" Speak up or die the most painful death possible. Don't bother shouting. No one can hear you in this woods." I said to Charlotte, the best friend of my sister. We had been drinking all night at inn and had no problem with convincing her to follow me home even though we had just met for the first time. She was too drunk to refuse my request and even if she wasn't. Her grief had allowed lustiness to get a better side of her. I had paid a Cabman to take us the outskirts of town which was mostly surrounded with acres of forests. Charlotte had been to drunk to make out anything from our one hour journey. All she wanted was to find her release and ease the pain she was trying to mask. As soon as the Cabman stopped, I asked her to alight the cab and paid the Cabman.
" We would proceed on foot from here." I said and helped her out of the car, while she staggered about, almost loosing her footing.
" Whatever. Just take me home." She said, placing the sides of her head on my shoulders. It made me wonder if Cathedral had also been so dumb as her friends.
" You leave in the woods. Are you some sort of Werewolf or something." She asked me, as suited the edge of her skimpy gown, which exposed all her upper thighs.
" Yes. It's where the soul connects to nature the most. And no, I'm not a werewolf I replied." In my effortless voice that was said to be charming, by every single lady, who heard it.
" Hm. I see. How long do we have to work. I'm beginning to get scared. We just met and I shouldn't be taking so much risk." She said but showed no sign being scared. Soon we were far enough from the nearest civilization and I found a cave, fitting for what I had planned to do.
" Here . Get over here." I said and led her into the cave with the light from the moon, before pulling out two knives from the sides of my coat. Her sight was quick to catch the silvery edges of the sharp knives. It floored her drunkenness, bringing her back to soberness. She was about to scream and make a run for it. When I grabbed her, placing my palm over her mouth.
" Did you hear me clearly. I said speak up or die." I repeated to her and watched her nodded her head in fear while she cried. I took off my palms from over her mouth, placing the tip of one of my knives on the edge of her neck. It controlled her movement and almost stood Petrified, from the fear that I was going to kill her if she tried to run or scream for help.
"Cathedral Mehitabel Capone. You know a young lady by this name don't you?" I asked, after sitting her down on the uneven floor in the cave.
" Yes I know her. She was my best friend." Said Charlotte as she placed her palm over her mouth to stop her self from shouting.
" Good. I heard you two were always together. Tell me what had led her to take the decision she did. All her friends are guilty, that I know for sure. The only way you can walk out of this cave alive, is if you tell me the truth and everything else I need to know." I said to her, purposely pinching the side of her neck with the tip of my knife.
" I swear I would talk. Please don't kill me." She cried, via her muffled mouth.
" Good. I will ask the questions and you would give me the answers. I may just be a werewolf as you have earlier stated. I will know when you are lying and your death shall be pain and quick. I'm I clear my dear." I said in effortless tone, that was as charming as ever.
" Yes. I swear it. Only the truth. Please." The young lady cried as the pinch from my sword was tense enough to have slightly cut her skin. I mean how else could I relate to her that I was serious.
" Tell me all you know about my sister and why did her wealth deplete so quickly. Take your time and tell me. I want to hear everything." I said to her and squared on the floor. Still pinching my neck towards her.
" Okay. I will …"
" Just start already." I inferred, cutting her short.
" I … and Mehitabel have been best of friend from our days in high school and we also met in college and our friendship grew even more stronger. Oxford as you know is a school of elites. Our parents and guardians are mostly wealthy individuals from around the world. It made the competition amongst us very high. Everyone wanted to be the first to wear the latest Gucci bag or the latest Givenchy tops. Money is always get spent to service such Lifestyle. Unfortunately, Mehitabel had the obsession of being the best among the top elites. She would always be the first to buy the most expensive bags and Jewelries and flaunt them on her media pages. A lot of us looked up to her. She was our queen, the leader of our five girls clique. Soon there was really no one who could keep up with her I'm terms of wearing designer clothing and flaunting a flashy lifestyle. It made her feel more of a goddess and decided to take her elite Lifestyle to a whole different level. She began to take us out on shopping sprees and footing all the bills. This was about a year ago. When we went to eat at the cafeteria, She was always at hand to pay the bills. Many times I had tried to talk to her shelve her elite Lifestyle and save her money. She always saw me as a rival who was after her position as the queen of the clique. She kept on with this trend for a long time until her father fell sick. I'm afraid that even when he was sick, it didn't completely transform her to the sober lady we had hope she would become. She was frequently seen at elite parties, but the general shopping spree had greatly reduced. It did not stop her from being generous to us. Whenever we ate at the canteen which was like everyday, she was the one who paid the bills. We were just glad to have a generous friend like her." Said Charlotte as she sobbed in fear rather than grief.
" I see. So call your self her friend and you sat down and watch her squander all her funds in the name of living an elite life. That's alluring. Keep talking. What happened next?" I asked her and sighed deeply to ease my grief.
