Chapter Four

Kapasok na kapasok ko ng mall sa Westside agad na akong sinalubong ng text ni Darren. Medyo malayo pa daw sila kaya mag hintay nalang daw ako somewhere para daw hindi ako ma bored. Nakalimutan niya atang babae yung girlfriend, i'll always find a way to make my time worthwhile.

Buti nalang din at merong mall sa hotel na to. Pwede muna akong mag paayus ng nails ko habang hinihintay si Darren but before that, I should probably hit the ladies room kasi kanina ko pa na fefeel yung pantug ko. I'm pretty sure that this is all becaus eof the coffee that I drank awhile ago. Usually naman every floor sa mall na to merong atleast two lounges for their private members and I happen to be one of those people kaya doon ako dumerecho kailangan ko na ding mag retouch bago kami magkita ni Darren. I can't let him think na pinapabayaan ko na yung sarili ko. He likes taking care of me and if he sees me looking so down and well hagard, he always pampers me then lets me go on a day off para lang makapag relax. Sometime he is too much pero there are times that I really appreciate na meron siyang side na ganun.

I went in to one of the stalls a friends of mine owns, hoping na baka nandun siya para din mabisita ko siya. Napaka hands-on niya din kasi when it comes sa business niya kaya naniniwala akong half of the time na meron siya tinatalaga niya sa pag mamanage ng boutique niya.

"Good Afternoon Ma'am, welcome to LaVVida" one of the sales lady greets me with as full blown smile on her face. I smiled in return, knowing that this workers don't usually get the kindest response everytime. Hindi ko naman nilalahat pero parang minsan kasi ang hirap sa iba ang mag smile back man lang kapag nababati sila,. For the past few years that I've been in the Philippines, I've encountered situations that made me feel so appreciative of the sales lady. They are working almost eight hours a day, standing and waiting for customers to arrive, they also have to master up a smile kahit pa masasakit na yung nga paa nila, and what do other people do, shun them away. I mean gets ko naman and maybe I'm being sensitive about this but, a simple smile wont cause money, in fact its too easy to do and it wont exactly hurt you. The world needs a lot of kindness and you can always start by simply smiling to anyone and everyone you encounter.

LaVVida is actually an international brand for cosmetics, so far madami nadin branches tong shop and a lot of good reviews about their product is circulating the social media industry. Halos ata din ng youth this days nagiging mga beauty guru nadin kaya talagang gamit na gamit yung mga producto nila. Vanya was not here so i'm guessing she on another branch.

"Ano ba naman yan? I already told you, I always buy the same shade, hindi naman ito yun" may biglang sumigaw sa loob ng boutique, iilan lang namang kaming nasa loob ng shop kaya hindi maiwasang marinig ng lahat yung pag sigaw nung babae. "Bakit mo ba pinipilit na iba yung sinasabi ko, mas alam mo pa ba kesa sakin kung anong gusto at ayaw ng mukha ko, obviously hindi diba. I have a very sensitive skin and I know exactly the color of the one i´m looking, at hindi ito yun¨pagpapatuloy nung babaeng matanda na rin, maybe around forty´s. The sales lady who welcomed me awhile ago went to aid her fellow sales lady and the rest of the people inside the shop started watching and listening to whats happening. "Alam mo, mas mabuti pa, boss mo nalang ang kakausapin ko. That way malaman niya din na kapag wala siya umaasta ng inutil yung mga nagtitinda niya dito." At tuluyan na ngang nagtaray si ale. Hindi niya man lang hinayaang mag explain yung sales lady, she just went on and embarrass the poor lady.

"Ma'am wala po kasi yung boss namin ngayon, but if possible po ma settle po natin ito in a calm way. I'm the manager of this place and I can help you sort out whatever you need" The lady who welcomed me awhile ago explains and covers for her fellow worker. It is a managers job to straighten things out anyway, so she's doing the right thing.

"I don't care what position you have here, I only care doon sa quality ng training na ginagawa ninyo sa mga staff niyo. Kung ikaw yung manager neto, that only means na half ng katangahan ng babaeng to galing din sayo." Of course, pinoy na pinoy, always with the drama.

