Episode 9- What is the Concept of Magic?

Shito and Tenka arrived at their class together and they received stares from all the students. The students were shocked to see the two students who were at odds with each other walking to school together.

Stopping in front of the classroom, Shito just stood there because he was not assigned a seat the previous day. Her challenging him to a duel stopped him from hearing what the teacher had to say to him.

Tenka looked back at him, wondering why he was standing in the middle of the classroom. They had to take their seats before the teacher got back in and he was just standing there. Not even a single emotion was present on his face, and he did not really care about the other students that were sitting in the classroom.

…I thought about making friends with the students in this class, but I changed my mind. I don't want to be friends with anyone in this class and the only person I am going to communicate with is the Vermillion princess, and that is because we live in the same dorm, and I do not want to live in an unbearable environment.

"Why are you just standing there? We need to go sit down."

"I didn't get my assigned seat yesterday… so I have to wait until the teacher gets here."

Looking at him, Tenka walked towards him and grabbed his hand, guiding him to the back of the classroom where her seat was. The seat he was going to be sitting in was the one that was next to hers, and she was going to make sure that he was sitting beside her.

I want this guy to sit beside me…! One of the reasons is he isn't annoying to be around because of the lack of talking he has with people. Another reason would be that he isn't that bad to look at either.

There was not much to be said about anything Tenka was doing, he felt like it was fine since she was guiding him to a seat that was by her. Shito did not want to be around the other students because he was not planning to become friends with the other students.

When they arrived at the seats that were located at the back of the classroom, Tenka sat down in her seat. There was no way she was going to let him sit down by anyone else other than her. Noticing that the only seat that was beside her was still empty, she looked up and saw Shito just standing in front of her.

"...Don't take all day to sit down…! This right here is your new seat."

"...Ok."

With that, Shito sat down beside the Vermillion princess not caring about the stares he was receiving from the other boys in the class. It wasn't like that would say anything to him since he beat the class's 'strongest' student.

"Do you like sitting beside me?"

"I mean… There is no reason for me to dislike sitting beside you."

Every word he spoke out of his mouth was the complete truth. The girl he was sitting beside was the best-looking girl in their class and she had good grades, she was an honor student. Who would not want to sit with the best student in the class?... The answer was simple, everyone in the class wanted to sit beside her because of how cute she was and how smart she was. Now that Shito had arrived at the school, there was a student that was good enough to walk by her side.

"That's good, I'm glad you don't dislike me!"

After saying that, Tina walked into the classroom and looked at all the students that were sitting down waiting for her. As soon as they saw her walk into the classroom, the students grew silent. They knew that they should be quiet because despite how weak their teacher looked, she was still a mage with a lot of experience.

"Good morning class! it is time for us to get this class started!" Tina said, looking at her class. "Today we are going to talk about the mages and the concept of magic."

The class looked at her wondering why she was teaching them something so hard, they had not learned anything like that, even in the two weeks they had been at the academy. The only two students that knew what she was talking about were Shito and Tenka.

"What do you mean by the 'concept of magic'?!" A random male student said, looking at the teacher who was standing directly in front of the classroom. He was wondering what the teacher was talking about, they all knew how to use magic, but learning 'the concept of magic' was new to everyone in the entire class.

Tina looked at the students and shook her head, "First let us start with what magic truly is. Magic is the power to influence the course of events by a mysterious power. So, if magic is this so-called 'mysterious power,' then why could everyone use this mysterious power? Why were there no limits placed on these mysterious powers?" Tina asked the class as they were looking at her in shock.

The whole class was lost in thought, they did not know how to go about answering the question that the teacher just asked them.

Tenka raised her hand, since neither of the other students knew the answer to the question, she was going to answer the question. Unlike the other students she learned things from her family's home, they had all kinds of things the way the so-called 'truth of the world.'

"That would be possible because of mana. Mana is the cost we pay to use the magic spells… but since this world is said to hold an infinite amount of mana then there is no true price of using mana," Tenka said, "...A force of power that penetrates the entire world, a power that denies the laws of reality."

"That's correct, as expected you really know your stuff," Tina said as she started to clap her hands. "Now I want to ask you, what is the concept of mana?"

"Concept of Mana? What is the true meaning behind the magic we wield?" Shito asked, getting the attention of everyone in the class. "If these said concepts existed then where were they located? …The truth to that answer is simple because a concept exists in everything in the world. The justice system itself is a concept that places a set of rules on the world that dictates our reality. There are all types of concepts with some being good or bad. So, which kind of concept could we classify magic as? The answer is simple magic is a concept that holds several types of concepts."

Everyone in the class looked at him, confused, not understanding a single word he just said. But two people could understand everything he just said, they wanted to know his reasons for the explanation he gave because they wanted to know how he came to that conclusion.

Tina looked at Shito with a completely serious expression, it was as if she was mad at someone and she opened her mouth to speak, "How did you come to that conclusion?"

"Well, it is simple really… We got to understand what the word 'concept' really means. Concept true meaning is an abstract idea, but with that alone, it wouldn't allow us to understand what a concept truly is, we would have to dig a little deeper." Shito said, without a single hesitation in his speech. "We got to figure out what abstract means. Abstract means something that exists as an idea or thought that does not have a physical body or form. Once a thought of something is present magic can become possible to use via mana. What would happen if everyone were to forget how to use mana?"

'What would happen if everyone were to forget how to use mana?' was the question that lingered in the minds of the students. There was not a single person who knew how to answer the question and some of the students were in deep thought, trying to process everything he was saying.

Nobody could really keep up with a genius student other than a student who would be classified as a genius. Tenka understood everything he was saying, and she was processing the information faster than everyone in the classroom counting the teachers.

"To put the answer in a simple one… Magic would cease to exist. If people forgot that magic could be used, then it would fade away." Tenka said. "...Magic is a thought of wanting something to form, the desire to have something granted. While sometimes people say it is inherited, that is not really the case. The affinity for elements could be inherited but the will to use magic truly grants you the ability to use magic… Be it for good intentions or bad intentions"

Suddenly the bell rang, dismissing all the students from the classroom. Tenka instantly got up and grabbed Shito, running out of the classroom so they could go to the cafeteria room, so the two could hurry up and eat their food together. The school's food was made by some of the best chefs in the world, so of course, she was in a rush to show him the 'possible' best foods in the world.

Tina looked at them as Tenka ran off, dragging Shito behind her, there was nothing she could say to the two genius students. They were smart enough to give logical answers.

Geniuses! …Those two students are geniuses! A group of people that could find the truth of something just by analyzing it with their eyes!

With that, class had finally been dismissed for a while because lunch break started. All the students had already left the classroom, leaving the teacher sitting in the classroom by herself. Everyone was heading to the lunchroom, they had to hurry up and get their food and sit down, eat lunch, and then come back to class after the bell rang again to start class.
