"When life gives you an egg, make omelettes. Make the best of what you have ." Lisa recites this mantra to herself every morning as part of her daily routine. You may think it lame, but as the saying goes "Don't judge me unless you've walked a day in my shoes." A day in Lisa's shoes usually involves waking up at the crack of dawn, which for Lisa is 5am, doing her ablutions while listening to some pep talk on her terribly outdated telephone which fortunately for her still works. After which she recites the above mantra. Cooks breakfast for some extremely ungrateful aunt and her bratty sons. She then leaves for work. And by work I mean 4 part time jobs which she does back to back. She can only get home at 6pm if she's lucky. And then she'll have to again prepare dinner. After which she can finally take her online college courses. Lisa keeps good cheer despite all the horrible things she's had to put up with throughout her life. It seems her mantra really does keep her going. Not that she hasn't contemplated suicide before, as a matter of fact she tried to "put the nail in" 5 times in a row. Fortunately or unfortunately she was saved by some kind words from a gentle looking elderly lady and her dearly beloved mantra on her fifth try. Lisa decided then that life was a bitch, but life too was hope. And for as long as there was breath in her body she'd scale whatever high walls life put in her path. She was making progress one day at a time. Then again, life always has the most unexpected surprises to throw your way, just when you start to think you've seen it all.

Lisa paced the length of her room so many times. She was quite certain she'd be fired.

God what had she been thinking? You don't pull your boss into a pool fully clothed and on your first day of work no less.

She couldn't even come up with a valid excuse for what she had done. So she decided that her best course of action will be to come up with a very heartwarming apology and keep her fingers crossed.

She started going through the lines in her head, waiting for Lucas' temper to take a rest, if it could. She had a very detailed apology in mind when she heard a knock at her door.

It sounded to her like the trumpets on doom's day. And just as she'd been dreading, it was Lucas at her door.

As soon as she saw him her brain somehow stopped functioning and she became tongue tied. She stepped back to let him in. He was clad in a white robe, and a very foreboding facial expression. Lisa knew her fate was sealed.

So there was nothing else to do, but to make her apologies, pack up her bags and say goodbye to a job that ended before it even started.

Lisa looked up at Lucas and said, "Sir, I apologize for pulling you into the pool. I made an irrational decision in doing so, because you were the reason why I fell and yet you laughed at me. I know I was wrong. I should have known better than to let my feelings interfer with the job. That said, I think I ought to pack up now."

Lucas said, "I'll leave you to it then."

Lisa was crushed. Even though she'd said that, there was still that small part of her that had been hoping to get a second chance, but that apparently wasn't meant to be.

She packed up all her belongings and went ahead to make her excuses before leaving. She met Lucas in the living room, fully dressed. There was no sign at all that he'd taken an involuntary tumble into the pool.

Lisa said," I'll take my leave now Sir."

"Hope you packed up all your stuff." Lucas said "because unpacking and reorganizing is going to be your punishment for dunkin' your boss." It took more than a few minutes for Lisa to come to terms with what Lucas had just said. She was overjoyed. The ten grand was still within reach.

She said,"Thank you sir." With a really grateful smile on her face.

She went to her room to unpack and reorganize her stuff. She didn't mind the extra work, the ten grand is more than enough reward. She completed that task in the least possible time and went ahead to complete her work at the pool.

By the end of her first day Lisa had weeded the garden, mowed the lawn and dredged the pool. She was satisfied with the work she'd done. She went to see how lunch was coming along.

Mrs. Lee was already setting up Lucas' tray. He'd be having lunch in his set of rooms, the mansion was indeed huge. The word "mansion" didn't quite cover it. The place had wings for crying out loud. She went to Mrs. Lee and offered to lend a hand, but Mrs. Lee told her she was almost done.

Lisa then took the tray to Lucas since the maids were nowhere in sight. She knocked at Lucas' door that she'd luckily been able to find.

He called out to her to come in. She entered and made her way to his study where, she found him at this desk doing some paperwork. She had the chance to study him. She felt jitters again.

This crush she had on her boss was not at all healthy. She had to learn how to act professional in the presence of her love interest. He looked so handsome as usual, a little disheveled though, which was just adorable. She couldn't take her eyes off him. She was lucky enough to shake herself back to reality again.

She put down his tray and Lucas said ," Thanks" not once looking up from the papers he was studying. She excused herself and went to check on the maids.

Lisa found Amy cleaning up the guest bathroom. Amy seemed a hard enough worker and for that Lisa was grateful. She just didn't understand why her gut always clenched in Amy's presence. Lisa had learned to heed her instincts at a very tender age.

It was better to heed that tiny crawl up your neck and run and be safe, than to take the chance at staying put thinking you're just being paranoid. As it happens her gut feeling has saved her quite a number of times. So she decided to keep an eye on Amy. Discreetly ofcourse. She informed Amy that Lunch was ready. She then went on to have lunch herself.

The food practically melted in her mouth. She asked Mrs. Lee to share her recipe, but Mrs. Lee replied, "if you make it through the month then I'll share a few."

Amy and Carie joined them when she was halfway through her meal. She and Mrs. Lee had been sharing information about each other so they asked Amy and Carrie to join in.

Amy smiled hesitantly and joined in on the conversation with Carie. The rest of the day went on smoothly, and just like that Lisa was done with her first day.

It had been eventful, and if she'd dare admit it, exciting. Lucas crept into her thoughts again just before she fell asleep. She just couldn't help herself. She'd had crushes before but those had never really meant much and more often than not those feelings died early. But Lucas was a whole different story. She liked almost everything about him. Not that she knew much, but that which she knew she liked very much. So handsome. Who was she kidding, he was drop dead gorgeous, polite, a killer smile. She fell asleep to thoughts of Lucas and the uncertainty of the future.