"Ma'am huminahon po kayo, marami napo kayong naaattract.na attention. Maybe we can go inside my office po then we can talk privately, if you really want to talk too my boss, then we can call her to my office" sinubukang amuhin ng manager yung galit na matanda but then again, nothing seems to be working and kesa sa maging cease fire na, parang nagiging war zone pa lalo yung shop ni Vanya.

"Ma'am, ako na po yung humihing ng pasensya. Bago lang po kasi ako dito at yung protocol po kasi namin pagpo hindi maalala ni customer yung product na hinahanap, pwede naman po namin ipakita sainyo lahat nung shades na babagay din po sa natural skin color ninyo. Yun lang naman po ang ginagawa ko at hindi niyo din po kasi maalala kung anong shade yung madalas niyo pong binibili" I can see na sinubukang lumapit nung sales lady na nag aasikaso sakanya kanina pero bago pa man to makalapit ng tuluyan, binigwasan na siya nung matanda at tiningnan ng nanlilisik na mga mata.

"HOW DARE YOU TOUCH ME?" Pasigaw na sabi ng matanda na agad naman ikinagulat ng karamihan na nasa loob ng shop. I'm even beginning to think na meron ng mga ibang customer dito na wala talaga kanina nung nag sastart palang yung gulo. This is so basic now a days, kung nasan ang gulo, nandoon and mga people. Obviously not stop them, but to just capture some clips para maging viral at maging active nanaman ang mga social media warriors. "Alam mo kanina pa talaga ako na iinis sayo eh, wala ka ng ibang ginawang tama, puro ka palpak. You should be ashamed that you are standing in this shop, you don't belong in this place. Ang dapat sayo sa palengke, doon ka nababagay. Ineng, high class people yung mga maeencounter mo dito, pagkatapos ganyang serbisyo yung ibibigay mo?! My God, ang ganda ganda ng umaga ko tapos sisirain mo lang" akala ko tapos na siyang magsalita and I was about to intervene because the old lady was acting too much, kung makapag react kasi siya para siyang binantaan na patayin. Kaso nung magsasalita na dapat ako, bigla niya naman ngayon tinuro yung manager ng store "At ikaw, nagmamagaling ka kanina pero di mo naman nagawang pigilan tong staff mo, muntik niya na akong hawakan at nandyan kalang nakatingin at naghihintay. You should teach your people where to stand and what to do. My gosh, I wont let this actions pass, I will definitely make your boss fire you two because you both don't deserve this kind of job" after her fuming hot rants, two guards came in and saw what was happening, one of them pinuntahan yung nagkaproblema while the other one tried making the watchers go away and just leave. I was still scanning through the rows of Palettes kaya di ako nasama sa mga pinaalis and I wasn't planning too.

"Ma'am, pasesya napo pero kailangan po namin kayo dalhin sa opisina namin, bawal po kasi kayong gumawa ng eskandalo dito at meron napong nagreklamo sainyo sa taas. Doon nalang po natin aregluhin yung gulo po ninyo ma'am" Pagpapaliwanag ng security guard sa ale. Nung una nagulat pa siyang siya talaga yung pinunta nung mga security guard the next thing she did was to walk rapidly towards me.

"Ikaw siguro yung nagreklamo no, how despicable?! Kaya pala kanina kapa nagmamasid samin yun pala nirereklamo mo na ko sa mga taong to. Don't you know who I am, how dare you accuse me of causing a scene without finding out the real story, bakit hindi itong mga tanga tangahang staff yung ipahuli mo kasi sila yung nababagay na hulihin" She just assumingly accused me of something I would probably do but I didn't yet because I was planning a different approach. If looks could kill, I could have been dead by now but I was never that easy to back down. Hanap buhay ko kaya yung pakikipag sagutan.

"I'm so sorry to burst your bubble Mrs, But I wasn't the one who told the security department about your little show. Though I wouldn't say, I didn't think of calling you off because you were being such a drama queen. The situation could have been handled without causing much, much chaos" I was never raised to fight back to elders, sunod sunoran nga ng tatay diba. But that doesn't mean I wont fight back if I know na nasa tama naman ako. Plus this lady deserve a taste of her own medicine.

