Chapter 6: Shadows of My Past(Emily)

I walked beside Tyler, the moonlit path casting eerie shadows on the ground. His questions about chaos magic still lingered in my mind.

As we strolled through the academy's gardens, Tyler's curiosity turned to me. "Emily, what's your story?"

My heart skipped a beat. How much could I reveal?

"I grew up in a world of shadows," I began, my voice barely above a whisper. "My family...they were part of a secret organization."

Tyler's eyes widened. "What kind of organization?"

I hesitated, unsure how much to share. "They dealt with...magic. Dark magic."

The words felt like a betrayal, but Tyler's genuine interest put me at ease.

"My parents were powerful Empaths," I continued. "They taught me control, how to sense emotions without being overwhelmed."

Tyler nodded, his gaze encouraging.

"But there was more. A darker side. They used me...to manipulate others."

My voice cracked, memories flooding back.

"I escaped," I said, the words tasting bitter. "I found refuge with Mrs. Emits. She helped me rebuild."

Tyler's hand brushed mine, a gentle gesture.

"I'm sorry, Emily," he whispered.

I forced a smile. "You don't have to be. I'm here now. With you."

As we walked on, the shadows seemed less daunting.

For the first time, I felt like I'd found a true ally.
