The Adjutant demanded. The servant ran over and held the other leg of the suit open and tried to stretch his arms further away. He successfully avoided the kick this time around.

"Arms!" Was his next demand. With a couple of snaps from his fingers, the servant summoned a curved platform that lowered down to the ground, allowing him to step onto it. It then raised itself and he brought the right arm of the suit up with him, collecting his Adjutant's hand and arm inside the sleeve as the platform rose up to the giant's shoulder.

After getting all four arms into the sleeves, the platform rotated around to the front so that the servant could zip it up.

The Adjutant pushed the hanging platform away as he began to stride forward, nearly causing the servant to fall off.

The Adjutant made his way to the hangar where his battle suit was waiting for him. The back was open, allowing for easy access. He stepped in, slid his arms into the sockets, and rested his face in the helmet. The rear hatches began to close behind him, his rear arms sliding into their respective slots while he began powering up his suit.

In his suit, he felt invincible. The Adjutant made his way back to the control room to check on a few things before taking the fight to the rogue A.I. and the Earthlings.

A message was awaiting a response on his personal console.

"Damn!" He exclaimed as he smashed the console with his fist.

"Fix that while I'm gone." He pointed at the nearest servant. He then ran through the door and found an emergency hatch. His fingers worked quickly to input a code, the hatch opened and a few servants were sucked out into the void of space as he passed through and a few more before the hatch closed behind him.

His suit's screen showed an incoming threat. The rogue A.I. beat him to the punch. He was about to turn on a communication line to the command center to tell his servants to look for a leak in the system that an A.I. could exploit. But…

*beep* *beep*

Multiple contacts were on the radar.

*beep* *beep*

*beep* *beep* *beep*

Even more contacts.

*beep* *beep* *beep

*beep* *beep* *beep* *beep*

*beep* *beep* *beep

*beep* *beep* *beep* *beep*

*beep* *beep*

Even more still.

"The inferior species found a way to make that many units in this short amount of time? How?" He wondered.

Upon closer inspection, his suit's A.I. determined that only one unit was a real threat, the others were no more a threat than a git. A git being his planet's equivalent to the Earth fly.

The Adjutant aimed an arm toward the incoming armada of mechs. A tube on his suit's arm raised up and started charging up an orange ball of energy. It released, it began to spiral and left multiple trails of energy behind it. The ball split into at least a dozen more and rained down toward the Earth. Most of the balls were dodged easily, with one exception. A single target was decimated in a gigantic explosion on contact.

He started to charge up another shot when a notification popped up. He clicked his tongue.

"I thought I had more time. Oh well. I guess it's back to the original plan."

The fleet had arrived.