"What did you just say?! Are you saying na mas pinapaburan mo pa tong mga babaeng to? Didn't you just see how they answered me and made me so mad at the point na pwede nako ma high blood. You were here the whole time and yet you are telling me that I was being the drama queen. Young lady, naguumpisa kapalang, pabalik nako. So don't tell me that things could have been handles differently when its obvious that theres no other way for this girls to learn their lesson. They made a mess so they have to pay for it. Thats how the world works and if you want to survive you have to follow the flow" She smirks like she somehow won the battle. Its true na matanda na siya at bata lang kami and maybe she does know the ways to success. But that doesn't give her the right to make anyone feel less of themselves.

"For someone who is truly old and "mature", your acting like kid. So ano ngayon kung alam mo na yung sekreto sa mundo? May nagtatanong ba sayo nun? And even if by some miracle you end up being the person who could teach us what we are supposed to do in this world since we are just starting. I'd rather fall down deep than listen to any of your nonsense because you Ma'am" I stepped forward to show that i'm taller than her so syempre talagang titingala siya sakin, petty, I know but I'm trying to make a point here kaya dont judge. "You reek of nothing but immaturity. Para kang spoiled brat na ninakawan ng manika at ngayon nag tatantrums ka kasi di mo makuha kuha yung gusto mo. You only have the upper hand because you were born earlier but that doesn't make you high and mighty. And honestly speaking, kahit sino kapa, no one really cares. You caused a scene and someone hated it so someone reported you. That only means that I'm not the only one who thinks that you were being childish. So don't blame me for your lack of manner. And by the way, that lady over there"I pointed at the manager who greeted me and protected her coworker "Shes not stupid, when you first started complaining, she came right away to assist you of your needs. But you shut her off. She acted more mature than you when she decided to still help you and you decided to degrade her and make her feel like shes the one who's wrong here. And you that other lady you just called as someone who doesn't deserve to be here" I reminded her of the lady she almost chew out "Trust me when I say this. Mas deserve niya pang gamitin yung sapatos mong kayang magpakain ng kalahati ng naghihirap na mga tao. The fact that shes working the best she can makes her more deserving than someone who only complains on every little detail and feeds off their husbands. You are just a leech, and you know what happens to leeches when blood runs out?" I saw a glint of fear cross her eyes as I came closer "They eventually fall". I sweetly smiled not wanting her to ruin my day, I also know na marami nako masyadong nasabi but she made another mistake when she suddenly slaps me and everyone gasped. Two of the guard came right aways sa side nung matanda para hawakan siya but it was too late, the mistake has been made and there no more turning back now.

"You blame me of causing you to face this situation, but you didn't think twice about asking who and what really happened? It was so easy for you to put the blame and someone because you know that you can just easily get pass it because of who you are." Napatawa ako after kong sabihin to, I didn't care that my face was hurting because of her slap, I only want her to realize what she just did. "You ruined your own self. Every boutique, stalls and restaurants in this hotel is placed with monitoring cameras place specifically and carefully on areas that can collect enough view point. Meaning, tatagalugin ko para maintindihan mo. Bawat sulok na hotel na to naka monitor, mapa corner pa yan or pinaka madilim na bahagi na hotel, lahat nakikita. The moment you arrived in this place up to this point lahat yun naka record. And i'm willing to bet that the reason this two guys over here came to get you and literally wanted to drag you out, was not because someone rat you out" I smirked "But because your showing too much face right now and someone might recognize you causing your dear old husband to lose his face. This is simple protocol and a simple hide the culprit game, but you still went too far and caused more damage. Now, theres about a whole hour of your footage causing a scene, and i'm willing to bet that your husband is on his way here now to get that footage and save your little families name." I've always known na eto talaga yung situation, someone must have tipped off this ladies husband and ordered them to seize her before she causes anymore trouble, sadly she didn't get the memo so she only made things worst.

I know this system because one I work at a company that literally holds a thousands of secrets from people who comes to us and second because i'm pretty good at reading people. If this was really a serious go capture the person causing a scene, dapat yung isang guard kanina hindi na nag effort na paalisin yung mga tao at ipa delete yung mga nakunang pictures. I know because I was observing. Thats also the reason why I pretended like I'm still looking for something to buy. Pag ganun kasi wala namang choice yung guard kung hindi ang hayaan ako.

