“She’s just stressed because of the labor.”
She’s not the only one,Sam thought. He was relieved no one had asked him to go in there. No way was he putting his head in the lioness’s mouth.
“Seven centimeters!” Billy said, barreling through the doors. The hospital staff had found him a set of scrubs, Sam guessed his friend’s construction clothing wasn’t considered suitable attire for the delivery room.
“Really?” Then Pete’s mood seemed to darken. “You don’t think Beth will change her mind when she…when she sees the baby?”
This was where Sam knew he had to step in. Zack had given of his medical wisdom, Sam had contributed his psychology degree, and Billy and/or Pete had provided the sperm. It had been a real team effort.
“Guys, we’ve talked about this, remember?” Sam soothed. “She already has three kids of her own. Where would she put a fourth?”