" I tried to talk to her. She just never listens. We all believed her father was a Billionaire who had no problem sponsoring her lifestyle. Perhaps we were just being naïve. After the death of her father. She travelled to London and returned and things weren't the same for her. She became moody and distress. She stopped going to the expensive malls to shop. After all, she had dozens of wardrobes filled with designers clothing and ensembles. What she didn't stop was taking us out on dates to have some dinner and discuss on the latest gossips in Oxford. Soon she her boyfriend Adonis was taking much of her time and we could hardly even see our friend. I regret to say that , we all were rich but none of us hard the generosity to take all five us out to the elite only restaurant, like she did. We began to trail her and cajole her into taking us for those dinners we loved so much. Knowing they cost a mini fortune.
" Mehitabel. Were are you. Please queen we want to hang out." I would always call her, whenever we wanted to have fun on her expenses. We ought to have known she was trying to mange her resources, since her father was now dead. We were Insensitive towards her passive approach to save money. We found a way of pulling her out of her shall and sipping the coins away from her. Soon she would take us out whenever we pressured her but would ask the waiter to serve her just water, while we had champagne and all the chicken sauce our belly could carry. Just like the other girls in our clique, I always felt she was a show off who wanted to rub her wealth on our faces. Today I know better and realized she was just being kind. She made it a priority to make all her friends happy. She probably was scared of being left alone. We knew her phobia for solitude and used it against her. I feel so ashamed of myself." Charlotte said and began to cry again. This time around from grief rather than fear.
" We are making some progress aren't we. Please continue." I said in my usual tone that was calm and smooth.
" Mehitabel never did drugs neither did she take alcohol. She was a fine young lady whose morals were a thing of envy. She just nursed an unhealthy competition to be the best in everything she did. Soon she became reserved and didn't want to talk to anyone including me her best friend. I tried to talk to her but couldn't really get anything from her. She claimed she was fine and was just missing her father. I knew it wasn't the case. Yes , her father's demise had caused her much pain, but it hadn't been for long before she had sprang out of it and began to live her best life. I suspected she was either having some issues with Adonis or perhaps she had lied About how much she had inherited. She didn't say anything about these to me. Soon, she became bold enough to turn down our request for her to take us out. Rather than say she had no money. She claimed that she was giving her money to charity as her father's death, had brought her closer to humanity.
No one argued with her. It only revealed to her the sort of friends she had. I wouldn't say I joined the rest of the girls in militating against her, but I didn't do it in the open as they did. During classes we all sat in one big cluster and were the heart of the classroom. Everyone had their eyes on our elegance. But when Mehitabel made it clear that she wasn't going to sponsor our dinner at the elite restaurant any more, we decided to avoid seating close to her and not saying much to her during classes. After classes, we all made excuses and left her alone all by herself. Sometimes I tried to stay with her. But I was scared that the other girls may avoid me as well. It was better to forego her and save the clique. We could always replace her with the next hottest girl. She was powerless on her own. It made her feel bad. I used to cry alone thinking about how I personally treated her. She was angel she deserved far better from us. We failed her." Charlotte said, breaking down in tears all over again.
" I see. So tell me more." I said. Giving her the grace to keep speaking. She wasn't done grieving, even the knife on her neck didn't scare her as much as the horrors of her own wickedness towards my sister. She sobbed for a couple of seconds and began to speak again.
" Soon there was really no left for her but Adonis. She had made mention of him getting super wealthy from investing in cryptocurrency. I believed he had introduced her to the scheme and cajoled her into investing most of her inheritance in the crypto business. While he still claims he was only trying to help her. I believe he was just a scammer who swindled away what was left of her money. The morning when the crash of the crypto market was broadcasted on the cable news. A total of three students had committed suicide. Most of them had invested their life Savings in the scheme, hoping earn windfall profits but had their capitals depleted. They could hardly salvage a quarter of their invested capital. Mehitabel was strong and held on. Clearly she was depressed, all of us could see. But we were angry that she was hiding all her millions away from us and choosing the orphanage over us. Maybe if she had told us the truth of her financial predicament, we wouldn't have treated her so badly. She never should have lied to me. I was her best friend. It's so sad." Charlotte Said and paused to catch her breath. While I watched her, indifferently. I had no pity nor hate towards. At least not as at that moment. All wanted her to do was to nourish me with more information. Just then a chilly breeze had found it's way into the semi dark cave. It caressed the bare skin It could find in the cave, finding it's way between the thick thighs of charlotte who quickly realized she had sat in a manner that exposed her panties to me. She closed her hips together to boost what was left of her decency. I was a priest. It's didn't have a single effect on me. Even if it could. My heart was too broken to think of the ecstasies lying therein below the legs of a woman.
" So you sat back and was glad to watch your friend suffer. That's really not so good of you. Tell me about this young man called Adonis. Tell me what you know about her investment and what had made her believe Adonis so much." I said to her and looked around the cave to make sure I was the only beast in it's enclave. I turned my gaze back at her after confirming the area was clear. She sniffed pitifully and wiped her nose before beginning to speak again. I maintained my balance and listened to her keenly, not wanting to loose the most important part of her important narrative. Her love life and loosing her inheritance were intertwined and I needed to get every detail of that phase of the story. It was key to the judgement I was going to make.