"Ikaw mismo, you are being careful not to speak of your name in front of so many people kahit pa ilang beses mo pa sinabing hindi kaba namin kilala? You didn't really mention your name. Usually kasi its an impulse, pag-galit ka and you keep on talking, ranting, you easily speak of things na hindi naman dapat. Its in your mind, but because you were also being protective of who you are, you didn't dare speak of your name. Plus, this is also another way for you right?" I feel like i'm playing darts while I keep pointing out their tiny little mistakes "You kept asking us if we know who you are because you are also trying to pinpoint any person that could potentially ruin your image, when no one did say they know you, you took this as an opportunity para maghasik ng lagim" Everyone in the shop was obviously amazed. Kahit pa hindi sigurardo kung tama nga ang mga sinabi ko, sobrang halata naman na merong point ang lahat ng sinabi ko. I'm really good at reading people because it comes with the nature of my own work kaya kahit pa mag deny sila, alam nila, na alam ko, na pwedeng ko silang kasuhan kahit ano pa man ang maging take nila sa sinabi ko. I was slapped and there no hiding it because it was caught in every camera in this room. Kahit pa itago sakin ng hotel security yung footage, I can easily extract it on our server. This hotel is one of our clients anyways. So wala ng takas sakin si ale kahit ano pang gawin niya

"MOM!" Biglang merong isang teenager na babaeng patakbong pumunta side nung ale at agad niya itong niyakap. "What happened? sabi ni dad mag lalunch lang tayo with someone then he suddenly told me that we have a change of plans and that its because of you" Right in queue bigla nalang ding may dumating na lalaking matipuna at medyo matanda na rin pero mukhang iniingatan ang sarili. He was dress in a formal suit, like the ones you use for meetings and funeral. Well he is wearing one.

Judging by the way he is looking to his wife, he was not happy of what was happening. Without causing another scene, he calmly walks toward me then grabs something inside his pocket and the I smiled after realizing what it was. Etong pamilyang to, seryosong may topak sa mga utak.

"Are you seriously signing a check right now? Do i look like someone who needs money?" I exasperated because I was getting exhausted of this family. Meron pa pala talagang pamilyang ganito. Hindi marunong mag isip. Utak 'Let the money talk'.

"Well if its not money, then what do you need?" The two guards who was once with us are now both guarding the entrance preventing anyone from approaching and witnessing this sick exchange. "I can give you anything you want, just tell me what you need and I'll have it ready for you. This is my apology for my wifes actions, i hope that we can settle this without going to court" he suggested and I am so done speaking to this family. They are both the same.

"Jana..." A familiar voice comes to my side then he looks at the people around us "Mr. Martin? Wait you know each other?" Darren eyes me then the guys in front of me, Mr. Martin. He then turns me thats when he saw whats on my face. "What the hell happened to your face? who did this and why the hell are still standing here? Your cheeks are red as a tomato? Don't you need ice for this kind of things? And why didn't you call me? What the hell happened to you? I was calling you the moment we arrived here and you weren't answering. I had to search for you with the help of Douglas and then I was led to the staffs main way para lang mahanap ka kaagad. Tapos eto maaabutan ko" He was obviously worried because he was ranting and he is lierally over doing it. Kaya pala nakapasok siya kasi sa employees exit siya pumasok, so totoo ngang naka separate ung dinadaanan nila, now I know and it a good to know. But back to the situation at hand, I almost forgot that I was mad because Darren was this close to me and he is always my happy pill.

"Mr. Laquesta, I am deeply sorry. My wife didn't know that she was your girlfriend and they had a misunderstanding. Kakarating ko lang din halos at humihingi ako ngayon ng paumanhin kay miss?" Mr. Martin now looks at me obviously hindi niya alam yung pangalan ko because yung una niyang ginawa ka rating niya is offer me money to keep my mouth shut.

"Janette Sanchez" I spoke with confidence, alam ko na kahit papaano my family name is way better than theirs.

"Kay miss Sanchez by offering her my capabilities. She can choose whatever she wants and I can give it to her" He explains like its nothing for him. Like this is all just normal, witnessing this, its making me want to choke the man to death and the woman bleed all over. I hate people who thinks money can solve everything. They become greedy and monstrous. They forget what being a human really means because for them, nothing matters as long there are enough money to keep them going.

"Again do I look like that kind of a person?" I was mad again and Darren can pretty much feel that.

