Chapter 9

Evan follows Rene to the car.

“Any preference on food, allergies I should know about?” Rene asks when they get in the car.

“No allergies. I don’t really like fancy food, otherwise I’m good. You can pick. I don’t know what places you have locally,” Evan says.

“Drive through okay?” Rene asks.

Evan isn’t dying to go sit in a restaurant with a man who doesn’t like him, in a city where he’s the only human and will be treated like a freak. And he wants to be able to dive into his work as quickly as he can, so he nods, and Rene starts driving.Chapter 3

A teen hands over their food at the drive through, eyes bulging as he looks at Evan. He probably hasn’t seen a human before. Evan doesn’t seem to notice the kid staring and just holds the food Rene passes him.

Rene pays and gets back on the road, driving back to his place.