"Wait...wait" he finally spoke and sobrang halata na ngayon niya lang narerealize yung nangyayari "Your wife slapped my girlfriend and now you expect everything to be okay by paying her by giving her what she wants?" We all nodded and pag kilala mo na si Darren, there is one thing we have in common and that we dislike people who thinks like them. So it was no surprise na bigla nalang nagiba as aura ni Darren. "I have to ask? Why did you slap Jana Mrs. Martin? did she somehow offend you or anything?" Darren is always fair as well even to this kind of situation.

"She was being nuisance. I just needed to teach her a lesson. All of them must learn where they stand in the society!" Mrs. Martin aka BRATTY old lady, talks with her daughter still on her side, listening to all our conversation.

"And wheres that Mrs. Martin?" Darren confirm sounding confident as ever.

"At the bottom of course. where else? What they need to do is serve us well hanggang sa maging satisfied tayo. What they did today was just humiliate me and make me a villainous person." Galit na sabi ni Mrs. Martin. Darren made a move then faces mr. Martin.

"I'm sorry Mr. Martin. Its seem like i've been so busy with work later that I wasn't paying attention to who I was talking to all this time. I can't let the influence of your company come to mine. The deal is off, if you people can't do as mush as say sorry on your own mistakes or just even show any remorse. You will never succeed high reigns. I was really hoping I could work with you but I can't work with people who doesn't possess any kind of kindness in them." Mr. Martin was speechless for a second then he suddenly rushes to Darrens side.

"Please Mr. Laquesta lets not be so rush on this matter. Why don't we go to our reservation first and talk business, we can't mix emotion on our profession" Desperation. Yun at yun lamang ang natatanging dahilan kung bakit pinipilit ni Mr. Martin si Darren na ituloy pa din ang business deal nila. Though I agree that we shouldn't mix emotion on anything that involves our business, but I do get why Darren is being such a hard person about this. Gaya nga ng sabi ko, we are almost the same in thinking and attitude. How can we trust someone when they can't even act as a human. But maybe we can still do something about their ways.

"Darren, maybe you should try listening to him first. As for this lady over there. I'll think of another way of making you understand by the end of the meeting. You should probably understand now that i'm not someone that you can easily mess with. First you need to apologize sa dalawang babaeng pinahiya mo. Gawin mo to because your kid is watching you and if she doesn't see you in this light, she will just follow you and your despicable personality. I'm pretty sure ayaw mo ding lumaki yung anak mong kinakamuhian ng halos" Mr. Martin looks at me the Mrs. Martin acted like she didn't want to do what I was asking her to do so the next thing we saw was Mr. Martin dragging his wife towards the two employees and made her say her sorry.

"Go on now, say your sorry or else we will lose every chance that we have" Pagpupumilit ni Mr. Martin sa asawa.

I don't really have the slightest idea kung ano yung nangyayari sa business nila, provided that this is also the first time that i'm meeting this family. But judging by the events that just occurred it seems like they are in great need of help. If this goes on, maybe we can truly bend their ways.

"I apologize for causing you trouble and pain. I didn't mean to speak those nonsense awhile ago" Mrs. Martin finally spoke an the two ladies didn't say anything else, though sobrang halata na labas sa ilong yung mga sinabi ni Mrs. Martin, the thought that she said sorry was enough for me now. I approached Darren and he automatically engulf me in his arms.

Mr and Mrs Martin came back to us and this time I just pinched Darren to side hoping he'd understand what I was telling him to do. Darren looks at me then he nods.

"I'll give you another chance Mr. Martin. We can proceed with the deal but only if we see the proposal feasible. I supposed your daughter witnessed enough for today so i'm hoping that during lunch, magiging civilized tayo sa isa't isa and no more drama, do we have an understanding?" Darren proposed, of course he would want to drag on this events until later so he has to make a compromise, a cease fire para lang masiguradong smooth ang transaction na magaganap naman between him and mr. Martin.

They both nodded and thats when the two guards earlier came and led the Mr and the Mrs to the reservation. Binitawan ako saglit ni Darren para lapitan yung dalawang nagtatrabaho dito.

"I apologize kung kailangang sa shop niyo pa kam mag sagutan. I'm sure na nareport na yung incident na to kay Vanya by now and don't you guys worry because we are her friends. We can vouch for your innocence plus meron namang record lahat ng pangyayari. You have a choice na sampahan sila ng kaso, what that woman did to you guys are against the law. If you feel like doing so and would want to teach them a lesson" he grabs something inside his coat then he reveals it to be his wallet. "Give this man a call, he can help you. Don't worry about the payment as well, he'll help you even without any compensation. Whatever deal we made just now, kami lang yun. You guys have the right to do whatever you want. This is also my calling card, if anything should happen you can call for me. Again i'm sorry for the inconvenience" Darren apologizes making the two women cry in appreciation.

"You two did your best at your job. I saw it the moment I came here, that lady was out of the line so you don't need to feel so sorry for her. She'll get her own karma soon. Kaya keep doing a good job, Vanya is so lucky to have two on one of her stalls." I smiled.

"Thank you Ma'am. You two are so kind to us. Thank you so much" they both smiled to us and we made out exit from the boutique with Darrens hand on my waist.

"You could have called me and you chose to get hurt" Darren speaks up while he leads me to the elevator. This hotel is made of three parts, the lower floors are filled with shops and boutiques, the middle floors are made for the food sections going from fast food restaurants to high class cuisines. Then theres the last floors that holds all the rooms.

"I'm sorry. Its not like pinili kong masampal, that lady could throw a punch if she wants to" I tried consoling him but I'm pretty sure he is worried and disappointed at the same time.

"Well talk about this later, for now, we need to put some ice on that face of yours. We'll quickly finish the meeting then I'll bring you home" Syempre, there is no saying no when it comes to worried Darren. Fighting him about this will only drag on. You'll eventually yield pagdating sa mga points niya, and ayaw ko din na makipag argue since if i'm in his place, I'd probably feel the same way.

For now, we have to act professional because we are about to face those people again and make a deal that could benefit both companies. Though I have a feeling na hindi lang basta basta yung hihingin ng kompanya nila Mr. Martin, I have the impression that they are in great help so I don't think they'll be able to bring any benefit to LA Corp. Darren didn't tell my anything about what Mr. Martin really do and I already know most of the high ranking business mans around Asia and Uk. I have to because its my job. So basically, if I don't know who Mr. Martin is it means their business is not that known and probably losing too much. So why did Darren decide to help this man? It looks to me that his first goal on his first day is to help a loosing businessman. But up to what gain?

The elevator door finally opens and then everything was clear to me again. Darren wont just gamble about anyone if he doesn't have anything up his sleeves.He is aiming for something and theres a huge chance that Mr. Martin could help him with that. We almost think alike at alam kong hindi siya sasabak sa isang gera na walang armas, he is up to something and I just haven't figured it out yet. Mas mabuti pa sigurong tanungin ko nalang siya mamaya tungkol dito. He almost doesn't hide anything from me anyways and i am still his business partner so he'll eventually tell me what up with this deal.

Right now, I only need to trust him and see kung saan papunta itong usapan nato. Darren wont do anything illegal anyways, if he wants something done, he does it with style and class. Thats how i've known him and I'll keep believing that he wont do something stupid just to gain something. Plus he still has me to stop him. I just hope that those two will have an open heart for change.

Once na close yung deal, hindi nila pwedeng dalhin yung mapagmata nilang ugali sa LA Corp at tsaka they need to stop relying on money. Hindi sa lahat ng oras, pera ang pupwedeng sumalba sakanila, they have to learn na kailangan din nilang magpakumbaba at magtipid kasi palugi na sila. They still have a child to feed and I'm afraid that if they keep going like this, baka gayahin na din sila ng anak nila ang maging mayabang at mapagmataas yung bata. She is still a teenager and from what I've gathered kanina sa shop, she is not the kind of kid who buts in and defends her parents, shes more of a silent observer type. Usually kasi instinct ng mga anak yun, I know it is because I am one of those kids na idedefend talaga ang magulang kahit pa hindi ko pa alam ang buong kwento. Their kid is different. She looks like shes used to seeing her mom acting that way and her father being an ass. Maybe deep inside I'm also hoping na sana hindi maging malaking kahihiyan sakanya yung nangyari kanina, she is still growing and she still needs to understand the world. Nakakalungkot lang na as of now, wala pa siyang tamang example na pwedeng sundin.

Anyways, its not a hundred percent sure na magiging okay yung business talk nila Mr. Martin at Darren, nothing is final until they see two signatures on a piece of paper with a bunch of craziness written on them.
